By Sara S. Nicholson, Snow-Redfern Foundation Executive Director
On December 1, Snow-Redfern Foundation will celebrate 70 years of investing in the good life for kids with an open house at their new downtown Alliance office.
Their birthday cake has over 114,000 candles on it- one for every child that Snow-Redfern Foundation has served in their 70-year history.
As a testament to Arvilla Snow-Redfern’s many years of empowering youth as the founder of the foundation and the Nebraska Boys Ranch, the foundation deemed it appropriate to recognize December as the Month of Girls by announcing a young woman’s leadership development pilot program in her honor.
“The pilot will be designed and implemented with the help of a group of high school juniors and seniors. These “youth consultants” will be asked to infuse the program plan with their vision of what it means to be a strong female leader as well as to identify topics for the curricula, the name of the program, and marketing strategies”, shared Executive Director, Sara Nicholson.
Young women that are interested in careers in agriculture, trades, or STEM will have the ability to apply for this opportunity in 2023. The program will consist of workshops, mentoring, career plan development, and a scholarship upon successful completion.
High school junior and senior girls interested in helping to develop this program as a Youth Consultant can email Snow-Redfern Foundation at [email protected] for more information.
Snow-Redfern Foundation provides financial support to nonprofit partners that offer programs and services that make a life-changing impact for kids in need. As the former Nebraska Boys Ranch, Snow-Redfern Foundation has a rich history in advocating for, protecting and encouraging youth in need of hope and healing. Though they no longer provide direct care, their commitment to equipping young people with the skills they need to be successful and live a good life remains.
Brooke Shelmadine, Board President, shared “The community is invited to swing by the new Snow-Redfern Foundation office at 305 Box Butte Ave on December 1st between 5-7 p.m. to enjoy music by Mike Pancost with Big Daddy & the Offspring, have a drink and hors d’oeuvres, and interact with Snow-Redfern Foundation staff, board members and Youth Influencers from their newest program- Youth In Power (in partnership with CAPWN and Panhandle Partnership Inc.)”.
