At 04:19 AM on July 27, 2026, officers Luke Parrett and Ashley Tolstedt were dispatched the Chadron Community Hospital in reference to victim of an assault wanting to speak to an officer. Officers arrived on scene and interviewed the victim and documented the injuries reported to have taken place during then assault. Photographs were collected. Officers Parrett and Tolstedt then left the hospital and went to a residence on the 1000 block of Maple Street where the assault was reported to have occurred. At this location a second victim of the assault was located and interviewed. During the investigation it was learned the suspect of the assault had allegedly verbally threatened the lives of the victims during the assault.
A suspect was identified and the suspect was located in the area. The officers interviewed the suspect of the assault and as a result of the investigation arrested 25-year-old Gary Shott for two counts of Terroristic Threats, which is a Class IIIA Felony and one count of 3 rd Degree Assault, which is a Class I Misdemeanor. Shott was transported to the Dawes County Jail where he was held on a 10% of $50,000 bond.
