
With heavy hearts, we share the news of Susan (Susie) L. Cheek passing on July 8, 2025, at the age of 67.
She was born on January 14, 1958 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She grew up in Brookfield, Missouri were she graduated from Brookfield High School in 1976. Susie was united in marriage to M. Lee Cheek on November 5, 1977. To this union three children were born and Susie welcomed two children from Lee’s previous marriage.
Susie retired from the Box Butte County Assessor’s office in December 2022 after 23 ½ years. She also worked for the Holiday Inn Express in Alliance and the Hemingford Public Schools.
Susie was involved in Mending Hearts, Bunco club, and Stamp club. She enjoyed going to the movies with her friends, crafting, community events, and her favorite was following her grandchildren’s activities. This took her far and wide and kept her on the road frequently. Over the years, she was involved in teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Boy Scouts, classroom activities, 4-H, Booster Club, and Box Butte County Fair.
Susie was preceded in death by her husband, M. Lee Cheek; mother and father Alma and E.L. Shiflett; and step grandson Zachary Richey.
She is survived by her children Misty (Jamie) Graham and their daughter Devyn of Hays, Kansas; Dusty Cheek and his children, Aspen, Rylan, Talon, and Oakley and Silas (Tina) Cheek and their children Anna and Gavin of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Her stepchildren JR (Teresa) Cheek and their children Caleb, Reed, and Linsey and Sheri Cheek and her son Jacob Richey of Missouri. She is also survived by numerous family members.
Susie’s celebration of life will be Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford, NE.
