At Monday nights regular meeting, the Alliance Board of Education approved the hiring of Tristin (TD) Stein as Head Football Coach at Alliance High School.&nbsp; He will also teach Physical Education at AHS.&nbsp;

Stein is a Chadron High School and Chadron State College graduate. He played quarterback for CSC from 2014-2019.&nbsp; Following college, Stein was a Sports Performance Teacher and Assistant Football Coach at South Sioux City High School.&nbsp; He served as Offensive Coordinator for the football team from 2019-2022.&nbsp; He then spent one season as a Graduate Assistant at West Texas A &amp; M University as running backs coach and special teams assistant.&nbsp; &nbsp;Stein has a long football background. His Grandfather was Dick Stein, long time Head Coach at Chadron High School. His father, Chris Stein, played at Chadron State and then coached football at the high school, college and professional level.&nbsp; &nbsp;TD Stein will take over for Chris Seebohm, who resigned after this past season, after 18 seasons as both an assistant and head coach for the Bulldogs.&nbsp;

The Board also approved adding a Girls wrestling program, starting in the 2023-24 school year. Next season Alliance will compete in girls wrestling tournaments and have the opportunity to compete in the Girls State Tournament.&nbsp; Several girls were present at the meeting and spoke in support of the program.

The Nebraska Womens Basketball Team will open the WNIT vs Missouri State,&nbsp; Wednesday March 15 at Pinnacle Bank Arena.&nbsp; Tip off is set for 5 pm MT.&nbsp; Nebraska finished the season 16-14 and 8-10 in Big 10 play.&nbsp; Missouri State went 20-11 overall and 14-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference.&nbsp; &nbsp;Coverage on KCOW-AM 1400 and 92.5 FM will begin at 4:45 pm MT on Wednesday.&nbsp; Second round games are scheduled for March 18-21.&nbsp; The Nebraska/Missouri State winner will face the Colorado State/Northern Iowa winner.&nbsp;&nbsp;

This year's WNIT berth marks the 19th postseason appearance in the past 25 seasons for the Huskers, as well as their third consecutive postseason bid. The WNIT third round (Super 16) will be played March 22-24, followed by the quarterfinals (Great Eight) from March 25-27 and the semifinals (Fab Four) from March 28-29. The WNIT championship game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. (CT) on April 1 and will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.&nbsp; All WNIT games are played on the campus of one of the participating schools.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bulldog Head Coach Nick Myers spoke at the team banquet Tuesday night and talked about a season of development and growth, but great improvement over the year.&nbsp; &nbsp;Myers thanked the athletes and the familys for all of their effort and support.&nbsp; Alliance wrestled a difficult schedule, competing in&nbsp; Ogallala, Cozad,&nbsp; Gering, Gordon-Rushville, Sidney, North Platte, Mitchell, Chadron, McCook and Southeast, Wy.&nbsp; &nbsp;The Bulldogs also hosted three home Duals.&nbsp; Season highlights included...A brand new wrestling mat, purchased by the Alliance Wrestling Club and local boosters and tributes to longtime Coach and Supporter Duane Dobson.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Post Podcast: AHS Wrestling Coach Nick Myers wraps up the season

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Sam Griesel scored 16 points, C.J. Wilcher broke a tie with five key points late in the game, and hot-shooting Nebraska defeated Iowa 81-77 on Sunday to close out the Big Ten regular season.

Wilcher scored on the fast break then added a 3-pointer for an 80-75 Nebraska lead with 2:33 remaining. The Cornhuskers committed fouls on their next three possessions but Iowa came up empty except for two free throws by Kris Murray. Nebraska made only 1 of 3 free throws in the final minute but Iowa failed to capitalize at the other end.

Nebraska shot 60% in the second half (58.5% for the game) and made 8 of 12 3-pointers after halftime.

Wilcher finished with 12 points, Jamarques Lawrence had 15 and Keisei Tominaga 11 for Nebraska (16-15, 9-11 Big Ten). All eight players who scored for the Cornhuskers had at least nine points.

Patrick McCaffery had 23 points off the bench for Iowa (19-12, 11-9) and Murray added 22 to go with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Filip Rebraca added 10 points but missed two key free throws in the final minute. Iowa made 9 of 21 3-pointers in the first half but only 3 of 16 in the second half.

McCaffery made five of Iowa's nine 3-pointers in the first half and scored 16 points to lead the Hawkeyes to a 43-39 halftime lead. Griesel had 14 points and Tominaga 11 for the Cornhuskers who kept it close by shooting 57% before halftime.

The loss ended Iowa's seven-game home winning streak.

Nebraska has won four of its last five games.

The conference tournament begins Wednesday in Chicago.

Huskers finish Big Ten season with road win at Iowa

&nbsp; CHADRON, Neb. – March 5, 2023 –&nbsp;The Chadron State College softball team swept Fort Lewis on Sunday, going 3-1 on the weekend. The victories improve the Eagles to 6-13 overall and 4-8 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Skyhawks record is now identical to CSC's. Chadron State scored four runs in the bottom of the 6th&nbsp;inning to tie the score at five, before a&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/softball/roster/bailey-steinke/8874">Bailey Steinke</a>&nbsp;single scored Jessica Henchenski&nbsp;in extra innings to win in game one. After Catheryn Rodman was walked home, Sloan Shotten hit a grand slam in the top of the second for the visitors, giving them a 5-0 lead. Scoring was halted until the bottom of the fifth when Mackenzie Kroll, a junior from Brighton, Colorado, scored on a wild pitch. The defender threw the ball home where Kroll was called out. Steinke then hit a grounder to the shortstop, who struggled to pick up the ball, allowing all runners to advance and Henchenski to score, tying the game at five. With the game in extra innings, Henchenski was walked and Quijas singled, advancing Henchenski to third. CSC's next batter, Steinke, singled down the left field line, driving home the winning run. &nbsp; <a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/softball/roster/tori-haug/8880">Tori Haug</a>&nbsp;pitched a complete game victory for CSC. She struck out eight, walked four and allowed the Skyhawk's five runs. Amiee Shanks took the loss for the visitors. She struck out three. &nbsp; Chadron State will be back in action on March 11 &amp; 12, 2023. Metro State in Denver will play hosts to the Eagles. 🥎 Chadron State sweeps Sunday softball in two one-run games

<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/josh-robinson/8517">Josh Robinson</a>&nbsp;was named 2022-23 RMAC Men's Basketball First Team All-Conference and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/bryce-latimer/8513">Bryce Latimer</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/isaiah-wyatt/8518">Isaiah Wyatt</a>&nbsp;earned second team honors, the conference announced today. A vote by the league head coaches determines the all-conference teams. Robinson, a junior from Paris, Texas, averaged 13.9 points and 8.3 rebounds a game this season. Those marks ranked him 16th&nbsp;and fifth in the league, respectively. He is the first Eagle to be named RMAC first team since&nbsp;Moala Tautuaa in 2011-12.&nbsp; At Colorado School of Mines during the regular season, Robinson had a season-high 31 points to go along with 10 rebounds, recording a double-double. He had eight double-doubles this year, including a stretch of four consecutive games. His season high 15 rebounds came at the end of the four-game stretch, where he added 21 points against Western Colorado. to join the North Platte Community College Knights men's golf team for its inaugural season in the 
fall of 2023.

Timbers is a multi-sport athlete for the Bulldogs and will showcase his talents on the course as part of the
 Knights' first signing class.

"I chose North Platte because of the opportunity to pursue a degree in business and play golf at the next level,"
 said Timbers.

For the third time since Chadron State College joined the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and became affiliated with the NCAA, the Eagles will host the regional wrestling tournament.&nbsp; The action for what is officially the Super Region VI Championships will take place in the Chicoine Center on Saturday.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The first round will begin at 9 a.m. Three mats will be utilized simultaneously. Some 110 matches will take place prior to the finals that are slated to begin at 5 o’clock to decide who advances to the Division II National Championships to be hosted by Upper Iowa University at Cedar Falls on March 10 and 11.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Eleven teams will be competing at the regional showdown.&nbsp; They are from the seven RMAC schools that have wrestling teams, as well as conference affiliate San Francisco State, along with Nebraska-Kearney, Fort Hays State of Kansas and Simon Fraser University from British Columbia.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; While winning the regional team championship is a prestigious honor, most coaches would likely say sending a van load of hungry wrestlers to nationals is more important.&nbsp; At stake are 30 qualifying slots to the Division II National Tournament&nbsp; March 10 and 11.&nbsp; Three qualifiers will come from each of the 10 weights.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Chadron State previously hosted the regional showdown in 1997 and 2013.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Kearney is the defending Super Regional VI champion and went on to win the national title by a wide margin last year, when eight Lopers placed among the top five there.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Kearney is fifth in the 2023 team rankings entering the six Super Regionals this weekend.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Central Oklahoma leads this year’s latest poll, followed by Lander of South Carolina, St. Cloud State of Minnesota and West Liberty of West Virginia.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Besides UNK at No. 5, also ranked among the top 25 teams are 7, Adams State; 13, Western Colorado; 14, Fort Hays; and Chadron State, tied for 19th.&nbsp; Both Colorado Mesa and Colorado Mines also have strong teams and are apt to have some national qualifiers and shake up the national poll.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Three Super Region 6 grapplers are No. 1 in the latest rankings, including Chadron State junior Quen Campbell.&nbsp; The junior from Tifton, Ga., had been ranked second much of the season, but moved to the top spot this week. He transferred to CSC from North Iowa Area Community College last fall and has a 14-1 record.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Campbell is tall and wiry.&nbsp; His most recent match was one of his closest. He got a late takedown and won 4-3 over Collin Metzgar of Colorado Mesa when they met on Feb. 11 in Chadron.&nbsp; Metzgar will be among Campbell’s challengers Saturday. He’s ranked ninth at 133.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The other top ranked individuals from Super 6 are Noah Hermosillo of Adams State at 157 and Billy Higgins of Kearney at 184. Both were regional winners last year, Hermosillo at 149 and Higgins at 184.&nbsp; Hermosillo emerged as a national champion and Higgins finished third.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Others expected to compete Saturday who placed at the regional a year ago and are nationally ranked among the top 12 are Dawson Collins of Colorado Mesa at 125, Nick James of Kearney at 141, Hunter Mullen of Western Colorado at 165, Austin Eldridge of Kearney at 174, Anderson Salisbury of Colorado Mines at 184 and Lee Herrington of Kearney at heavyweight.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Eldridge finished fourth last year, Collins, James and Herrington placed fifth and Mullen and Salisbury, seventh.&nbsp; In addition, Mesa’s Ryan Wheeler was third at 157 last year, is competing at 149 this year, has been injured and is not ranked among the top 12.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Herrington was the highest ranked heavyweight much of this winter, but is third on the latest list.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Chadron State Coach Brett Hunter believes his team will score more points this year than the 48 it earned last year and thinks the Eagles will have more than one national qualifier like they had a year ago.&nbsp; He added that five or six of his grapplers should be seated among the top four in their weight classes.

The only CSC entry at the 2022 National Tournament was Ethan Leake at 141. He finished second to James as the regional showdown. &nbsp;At nationals, Leake had the misfortune of drawing Zeth Brower of Lander University in the first round. Brower won 5-2, went on to win the weight class and is ranked &nbsp;No. 1 at 141 again this year.

Some 110 matches will take place prior to the finals that are slated to begin at 5 o’clock to decide who advances to the Division II National Championships to be hosted by Upper Iowa University at Cedar Falls on March 10 and 11.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Eleven teams will be competing at the regional showdown.&nbsp; They are from the seven RMAC schools that have wrestling teams, as well as conference affiliate San Francisco State, along with Nebraska-Kearney, Fort Hays State of Kansas and Simon Fraser University from British Columbia.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; While winning the regional team championship is a prestigious honor, most coaches would likely say sending a van load of hungry wrestlers to nationals is more important.&nbsp; At stake are 30 qualifying slots to the Division II National Tournament&nbsp; March 10 and 11.&nbsp; Three qualifiers will come from each of the 10 weights.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Chadron State previously hosted the regional showdown in 1997 and 2013.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Kearney is the defending Super Regional VI champion and went on to win the national title by a wide margin last year, when eight Lopers placed among the top five there.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Kearney is fifth in the 2023 team rankings entering the six Super Regionals this weekend.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Central Oklahoma leads this year’s latest poll, followed by Lander of South Carolina, St. Cloud State of Minnesota and West Liberty of West Virginia.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Besides UNK at No. 5, also ranked among the top 25 teams are 7, Adams State; 13, Western Colorado; 14, Fort Hays; and Chadron State, tied for 19th.&nbsp; Both Colorado Mesa and Colorado Mines also have strong teams and are apt to have some national qualifiers and shake up the national poll.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Three Super Region 6 grapplers are No. 1 in the latest rankings, including Chadron State junior Quen Campbell.&nbsp; The junior from Tifton, Ga., had been ranked second much of the season, but moved to the top spot this week. He transferred to CSC from North Iowa Area Community College last fall and has a 14-1 record.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Campbell is tall and wiry.&nbsp; His most recent match was one of his closest. He got a late takedown and won 4-3 over Collin Metzgar of Colorado Mesa when they met on Feb. 11 in Chadron.&nbsp; Metzgar will be among Campbell’s challengers Saturday. He’s ranked ninth at 133.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The other top ranked individuals from Super 6 are Noah Hermosillo of Adams State at 157 and Billy Higgins of Kearney at 184. Both were regional winners last year, Hermosillo at 149 and Higgins at 184.&nbsp; Hermosillo emerged as a national champion and Higgins finished third.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Others expected to compete Saturday who placed at the regional a year ago and are nationally ranked among the top 12 are Dawson Collins of Colorado Mesa at 125, Nick James of Kearney at 141, Hunter Mullen of Western Colorado at 165, Austin Eldridge of Kearney at 174, Anderson Salisbury of Colorado Mines at 184 and Lee Herrington of Kearney at heavyweight.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Eldridge finished fourth last year, Collins, James and Herrington placed fifth and Mullen and Salisbury, seventh.&nbsp; In addition, Mesa’s Ryan Wheeler was third at 157 last year, is competing at 149 this year, has been injured and is not ranked among the top 12.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Herrington was the highest ranked heavyweight much of this winter, but is third on the latest list.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Chadron State Coach Brett Hunter believes his team will score more points this year than the 48 it earned last year and thinks the Eagles will have more than one national qualifier like they had a year ago.&nbsp; He added that five or six of his grapplers should be seated among the top four in their weight classes.The only CSC entry at the 2022 National Tournament was Ethan Leake at 141. He finished second to James as the regional showdown. &nbsp;At nationals, Leake had the misfortune of drawing Zeth Brower of Lander University in the first round. NCAA Super Region IV Wrestling Tournament at CSC Saturday

&nbsp; CHADRON, Neb. --&nbsp; Black Hills State outscored CSC 18-7 in the third quarter, leading them to a 60-49 victory on senior night in the Chicoine Center Thursday. The loss ends the Eagles season at 4-24 overall and 4-18 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets improve to 22-6 overall and 17-5 in conference play. Senior&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/riley-aiono/8392">Riley Aiono</a>&nbsp;scored a layup to give the Eagles a 4-2 lead in the first quarter but Yellow Jacket Megan Engesser answered 14 seconds later with a three pointer which gave her team the lead for the remainder of the game. Black Hills State led by 6 points at half and extended their lead to 17 by the end of the third quarter. &nbsp; CSC opened the final period with a 10-0 scoring run to drop the visitors lead to seven but were unable to overcome the 17-point deficit. &nbsp; Aiono was joined by&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/ashayla-powers/4644">Ashayla Powers</a>&nbsp;to lead the Eagles with nine points apiece. Another senior,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/samiyah-worrell/8407">Samiyah Worrell</a>&nbsp;of Fountain, Colorado, finished with eight points and a game high 10 rebounds. She also added a game high six assists. Niki Van Wyk and Danica Kocer both scored 11 points for the visitors. Van Wyk and Kalla Bertram finished with seven rebounds to lead their team. The first was a dunk after he'd taken a handoff from teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/josh-robinson/8517">Josh Robinson</a>&nbsp;as they converged beneath the basket. The coach was not happy with some of the Eagles play in the first half. &nbsp;He said they had transition problems while the Yellow Jackets went on a 12-0 run that included three fast break baskets and had a 29-18 lead midway in the half. About five minutes later, the Eagles went on an 11-3 spurt that included 3-pointers by Wyatt and Jefferson to help cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to 44-41 at halftime.&nbsp; &nbsp; Neither team ever led by more than four points in the second half when six of the ties and 13 of the lead changes occurred. The coach was not happy with some of the Eagles play in the first half. &nbsp;He said they had transition problems while the Yellow Jackets went on a 12-0 run that included three fast break baskets and had a 29-18 lead midway in the half. About five minutes later, the Eagles went on an 11-3 spurt that included 3-pointers by Wyatt and Jefferson to help cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to 44-41 at halftime.&nbsp; &nbsp; Neither team ever led by more than four points in the second half when six of the ties and 13 of the lead changes occurred. &nbsp; GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. --&nbsp; The Chadron State Women's Wrestling team came away with four individual qualifiers and a third place finish as a team at the NCWWC Region V Tournament in Grand Junction, Colorado on Sunday, February 19. The four qualifiers,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/kinsey-smith/8390">Kinsey Smith</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/isabell-ortiz/8586">Isabell Ortiz</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/kayley-garcia/8579">Kayley Garcia</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/kamila-montenegro/8389">Kamila Montenegro</a>&nbsp;helped the Eagles score 123.5 team points. CSC's lone champion and first regional champion in school history,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/kayley-garcia/8579">Kayley Garcia</a>, defeated three wrestlers on her way to the 143-pound title. After a first-round bye, Garcia, a freshman from Vista, California, earned her lone pin of the day in 2:31 against Diriann Porras from University of the Ozarks. In the semi-finals, the freshman defeated Celine Cooke of Colorado Mesa 10-0. Another Colorado Mesa opponent in Erica Schroeder met Garcia in the finals. The champion ended her day with another tech fall, this time 11-0. Smith, a senior from Windsor, Colorado, had a first-round bye which earned herself a spot in the semifinals. The 101-pound champion, Jennesis Martinez of Colorado Mesa, pinned Smith in 2:43. In the first round of the 101-pound bracket, Isabella Morales of Colorado Mesa defeated&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/britley-lopez/8582">Britley Lopez</a>&nbsp;of Chadron State, creating a matchup of Eagles in the loser bracket. Smith defeated her teammate with a 10-0 TF before earning fourth place after being defeated by Odelia Lopez of Schreiner University. <a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/isabell-ortiz/8586">Isabell Ortiz</a>&nbsp;recorded a first-round pin in 1:54 over Carisa Epling of Colorado Mesa. The freshman from Lakin, Kansas earned a matchup with Ivy Threatful from Simon Fraser in the semifinals. Threatful earned a 11-6 decision over Ortiz. Ortiz answered her lone defeat of the day with back to back falls to receive third place in the 116-pound bracket. She defeated Mercedes Nerios of Texas Women's University in 4:06 before defeating Jaia Ashley of Schreiner in 5:28. Montenegro received silver in the 170-pound bracket. After a first-round bye, she won a 10-6 decision over Samantha Vasquez from Colorado Mesa. The junior from Las Vegas, Nevada, pinned Aubrey Yauger of Texas Women's University in 4:55 before losing in the championship to Emily Cue. &nbsp;&nbsp; Four Eagles finished fifth in the tournament, falling one spot short of being a national qualifier. The four Eagles qualifying for nationals will be back in action March 3-4 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Chadron State qualifies 4 for National Women's Wrestling Championships

&nbsp; Chadron State College's "Mr. Quick,"&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/bryce-latimer/8513">Bryce Latimer</a>, tallied 43 points Tuesday night while bringing the Eagles from behind to win 85-76 over South Dakota Mines in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game in Chadron. The win was the Eagles' 10th&nbsp;in 11 games, giving them an 18-9 season record and a 15-6 RMAC mark.&nbsp; Mines is 9-18 and 8-13. Latimer, a 5-10 dynamo who comes off the bench, scored 15 points while playing that many minutes in the first half, then poured in 28 points in 16 minutes in the second half.&nbsp;He's the first Chadron State male basketball player to score 40 or more points in a game this century and his 43 points ties him for fifth on the Eagles' all-time single game list. The Stone Mountain, Ga., native was 13 of 19 from the field, including four of seven on 3-pointers range, and made 13 of 14 free throws. The Hardrockers tried to guard him. He was fouled 10 times, usually while driving to the basket for a short jumper or a layup. This was the first time in the Eagles' 27 games this winter that he has attempted and made so many 3-pointers. He'd made just 10 treys entering the game. The Eagles needed Latimer's boost off the bench. It was the Hardrockers' Alejandro Rama, a dynamic player in his own right, who lit things up early.&nbsp; The 6-foot-1 Red Cloud High graduate opened the game by hitting six consecutive 3-point shots as Mines took a 30-17 lead midway in the half.&nbsp; Boosted by Latimer's 15 points, the Eagles finally gnawed at the Hardrockers' lead and trailed by only 44-39 at halftime. While the margin was never greater than seven points and was a single point on three occasions, the South Dakota visitors remained ahead the first 14 minutes of the second half. It was a Latimer 3-pointer that put the Eagles on top 66-65 with six minutes remaining.&nbsp; That turned out to be the game's only lead change. The Eagles certainly never ran away and hid.&nbsp; CSC's advantage was just 75-72 with 1:26 to play after the Hardrockers' Kolten Mortensen hit a 3-pointer.&nbsp; Latimer then drove for one of his layups, did something of a double clutch while he was in the air, and made the shot to give the Eagles a 77-72 cushion with 56 seconds to play. After Mines failed to score on its ensuing possession, Latimer made two sets of free throws and his teammates tacked on four more points in the final 16 seconds. Both teams had four players reach double figures. While Latimer scored a bit more than half of his team's points,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/isaiah-wyatt/8518">Isaiah Wyatt</a>&nbsp;added 15 and both&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/marcus-jefferson/4653">Marcus Jefferson</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/josh-robinson/8517">Josh Robinson</a>&nbsp;netted 11.&nbsp; Robinson also grabbed a game high 14 rebounds, giving him his ninth double-double this season. CSC Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/shane-paben/551">Shane Paben</a>&nbsp;also commended Robinson for containing Rama in the second half. Both Rama and forward Brevin Walter finished with 24 points, Keagan Smith added 15 and Mortensen 11. Walter was the only Mines player to go to the free throw line, where he was seven of eight. The Eagles shot exactly 50% from the field in each half, going 15 of 30 in the first 20 minutes and 13 of 26 in the second.&nbsp; Mines was 18 of 29 in the opening half for 62%, 12 of 38 in the second half for 42.9% and 52.6% for the game.&nbsp; Both teams had eight turnovers.&nbsp; The Eagles are due to host Black Hills State on Thursday night for both teams' final regular season game &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;S.D.  </figure>BY: CON MARSHALL CSC Sports Information&nbsp; Chadron State College's "Mr. Quick,"&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/bryce-latimer/8513">Bryce Latimer</a>, tallied 43 points Tuesday night while bringing the Eagles from behind to win 85-76 over South Dakota Mines in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game in Chadron. The win was the Eagles' 10th&nbsp;in 11 games, giving them an 18-9 season record and a 15-6 RMAC mark.&nbsp; Mines is 9-18 and 8-13. Latimer, a 5-10 dynamo who comes off the bench, scored 15 points while playing that many minutes in the first half, then poured in 28 points in 16 minutes in the second half.&nbsp;He's the first Chadron State male basketball player to score 40 or more points in a game this century and his 43 points ties him for fifth on the Eagles' all-time single game list. The Stone Mountain, Ga., native was 13 of 19 from the field, including four of seven on 3-pointers range, and made 13 of 14 free throws. The Hardrockers tried to guard him. He was fouled 10 times, usually while driving to the basket for a short jumper or a layup. This was the first time in the Eagles' 27 games this winter that he has attempted and made so many 3-pointers. He'd made just 10 treys entering the game. The Eagles needed Latimer's boost off the bench. It was the Hardrockers' Alejandro Rama, a dynamic player in his own right, who lit things up early.&nbsp; The 6-foot-1 Red Cloud High graduate opened the game by hitting six consecutive 3-point shots as Mines took a 30-17 lead midway in the half.&nbsp; Boosted by Latimer's 15 points, the Eagles finally gnawed at the Hardrockers' lead and trailed by only 44-39 at halftime. While the margin was never greater than seven points and was a single point on three occasions, the South Dakota visitors remained ahead the first 14 minutes of the second half. It was a Latimer 3-pointer that put the Eagles on top 66-65 with six minutes remaining.&nbsp; That turned out to be the game's only lead change. The Eagles certainly never ran away and hid.&nbsp; CSC's advantage was just 75-72 with 1:26 to play after the Hardrockers' Kolten Mortensen hit a 3-pointer.&nbsp; Latimer then drove for one of his layups, did something of a double clutch while he was in the air, and made the shot to give the Eagles a 77-72 cushion with 56 seconds to play. After Mines failed to score on its ensuing possession, Latimer made two sets of free throws and his teammates tacked on four more points in the final 16 seconds. Both teams had four players reach double figures. While Latimer scored a bit more than half of his team's points,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/isaiah-wyatt/8518">Isaiah Wyatt</a>&nbsp;added 15 and both&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/marcus-jefferson/4653">Marcus Jefferson</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/josh-robinson/8517">Josh Robinson</a>&nbsp;netted 11.&nbsp; Robinson also grabbed a game high 14 rebounds, giving him his ninth double-double this season. CSC Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/shane-paben/551">Shane Paben</a>&nbsp;also commended Robinson for containing Rama in the second half. Both Rama and forward Brevin Walter finished with 24 points, Keagan Smith added 15 and Mortensen 11. Walter was the only Mines player to go to the free throw line, where he was seven of eight. The Eagles shot exactly 50% from the field in each half, going 15 of 30 in the first 20 minutes and 13 of 26 in the second.&nbsp; Mines was 18 of 29 in the opening half for 62%, 12 of 38 in the second half for 42.9% and 52.6% for the game.&nbsp; Both teams had eight turnovers.&nbsp; The Eagles are due to host Black Hills State on Thursday night for both teams' final regular season game &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;S.D. Latimer dazzles with 43 points in CSC victory Tuesday

The revitalized Chadron State College men’s basketball team gave a great effort, but had its nine-game winning streak ended Saturday night when the Colorado Mines Orediggers won 78-74 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference clash in Golden.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Certainly the Eagles wanted to win the game, but it’s not the end of the line for them. They have two home games remaining this coming week, and after winning more games than any other Chadron State team in more than 20 years, they have clinched a berth in the conference playoffs where they’ll tangle with Mines again or another of the RMAC’s elite teams.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; There were five ties and nine lead changes Saturday night.&nbsp; The Orediggers took the lead for keeps at 59-57 after their top scorer, Brendan Sullivan, made three throws with 7:14 remaining.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;The hosts went ahead by eight points twice down the stretch, but the Eagles kept battling and were down by only two points three times in the final 70 seconds.&nbsp; Four free throws by the Orediggers in the last nine seconds allowed them to keep the lead while running out the clock.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Eagles shot 43.8% from the field, making 28 of 64 shots, their lowest since their winning streak began on Jan. 14, even though forward Josh Robinson was 13 of 17 from the field while tallying a game-high and career-high 31 points. He also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Senior guard Marcus Jefferson was CSC’s only other double-digit scorer with 10 points.

Sophomore guard Kendra Parra tallied 24 points while leading the Metro State women’s basketball team to a 64-53 win over Chadron State in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest in Denver on Friday night.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Parra, who entered the game averaging almost 19 points a game, was seven of 10 from the field, including four-of-five from 3-point range, and made all six of her free throws.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Brooklynn Jones also reached double figures for Metro by making four of 10 three-pointers for 12 points.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Chadron State was led by Shay Powers with 11 points, about six points below her season average, but the 5-10 forward registered a double-double by grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.&nbsp; Redshirt freshman Claudia Dollinger added nine points and collected eight rebounds. Senior Samiyah Worrell chipped in eight points. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Chadron State, which defeated the Roadrunners 77-70 when the teams met in Chadron on New Year’s Eve, led 20-18 through the first quarter Friday night and trailed by only 33-31 at halftime.&nbsp; However, the Eagles were outscored 20-8 in the third frame to fall behind 53-39 and could never fully recover.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; For the game, Metro shot 37.5% from the field and the Eagles 26.8%.&nbsp; With Parra and Jones each making four 3-pointers, the hosts were eight of 26 from behind the arc.&nbsp; CSC was three of 15 from long range, but was 18 of 26 at the free throw line and Metro 14-17.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Metro is now 11-8 in the RMAC and is likely to be among the eight teams to make the conference playoffs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;The CSC women will play at Colorado Mines on Saturday night and then host South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State next Wednesday and Thursday night to wrap up the season.&nbsp;

BY: Con MARSHALL CSC Sports InformationSophomore guard Kendra Parra tallied 24 points while leading the Metro State women’s basketball team to a 64-53 win over Chadron State in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest in Denver on Friday night.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Parra, who entered the game averaging almost 19 points a game, was seven of 10 from the field, including four-of-five from 3-point range, and made all six of her free throws.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Brooklynn Jones also reached double figures for Metro by making four of 10 three-pointers for 12 points.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Chadron State was led by Shay Powers with 11 points, about six points below her season average, but the 5-10 forward registered a double-double by grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.&nbsp; Redshirt freshman Claudia Dollinger added nine points and collected eight rebounds.
