
Norman “Norm” Lee Blumanthal, 67, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026 at his home after a lengthy illness with his family by his side.
He was born September 30, 1958 in Alliance, Nebraska at St. Joseph Hospital to Norman Sr. and Janice (Shimp) Blumanthal.
During his high school years, Norm worked the afternoon shift at Electric Hose & Rubber, now Parker. After graduation, he began his career with Burlington Northern Railroad, where he worked until his health led to early retirement.
In his spare time, Norm was an avid outdoorsman and handyman. You would often find him at the lake camping and fishing or making improvements to the family home, something he took pride in. He also enjoyed watching Nebraska Cornhusker football and working on cars.
Norm is survived by his five children, Michael Blumanthal, Amanda (Clay) Smith, Alisa (Ervin) Whitlock, Amy (Ty) Shrewsbury, and Amber (Peter) Blumanthal; his 13 grandchildren, Cayden, Jakob and Elora Blumanthal, Destiny Smith, Trey (Kinzie) Eitler, Auston and Eli Whitlock, Breann Baker, Cody (Kaitlyn), Terrin (Joslin) and Riggin (Keera) Shrewsbury and Celina and Jade Apodaca; 3 great grandchildren, Evelyn, Thorin and Freya Eitler. He is also survived by his mother and step-father, Janice and Paul Schweitzer; his brother, Mark (Krista) Blumanthal and their children; his aunt Jeanine Curry; and numerous cousins as well as his girlfriend Sue Durrett and her children, Cheyenne and Dustin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Sr.; his infant daughter, Angela; his niece, Sarah; his brother, Bradley Blumanthal; his grandparents, Art and Nolan Shimp and Ernest and Sarah Blumanthal; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and Sue’s son, Logan Durrett.
Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.
