Monte G. Morrison, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Box Butte General Hospital surrounded by his family.

Monte was born December 18, 1941 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska to Paul Andrew and Ruth Augusta (Vogel) Morrison.

He was raised on a farm northwest of Alliance.&nbsp; He attended country school and graduated from Alliance High School in 1959.&nbsp; Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.&nbsp; Monte proudly served in Japan, the Philippines, Hawaii and aboard the USS Lexington until he was honorably discharged in February of 1964.

On December 18, 1966 Monte married the love of his life, Linda Regene Butler in Merna, Nebraska.&nbsp; To this union three children were born, Jodi, Jeff and Jeremy.

Monte was employed with Northwestern Bell and then became a police officer while living in Gordon.&nbsp; When an opening became available, he transferred back to his home town of Alliance, where he and Linda continued to raise their children.&nbsp; He eventually took a job with the Alliance Public Schools and found his true calling.&nbsp; Whether driving the bus to many activities, painting the football field or coaching Babe Ruth Baseball, he loved those kids!

Monte was baptized as an infant in the Immanuel Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Later in life he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized by immersion in the Alliance Berean Church, where he served as an elder for many years.&nbsp; Here he met an extended family that he held very dear.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Morrison of Alliance; his daughter, Jodi (Joe) Ringbauer of Alliance and their son Ryan; his son, Jeff (Kris) Morrison of Firth, Nebraska and their children, Grant, Haley, Avery and Allie; his son, Jeremy (Coleen) Morrison of Alliance and their children, Whitney (Matthew) Pinneo, Madisen, Derek, Seth and Jersey; and two great-grandchildren, Tinlee and Kaysen Pinneo.&nbsp; He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marcia Morrison of Sidney; his brother, Dan (Wanda) Morrison of Alliance; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friends, Amber (Forrest) Benge of Alliance.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry Morrison, nephew Andrew Morrison, brother-in-law Curtis Scotton and his sister-in-law, Eulalia Scotton.&nbsp; Monte never met a stranger and cherished all of you!!

A celebration of Monte’s life will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Alliance Berean Church.&nbsp; Pastor Glenn Johnson will officiate.&nbsp; Burial with military rites will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance.&nbsp; Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.

Monte G. Morrison (1941 - 2021)

Arnold Dean Harris was born November 9, 1941 in Chappell, Nebraska to Donald and Inez (Kling) Harris.&nbsp; He passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021 at his home in Alliance.

Dean graduated from Alliance High School in 1960.&nbsp; He enlisted in the U.S. Navy January 25, 1962 and served as a sonarman. He was honorably discharged May 24, 1966.&nbsp;

He married Carolyn Behm on March 11, 1974.&nbsp; Dean enjoyed keeping a very well-manicured lawn and a bountiful garden that he shared with his family and friends.&nbsp; He especially loved taking his granddaughters on fishing excursions.

Dean is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his daughter and her husband, Chelsea and J.J. Simmons of Alliance and his granddaughters, Macey and Myleigh Simmons.&nbsp; He is also survived by his in-laws, Cheryl Harris, Dennis Behm, Dick and Pat Behm and Kenny and Marilyn Behm along with numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents, and his brothers, Jack, Max, Boyd and Todd Harris preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be Friday, November 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Alliance.&nbsp; Interment with military honors will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance.

Memorials may be given to Shriner’s Hospital, the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mary “Kathy” Loseke, age 57, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at her home in Hudson, Colorado. She was born September 30, 1964 in Alliance, NE to Dale and Helen (Heins) Vickers. She married Steven Loseke on February 13, 1988 in Deshler, NE.

Kathy had a love for life, whether it was playing volleyball, working on the family farm or spending time with her friends and family. She fought a courageous battle with cancer and will be remembered by her big heart and beautiful smile.

She is survived by her husband, Steve, her son, Brandon Michael Dexter of Nashville, TN, her daughter, Brittney Nicole (Jay) Potter of Valparaiso, NE and her grandchildren, Clayton and Kellan Dexter. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents Dale and Helen, brothers, Gary, Larry and Jerry.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, November 18th at the Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance, NE. Followed by burial at Hemingford Cemetery.

She also worked for K-Mart and Walmart and then as a Dispatcher for Scotts Bluff County until her disability forced her retirement. She later became a receptionist for the Child Development Center in the last few years. Rose has a passion for playing Poker and was nicknamed “Poker Rose”. She loved to travel, camp and fish. Her greatest joy was her family and grandchildren. Rose was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Scottsbluff. John Henry Bentley, passed away peacefully at the Morrill County Hospital at the age of 97 years young. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist church on November 15 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Ray Cook officiating. Burial will be at the Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery following the service. Friends and family are invited to join the family at the First Baptist church for lunch following the services. Casual attire is requested.

John was born February 1, 1924 at Broadwater, Nebraska to Albert and Gladys (Jackson) Bentley, one of 13 children. He farmed with his father in the Broadwater area for a few years. On Feb. 27, 1945 Leona Friend married John H. Bentley, the love of his life and best friend at the First Baptist church in Bridgeport. A union that lasted 71+ years.

The couple farmed and ranched throughout Morrill County. John worked as a mechanic for Woznick John Deere as well as delivery driver for NTC. He served as the maintenance man for the Scotts Bluff and Bridgeport Housing Authorities for 20+ years.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He loved spending time with his grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great granddaughter. He enjoyed life, boating, camping, gambling trips with his Leona and family. He made many memories baking their “Special“ Christmas cookies and candy, churning homemade ice cream, having Sunday family dinners and helping organize the huge Bentley family picnics. John was active in the First Baptist church, serving as an elder and deacon. He pulled many a Baptist youth at the Bridgeport Lake for their water-skiing youth group activities. John lived a Christian life by example he was a quiet, gentle soul, committed man of faith who had the patience of a saint. He and Leona are waltzing across heaven with family and friends. He was a special man, we’ miss him dearly!

John is survived by his sons, Dick (Nancy) Bentley, Gering and Rick Bentley, Gering, 5 grandchildren Nichole (Brett) Schnieder, Coppell, Texas; Jon (Teresa) Bentley, Scottsbluff; Robert (Mandie) Bentley, Mitchell; Cara (Eric) Breazeale, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Becky (Abe) Adams, Scottsbluff; 16 great-grandchildren: Trenton, Tandon, Ashley (Brett), Jaylan, Liam, Cooper, Cash, Cody, Trinity, Mitchell (Alma), Zac, Brayden, Jackson, Kaylee, Natalee and Emilee. Great-great granddaughter Ella Grace, Sister-in-laws: Elva Wylie, Everett, Washington; Reatha Bentley, Bridgeport; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leona, parents, brothers Junior, Myrl, Ned, Darrell, Ronald, Marvin. Dean and Gene; and sisters Wilma Waggerby, Ruby Watson, Dorothy Watson, Hilda Widener, and Addie Berry.

John left us beautiful memories. His love is still our guide. And although we cannot see him, he’s always at our side.

John Henry Bentley (1924 - 2021)

Donald Wayne Knigge, 66, lost the battle against cancer Oct.18, 2021 in Bridgeport, Nebraska in the company of his mother and wife. A Celebration of Life for Donald will be held at Bridgeport Community Church (1505 Q Street Bridgeport, NE) from 1:00 P.M. -3:00 P.M. on Thursday November 11, 2021. Donald (Donnie, Junior, Cowboy) was born July 15,1955 in Newcastle, WY. to Wayne and Alyce (Eatherton) Knigge.

He is survived by his mother, Alyce Knigge, wife Regina, daughter Chrystal Knigge, Step-sons Everett (Jennee) Rhodes, Paul Rhodes and Rich Kistler, Step-daughter Rose(Matthew) Schafer, Grandson Quinton Johnson, Step-grandchildren Anders, Theodore and Samuel, Sister; LaDonna Burke, Jodie Sprague, and Julie Schreibeis, brother Jay (Missy) Knigge, Four nieces, four nephews and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, C. Wayne Knigge and multiple aunts and uncles.

Marvin Burdette Nielson was born September 29, 1944, in Gordon, Nebraska to John and Opal (Ostrander), the oldest of four children. Marvin was a graduate of Gordon High School in 1963. After graduation, Marvin worked for Floyd Downing with his good friends Burr, Boyd (Puz) and Dean Jameson.

In September 1965 Marvin enlisted into the 8th infantry division with the United States Army where he was primarily stationed at Baumholder, Germany. He returned to U.S. soil on August 24, 1967, at which time he entered the Army Reserves until 1971. After returning home he received an education from Southeast Community College in Milford, NE with an Associate Degree in Diesel Mechanics, graduating in 1969. While getting his degree in Milford, he met the love of his life, Katherine Jensen.

Marvin and Kathy were married January 31, 1970, in front of their friends and family at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cordova, Nebraska. This union provided them with two children, John LeMoyne born June 17, 1972, and Karen Debra born April 20, 1977.

After marriage, Marvin worked on various ranches in his beloved sandhills until he and Kathy decided to settle down on a small acreage in Whitney. After leaving the ranch life, Marvin began working at Henkins Equipment in Chadron for Jim and Marsha Mapes. He worked there until his retirement in 2016 when Kathy had her stroke to help take care of her.

Marvin is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Karen (Bryan) Clines of Bar Nunn, WY; daughter-in-law Amy of Alliance; grandson Caleb of Alliance; step-granddaughter Danielle Clines of Bon Aqua, TN; brothers Jonathan (Trenda) and Malcolm (Cindy) both of Ellsworth; sister Rowena (Dennis) Beck of Greenville, IN and several nieces and nephews.

Marvin is preceded in death by son John, nephew Steve, parents John and Opal, father and mother-in-law Willard and Anne Jensen and sisters-in-law Cheryl Graff and Linda Vardell.

Funeral Services will be held Friday November 12, 2021, 9:00 am at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home in Gordon. Burial will be held at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Alliance at 11:00 am.

Yvonne Gladys Grant, age 85, of Whitney, Nebraska passed away on November 4th, 2021. Born on October 26, 1936, in Wayside, NE to Wesley Sr and Gladys Tlustos. Yvonne attended Thomsen Rural School until 8th grade when she began school in Chadron. She graduated from Chadron Prep in 1954 and then went on to attend the National School of Business in Rapid City, SD. After graduating, Yvonne was employed by a law firm in Rapid City for three years before she quit to marry Robert.

On September 6th, 1958, Yvonne married her high school sweetheart, Robert Dean Grant, at the Methodist Church in Chadron, Nebraska. They were married for 63 years. Robert and Yvonne bought their first home in Whitney, Nebraska where they resided for nine years and had their first two children, Levi Scott Grant, and Bryan Lynn Grant. Yvonne stayed home for 10 years with the boys until they started school. In January of 1967, they bought their forever ranch and moved two and a half miles north of Whitney with his five head of cattle and some sheep, later adding pigs. This is where the couple had their daughter Jodi Lee Grant (Reitz) and raised their family. Yvonne worked at Crites and Shaffer Law and Slavik Law in Chadron for 31 years. During this time, she also was secretary for the Whitney School District and a 4-H Club Leader. When her boss retired in 1999, Yvonne went on to work summers at Fort Robinson State Park in Crawford, NE for 4 years before retiring herself.

Yvonne loved her life of ranching with her husband. One of her favorite things was checking cattle. The ranch was a busy life with Angus cattle, pigs, sheep, many acres of hay fields, and of course, gardening. Many hours were spent in her and Robert’s vegetable garden. Each family meal was a celebration for Yvonne. She always liked to serve meals in her nicest dinnerware and a sweet dessert was always served. After the cattle were moved to spring pastures each year, Robert and Yvonne would enjoy a vacation traveling around the western part of the United States. During their free time the couple enjoyed card parties with their friends and many camping trips.

Yvonne Gladys Grant (1936 - 2021)

Donald D. Moore, 83, of Martin, South Dakota, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021, at Countryside Care in Gordon, Nebraska.

He was born November 11, 1937, in Martin, SD, to Virgil Moore and Ormetta&nbsp; (Hunt) Billeter.

Don graduated from Bennett County High School, Martin, SD, in 1956. Don married Reita (Willis) on November 12, 1960, and they had two daughters, Sandra Moore of Granby, Colorado, and LaLoni (Bill) Livermont of Martin, SD. He had four grandchildren: Eric Modlin, Timnath, Colorado, Sarahjane Modlin, Kearney, Nebraska, Skyler Livermont, Martin, SD, Seth Livermont (Rachael McCoy) Martin, SD, and Edwin Neigel, Martin SD. There are eight great-grandchildren.

Don spent all of his life in Martin, except for his Army service in Germany. He was enlisted from 1956-1959 and earned an Honorable Discharge.

Don worked many jobs in and around the Martin area. There are too many jobs to list, but his favorites were as a mechanic at Coon’s Chevrolet, manager Merriman Grain Elevator, and assistant manager at Ace Hardware. He began his truck driving career at Mueller Feeds and bought his first truck, a White-Freightliner, in 1971 working for Burnell Wheeler.

He was a member of Pheasants Forever, Wild Turkey Federation, NRA, Cody NE Legionnaires, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and Knights of Columbus. He served his community by being a Bennett County Sheriff Reserve Officer and Martin Town Council member.

His passion for muscle cars, hunting, and fishing were passed on to his girls and grandchildren. He was very much a family man and spent as much time as possible teaching them to be kind and honest.

Survivors include his daughters, grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Ormetta, brother Virgil, sisters Shirley (Tech), and Norma (Allard).

Services will be Saturday, November 13, at 11:00 at the new American Legion, officiated by Bill Hines. Military services and Inurnment will be at Martin Cemetery by American Legion Post #240. All friends and family will be honorary pallbearers. Lunch will follow for all friends and family at the American Legion.

Randolph D. “Randy” Honstein, age 71, of Crawford, Nebraska passed away October 29, 2021, at The Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado following heart surgery.

Randy was born August 17, 1950 to Harry and Helen Drieth Honstein in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He attended Victory Hill School &amp; Scottsbluff High School. His family then moved to Dunlap, Ne and he continued his education at Hemingford High School.

In June of 1970, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country in the 523rd Transportation Unit in Vietnam as a Truck Driver and Gunner. He was Honorably Discharged from the 416th Transportation Company in Ft. Rucker, Alabama in 1976. Randy was thrilled to go on the Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2015 and receive a Quilt of Valor in 2019.

Randy married Nancy White in 1974. To this union, 2 sons, Matthew and Michael were born. They were later divorced.

He was wed to the love of his life, Shawna Piper on July 15, 2006. They were blessed to spend the last 15 years together!

Randy worked briefly for BNSF. He enjoyed his life as a truck driver. He drove for Bauer Redi-Mix and Rudy “Butch” Stanko. He leased on with AmeriCo Carriers and was later an independent driver. Randy was proud to have over 3 million Accident-Free Miles and was awarded Driver of the Month numerous times. His wife, Shawna, went over the road with him from 2006 to 2009. Due to health issues, he sold his truck and retired from Trucking in 2009. They later started a bait business at their home, selling minnows and swapping fishing stories.

Randy loved to visit with anyone he met. He enjoyed telling jokes and his many life stories! He also loved to cook and watch cooking shows on TV, sharing recipe ideas and cooking tips with friends. He enjoyed football and cheering for the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers.&nbsp;

Brandi, their Cocker Spaniel, was a light in his life! (He was only Randy’s dog if Shawna was out of the house!) She went everywhere with them, even fishing in the boat on Whitney Lake. And Randy LOVED to fish!

Randy is survived by his wife, Shawna and his dog, Brandi of Crawford, NE, Mother Helen Honstein of Hay Springs, NE, sons, Matthew (Amy) Honstein and Mike (Mary) Honstein of Hemingford, grandchildren Braden, Lucas, Makenna, and Ava, brother, Dennis of Cheyenne, WY and nephew, Donni Cler of Hemingford. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mardell Piper, sisters-in-law Vicky (Mike) Moreno and Shelly Piper and brother-in-law Terry (Kim) Piper. Also survived by his Uncle Frank (Karen) Lyman of Crestview, CA, Uncle Floyd (Ruth) Honstein of Cheyenne, WY, Uncle Harold (Irene) Drieth of Eureka, CA, Cousin Jim Wacker of Hemingford, and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins, and friends.

Preceding Randy in death are his father, Harry Honstein, brother Steve and sister-in-law Tarri Honstein, and Uncle Elmer Eberhart.

A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Christ Community Church in Crawford, NE. Burial will follow at the Alliance Veterans Cemetery in Alliance, NE.

Robert E. Schefcik, Sr., 51, died Friday, November 5, 2021 at Box Butte General Hospital.

Robert was born December 9, 1969 in Omaha, Nebraska to Ronald E. and Olevia M. (Eversull) Schefcik.

He married Nina Bartrow on May 14, 1993 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Robert was an over the road truck driver for Kelley Services.&nbsp; He enjoyed his work and drove for over 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Nina Schefcik of Alliance; his children, Charlene (Bo) Walters of Alliance, Robert Jr. (Nicole) Schefcik of Alliance, Brandi (Tyler) Wright of Lincoln and Ashley Schefcik of Scottsbluff.&nbsp; He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; his sisters, Yvonne (Ron) Covert of Hot Springs, SD, and Eunice (Anthony) Borill of Crowley, LA; his brother, Travis Schefcik of Pensacola, FL; and many other extended family members.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.

Santos was born April 28, 1968 at Cadereyta Jimenez Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Santos Garza Escamilla and Regina Vela Valdez. He received his education in Mexico.

Santos was united in marriage to Bridgett Timmons on November 18, 2019. The couple made their home in Bayard.

Santos owned and operated his own trucking company – Santos and Son Trucking - along with his son “Sonny.” He loved spending time with his grandkids. He enjoyed airplanes, going to the lake, working on cars and trucks, driving his motorcycle, eating Chinese food, and collecting die cast metal cars and airplanes (especially the Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am). He was a Ford guy who would argue that point with anyone, especially a Dodge fan.

Michelle Lynn Fritz, 46, departed this life Wednesday, October 27th. She passed unexpectedly, but peacefully in her sleep in the company of her loving husband Joseph Fritz and children Tucker Fritz and Gracie Fritz of Westminster, CO. Friends and family are invited to attend Michelle's Celebration of Life service on Sunday, Nov 7th, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center, 908 Yellowstone Avenue in Alliance. Michelle was born in 1975 in Alliance, NE. She was the first born to her parents James and Twila Conley. Michelle was born with Spinabifida which is a condition that causes the spinal cord not to develop fully in the womb. This also caused paralysis of her legs. Michelle underwent many surgeries in her young life to help straighten the severe curvature of her spine. Her care was provided by Shriners Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. All of Shriners services were provided for free to Michelle's family and she received loving and attentive care during her many long stays at their hospital. Michelle's diagnosis and treatments never slowed her down though, and she grew into a highly capable, fiercely independent, incredibly beautiful, and intelligent woman. During high school she worked at Highland Park Nursing Home as a weekend receptionist and as a disc jockey at KCOW. Michelle graduated from Alliance High School in 1993. She went on to attend Chadron State College where she received her Bachelor's in accounting and business management. During college she worked as a secretary for a local church. Michelle worked and lived in Alliance for a few years after college as a legal assistant for attorney Leo Dobrovolny as well as in marketing at Box Butte General Hospital.&nbsp; Michelle loved her hometown, but her heart was in the city, and she moved to Fort Collins in 2000 and later Denver.&nbsp;While in Denver, Michelle was introduced to the love of her life, Joseph Fritz. In 2007 they were married and had their son Tucker Fritz followed three years later by their daughter Gracie Fritz.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Michelle's favorite hobby was reading and had a book collection to rival any library. She liked living in Denver for the amenities, but she was especially drawn to the majestic mountain views. Michelle and her family enjoyed experiencing nature and taking trips to Gardens of the Gods and Colorado Springs. She visited Nebraska regularly to spend time with her family and let them love and spoil her children. She enjoyed date nights out with her husband to their favorite restaurant&nbsp;3 Margaritas&nbsp;and loved watching the 4th&nbsp;of July pyrotechnic displays he helped put on for cities around Denver. Michelle was incredibly meticulous, which her very disorganized family gave her heck about constantly. She was habitually late but came by it naturally as a strong family trait. Her favorite thing in this world was being a mother to two beautiful children, whom she raised to be thoughtful, smart, responsible, sweet, and like their mother, just a little sassy.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She will be remembered and honored by her loving husband Joseph Fritz, son Tucker Fritz and daughter Gracie Fritz. Michelle will also be dearly missed by her parents Jim and Twila Conley, her brother Cody (Beretta) Conley, sister Kyren (Chris) Gibson, and her nephews Dylan and Jaxon Conley. Mark William Gresens of Alliance, NE, age 60, went home to be with the Lord Friday October 22, 2021 in the presence of his wife Mary and nephew Archie Shipp at CHI Health Nebraska Heart in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Mark was born in Rochester, New York February 13, 1961, to his parents Roy and Pauline (Curry) Gresens. Mark was the youngest of five siblings. In 1966, the Gresens family moved to Hemingford, Nebraska. Mark went to school at Hemingford schools and graduated in 1979. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and was an Aircraft Electrician. He served for ten years in Texas, Almandorf, Alaska and South Korea leaving with the rank of Sgt. Mark had a life-long love of Alaska and dreamed of returning there someday where he could enjoy the wildlife, especially eagles and wolves.

Mark felt the calling to be a pastor and attended Mid-America Bible College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for two years. Mark returned to Alliance and worked at Hardees where he met and worked with his wife, Mary Christine Requejo. Mark and Mary married August 21, 1999 at the Evangelical Free Church in Alliance.

Mark and Mary returned to Mid-America Bible College in 2000 to continue their studies for another year. They returned to Scottsbluff where Mark worked at the Veterans Home as a cook. They moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, to help Mark's sister, Linda, following the death of her husband. In 2010, Mark and Mary returned to Alliance and lived in the Panhandle ever since.

Mark is survived by his wife Mary (Requejo) Gresens, his sister Victoria Gresens, and brother Rodger and sister-in-law Carmen Gresens. Mark is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Archie Shipp and his wife Tammy, and his kitties Cheeto and PeeWee.

Mark is predeceased by his parents, Roy and Pauline (Curry) Gresens r sister Linda (Gresens) Hammond, sister Karen Gresens, and mother-in law Ramona Requejo.

Mark's Celebration of Life service will be November 5th at 1:00 pm at the Evangelical Free Church, 611 Cody Ave, Alliance. Burial with military honors and at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery east of Alliance. There will be a reception at the Evangelical Free Church afterward.

Memorial funds will be used for funeral expenses.

Mark William Gresens (1961 - 2021)

Marshall Wilson Garner, 66, died Monday, October 25, 2021 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

He was born December 7, 1954 in Rushville, Nebraska to Marshall Curtis and Edna Mae (Evans) Garner.

He spent his childhood learning everything he could from his father and grandfather on how to cowboy and was always looking for a prank to pull. His early grade school years were in Gordon, Nebraska where he earned his Eagle Scout. His family moved to a ranch and he attended the rest of his school years in Hyannis. He loved to wrestle and worked with the federation wrestlers.

He completed basic training for the Army and was honorably discharged in 1974. He then joined Burlington Northern Railroad, working until he was disabled on the job in 2004 and he retired in 2007. He was a proud patch member of the Road Motorcycle Club, earned the name Wildman and was devoted to being part of the brotherhood for 37 years. He was joined in marriage to Mari on November 1, 1985 in Hyannis.&nbsp; He was a volunteer firefighter and spent many years as fire chief until he suffered several strokes. After a miraculous recovery, he helped form a stroke survivor’s support group. Marshall became Cowboy Santa and found great joy bringing smiles to many faces. He helped form Cowboy fast draw Outlaws and Angels. He had recently been very proud to be enrolled with the Yankton Sioux Tribe.

He had a heart bigger than the state of Nebraska, a dear friend once said. He loved life, and had a philosophy to live life to the fullest. He loved his family and many friends, he was a great story teller, and will be missed greatly as he was a one of a kind man. You will forever be with us in our hearts, ride free Marshall!

Marshall is survived by his wife, Mari Garner of Hyannis; his children, Joshua (Angela) Garner of Torrington, WY, Jarvis Garner (Julie Thompson) of Gering, Maisie (Joshua) Petering of Alliance, and Marli (David) Anderson of Glenwood, IA; his siblings, Curtis (Colleen) Garner of Hemingford, Roxie (James) Evans of Bingham, Ginger Correll of Broken Bow, Robin Butrick (Dennis Thompson) of Lemoyne, and Ted Garner of Paxton; 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and many other loved ones.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hyannis Congregational Church.&nbsp; Mr. Richard Ogren will officiate.&nbsp; Burial with military rites will be held in the Hyannis Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be at the Bates-Gould Chapel on Monday, November 1, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Jan Kirby (1944 - 2021)

Michael Niels Rask of Gordon NE, proud&nbsp;American and veteran of the Marines, passed&nbsp;away October 23, 2021 at the age of 75,&nbsp;surrounded by his children.

The son of Ray and Leona Rask, he was&nbsp;born June 9, 1946, and grew up in Minatare&nbsp;and Scottsbluff Nebraska, graduating from&nbsp;Scottsbluff High School in 1964.

At the age of 19, he was drafted during the Vietnam War. Mike&nbsp;proudly served his country from 1966-1972 and received two Purple&nbsp;Hearts for wounds suffered in combat, and the Vietnam Cross of&nbsp;Gallantry in recognition of heroic conduct while in combat with the&nbsp;enemy. He valued his service highly and was honorably discharged&nbsp;at the rank of Staff Sergeant. A true patriot, he then continued to&nbsp;serve his country in the Army National Guard for many years.

A lifelong baseball fanatic, Mike loved his precious Cubbies,&nbsp;animals great and small, spending time with his loved ones, coaching,&nbsp;bowling, dispensing pearls of wisdom, encouraging his kids to read&nbsp;and educate themselves, puttering around, and he REALLY loved&nbsp;butterballs. He found retirement to be a blast because he could sleep&nbsp;in and do whatever he wanted, which included growing a beard that&nbsp;was longer than most newborn babies and becoming obsessed with&nbsp;

He wore many hats in life, soldier, welder, postman and banker&nbsp;just to name a few. He loved being “Papa Mike” to big and little kids&nbsp;alike, and his love of others was authentic and infectious. Through&nbsp;the last few years of health struggles he kept his sense of humor,&nbsp;even demanding during a hospitalization that the nurse write on his&nbsp;patient board “click the heels of the red shoes 3 times” which she&nbsp;did. It must have worked because he went home 2 days later. He was&nbsp;one of the good guys and will be missed.&nbsp;

Mike is survived by his siblings, Marvin Rask of New Underwood&nbsp;South Dakota, Ronda Leedham of Louisburg Kansas, and brother-in-law Doug McCune of Alliance Nebraska. His children, Matthew&nbsp;Rask of Mesa, Arizona, Clayton (Allison) Rask of Hot Springs,&nbsp;South Dakota, Jesse Rask of Gordon Nebraska, Tina (Phil) Pryor&nbsp;of Crawford Nebraska, and Kimberley (Jeremy) Wells of Gering&nbsp;Nebraska. His grandchildren Laura, Kael, Nathan and Kairi, a host&nbsp;of nieces and nephews, his girlfriend Diane Ehlers, and his many&nbsp;beloved Rask cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents,&nbsp;infant son Daniel Joseph, and his sister Vickie McCune.

Mike didn’t want a funeral or anyone fussing about him, so we’ll&nbsp;do what he loved, we’ll eat, visit, share memories and tell stories&nbsp;on Saturday October 30, 2021 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Gordon&nbsp;American Legion, Gordon Nebraska.

Marvin D. Roth was given life by his creator and was born July 8, 1934, in Batesland, SD. He is the oldest child of Levi and Edna Roth. June 8, 1958, Marvin publically confessed his faith, was confirmed and baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Marv entered Army active-duty March 19, 1954. After serving in Korea and completing his service in the Army Reserve he was honorably discharged February 28, 1962.&nbsp;

On November 4, 1956, he married his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Marlys Suhr. Marv was blessed with the gift of three children: Adele (Kenny) Shepardson, Jill (Randy) Langemeier and Troy (Jackie) Roth. He was also blessed with 9 grandchildren: Kevin Shepardson, Chad Shepardson, Travis (Kayla) Shepardson, Shelly (Shawn) Eisenreich, Stacy (John) Girard, Scott (Mani) Langemeier, Mitch (April) Roth, Eric (Sharla) Roth, Ashley (Evan) Bartels and 20 great grandchildren complete his loving family. Siblings Dick (Wanda) Roth, Janice Flueckinger, brother-in-law Lyle Suhr, sister-in-law Neva (Dean) Bruce and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marv was an active member of his church for over 60 years. He loved the land and successfully operated the Roth Farm with Marlys, Troy, Adele and Jill helping. In his retirement years he enjoyed helping third and fourth generation Roth farmers Troy and Jackie and Eric and Sharla. Marv served on the LaCreek Electric and Farmer’s Co-op Board of Directors for many years.

Marv was very competitive and enjoyed golf, bowling, and playing cards with friends, hunting and fishing with his family were also things he loved. Marv and Marlys enjoyed traveling to their children and grandchildren’s activities. Family was very important to Marv.

October 24, 2021, Marv went to his eternal home in the arms of Christ. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2021, 10:00 AM, at the Grace Lutheran Church, Gordon, Nebraska. Burial will be in the Gordon Cemetery. She attended school in Gordon, Nebraska, and graduated from McHenry Illinois in 1966.&nbsp; On March 8, 1969, Pat married Thomas Bermingham. To this union, three children were born – Kimberly Jo, Sean Francis and Kori Lynn. Pat worked various jobs while her children were young until she began working for the United States Postal Service. She retired as the Merriman Postmaster in 2006. After her retirement, she purchased the home her grandfather had built in Gordon and remained there until her health deteriorated. She then moved to Farmer’s Branch, Texas to live with her daughter Kori and Kori’s husband Kyle. Kori and Kyle cared for her in their home until the last weeks of her life, when they brought her home to Gordon and the Sandhills that she loved. Pat was blessed with many dear friends and during the last days of her life she was able to spend time with Jim and Cleta Weisbeck, Merna Ganshert and Linda Holt. Nancy Short, another dear friend, was unable to come to Gordon, but was able to offer Pat words of comfort in her last days.

Pat was known for her deep love for her children and grandchildren. She would spend countless hours looking for the perfect birthday or Christmas gift for them. She loved to travel, and it brought her great joy to plan trips to visit her grandchildren.

Patricia Lee Harris (1948 - 2021)

Jerry Lee Aulick, 89, passed away at home, October 17, 2021 with his daughter by his side. A celebration of his life, with military honors, will take place on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 1 pm at Calvary Memorial Church in Gering, NE with Pastor, Gary Hashley officiating. Jerry loved his desserts, so please join us for cake and pie after the service. Burial will take place at East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare, NE later in the afternoon. Jerry was born July 30, 1932 in Minatare, NE to Oswald Louis “Louie” Aulick Jr. and Ruth Fulton Johnson Aulick. Jerry attended school in Minatare. At age 13, Jerry built and raced a car in the Soap Box Derby held at the Scottsbluff National Monument. He won first place and received a medal for the Best Built Car. Jerry then proceeded to Akron, OH to compete in the National Soap Box Derby where he won 5th place. Later on, the Aulicks moved to a beautiful farm located 1 mile North West of Minatare. Jerry’s father purchased 35 head of dairy cattle and put him in charge of the operation.

In 1952, during the Korean War, Jerry was drafted into the Army. He scored high on exams and was able to by-pass infantry training. He was later deployed to Okinawa. Half way across the Pacific Ocean, the war ended. Jerry served 1 ½ years in Okinawa as a communications specialist. Upon returning home, the dairy cattle had been sold, so Jerry decided to use his skills attained in the army and pursued radio and electrical repairs.

In 1962, Jerry married the love of his life, Millie (White) and bought a home in Gering, NE. In 1963 their son, Robin, was born and in 1966 their daughter, Sherri, was born. Jerry was employed at Nebraska Machinery for 9 years. Millie sensed that he needed a change and encouraged him to start his own business and Jerry’s Electric was established. It was a successful business for many years.

Jerry and Millie enjoyed their retirement years traveling and just spending time with their granddaughters. Jerry enjoyed several hobbies including metal casting, lathe projects, cement casting, and woodworking. Jerry will be greatly missed by his daughter Sherri (Darwin) Carlson of Scottsbluff, NE, granddaughter Kirstyn Carlson of Gering, NE, granddaughter Kylie Carlson of Aurora, CO, cousins Bonnie Loy and Jody (John) Chicoine of FL, nephew Steve Weller (Donna) of WY, niece Linda Miller of TX, niece Lanna (Don) Williams of FL. and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Millie of 56 years, his son Robin L. Aulick, grandparents and parents, Harry Aulick, Kathryn Weller, Joseph Weller, James Loy, Mike Loy, and James Miller.

A celebration of his life, with military honors, will take place on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 1 pm at Calvary Memorial Church in Gering, NE with Pastor, Gary Hashley officiating. Jerry loved his desserts, so please join us for cake and pie after the service. Burial will take place at East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare, NE later in the afternoon. Arrangements made by Gering Memorial Chapel.Jerry was born July 30, 1932 in Minatare, NE to Oswald Louis “Louie” Aulick Jr. and Ruth Fulton Johnson Aulick. Jerry attended school in Minatare. At age 13, Jerry built and raced a car in the Soap Box Derby held at the Scottsbluff National Monument. He won first place and received a medal for the Best Built Car. Jerry then proceeded to Akron, OH to compete in the National Soap Box Derby where he won 5th place. Later on, the Aulicks moved to a beautiful farm located 1 mile North West of Minatare.
