Eugene E. “Gene” Walker, 93, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Box Butte General Hospital.

Graveside services will be Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alliance Cemetery with Pastor Tim Stadem officiating.

He was born on March 11, 1927 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance to Fay and Helen (Hansen) Walker.

Gene served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a&nbsp; lifelong Alliance area farmer and a member of the Eagles Club.

On June 15, 1948 he was united in marriage to Betty J. Hashman.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, his sons and their wives, Rick and Janet, Dan and Jackie and Dennis all of Alliance and his daughter and her husband, Diane and Ron Trowbridge of Brighton, CO, his grandchildren Erica Muhr, Landy, Nathan, Brooks, Dylan, Hayden &amp; Quinton Walker, Stephanie &amp; Kaitlyn Schafer, Mackenzie Stabnow, &amp; Saige Rasmussen and 19 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He is also survived by his sister, Arlene Howell of Sun Lakes, AZ.

Eugene E. “Gene” Walker (1927 - 2021)

Jesse J. Bell, 45, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at his home.

Jesse was born to Jim and Patty (Kilgroe) Bell on May 3, 1976 in Alliance, Nebraska. Jesse grew up in Berea where he attended country school at District #39 in Berea. He attended Hemingford High School until the second semester of his senior year and finished high school at Alliance High School, class of 1995.

Jesse learned how to "tinker on cars and pickups" from his dad and how to weld. He was good at welding and chose to do that as his life's work. He was a contracted welder for the Navy in Illinois, worked for Caterpillar Company in Kansas and also helped build Wal-Mart Stores in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado. At the time of his death, he was employed as a welder for H&amp;H Sanitation in Alliance.

Jesse was a big Nebraska Husker football fan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Fishing was his favorite thing to do. He loved most of all going fishing with his two sons, Devin and Damien. The times fishing with his sons were some of his most treasured memories. He was very proud of his son's athletic abilities. He tried very hard to attend as many of their sporting activities of wrestling and football as possible. He was extremely proud of his son Devin's graduation and how successful he has been with his life following graduation. He will be looking down with much pride as his son, Damien graduates from high school May 8, 2021. One major feather in his cap was Damien placing fifth at Nebraska High School State Championship this year. Jesse will forever be remembered for his sense of humor.

Jesse is survived by his sons, Devin Bell of Monroe and Damien Bell of Bridgeport; his parents, Jim and Patty Bell of Berea; his brother, Joshua Bell of Alliance; his sister, Liberty (Jesse) Robbins of Cheyenne, WY; his niece, Sadie Robbins of Cheyenne, WY; and his nephew, Browning Robbins of Cheyenne, WY. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Bill and Carol Bell and Rocky and Kathy Bell, all of Alliance; and many cousins.

Jesse was welcomed to God's home by his&nbsp; grandparents, Jim and Rose Bell, his step-grandmother, Lenore Bell, his Grandpa, L.H. Kilgroe, his grandmother, Jackie Krieg, aunts, Linda Sanchez and Sherry Sanchez, and his uncles, Jim Kilgroe and Scott Foley.

Cremation has taken place and private family memorial services will be held at a later date.

Sherry Louise (Dufek) Hunter, 65, of Hemingford, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Chadron Community Hospital.

She was born October 16, 1955 in Alliance to Dallas and Donna (Price) Dufek.&nbsp; Sherry graduated from Hemingford High School in 1973, and then went on to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a year.&nbsp; She began work as an executive secretary at Lockwood Corporation and after receiving encouragement from the president of the company, she returned to school to earn her marketing degree at the University of Denver.&nbsp; She graduated with honors after only two and a half years, while also working full time in the finance department of May D &amp; F Department Stores.&nbsp;

Sherry was united in marriage to Don Hunter on September 26, 1981 at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford.&nbsp; Don and Sherry were a true team; where one was, the other was never far away.&nbsp; They were known throughout the area for their successful farming and ranching operation.&nbsp; Sherry worked at Hemingford Public Schools as a substitute teacher and aide for over twenty years.&nbsp; She was every student’s biggest fan, regularly attending sporting events, plays, music programs and the like.&nbsp; She was so very proud of her great nieces, and loved attending their activities including school plays, proms, graduations, weddings, baby showers and everything in between.&nbsp; Sherry was proud of so many things; although she and Don had no children of their own, her relationships with so many children and adults were very important to her.&nbsp; Some of the greatest blessings in her life call her Aunt Sherry!

She is survived by her husband, Don; her mother, Donna Dufek; her niece, Heather (Jon) Hauschild and their children, Carson and Cadence; her aunt, Louise Morava; her cousins, Greg and Sandi Morava and family, and Steve and Susan Morava and family.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Pat Bourne was born to Ruth and Bill Musfelt of Rushville, Nebraska on May 9, 1941.&nbsp; She went to school in Rushville and completed in 1960.&nbsp; She married Maurice Reeves and had 4 children, Ronda, Valerie, Ed, and Wayne.&nbsp; Pat later married Dee Huls and had her daughter Shelly.&nbsp; In 1987 she married Bernard (Pee Wee) Bourne and acquired many stepchildren and grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Pat owned and operated the Fireside Drive inn in Whiteclay, Nebraska for over 14 years and then the Home Café in Rushville for 2 years until she officially retired.&nbsp; Pat was known for being an excellent cook, a supreme bowler, a loving dog owner and having the ability to hold 9 conversations at the same time.&nbsp; She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and donated to many charities including St Judes, Wounded Warrior, Legion Auxiliary and many more.&nbsp; Pat was a member of numerous bowling leagues and would like to be remembered as a fun person to be around.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Pat is preceded in death by her sister Vicki Musfelt, her brother Larry Musfelt, her husband Pee Wee Bourne, and her parents.

All are welcome to attend.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Pat Bourne was born to Ruth and Bill Musfelt of Rushville, Nebraska on May 9, 1941.&nbsp; She went to school in Rushville and completed in 1960.&nbsp; She married Maurice Reeves and had 4 children, Ronda, Valerie, Ed, and Wayne.&nbsp; Pat later married Dee Huls and had her daughter Shelly.&nbsp; In 1987 she married Bernard (Pee Wee) Bourne and acquired many stepchildren and grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Pat owned and operated the Fireside Drive inn in Whiteclay, Nebraska for over 14 years and then the Home Café in Rushville for 2 years until she officially retired.&nbsp; Pat was known for being an excellent cook, a supreme bowler, a loving dog owner and having the ability to hold 9 conversations at the same time.&nbsp; She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and donated to many charities including St Judes, Wounded Warrior, Legion Auxiliary and many more.&nbsp; Pat was a member of numerous bowling leagues and would like to be remembered as a fun person to be around.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Pat is preceded in death by her sister Vicki Musfelt, her brother Larry Musfelt, her husband Pee Wee Bourne, and her parents.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Pat is survived by her children Ronda Reeves-Hillberg and her husband Dan, Valerie Reeves, Ed Reeves and his wife Tonya, Wayne Reeves and his wife Leslie, Shelly Knapp and her husband Dale, her sister Carol Reitz, her Grandchildren Daniel Jr. and Nick Hillberg, DJ, Chris and Andrew Rouse, Bridget Cline, Jordan Andrews, Journey, Lexi and Mya Reeves, Joeseph, Suraiya, Shayla, Brittany, Brandon and Cherish Reeves, Damian and Dillion Holeman, Jasmine Brinkman, Parker, Olivia, Avy, and Bristol Knapp, and numerous great-Grandchildren along with wonderful loving nieces and nephews and her dogs Mandy, Titi and Izzy.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Memorials may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343 The family welcomes donations to St Jude’s as an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers.

Patsy J Bourne (1941 - 2021)

Russell Lynn Anders went to be with his heavenly father in the early morning hours of April 30th, 2021.&nbsp; Russell was born in Hastings, Nebraska to Robert Dean and Patricia Lee Anders (Sultzer).&nbsp; He attended Hastings High school and graduated in 1977.&nbsp; He moved from Hastings to Alliance to work for Burlington Northern as a Material Clerk in 1978.&nbsp; He met the love of his life, Gina Furley, while working for Burlington Northern and they were joined in marriage on June 19, 1982.&nbsp; To this union two children were born, Lacey Lee and Robert Levi.&nbsp; He was also blessed with a son, Greg Brown.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Gina Anders, son Greg (Shana) Brown and their children Jaiden &amp; Tyzen; daughter Lacey (Adam) Herring and their children Bridger &amp; Bristol; and son Levi (Jess) Anders and their children Serenity, Preslee &amp; Remmi.&nbsp; He is also survived by his sister Jody Anders; step-father, Lloyd Wayne Tatro,&nbsp; mother-in-Law Nel Furley; sister-in-Law Deb (Bill) Smith; brother-in-Law Doug Furley; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Larry Snyder, Randy Krebs, and Jean Marchant; as well as other close friends; and by all those he deeply touched. His light was seen, his heart was known, and he touched more people than anyone could ever imagine. Finally, he was also survived by his constant furry companion, Otto.

Russ was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Lee Tatro, father Robert Dean Anders; maternal grandparents Lester and Dorothy Sultzer, paternal grandparents Charles and Matilda Anders and father in law Richard Furley.

Russ will always be remembered as a kind soul who was willing to give endlessly to others through works of service, kind deeds, and for his constant presence of love and comfort.&nbsp; He shared his creative talents of wood working and mechanics with his children and the results of those projects will be a constant reminder of him. Russ left a piece of himself in the hearts of all who were honored to know him; his faith in Christ, his wise words of wisdom, and the deepness of his love are things we will cherish forever. He was such an incredible blessing and the weight of his absence will be felt by many. For now, we will follow his wishes to “just love one another” and hold tight to the Lord’s promise that we will be reunited, for eternity, never to be separated again.

On the afternoon of April 27th, a shining heart soared to heaven and shares her dances with the angels.

She left life surrounded and bathed in the love of her children. Some were physically present or technologically present. Truly all were present in the pure love of their beautiful mother.

Elizabeth Jeanette Curtis (Strobel) was born in York, Nebraska to parents Carl and Anna on September 27, 1940. She was the second born of four children. She shared her childhood with older sister Shirley (Jenkins), younger sister Mary (Rodriguez) and her only brother James. Her sisters and brother remained vitally important to her and her heart was broken with the tragic, too soon loss of her youngest sibling, Jim.

At the core of Elizabeth was her Catholic faith. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff NE. This faith served as her strength and her guidance her whole life. She lived her life as one of the truest examples of Christ. She shared kindness and acceptance with everyone she met. She shared those gifts freely and without judgment as they were bestowed.

Mom, Granny, Aunt Liz and Lizzie were the titles that she carried happiest of all.

As Mom, she gifted the world with her 5 best creations. Tim/Timothy (Betty), Theresa (Larry) Holbert, Pat/Patrick (David), Angie/Angela and Chris/Christopher (Andrea). She would tell you without hesitation that her children were her life. To know her children is to know their mom. They are the embodiment of her kind and caring spirit and they will continue to live and shine her loving heart.

She loved singing and dancing, there was always music on and she loved grabbing her children and having them dance in the kitchen with her!

As Grandma/Granny she celebrated her love of Jeffery, Michael and Sarah and her step grandchildren Shane, Nicole, and Morgan. She delighted in her great grandchildren Cooper, Breleigh and Emma.

She was Aunt Liz to many nieces and Nephews and there was no loss of mutual love and admiration between them all.

There is no real way to calculate the number of friends, acquaintances, and individuals whose lives and hearts she touched as Liz/Lizzie. Her loving reach was constant and bright.

She knew and loved everyone in her apartment building and loved and cared for them like they were her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents, her brother and tragically her grandson Mike.

Doris Jean Hamilton, age 83 of Alliance, Nebraska passed away Wednesday April 21st, 2021 at Skyview Care in Bridgeport Nebraska after battling Alzheimer’s disease.

Doris was born June 23, 1937 in Alliance to Alice and Wayne Weakly of Hyannis.&nbsp; She attended school in Hyannis where she graduated high school in 1954.&nbsp; She then went on to Chadron Normal training where she received her teaching certificate.&nbsp; After receiving her certificate she taught at rural schools south of Gordon, north of Ellsworth, and west of Berea.

Doris married Ken Hamilton on June 28th, 1959 in Alliance.&nbsp; Here they raised four boys, Dale, Kim, Barry and Troy and ran their own appliance repair business.&nbsp; Doris was an active volunteer in the community.&nbsp; She was active for over 50 years local Eagles Auxiliary where she served many roles including Madam President.&nbsp; She started the soup suppers and was very active in the Cancer Card Party.&nbsp; She also served as treasurer for the Panhandle Country Music Association for over 30 years.

In recognition of all her volunteer efforts for the community, she was made an Admiral of The Great Navy of the State of Nebraska in 2008 by then Governor Dave Heineman.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents Alice and Wayne Weakly, son Troy, daughter-in-law Sue Hamilton, brother Bob Weakly, and sister Marge Smith.

Doris is survived by her husband Ken, and her sons Dale of Alliance, Kim of Anoka Minnesota and Barry (Mickey) Hamilton of Aurora Colorado, four grandchildren: Laura Hamilton, Grant Hamilton, Johanna Hamilton and Cassie Hamilton, her brothers: Joe Weakly of Colorado and Gerald Weakly of Wyoming, sister-in-laws: Lois Weakly of Idaho, Judy Kob of Colorado, and Betty Duke of Texas.

A memorial service will be held at Bates-Gould Chapel on Wednesday May 5th, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Settle officiating.

Doris Jean Hamilton (1937 - 2021)

David Leon, 98, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport with his family by his side.

David Leon was born September 16, 1922 to Ysmael and Juanita Leon in Alliance, Nebraska. He attended the public school system with his six brothers and one sister. Growing up during the depression helping his family instilled in David his admiral work ethic. As a young boy he worked a farm in the Bridgeport area for the Walker family. As he grew into his teens, he and his brothers worked the beet fields around the Minatare, Melbeta and Bridgeport area. David said one year they worked enough fields to purchase the house they lived in at 116 Platte in Alliance. At the start of WWII, the Leon brothers; Lewis, Salvador, Ysmael, David, Leonard, Henry, &amp; John enlisted for service. David was one of thirteen survivors of a company of over 500 men. Upon return from the military, David married Josephine Sanchez on August 21, 1946 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance.

David then began working for Andy Irwin. Later, David became a partner in Alliance Floral. When the big retail companies began to sell floral products, David felt it was time to get out of the business. He sold it and went to work at the railroad. He retired from the railroad in the 1980’s; a week after retirement he went to work at the Golf Course. He didn’t work there long because he would have to work on Sundays. Shortly after, David joined Monte Morrison as a maintenance man for the Alliance Public Schools. They enjoyed many hours of work together until David retired yet again. David then became a substitute janitor at the grade schools, which he did into his late 80’s.

David served on the Mexican-American Commission &amp; the United Farmworkers of Nebraska for over 20 years. He assisted the Alliance Housing Authority for 10 years. David was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and Eagles Club.

David is survived by his loving wife, Josephine, his two sons John, Alliance and David (Blanca,) Jacksonville, FL, his grandchildren, Reyna (Justin) Ansley of Hemingford, Anna (Marshall) Eves of Watertown, NY, Cristina Leon of Jacksonville, FL, 5 great-grandchildren Taeller, John and Kymberlee Ansley and Michael and Abigail Eves. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Ysmael and Juanita Leon; six brothers, Lewis, Ysmael, Henry, Salvador, Leonard and John and one sister Henrietta Leon.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Gerald Harr and Father Tim Stoner officiating.&nbsp; Rosary recitation will precede the Mass at 9:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in the Calvary Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Thursday, April 29 at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

David Leon (1922 - 2021)

James E. “Jim” Hines, 71, died Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

He was born November 16, 1949 in Igloo, SD to Herbert D. and Hazel R. (Cullison) Hines.

Jim served in the United States Air Force for a short time before being honorably discharged for medical reasons.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Legion and the Indian Mission-Church of God.

He is survived by his brothers, Henry “Butch” (Linda) Abold of Alliance and Donald Hines of Buena Vista, CO; his sisters, Patricia Butcher of Martin, SD, Nancy (Robert) Harrold of Broken Bow, Sue Drum of Hampton, CT and Carol Bui of Gillette, WY; and many other extended family members.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 2 nephews.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Indian Mission-Church of God.&nbsp; Reverend Don Mink will officiate.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Abold Family Cemetery near Rushville, Nebraska at a later date.

Mary Kuxhausen, age 89, of Mitchell, Nebraska, was called to be with the Lord on April 14, 2021. Visitation will be at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, April 21, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. Services will be held Thursday, April 22, at 2pm at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel, with Reverend Joseph Schumacher presiding. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. A memorial has been established to the family. 

Mary was born in Mitchell, Nebraska, to I.L. and Nora Sayre on December 22, 1931. She grew up in the Mitchell area, graduating from Liberty High School in 1950. After graduation, she worked at Woolworth Co. before going to Oregon for a short period of time. 

She married Norman Kuxhausen on February 17, 1952, at St. James Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She worked at Montgomery Ward for 19 years and then worked at Walmart until 1997, when her husband’s ill health forced her to leave the workforce to stay at home and care for him. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church in Mitchell. 

She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Rick) Erdman of Scottsbluff and Susan West of Mitchell; seven grandchildren, AJ (Kelsey) Kuxhausen, Lacy (Levi) Bernhardt, Travis (Beth) Erdman, Mandie (Chad) McPherson, Nathan (Kari) Kuxhausen, Heather (Percy) Davis, and Sadie Lassiter; twenty great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and sisters: Leta, Elaine, and Patsy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Kuxhausen; son, Norman Kuxhausen Jr.; son-in-law, Randy West; parents; in-laws; brothers: Glen, Ralph, Leo, and Duane; sisters: Cleo, Helen, Maxine, Viola, Veda, Shirley, and twin sister, Martha. Lester Lee Reese was born on May 10, 1940 in Stanton, Nebraska to Eldon Reese and Sophie Jensen. Lester had lived southeast of Gordon with his family in younger years. Lester was the youngest of 6 children. He had 2 sisters: Elvira and Darlene and 4 brothers: Alvin, Gordon, Vern and Lawrence.

Lester had worked different jobs from being a ranch hand on the U Cross to farming. His long-time profession for 37 plus years was driving semi-truck, either locally or over the road.

Lester had married Janet Rhodes and from this union had 4 children: Jennie Reese, Sherry Reese, Scott Reese and William Reese. In 1978 Lester had met Sandy Farmer and then acquired 2 more children by love: Lisa De Boer and Kristie Peterson. Lester was so proud to also have 18 grandchildren and 26 plus great-grandchildren.

Lester always said he was “Chasing the white line and never found the end of it.”

Memorial services will be held Saturday April 24, 2021, 10:30 AM at the Gordon Cemetery.

Lynn L. “Andy” Anderson, 77, passed away Friday, April 16,&nbsp;2021 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, NE.

He was born April 13, 1944 in Stromsburg, Nebraska to LeMoyne and Sylvia Neola (Deay) Anderson. He was raised at Osceola, Nebraska where he graduated from high school in 1962.

Andy served in the U.S. Navy from August 1966 to August 1968. His time included serving on the USS Forrestal.

On September 7, 1974 he was united in marriage to Diana E. Rollo in Chandler, AZ.&nbsp; Thereafter they moved to Gering in 1976 where he was employed by Lockwood Irrigation. He began employment with Burlington Northern Railroad as electrician in 1979. The couple then moved to Alliance in 1981.&nbsp; He retired after 30 years of service in 2009.&nbsp; He was a member of St. John’s United Lutheran Church, American Legion and V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife, Diane of Alliance, his brothers, Mike, Scott (Linda), Bryce (Deb) and Kurt all of Osceola, NE, 6 nieces and 2 nephews. His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s United Lutheran Church in Alliance.&nbsp; Pastor Tim Stadem will officiate.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance.&nbsp; Visitation will be Thursday from 1-6 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Lynn L. “Andy” Anderson (1944 - 2021)

Beverly JoAnn Rusk 1940- 2020 Beverly "Bev" JoAnn Rusk, 79, was surrounded by her family as she went to be with the Lord on September 23, 2020.

Bev was born on November 26, 1940, in Edgemont, South Dakota, to Harold L. and Elsie (Webster) Thompson. Bev was a high school cheerleader and upon graduation she had a scholarship to Black Hill State University where she received her teaching certificate.

Bev married the love of her life, Gayle Rusk, on July 10, 1960, in Alliance, Nebraska. They soon moved to Chadron, NE, where Gayle went to school and played football for Chadron State University. It was there, they welcomes their daughter Sheila. Gayle could not miss the Homecoming game, therefore Bev's physician called Chadron's head coach to pass along to Gayle he was now a father to a baby girl. The game announcer then told the wonderful news at halftime for the entire stadium to hear.

Four years later they would welcome their son, Tom, in Edgemont, SD. Tom completed their family of four. Tom later settled in Arizona and Bev looked forward to spending time with him and his family during the cold Wyoming winters.

After working in California, at a naval weapons station, Bev and Gayle moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Bev worked at the Veterans Administration as a ratings specialist for 35 years, until her retirement. She was compassionate and worked hard in hopes of helping Veterans get the benefits they deserved.

Bev's lasting legacy will always be her loyalty and steadfast love she had for her grandchildren. She was truly their rock and their biggest fan. Year after year she faithfully drove them to and from school, and never missed a soccer game or basketball tournament. She not only helped fund many FFA steer projects, but drove her granddaughters to do their chores every evening. As her four grandchildren in Cheyenne got older, she enjoyed going with them to pick out dresses for formal dances. In some of her later years she loved being a snowbird to Phoenix, AZ, with her girlfriends. She was then able to spend more time with her Arizona grandchildren.

Our fondest memories of Bev will always include her sense of adventure, her love to treat others to dinner, being a die-hard Nebraska Cornhusker, Wyoming Cowboy, and Oakland Raiders fan, and her true love and compassion for any animal that crossed her path. Most of all she taught us the importance of our Faith in God and always being there for family.

Surviving Beverly are her two children; Sheila (Troy) Rininger and Tom (Kim) Rusk, and her grandchildren, Kaley (Matt) Gaskins, Kendall (Josh) Phillippi, Kaitlin (Kenneth) Rosenquist, and Mackenzie Clement, Madison and Max Rusk, Allie and Mike Benn, and Jesse Lopez Rosa. She is survived by four great grandchildren, and her beloved dog, Cooper. Bev is also survived by her sister Norma Jean Keil, brother Darwin Thompson and sisters-in-law, Donna Thompson and Norma Thompson and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Gayle Rusk and two brothers; Bud and Floyd Thompson.

A celebration of Beverly's life will be held Saturday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alliance with Reverend Gideon Achi officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

Beverly JoAnn Rusk (1940 - 2021)

Dan R. Sutton, 74, died Monday, April 12, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Dan was born April 29, 1946 in Oshkosh, NE to Raymond B. and Margaret L. (Kerr) Sutton.&nbsp; He grew up on a sandhills ranch south of Ashby, NE which was homesteaded by his grandparents.&nbsp; He attended country school and Oshkosh grade school through 8th&nbsp;grade, high school at Platte Valley Academy, Shelton, NE and was the first person to receive a personalized degree from Union College, Lincoln, NE where he graduated on December 19, 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Dependency.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

On July 20, 1978, Dan made a decision that would forever change his life and that date became his ‘new birthday’. For the past 42+ years, Dan has remained faithful to that decision and dedicated his life work to helping others make the decision to change their lives. &nbsp;He was always willing to share his personal story to give others hope.

Dan was a good student and even better teacher. He was always searching for something new and innovative, always looking for ways to educate people about addiction and how deadly this disease is. When someone was lost to the disease it deeply affected him and he always felt he could have done more.&nbsp; Through the years Dan has given away countless numbers of books, DVD’s, CD’s, and Bibles; if it touched his heart he would share it. He described himself as a ‘walking commercial’.

Dan loved his children and grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments. He talked to them about inviting Christ into their lives and living a life apart from addiction. &nbsp;Just a few days before his death his grandson asked “Grandpa, can you share some of your wisdom with me?”

In a final act of love for his family he was teaching us how to grieve him in a healthy way and to be loving and forgiving and accepting of all people.

Dan is survived by his wife, Kathy Sutton of Ashby, NE; his children, Gwen Ensrud of Scottsbluff, NE, Corey (Debbie) Sutton of Melbeta, NE, Raye Sutton of Minatare, NE, and Dustin Sutton of Melbeta, NE; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He is also survived by his brother, Larry (Sandra) Sutton of Florence, CO; his sisters, Genelle Holder of Springdale, WA, Kay Sutton of Lincoln, NE, and Pam (Rick) Bell of Murdock, NE.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Alliance.&nbsp; Pastor Jim Settle will officiate.

Barbara Ann Arnakin, 76, passed away at Skyview at Bridgeport, NE on Monday, April 12, 2021.

She was born on January 3, 1945 in Alliance to Charles Samuel and Corrine (Lone Wolf) Youkin.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Rose and Arthur Woods of Eagle Butte, SD, her grandsons, Manuel Rosales and Antonio Rosales and her great-grandchildren, Savannah, Janessa and Lukas Rosales.&nbsp; She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Nussbaum of Alliance and her brothers, Timothy John Barnes of Alliance and Felix Youman of Central City, NE.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Timothy Barnes, Sr. and her brother, Percy Youman.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the Indian Mission Church of God. Cremation will follow the service with burial in the Alliance Cemetery at a later date. A wake service will be Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Barbara Ann Arnakin (1945 - 2021)

On April 14, 2020, Karen Brown, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 63 from a battle with metastatic breast cancer.

Karen was born on February 9, 1957 in Valley City, ND to Leonard and Marilynn Everson. She graduated from Clay Center High School in 1975. On April 2, 1977 she married Ricky Lynn Brown and soon moved to Riverton, WY where they raised a daughter, Jessica Mintken and a son, Adam Brown. While in Riverton, she worked at Brunton Company, Bear Paw embroidery, and High Mountain Seasonings. Later, she moved to Torrington, WY to be closer to what gave her the greatest joy, her grandsons. While living there, she was a manager at City Slickers RV Park.

Karen enjoyed rock hunting in the mountains and camping with her family. She was known for finding many treasures. You could also often find her quilting. She took pleasure in sewing quilts for her family and friends. She was known for bringing happiness and comfort to others. She had a deep sense of pride in being a regular blood donor.

Karen was preceded in death by her son, Adam Brown; her parents, Leonard and Marilynn Everson; her brothers, Tony (Renee), Joe Everson; and her niece, Kayla Drudik. She is survived by her husband, Ricky Brown; Daughter, Jessica (Buck) Mintken; her grandson, Gage and Easton Mintken; her sisters, Jean (Allan) Swenson and Mary Drudik; and many nieces and nephews.

 </figure>On April 14, 2020, Karen Brown, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 63 from a battle with metastatic breast cancer.Karen was born on February 9, 1957 in Valley City, ND to Leonard and Marilynn Everson. She graduated from Clay Center High School in 1975. On April 2, 1977 she married Ricky Lynn Brown and soon moved to Riverton, WY where they raised a daughter, Jessica Mintken and a son, Adam Brown. While in Riverton, she worked at Brunton Company, Bear Paw embroidery, and High Mountain Seasonings. Later, she moved to Torrington, WY to be closer to what gave her the greatest joy, her grandsons. While living there, she was a manager at City Slickers RV Park.Karen enjoyed rock hunting in the mountains and camping with her family. She was known for finding many treasures. You could also often find her quilting. She took pleasure in sewing quilts for her family and friends. She was known for bringing happiness and comfort to others. Terri was born July 31, 1979 in Chadron, Nebraska to Fred Rawles and Debra Rawles Tiensvold. Terri was a 1998 Graduate from Alliance High School in Alliance, Nebraska. Terri Graduated with her Bachelors Degree in Nursing at The University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2007. Terri worked as a Registered Nurse in the NICU at North Mississippi Medical center in Tupelo, MS. It was a gift from God to know Terri. She was a wife, sister, daughter and Mother and above all, a Christian woman who put her faith and God first. She loved life to the fullest. She loved being a mommy and her kids were her world. She enjoyed camping with her family and making s’mores by the campfire. She loved decorating for holidays and events at her church and home. She loved vacationing and spending quality time with her family. She was an exceptional singer and entertained us all on road trips.&nbsp; We all loved her so much and she will be greatly missed

Gilbert L. Sullivan, 74, passed away at his home on Monday, April 5, 2021 surrounded by his family.

He was born November 11, 1946 in Hanover, PA to Gilbert L., Sr. and Ruth (Ambrosius) Sullivan.

Gil joined the United States Navy in 1964 and served his country until 1970.&nbsp; He married Donna Jones and to this union, three children were born, Shannon, Amy and Lannie.&nbsp; Gil worked on the Rock Island Railroad before moving to Nebraska to work on the Burlington Northern Railroad.&nbsp; On August 28, 1987, he married Marcia M. McCune, making their home in Hemingford.

Gil never met a stranger because of his big heart and would do anything for his friends and family.&nbsp; His final gift was donating his body to science so that he could continue to help others after he was gone.

Gil is survived by his wife, Marcia; his children, Shannon Sullivan, Amy (Mike) Miller, Lannie (Jamie) Sullivan, Heather (Fred) Ash and Nathan (Hidie) McCune; grandchildren, Nathaniel Sullivan, Damian, Chandler, Reese and Ashten Miller, Lawson and Lydia Sullivan, Trevor (Brittany) Benge, Tanner (Ashley) Benge, Kamryn Ash and Madison and Gabe Bland; great-grandchildren, Quinton Benge and Asher Randolph.&nbsp; He is also survived by his brother, George (Nita) Sullivan; his sisters, Norma (Chuck) Womack and Lois Jean Simmons; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Jim Simmons, and his granddaughter, Emma McCune.

As per Gil’s wishes, no services will be held.&nbsp; There will be a family memorial service held at a later date.
