Rosalie Ann Regan, 84, of Fullerton, Nebraska, died on Thursday, March 
16, 2023, at Valley View Assisted Living in Fullerton. Funeral services 
will be Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Palmer-Santin Funeral 
Home in Fullerton with Pastor Tom Lucas officiating. Visitation will be 
Tuesday, March 21, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in 
Central City. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery. Solt-Wagner

 Rosalie was born on March 26, 1938, to Ralph and Mona (Zimmerle) Neumann
 in Nance County. She grew up in Nance County and graduated from 
Fullerton High School in 1955. She married Donald Francis Regan in 1957.
 The couple made their home in Grand Island where Rosalie worked for 
Rural Electric Association. The couple then lived North of Havens where 
Rosalie raised her family and had various jobs in Fullerton. She then 
took a job with Northwestern Bell and worked there for 28 years. While 
employed there, she was and operator and eventually a line tech. She was
 the first female line tech in Alliance. After her retirement, she moved
 back to Central City in the early 1990s and purchased the franchise of
 H &amp; R Block. She then sold her business to her daughter, Rogelyn 
and continued to work for a few more years. She moved to Valley View 
Assisted Living in 2021. She was the CWA Union President, 
President and Treasurer of the Merrick County Democratic Party, a member
 of the Eagles Auxillary, and Telephone Pioneers. She was very proud of 
her involvement in the Democratic Party. Her greatest joy was spending 
time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is 
survived by her twin daughters- Rogelyn (Clarence) Smith of Central 
City, NE; and Rosalie (Ron) Borgheiinck of Fullerton, NE; two sisters- 
Lois Russell of Kearney, NE; and Carol Cox of Fullerton, NE; sister in 
law- Gwen Neumann of Lincoln, NE; 6 grandchildren- Brandy (Brian) Campos
 of Grand Island, NE; Cody (Sheana) Smith of Hastings, NE; Chris (Heidi)
 Smith of Central City, NE; Carla (Mark) Wakefield of Denver, CO; 
Charity (Ken) Wright of Central City, NE; and Chase (Echo) Smith of

Rosalie Ann Regan (1938-2023)

Ann Lyster, 70, passed away Monday, March 13, 2023 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado.&nbsp; She was born September 26, 1952 in Topeka, Kansas to William P. and Donna Jean (Henry) Trusdale.&nbsp; She grew up in Cozad, Nebraska graduating from Cozad High School in 1970.&nbsp; She then attended Hastings College receiving her BA degree in Education in 1974.&nbsp; While attending college, she met Stephen C. Lyster of Alliance.&nbsp; They were married on June 1, 1973 in Cozad.&nbsp; To this union two children, Tara and Matthew, were born.&nbsp; The family moved to Alliance in 1985 from Ogallala, Nebraska where she had taught at St. Luke’s Elementary School.&nbsp; While in Alliance, Ann taught at Grandview Elementary and later at Emerson Elementary School until her retirement. After her retirement, she continued subbing until limited by her health. She loved teaching and seeing the children succeed.

Ann enjoyed sitting on the deck in the backyard enjoying the sun “reading a book” or sitting around the firepit with the heater going if it was too cold. She could also be found with the swimming ladies at the pool in the summer and going out to eat when it was colder. Her most prized possession was her family. She loved watching sports whether it be the Huskers, high school basketball, freshman volleyball or youth bowling. She took great pride in her granddaughter and spoiling her and was just as excited to welcome her grandson that would have been another joy in her life. She also enjoyed vacationing with family and friends whether it be to Estes Park or Jamaica, always having a great time.

Ann is survived by her husband, Stephen, her daughter Tara and her husband Toby Wright of Rapid City, South Dakota and their daughter, Payton, her son Matthew and his girlfriend Christina of Alliance, Nebraska, and their expected son, and her brother, Scott (Roz) Trusdale of Cozad, Nebraska.&nbsp; She is also survived by Steve’s siblings, Nancy Lyster of Alliance, Nebraska, Mitch (Shari) Lyster of McCook, Nebraska, and Wendy (Greg) Wickard of Bridgeport, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Jean Trusdale and in-laws Keith and Jeri Lyster.

Memorial services will be Thursday, March 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Alliance with the Reverend Sue Spencer officiating. Casual attire is preferred.&nbsp; Please join us following the ceremony at Skyview Golf Course to celebrate and honor the life of Ann.

Ann Lyster (1952 - 2023)

Longtime Goodland, KS resident Ray Henry Lalicker, 86, passed away 
on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in 
Goodland.

Ray was born on December 2, 1936, in Garden City, Kansas, to Earl and 
Inez (Hunter) Lalicker.&nbsp; He was one of five children.&nbsp; He graduated from
 Garden City High School in 1954 where he enjoyed many friendships and 
participating in the marching, jazz, and concert bands. After high 
school he served in the Air Force as a flight simulator technician.

In June of 1957, Ray married Shirley Cass in Burwell, NE.&nbsp; To this 
union three sons were born; Ray D., Dewayne, and Monty.&nbsp; He worked as a 
heavy equipment operator for many years for Cass Construction in 
Burwell, NE.&nbsp; In 1970, they moved to Goodland, where he operated heavy 
equipment and later owned and operated his own land leveling business.&nbsp; 
Later, he married Janice (Smith) McClelland.&nbsp;

Ray enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing cards and he could often be
 found watching sports. He especially liked his Nebraska Huskers, Kansas
 City Chiefs, and KU Basketball. He loved spending time with his family 
including his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Jan, two sisters 
Della Stover and Eunice (Pete) Whitman, one brother Forrest Burgett, 
stepchildren Jimmie McClelland and Tammy Barnes, and one granddaughter 
Jenny McClelland.

He is survived by his brother Jerry (Donnie) Lalicker of Garden City,
 KS; his sons Ray D. (Jamie) Lalicker and Dewayne (Lori) Lalicker both 
of Goodland, KS and Monty (Casey) Lalicker of Aurora, CO; a stepdaughter

Judith Ann Limon was born August 24, 1947 in rural Nebraska to Lloyd and Wilma Carlson. She died March 4, 2023 at her home in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

She attended high school at Hay Springs, Nebraska High School. Her fondest memories of that time were as a cheerleader on the prep squad. After high school she attended business collage in Denver, Colorado.

Judith’s work history encompassed a variety of occupations including working for the newspaper, State of Wyoming and owning and operating a restaurant and a bar. However, at heart Judith was a foodie-selecting food, preparing food, and eating food. Many of her working years in Cheyenne were spent in the food business at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and at Granite Rehabilitation and Wellness.

During her many years in Cheyenne, she most enjoyed going to garage sales and finding the perfect western painting, Native American item, or items representing the Old West.

She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Plum (Kenneth) and her son Jonathan Limon (Andrea) and by her beloved grandchildren: Daniel Miller, Rachell Tucker, Rebekah Allen, Jacob Miller, Renee Perea, Mia Limon, Vincent Limon, as well as nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers Larry Carlson and Merle Carlson and two sisters Connie Jordan and Nancy Walker.

Funeral Services will be held in Cheyenne, Wyoming on Friday March 10, 2023 at 4:30 PM. Judith Ann Limon (1947- 2023)

Zachary “Zach” Daniel Turbiville unexpectedly passed away on March 8, 2023, from a massive heart attack. He was born to Lyman and Gail Turbiville on February 9, 1985, in Spearfish, SD. Zach welcomed his baby sister, Samantha, into the family in 1987. The family lived in Camp Crook and spent a lot of time on the family ranch where he developed his strong work ethic that he carried with him throughout his life. The family then moved to Chadron, NE in 1998 when Zach was in the 8th grade.

During his high school years, Zach enjoyed playing golf, basketball and participating in youth group activities. In his spare time, he worked at County Kitchen. After spending a semester in Chadron State college, he decided to continue his career at Country Kitchen and eventually became a co-owner.

Zach enjoyed spending time with his friends playing disc golf, going to concerts, playing pick-up basketball, softball, and participating in pool league. He also enjoyed playing weekly card games (pinochle) with his parents. Zach was described by friends and family as being a genuine and caring person with a truly kind soul. His compassion and kindness were most apparent when he was playing with children of his friends and family members. He also loved dogs and regularly cared for friends and families’ pets while they were out of town.

Anyone who knew Zach, knew all they had to do was ask and he would be there to lend a helping hand. He will be sorely missed by everyone who had the opportunity to know him. He is survived by his dog Molly, parents Gail and Lyman Turbiville of Chadron, NE, sister Samantha (Zack) Olson, niece Kaylee, and nephews Ryan and Ethan of Ansley, NE. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Zach is preceded in death by grandparents, Dick &amp; Marie Arnold of Boulder, MT, and Gene &amp; Leora Turbiville of Camp Crook, SD.

Zachary “Zach” Daniel Turbiville (1985 - 2023)

Lois Mae Gillett, 70, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard, NE.

She was born February 27, 1953 in Alliance to Dale and Iona (Chubb) Vandervort.

Lois was a mother, aunt, sister, grandmother and if you ever knew her you would have had a lifetime friend. She lived and worked in Gordon at the Hacienda restaurant.&nbsp; In 1976 she was united in marriage to Everett Roy Gillett in Hot Springs, SD. Following their marriage they lived in Ardmore, SD and 4 children were born to this union.&nbsp; They were married for 46 years.&nbsp; She had many interests including reading, camping, fishing, knitting and enjoying games of Monopoly and Yahtzee. Gillett and 4 grandchildren.&nbsp; She is also survived by her sisters and brother-in law, Leona and Robert Bloomer and Vesta Whaley, her nieces and nephews, Bobbie Bloomer, Dale Bloomer, Jamie Whaley, Philip Whaley, Jeff Whaley, Sam Stevenson and Dan Stevenson.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Marilyn.

Memorial services will be Saturday, March 18 at 3:00 p.m. at the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Alliance.&nbsp; Pastor Jim Settle will officiate.

Following their marriage they lived in Ardmore, SD and 4 children were born to this union.&nbsp; They were married for 46 years.&nbsp; She had many interests including reading, camping, fishing, knitting and enjoying games of Monopoly and Yahtzee. Lois Mae Gillett (1953 - 2023)

Dora Mae (Stauffacher) Darveau entered into rest at Highland Park Care Center on March 12, 2023 at the age of 93.&nbsp;

Dora was born at the family home north of Hemingford, Nebraska, on May 8, 1930 to Rudolph Warner and Victoria Hildegarde (Johnson) Stauffacher.&nbsp; Her twin brother, Ray Harry, was stillborn.&nbsp; Her other siblings are Ruth McFall, Norma Smith, Rudolph (Rudy) Staff, Frederic (Ted) Stauffacher, Shirley Damer (all deceased), Audrey Cowardin and Marjorie Cowardin.&nbsp; Dora was never happier than when she was with her brothers and sisters.

Dora attended rustic country schools, first at Nonpareil School District 29 and then at Lawn School District 20, where she took two grades in one year.&nbsp; Dora attended Hemingford High School for two years until her brother Rudy (called Buddy at the time) was ready for high school.&nbsp; Her parents sent both to the Nebraska School of Agriculture boarding high school in Curtis, Nebraska.&nbsp; Dora graduated from high school in 1947 at age 16.&nbsp;

In the summer of 1947, Dora worked as a waitress at a cafe in Alliance, waiting to turn 21 when she could attend a nursing school in Omaha.&nbsp; In the meantime, she fell in love with Edward Darveau and they married March 6, 1948 at her parents' farm home, northwest of Hemingford. They began their married life by joining the newly forming Lutheran Church as charter members, and became the last two living charter members of St. Johns, contributing to their religious community throughout their lives.&nbsp; She never made it to that nursing school, too busy building a farm and family together with Ed. Their children are Mary (Rich Smith), David (Kathy), and Kenneth (Elizabeth).

Dora and Ed lived on a farm south of Hemingford until April, 1954, when they moved to their current farm southwest of Hemingford.&nbsp; They lived the rest of their lives there.&nbsp; Dora saw to it that her children were involved in 4-H, and took them to many years of piano lessons and swimming lessons, despite being a 25-mile drive to Alliance during wheat harvest, when she was also cooking and packing huge harvest meals out to the wheat fields for the harvest crew, which was the rest of the family.&nbsp; When all of Ed and Dora’s children were living at home, the family went to church every Sunday and as soon as they returned from service, their tradition was for Dora to pack a lunch and Ed to hook up the boat so the family could go water-skiing every Sunday afternoon in the summertime.

After all her children had graduated from high school, Dora took nurse's training, finally realizing a long-deferred dream, graduating first in her class and receiving the designation of Best All-Around Nurse.&nbsp; Again, she managed to get large meals on the table for all the working family while attending classes in Alliance.&nbsp; She then worked at Box Butte General Hospital for several years, fulfilling her youthful aspirations.&nbsp;

After retiring from nursing, she helped with the farm field work, driving a 4WD Case tractor Ed bought for her, known as "Dora's tractor".&nbsp; This was when air-conditioning for tractors was new, and her tractor had that and Venetian blinds!&nbsp;

Ed and Dora traveled extensively from the beginning of their marriage, after harvest each year.&nbsp; There were family vacations with their children at first, and later they traveled with friends and family.&nbsp; They traveled to all 50 states, to our neighbors to the north and south, and to Europe.&nbsp;&nbsp; There were also many fishing trips, near and far, many with extended family and friends.

Dora loved to read.&nbsp; Later, as farm duties eased, she played the piano, taking lessons into her 70s and creating a beautiful CD of her music.&nbsp; She also loved tole painting, rock painting, making baskets, purses, and other crafts.&nbsp; She shared her love of music with her grandchildren; she taught them piano lessons, took them to music classes, and the family now has a collection of rocks painted as kittens, turtles and bugs, some are exquisite (Dora) and some delightful (grandchildren).&nbsp;

Dora was a long-time member of Nebraska Wheat Hearts and Modern Mothers Extension Club, holding several official positions in both organizations over the years.

Dora is survived by her husband, Edward of 75 years and children Mary (Rich Smith), David (Kathleen) and Kenneth (Liz), all of Hemingford; grandchildren Terra (Will) Pogue, Aurelia (Dan) Skavdahl, Willow Smith, Gabriel (Megan) Darveau and August (Jackie) Darveau.&nbsp; She was very involved in her grandchildren’s' lives, encouraging them with artistic and musical creativity but also taking care of a grandkid or two nearly every day.&nbsp; She has eight great-grandchildren and when she would be apt to forget other things, she would remember the name of a great grandchild.

There will be a viewing on Tuesday, March 14 at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home from 2-6 pm. Family members will be present at the viewing from 4-6 pm to greet friends.&nbsp; Funeral services will be held at St. John's United Lutheran Church on Wednesday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Megan Morrow officiating.&nbsp; Luncheon will follow at the church with interment at Hemingford Cemetery at 1:30 pm. Dora Mae (Stauffacher) Darveau (1930 - 2023)

Lillian May "Babe" Richardson was born September 5th, 1931, in 
Kimball, Nebraska to parents Paul and Mary Brown. She attended grade 
school in the rural Scottsbluff area and graduated from Scottsbluff High
 School in 1950.

After high school, Babe worked as a wrangler at the Wildcat Dude Ranch
 and hostess at Bernie’s Corral Restaurant in the Scottsbluff, NE area. 
She then moved to Ohio where she attended college and worked in Chicago 
as an airline ticket agent. Babe took flying lessons on a single engine 
tail dragger airplane while living in Ohio. Eventually, she moved back 
to Nebraska and met her future husband while working as a bank teller in
 Scottsbluff when a co-worker invited her to go out with a group of 
friends and set Babe up on a blind date.

In January of 1959, Babe was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) 
Richardson. To this union three sons were born, Don, Marvin and Robert

The couple lived on the family’s ranch northwest of Crawford until 
1974 when they moved to a home in the city of Crawford. Babe worked as 
head of housekeeping for Fort Robinson and for many years at the 
Ponderosa Nursing Home in Crawford. She was very active in the community
 belonging to many clubs and organizations and was a staunch supporter 
of the Crawford Fire Department.

Babe was a member of the Crawford United Methodist Church (UNMC) and 
became a representative from the panhandle region of Nebraska for the 
United Methodist Nebraska conference. In her late 70’s she became a lay 
speaker with the UNMC and for multiple years served as pastor for the 
Harrison United Methodist Church and interim pastor at Crawford UNMC.

Babe loved to embroider and quilt, winning awards with her quilts. 
She was never without a camera, taking pictures of her family, friends 
and flower garden at every opportunity. She was an avid reader of 
mystery novels and enjoyed being part of the Crawford community. She was
 a devoted wife, mother, friend and grandmother.

Babe passed away on Monday February 27th, 2023, at the Brookstone 
Meadows Skilled Nursing Center in Elkhorn, Nebraska, surrounded by her 
sons. Preceding her in death were her husband Robert (Bob) Richardson, 
father Paul Brown, mother Mary Krieg, step father Marvin Nelson, sister 
Violet Becker and many close friends and relatives.

She is survived by her three sons and their families Don and Mary Ann
 Richardson (of Winton, North Carolina, Marvin and Margo Richardson (of 
Albuquerque, New Mexico) and Bob and Rhonda Richardson (of Omaha, 
Nebraska), grand children Andrew and Kaitlinn Richardson, step 
grandchildren Maria Sargent, Melissa Adams, Erin O’Reilly, Katie Britt, 
Carissa Lawson, Melissa Phillips, CJ Hines, and Shurri Marie.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 8th, at 11am at the 
Crawford United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at the Crawford 
cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Crawford Fire Department and the

Lillian May 'Babe' Richardson (1931 - 2023)

Sandra Janine Munn age 68 passed away peacefully at her ranch home southwest of Mullen, NE, March 9, 2023.

Sandy was born on September 29, 1954, in Alliance, NE to Bob and Eileen (Easton) Merrihew.

She attended Swede Valley School and later Hyannis High School, graduating in 1972. After high school she attended Western Nebraska Tecincal College.

Sandy worked in Ogallala as a secretary at the Ogallala Hospital, she did “Yard Work” at the Sale Barn in Ogallala and was a secretary at the Hyannis Schools.

Sandy and Charlie were married July 17, 1976, in Hyannis. They were blessed with two sons and a daughter. Corey, Phil, and Marla.

She was a true rancher’s wife. Sandy knew her horses and cattle – from riding a green colt to pulling a calf if she had to. She helped put up a lot of hay for Bob and later for Charlie. She also fed a lot of hay for Charlie.

Sandy was an excellent cook for brandings and cattle work. If you went away hungry it was your own fault.

She dearly loved her grandkids, lawn work, did leather work, crocheting, knitting, quilting, and gardening.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Bob and Eileen Merrihew, mother and father-in-law John and Frances Munn, and a sister-in-law Marcy Merrihew.

Sandy is survived by her husband Charlie, daughter Marla, sons Corey and Phil, three grandchildren Haley, Justice, and Wyatt, brothers Jerry (Cheryl) Merrihew, and Neil Merrihew, nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, including Dawn Lotspeich (special friend), relatives, and neighbors.

Memorials are suggested to Hooker County Ambulance Replacement Fund or Donor’s Choice.

Sandy J Munn (1954-2023)

Donald F. Sjostrom, 89, passed away Wednesday, December 14th, 2022 at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs, NE. &nbsp;Memorial services and interment at Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance&nbsp; on Monday,&nbsp; March 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.

He was born March 20th, 1933 along with his twin brother Ronald, in Chicago, IL to Herman Sjostrom and Veronica Eileen Sjostrom.

Don entered the U.S. Army on March 24th, 1953 and served until he was honorably discharged on July 26th, 1955.

On March 17th, 1968 he was united in marriage to Paulla J. Vickers in Hemingford, NE.

Don was active in community groups including REACT and Kiwanis. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Chadron State College in 1976. He enjoyed engaging in conversation over a coffee at many local diners and he was a supportive figure in many lives throughout the town. As recognition of his military service, he was awarded the 300,000th Quilt of Valor in April 2022.

His survivors include his wife, Paulla, his children, Jack (Joey) Sjostrom of Las Vegas, NV, Anthony (Amanda Codina) Sjostrom of Lone Tree, CO and Katherine (Mark) Brykit of Toney, Alabama. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Ronald and older brother, Herman.

Memorial services and interment at Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance will be at a later date, on March 20, 2023.&nbsp; The time will be determined.

Sjostrom, 89, passed away Wednesday, December 14th, 2022 at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs, NE. &nbsp;Memorial services and interment at Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance&nbsp; on Monday,&nbsp; March 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.He was born March 20th, 1933 along with his twin brother Ronald, in Chicago, IL to Herman Sjostrom and Veronica Eileen Sjostrom.Don entered the U.S. Army on March 24th, 1953 and served until he was honorably discharged on July 26th, 1955.On March 17th, 1968 he was united in marriage to Paulla J. Vickers in Hemingford, NE.Don was active in community groups including REACT and Kiwanis. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Chadron State College in 1976. He enjoyed engaging in conversation over a coffee at many local diners and he was a supportive figure in many lives throughout the town. As recognition of his military service, he was awarded the 300,000th Quilt of Valor in April 2022.His survivors include his wife, Paulla, his children, Jack (Joey) Sjostrom of Las Vegas, NV, Anthony (Amanda Codina) Sjostrom of Lone Tree, CO and Katherine (Mark) Brykit of Toney, Alabama. our much-loved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Sue Ellen Kandel, on 
Tuesday, February 28, 2023. Sue was 71 years old. 
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 11, 2023,&nbsp; at the United Church of the Plains in Dalton, NE with Pastor Leon “Bud” 
Gillespie officiating. Cremation has been held. Services will be 
livestreamed on the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Facebook page and recorded for 
later viewing on our website. Services will conclude at the church.&nbsp;Inurnment will be at a later date in Ohio.

 She had a distinguished career in Western Nebraska as a university 
professor (Chadron State College and Nebraska Western Community 
College), a high school principal (Leyton Public Schools), and a high 
school teacher (Leyton and Dix Public Schools). 
 Sue is listed as Noteworthy in English Language Education by Marquis Who’s Who. 
 She leaves a legacy in the generations of children and young adults she taught and influenced. 
 Sue loved and was skilled in the creative arts—decorating and 
crafting, in particular. She was an accomplished singer and voice 
teacher and a gifted choral conductor. She served as Secretary of the 
High Plains Art Council in Sidney, NE. 
 She also loved the Elizabethans. 
 But she was most in her element at the dining room table after a 
meal, telling stories, laughing, and causing those around her to laugh.

Lavern Rieks, 96, of Alden, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 
his rural Alden farm. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 
11, 2023, at the Counsell Woodley Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. He will be 
laid to rest with military honors at the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will
 be from 1:00 PM until service time on Saturday, March 11 at the funeral
 home. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Iowa 
Falls is caring for Lavern and his family. Lavern W. Rieks, 
son of Chris H. and Esther (Tintjer) Rieks, was born May 25, 1926, in 
Burdette, Iowa. He attended country school and was a farmer and 
carpenter his entire life. Lavern served in the United States Army from 
1951-1953, as a tank driver on the front lines during the Korean 
Conflict. On July 2, 1962, he was united into marriage to 
Shirley Hepperle in Blue Earth Minnesota. On June 19, 1994, they renewed 
their vows within the catholic faith at St. Mark Catholic Church in Iowa
 Falls. Lavern and Shirley were proud of their nearly 50 years of 
marriage, their children and their families. They both enjoyed farm life
 and later wintering in Southern Texas making lifelong friends. 
 Lavern Rieks is survived by his daughter, Karen (Don) Eldridge and her 
children, Diana (Robert) Carpenter of Webster City, David Hanus of Otho,
 Dwight (Amy) Hanus of Fort Dodge, Daniel (Penny) Hanus of Buford, 
Georgia; his son, Christopher (Carolyn) Rieks of Alden and his children,
 Christa (Michael) Henry of Iowa Falls, Curtis Rieks, Conner Rieks, both
 of Alden; his daughter, Kathryn Rieks of Cresco and her son, Logan

 author, avid reader and book reviewer, Francis Dean Moul was born on 
April 11, 1940 to Willis Francis (Snook) and Dorothy Dean Moul at York, 
NE. He died March 4, 2023 at the age of 82 at Lincoln, Ne. He graduated 
from Vermillion, SD High School in 1958, and received a bachelor’s 
degree in journalism and a master’s degree in political science from the
 University of South Dakota at Vermillion in 1964 and 1966. He received 
his doctorate in environmental history from the University of Nebraska 
in 1998. He received a Fulbright Scholarship to India at the 
University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, in 1966. His journalism endeavors 
included the Sioux City Journal, Boone News Republican and editorial 
writer at the Des Moines Register and Tribune. He was an instructor in 
political science at Wayne State College and then was a founder, CEO and
 Publisher of the Syracuse, NE Journal-Democrat and Maverick Media, Inc.
 a printing and publishing firm in Syracuse, NE. He also was a
 proprietor of an antiquarian bookstore and art gallery in Lincoln and 
development officer for the Nebraska Community Foundation. He was vice 
president for Institutional Relations at Chadron State College and 
Executive Director of the Chadron State Foundation, retiring in 2001. 
 His book on the National Grasslands was published by the University of 
Nebraska Press in 2006. He wrote numerous articles for Nebraska 
publications, primarily on environmental issues, and wrote hundreds of 
book reviews for the Lincoln Journal Star, Des Moines Register and Omaha
 World-Herald and other newspapers and magazines. He received 
numerous newspaper writing and publishing awards, won the James C. 
Sellers Award for best article in Nebraska History magazine and the 2007
 Nebraska Center for the Book award for best nonfiction book, for the 
National Grasslands. He was a charter founder, director, 
president and volunteer executive director for the Nebraska Wildlife 
Federation and president of numerous organizations in Syracuse and 
Southeast Nebraska, president of Nebraskans for Peace, and first 
associate chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party and member of the 
Democratic National Committee. He married Mary McVay, who died
 at the age of 25 in 1966. Their daughter, Jennifer, was adopted by his 
second wife, Maxine Burnett (married on April 20, 1972), and they had a 
son, Jeff. Jennifer died in an automobile accident in 1985 at the age of
 19. He is survived by his wife, Maxine, of Lincoln; son Jeff 
(Diane Becket) and children, Adia, Annalise and Logan of Rapid City, SD;
 son Bogart (Donna) Nomad and sons Nik and Zak of Elkhorn, NE; brother, 
John Moul of Boone, IA; sister, Judi Leonard of San Jose, CA; 
sisters-in-law, Karlene Moomey of Elwell, MI, Kris Johnson of Lyons, NE,
 and Mary Thomas of San Antonio, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. He
 was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; daughter, Jennifer; parents

Francis D. Moul 

Robert Ponce, 75, of North Platte, passed away on March 3, 2023, at Great Plains Health.&nbsp; He was born to Jess and Jennie (DeLuna) Ponce on March 13, 1947.

Robert was raised in North Platte, graduating with the class of 1965.&nbsp; In 1966, Robert enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War.&nbsp; On January 5, 1967, he married the love his life, Dorothy Martinez, in Kileen, TX, where he was stationed.&nbsp; Together, they had three children: Robert Jr., Philip, and Christina.&nbsp; 

After returning home from Vietnam, he briefly worked at the meat packing plant before beginning his life-long career at the Union Pacific Railroad.&nbsp; He hired on as a track laborer, then worked as a fireman oiler, a machinist helper, a diesel mechanic, a hostler, and eventually became an engineer.&nbsp; In 2007, Robert retired as a locomotive engineer after 32 years with UPRR.&nbsp; Robert was always soft spoken, tender, and patient.&nbsp; He loved to teach what he knew and trained a lot of the engineers at UPRR.&nbsp; He received two purple hearts, a bronze star with valor, and an Army commendation; he held a lot of pride in his service to the United States.&nbsp;

Robert was always known to keep an immaculate yard, even winning “yard of the week” through the local newspaper.&nbsp; He was an avid Nebraska Husker football fan and loved woodworking, building things, science fiction movies, reading, cooking, and barbequing, specifically prime rib.&nbsp; He was known to be able to fix anything with his handyman skills.&nbsp; Robert was a train enthusiast and a collector of all things, from stamps to guns.&nbsp;

Those left to remember Robert are his children, Robert Jr. (Dianne) Ponce of North Platte, Philip (Carmen) Ponce of Council Bluffs, IA, and Christina (Russell) Brown, of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren, Scott Ponce, Seth (Sharon) Ponce, Elizabeth Ponce, Ashley Brown, Justin Brown, and Kaylie Brown; sisters, Helen Vieyra, Mary Donna Sanchez, Elizabeth (Art) Perez, Sue (Larry) Tridle, Debra Cano, Janet (Lars) Parkhurst; brothers, Randy Ponce and Tim Ponce; brother-in-law, Al Jamsay; aunt, Mary Ponce Carreras; several cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Preceding him in death is his wife, Dorothy; parents; in-laws, Seferino and Helena Martinez; grandson, Cameron Allen; brother, Tony (Judy) Ponce; sisters, Hope Jamsay and Michaelene (Jerry) Miller; grandparents, Luis and Nicolasa Ponce, Petra and R.C.  </figure>Robert Ponce, 75, of North Platte, passed away on March 3, 2023, at Great Plains Health.&nbsp; He was born to Jess and Jennie (DeLuna) Ponce on March 13, 1947.Robert was raised in North Platte, graduating with the class of 1965.&nbsp; In 1966, Robert enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War.&nbsp; On January 5, 1967, he married the love his life, Dorothy Martinez, in Kileen, TX, where he was stationed.&nbsp; Together, they had three children: Robert Jr., Philip, and Christina.&nbsp; After returning home from Vietnam, he briefly worked at the meat packing plant before beginning his life-long career at the Union Pacific Railroad.&nbsp; He hired on as a track laborer, then worked as a fireman oiler, a machinist helper, a diesel mechanic, a hostler, and eventually became an engineer.&nbsp; In 2007, Robert retired as a locomotive engineer after 32 years with UPRR.&nbsp; Robert was always soft spoken, tender, and patient.&nbsp; He loved to teach what he knew and trained a lot of the engineers at UPRR.&nbsp; He received two purple hearts, a bronze star with valor, and an Army commendation; he held a lot of pride in his service to the United States.&nbsp; Robert was always known to keep an immaculate yard, even winning “yard of the week” through the local newspaper.&nbsp; He was an avid Nebraska Husker football fan and loved woodworking, building things, science fiction movies, reading, cooking, and barbequing, specifically prime rib.&nbsp; He was known to be able to fix anything with his handyman skills.&nbsp; Robert was a train enthusiast and a collector of all things, from stamps to guns.&nbsp;Those left to remember Robert are his children, Robert Jr. (Dianne) Ponce of North Platte, Philip (Carmen) Ponce of Council Bluffs, IA, and Christina (Russell) Brown, of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren, Scott Ponce, Seth (Sharon) Ponce, Elizabeth Ponce, Ashley Brown, Justin Brown, and Kaylie Brown; sisters, Helen Vieyra, Mary Donna Sanchez, Elizabeth (Art) Perez, Sue (Larry) Tridle, Debra Cano, Janet (Lars) Parkhurst; brothers, Randy Ponce and Tim Ponce; brother-in-law, Al Jamsay; aunt, Mary Ponce Carreras; several cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Robert Ponce (1947-2023)

Daniel Edward Dreyer, age 35 went to heaven February 28, 2023 at his home in Newton, KS after suffering from a serious medical emergency.&nbsp; Danny was born May 27, 1987 to Ronald and Marie Dreyer in Denver, CO.&nbsp; He weighed in at 3lbs, 15oz. He was eager to grow up. He doubled his weight at 1 month, tripled it in 2 months and quadrupled it in 3 months. Danny joined his family as the youngest child following siblings, Mike and Sandy. Sandy slept by his bassinette for a very long time in order to keep a close attentive eye on him.

He was baptized into the Christian faith at the family home church, Immanuel Lutheran Church of Rushville, NE.

He grew into boyhood helping on his family farm, helping his father repair farm equipment and doing electrical work, learning much more than he realized he was learning.

At age 9 he experienced the loss of his brother Mike. While trying to make sense of this tragedy he asked the astute question “Dad, what is Mike doing in heaven?”

He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He attended Prairie View Dist. #22, until grade 7, then he entered&nbsp; Rushville Public Schools in grade 8. He graduated Rushville High School with the Class of 2005. He attended Chadron State College studying engineering and worked summers at Henkens Implement. After 2 years of college at CSC, he transferred to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln graduating with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. During the Summer while at UNL he went to work for AGCO with the harvest support brigade, combine field test crew and windrower field test group.

After graduating UNL he immediately went to work for AGCO Inc. in Hesston, KS. in the windrower engineer department. One of his first assignments was to go to Denmark, where he and another associate spent 2 weeks modifying a new AGCO Combine to meet Denmark’s transportation standards. While at AGCO he was employed for 12 years to attained to position of Senior Design Engineer.

Leaving to mourn his death: Father Ron, Mother Marie, Sister Sandra (Andrew) Doernemann, nephews Owen and Lucas. Many aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends and acquaintances. He knew no stranger.

Memorial services will be held March 6, 2023 10:00 A.M. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Newton, KS with Pastor Donna Voteau presiding. He will then be taken to Rushville, Nebraska and services will be held March 8, 2023 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rushville with Pastor Allen Werslke presiding. He will be laid to rest by brother Mike at Fairview Cemetery in Rushville.

Christian Eric Schumacher (1971-2023)

Stephen Clark Gable of Surprise, AZ, formally of Scottsbluff, passed away at his home on February 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. &nbsp;A celebration of life will be held in May, in Surprise.

Steve was born March 29, 1945, in Scottsbluff, to Bill and MaryAnn Gable. He married the love of his life, Jade Ready, on March 24, 1968, and they welcomed with joy, children Heidi &amp; Todd. Steve was

General Manager of 7 panhandle, L. B. Murphy stores, and when the stores closed in 1985, the family moved to Arizona. Steve went back to college and earned his BA &nbsp;in Computer Science &amp; Business Accounting. He worked at Rainbow Acres, as a Comptroller, &nbsp;in Camp Verde, AZ, until his retirement in 2010.

Steve is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Jade. Children, Heidi (Sarge) Durbin, and Todd (Jena) Gable. Grandchildren, Colten and Tanner Selman, Jordyn Crabb, Samantha Ready, Brendan and&nbsp; Brock Gable, as well as 3 great grandchildren. Sister, Cleta (Randi) Nuss, sisters-in-law, Florence Gable, Jan Ready Plogg, Jill Ready, and Father-in-law, Marvin Ready.

Proceeding Steve in death, were parents, Bill &amp; Mary Ann Gable, brother Mike, parents-in-law, Jane and Rich Enger, and brother-in-law, John Ready.

Stephen Clark Gable (1945 - 2023)

Bonnie Lou (Weber) Marrs was born in Merriman, Nebraska, on November 20, 1928, to Fredrick W. and Vera E. (Stultz) Weber. She passed from this life to her eternal home on March 1, 2023, at Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron, Nebraska.

She married the love of her life, Oscar Dale Marrs on August 30, 1946, in Valentine, Nebraska. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before Dale passed away on December 22, 1997. To this union 4 children were born, Terry, Bill, Don, and Dee.

Bonnie enjoyed camping, gardening, and traveling to visit family, which she and Dale always did together. She did not know a stranger. Her greatest joy was her babies, no matter how old they are.

She is survived by her children, Terry (Sherrie) Marrs of Pikeville, KY, Bill (Kathy) Marrs of Crystal Lake, IL, Don (Sandy) Marrs of Rapid City, SD, and Dee (Arty) Vinton of Gordon, NE.

She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, cousin Eldon&nbsp;Lessert and extended family and friends.

She was the “other Mother” to Judy, Diana, Bev, John, Tom, and Dick, who also survive her.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dale, great grandson Tayler Fuchs, her parents, grandparents, special cousins Sis, Teenie, Bobby Ann and Jack and well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Cemetery in Merriman, NE. A memorial has been established for the Gordon Volunteer Rescue Unit and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.

Joseph Robert Sloan entered this world June 18, 1985, one minute before his twin brother Joshua Ryan, making him the older brother and giving him the right to use his brother’s name anytime he wanted. Five years later, his sister, Brooke Jerae, was born, and Joe instantly became her second father. Joe loved all things Nebraska, art, music, golf, animals, Huskers, his family, and every one of his many friends. He lived a life of healthy eating and activity. He was kind, caring, friendly, loving and always willing to sacrifice his time to help others. His creative endeavors evolved over the years from drawing and painting, to rapping and brainstorming new Laffy Taffy jokes, to eventually singing and writing his own songs while playing the piano and guitar. In later life, he developed a profound love for his nieces and nephews, who brought so much joy to his life. He would do anything to make them smile.

Joe attended St. Agnes Academy and Grandview Elementary in Alliance before the family moved to Gering, where he would graduate with the class of 2004. He graduated with honors from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 2008. After working in Omaha and farming in North Bend, he came home to western Nebraska to experience the cattle business. He had worked as an Originator for New Alliance Bean, WESTCO for 3 years before he died on February 21st, 2023 at the age of 37.

Joe leaves behind his parents, Jerry and Terri Sloan; Brother, Joshua (Amy); Sister, Brooke (Tyler) Briggs, Sister-Cousin, Jenn (Andrew) Bennett and Sister-Cousin, Amy (Justin) Hellman. Uncle Joe was dearly loved by Londyn, Savannah, Nash and Harley Sloan of Hastings, NE; Caden and Grayson Briggs of Windsor, CO; Sheppard and Sawyer Bennett of Omaha, NE; and Sloan Koehler of Omaha, NE. Welcoming Joe will be Grandparents Dwight Sloan and Doris Sloan, Aunt Christine and Great Aunt Mirm. Upon entry into heaven, we suspect he started break dancing, introducing himself to any strangers and becoming instant friends with them while asking the best place to go to get a glass of milk and a knuckle sandwich. Eventually we anticipate him waiting at Heaven’s gate for his family and a long list of friends to join him. He will most likely call each one of us a “blister” for showing up when he has gotten all the work done.

Our Celebration of Life for Joey will be March 4th at 3 pm at the Weborg 21 Centre in Gering, Nebraska. Casual attire is welcome. Joe’s favorite refreshments will be provided. Memorial donations may be given to the family for designation at a later date. Family is working on the best way to honor Joe.

Deborah Garner (1940 - 2023)

Robert Allen Wood, Sr., 62 of Alliance, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Regional West Medical Center.

The son of Dwight and Charlotte (Spaulding) Wood, he was born in Peoria, Illinois on March 28, 1960.

He graduated high school and had various jobs growing up until he found his passion of being an over the road truck driver.&nbsp; He drove trucks for many companies for the next 30 years until his health changed plans for him.&nbsp; While driving the truck he met Jill Diane Minich, and they were united in marriage on March 21, 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Jill, his sons, Robert (Mary) Wood, II of Chillicothe, IL and Alex Wood of Mackinaw, IL, his step-children, Scotty (Regina) Minich and Troy Minich of Alliance, and his grandchildren, Nyla Stone, Marcus Stone, Devon Stone, Rhiannon Herstedt, Cody Minich and Katelynne Minich. He is also survived by his birth mother, Judy Tuttle, his half-sister, Tammy Croisant and his half-brother, Rocky Tuttle all of Clifton, CO.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Gurley Cemetery at Gurley, Nebraska.&nbsp; Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy "Dot" Maxine&nbsp; Rose. 89, of Arthur, NE passed away Friday, February 24th, 2023 at Ogallala Community Hospital.

Dorothy was born June 24th, 1933 to Ernest and Elsie (Duskin) Weinel in Alliance, NE.

Dorothy attended Alliance Public&nbsp; Schools&nbsp; and worked for a bakery&nbsp; and as a cooks helper.

She married Donald Rose at St. John's Lutheran Church in Alliance on May 8th, 1955.&nbsp; &nbsp;They made their home 10 miles north of Lakeside, NE on the Joy Camp of the Meyers Land and Cattle Company.

In 1963, they moved to Arthur, NE, where she worked on the Sillassen Ranch as the ranch cook.&nbsp; They moved into Arthur in 1979 where Dorothy worked as a waitress and&nbsp; for the Village of Arthur.

Dorothy is preceded in death by; her husband Don, and her parents Ernest and Elsie.

Dorothy is survived by; her sons Dennis (Jolene) Rose of Arthur and Steve (Cindy) Rose of Alliance, Twin brother Donald Weinel of&nbsp; Shreveport, Louisiana.&nbsp; Sisters Florence Sydow of Wheatland, Wy and Bonnie Duncan of Scottsbluff, NE.

5 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren

Funeral services will be&nbsp; Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm from the Arthur Baptist Church with the Rev.Blake Wilkes officiating

Interment will be at the Arthur Cemetery.

Dorothy "Dot" Maxine  Rose (1933 - 2023)

Lola M. (Johnson) Schadwinkel, age 93, passed peacefully Sunday, February 19, 2023 in the Memory Support Unit of Highland Park Care Center with her daughters by her side.

She was born September 14, 1929 to Chester R and L. Pearl (Eivins) Johnson.&nbsp; She graduated from Mullen High School in 1947 and attended the University of Nebraska graduating in 1952 with a degree in Elementary Education.&nbsp; She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority at the University.

Her teaching career began in Alliance Public Schools in 1952 as a Kindergarten teacher.&nbsp; During this time she met Emil A (Ted) Schadwinkel and they were married November 21, 1954.&nbsp; Shortly after they married, they moved to Mullen, NE.&nbsp; Their three children were born while living in Mullen.&nbsp; In 1962 they relocated to Alliance, NE and Lola worked as a substitute teacher for several years and eventually took a full time job teaching.&nbsp; Lola retired in 1993 but stayed active as a substitute teacher for both Alliance and Hemingford School Systems for several years.

Lola was a member of the United Methodist Church and an active member of their choir and a ladies group.&nbsp; She was a member of Eastern Star, Community Choir, volunteered for the American Red Cross to assist with swimming lessons, and P.E.O. Chapter AH.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ted, her parents, her in-laws Albert and Orletha Schadwinkel, brothers Chester, Bill, Don, sister Eleanor, and sister-in-law Kathy.

Lola is survived by her three children, Sally (Steve) Engelhaupt, Craig (Robin) Schadwinkel, and Sue (Trent) Benzel.&nbsp; Additional survivors are her sister Patricia Wallingford, brother-in-law Charles (Mary) Schadwinkel, her grandchildren Andrea Krueger, Erin Rosenthal, Tim Engelhaupt, Bryan Benzel, Shaylah Stephens, Kayleigh Hickman as well as 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 27, 2023 at 10 a.m.&nbsp; at the United Methodist Church in Alliance with Pastor Gideon Achi officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Highland Park Memory Support, the United Methodist Church, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
