Horse racing fans in the Panhandle have the opportunity to experience a documentary film that celebrates the 150th Anniversary of the Kentucky Derby.
The film is called "Born to Rein" and is produced by Jody L. Lamp and Melody Dobson, as they will go on a statewide Nebraska legacy Author's Tour which includes the Panhandle.
The Tour is funded through a major grant awarded by Humanities Nebraska and a partnership with national horse racing historian and author Jennifer S. Kelly.
The tour will have a Thursday afternoon author's book signing event on April 25th beginning at 2 p.m. at Fort Robinson Park, near Crawford at the Buffalo Barracks.
The award-winning documentary film pays tribute to the legends of America’s oldest sport and native-Nebraskans and National Hall of Fame trainers: John Nerud of Minatare and father-and-son team – Marion Van Berg and Jack Van Berg of Columbus.
The film was released in 2019 and coincided with the 100th Anniversary of America’s first Triple Crown winner, Sir Barton, who after retiring from racing also spent time in Nebraska, as a U.S. Army Remount Service Stallion at Fort Robinson near Crawford, NE.
