Mary Elizabeth Burke (Fitzgerald), 90, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020.

Mary was born in Torrington, Wyo., on Jan. 22, 1930 and attended school in Torrington. She graduated from St. Joe’s Nursing School in Denver in 1950. After graduation, Mary worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Alliance, Neb.

She married Bernard Burke on Oct. 29, 1955 in Alliance's St. Agnes Chapel. The couple’s first home was his parents’ homestead, a baled hay house.

A devoted mother and homemaker, Mary enjoyed spending time with family, making scotch-a-roos and cooking chicken and noodles. Visiting grandchildren knew the freezer — “ice box” as Mary called it — was well-stocked with homemade treats. She enjoyed gardening, watching her roses bloom and reading. The holidays were a special time for Mary as she enjoyed the Burke family’s gatherings and traditions.

She will be greatly missed by her surviving family, including her children: Kathie (Jim) Phillip of Torrington, Tom (Gail) Burke of Alliance, Ed (Dixie) Burke of Alliance and Irene (Terry) Heinle of Winner, S.D.

Mary doted on her eight grandchildren: Nick (Katrina) Phillip, Brittany (Mark) Feagler, Cody Phillip, Shelbee Burke, Christy (Darren) Jelinek, Jamie (Owen) Burnett, Lexie Heinle and Jordyn Heinle. Mary’s nine great-grandchildren include Lily and Jack Phillip; Maddux and Claire Feagler; Kealee, Kenley, Danny and Delaney Jelinek; and Farrington Burnett.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard Burke, son James Burke and parents, Martin and Hattie Fitzgerald.

Mary’s funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance. Father Tim Stoner will officiate and inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Academy in Alliance and the Nebraska Children’s Home Society.

Harry Edward Honstein, age 93, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Gordon Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Harry was born in Racine, Wisconsin on May 14, 1927 to Henry and Elma Honstein. Harry grew up with 2 brothers and 3 sisters on a farm in Racine. When Harry was quite young the family moved to a farm near Minatare, Nebraska. It was here that Harry learned to love the soil. It was also here that he met the love of his life, Helen Drieth. They were married on February 23, 1947 and started a new adventure together.

On this adventure, they were blessed with three sons – Steve (Terri), Randy (Shauna), and Dennis. Harry, Helen and their three boys farmed in Scottsbluff for several years before moving to a farm in Hay Springs; which is where they have lived until recently.

Harry loved “anything soil” whether it was planting, tilling, or harvesting. He loved sharing this with his three boys as they grew up on the farm. In addition to the crops in the field, his family grew fruit trees and a large garden to feed his family.

Harry was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rushville, Masons, Eastern Star; Job’s Daughters and served on the Farmers’ Coop Board.

Harry is survived by his wife of 73 years, Helen, two sons – Randy (Shauna) and Dennis, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by one brother Floyd (Ruth) Honstein.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 3 sisters, his son Steve and daughter-in-law, Terri.

Funeral Services will be set at a later date at the Hemingford Cemetery for family members. A memorial has been established in Harry’s honor and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Drabbels Mortuary, PO Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.

Beverly Ann Tschacher, 85, passed away Friday, November 13, 2020 at Hemingford Community Care Center.

She was born November 23, 1934 in Letts Iowa to Karl Clifford and Evelyn (Kistler) Jarvis.

On July 7, 1952 she was united in marriage to Donald Edwin Tschacher at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance. For many years Bev worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an Operator and later at L.B. Murphy Store and Carquest Auto Parts Store.

She is survived by her children, Koni Tschacher and Donald and wife Kim Tschacher of Alliance, her grandchildren, Mike and Kari Tschacher and their children, Kole, Grant and Colin Tschacher of Sand Springs, OK and Megan Tschacher and husband Nate Greever of Fort Collins, CO.&nbsp;

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be given in care of the family or Regional West Hospice.

June Stone (1935 - 2020)

Virgil E. Elliott, 89, died Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at his home.

He was born July 26, 1931 in Alliance, Nebraska to Larmer E. and Mable O. (Rodgers) Elliott.&nbsp; Virgil was baptized in 1943 and lived his life following the Lord.&nbsp;

He graduated from Alliance High School in 1951.&nbsp; Following graduation he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned home where he farmed southwest of Hemingford.&nbsp; He married Ruth Burney on November 4, 1954 at the Church of the Nazarene in Hemingford, Nebraska.

Virgil loved to fish and was an avid woodworker.&nbsp; He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his children, Greg (Teresa) Elliott of Scottsbluff, Terry Elliott of Hemingford, Rodger (Vi) Elliott of Blair, Tracy (Susan) Elliott of Cheyenne, WY; his special niece, Sue (John) Murphy of Arnaudville, LA; and his daughter-in-law, Patty Elliott of York.&nbsp; He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Stacey Lamar, Abby Torres, Lisa Singleton, Lauren Elliott and Ross Elliott; and 5 great-grandchildren, Tyrese, Tyler, Kobe, Dakota and Nala.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 infant sons, his brother Richard and his sister, Myrna Woodsmall.

Beth Johnson passed away on November 5, 2020 after a week in the hospital fighting COVID-19. Beth made&nbsp;Chadron home in 2009 when her former wife, Pam Newberg, took a position in library&nbsp;science at Chadron State College. Beth loved the Chadron community and&nbsp;participated actively in many organizations. It was her wish to stay in Chadron where she was lovingly cared for by the staff at Chadron Community Hospital. Beth was proud to be "Grandma Beth" in the&nbsp;preschool program at Northwest Community Action and CSC Child Care Center. Among many other&nbsp;activities, she&nbsp;exercised at the pool, made daily wellness checks on isolated elders as a care-caller, helped people negotiate the dying process as a hospice volunteer, and was a Senior Partner for students in the CSC class on aging.&nbsp;

Beth is preceded in death by her son Matt, sister Cathy, and parents Catherine and Marcel.&nbsp; She is survived by her sister Shelley, brother Jim, sisters-in-law Norah and Emily,&nbsp; brother-in-law Jim, stepson Tory, and nieces Mary-Kay, Ann, Ruzna, and Alida, grandnieces Adia and Payton, and grandnephew Ryan. We her family wish to thank the amazing staff at Chadron Community Hospital and all of Beth's chosen family in Chadron and Prairie Pines. Elizabeth Johnson (1950 - 2020)

Brycen Kyle Schock, 15, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, Wyoming.

He was born November 29, 2004 in Scottsbluff, NE to Faron and Sheila (Kennicutt) Schock.&nbsp; Brycen was currently a sophomore at Hemingford High School.&nbsp; He loved football, basketball and baseball, spending time with his friends and family, listening to music, cruising and playing video games.&nbsp; He also loved shopping for clothes and shoes.&nbsp; He was loved by everyone and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his parents, Sheila Enos and Faron Schock, his sisters and brother, Carissa Adamson, Cameron Nagaki, Jacob Adamson and Ava Schock and one niece, Aria Nagaki.&nbsp; He is also survived by his grandparents, Alan and Linda Kennicutt, Lynn Weldon and Joseph Schock and wife Shirley, his best friend, Darius Clyburn and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Brycen Kyle Schock (2004 - 2020)

Jennifer Lynn Crawford, 68, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at her home in Alliance with her family by her side.

Jennifer was born on December 24, 1951 at Dalton, NE to Floyd A. and Lois Darlene (Powell) Worth.

She was married to Ronald Gasseling in 1971.&nbsp; To this union her two daughters were born.

In January 1981 she was united in marriage to Arthur Crawford.&nbsp; They were married for 36 years until his passing in 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Jennifer graduated from cosmetology school and worked in that field until beginning her employment with Burlington Northern Railroad in 1978.&nbsp; She retired in 2012 as a supervisor with BNSF with over 30 years of service. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughters, Tera (Trent) Vogel and Alicia (Travis) Leisy of Alliance, her grandchildren, Tyler Leisy, Tierra Vogel, Trevor Leisy and Taylor Vogel, and her great-grandson, Luke Leisy.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brothers, Jerry Worth of Lincoln, NE and Jeffery Worth of Alliance, her niece, Amber Kelley and her nephew, Robert Archuleta.

Memorials may be given to the Hemingford or Alliance Booster Clubs or the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.She is survived by her daughters, Tera (Trent) Vogel and Alicia (Travis) Leisy of Alliance, her grandchildren, Tyler Leisy, Tierra Vogel, Trevor Leisy and Taylor Vogel, and her great-grandson, Luke Leisy.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brothers, Jerry Worth of Lincoln, NE and Jeffery Worth of Alliance, her niece, Amber Kelley and her nephew, Robert Archuleta.Memorials may be given to the Hemingford or Alliance Booster Clubs or the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association.A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Jennifer Lynn Crawford (1951 - 2020)

Susan Ann (Bourgeois) Hamilton, age 58, of Ramsey, MN, passed away on November 5, 2020, surrounded by her loving family, after a four and a half year battle with lung cancer.

Susan Ann Bourgeois was born in Two Rivers, WI, on August 30, 1962 to Melvin and Rosalyn (Wolter) and grew up in Mishicot, WI. She was married on July 24, 1993, to the love of her life, Kim Hamilton. They built their lives together, living in both Colorado and Minnesota, where they raised their three wonderful children.

Sue attended Mishicot High School where she pursued her love of music in both band and choir, along with various smaller ensembles, and graduated with honors in 1980. Sue’s musical journey began when she was five years old. One day, she came home from school, sat down at the piano, and with no musical training, plunked out This Land Is Your Land, singing along as she played. It was then that her parents realized the gift she had. She went on to attend college at Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, WI, where she majored in music and graduated with honors. Over the next 36 years, she pursued her musical career with a passion that was inspired by her Christian faith and a desire to bring joy through music to those around her. She shared her musical talent in many ensembles, singing and playing in church, leading numerous choirs, and teaching music in many schools.

Susan was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, several aunts and uncles, and brother-in-law, Troy Hamilton. She is survived by her loving husband, Kim, three beloved children, daughters, Laura and Johanna, and son, Grant, all of Ramsey, MN, her parents, Melvin and Rosalyn (Wolter) Bourgeois of Mishicot, WI, father- and mother-in-law, Ken and Doris (Weakley) Hamilton of Alliance, NE, two brothers, David Bourgeois (Lukas Bagemehl) of Sheboygan, WI and Thomas (Karen) Bourgeois of St. Cloud, FL, one sister, Mary Kay Reel (Melissa Dupke) of Two Rivers, WI, two brothers-in-law, Dale Hamilton of Alliance, NE, and Barry (Mickey) Hamilton of Denver, CO, many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews.

The family wishes to extend thanks beyond measure to their beloved friends, Tim and Nancy Kneefe, who have been a part of their family for more than 20 years and a major component of her cancer care team. Nancy became Susan’s medical advisor, advocate, and driver utilizing her nursing skills to document, educate, and translate the jargon and lead the charge as they searched for effective treatments in the battle that was waged against the cancer. Tim was Susan’s eloquent chronicler, sharing her experiences with friends and family through CaringBridge. Special thanks to all of the faithful prayer warriors who kept a constant vigil for comfort and healing.

A memorial service will be held at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church at 11:00 am, on Friday, November 13, 2020, with Fr Paul Jaroszeski officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020, from 9:30 am until the time of the service.

Susan Ann Bourgeois (1962 - 2020)

Gerald Lee Schnell passed away November 8, 2020, at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska.

Jerry was born December 16, 1938 in Bayard, Nebraska to Dave and Edna (Bauer) Schnell.

He was united in marriage to Rita Grau on July 3, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Alliance. This past July 3, they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Jerry farmed his entire life, retiring (as much as any farmer retires) in 2005. He enjoyed spending time with his family. This often included a trip to a nearby casino or a sneaky trick to put you to work. He loved to keep his grandkids busy with his projects.

He served with the Nebraska National Guard; served two terms on the West co Board of Directors; was a member of the Eagles Club; a former member of the Route 385 Cruisers Car Club; and was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rita, sons Brad (Joan) Schnell of Alliance, and Tim (Margo) Schnell of Lincoln, his grandchildren Courtney and Travis Turner, Conor and Kayla Schnell, Carly Schnell, Austin Schnell, and his fiancé-Chelsea Dean, Zachary Schnell, Michael Schnell and Elizabeth Schnell. He is also survived by his sisters, Joyce Galyen and Marilyn Schoeneman of Alliance, and brother-in-law Dean Varilek of Fremont, Nebraska, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his faithful companion Mitzi.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Varilek.

Memorials may be given to the ALS Foundation, The Panhandle Blocks Quilts of Valor, or the donor's choice.

Services will be held at a later date, with burial to be at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance.

Gerald Lee Schnell (1938 - 2020)

Larry Dayle Drummond, 79, Alliance died on Monday, November 2, 2020 at his home in Alliance, Nebraska. He would be described by many as "The nicest man I've ever met.”

He was born January 5, 1941 in Oakland, Nebraska to Lawrence and Alice (Johnson) Drummond.

Larry moved to Alliance in 1974 and for 10 years operated Deluxe Radiator Shop.&nbsp; Following that time in business he would later become Chief Jailor for the Box Butte County Sheriff's Office.&nbsp; He retired from that position after 25 years of service.

He is survived by his children, Kevin &amp; Enriqueta (Disucatan) Drummond, Brian &amp; Carmen (Shanks) Drummond, Connie-Jo (Drummond) Bingham, and Mark Drummond. His grandchildren, Sherryl (Drummond) Weick, Mario Drummond, Rehena Drummond, Andrea Drummond, Brandon Bingham, Karlei Bingham, and Taylor Drummond and his great grandchildren Ethan Weick, Keilani Weick, James Weick, Lillian Drummond, Sylvia Drummond and Liam Bingham.

He is also survived by his brothers and their spouses Lawrence and Helen Drummond Sr., and Donald and Jeanie Drummond.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother Richard Drummond.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 7 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.&nbsp; Pastor Glenn Johnson will officiate and burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be Friday from 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

&nbsp; Barbara A. Heywood passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the Goshen Care Center in Torrington, Wyoming 6-1/2 weeks shy of her 92nd birthday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, November 10th at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Michael McDonald and Father Stephen Deaver officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Visitation will be Monday, November 9th from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM at Gering Memorial Chapel, 1755 11th Street, Gering. Barbara Anne was the 2nd of twin girls born to Joseph and Josephine (Willy) Hiller at the Hackney Ranch on the Oregon Trail’s Little Blue River west of Hebron, Nebraska on December 18, 1928, the 7th of 9 children. Her early years were spent on her folk’s farms, where she did a man’s work while older brothers were serving in World War II. After graduating from Hebron High School in 1946, she attended college at Marymount in Salina, Kansas and Kearney State before teaching schools in Thayer County and Wall, South Dakota. In 1951, she moved to Chadron, Nebraska to further her education. 

She met Donald Heywood and they were married at Hebron on February 20, 1954. Don was a full-time National Guard member; and in 1965 they moved to Scottsbluff, where he was promoted to Operator Sergeant. Later he accepted commission to CWO3. Barb was employed by Thomas Montague and Wes Robinson at Fisher-Montague Electric, Inc for 22 ½ years. She loved baseball, especially the Yankees and Rockies. She played town team and college softball every chance she got. She enjoyed coaching her girls’ softball teams. She took pride in supporting her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, musical endeavors, marching band, school plays, and etc. She and Don bowled in various leagues for many years. They also visited (donated to) casinos in South Dakota, Colorado and Nevada. After retiring, she participated in several pinochle clubs. 

Survivors include 5 children: Thomas (Linda) Heywood, Donita (Charlie) Berg, Jean (Thomas) Vancil, Joseph Heywood, and Christopher Heywood; 8 grandchildren Cassie Jespersen (Derrick), Charlene Berg (Rebecca Blackbyrd), Cody Adamson (Tracy), Alexander Berg (Dana), Jordie Adamson (Pamela), Bridgett Rivas (Christian), Adam Vancil (Meagan), and Robyn Anne Stegmaier (Gary), 11 great grandchildren; one brother Joseph Richard Hiller, one sister Carolyn (William) Kassebaum, sister-in-law Barbara Hiller, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces, and grand nephews.

Barbara A. Heywood (1928 - 2020)

Gerald Bullard passed away at 89 years old on November 3. 2020 at his home in Newcastle, WY, joining his wife Judy and son, Jerry in heaven.&nbsp;

Gerald was born May 13, 1931 to Cecil Dean and Dora Hildred (Boyd) Bullard in Wister, OK. The Bullards moved to&nbsp;Stonewall, OK when Gerald was 14. Cecil purchased The Main Theatre where Gerald found two lifelong loves: movies and his wife, Judy.

Gerald married Judy Thompson May 21, 1950. Together, they raised four children: Jerry, John, Craig and Melinda.&nbsp; Gerald and Judy were a “dynamic duo,” running multiple successful businesses.&nbsp; They were a team, both at work and at home.

The couple planned to purchase a movie theatre in Fort Gibson, OK but it burned down before the sale, leading Gerald to take his first job in the oil field. That work led to a move to Wyoming and the founding of Goodwell, Inc. in 1968 at Upton, WY.&nbsp;

Gerald’s two passions were movie theatres and the oil field, which he worked not only to make a living, but because he loved them. Gerald and Judy owned theatres in Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota.&nbsp; Goodwell and GEJU Theatres played a major role in the lives of the entire family.

Gerald and Judy were nomadic, traveling between their various businesses in Wyoming and Nebraska.&nbsp; After Judy’s death, he returned to Wyoming in 2011 and remained active with the businesses and traveled with his dog Ruby.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Gerald’s passions, outside of movies, were bowling with Judy and fishing with his boys. His fishing trips took him as far away as Canada.&nbsp;

Gerald is survived by his brothers Wayne Bullard (Pat) of Allen, OK, Jimmy Bullard (Marilyn) of Tulsa, OK, sister Sue Herrin of Oklahoma City, OK, sons John Bullard (Susan) of Spearfish, SD, Craig Bullard (Janine) of Alliance, NE, daughter Melinda Powell (David) of Gretna, NE and daughter-in-law Rosalie Bullard of Evans, CO. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He will be sorely missed by all.&nbsp;Gerald was preceded in death by his beloved wife Judy, eldest son Jerry and sister Linda Kay Rowe.

Cremation has taken place and Gerald will be inurned next to Judy at the United Methodist Church in Alliance, NE.&nbsp;The family will host a memorial service May 13, 2021 at the Dogie Theatre in Newcastle.  </figure>Gerald Bullard passed away at 89 years old on November 3. 2020 at his home in Newcastle, WY, joining his wife Judy and son, Jerry in heaven.&nbsp;Gerald was born May 13, 1931 to Cecil Dean and Dora Hildred (Boyd) Bullard in Wister, OK. The Bullards moved to&nbsp;Stonewall, OK when Gerald was 14. Cecil purchased The Main Theatre where Gerald found two lifelong loves: movies and his wife, Judy.Gerald married Judy Thompson May 21, 1950. Together, they raised four children: Jerry, John, Craig and Melinda.&nbsp; Gerald and Judy were a “dynamic duo,” running multiple successful businesses.&nbsp; They were a team, both at work and at home.The couple planned to purchase a movie theatre in Fort Gibson, OK but it burned down before the sale, leading Gerald to take his first job in the oil field. That work led to a move to Wyoming and the founding of Goodwell, Inc. in 1968 at Upton, WY.&nbsp;Gerald’s two passions were movie theatres and the oil field, which he worked not only to make a living, but because he loved them. Gerald and Judy owned theatres in Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota.&nbsp; Goodwell and GEJU Theatres played a major role in the lives of the entire family.Gerald and Judy were nomadic, traveling between their various businesses in Wyoming and Nebraska.&nbsp; After Judy’s death, he returned to Wyoming in 2011 and remained active with the businesses and traveled with his dog Ruby.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gerald’s passions, outside of movies, were bowling with Judy and fishing with his boys. His fishing trips took him as far away as Canada.&nbsp;Gerald is survived by his brothers Wayne Bullard (Pat) of Allen, OK, Jimmy Bullard (Marilyn) of Tulsa, OK, sister Sue Herrin of Oklahoma City, OK, sons John Bullard (Susan) of Spearfish, SD, Craig Bullard (Janine) of Alliance, NE, daughter Melinda Powell (David) of Gretna, NE and daughter-in-law Rosalie Bullard of Evans, CO. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He will be sorely missed by all.&nbsp;Gerald was preceded in death by his beloved wife Judy, eldest son Jerry and sister Linda Kay Rowe.Cremation has taken place and Gerald will be inurned next to Judy at the United Methodist Church in Alliance, NE.&nbsp;The family will host a memorial service May 13, 2021 at the Dogie Theatre in Newcastle. Lester&nbsp;James&nbsp;Thayer,&nbsp;78, of&nbsp;Merriman,&nbsp;Nebraska, passed away on&nbsp;November 4, 2020 after a short illness.

He&nbsp;was born to parents&nbsp;James Eli Thayer&nbsp;and&nbsp;Maude Mae Swick, on&nbsp;August 19, 1942&nbsp;in&nbsp;Newport,&nbsp;Nebraska, the fifth of six children.

Lester&nbsp;married Verla Clausen on&nbsp;April 17, 1961&nbsp;in&nbsp;Rushville, NE.&nbsp;To this union six children were born:&nbsp;Verlene, Verna, LeAnn, Leslie, Cassie, and Malena.&nbsp; For the majority of their marriage they lived in Merriman where Lester worked for the Cherry County Road Department before retiring early to take care of his wife when she became ill.&nbsp; After the passing of his wife he spent his time traveling to spend time with his children and grandchildren, always making sure to not miss a birthday or anniversary.&nbsp; If not attending grandchildren’s events he could be found playing cards or games with his sisters and their spouses. Survivors include his children, Verlene (Mark) Zacher, Les (Jannette) Thayer, and Cassie (Jerry) Schweigerdt, all of Rapid City, S.D., LeAnn (Mike) Hinton of Indianapolis, Ind., and Malena (Scott) Richardson of Chadron; his grandchildren, Tony (Amanda) Zacher, Jessica Zacher, Randee Thayer and Jordyn(Eric) Beebe, all of Rapid City, Andrew Tuggle of Fort Wayne, Ind., Tyler and Bryce Hinton of Indianapolis, Brayden, Dayton and Kinley Richardson, all of Chadron and Derek Larson of Texas; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ann Hale (Gailund Valentine), Lila (Leo) Nelson and Karen Holeman and many nieces and nephews.

Lester James Thayer (1942 - 2020)

Sister Regina Boyle, 90, passed away Friday, November 6, 2020 at Marian Residence in Alliance, NE.

She was born December 29, 1929 in O’Neill, NE to Charles and Alice (Barrett) Boyle and was named Alice Catherine.

She entered the Sisters of St. Frances of Penance and Christian Charity at Marycrest Convent in Denver, CO on September 8, 1953 and took her temporary vows on August 15, 1956 and professed her Perpetual Vows on August 15, 1959 and took the name of Sr. Mary Regina.&nbsp; She received her bachelor’s degree from Regis University in 1952.

Sister Regina followed the Lord’s call to the Sisters of St. Francis in 1953.&nbsp; Three years of novitiate training introduced her to the ways of Religious Life. On August 15, 1956 she professed her vows and took the name of Sister Mary Regina.

She came to teach at St. Agnes Academy in 1956 and a year at St. Francis Mission, SD before returning to Denver in 1961.&nbsp; She would further her education and continue teaching at Marycrest High School in Denver.&nbsp; Sr. Regina would continue in her ministry in a variety of ways in teaching art and local ministering until 2014.&nbsp; She then retired and became a resident of Marian Residence in Alliance.

She is survived by her sisters, Rita (Ken) Grosse, Mary Ellen Klinetrobe, Theresa Parks, Frances (Lyle) Gillogly, Helen (Dennis) Cunningham and Bridget (Joe) Ramold, along with numerous nieces and nephews and her Franciscan family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Rosalie Crawford, Delores Schneider, Charlene Gaughenbaugh and an infant sister, Cecilia.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions a private Mass of Christian Burial will be at Marian Chapel in Alliance on Friday, November 13, 2020 with Father Tim Stoner officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the O’Neill Cemetery, O’Neill, &nbsp;Nebraska.

Arvelyn Ruth Suiter passed away Sunday, November 8 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, NE due to complications from Covid 19.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 14 at the Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance with burial in the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; The family requests masks be worn to the service.

Memorials may be given to the animal support group PAWS or to the donor’s choice and may be sent to the family at 1041 Duncan Avenue.

Ruth was born September 30, 1939 on the family farm/ranch east of Martin, SD to Irvin (Bud) and Edna Pearl Ladely.&nbsp; She attended Suhre Country School and Martin Public Schools.

She was united in marriage to Darrel Lambert on February 10, 1957.&nbsp; They welcomed three children into their family; Russel, Annora and Kurt.

She was later married to Arthur Suiter on June 17, 1978 and made her home in Alliance.

Ruth was a people person and always said that strangers were just friends she hadn’t met yet.&nbsp; Over the years she chose several jobs that enabled her to meet a wide variety of people which she loved.&nbsp; She was the “Chief Cook and Bottlewasher” at her own cafe in Whitney, NE; waitress at both Chuckwagon and Helen’s Restaurant in Chadron and the Drake Hotel in Alliance; and Regional Tupperware Recruiter/Manager of the Rhythm Wrangler group which earned her several trips and an official Tupperware station wagon.&nbsp; In Alliance she worked at Shop &amp; Save and BF Food Pride grocery stores as a checker.&nbsp; She taught many young people that bagged groceries for her that there were two ways to do it: the Ruth way or the wrong way!

She was fiercely independent and determined to live life her own way.&nbsp; She never forgot a kindness which she always tried to repay, more often than not in homemade treats.&nbsp; Her fondness for cats and her&nbsp; unwillingness to see them go hungry is evidenced by a sign on her house that says “Feed them and they will come!” which allowed her to assist a local group in their efforts to trap, neuter and release feral cats.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children: Annora (Dana) Bentley, Kurt (Tracy) Lambert and her beloved granddaughters Regan and Kayel all of Alliance; her sisters Kay Christner of Sterling, CO and Eileen Kamerzell of Martin, SD and her brother Wayne Ladely of Sidney, NE.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Russel, husband Arthur, sisters; Phyllis Daughters, Donna Westover, Norma Harris and brothers; James Ladely and Irvin Ladely.&nbsp; In death she will be united with her two grandchildren Philip and Ariane Bentley.&nbsp; She also leaves behind her beloved and faithful companions Max, Molly, Jet and Bear and her dear friend Ellen Lloyd.

God calls home Clara Irene (Weckwerth) Erixson, 83, of Crawford, NE, after a short fight with Covid-19 and other complications on Sunday, November 11, 2020.

Clara was born in Hot Springs, SD on August 12, 1937 to Walter and Mabel (Meier) Weckwerth. Clara lived with her railroad family in SD, WY and NE. After Clara graduated from Alliance High School in 1956, she enlisted in the Air Force where she cherished her time at Lackland, Chanute, and Lowry Air Force bases where she worked as a weather technician. Clara and Dick Erixson were married in the fall of 1958 and lived in Lincoln, NE. She was blessed with 6 children. She served as a den mother for scouting where she worked with many young children. She enjoyed needlepoint, cake decorating, she made porcelain dolls and repaired many dollies involved in accidents. She had a home for many dolls and over the years collected more than 2000. She was passionate about quilting and enjoyed this activity thru her last days. She is survived by her beloved husband Dick, sons John, Mike, and Jim and daughter Carolyn; and her sister Rita. She has 12 grandkids, 17 great grandkids. Clara is proceeded in death by her parents, brother Jim, and 2 sons, Theodore and Richard Jr.

Ilene H. Kubo (1932 - 2020)

&nbsp; Dorothy Jean (Dittenber) Kraft, 82 of Mitchell died Saturday, November 1, 2020 at UC Health Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO. Dorothy went home to be with her savior and her beloved husband, who she has desperately missed for the last seven years. A graveside service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff, NE with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Federated Church in Mitchell, NE. Dorothy was born November 11, 1937 in Scottsbluff, NE to Henry and Elizabeth (Hartwig) Dittenber, the youngest of nine children. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mitchell, NE. Dorothy attended school in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1955 as class valedictorian; an accomplishment she was very proud of. On November 15, 1959; Dorothy married Robert Kraft and some years later had one daughter, Trisha. Dorothy and Bob were happily married for 53 years. Dorothy was a dedicated employee at Pinnacle Bank in Mitchell for over 30 years. She was a member of the Federated Church and acted as church treasurer for many years. Dorothy enjoyed baking and was especially known for her blackberry pies. Dorothy loved spending time with her two granddaughters and attending all of their activities when she was able. Dorothy loved baking with her granddaughters and providing them with their favorite sweet treats. The handwritten recipes of love she has passed down will be treasured by her daughter and granddaughters. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Trisha Foote; son-in-law Ryan Foote and two beloved granddaughters Emma Elizabeth Foote and Ella Ryan Foote. Dorothy is also survived by three cherished sisters Esther Green, Helen Foos, and Lydia Reichert as well as many special nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Robert; parents and parents-in-law; sisters Amelia Huber, Clara (Henry) Schuldies, Katherine (Clarence) Buxman, Marie (Elmer) Stahla and brother Rhine (Leah) Dittenber; brothers-in-law Ruben Green, Harold Foos and Alex Reichert. She is also preceded in death by her dear family of in-laws who made many memories at family picnics and get togethers Kate (William) Popp, Mary Kraft, Fred (Freda) Kraft, Pauline (Harold) Wamsley, Lydia (Henry) Schwartzkopf, Mike (Violet) Kraft, Ruth (Bill) Meyers, and Betty (Willard) Schmer. The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind.&nbsp;&nbsp;

 </figure>&nbsp; Dorothy Jean (Dittenber) Kraft, 82 of Mitchell died Saturday, November 1, 2020 at UC Health Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO. Dorothy went home to be with her savior and her beloved husband, who she has desperately missed for the last seven years. A graveside service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff, NE with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Federated Church in Mitchell, NE. Dorothy was born November 11, 1937 in Scottsbluff, NE to Henry and Elizabeth (Hartwig) Dittenber, the youngest of nine children. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mitchell, NE. Dorothy attended school in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1955 as class valedictorian; an accomplishment she was very proud of. On November 15, 1959; Dorothy married Robert Kraft and some years later had one daughter, Trisha. Dorothy and Bob were happily married for 53 years. Dorothy was a dedicated employee at Pinnacle Bank in Mitchell for over 30 years. She was a member of the Federated Church and acted as church treasurer for many years. Dorothy enjoyed baking and was especially known for her blackberry pies. Dorothy loved spending time with her two granddaughters and attending all of their activities when she was able. Dorothy loved baking with her granddaughters and providing them with their favorite sweet treats. The handwritten recipes of love she has passed down will be treasured by her daughter and granddaughters. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Trisha Foote; son-in-law Ryan Foote and two beloved granddaughters Emma Elizabeth Foote and Ella Ryan Foote. Dorothy is also survived by three cherished sisters Esther Green, Helen Foos, and Lydia Reichert as well as many special nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Robert; parents and parents-in-law; sisters Amelia Huber, Clara (Henry) Schuldies, Katherine (Clarence) Buxman, Marie (Elmer) Stahla and brother Rhine (Leah) Dittenber; brothers-in-law Ruben Green, Harold Foos and Alex Reichert. She is also preceded in death by her dear family of in-laws who made many memories at family picnics and get togethers Kate (William) Popp, Mary Kraft, Fred (Freda) Kraft, Pauline (Harold) Wamsley, Lydia (Henry) Schwartzkopf, Mike (Violet) Kraft, Ruth (Bill) Meyers, and Betty (Willard) Schmer. The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Chester had a passion for team roping and although he hadn’t competed in several years one of his favorite things was to talk about team roping and the changes that were taking place. He is survived by daughters, Karina (Marty) Jones of Burwyn,NE, Trista (Cory) Rose of Hobart, OK and Brianna Dye of Andrews, TX. Grandchildren, Mahaya, Maysa, and Makamry Jones, Lakyn, Taylyn and Brycen Rose. Brothers Bart and Jack. Also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Chester Roy Dye (1957 - 2020)

Josefa “Josie” Lopez, 61, passed away Monday, November 2, 2020 at Box Butte General Hospital.

She was born in Yakima County, Washington to Dionicio and Maria D. (Lopez) Garza.

She married Adolfo Lopez on December 11, 1977 in Ramones County, N.L., Mexico.

Josie was a beautiful soul.&nbsp; She faced many obstacles in life, but remained strong through it all.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.&nbsp; She loved joking around and laughing.&nbsp; She also enjoyed listening to music and cruising through the town.&nbsp; She always cared for others and was a very selfless person.&nbsp; She was known for having a sweet tooth and a love for Dr. Pepper.&nbsp; Josie was a tough woman with a very warm and loving heart.&nbsp; Although she left many heartbroken, she was reunited with her beloved mother and daughter in heaven.&nbsp; Though she is gone, she’ll never be forgotten and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Adolfo Lopez, Sr. of Alliance; her children, Demetrio “Tito” (Sulamit) Lopez, Josefa “Josie” (Jose) Garza, Adolfo “Junior” (Lucero) Lopez, Belinda Lopez, Emmanuel (Renae) Lopez, Dionicia “Denise” (Raul) Gomez, and Maruka Lopez, all of Alliance; and 19 grandchildren.&nbsp; She is also survived by her father, Rev. Dionicio Garza of Nuevo-Leon, Mexico; her brother, Rev. Dionicio (Esther) Garza, Jr. of Roma, TX.; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her mother, her daughter, Maria Lopez, and her step-mother, Maruca Garza.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 6, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Templo Nuevo Amanecer Church.&nbsp; Reverend’s Dionicio Garza, Sr. and Dionicio Garza, Jr. will officiate.&nbsp; A prayer service and visitation with family present will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.&nbsp; Pastor Adolfo Reynaga will officiate.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

Josefa “Josie” Lopez (1959 - 2020)

Larry Leider, 71, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020 at his home in Alliance surrounded by his family.

Larry, “Grandpy,” Alvin Leider was born July 29, 1949 in Alliance, NE to Jake and June (Boyles) Leider. The oldest, and by most accounts orneriest, of 5 children would later move to Scottsbluff, NE where he graduated high school. In high school he was active in 4-H and horse shows. He had a horse named Frosty whom he would describe was “as wild as he.” After high school, Larry was drafted into the Army and was later stationed at West Point and then Vietnam. Life back home included attending WNCC where he received additional training and graduated with a degree in auto mechanics and auto body, a skillset that he was familiar with from his childhood. His final career move would be serving as a railcar mechanic at SWEPCO, later AEP, for 40 years. After his retirement on October 15, 2019, he proudly served as the official-unofficial foreman on his son’s house project. He was always going above and beyond everyone’s expectations.

Larry married his wife of 38 years, Nancy, and had four children Annie Peterson, Alice (Tuck) Fillingham, Amber (Chris) Cummings, and Andy (Amanda) Leider.

All who know Larry know that he had never met a stranger. He was one of the good guys who would go out of his way to do anything for anyone and if he couldn’t do it himself he would find someone who could. He was an avid collector, a food connoisseur (especially appetizers), a conversationalist, a wood carver, an ever-present hand at brandings, a regular presence at coffee time, an auction enthusiast, an expert furniture mover, and an all-around great man. Renowned for his tinkering abilities by his children, he enjoyed making things run another time around (current household dryer is still working after 37 years). Never more than a phone call away and no matter how far away you lived from him, you could count on him to run up and fix whatever needed repair - and of course be treated to dinner.

Grandpy to the late Kaylynn Peterson; Mollie and Harper Peterson, Fletcher and Griffin Fillingham, and Elsie Cummings, and grand-puppies Thor and Loki. This was a role he was so very well suited for; always bringing special treats, giving footsies, and never missing an event. A commendable servant to his country, an excellent role model for humanity, a good friend, and a wonderful father and grandfather to his family. He lived a life well-loved.

Larry is preceded in death by his father and his sister Teresa Leider. He is survived by his wife and children, brother Jake (Ronna) Leider, sisters Sandra Janes and Cindy (Larry) Taylor, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Larry was welcomed into heaven on November 1, 2020. We will forever cherish his carefree spirit and ever-present smile. He carved such a beautiful life for all who knew him.

Larry was devoted to Alliance and the panhandle of Nebraska. In this spirit, memorials are welcomed to be directed to Alliance Pillars in the Park, “Festival of Hope,” or a cause of your choosing.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Reverend Cheryl Harris officiating.&nbsp; Burial with military honors will be in the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-7 p.m., with the family being present from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Evan Gaige Allen-Mader, 20, died Monday, October 26, 2020 at Ascension 
Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was born March 
6, 2000 in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Freeman Allen, Jr. and Jessica (Mader)
 Allen. 
 Evan lived most of his life in Garden City where he attended 
school. His Junior year of high school, Evan attended school in Caney, 
Kansas. He then attended his senior year and graduated from Ogallala 
High School in Ogallala, Nebraska in 2019. Evan then attended Chadron 
State College in Chadron, Nebraska and Cowley County Community College 
each for 1 year. Evan also worked as a package handler for Fedex while 
helping father at ICT Tree &amp; Landscaping. Evan was an avid sports 
fan and loved participating in all sports, but his main passion was 
playing basketball. He also loved dancing, music, making people laugh, 
and spending time with his family and friends. 
 Survivors include his mother Jessica &amp; husband Ray Hull of 
Lee’s Summit, Missouri; his father Freeman &amp; wife McKenzie Allen, 
Jr. of Wichita, Kansas; two brothers Zayden Allen of Lee’s Summit, 
Missouri and Trindon Allen of Wichita, Kansas; a sister Rylie Allen of 
Lee’s Summit, Missouri; grandparents Tom &amp; Lori Herrell of Garden 
City, Kansas, Freeman Allen, Sr. of Columbus, Mississippi, and Angela 
Scheve of Amarillo, Texas; his great-grandmother Carolyn Kinney of 
Garden City, Kansas; and many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and 
Cousins. 
 A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November
 7, 2020 at Cornerstone Church in Garden City, Kansas with Pastor Raul

Sheryl Lee Roberts, 67, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at her home in Alliance.

She was born in Alliance on September 30, 1953 to Alva Edward and Cleo Clona (Hiner) Roberts.&nbsp;

Sheryl was a graduate of Hemingford High School.&nbsp; She then attended and graduated from Chadron State College with a degree in Psychology and Sociology.&nbsp; After working in those fields she became the Librarian for the Hemingford Public Library.&nbsp; She served in that position until ill health forced her early retirement.

She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Edmunds of Bayard and her brother, Darroll Roberts of Chadron.&nbsp;
