Longtime Lincoln resident Janet Hunter Christensen Oehm passed away peacefully on October 18, 2023. Janet was born in Alliance, Nebraska on February 22, 1940 to James and Pauline (Pickerell) Hunter. After graduating from Alliance High School in 1958, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.
She married Arnold (Bud) Christensen on June 11, 1960 and the couple were married for 36 years, until his death in 1996. They made their first home in Rapid City, South Dakota. When they moved to Alliance, Nebraska in 1960 her husband joined her family in the management of the Drake Hotel. The Christensens were well known in the Nebraska panhandle for their catering and hospitality. Janet and Bud raised their four sons in Alliance. As a mother of four active boys she became a regular room mother/den mother whose baked treats were always plentiful and devoured. Her love of tradition and her home made holidays a special opportunity. When the Drake Hotel closed in 1986, the Christensens moved to Lincoln. Janet began a new career in retail sales & management in women’s apparel for J.Bragg's, Ben Simon's, and Dillard's until her retirement in 2013. She enjoyed working with individual clients and made lasting friendships. Her husband Bud died in 1996. Janet married Edwund (Ed) Oehm on November 28, 1997 in New York City.
Janet is survived by her husband, sons: Gregory (Timothy Gura) of Pittsboro, North Carolina, David (Jan) of Lincoln, Matthew of Lincoln and John (Linda) of Lincoln. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Liza Baker (Travis), Benjamin Christensen, Jack Christensen, and Zoe Christensen; great-granddaughter Ruby Baker; sister Jean (Jon) Jacobson; and three nieces and two nephews. She is also survived stepdaughter; Renee Vacek, stepsons; Eddie and Mike Oehm and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Arnold W. Christensen, and her brother, James D. Hunter.
A memorial service for Janet will be held Friday, November 3rd, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
