Funeral Services for Alice Wanita Serres, age 91, of Chadron, NE will be Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 10 a.m. at First Congregational Church with Dr. Russ Seger officiating. Burial will be in the Bodarc Cemetery north of Harrison, NE.&nbsp;

Mrs. Serres died Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Chadron, Nebraska. She was born December 30, 1929, at Benedict, Nebraska to Arthur Raymond and Mary Alice (Doak) Glass. She grew up and received her early education around Hemingford, Nebraska. She graduated from Hemingford High School in 1948 and received her Teaching Certificate from Chadron State College. She taught rural schools in western Nebraska.

Alice married Ernest Paul Serres, August 10, 1950, at Hemingford, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Lloyd Arnold Serres, sisters Frances Delores Glass, Grace Nellie Heinz, brother Bert Arthur Glass, grandson Joseph Dean Gibbons, and granddaughter Tommi Ann Serres

Her survivors include her sons, Rodney Wayne (Annette) Serres of Big Fork, Montana, Thomas Allen Serres of Chadron, NE, Daniel Lee (Therese) Serres of Clackamas, Oregon; daughters Nancy Charlene Knaub of Chadron, NE and Kathy Lanell (Jerry) Gibbons of Mitchell, Nebraska; sister Vera Jean (Jerry) Larson of Rapid City, South Dakota; stepbrother Lloyd Heine of Gering, Nebraska; 24 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Geraldine Elizabeth “Betty” Waltman of Chadron, Nebraska will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, Nebraska. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron, Nebraska.

On December 26, 2021 the Good Lord called our sweet Mother, Betty home to join Daddy.

Geraldine Elizabeth (Betty) (Haskell) Waltman was born July 14, 1929 at the home ranch in Cherry County, Nebraska. She was the youngest of six children born to Charles and Florence (Westover) Haskell. Growing up on the ranch in Brown County as a teenager, she stacked hay with a team of horses. When she was in high school, she stayed with her sister-in-law in Chadron, Nebraska where she met the love of her life, Frank Elmer (Bus) Waltman. To that union four children were born: Kay Merrill, Riley (Dee) Waltman, Christie (Andy) Dickinson, and Delinda Royse.

As newlyweds they worked on ranches where Betty cooked for the ranch crews. When Bus went to work for the Forest Service, Betty taught at the rural Strand School, driving 40 miles each way on a country road. In 1965, Bus and Betty moved the family to Chadron. In Chadron, Betty went back to school and received her Bachelor of Library Science Degree and became the Head Librarian at the Chadron Public Library.

Betty was devoted to and loved Bus and her family unconditionally. Her favorite memoires were of going to Country Dances, playing cards with neighbors in the Sandhills, and going to rodeos with her children.

Betty is lovingly remembered and survived by children Kay, Riley, Christie, and Delinda. Grandchildren: Melanie (Boone) Herring, Sid Merrill, Razen (Kali) Merrill, Jace (Monica) Waltman, Jackie (Josh) Krejci, Jody (Kelly) Elverum, Trisha (Josh) Clevenger; seventeen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Bus, her parents, her in-laws, her five siblings, and their spouses, her son-in-law Larry Merrill, granddaughters Tiffany Royse, and Teran Dickinson, and Maggie Krejci.

A memorial has been established for the Ronald McDonald House and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain Chapel, Po Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Geraldine Elizabeth “Betty” Waltman  (1929-2021)

Michael John Wall, 71, passed away December 14, 2021. He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mike grew up in Greenwood and later moved to Alliance. He moved to Wahoo October 31,2021.

Michael is survived by Bob Wall, Jr., Mary (Bill) Jeppson, Al (Deb) Wall, Pat (Mike) Correa, Fran (Mike) Marymee, Marlene (Harry) Forney, Sam (Tara) Wall, Ron (Lori) Wall, Don (Shelly) Wall, Jerry Wall, Helen Strode, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. Wall, Sr., Lila F. (Bauers) Wall, sister Lila Josephine DeRaad, infant brother and sister Allen William Wall and Theresa Ann Wall, and brother-in-law Randy Strode.

In 1970, Michael graduated from Ashland Greenwood High School and that same year joined the US Air Force until 1974. He worked at National Crane from 1979-2003. After retirement, Michael was a seasonal employee at Yellowstone National Park as well as a custodian at Alliance Public School.

Michael was a huge member of the community.&nbsp; For 18 years, he volunteered at the Greenwood Fire and Rescue Department.&nbsp; He was a member of the Village of Greenwood Board of Trustees for 8 years, 2 years as Chairman, and 3 years Planning Commission.&nbsp; Michael was a past President and Financial Secretary at United Steel Workers of America Local Union #8612 Waverly. He was apart of Sr. Knights of the Alter, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greenwood, Nebraska. Past Chairman Case County Democrats, past member of State Central Committee Nebraska Democrats, and Omaha Area Advisory Council United Steelworkers of America. Appointed two terms to Nebraska Judicial Review Board by Governors, Ben Nelson and Mike Johanns.&nbsp; Michael was a volunteer at Cass County Election Board Worker on election days and he helped with the American Red Cross for 4 years.

In his free time, he enjoyed photography, reading, camping, movies, traveling, cooking, and computers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at St Mary's Catholic Church, 1625 Adams St, Ashland, NE 68003.

Roger Ren Garwood, 67, of Scottsbluff, passed away Monday, December 27, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. His memorial service will be held at 10am on Friday, December 31st, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Craig Collins officiating. Cremation has taken place per his wishes and there will be no visitation. He was blessed with two daughters, Stephanie &amp; Jennifer. He was a career businessman and was involved in several local businesses during his career. He retired in December 2020.

Roger was an avid sports fan and regularly cheered for the New York Yankees, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Minnesota Vikings. He had an amazing passion for golf and took every opportunity to hit the links. His cherished past times included watching sports and spending time with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Max Garwood and his brother, Mike Garwood.

He is survived by his mother, Gretchen (Hawley) Garwood; wife, Mary (Hehnke) Garwood ; daughters, Stephanie Garwood-McConkey (Levi) and Jennifer Garwood-McGraw (Garret); siblings, Janet Garwood-Joslin (Alan) and Tim Garwood (Shannon); grandchildren, Ashlynn, Gavin, and Jaxon; grand-dogs, Beau, Jude, and Bailey, and numerous other family members.

Galvan on January 2, 1981 in San Benito, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The couple made their home and raised their family in Bridgeport, Nebraska. He was a member and usher of the Iglesia Bethel in Alliance. 

Jorge is survived by his wife Maria; children: Jorge (Tiffany) Galvan and their children Nadia and Mia, Valerie (Vaughn) Jordan and their children Landon, Braelyn, and Kinsley, and Jaime Galvan; sisters: Maria Consuelo, Nora, Lupina, and Martha; nieces, nephews, and extended family members. &nbsp; Harry Wayne “Barney” Dean, 97, of Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard. Per his request, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport with Pastor Ray Cook officiating.

Military honors will be rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the Bridgeport Sons Of The American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be given in care of the church or the Friends of the Bridgeport Library. He served in the United States Navy from October 14, 1944 until his honorable discharge on June 24, 1946. He was a World War II Veteran, was stationed on the Ship PC 602 in the Pacific, and attained the rank or Radarman Third Class. 

Barney married Eleanor Decker on July 4, 1949 at the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Nebraska. The couple made their home, raised their family, and farmed and ranched east of Bridgeport until the 1994 tornado destroyed their home, at which time they moved to Bridgeport. 

Barney was a member of Morrill County Sheriff’s Posse, Bridgeport Rifle Club, Past President of the Bridgeport Board of Education, and a member of the First Baptist Church. 

Survivors include wife, Eleanor Dean; sons Bill (Patti) Dean, Mick (Sandy) Dean, and Monte (Tammy) Dean; grandchildren: Brandi (Scott) Linders, Brooke (Brad) Gates, Melanie (Rob) Dean, Tiffany (Noah) Lawonn, Jerod (Kelly) Dean, Jacob (Nicole) Dean, Joshua (Whitney) Dean, and Jase (Amber) Dean; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Stephanie Frohman 44, of Alliance, Nebraska died unexpectedly December 22, 2021 at her home. Stephanie was born July 13th, 1977 in Alliance to Jack and Jane (Beiber) Moss.

Stephanie was a graduate of Alliance High School and continued her nursing education through Western Nebraska Community College, earning a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She had a passion for helping others as a nurse and continued this during her time working as a paraprofessional at Emerson Elementary.

Stephanie married Aaron Frohman August 20th, 1999 and was blessed with three children, Keegan, Braden and Brooklyn.

She was known for being loving and kind to others and always willing to help anyone. She made the world a better and brighter place for everyone that she was around. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and had an incredible love for her dogs and other animals. Stephanie loved her students and was active with school activities, always cheering on the Bulldogs. She especially found joy in watching her own children compete in sports, Brooklyn in basketball, Braden in bowling, and Keegan in football.

Stephanie is survived by her husband Aaron, children Keegan, Brooklyn and Braden, mother Jane Moss, siblings Ryan (Stephanie) Moss, Renee (Chris Callan) Moss, her grandfather, Verle Moss and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Stephanie was preceded in death by her father, Jack Moss, her grandparents, Eugene and Phyllis Beiber and Dorothy Moss and her aunts, Nancy Debus and Jennifer Kyle.&nbsp;

A viewing will be held on Monday, December 27th from 5-7 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Wednesday. December 29th at 2 p.m. with Father Matt Koperski officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; A reception to be held at Newberry's following burial.

Sandra (Sandi) Lucille Groves Shanks was born on July 6, 1940, in Ainsworth, NE to Agatha and Clarence Groves. She was the eldest child and sister to Carolyn Groves Hand and Steve Groves. Her early years were spent in the Kilgore, NE and Cody, NE communities where her father was the depot agent for Chicago Northwestern Railroad. She attended Chadron State College for one year and worked for the telephone company as a switchboard operator.

In 1960, Sandi married Glenn Shanks in Gordon, NE. To this union, three children were born: Carmen Drummond (Brian) of Omaha, NE; Loren Shanks (Kandie) of Greeley, CO; and Darren Shanks (Kristy) of Westminster, CO. Sandi was the proud grandmother of 4…Nick, Andrea, Dylan and Kenly, and great-grandmother of 3…Kennedy, Logan and Violet.

Sandi and Glenn were long time members of the First Presbyterian Church of Gordon, NE. She was part of the Presbyterian Women’s Circle. She proudly planted and maintained the petunia garden on the corner of 2nd and Oak Streets for many years.

Sandi enjoyed music and was known to sing and hum melodies whether or not anyone was around to listen. She enjoyed baking, quilting, planting flowers, bird watching, crossword puzzles, and embroidery. She gave many embroidered pillowcases and quilts as gifts to family and friends.

Sandi had an infectious laugh and a spirited sense of humor. She cherished her family and friends over the years. Making special treats and holiday meals was one of her great joys, and much enjoyed by many.

Sandi is survived by her 3 children, their spouses, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, her parents, Clarence and Agatha, and her sister Carolyn.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 27, 2021, 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Gordon Cemetery.

A Memorial Fund has been set up in Sandi’s name and any donations can be sent to First United Presbyterian Church, 136 N. Oak Street, Gordon, NE 69343.

On Dec. 18th, 2021, In Cheyenne, WY Veterans hospital Harold entered his new life unexpectedly at the ripe ol’ age of 73. Harold is survived by his younger brother Lawrence (Colleen) Jacobs, Niece Jessica (Maclin) Staman and family, Niece Jeana Jacobs (James Brown) and family, Nephew Joshua (Heather) Jacobs and family. His Best Friend Zeke Seegrist and his small circle of good friends. He is joining his loving parents Imogene and Howard Jacobs, Brothers Odell and Linn Jacobs.

Harold was born in Crawford, Ne on Aug. 12, 1948. Graduated Crawford High in 1966. His senior year of high school he joined the Navy reserve and following in his older brothers’ footsteps he served 3 honorable years in the Navy. Throughout high school he spent several summers working for a ranch in the sandhills of Nebraska, this is where her found his love of being a cowboy, horses and rodeo. Somewhere within this timeline he earned his nickname HUGO. This nickname will continue being a part of his life through our stories of him. After returning home from the service, he went to work as a Truck driver in Scottsbluff, Casper then over to Cheyenne where he decided to put roots down with the love of his life Sandy Stoopman. He loved his quiet little ranch and log home. He preferred having piece and quiet over the chaos of town. Harold was a man of very few words, but a heart of gold. When he took you in as friend or family he would show you through his actions not his words. Never ask anyone for help but would be the first to help. I will leave you with this, which I feel fits Harold well. Talk low, talk slow and don’t say too much: John Wayne.

Harold (Hugo) Wayne Jacobs (1948 - 2021)

Josephine Roma Roland 98, of Hemingford, Nebraska, passed away on December 14, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Josephine was born on September 15, 1923 to Candita Stella Carl Antonio and Salvatore Roma in Monessen, Pennsylvania.&nbsp; She attended school in Monessen, and after high school went on to attend National School of Business in Pittsburg where she obtained a 2-year degree in accounting.

Josephine moved to California with her mother, her step-father Salvatore DiGioia and youngest brother; and began work in payroll at Norton Army Base in San Bernardino, California.&nbsp; She enjoyed dressing up and going out dancing with her friends.&nbsp; She met Robert (Bob) Lee Roland at one such dance and they married June 4, 1949.&nbsp;

Bob and Jo were married for over 64 years and had 4 children, Nancy, Carl, Lynda and Alan.&nbsp; Bob and Josephine purchased a farm near Hemingford in 1964; they spilt their time between the two homes each year.&nbsp; Farming in the summer and running Robert Lee Roland Contractor and Building supply in the winter.&nbsp; Josephine was a meticulous bookkeeper.&nbsp; In the winter of 1978, they moved to Nebraska permanently.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Josephine was a dedicated mom to all of her children, raising all of them to go on to accomplish great things. Family came first, she spent her retirement years attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, school concerts, and plays.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Hemingford, belonged to the Progressive Homemakers Extension Club, and was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Josephine was predeceased by her parents, her two older brothers, her younger brother Ross DiGioia, her husband Bob, and her son-in-law Dennis Zajic. She is survived by Nancy (Roland) Zajic, Carl Roland, Lynda Roland, Alan Roland, Loretta Roland, her bonus son Steve Dillion, her seven grandkids and nine great-grandkids. She left many happy memories among family and friends.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. Catherine Sutera and the staff at Chadron Community Hospital for their care and compassion.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; Jerry Leroy Harms, 81, of Minatare, NE, passed away Monday, December 6th, 2021 at Chimney Rock Villa with family by his side. 

A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 13th, 2021 at 11:00am at Dugan Kramer Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Schaaf officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Jerry was born January 8th, 1940 in Grainton, NE to Earl and Josephine (Rowley) Harms and received his early education in Venango Nebraska Schools, graduating from Venango High School in 1957. He married Joyce Chapman on September 29th, 1959 in Grant, NE, to whom four children were born: Jerry Lee, Tammy, Richard, and Brenda. 

He married Jennifer Schaaf on March 28th, 1988 in Sidney, NE and they made their home in Minatare.

 Jerry enlisted in the Air Force in 1957. He was an Air Craft Engine Mechanic for 12 years and was honorably discharged in 1969 with the rank of Sargent. He was known as “Sarge” by the men with whom he served. After his discharge, he worked for a local feedlot for 49 years. His duties included feedlot manager and mill manager. He was a member of the Scottsbluff Patriot Guard and took part in the escort for the WWII Veteran’s Journey to Washington, D.C. Jerry was on the Minatare City Council for 11 years and served as the Mayor of Minatare for two years.

 Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. It was important to him to be involved in his children and grandchildren’s lives. Jerry had a heart of gold and would help anyone. He had a great love for riding his motorcycle, camping, boating, and anything involving being outdoors.

 Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Harms of Minatare; sons, Jerry Lee (Connie) Harms of Gering, and Richard Harms of Minatare; daughter, Tammy (Scott) Lightfritz of Sidney; stepson, Scott Bernhardt (Char Buskirk) of Gering; stepdaughter, Janel (Mike) Marcoe of Gering; brother, Barney (Debi) Harms of Julesburg, CO; sister-in-law, Eleanor Harms of Milford, NE; brother-in-law, Mike (Val) Schaaf of Grand Island, NE; grandchildren, Kelli (Tyson) Harper, Mindi (Darrell) Woosley, Shelby (David) Gurney, Shawna (Matt) MacIntosh, Brandon Lightfritz, Brittany (Bryce) Huston, Natasha (David) Morrison, Caitlyn (Hunter) Bollman, Eric Bernhardt, Brooke (Marcelino) Alvarez, and Garret Tinsley (Jadyn Block); 15 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Merna Lee Ganshert of Gordon, NE was born August 15, 1948 in Gordon Hospital. She started life in a converted garage south of Rushville, NE and then moved to Batesland, SD where she attended school through the eighth grade.

While in Batesland, the family attended the Lutheran church where she was baptized at nine years old. She took catechism and joined the church at the age of 13 (eighth grade). After moving to Gordon, she attended the Methodist church where she is a member.

Merna attended Gordon High School where she took college prep courses and worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Gordon Memorial Hospital. She graduated Gordon High School in 1966. In 1967, she graduated from the Institute for Medical Technique in Minneapolis, MN as a dental assistant. She went to work for the Ray Dental Group in Rapid City, SD.

Merna then met Bernie when coworkers set them up by asking them to babysit on the same night. They were married in Gordon on July 15, 1967. For the next 16 years, Merna was an Air Force wife and mother. She was able to see a lot of the world including Biloxi, MS, Tampa, FL, Burkburnett and Wichita Falls, TX. By this time Merna had 3 sons, and the family then moved to Germany, where Merna visited many countries throughout Europe. While in Germany, she also worked with ceramics and decorated cakes for all occasions. In 1982, they returned to the states and lived in Shawnee, OK for a year where she completed a secretarial course at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech. When Bernie retired from the Air Force in 1983, the family then moved to Gordon, NE.

Merna sewed and hand-crafted her kids’ costumes every year, crocheted blankets, and painted on canvas. She first enjoyed crafts as a child with her grandmother, Ehrma Reeves, who taught her to embroider and paint fabrics.

While in Gordon, NE, Merna worked as a Teacher’s Aide for Gordon Public Schools, a Teller/Bookkeeper for Abbott Bank, a switchboard operator and biller at Gordon Memorial Hospital, and a Secretary for Gordon Elementary. In 2000, she continued her education at Northwest Nebraska Community College for a certificate in medical transcription. For the next 6 years, she worked as a Medical Transcriptionist in Gordon Memorial Hospital.

In 2006, Merna joined Bernie in retirement and enjoyed traveling and camping, visiting with family and friends across the country, and seeing sites – from Alaska to Florida to California and everywhere in between, and particularly to Arizona where they spent many winter months with their son Eric and his family. She also loved returning home to Gordon to spend time with family and friends in her home, filling it with laughter and love. She will be remembered for her love and dedication to her husband, children, family, and friends, and for her faith in God.

Merna Lee Ganshert passed away on December 8, 2021 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, NE, with her beloved husband Bernie and sister Glenda by her side.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her father, Norman L. Davis, mother Norma L. Reeves Davis Child, mother and father-in-law Lawrence and Anna Ganshert, brother Gary M. Davis, brother-in-laws Joseph and Alan Ganshert, Uncle Kenny Allison, Uncle Melvin Davis, Aunt Lavonne “Dee Dee” Burrows, and Aunt Lois Sine. She is survived by her husband, Bernard L. She started life in a converted garage south of Rushville, NE and then moved to Batesland, SD where she attended school through the eighth grade.While in Batesland, the family attended the Lutheran church where she was baptized at nine years old. She took catechism and joined the church at the age of 13 (eighth grade). After moving to Gordon, she attended the Methodist church where she is a member.Merna attended Gordon High School where she took college prep courses and worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Gordon Memorial Hospital. She graduated Gordon High School in 1966. In 1967, she graduated from the Institute for Medical Technique in Minneapolis, MN as a dental assistant. She went to work for the Ray Dental Group in Rapid City, SD.Merna then met Bernie when coworkers set them up by asking them to babysit on the same night. They were married in Gordon on July 15, 1967. For the next 16 years, Merna was an Air Force wife and mother. She was able to see a lot of the world including Biloxi, MS, Tampa, FL, Burkburnett and Wichita Falls, TX. By this time Merna had 3 sons, and the family then moved to Germany, where Merna visited many countries throughout Europe. While in Germany, she also worked with ceramics and decorated cakes for all occasions. In 1982, they returned to the states and lived in Shawnee, OK for a year where she completed a secretarial course at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech. Janette Anderson (1943 - 2021)

Grant Charles Mann, 40, passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 9, 2021, near his home east of Alliance, Nebraska. He was born to Gaylord and Sandra Mann in Ogallala, Nebraska on March 6, 1981.

Grant spent most of his years growing up on the Mann Ranch near Taylor and graduated from Loup County High School in 1999. He then pursued an electrical degree from Mid Plains Community College in North Platte and soon thereafter began working in commercial construction. Grant’s experiences as an electrician would lead him through a variety of jobs including an open strip coal mine, his favorite position, to the railroad, to communications. The adaptation of his skills was endless.

Grant married Stacy Purdum in Seneca, Nebraska on September 4, 2004. They immediately set off on adventures after Stacy graduated college, living in the Teton mountains, the Big Horn mountains, and the Pine Ridge, where they loved all things outdoors.

Grant’s passion was firearms and hunting, his knowledge base was staggering, taking a back seat only to being a husband and then a father. Grant and Stacy were blessed with a son, Gavin, on November 6, 2008, followed by the shock of their life---twins! ---on April 9, 2015. Grant’s biggest joy was so very obviously his trio of boys, who love him back just as much.

Grant did not have a mean bone in his body and will always be remembered as someone who was always willing to help out, lend a smile, or share a belly laugh.

Grant is preceded in death by his father, Gaylord Mann. He is survived by his wife Stacy and their sons, Gavin, Ethan, and Owen Mann, mom Sandra Mann, sister Stacey (Todd) Adamson, brother Mitch (Kimberly) Mann, nieces Lindsay (Kelly) Taylor, Sydney Adamson, and Maureen Mann, nephews JT Adamson, Konrad Mann, Marshall Mann, Jeremiah Mann, and Noble Mann, and a whole host of other family and in-laws that love him dearly.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Monday, December 13th in Burwell at Hitchcock Funeral Home. Services will be held at the First Congregational Church in Burwell on December 14th at 10:30 am followed by graveside services at Kent Cemetery. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to Stacy Mann for education funds for Grant’s sons or to Kent Cemetery.

On August 27, 2021, due to complications with Covid, Patrick Lee Toedtli was gathered to his savior, Jesus Christ. 

Pat was born January 5, 1961 to Marv and Kathie (Parker) Toedtli at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance. 

Our family shared many wonderful occasions with two sets of loving grandparents and other close family members. He and his siblings spent many carefree, fun filled hours at the farm of his fraternal grandma and grandpa. 

Pat liked sports, played basketball and little league baseball, and was, of course a Husker fan. As a child, he was keen to watch cartoons, B movies, and sci-fi on TV. When he was about four years old, he woke up from his nap wanting to watch one of his favorites, such as Bullwinkle or the Flintstones, and found that the program was over. He burst into tears and exclaimed, “Somebody watched them all”. 

He attended Grandview, Middle School, and graduated from Alliance High School in 1979. 

During his teen years, he worked in construction and the Pizza Hut. He earned his associates degree at the Denver Institute of Art. 

While living in Denver, he met and married Annette Barlow, and they lived there for several years. Two daughters, Alyssa and Kylee, completed their family. Some twenty years ago they moved to Clermont, FL where he was an employee of the grounds keeping crew at Orlando Executive Airport. He really liked his job, and just before he passed away, had received recognition for 20 years of outstanding service. 

While living in Florida, Pat and his family took advantage of the many attractions of that area, attended concerts, went to the amusement parks, traveled and went on cruises- this he very much enjoyed. His favorite musical was Les Misérables, which had a very profound and special meaning to him and Annette. Pat’s favorite quote was, “To love another person is to see the face of God!”. 

Patrick was a kind person, loved their rescue animals, and had a quirky and fun sense of humor. Those who knew him were deeply touched by his sincerity and strong convictions. He was not shy in sharing his faith in Jesus, and took his Bible to work with him every day. He led Bible studies with fellow workers, and they discussed scripture and world events. 

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Annette, his daughters Alyssa (Kyle) Jackson, Kylee (James) Martin, in-laws Jesse and Wayne Barlow, and step brother-in-law Don McCourt all of Clermont, FL. Also, his parents, Marv and Kathie Toedtli, brother Chris of Alliance, his sisters Jody Williamson (Dick) of Fort Worth, and Dana (Dan) Fredrick of Grand Island, his uncles, Rod Parker of Alliance, Joe Parker (Kathy) of Ridgefield, Washington, one niece and two nephews, and several cousins.

 Family members who have gone home before him are his grandparents Richard and Margaret Toedtli, Harold and Dorothy Parker, his uncle Don Toedtli, his aunt Terry Dunham, and his sister-in-law Janet Toedtli. 

The family is planning a memorial service to be held at 10:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church on December 18, 2021. Gifts in Pat’s honor will go to First Presbyterian Church, Paws, the Gideons, and Post Playhouse.

Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Adams (Tasso) passed away at her home in Eddyville, NE on Saturday December 4th 2021 at age 54 surrounded by her husband, daughters, and sister.

She was born on May 20th, 1967 in Alliance, NE to Barbara Jean Tasso and Gilbert Tasso. She was the youngest of three after Sandra (Sandy) and William Russell (Rusty). She attended Saint Agnes Academy before graduating from Alliance High School where she met Shannon Fickel.&nbsp; Together they had two daughters named Shae Dalaney and Chelsie Lee.

In 2009 she met Michael Adams in Grand Island, NE whom she married on July 23, 2014 and later settled in Eddyville, Ne.&nbsp; She loved to cook, bake, and play with her dog Skeeter.&nbsp; She was a very fun and animated person, with a beautifully contagious smile and humor that would put a smile on anyone’s face.

On September 9th, 2021 she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.&nbsp; She decided chemotherapy wasn’t for her and wanted to spend her time with family.&nbsp; She is survived in death by her husband Michael Adams, her two children Shae (Christopher) Finkey, Chelsie Tasso (Levi Hoagland fiancé), step daughter Whitney (Chris) Haupt, sister Sandra (Daniel) Perkins, and brother Rusty (Christie) Tasso. And also her grandchildren Kail, Gage, Hailey, Marley and Mila along with her nieces and nephews Jake, Jordan, Jeremy Perkins and Kylie and Eric Tasso.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Barbara Tasso, her aunt Pat, grandfather Richard, and great grandmother Doris.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 9 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance. Reverend Gary Belk will officiate. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Adams (Tasso) (1964 - 2021)

Blanche (Swyden) Essay, 99, died December 3, 2021 at Heritage Estates in Gering, NE, just 23 days shy of her 100th birthday. Blanche was born Dec. 27, 1921 in Wichita, KS to Edward and Selma Swyden, the youngest of her 4 siblings: Elizabeth, Nellie, Louis and Norman who all preceded her in death. The family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Blanche attended Henry C. Kumpf Elementary school and graduated from Paseo High School in 1939. After graduation, Blanche worked at a dress shop in Kansas City for a couple years before working at Goldman Jewelry. In 1941 Blanche met the love of her life, John J. Essay, of Alliance, at Ft. Leavenworth, KS when he was a Private First Class in the Army and just before he served in World War II.

The two were reunited on November 27, 1945, engaged in March 1946 and married at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Kansas City on November 11, 1946.&nbsp;After a three week honeymoon traveling in the U.S. the couple returned to Alliance on Thanksgiving Day to make their home.

During Blanche’s 75 years in Alliance she was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, served as President and Vice President of Holy Rosary Altar Society, and was involved in many community organizations, including BPOE Does, the American Legion Auxiliary #7, Carnegie Arts, Friends of the Library, Box Butte General Hospital Auxiliary, the Knight Museum, International Friends Club and the RSVP Organization. Her hobbies included bowling, cooking and baking and she loved sharing her Lebanese pastries as gifts. Blanche felt great joy being a part of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives as they were growing up, often traveling with her husband to spend time with them. One of her most memorable trips was to Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines in 1980 to visit her daughter Lorie and husband John Korber and family. During the trip, Blanche and her husband were given a tour of the naval aircraft carrier the USS Midway, which her son-in-law, a pilot, was stationed on at the time.

Blanche is survived by her daughters Linda Daney of Austin, TX, Karen Essay of Albuquerque, NM, Lorie (John) Korber of Green Valley, AZ and Alliance and Liz Essay of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren Mara (Steve) Jensen, Buffy (Joseph) DeLuna, Pasha, Sabrina (Baris), Eli (Jazmine) and Seth Korber and Amira Essay; and great-grandchildren Kayley and Carmella Yearley, Melody Vanderveur, Alyssa and Kinley DeLuna, Anthony Gonzalez, Samuel, Kixton, Kamden, Amelia, Ramzey, Zoe and Cruze Korber. She is also survived by her two sisters-in-law, Joan Essay of Alliance and Jo Alice Swyden of Kansas City, Missouri as well as many nephews and nieces, and great nieces and nephews that completed her family, including Michael Francis Essay Jr. (Dona), also of Alliance.

Mrs. Essay was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband, John Essay and her grandson, Aaron Bunnell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 7 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. Matt Koperski officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A wake service will be Monday, Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home and at the wake service.

Memorials may be given to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Agnes Academy Foundation, Alliance Volunteer Fire Department, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

 </figure>Blanche (Swyden) Essay, 99, died December 3, 2021 at Heritage Estates in Gering, NE, just 23 days shy of her 100th birthday. Blanche was born Dec. 27, 1921 in Wichita, KS to Edward and Selma Swyden, the youngest of her 4 siblings: Elizabeth, Nellie, Louis and Norman who all preceded her in death. The family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Blanche attended Henry C. Kumpf Elementary school and graduated from Paseo High School in 1939. After graduation, Blanche worked at a dress shop in Kansas City for a couple years before working at Goldman Jewelry. In 1941 Blanche met the love of her life, John J. Essay, of Alliance, at Ft. Leavenworth, KS when he was a Private First Class in the Army and just before he served in World War II.The two were reunited on November 27, 1945, engaged in March 1946 and married at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Kansas City on November 11, 1946.&nbsp;After a three week honeymoon traveling in the U.S. the couple returned to Alliance on Thanksgiving Day to make their home.During Blanche’s 75 years in Alliance she was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, served as President and Vice President of Holy Rosary Altar Society, and was involved in many community organizations, including BPOE Does, the American Legion Auxiliary #7, Carnegie Arts, Friends of the Library, Box Butte General Hospital Auxiliary, the Knight Museum, International Friends Club and the RSVP Organization. Her hobbies included bowling, cooking and baking and she loved sharing her Lebanese pastries as gifts. Blanche felt great joy being a part of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives as they were growing up, often traveling with her husband to spend time with them. One of her most memorable trips was to Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines in 1980 to visit her daughter Lorie and husband John Korber and family. Blanche (Swyden) Essay (1921 - 2021)

Edward E. McCoy, 62, passed away at his rural Alliance home on Friday, December 3, 2021.

He was born on January 3, 1959 in York, Nebraska to Arthur and Elenor (McDonald) McCoy. His family moved to the Alliance area in his youth and he attended school in Alliance.&nbsp; After high school he began working for Burlington Northern Railroad for 10 years.&nbsp; He then began working as a plumber and was self-employed, as “The Country Plumber,” at the time of his death.

Many people knew Ed from his years of participating in Demolition Derbies, whether it was him driving in them, his involvement in helping in the operation of the derby, or him mentoring the younger generation of drivers.&nbsp; He also had a passion for rebuilding older model vehicles.

He is survived by his sisters, Karen (Rick) Turman and Virginia Kohler of Alliance, his nieces and nephews, Kelsey Turman, Travis (Kimberly) Turman, Joshua Taylor and Daniel Taylor, and his great-nieces and nephew, MaKena, Addyson and Remington Turman, and his special friend, Sandy Elliott.&nbsp; In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gerald McCoy and Virgil Kohler.

Edward E. McCoy (1959 - 2021)

Jeffrey Scott Benda, 44, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2021 in Nebraska, while visiting family. Jeff was born on May 21, 1977 in Alliance, Nebraska to Rick and Gina Benda. 

Raised in Nebraska, Jeff was a 1995 graduate of Hemingford High School. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance in 1999. While at the university, Jeff was a member of Delta Upsilon (DU) fraternity. He also relished his role as Student Manager for the Nebraska Men's Basketball team. In 2020, he received his Executive Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Colorado.

 Jeff committed his entire 22-year career to Altec Industries, a company he loved and faithfully served as Vice President of Sales, Service, and Supply. In Jeff's free time, he enjoyed playing golf, traveling with his family, and cheering on his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers. 

After being diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia, Jeff was committed to raising awareness and funds for "Be the Match", a non-profit organization dedicated to helping patients receive the life-saving bone marrow transplant they needed. Jeff set a record for the organization by raising $50,000 of his $7,500 goal to give others a second chance at life.

 Jeff never met a stranger and was intentional with his words and actions-always looking for ways to make others feel seen, known, and appreciated. Jeff was passionate about making an impact and never missed an opportunity to love and serve others. He even encouraged those in his MBA class to join his 4:30 a.m. Peloton rides and because of his winsome personality, they not only agreed to purchase bikes so they could ride with him, he also convinced them to buy Peloton stock. Jeff was a visionary who excelled in leadership roles and was esteemed by all of his friends and colleagues. 

Jeff was many things to many people and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Above all, being a dedicated son, husband, and devoted father defined who Jeff was. He adored his wife, Kali, and daughters, Zoey and Alexa, and if asked, he would say his greatest accomplishment was being a husband and father. In addition to his parents, Rick and Gina Benda, Jeff leaves to carry on his memory, his wife, the former Kali Macy, whom he married March 20, 2004; daughters, Zoey (15) and Alexa (14); siblings, Brian (Kim), Matthew (Kristen), and Kristine (Josh) Sole; maternal grandmother, Georgina Bates; in-laws, Larry (Linda) Macy and Karen (Bill) Gibbons; sister-in-law, Jenna (Chris) Devault; and many special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 4601 Valleydale Rd., Birmingham, AL 35242. The family will receive guests following the service from 12-2 p.m. at Inverness Country Club, 1 Country Club Dr., Birmingham, AL 35242.

Timothy "Tim" Eugene Wickham, 49, passed away at Banner Health in Torrington, WY on November 28th, 2021 surrounded by his family.&nbsp;

He was born August 30th, 1972 to George &amp; Carol (Wyland) Wickham in Banbury, England, and grew up in Hemingford, NE. After Tim graduated from Hemingford High School in 1990, he went on to work with BNSF Railroad as a foreman for 25 years.

Married in 1994, Tim and Becki (Ritter) Wickham went on to have 2 children, Madison and Levi.

In 2018 he moved to Denver, CO to be closer to his children, grand-puppies, and the beautiful Rocky Mountains.

Tim was special in many ways. He was a loyal friend, talented artist, loving father, hard worker and had a great sense of humor. Sharing a strong bond with mother nature, animals were always showing him their affection and he always glowed after walking the dogs and going on hikes.

Tim is survived by his children Madison and Levi and their mother, Becki; His siblings John, Terry, Tamela, and Michael, as well as his extended family and an abundance of friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Tonya Mracek, and his niece Brittany Shaver.

Services will be held at Lifeway Church,&nbsp; 1341 East M St., Torrington, WY 82240,&nbsp;Saturday, December 4th at 11am.&nbsp;

Doris J. “Dee” Yost, 79, died Monday, November 29, 2021 at Box Butte General Hospital.

She was born February 2, 1942 in Kearney, Nebraska to Dale and Elaine (Robbins) Stubbs.

She married Ronald Yost on January 27, 1978 in Great Falls, Montana.

Dee enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing.&nbsp; She had a “green thumb” and also enjoyed gardening.&nbsp; She was an avid reader, artist and painter.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Yost of Alliance; her children, Brian (Richelle) Boslau of Lincoln, Kevin Boslau of Alliance, Richard Boslau of Alliance, and Steve Boslau of Alliance; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Donna Stubbs of Cozad.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Roy Boslau, and her brother, Jerry Stubbs.

Memorial services will be held Friday, December 3, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Reverend Gary Belk officiating.&nbsp; The family requests casual dress.&nbsp; Interment will be held at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska at a later date.

Doris J. “Dee” Yost (1942 - 2021)

Wade Russell Hack was born in Alliance, Nebraska on Friday, September 1, 1961, to Russell and Wilma (Soester) Hack.

He left us on Friday, November 19, 2021, at his home in Aztec, New Mexico, after being in failing health the last four years.

Wade grew up in Nebraska, receiving his elementary education in rural schools in Box Butte and Dawes counties. He attended Chadron High School his freshman and sophomore years, and then transferred to Alliance High, for his junior and senior years, graduating in 1980.

Wade loved the country life, horses, cows and haying and valued every minute he could spend with his Grandad Soester working with horses.

He tried his hand at bull and bronc riding and broke horses when he was younger.

He worked in construction and ranching in the Sandhills, before moving to New Mexico in 1985, where he was also employed in home construction, as well as truck driving and the oil fields.

Wade married Darlene (Crawford) Powers on June 23, 2006 and gained two beautiful daughters. Wade swore he would never have kids but he ended up being an amazing father.
