North Platte officer injured arresting domestic violence suspect

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-A North Platte man is in jail after a police officer was injured while arresting him on domestic violence allegations.

According to police, on May 2 at around 9:21 a.m., officers responded to the report of an assault in the 600 block of E. 4th St.

Officers arrived and met with a victim who reported they had been assaulted by Jonathan Alsip, 34.

The victim told officers they had been attacked by Alsip who approached them from behind and struck them several times in the face and neck. Police said officers observed redness in the area that corroborated the victim's account.

Officers attempted to locate Alsip but were unable to.

On May 3, at around 3:48 p.m., officers responded to the report of a suspicious person in the 400 block of E. 6th St.

Officers arrived and found Alsip in the area.

As officers attempted to take him into custody on the domestic violence allegations, police said Alsip fled and officers pursued him.

Police said Alsip continued to struggle with officers who deployed a Taser. Alsip was then taken into custody and transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center on suspicion of domestic assault, assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest.

Police said one of the arresting officers suffered minor injuries during the altercation.
