GERING, Neb. — Weather permitting, Nebraska Highway 71 (N-71) and the truck parking area will be closed, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. The closure will occur during the day and is necessary to allow the contractor to perform pavement lifting over the Union Pacific Pacific Railroad (UPRR), northbound and southbound bridges.

The closure will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 30, and run until Wednesday, Oct. 2. A detour will be used starting at Interchange 20, taking traffic down Road 41E through town and back to N-71. There is a 13’-6” underpass on the route. Traffic coming south on N-71 will be detoured at Road 41E South to Interchange 20. There is a signed truck route along the detour for trucks over 13’-6” tall.

Iowa Civil Contracting is the prime contractor and Contractor Services, Inc. will be performing the traffic control. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
