SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - On May 22, 2026, at approximately 7:21 a.m., Scottsbluff Police Department dispatch received a call from an unknown phone number. The caller reported threats involving Westmoor Elementary School, 1722 Avenue K, and claimed individuals were going to the school with weapons and a bomb.

Officers with the Scottsbluff Police Department were immediately dispatched to Westmoor Elementary School. Officers arrived on scene within minutes and began securing the area. Officers contacted staff at the building and conducted a walkthrough of the school.

At the time of the response, no children were present at the school. Only minimal staff and construction workers were on scene. Officers conducted a thorough check of the building and did not locate any suspicious persons, suspicious activity, or suspicious items. Staff also advised officers they had not seen anyone suspicious or unexpected in the school.

Based on the information available at this time, the incident appears to be a swatting call. Swatting is the act of making a false report to law enforcement in an attempt to cause an emergency response to a specific location. These incidents are taken seriously and place unnecessary strain on public safety resources while creating a public safety concern for schools, families and the community.

The Scottsbluff Police Department would like to reassure the public that officers responded quickly, checked the school, evaluated the merit behind the threat and determined there was no active threat at Westmoor Elementary School.
