Four years ago this month, Johnna and Bob Wood opened their unique and charming gift shop in Hemingford called Local. With October as the store's anniversary month, it should come as no surprise that Local celebrates Halloween in a big way!
An exciting variety of autumn and Halloween decor and gifts highlights the recent "flip" of the store, which happens twice a year. Johnna tells Panhandle Post, "October 30th marks our 5th season, and so we're gonna do a little fun with sidewalk sales, front porch sales...and some new food sampling...flavored oils, balsamic vinegar...we're gonna have some fun."
Johnna also showed our Panhandle Post roving reporters the Christmas goodies waiting to be seen in the back room. "In my heart, I love Christmas...I feel it's in the heart all season long, so why not enjoy it? We have an arrangement of gifting ideas for any age you can imagine, from infant to 100!"
Another unique feature for the Christmas season is holiday visitor Clark W. Griswold of "Christmas Vacation" fame. Clark is very generous in posing for photos, including one with the Panhandle Post's Jason Wentworth.
Johnna is particularly excited about an upcoming yuletide event: "We're going to have a life-sized gingerbread house! The last few weeks I've been building my first house...I just.. literally, like you'd build a house, only the front of it is some brick paneling. It's gonna be 12 by 8... it's gonna be big!"
In addition to the decor and gifts, Local offers a variety of coffees, teas, ice cream and other treats.
