Sam Meller, 74, of Gordon, Nebraska, died Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Gordon Memorial Hospital. Sam was born September 7, 1949, in Perryton, Texas. His parents, sister Bev and brother Andy moved to Nebraska when Sam was a young boy.
Sam married Deborah Strodtman on July 9, 1968, and to this union a daughter Missy and son John were born.
Sam enjoyed fishing, camping, pool league, car racing and lawn mow racing. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to help anyone. He could fix almost anything, or he would build something to make it work.
Sam had many jobs in his life. While going to school he worked as a greens keeper for Scottsbluff Country Club, and also at a body shop until Rudy Stanko moved him to Gordon where he was head of maintenance for the packing plant, the truck stop and the rendering plant, he also worked at GSN Machine shop, Gordon Memorial Hospital, Bomgaars, and at the time of his death he was working at Modern Farm.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Deborah, daughter Missy York and husband Lloyd, grandchildren Regina Zlomke Lemburg and husband Jason, grandson Raymond Zlomke, step-grandchildren Angel York-Hill, Lee York, Areclia “RC” York-Moralla, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son John, his parents John and Edna Meller, his father and mother-in-law Raymond and Jean Strodtman.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024, 11:00 am at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Zlomke, Trendon Zlomke, Landon Zlomke, Aden Lemburg, Lee York, Steven Zlomke, and his family and friends.
