CHADRON, Neb. -- In front of a blaring crowd, the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers defeated the Chadron State Eagle wrestling team 26-10 Friday night in the Chicoine Center.

After a 4-3 decision due to riding time for Kearney at 125 pounds, the Eagles won their three matches in consecutive order before the Lopers won the final five of the dual.

Quen Campbell, a senior from Tifton, Georgia and the returning national runner-up, won 8-6 at 133 pounds.

Drew Arnold for the Lopers scored an early takedown to gain a 3-0 lead in the first period. Campbell scored his first two points with a reversal but a late escape by Arnold gave him a 4-2 lead entering the second.

After starting on top, Campbell gave up an escape but scored a takedown to tie the match at five entering the final period. Campbell used two reversal points and a penalty point to win the match in the and improve to 7-0 on the season.

The nations 13th ranked wrestler, Ethan Leake, earned a 13-5 major decision against Daniel DeRosier at 141 pounds.

Leake, a graduate student from Clovis, California, scored first with a takedown before the pair each had two reversals in the round. No scoring occurred during the second period, making the score 7-4 entering the third.

Starting on bottom, Leake scored a reversal that resulted in four nearfall points and led to his major decision.

The Eagles final victory occurred at 149 pounds when Torry Early upset the nations #4 ranked wrestler at 141 pounds, Nick James.

James, a two time All-American, bumped weight classes for the dual while Early, a senior from Oak Park, Illinois, received his first varsity action of the season.

The action began in the third in final period. Trailing 1-0, Early chose to start on bottom and gained an early escape. He quickly scored a takedown and two nearfall points before James scored a reversal. It didn't take long for Early to score an escape point but James quickly took him back down again. Leading 7-6, Early managed to escape one more time, giving him an 8-6 victory.

Trailing 10-3, the remaining six matches resulted in two major decisions, two decisions, and one fall and sudden victory, all in Kearney's favor.

The sudden victory occurred at 157 pounds. Nicholas Stoltenberg started overtime on bottom and quickly scored an escape against Brandon Paredes to win the match.

Chadron State wrestles next at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 16 and 17.

Alliance boys and girls wrestling sweeps Hot Springs on Thursday

LINCOLN, Neb. -&nbsp;The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team swept 12th-ranked and fifth-seeded Georgia Tech Thursday afternoon in a third-round NCAA Tournament match in front of 8,580 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

With the win, the Huskers (31-1) advanced to an NCAA Regional Final for the 11th time in the last 12 years. Nebraska will play the winner of No. 2 seed Kentucky and No. 3 seed Arkansas, on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Devaney Center.&nbsp;

Nebraska was impressive and efficient in posting its third sweep in three postseason matches. The Huskers hit .326 in the match, just the third time this season that a Georgia Tech opponent hit .300 or better. While Nebraska's offense was clicking with 37 kills and only nine errors, the Husker defense held the Yellow Jackets to a .019 attack percentage. Georgia Tech had 28 attack errors while being held to a season-low hitting percentage.

Merritt Beason paced the Huskers with 11 kills on only 23 swings, hitting .435 in the match. Ally Batenhorst added 10 kills on 25 swings. Andi Jackson had four kills on six error-free swings while posting a match-high five blocks. Bekka Allick added four blocks and totaled six kills on 11 swings. Lexi Rodriguez had a match-high 12 digs, while Bergen Reilly added 10 digs to go along with 30 assists and three blocks.

Tamara Otene led Georgia Tech (24-7) with nine kills, while Bianca Bertolino had eight kills.

Set 1:&nbsp;Allick and Batenhorst each had two early kills as the Huskers went up 5-1. Two more kills by Batenhorst had the Huskers up 10-3, and Murray put down a pair of kills as the Huskers built the lead to eight at 15-7. Beason had two kills and an ace, and Jackson had a block with Batenhorst and a kill, and the Huskers extended their advantage to 21-10. Nebraska closed out the set, 25-11, hitting .281 to -.111 for Georgia Tech.&nbsp;

Set 2:&nbsp;Beason started the set with a solo block, and Murray had two kills to help NU go up 6-1. Another solo block by Beason between Batenhorst kills made it 9-5. Huskers sweep their way to Regional Final

On Wednesday, the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) announced the women’s finalists for the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy, with Husker senior Eleanor Dale one of three selected by NCAA Division I women’s soccer coaches.&nbsp;

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. Most recently, Michelle Cooper (Duke) received the award for her outstanding intercollegiate performance last season.

The other two 2023 finalists joining Dale are Florida State’s midfielder Onyi Echegini of England and BYU’s forward Brecken Mozingo of Utah. The 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 5, 2024, to formally announce this year’s winner.&nbsp;

A native of Billingham, England, Dale turned in one of the best overall seasons in NCAA Division I soccer in 2023 with 61 points, 28 goals and five assists. She leads the country in total goals and now ranks third in Big Ten history in single-season goals and is just the fourth player in Big Ten history to total 60 points in a season.

In an outstanding senior season, Dale scored her nation-leading 27th and 28th goals in the third-round of the NCAA Tournament to post her 11th multi-goal match of the season, while helping Nebraska (17-4-3) to the third Elite Eight appearance in program history. With her total goals, she broke the Nebraska record for goals in a season with Kim Engesser, who previously held the record with 27 goals in 1998. Additionally, she is tied for first in the Husker record books in game-winning goals and her total shots this season place her at the top of the list.

The top-ranked Nebraska volleyball team will host an NCAA Regional in Lincoln for the first time since 2016 when the Huskers welcome No. 12 Georgia Tech to the Bob Devaney Sports Center for a 1 p.m. match on Thursday on ESPN2. The other regional semifinal features No. 8 Kentucky vs. No. 9 Arkansas at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday on ESPNU. Huskers Open Big Ten Play at Minnesota Wednesday Night The Nebraska men's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season, as the Huskers travel to Minnesota Wednesday evening. Tipoff from Williams Arena in Minneapolis is set for shortly after 8 p.m. and the game will be televised on BTN and carried on the Husker Radio Network.

Wednesday's game is the first of two Big Ten games this week for the Huskers, as conference play started on Dec. 1 and goes throughout the week before resuming in January. &nbsp;Nebraska's other Big Ten matchup will be on Sunday when the Huskers take on Michigan State.

The Huskers (7-1) look to rebound following a loss to No. 15 Creighton on Sunday afternoon. Nebraska, whose 7-0 start was its best since the 1977-78 season, was held to a season-low 60 points after entering the game averaging over 80 points per game. The Huskers shot just 34 percent from the field, including 2-of-22 from 3-point range. NU led the Big Ten in 3-pointers per game coming into the contest.&nbsp;

One highlight for NU was senior guard Keisei Tominaga who led the Huskers with 20 points for his second 20-point game of the season. Tominaga, who missed the first two games of the season with an ankle injury suffered on Oct. 29, has rounded into form in recent games, averaging 16.8 ppg over his last five games while shooting 58 percent from the floor, including 44 percent from 3-point range.

Tominaga leads a balanced Husker attack which features four players averaging double figures, as Nebraska enters the week ranks sixth in the Big Ten with 78.9 points per game. Juwan Gary has been exceptional off the bench, averaging 14.4 points per game on 54 percent shooting, while newcomers Rienk Mast (14.0 ppg, 9.8 rpg) and Brice Williams (13.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg) round out NU's double-figure quartet.&nbsp;

Lincoln&nbsp;- Jaz Shelley became the first Husker in history to record a pair of triple-doubles in her career by producing 19 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists to fuel Nebraska's largest victory margin over a Division I team in the school record book with a 108-35 women's basketball win over UNCW at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Tuesday night.

Shelley, a graduate student from Moe, Australia, nearly notched a triple-double in the first half with eight points, eight rebounds and 10 assists to help Nebraska bolt to a 62-12 halftime lead. The Huskers (7-2), who scored 31 points in each of the first two quarters, tied the school record for most points in a first half, while holding the Seahawks (2-6) to the second-fewest points by an opponent in a first half in program history.

Shelley, who previously notched a Husker triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against North Carolina Central on Nov. 20, 2021, hit 5-of-10 three-pointers on the night to ignite the Huskers to a season-high 16 threes, tying for the second-most threes by a Husker squad in school history.

While Shelley stole the show, her historic performance came in less than 25 game minutes, as the Huskers produced a complete team effort.

Junior center Alexis Markowski notched her fourth straight double-double and fifth of the season with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in just 19 minutes of action.

Freshman Natalie Potts continued her impressive play with 11 points and eight rebounds in just 21 minutes, as she came up just two boards short of her second double-double.

Fellow freshmen Logan Nissley and Jessica Petrie both notched career highs, as Nissley pumped in 18 points on four three-pointers while adding five rebounds, four assists and three steals in 20 minutes. Petrie added 11 points and four boards in front of her family who arrived at the arena from Australia shortly before tip-off.

Darian White (11) and Callin Hake (10) rounded out a group of seven Huskers who scored in double figures on the night, while all 10 available Huskers scored at least three points and grabbed at least one rebound.

For the game, Nebraska hit a season-high 58.1 percent (43-74) from the field as the Husker point total tied for the 10th-highest in school history. The Big Red knocked down a season-best 45.7 percent (16-35) of its threes, while hitting 6-of-10 free throws. Nebraska held a dominant 57-25 edge on the glass, holding the Seahawks without an offensive rebound in the first 20 minutes. The Huskers also won the turnover battle, 18-11.

Nebraska's defense was solid, holding UNCW to just 23 percent (14-61) shooting for the game, including just 2-of-18 threes. Taylor Henderson and Kylah Silver, who were two of three Seahawks who entered the game averaging in double figures, managed led UNCW with nine points apiece.

Nebraska opens Big Ten play on the road Saturday, Dec. 9 as NU battles Michigan State in East Lansing at 1 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network and radio coverage will be provided by the Huskers Radio Network.

Shelley Triple-Double highlights big Husker win

After being named to the Omaha-World-Herald volleyball Class B All-State 2nd team on Sunday, the honors continued for Alliance High School star athlete Jaelynne Clarke as she was named to the Nebraska-Coaches-Association All-stars team on Tuesday.

Clarke finished her career with over 1,000 kills and helped the Bulldogs to the District Final in her senior season. She was among the leaders in entire state in kills with 460, while also leading Alliance in both digs and blocks.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Clarke will play in the 40th NCA All-Star volleyball match on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024, 6:00 p.m. at Lincoln North Star High School. The coaches will select players to play for either the red or blue teams in the match.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team closes its three-game home stand by taking on UNC Wilmington Tuesday night in Lincoln.

Tip-off between the Huskers (6-2) and the Seahawks (2-5) at Pinnacle Bank Arena is set for 7 p.m., with tickets available now at Huskers.com.&nbsp;

Nebraska hopes to continue building momentum by completing a sweep of its three-game home stand. The stand began with a 77-53 win over Florida Atlantic on Wednesday, before a resounding 80-72 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday. The Big Red rallied from a 15-point third-quarter deficit by shooting 75.8 percent from the field, including 66.7 percent (8-12) from three-point range in the second half to put up 58 points after halftime.

Two-time Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award candidate Jaz Shelley led Nebraska with 22 points and eight assists. She became the 37th 1,000-point scorer in Husker history with her late shot clock, banked three-point hook shot from near the top of the key to help seal the win. She also moved into the top five on Nebraska’s career three-point list (175) and the top 10 on NU’s career assist list (395).

Two-time Lisa Leslie Award candidate Alexis Markowski (15 points, 10 rebounds) had her third consecutive double-double and fourth of the season in the win over Georgia Tech. Markowski, who is tied for fifth in Husker history with 25 career double-doubles, owns team-best averages of 17.1 points and 9.3 rebounds. She leads the Big Ten in rebounding and ranks seventh in scoring.

Two-time Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week Natalie Potts pitched in 13 points, four rebounds and two assists against the Yellow Jackets to continue her outstanding start. Potts is averaging 12.6 points and 5.1 rebounds while hitting 79.5 percent (35-44) of her two-point field goal attempts and 80 percent (16-20) of her free throws. She leads the Big Ten in field goal percentage (.667).

Darian White, a four-year starter and three-time All-Big Sky performer at Montana State before transferring to Nebraska as a graduate student, gives Nebraska another potent weapon. The 5-6 point guard is averaging 9.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and a team-best 4.1 assists, which ranks eighth in the Big Ten.

First-year head coach Nicole Woods leads UNC Wilmington to Nebraska with a 2-5 record after suffering an 85-58 loss at Iowa State on Sunday.

The loss to the Cyclones was the second game in a four-game road swing that began with a 66-58 overtime win at Winthrop last Wednesday. The Seahawks jumped to a 15-2 lead in the first five minutes, but scored just 36 points in the next 35 minutes as the two teams went to overtime tied at 51. UNCW then outscored Winthrop 15-7 in the extra period.

The Seahawks are led by senior Evan Miller, who is averaging a team-best 13.1 points to go with 4.9 rebounds after a 19-point effort at Iowa State. The 5-11 guard leads UNCW with 10 three-pointers on the year. Miller carried the Seahawks to victory at Winthrop (Nov. 29) with a career-high 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including 3-of-5 from long range. She scored 18 in regulation, including a three in the right corner with five seconds left to trim the UNCW deficit to 49-48 before sinking three straight free throws with less than one second left to send the game to OT tied at 51. She added eight points in overtime to account for the final margin.

Redshirt freshman Taylor Henderson has added 12.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 2.1 steals. The 5-11 guard is averaging six free throw attempts, but is hitting just 26.2 percent (28-107) of her shots from the field, including 4-of-25 three-pointers. Henderson had 11 points, eight rebounds, nine turnovers and five fouls in the win at Winthrop. She banked in a 30-footer from the left wing to cut the UNCW deficit to 47-45 with 12 seconds left. She had 12 points and five rebounds at ISU.

Britany Range (4.7 ppg, 3.4 rpg) and Mary Ferrito (1.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg), a Wisconsin transfer, round out a group of four starting guards for the Seahawks. Range has hit a team-best 34.8 percent (8-23) from three-point range, but Ferrito has hit just 4-of-24 shots overall from the field, including 0-of-10 threes. Ferrito is averaging a team-best 3.3 assists per game.

Freshman Kylah Silver gives UNCW a third double-figure scorer by averaging 11.3 points and 4.3 rebounds off the bench. The 5-7 guard averages more than five free throw attempts per game and is shooting 86.5 percent (32-37) at the line. She also ranks second on the team behind Henderson with 2.0 steals per game. Silver had 12 points in the loss at Iowa State.

Sophomore McCall King gives UNCW more backcourt depth with the 5-10 guard averaging 4.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

Lexi Jackson, a 6-4 senior center, leads UNCW inside by averaging 5.1 points and team bests of 8.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks.

Corrie McLaughlin, a 6-2 freshman forward, has added size and efficiency by going 7-for-7 from the field on the season. The Seahawks have more depth inside with 6-3 sophomore forwards Mingaile Urmuleviciute (2.5 ppg, 1.0 rpg) and Sammy Ackles (1.8 ppg, 2.3 rpg).

The Nebraska men's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season, as the Huskers travel to Minnesota Wednesday evening. Tipoff from Williams Arena in Minneapolis is set for shortly after 8 p.m. and the game will be televised on BTN and carried on the Husker Radio Network.

Tominaga Returns to All-Big Ten FormNebraska's lineup has been boosted by the return of fifth-year senior Keisei Tominaga, who missed NU's first two games with an ankle injury. He leads the Huskers in scoring at 15.5 ppg and is shooting 51 percent from the field and almost 40 percent from 3-point range.&nbsp;

New Faces, New RolesNebraska made a big splash in the transfer portal, adding five players to the roster, and their impact is already being felt during the early portion of the season. In front of a crowd of 8,640 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, the Huskers (30-1) never trailed in sets one and two and held off the Tigers (18-13) in the third in a 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 sweep. &nbsp;

Nebraska will host an NCAA Regional next Thursday and Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Nebraska will host No. 12 Georgia Tech in one regional semifinal at 1 p.m. on Thursday on ESPN2. No. 8 Kentucky will play No. 9 Arkansas in the other regional semifinal in Lincoln at 3:30 p.m. on ESPNU. A very limited number of tickets will go on sale on&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/tickets" target="_blank">Huskers.com</a>&nbsp;on Sunday at 7 p.m. The winners will meet in Saturday's regional final at 5 p.m. on ESPNU.&nbsp;

The Huskers hit .264 in the match and limited Missouri to an .089 mark. Nebraska had 14 blocks, its highest total in a three-set match this season. The Huskers also had a strong serving night, producing five aces and only four errors.

Merritt Beason led the Nebraska offense for the second straight night with 12 kills on 23 swings while hitting above .430 for the second match in a row. Ally Batenhorst had seven kills on 22 swings and Harper Murray totaled six kills on 19 attacks. Bergen Reilly dished out 26 assists and added 10 digs and a career-high four aces.

Defensively, Bekka Allick had eight blocks to go along with five kills. Andi Jackson recorded six stuffs, while Beason added five blocks. Lexi Rodiguez (11) and Laney Choboy (10) each had double-digit digs for the Big Red.

Janet DeMarrais (13 kills) and Dilara Gedikoglu (12) led Missouri, which ended its season with an 18-13 record.

Set 1:&nbsp;Reilly started off the match serving a 7-0 run that included three aces, kills by Murray and Beason, and two blocks by Allick. The Tigers stormed back with an 8-3 run to get within 10-8. Nebraska ran off four straight points to go up 16-10, sparked by a Reilly kill and a block by Beason and Allick. Allick added two more blocks, one with Beason and one with Allick, to make it 20-11. Later, Beason and Jackson teamed up for a block as the Huskers went up 11, 23-12. Beason tipped a kill for set point, 24-13, and the Huskers won 25-14 on a Batenhorst kill. Nebraska held Mizzou to -.240 hitting in the opening frame.&nbsp;

Set 2:&nbsp;A 6-1 run put the Huskers in front, 9-4. Jackson had two kills, while Beason and Batenhorst each had one. Back-to-back kills by Beason and Murray made it 13-8, and another Murray kill and a Missouri hitting error gave the Big Red a 15-10 lead at the media timeout. The Huskers had four kills in a row before a Murray ace made it 20-12. Missouri got within 22-17, but Batenhorst terminated and Reilly and Jackson stuffed a Tiger attack, and NU won 25-19 on a Missouri service error.&nbsp;

Set 3:&nbsp;Missouri led 9-8 before a kill by Allick and Reilly's fourth ace flipped the lead to the Huskers, and Nebraska went up 12-9 after two straight Missouri hitting errors. Nebraska led 14-10 before the Tigers went on a 5-0 run to take a 15-14 lead after three kills, an ace and a block. Allick and Beason had kills, and Batenhorst and Jackson recorded a block to put NU back on top, 17-16. Missouri reclaimed a 20-19 lead after back-to-back kills, but two straight Missouri attacking errors gave the Huskers a 21-20 advantage. LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Creighton’s Baylor Scheierman grew up 75 miles from Lincoln, in Aurora, so he has a deep understanding of the importance of Bluejays' annual game against Nebraska.

Scheierman scored 20 of his 24 points in the first half as the No. 15 Bluejays built a 15-point halftime lead on their way to an 89-60 win on Sunday.

“I started off my first four shots and then I kind of got hot a little bit,” Scheierman said. ”I don’t think we played our best in the second half, especially me missing a lot of open shots. But it means a lot, obviously, in this game to be from Nebraska and be able to have a decent performance. Credit to my teammates for finding me”

Scheierman became one of three players in the six major basketball conferences to make three 3s in a half this season, according to SportRadar.

The Bluejays' 29-point victory is tied for their largest winning margin over Nebraska in the 57-game series dating to 1923.

Creighton (7-1) trailed only twice, the last time with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The Bluejays then held Nebraska (7-1) to 16 points the rest of the half while hitting six 3-pointers, three from Scheierman, and 7 of 8 free throws to go up 52-37 at the break.
