Four members of Nebraska's swimming and diving program were selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.

Gena Jorgenson, JoJo Randby, Lexi Kucera and Emily Haimes were announced to the list on Tuesday. The 2024 Academic All-District Women’s Swimming and Diving Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom.

Jorgenson has school records in the 400 IM, 500 freestyle, 1000 freestyle, 1650 freestyle, 800m freestyle and 1500 freestyle. The sophomore from Aberdeen, S.D. is coming off her second NCAA Championship appearance, where she became the first Husker swimmer to be named a First-Team All-American since 2006. Jorgenson was named a First-Team CSCAA Scholar All-American last season as a freshman.

Randby owns the 100 breaststroke school record, has the 10th-best 200 breaststroke time in school history and is a member of four relays on the all-time list. A junior from Omaha, Neb., she has 18 individual top-five finishes this season. Academically, Randby was named to the 2023 CSC Academic All-District team, a two-time second-team CSCAA Scholar All-American and a 2023 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.

Kucera is listed on Nebraska's all-time page nine times, including being No. 10 in the 50 freestyle, No. 7 in the 100 freestyle, No. 8 in the 100 butterfly, No. 5 in the 200 medley relay, No. 2 and 5 in the 400 medley relay, No. 4 in the 400 freestyle relay and No. 3 and 5 in the 800 freestyle relay. From Hutchinson, Minn., Kucera was named to the 2023 CSC Academic All-District Team, named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an Academic All-Big Ten selection.

Haimes has contributed to four Husker relays on the all-time list, including the second-fastest 200 medley relay in school history. The senior from Enfield, London, England was named to the 2023 CSC Academic All-District team and a Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar. She adds a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honor and Academic All-Big Ten honor.

Four Huskers Swimmers selected to Academic All-District Team

Nebraska senior guard Keisei Tominaga will continue a busy week on Friday, as he was selected to play in the Reese's NABC All-Star Game.

The game takes place this Friday, April 5, at 5:30 p.m. (central) at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., as part of Final Four Friday. The game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.

The game is a showcase for college seniors, and Tominaga is the eighth Husker player or coach to participate in the NABC All-Star game. He is the second Husker in as many years to earn the honor, as Derrick Walker played in the 2023 event.

Tominaga will also compete in the Hanes Men’s 3-Point Championship on Thursday evening, as part of the State Farm College Slam Dunk &amp; 3-Point Championships.

Tominaga enjoyed his best season in 2023-24, averaging 15.1 points per game while posting career highs in nearly every offensive category en route to second-team All-Big Ten honors. His 76 3-pointers ranks eighth on NU’s single-season chart while he was sixth in the Big Ten in 3-pointers per game.

Tominaga comes off his eighth 20-point game of the year by scoring 21 points, including five 3-pointers in the Huskers’ NCAA Tournament game against Texas A&amp;M. He had a career-high 31 points at Illinois, one of three career 30-point efforts as a Husker. A two-time All-Big Ten honoree, he totaled 1,074 points in three seasons at Nebraska and finished seventh on NU’s career 3-point list with 178.

His efforts helped Nebraska to a 23-11 record, a third-place Big Ten finish and the school’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014.

Tominaga, who will play for the West team, is one of three Big Ten players participating, joining Ohio State’s Jamison Battle and Maryland’s Jahmir Young.

Oakland’s Greg Kampe and San Diego’s Steve Lavin will serve as coaches in the All-Star Game.

Tominaga selected to Reese's NABC All-Star Game

CHICAGO (AP) — Cody Bellinger, Seiya Suzuki, Christopher Morel and Garrett Cooper homered, and the Chicago Cubs pounded the Colorado Rockies 12-2 on Tuesday night for their third straight win.

Bellinger's two-run drive off the right-field scoreboard at Wrigley Field was his first homer of the season. The 2019 NL MVP re-signed with the Cubs for a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/bellinger-cubs-boras-hoyer-376e3f6e314f649ea6230dee33397274">$80 million, three-year contract</a>&nbsp;in February.

Cooper hit a three-run shot in the sixth that gave Chicago a 10-0 lead. He also doubled and tripled in his first home start with the Cubs.

Nick Madrigal added two hits and three RBIs on a chilly, breezy night at Wrigley Field. Ian Happ and Dansby Swanson each had two of the Cubs' 14 hits.

Chicago right-hander Javier Assad allowed four hits in six scoreless innings. He struck out five and walked one in his first start of the season.

RESULTS: Tri-State Track Meet at Creek Valley

An accomplished administrator with more than two decades of athletic experience and a former vice president for the Denver Broncos, Dr. China Jude, has been named as Chadron State College's interim athletic director President Ron K. Patterson announced Tuesday.

Jude, who begins April 8, will lead and supervise the CSC athletic department as the college searches for its permanent athletic director. Ted Tewahade, who was serving in the interim athletic director role, will return to his position as associate athletic director.

"I'm excited that Dr. Jude will be joining Chadron State College because she's a great leader," Patterson said. "Dr. Jude has a proven track record of success, demonstrates inclusivity, and builds engagement, and she will provide strategic thinking and direction to our athletic program. I'm eager to see what she will be able to accomplish.

"I also want to commend Ted Tewahade on the excellent leadership he demonstrated while supervising the athletic program in a temporary role."

Jude is the CEO and founder of Auggie Oliver, LLC, a consulting firm that works to strengthen organizational demographics, as well as increasing engagement and culture. Jude's clients include several universities, professional athletic organizations, and collegiate athletic conferences.

"I really am excited for the opportunity to re-enter the college space," Jude said. "Having the opportunity to connect with President Patterson and learning about his vision for the college, as well as learning more about the wonderful people at the institution and the great things that are being done made me want to be a part of CSC. There's a great team at Chadron State and it is a great opportunity."

Prior to consulting, Jude was the inaugural Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion with the Denver Broncos from 2021-23. During her time with the Broncos, Jude collaborated with a variety of departments that emphasized cross-functional capabilities. She also helped launch events geared toward diversity, equity, and inclusion, and assisted with employee engagement and retention. She led the organization's DEI strategy and represented the Broncos on social justice initiatives.  

Before working with the Broncos, Jude was senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator (SWA) at the University of Wyoming from 2018-21. Jude oversaw seven programs at UW, including volleyball and women's soccer. She continued efforts to increase employee engagement and developed strategies to increase the talents of the athletic department staff.

While at Wyoming, Jude was named to the Sports Business Journal's Women in Sports Business Class of 2020 and was honored as the 2019 Women Leaders in College Sports Nell Jackson Administrator of the Year. Jude worked closely with the Title IX office and assisted with an eight percent increase in ethnic minority and female employees in under-represented areas by helping strengthen the university's diversity and inclusion recruitment and professional development programming.

A native of Waukegan, Illinois, Jude, who was honorably discharged from the United States Naval Reserves, earned a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism from Alabama State University. She also has a masters degree in sports management and marketing from the United States Sports Academy. She received her doctorate in athletics administration from Northcentral University.

Jude has experience working in Division II athletic departments at Queens College in New York and Cheyney University in Pennsylvania. She was the Assistant Vice President for Athletics at Queens College from 2011-18. She managed a staff of 50 employees while leading fundraising initiatives that raised $3.7 million dollars annually. During her time at Queens College, the Knights won 14 East Coast Conference championships. At Cheyney University, the oldest Historically Black College and University in the United States, Jude served as the Athletics Director from 2007-11.

Jude's other athletic career experience includes volleyball coaching stops at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington, Coppin State University, and the University of the District of Colombia. She also served as SWA at Coppin State and was the university's director of compliance.

Jude was named one of the 50 Most Influential Black People in Sports by USA Today Sports, one of CORE Magazine's 100 Most Influential Blacks Today, and was named in the 10th annual Sports Business Journal Game Changers: Women in Sports Business Class of 2020. Jude was also honored with the Women Leaders in College Sports Nell Jackson Administrator of the Year in 2019, which is given to an individual who demonstrates courage, conviction, and perseverance, and is an advocate for gender equity and diversity.

Jude is a current member of the board of trustees at the United States Sports Academic and the Sports Business Journal All-In Conference. Previously, she was the National Board President for the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association.

Chadron State names Interim Athletic Director

CHICAGO (AP) — For his warmup music ahead of his first major league start, Shota Imanaga picked The Fratellis' “Chelsea Dagger” — the goal-scoring song for the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks.

It sure sounds as if he is feeling at home in Chicago.

Imanaga pitched six sparkling innings in his major league debut, and the Cubs used another defensive mistake by Nolan Jones to beat the Colorado Rockies 5-0 on Monday.

Working in short sleeves on a cold, gray afternoon, Imanaga struck out nine in Chicago's home opener. The Japanese left-hander, who signed a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/imanaga-cubs-mlb-fa9f7a9fa18a0832ac9b211a8ac19bc0">$53 million, four-year contract</a>&nbsp;with the Cubs in January, allowed two singles and walked none — throwing 65 of his 92 pitches for strikes.

“What he did really well today is something that he's always done well is he threw a ton of strikes,” said manager Craig Counsell, who won his home debut with Chicago after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/cubs-counsell-mlb-25c4add86548423ccf3e38224c2cfd9b">he was hired in November</a>. “And then with the conditions today, the walk is kind of one of the worst things you can do from a pitching standpoint.”

Dakota Hudson also was impressive in his first start for Colorado, but a pair of errors on Jones on one play in the sixth sent the right-hander to the loss.

With one out and runners on first and second in a scoreless game, Christopher Morel&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Cubs/status/1774891111728697389?s=20">lined a single</a>&nbsp;into left field. The ball went under the glove of a charging Jones and rolled all the way to the wall.

Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki raced home as the Wrigley Field crowd of 40,072 roared its approval. Jones' throw from the warning track got away from second baseman Brendan Rodgers in the outfield grass, and Morel scored on a headfirst slide.

Jones also dropped a routine fly ball during&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/rockies-diamondbacks-score-515866e559dd700196f7111948ab01b4">Sunday's 5-1 loss</a>&nbsp;at Arizona, leading to two unearned runs.

“I just think I didn’t get my glove down,” he said. “It’s two days in a row that I’ve made mistakes in the outfield and lost us games. It’s unacceptable and I need to be better for our team.”

Cody Bellinger added a two-run single in the seventh as Chicago earned its second straight win after dropping the first two games of the season at Texas.

Hudson (0-1) was charged with three unearned runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings. He agreed to a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/rockies-mlb-hudson-stallings-28fc5a724384d49b46bd4589608c440e">one-year deal</a>&nbsp;with Colorado in free agency.

“Good to get out there. ... Just trying to eat up some innings and keep the ball on the ground the best I could,” Hudson said.

Yency Almonte worked the seventh for Chicago before Drew Smyly finished the three-hitter.

Imanaga (1-0) was working on a no-hitter before Charlie Blackmon singled to center with two out in the sixth inning. Rodgers followed with another base hit, but Imanaga escaped the jam by fanning Jones.

“It was a unique atmosphere, especially in the last strikeout,” Imanaga said through a translator. “And it might have not been the best pitch (with) regards to pitch speed, but getting the support from the fans I was able to get that strikeout.”

Colorado got its first baserunner when Kris Bryant reached on third baseman Morel's error in the second. But Ryan McMahon and Elias Díaz struck out swinging before Ezequiel Tovar flied out, ending the inning.

Colorado left-hander Kyle Freeland and Chicago right-hander Javier Assad take the mound on Tuesday night. Freeland (0-1, 38.57 ERA) was rocked for 10 runs and 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings in a 16-1 loss at Arizona on Thursday on opening day. Assad is making his first appearance of the season.

This week in Nebraska Athletics & Husker Highlights

PHOENIX (AP) — Christian Walker hit a two-run homer, Brandon Pfaadt pitched five solid innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 5-1 on Sunday.

The D-backs won three of four games in the season-opening series for both teams. Arizona dominated the majority of the weekend, outscoring Colorado 32-14.

“I really couldn't be more pleased with all the little things we did,” D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. “They far outweighed the improvements we need to make.”

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit an RBI single and Walker ripped his two-run homer to left in the first, lifting the Diamondbacks to a 3-0 lead. Gurriel continued a torrid start to the season; he has three homers, two doubles and 10 RBIs over four games.

The D-backs made it 5-1 with two runs in the fifth after a costly miscue by Colorado's Nolan Jones led to two unearned runs. Jones dropped Ketel Marte's routine fly ball to left with two down, allowing Tucker Barnhart to score.

“You just don't see that a lot,” Rockies manager Bud Black said. “It's rare that happens to an outfielder when he's camped under the ball."

Marte came home one batter later on Gurriel's double.

Gurriel had a good moment in the field, too, with a quick, accurate throw to second base that cut down Jake Cave, who was trying to stretch a single into a double in the seventh inning.

Pfaadt (1-0) was a postseason star during last year's run to the World Series and continued that success Sunday. He had an inconsistent rookie year in 2023, but was solid once the calendar turned to October with a 3.27 ERA in 22 innings, giving the team a third starting pitcher it needed.

The D-backs helped Pfaadt with the three-run first. Arizona's offense scored at least two runs in the first inning in all four games of the series.

“That was key to the whole series, getting ahead early,” Pfaadt said. “Then we do our jobs as pitchers.”

The right-hander gave up one run and five hits against the Rockies, striking out six.

Colorado's Ryan Feltner (0-1) was solid after the shaky first, surrendering three earned runs and five hits in five innings. He struck out four and walked two.

“Stuff was solid, my stuff is in a good spot,” Feltner said. “Staying aggressive is the main thing. There were times I let up on some pitches when I shouldn't have.”

It was a difficult defensive day for the Rockies, who had three errors. Jacob Stallings had two hits and the team's lone RBI.

Diamondbacks: CF Alek Thomas left in the fourth and was replaced by Jake McCarthy. The team said he had left hamstring tightness. Lovullo said it was too early to tell if Thomas would miss extended time and that he'd likely have tests done on Monday.

The Diamondbacks host the Yankees for a three-game series starting Monday. Arizona sends RHP Ryne Nelson to the mound for the first game while New York counters with RHP Luis Gil.

The Rockies visit the Chicago Cubs for a three-game series starting Monday. Colorado will start RHP Dakota Hudson against Chicago LHP Shota Imanaga.

Rough Sunday in the desert for Rockies

CHADRON, Neb. -- Despite Mackenzi Kroll hitting three home runs in Friday's game one, the Colorado Christian Cougars defeated the Chadron State Eagles in the two team's double header, winning game one 10-8 before having an 8-0 victory in five innings during game two.

The loss drops Chadron State to 5-29 overall and 5-19 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. #8 CCU improves to 33-4 overall and 25-3 in the conference.

In the 10-8 loss in game one, the Eagles scored the second most runs by a team in a game against the Cougars this season. The only team to score more was St. Mary's, who defeated Colorado Christian 12-10. CSC also hit a new season high with five home runs.

Chadron State built an early 4-0 lead after two innings. Lauren Zimmerman, a junior from Reno, Nevada, smashed a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to begin the games scoring.

Kroll, a senior from Brighton, Colorado, added her first homer of the game in the inning, extending CSC's lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the second, Jorja Sierra, a freshman from Morrison, Colorado, extended the Eagles lead to 4-0 with her first collegiate home run.

The Cougars tied the game in the top of the third inning with a solo homer, a two-run homer and an RBI-double.

It did not take long for the Eagles to respond to the Cougars run. In the bottom of the third, Kroll launched her second homer of the day, this time scoring two runs to give CSC a 6-4 lead.

Colorado Christian regained the lead in the top of the fourth when they scored their final six runs. The visitors had six runs with five hits in the inning while the CSC defense recorded three errors.

Trailing 10-6, Kroll hit her third home run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 10-7.

A deep fly ball by Ashland Baca scored Brady Lacuomer in the bottom of the seventh but runners were left stranded on first and second, ending the game 10-8 in CCU's favor.

Tori Haug, a senior from Commerce City, Colorado, dropped to 3-11 on the season in 3.1 innings of work. Kenzi Garner, a junior from Broomfield, Colorado, pitched 3.2 innings of relief, allowing only two hits and one run.

Kalia Eastburn improved to 6-1 overall in 4.1 innings for CCU.

The Eagles finished the game with eight runs and hits with three errors. The Cougars recorded ten runs on 11 hits.

In CCU's 8-0, five inning game two victory, they scored one run in the first and second inning before adding six in the top of the sixth.

An RBI single scored one in the top of the first before the lone error of the game by the CSC defense allowed a run in the top of the second.

With runners on the corners in the top of the fourth, Cheyenne Stark launched the first of three homers in four at bats for CCU.

Stark's homer put the guests up 5-0 before a solo homer added another run. The final two runs were scored after a batter was hit by a pitch and brough home by a Kenzie Middleton homer to left field.

The Eagles left a runner stranded at third in the bottom of the fourth inning and were unable to get a hit in the final half inning.

Brooklyn Levin, a freshman from Littleton, Colorado, received the loss in 3.2 innings of work. Garner pitched 1.1 innings of relief.

Chadron State finished the game with five hits and one error, compared to its opponents eight runs on eight hits.

After the Easter holiday, Chadron State will hit the road to Grand Junction, Colorado for four games against the 27-7 Colorado Mesa Mavericks on Saturday and Sunday.

Kroll wallops three homers for Chadron State, but CCU gets series sweep

DETROIT (AP) — Dalton Knecht was all over the court, jumping into passing lanes for steals, shooting 3-pointers, driving and dishing to set up teammates for shots.

<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/tennessee-volunteers-mens-basketball">Tennessee</a>, with its relentless defense from logo to rim and unselfish offense, was too much for Creighton.

Knecht had 24 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals, and the Volunteers moved within a victory of their first trip to the Final Four, beating the Bluejays 82-75 in a Midwest Region semifinal on Friday night.

“He was trying to rebound the ball and was really engaged defensively and wasn’t thinking, score, score score,” Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said.

Zakai Zeigler added 18 points and six assists and Josiah-Jordan James scored 17 points for the second-seeded Volunteers.

When Tennessee lost last year in the regional semifinals for the second straight season, Knecht was at Northern Colorado and Zeigler was out with a torn knee ligament.

Tennessee (27-8) matched the longest NCAA Tournament run in school history and hopes to get farther than the 2010 team that lost by one point to Michigan State in the Elite Eight.

"We're ready to go out there and hopefully make some history,” Knecht said.

Tennessee will face top-seeded&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/march-madness-gonzaga-purdue-score-00267a16cea65dcf8971feb7b453a13e">Purdue</a>, which beat Gonzaga earlier Friday night, on Sunday, with both schools seeking an elusive Final Four appearance.

The third-seeded Bluejays (25-10) reached the Sweet 16 for the third time in four years and fell a win short of equaling their first regional final appearance from last year.

“The further we get away from this game, the more I'll appreciate it,” said Ryan Kalkbrenner, who had 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

Baylor Scheierman, a third-team All-America wing, scored 25 points. But some of his teammates struggled against Tennessee's strong, persistent defense.

“That’s what we do, and I think it separates us as a team,” guard Jahmai Mashack said. “To sustain that as long as we do, that wears on teams.”

Tennessee went on a breathtaking 18-0 run early in the second half — taking a 55-39 lead — that forced Creighton coach Greg McDermott to call two timeouts because he didn’t want to wait for a TV stoppage to stem the tide.

Scheierman made a 3-pointer to end the drought and later had a three-point play during a 9-0 run that pulled the Bluejays within three points with 6:04 left.

McDermott said he played a triangle-and-2 defense for the first time this season, fueling his team's rally to make it close.

Knecht made a pair of 3-pointers that restored six-point leads and Zeigler set up Tobe Awaka for a three-point play that put the Vols ahead 71-64 with 1:39 to go.

During the pivotal burst early in the second half, Knecht was at his best.

The 6-foot-6 wing, who previously played at Northern Colorado and Northeastern Junior College, became the first former junior college player to earn All-America recognition since Larry Johnson in 1991.

“When I transferred here, this is what they said I was going to do and this is what we were going to do," he said. "We knew it could be something special.”

Knecht had 10 points in a closely contested first half with eight lead changes, three ties and neither team going ahead by more than four points.

The Vols were pesky on defense, playing chest-to-chest 40 feet from the basket, and forced a team that averages 10-plus turnovers to lose possession four times in the opening five minutes.

Perhaps fittingly, both teams didn’t get much breathing room on the court or scoreboard.

Creighton: A year after a heartbreaking, one-point loss to San Diego State prevented the program from its first Final Four, the Bluejays will have another long offseason to wonder what they could have done to get over the hump.

Tennessee: Barnes had his team prepared and made sound adjustments, but the veteran coach needs another win to quiet the critics of his postseason record. He acknowledged he couldn't enjoy the latest win.

“I'm not sure I'll be able to do that until it's finished,” Barnes said.

The Vols will play in front of a pro-Boilermakers crowd when Purdue tries to make its first Final Four since 1980.

Creighton knocked out in Sweet 16

PHOENIX (AP) — Alek Thomas hit a three-run homer, Merrill Kelly threw 6 2/3 quality innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 7-3 on Friday night.

Thomas had his big moment in the sixth, connecting on a slider up in the zone from Jake Bird, launching it deep into the right-field seats for a 7-1 lead. The Diamondbacks had 14 hits on Friday, one night after having 18 hits in their season-opening win.

“It's definitely contagious,” Thomas said. “You definitely want to be a part of it. All of these guys, having good at-bats, putting good swings on balls, it's been pretty fun these past few days.”

Joc Pederson — playing his first game with the D-backs&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/diamondbacks-joc-pederson-40821573955dc9145375f809a8b46ada">after signing a $9.5 million, one-year deal this offseason</a>&nbsp;— had four hits, including a double. Ketel Marte added three hits, a walk and a stolen base.

Pederson had the first four-hit debut in franchise history. Marte is the first to have back-to-back, three-hit games to start the season.

Kelly (1-0) cruised for most the night, giving up one run on three hits while striking out eight. The right-hander has thrown at least five innings in 30 straight regular-season outings, which ranks second among current MLB pitchers, behind Mitch Keller's 32-game streak.

“It was fun to be out there,” Kelly said. “Fun to get the first one under your belt. Felt good. Glad we're able to get off to the start we have so far this year.”

Kelly's performance was reminiscent of the last time he was on the mound in Game 2 of the World Series. He threw seven brilliant innings in that game against the Texas Rangers, giving up one run and striking nine, leading the D-backs to their only win in the Fall Classic.

The Diamondbacks got their scoring started with back-to-back solo homers in the first from Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Christian Walker. It was Gurriel's second homer of the season — he also&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/rockies-diamondbacks-score-0e47b690616daa31301c8fe420705dd8">went deep for a two-run homer in the D-backs' 16-1 win</a>&nbsp;in the opener.

Colorado's Elías Díaz hit a solo homer in the second to cut the D-backs' lead to 2-1. Charlie Blackmon had an RBI triple in the eighth and later scored on a wild pitch.

Cal Quantrill (0-1) gave up five runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings. Quantrill pitched the past 3 1/2 years for the Cleveland Guardians, but was traded to the Rockies during the offseason.

“He battled, he kept us in there,” Rockies manager Bud Black said. “He just got outpitched by their guy. (Kelly) pitched really good.”

The Diamondbacks were presented their National League championship rings during a pregame ceremony. It has&nbsp;<a href="https://www.mlb.com/dbacks/fans/2023-nl-championship-ring">41 diamonds around the logo</a>, signifying manager Torey Lovullo and team's 40-man roster, and also is personalized with each player's name.

Special teams and kickoffs are always under the rule-making microscope and CSC Head Coach Jay Long offers up thoughts and insight into the inevitability of change to the game of football

This fall in the pros kickoffs will look like the XFL model where the kicking team has its coverage unit lined up on the receiving team's 40 yard line. The return team will set up its blockers between the 30-35 yard lines.&nbsp; The league hopes the change will reduce injury risk as well as increase the amount of kickoff returns instead of touchbacks.

Coach Long played a key role in kick coverage during his career and looks at the situation from both the old-school traditionalist view and through the lens of football's future.

Long has been a part of committees that help consider and decide on rule changes in D2 football, and it typically takes some time before changes that happen above trickle down into the college game. Stay tuned, but it will all look "normal" for now when CSC kicks off the season against Nebraska-Kearney in August.

🔊 Could the new NFL kickoff rule become the norm at Chadron State games? 

Chadron State is about to finish its second week of spring football practice.&nbsp; The team hits the field three times a week for physical practice but also spends time in the weight room, film room and meetings to get ready for the fall season.

Head Coach Jay Long gives an update on how the team looked in the early going of spring work, and shares how players improve through CSC "football school."

Husker Soccer’s Sadie Waite was selected for the Canadian Women’s Under-20 roster on March 27, as she will compete in a friendly camp in Verl, Germany, April 1-10.

This camp is a preparation for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Colombia 2024, August 31-September 22. The team will play two matches as it will face the United States on Sunday, April 7, and Germany on Tuesday, April 9.&nbsp;

Waite totaled 17 points, good for fifth on the team, and added 32 shots (13 shots on goal). She tallied her first career brace in the Huskers’ NCAA First Round victory over SDSU, as she helped NU to its program-best third trip to the Elite Eight and a Big Ten regular season title.This week, NU continues its spring slate as it travels to Kansas City, Mo., to face Arkansas on Saturday, March 30 at 12 p.m. (CT).
