Today is Tammy Mowry's last day as Sherrif of Box Butte County as she is retiring after 43 years in Law Enforcement.

Mowry talked to Panhandle Post when she first announced her retirement at the beginning of August, and she wants to thank the community for their support. "Box Butte County has been really good to me, I'm grateful," Mowry said.

Mowry was the first woman's Sheriff when she was elected back in 2007. Earlier this week, Panhandle Post reported that J.D Sutphen was named the interim Sheriff as Box Butte County continues to accept applications for Sheriff. Deadlines to submit applications are Sept. 27.
