UPDATED Firefighters battle large grass fire near Wellfleet

UPDATE 3/18/22 8:45 a.m.

Firefighters continue to battle the fire near Wellfleet. 

According to Lincoln County Emergency Management, the fire remains zero percent contained and firefighters are holding the perimeter at roughly 900 acres.

Officials are also warning the most of the area will be under an extreme fire risk this weekend.

UPDATE 3/17/22 5:00 p.m.

Firefighters and aircraft are still working the approximately 900-acre Votaw Road Wildfire in Lincoln County.

Extreme fire weather danger and possible red flag warnings are expected through the weekend.

Please be cautious of emergency personnel if travelling through the area.

Crews are still working to contain the wildfire burning southeast of North Platte near Wellfleet. National Guard helicopters have been dispatched to provide bucket drops.

Fire is still at zero percent containment with over 1,000 acres burnt. Please continue to avoid the area.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-Firefighters from nearly 20 fire departments are on the scene of a wildfire near Wellfleet.

Officials said the fire near the Highway 23 and 83 junction has already burned over 1,000 acres and was zero percent contained early Wednesday afternoon.
