Marsha Jean McGowan, who famously told her commanding officer to come back in a half an hour because she was not ready for inspection, died at Regional West Medical Center June 4, 2021, in Scottsbluff, NE.

She was born to Clifford Adrian &amp; Margaret Isabel (Hoyle) Huntley on August 4, 1950, in the historic village of Ticonderoga, NY. She had an idyllic childhood in the Adirondack Mountains on the shores of Lake George, graduating from Ticonderoga High School in 1968. She attended a presentation by the local United States Air Force recruiter to lend moral support to a friend and enlisted in October 1968. Marsha was the Honor Graduate in her Basic Training class at Sheppard Air Force Base, TX, graduating in 1969. Marsha worked as a Medical Service Specialist helping to deliver babies. Her first duty station was with the 551st Hospital at Otis Air Force Base, Massachusetts. There she met James Carter McGowan when her Ford Mustang broke down. They were married at the First Baptist Church in her hometown on November 22, 1969. Marsha served in the military when women could be married but not become pregnant. She was honorably discharged December 24, 1970. She gave birth to her daughter, Angela Coleen, June 1971, at Little Rock Air Force Base and gave birth to her son, Matthew William Carter McGowan, March 1973, at Incirlik Common Defense Installation, Adana, Turkey. Her own military career over, Marsha embraced the role of military wife. Moving household eleven times stateside and overseas. She was resilient and lived by the motto, “When the cat’s away, the mice will play.” Her faith sustained her through many rough patches. When her husband retired from the Air Force in 1989, Marsha was given a citation at his retirement ceremony for her contribution to the mission. She was an avid reader, gregarious, and never met a stranger.

Marsha held many jobs over the years. Most interesting were Tupperware consultant, apple sorter, and noon-duty aide at her children’s school. She pursued higher education at the American River College in Sacramento, CA and Anchorage Community College in Anchorage, AK. After her children left home, she went back to school graduating with her Practical Nursing degree from Western Nebraska Community College in 1999. She moved with her husband to Grand Island, NE where she cared for veterans at the Grand Island Veterans Home for 6 ½ years. Returning to the panhandle in 2005, Marsha worked for Northfield Retirement Communities until she contracted a rare form of herpes simplex encephalitis in March 2007. Marsha beat the odds and survived but lived as an invalid for the rest of her life being lovingly cared for by her husband. When Jim died suddenly on May 11, 2021, Marsha could not live without him and began her quick journey to join him. Marsha was preceded in death by her husband of 51 ½ years, her parents, eldest sister Linda Baluka and infant sister Sharon Huntley. She is survived by her daughter Angela Barnard (Dan) of Meridian, Mississippi, and son Matthew (Karen) of Banner County, Nebraska; grandchildren Ivan James and Iris Ansley Barnard and Breana Kate McGowan; sister Ellen Angell (Bob) of Fairbury, IL, and cousin Pam Petty of Port Henry, NY. Also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law Thomas Baluka of Thomasville, NC, Joan Ruth Ginther and Lenora Van Winkle (Jerry) of Vanderhoof, British Columbia, Canada, Patricia McGowan of Midland, TX, Ward McGowan (Karen) of Kimball, Nebraska, Judy McGowan (Larry Bailey), of Frederick, Colorado, and Richard McGowan (Donna) of Banner County, Nebraska. A plethora of nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Home from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Bible Baptist Church, 2023 Avenue C, Scottsbluff, Nebraska at 11 am. Marsha Jean McGowan (1950 - 2021)

James L. Merchen, 81, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, at his home south of Norris, SD.&nbsp; Visitation will be Wed. June 9, from 5-7 pm at the funeral home in Martin.&nbsp; Funeral services will be held Thurs. June 10, at 10 am MT at the American Legion Hall in Martin on Highway 18.&nbsp; Interment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis at 2:30&nbsp;pm.

Jim was born July 19, 1939, to James Edward and Margaret Ellen (Gibson) Merchen at Vetal, SD.&nbsp; He was the 4th of nine children.&nbsp; He attended country school thru the eighth grade.&nbsp; Afterwards, he worked for local farmers in the area.

In 1958, he moved to Pierre and went to work on the Oahe Dam as a concrete finisher.&nbsp; On. Nov. 3, 1962, he married Luella Heckenlaible in Highmore, SD and they had one child.&nbsp; They divorced many years later.

He was drafted into the Army in Feb. 1963 and spent most of the next two years in Munich, Germany.&nbsp; He returned to the states in Feb. 1965 and worked at Mueller Feeds in Martin for some time until they moved to Deadwood where he was employed at the Homestake Mine.&nbsp; He worked there from 1966 until he retired in 1999.

After retirement, he returned to the family farm to manage it for his mother, later purchasing it from her along with his brother Clayton as partners.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Chris) Aldridge of Rapid City; 3 grandchildren, Wade and Clint Leatherman both of Sturgis; and Whitney (Michael) Zylstra of White, SD; and three great grandchildren; four brothers, Lynn (Audrey) of Newcastle, Wyo; Clayton, Norris, Ralph (Susan) of Custer, Lawrence of Sturgis, and 2 sisters, Margaret Pike and Kathy Merchen, both of Denver, Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank, sister Florence, and infant brother Eldon, and sisters-in-law Sheila Merchen and Jean Merchen.

Renee Votruba was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.&nbsp; On May 31st, 2021, she passed away in Cedar Park, Texas, at the age of 43.

Renee was born in Chadron Nebraska on July 17th, 1977 to Rory and Carlyn Hughbanks.&nbsp; She attended high school in Hay Springs, Nebraska, before pursuing her Nursing Degree, which she obtained from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing.&nbsp; Renee’s passion for excitement combined with her caring nature led her to a career where she excelled as an Emergency Room Nurse and most recently as a Hospital Administrator.&nbsp;

On May 24, 2003, Renee married Brent Votruba.&nbsp; Together they had 3 children: Katherine, Will, and Elizabeth.

Renee had a smile that would light up a room with a firecracker personality that made her everyone’s friend.&nbsp; She loved her children more than anything else.&nbsp; Renee enjoyed spending time with her family and especially loved watching her kids excel in their different activities.&nbsp; From Katherine’s band performances, Will’s wrestling tournaments, or Izzy’s softball games, Renee would rave about them every chance she got.&nbsp; Renee’s passion for live music was no secret either.&nbsp; Anyone who knew her heard about what her favorite music was (especially Eric Church), and what concert she was headed to next.&nbsp;&nbsp; She enjoyed spending time at the lake soaking in the sun, and making memories with her family and friends.&nbsp;

Renee Hughbanks-Votruba (1977 - 2021)

Willard “Willy” Dietrich passed away peacefully on March 4, 2021 in his home in Alliance, NE. He was 89.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 27, 1931 in Mitchell, NE to Alex and Pauline Dietrich. Willy was the fifth of seven brothers and sisters.

The Dietrich family would soon move to Alliance where Willy attended public school. A good student and an avid sports fan, he would letter in football and play basketball. He graduated from Alliance High in 1949.

In 1950, Willy enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to the USS Rendova. While deployed, he witnessed the largest ever hydrogen bomb detonation to date. It remains the fourth largest explosion in US history. Two weeks later, he witnessed another detonation. This time it was an atomic bomb.

Honorably discharged in 1954, Willy would move back to Alliance where he met and fell in love with Karen Kosmicki. They were married on August 13, 1957 in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Two sons, Scott and Brett, would soon follow.

Willy became an engineer for the Burlington Northern and worked on the railroad for 38 years until his retirement in 1993.

Being an outdoorsman his entire life, he hunted, fished and golfed the sandhills of western Nebraska. A nature lover at heart, he could often be spotted at his favorite watering hole, the Eagles Club.

Quick with a joke, a funny story or lively back and forth with anyone he would encounter,

Willy knew no strangers. He always left you with a laugh and a smile.

Willard is preceded in death by his parents Alex and Pauline (Zechman), siblings Alex Jr. (Shirley) Dietrich, Lilian Barker-Hannon, Alma (Jack) Runge, Marvin (Betty) Dietrich, Kenny Dietrich and Barbara (Larry) Garrett.

He is survived by his wife Karen Dietrich, sons Scott (Sandy) Dietrich of Alliance; Brett Dietrich of Kansas City, MO; grandsons Christopher (Molly) Dietrich of Lincoln, NE and Logan Dietrich of Kearney, NE; along with several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

He will be missed by the many birds he fed on a daily basis and Peanuts the squirrel.

Gary Harold Zajic, 70, died quietly on May 28, 2021, at Livingston HealthCare, surrounded by his family, after a long illness.&nbsp;

Gary was born on July 27, 1950, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska, to Dorothy and Harold Zajic. He grew up on the family farm in Hemingford, Nebraska. He attended Creighton University in Omaha, where he received a degree in biology, and then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, from which he received a master’s degree in anatomy. He worked at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for 18 years, doing research on the biochemical mechanisms of hearing loss. He later moved to Thousand Oaks, California, and spent 11 years working on the development of new therapeutic drugs at Amgen, Inc. He loved to travel and was fortunate to have been able to spend time at various laboratories in Europe as a visiting researcher. After he retired, he and his partner Kathryn moved to Livingston in 2010.&nbsp;

Gary loved fishing in the Yellowstone River, pheasant hunting back home in Hemingford, and target shooting. He was intensely loyal to his family and friends.

Gary is survived by his children, Laura and Neil Zajic; grandsons Noah and Birch; brothers Tom, Bob, and Jim Zajic; sister Carol Krejci; nephews John and Ben Krejci; aunt Lois Hughes and his partner Kathryn Kimmel. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Dorothy and his twin brother Larry.

He did not wish a memorial service, but will be remembered back home on the farm in Hemingford, NE at a later date.

Wade’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and traveling, even if it wasn’t in the truck. He developed a passion for buying, selling, and restoring trucks. He also enjoyed the ranching lifestyle, building his own cattle operation. Wade took pride in his community, including becoming a Shriner, investing in several causes, and always lending a hand. He lacked the ability to say no, especially to kids or anyone in need. Diana L. Heupel, 57, peacefully passed from this life into the loving arms of our Lord, Sunday, May 30, 2021, surrounded by her family, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Diana was born on December 1, 1963 to Glen and Dorothy (Smith) Sherbon in Deadwood, South Dakota. She graduated in 1982 from Lead High School and from Rapid City School of Practical Nursing in 1983. She began her career as an assistant school nurse and home manager at Black Hills Special Services in Deadwood.

Diana and Lennie Heupel were married on September 1, 1984. Together, they moved to Alliance in 1996 with their three children where Diana served as an LPN for over 20 years. She loved helping others. Whether it was befriending a total stranger or reaching out to people who were experiencing hard times, Diana always made a friend wherever she went.

Diana is survived by her mother, Dorothy Sherbon of Alliance, and children Jenn (Chad) Kleewein of North Platte and their children Cray and Tage; Ryan (Kelsey) Heupel of Alliance and their children Tierney and Teryn; Trevor (Ashley) Heupel of Alliance and their daughter Lennon; her two brothers, Mike Sherbon of Salem, Oregon and Ron Sherbon of Spearfish, South Dakota. Diana was preceded in death by her father, Glen Sherbon, her brother Dennis Sherbon, and Lennie Heupel.

Private Family Graveside Services for Donna and Willis Hoffman of Crawford, Nebraska will be held at the Crawford City Cemetery.

&nbsp;Willis M. Hoffman was born at Marsland, Nebraska on October 16, 1926 to Bill and Marie Hoffman. He was raised with his brother Doug (Doc) and sister Bonita on the ranch west of Marsland. He attended Marsland High School until it closed then graduated from Crawford High School in 1944. In 1945, he and his friend Jack Winget went to California to enlist in the Navy and fight in WWII. While in California, he came down with rheumatic fever and spent several weeks in a hospital. Upon recovery, the Navy declined to accept him for enlistment, so he joined the Merchant Marines. He served on a T2 oil tanker and went around the world. When the war ended, he was discharged.

&nbsp;Willis came home where he met Donna Mae Dahlheimer, daughter of Frank and Bessie Dahlheimer who was, like himself, born and raised on the farm. Donna Mae grew up north&nbsp; of Crawford with her sister Marian and brother Dale. She graduated from Crawford High School in 1947.&nbsp; They married in 1947 and spent 73 years together making a life farming and ranching. Donna Mae was an avid seamstress and created unique clothing loved by family and friends as well as many others.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Willis passed on November 26, 2020 (Thanksgiving day) and Donna Mae passed on May 29, 2021. They spent their last few years together at Ponderosa Villa where they received good, compassionate care from the friends, neighbors, and relatives who work there.

&nbsp;Willis and Donna Mae were preceded in death by their parents, brothers, sisters, and their oldest son Roger. They are survived by son, David, who stayed on the farm and worked side by side with them his whole life; Robin, David’s wife; by four granddaughters, Amber, Tina, Cari and Cheri; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. They had a long, full life.&nbsp; Rest In Peace Mom and Dad!!!

A memorial has been established for Crawford Rescue Unit and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Private family funeral services for Timothy Connelly of Hay Springs, Nebraska will be held at a later date

Timothy Max Connelly was born April 14, 1941 in Crawford, Nebraska to Frank and Jessie Connelly of rural Whitney, the sixth of 10 children, and passed away May 30, 2021 at the Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs, Nebraska, after a short illness. A private service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Crawford Catholic Cemetery.

Tim grew up on the family farm southwest of Whitney with his six brothers and three sisters and attended a country school in Dawes County, District 24.

Tim always had an interest in cattle and worked at several ranches watching over the herds, and had a knack for knowing each one. In his later years, he enjoyed watching the cattle sales on television, and enjoyed magazines about agriculture, especially livestock.

Because of disabilities that limited him physically, he moved to Sunset Heights in Hay Springs in 1997 and lived there until a few weeks before his death. He loved the Hay Springs area and the people and when he got his little scooter, he was able to get uptown to shop and visit, and he really enjoyed that freedom. He made many friends in the area, over the many years he lived there, but his caretaker, Dawn Blonien and her husband Randy and family, became a big part of his life. Both he and his apartment received excellent care, and home cooked meals were always available in his freezer. He also loved and looked forward to his Bible studies that another friend graciously gave of her time to tach him, and he said learning the Bible made a big difference in his life. Another favorite pastime was going to garage sales, and he collected any animal yard ornaments that ranged from small ones to some very large ones that he kept outside his door. Bears, deer, wolves, and foxes were all part of his menagerie.

Tim had an amazing memory of dates and details of things, even of events from long ago, so he was an interesting conversationalist. His upbeat personality always made a visit with him very enjoyable.

Barbara Joanne Westlake, 82, passed away Friday, May 28, 2021 at Monument Health in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Barbara was born July 3, 1938 in Alliance, Nebraska to Edward and Della (Dempsey) Westlake.

After the death of her parents, Barbara moved to Sandhills Assisted Living. She resided there for the past 17 years.&nbsp; She was quite proud of the fact she was the longest residing resident. Barbara spent many hours at the Alliance Public Library. She would walk there every day rain or shine.

Every Sunday afternoon, she went to the movies. Special thanks to the many volunteers who provided rides for her.&nbsp; If you ever wanted to know any trivia about any soap opera stars,&nbsp;movie stars, or any other Hollywood gossip, Barbara&nbsp;could tell you.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, and her Step-father, Robert Woods. Barbara is survived by her cousin and guardian, Kathy Kampbell. She is also survived by several other cousins.

Graveside services will be held Monday,&nbsp;June 7, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; Pastor Tim Stadem of St. John's United Lutheran Church will officiate.

Barbara Joanne Westlake (1938 - 2021)

Kenneth Ray Andersen, 69, of Hemingford, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at his home.&nbsp; He was born March 24, 1952 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Murl and Beulah (Thompsen) Andersen and enjoyed a very lively &amp; happy childhood in Palmyra, Nebraska.&nbsp; Ken graduated from Palmyra High in 1970 and from Denver Diesel &amp; Automotive in 1971.

On August 6, 1971 he was united in marriage to his “Kathleen” Marie (Kathey) Swink at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lincoln; and, to that union two amazing children were born, Melisa Dawn &amp; Ryan Lance.

Ken was a master mechanic, who owned &amp; operated Ken's East Campus 66 in Lincoln for 25 years, sponsoring Ken's East Campus 66 Men's Softball Team for many of them.&nbsp; He was a devoted member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church for 30 years, serving as acolyte &amp; Men's Club President and, in addition to his immediate &amp; extended family; he was blessed with his neighborhood “Colfax Circle Family”...and a multitude of dear friends!

He and Kathey moved to Hemingford in 2006 to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law and 3 awesome grandchildren. At that time he became an active member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church, began his 12-year machinist career w/ BNSF RR, and, soon after, joined the newly established “Men's Power Hour”... adding many more to his beloved “family”!

Ken enjoyed reading, woodworking &amp; writing songs/poems; and, was an avid gardener &amp; chef...he so loved working &amp; playing outdoors and cooking for family &amp; friends. He enjoyed softball until his body started yelling at him...then he turned to golf; and, when the weather did not allow for that, he spent time in his shop creating &amp; repairing special items for his family &amp; friends.

He had many hobbies &amp; interests, but the one that trumped them all was spending time with family &amp; friends...especially supporting &amp; promoting his children &amp; grandchildren and attending their many sports &amp; activities.

Ken was THE BEST husband, dad &amp; grandpa...our ROCK...always leading our family by his faith-filled, quiet, laid-back, loving, kind, generous and fun-filled ornery ways, with such confidence in God, himself &amp; others, creativity, wisdom, common sense...and a wonderful sense of humor!

Ken is survived by his wife, Kathey; his daughter and her husband, Melisa and Todd Turek of Hemingford his son, Ryan Andersen of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his grandchildren, Alysen Kay Turek, Rick James Turek and Darin Ryan Turek of Hemingford; his brother, Thomas (Luana) Andersen of Lincoln; brother-in-law, James Swink of Glasco, KS; sisters-in-law, Mary Andersen (Bob Peterson) of Wilbur and Pam Harding of Wymore and many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents &amp; grandparents, his brother, Duane, parents-in-law, Ed &amp; Vivian Swink, brother-in-law, Jerome Swink, niece, Gabrielle Swink and many other precious family members &amp; friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at 10:00 am. at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hemingford.&nbsp; Father Tim Stoner will officiate.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery.&nbsp; A wake service will be Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 7:00 pm. at the church.

 </figure>Kenneth Ray Andersen, 69, of Hemingford, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at his home.&nbsp; He was born March 24, 1952 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Murl and Beulah (Thompsen) Andersen and enjoyed a very lively &amp; happy childhood in Palmyra, Nebraska.&nbsp; Ken graduated from Palmyra High in 1970 and from Denver Diesel &amp; Automotive in 1971.On August 6, 1971 he was united in marriage to his “Kathleen” Marie (Kathey) Swink at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lincoln; and, to that union two amazing children were born, Melisa Dawn &amp; Ryan Lance.Ken was a master mechanic, who owned &amp; operated Ken's East Campus 66 in Lincoln for 25 years, sponsoring Ken's East Campus 66 Men's Softball Team for many of them.&nbsp; He was a devoted member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church for 30 years, serving as acolyte &amp; Men's Club President and, in addition to his immediate &amp; extended family; he was blessed with his neighborhood “Colfax Circle Family”...and a multitude of dear friends!He and Kathey moved to Hemingford in 2006 to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law and 3 awesome grandchildren. At that time he became an active member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church, began his 12-year machinist career w/ BNSF RR, and, soon after, joined the newly established “Men's Power Hour”... adding many more to his beloved “family”!Ken enjoyed reading, woodworking &amp; writing songs/poems; and, was an avid gardener &amp; chef...he so loved working &amp; playing outdoors and cooking for family &amp; friends. Bruce E. Carter, 66, died Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport.

He was born January 3, 1955 in Alliance to Larry G. and Vera (Tyndall) Carter.&nbsp; Bruce graduated from Alliance High School and later went on to work for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad until his retirement.

He is survived by his son, Kyle Carter of Alliance; his brothers, Kenneth (Ronda) Carter of North Platte, Mark Carter of Las Vegas, NV, and Greg (Lisa) Carter of Alliance; 4 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Erica Carter.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date.

Michael P. O’Neill, 71, died Thursday, May 27, 2021 at his home.

He was born August 19, 1949 in Kearney, Nebraska to Patrick and Mary (Cunningham) O’Neill.&nbsp; Following graduation from high school, Mike went onto serve in the United States Navy.&nbsp; Following his time in the Navy, he went to work for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad where worked as a conductor until his retirement.

Michael was a member of the Eagles Club, enjoyed nature and animals, and was an avid music lover.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cara and Jeff Kammerer of Alliance; 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Colleen O’Neill of Redondo Beach, California.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sarah M. O’Neill.

Michael P. O’Neill (1949 - 2021)

Norma Jean Isabelle Todd, 90, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Las Vegas, Nevada. A memorial service will be Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at the Alliance Eagles Club following the service. Interment will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

Norma was born August 6, 1930, to Karl Phillip and Mary Crystal Koestel in Horace, Kansas. She was one of eleven children. Growing up in the dustbowl of Kansas was a struggle, especially with the loss of her father to cancer at age fourteen and her mother’s on-going battle with epilepsy. However, the strong family bond she shared with her siblings allowed them to persevere through the tough times and they remained close throughout their lives.

In 1951, while working in a café in Kansas, she met a young man from Nebraska, Jerry Todd, and in less than a year, became his wife. The two were united in marriage until his passing in 2009. Together they raised four daughters, Virginia “Jinny” Shoemaker (Fred) of Alliance, Beverly Yeager (Bill) of Huachuca City, AZ, Karen Todd, and Marla Kober (Fred) of Las Vegas, NV. She was preceded in death by her daughter Karen, in 2001. She was the beloved grandmother of eleven grandchildren; Brian Yeager, Jerry Yeager, and Joshua Yeager all of Huachuca City, AZ, Brenda Crouse (Mike) of Rapid City, SD, Troy Shoemaker (Laura) and Travis Shoemaker (Kristy) of Alliance, Trenton Shoemaker (Amanda) of Cibola, TX, John Hendricks (Bobbie) of Dresden, Ohio, Dylan Soester of Las Vegas, NV, and Cionne Soester of New York City, NY. She was also blessed with fourteen great- grandchildren.

Norma is survived by her older sister, Pearl Harris of Tribune, KS and a younger sister, Vera Dinkel of&nbsp; Mesquite, NV, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, Jerry, and daughter, Karen, Norma was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeffery Yeager, son-in-law Freddie Shoemaker, son-in-law Bill Yeager, and two great-grandchildren, Brittany Shaver and Dylan Shoemaker.

Throughout her life, Norma worked at a variety of businesses in Alliance including, the Drake Hotel, Woolrich, the Grocery Cart, Bowl More Lanes, and the Good Samaritan. She loved to bowl and participated in numerous leagues with family and friends. She was an avid flower gardener, growing everything from lilies to peonies in her yard, and was known to be an amazing baker and cook.

She loved to surprise others with homemade treats and often invited strangers to sit at her table when they had nowhere else to go. The family was the most important part of Norma’s life. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family, planning holiday celebrations and large family gatherings.

In the last few months of her life, Norma was blessed with the knowledge that she had served this life well and was prepared to rejoin her husband, Jerry, and the rest of her family who had passed before her.&nbsp; She left this world knowing that she was loved beyond measure and that her legacy would live on in the lives of her family and friends, forever.

Corwin LeRoy Hatcher, 82, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

Graveside services will be Friday, May 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery

He was born March 30, 1938 in Cozad, Nebraska to Corwin and Esther (McNulty) Hatcher.

He graduated from Cozad High School and attended Kearney State Teachers College.&nbsp; He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 3 years including a time of active deployment.

On June 30, 1963 he was united in marriage to Barbara K. Pepler in Alliance.&nbsp;

He lived in Golden, Colorado where he and his business partner operated SFFA, Inc, a computer software company designing software for leasing companies.&nbsp; When they retired they enjoyed living at Lake McConaughy and RVing.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Alliance, his daughter, Jill Hatcher-Keiser and special friend, Dana Moore of Prescott Valley, AZ, his son, Bryan Hatcher of Alliance, and his grandchildren, Jessica Dunn, Dallas Keiser, Corwin Hatcher, Brice Hatcher and Samantha Ashwanden.&nbsp; He is also survived by his sisters, Beverly Anderson of Lexington, NE and Twyla and husband, Kurt Gengenbach of Spring, TX and his brother, Jim and his wife Lynne Hatcher of Cozad, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Gregory and his brothers, Ronald and Gary.

Margie Lou Moss, 62, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at her home in Alliance.

She was born July 8, 1958 in Alliance to Verle and Dorothy Moss.

Her survivors include her son, Stephen and his wife Holly Sward of North Platte, NE and her grandchildren, Dylan, Shyanne, Ashton and Toby.&nbsp; She is also survived by her father, Verle Moss of Alliance, her siblings, Janet Nunes of Lincoln, Joan (Mike) Shannon and Jill (Roger) Bauer of Alliance, Verla (Bryon) Murray of Boseman, MT, George Moss of Columbus, GA and Terri (Ron) Wood of Hemingford and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom Simonson, 73 long-time Alliance, NE resident, passed away
peacefully Sunday, May 16, 2021 in Las Vegas, NV after a long battle with
illness and health issues.

While living in Alliance, Tom owned Simonson’s Sporting
Goods in Alliance and Scottsbluff, NE. He was also instrumental in starting
adult softball in Alliance.

Tom moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1988 and started his business,
Collegiate Graphics. After that, he bought several stores, Frontrow
Sports.&nbsp; Tom was a huge sports
enthusiast.&nbsp; From attending Alliance High
School and St. Agnes Academy sporting events to collecting sports memorabilia
and being a life-long Cornhusker fan, his love of sports was evident in all
that he did. 

Tom is survived by his son, Tommy, wife Mary Lou and brother
Jim of Las Vegas, NV; Brother, Bob of Greenwich, CT.

Alberta A. (Jones) Kramer Celebration of Life

George Donald Krejci, 85, died Monday, May 17, 2021 at his home.

George was born July 9, 1935 in Alliance, Nebraska to Edward J. and Ludmila (Fitz) Krejci.

He graduated from Alliance High School in 1952 at the age of 16.&nbsp; After graduation he began his lifetime career in farming.&nbsp; On September 11, 1955 he married Belva B. Berry at the First Presbyterian Church in Alliance.

George had a great love for animals, farming and especially antique tractors.&nbsp; When he wasn’t farming, you could find him in his shop restoring antique tractors.

George was a 49-year member of the Hemingford Rural Fire Board.&nbsp; He was an active supporter of 4-H, FFA, the First Presbyterian Church and the Highway 20 Tractor Club.&nbsp; He served on numerous boards and enjoyed visiting with anyone he came into contact with.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Belva Krejci of Alliance; his children, Dwight (Jerei) Krejci of Wheatland, WY, Lavon (Bart) Bierman of Isabel, SD, and Sondra (Jay) Vooge of Gering; his grandchildren, Levi (Leanne) Crowe, Tanner Krejci, Brenden (Chantri) Krejci, Natalie (Shawn) Hayes and Caleb Vooge; and his great-grandchildren, Kacen and Brynlee Krejci and Cooper Crowe.&nbsp; He is also survived by his sister, Marie Joska of Kimball; his sister-in-law, Twila (Jed) Lockaby of Newton, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Edward (Dellamae) Krejci, brothers-in-law, Joseph Joska, Donald Sulzbach, Kenneth Berry, Roy Berry, Charles Berry and Dale Berry; and sisters-in-law, Thelma Jones and Leona Marsh.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; Pastor Bob Gump will officiate.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department or to Regional West Hospice.

 </figure>George Donald Krejci, 85, died Monday, May 17, 2021 at his home.George was born July 9, 1935 in Alliance, Nebraska to Edward J. and Ludmila (Fitz) Krejci.He graduated from Alliance High School in 1952 at the age of 16.&nbsp; After graduation he began his lifetime career in farming.&nbsp; On September 11, 1955 he married Belva B. George Donald Krejci (1935 - 2021)

William “Bill” A. Marchant, 80, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Skyview Care and Rehab in Bridgeport, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bill was born January 5, 1941 at his Grandparents’ home south of Chadron, Nebraska to Arthur (Bruse) and Catherine (Jordan) Marchant.

He graduated from Assumption Academy High School in Chadron, in 1958.

On August 20, 1964 he was united in marriage to Jean Christensen in Chadron.

Bill received his Bachelor and Master Degrees of Science in Education at Chadron State College.&nbsp; He also completed courses at La Salle Extension University, Brigham Young University, Brown University, Yale University, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Kansas State University, and University of Wyoming.

Bill taught 2 years at Venango, 38 years in Alliance, and 9 years at Western Nebraska Community College.&nbsp; He also worked at the Alliance Post Office for 25 years while he was teaching in Alliance.&nbsp; While living in Alliance, he was a member of the Eagles Club, the American Legion Club, the Elks Club, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a board member of the Box Butte Public Employee Credit Union, and a board member of Panhandle Trails Intercity Public Transit.&nbsp; Bill was awarded the ACS Outstanding High School Chemistry Teacher in 1993.&nbsp; He also took great pride in his yard and received many Yard of the Week and Yard of the Year Awards.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of Alliance; his daughters, Kim (Jeff) Metz of Angora, and Tori Marchant of Scottsbluff; his two grandsons that he was so proud of, Dillon and Logan Metz of Angora; brothers Bob Marchant of Chadron, Don (Laurie) Marchant of Kaw City, Oklahoma; sister Norene (Steve) Jensen of Gering; two brothers-in-law, Bob Olson of Alliance, and Melvin Christensen of Chadron; many special nieces and nephews, Cindi Nielsen, Jodi Sutphen, Amy Varner, Christi Glenn, Brad Olson, Daniel Marchant, Bill Christensen, Brian Fisher, Matt Jensen and Mark Jensen; and his two cats, Missy and Louie.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Bill and Ruth Christensen, sister-in-laws Marge Olson and Dolores Christensen, and an infant brother Dennis.

Memorial services will be Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance, with Father Tim Stoner officiating.&nbsp; The family requests casual attire.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Memorials may be given to PAWS in Alliance or the Bridgeport High School Track Program in Bridgeport Nebraska.

Evert W. Smith, 81, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Box Butte General Hospital.

He was born on July 24, 1939 in his parents’ home in Alliance to Otto and Belle (Green) Smith.

On February 12, 1967 he was united in marriage to Judith M. Lehl in Alliance.

Evert worked for 40 years for the Burlington Northern Railroad.&nbsp; With his daughter, Vicki and his wife, Judy they operated Sweet Bre’s Flower Shop for 28 years.&nbsp; At the flower shop Evert was proud of the fact he had worked his way up to delivery boy.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, his daughters, Cynthia (Brian) Byer of Detroit, MI and Vicki Smith (Tim Overshiner) of Alliance, his grandchildren, Breanna Smith and Zachariah Overshiner, his great-granddaughters, Brooklynn and Jozzlyn Smith and his mother-in-law, Alvina Lehl of Alliance.&nbsp; He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his infant son, Anthony in 1971, his parents, his siblings, Bill Green, Ginny Wyatt, Donald Smith, Albert Smith, Della Sanchez and Otto Smith.

Memorial services will be Monday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Reverend Richard Mueller and Reverend Shaun Daugherty will be officiating.
