Sherry Louise (Dufek) Hunter, 65, of Hemingford, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Chadron Community Hospital.

She was born October 16, 1955 in Alliance to Dallas and Donna (Price) Dufek.  Sherry graduated from Hemingford High School in 1973, and then went on to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a year.  She began work as an executive secretary at Lockwood Corporation and after receiving encouragement from the president of the company, she returned to school to earn her marketing degree at the University of Denver.  She graduated with honors after only two and a half years, while also working full time in the finance department of May D & F Department Stores.

Sherry was united in marriage to Don Hunter on September 26, 1981 at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford.  Don and Sherry were a true team; where one was, the other was never far away.  They were known throughout the area for their successful farming and ranching operation.  Sherry worked at Hemingford Public Schools as a substitute teacher and aide for over twenty years.  She was every student’s biggest fan, regularly attending sporting events, plays, music programs and the like.  She was so very proud of her great nieces, and loved attending their activities including school plays, proms, graduations, weddings, baby showers and everything in between.  Sherry was proud of so many things; although she and Don had no children of their own, her relationships with so many children and adults were very important to her.  Some of the greatest blessings in her life call her Aunt Sherry!

She is survived by her husband, Don; her mother, Donna Dufek; her niece, Heather (Jon) Hauschild and their children, Carson and Cadence; her aunt, Louise Morava; her cousins, Greg and Sandi Morava and family, and Steve and Susan Morava and family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dallas Dufek; her grandparents, Charles and Agnes Price and Charlie and Libby Dufek, and her father and mother in-law, Richard and Dorothy Hunter.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Box Butte County Fairgrounds in the Multi-Purpose Hall with a luncheon will immediately follow.  Memorials may be given to the Ronald McDonald House. https://www.rmhc.org/
