NEW YORK — Tim McCarver, the All-Star catcher and Hall of Fame 
broadcaster who during 60 years in baseball won two World Series titles 
with the St. Louis Cardinals and had a long run as the one of the 
country's most recognized, incisive and talkative television 
commentators, died Thursday. He was 81.

McCarver's death was 
announced by baseball's Hall of Fame, which said he died Thursday 
morning due to heart failure in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was with 
his family.

Among the few players to appear in major league games 
during four decades, McCarver was a two-time All Star who worked closely
 with two future Hall of Fame pitchers: The tempestuous Bob Gibson, whom
 McCarver caught for St. Louis in the 1960s, and the introverted Steve 
Carlton, McCarver's fellow Cardinal in the '60s and a Philadelphia 
Phillies teammate in the 1970s.

He switched to television soon 
after retiring in 1980 and called 24 World Series for ABC, CBS and Fox, a
 record for a baseball analyst on television.

“I think there is a 
natural bridge from being a catcher to talking about the view of the 
game and the view of the other players,” McCarver told the Hall in 2012,
 the year he and Joe Buck were given the Ford C. Frick Award for 
excellence in broadcasting. “It is translating that for the viewers. One
 of the hard things about television is staying contemporary and keeping
 it simple for the viewers.”

McCarver became best known to 
national audiences for his 18-year partnership on Fox with play-by-play 
man Buck. McCarver moved to Fox in 1996 when it began televising 
baseball and called his final World Series in 2013.

“I learned 
really fast that if you were in his inner circle, he would be a fierce 
defender of you and for you,” Buck said Thursday. "He taught me how to 
deal with criticism because he had been criticized, his whole broadcast 
career. And sometimes it was because he was a teacher of the game. If 
some player or manager didn’t manage or play the way he thought the game
 should be played, he let a national audience know it. He was always the
 first one in the clubhouse the next day. If that person had something 
to say back to him, he would engage and stood his ground, but it was 
fair.

“He taught me a lot about the game, but he taught me as much or more about how to broadcast on a on a national level.”

Commissioner
 Rob Manfred said in a statement that McCarver was “a respected teammate
 and one of the most influential voices our game has known.”

Six 
feet tall and solidly built, McCarver was a policeman’s son from 
Memphis, who got into more than a few fights while growing up but was 
otherwise playing baseball and football and imitating popular 
broadcasters, notably the Cardinals’ Harry Caray. He was signed while 
still in high school by the Cardinals for $75,000, a generous offer for 
that time; just 17 when he debuted for them in 1959 and in his early 20s
 when he became the starting catcher.

McCarver attended segregated
 schools in Memphis and often spoke of the education he received as a 
newcomer in St. Louis. His teammates included Gibson and outfielder Curt
 Flood, Black players who did not hesitate to confront or tease 
McCarver. When McCarver used racist language against a Black child 
trying to jump a fence during spring training, Gibson would remember 
“getting right up in McCarver’s face.” McCarver liked to tell the story 
about drinking an orange soda during a hot day in spring training and 
Gibson asking him for some, then laughing when McCarver flinched.

“It
 was probably Gibby more than any other Black man who helped me to 
overcome whatever latent prejudices I may have had,” McCarver wrote in 
his 1987 memoir “Oh, Baby, I Love It!”

Few catchers were strong 
hitters during the ’60s, but McCarver batted .270 or higher for five 
consecutive seasons and was fast enough to become the first in his 
position to lead the league in triples. He had his best year in 1967 
when he hit .295 with 14 home runs, finishing second for NL Most 
Valuable Player behind teammate Orlando Cepeda as the Cardinals won 
their second World Series in four years.

McCarver met Carlton when
 the left-hander was a rookie in 1965 “with an independent streak wider 
than the Grand Canyon,” McCarver later wrote. The two initially clashed,
 even arguing on the mound during games, but became close and were 
reunited in the 1970s after both were traded to Philadelphia. McCarver 
became Carlton’s designated catcher even though he admittedly had a 
below average throwing arm and overall didn’t compare defensively to the
 Phillies’ regular catcher, Gold Glover Bob Boone.

“Behind every 
successful pitcher, there has to be a very smart catcher, and Tim 
McCarver is that man,” Carlton said during his Hall of Fame induction 
speech in 1994. “Timmy forced me pitch inside. Early in my career I was 
reluctant to pitch inside. Timmy had a way to remedy this. He used to 
set up behind the hitter. There was just the umpire there; I couldn’t 
see him (McCarver), so I was forced to pitch inside.”

McCarver 
liked to joke that he and Carlton were so in synch in the field that 
when both were dead they would be buried 60 feet, 6 inches apart, the 
distance between the rubber on the pitching mound and home plate.

During
 a 21-year career, when he also played briefly for the Montreal Expos 
and Boston Red Sox, McCarver batted .271 and only twice struck out more 
than 40 times in a season. In the postseason, he averaged .273 and had 
his best outing in the 1964 World Series, when the Cardinals defeated 
the New York Yankees in seven games. McCarver finished 11 for 23, with 
five walks, and his 3-run homer at Yankee Stadium in the 10th inning of 
Game 5 gave his team a 5-2 victory.

Younger baseball fans first 
knew him from his work in the broadcast booth, whether local games for 
the New York Mets, Yankees, Philadelphia and San Francisco, as Jack 
Buck’s partner on CBS (1990-91) or with son Joe Buck for Fox from 
1996-2013. McCarver won six Emmys and became enough of a brand name to 
be a punchline on “Family Guy”; write a handful of books, make cameos in
 “Naked Gun,” “Love Hurts” and other movies and even record an album, 
“Tim McCarver Sings Songs from the Great American Songbook.”

Knowledge
 was his trademark. In his spare time, he visited art museums, read 
books and could recite poetry from memory. At work, he was like a 
one-man scouting team, versed in the most granular details, and spent 
hours preparing before each game. At times, he seemed to have psychic 
powers. In Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, the score was tied at 2 
between the Yankees and Arizona, and New York drew in its infield with 
the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth. Mariano Rivera 
was facing Luis Rodriquez.

“Rivera throws inside to left-handers,”
 McCarver observed. “Left-handers get a lot of broken-bat hits into 
shallow outfield, the shallow part of the outfield. That’s the danger of
 bringing the infield in with a guy like Rivera on the mound.”

Moments later, Gonzalez’s bloop to short center field drove in the winning run.

“When
 you the consider the pressure of the moment,” ESPN’s Keith Olbermann 
told The New York Times in 2002, “the time he had to say it and the 
accuracy, his call was the sports-announcing equivalent of Bill 
Mazeroski’s home run in the seventh inning to defeat the Yankees in 
1960.”

Many found McCarver informative and entertaining. Others 
thought him infuriating. McCarver did not cut himself short whether 
explaining baseball strategy or taking on someone’s performance on the 
field. “When you ask him the time, (he) will tell you how a watch 
works,” Sports Illustrated’s Norm Chad wrote of him in 1992. The same 
year his criticism of Deion Sanders for playing two sports on the same 
day led to Atlanta outfielder/Falcons defensive back’s dumping a bucket 
of water on his head. In 1999, McCarver was fired by the Mets after 16 
seasons on the air.

The Mets said in a statement that McCarver 
gave Mets an insightful, humorous and knowledgeable behind the scenes 
look into the game.

“Some broadcasters think that their 
responsibility is to the team and the team only,” McCarver told the 
Times soon after the Mets let him go. “I have never thought that. My No.
 1 obligation is to the people who are watching the game. And I’ve 
always felt that praise without objective criticism ceases to be praise.
 To me, any intelligent person can figure that out.”

After 
retiring from Fox's national broadcasts, McCarver announced part-time 
for Fox Sports Midwest and worked the occasional Cardinals game before 
sitting out the 2020 season because of concerns about COVID-19. Besides 
the Frick award, he was inducted into the Cardinals Hall of Fame, in 
2017.

“By the time I was 26 I had played in three World Series and
 I thought, ’Man this is great, almost a World Series every year,” he 
said during his acceptance speech. “Uh-uh. The game has a way of keeping
 you honest. I never played in another World Series.”

McCarver is survived by his daughters Kathy and Kelley, and grandchildren Leigh and Beau.

Freshman Juliana Aragon scored 26 points Friday night while leading New Mexico Highlands to a 73-65 win over Chadron State in a women’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference basketball game played on the Cowgirls’ court.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Highlands got its final eight-point margin at the free throw line.&nbsp; Both teams made 25 field goals, including three 3-pointers apiece.&nbsp; But Highlands was 20-of-28 at the charity stripe and the Eagles were 12-of-17.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Aragon made nine of 11 free throws and teammate Delani Harris was seven-of-nine while scoring 15 points, the Cowgirls’ second-high total.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; There were five ties and 10 lead changes in the first half.&nbsp; The Eagles were ahead 17-15 when the first quarter ended after freshman point guard Kyra Tanabe grabbed a defensive rebound, drove the length of the floor lickety-split and nailed a 3-pointer as time was expiring.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Seven of Highlands’ 15 points in the first frame came on seven of eight shooting at the free throw line.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Cowgirls outscored the Eagles 20-13 in the second quarter to take a 35-30 halftime lead and were ahead the rest of the way.&nbsp; Aragon’s basket with four minutes left in the third gave her 19 of her team’s 49 points and a nine-point lead.

The Eagles cut the difference to a single point on Shay Powers’ jumper in the paint with 75 seconds left in the third frame, but CSC could never get the lead.&nbsp;

The New Mexico team went ahead 70-57 with five minutes remaining. The Eagles scored the next eight points to draw within five with 65 seconds to play. But CSC didn’t score again and the Cowgirls made three of six free shots down the stretch to seal the verdict.

Senior guard Samiyah Worrell led the Eagles with 15 points, Powers scored 14 while playing just 23 of the 40 minutes because of foul trouble.&nbsp; She fouled out in the final minute. Tanabe finished with 10 points and both Allison Olsen and Claudia Dollinger added nine.

Of all the games the Chadron State College men’s basketball teams have played this century, perhaps none of them have been more dramatic than the Eagles’ 89-85 overtime victory at Colorado State-Pueblo in Pueblo on Saturday night.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After winning all but one of previous seven games during their now eight-game winning streak by at least 12 points, this one was a nail-biter all way.&nbsp;

The Eagles were behind on the scoreboard for more than 30 of the 40 minutes during regulation play, and had to come from seven points down in the final two minutes to knot the score at 75-75 so it would go into overtime. They finally sealed the verdict when team captain Marcus Jefferson made four free throws in the last four seconds of the extra session.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Now 16-8 for the season and 13-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the Eagles had trailed for 17 minutes in the first half before going on an 11-2 run that gave them a 42-35 halftime lead. The rally was capped by a long 3-pointer at the buzzer by guard Bryce Latimer, nearly always the smallest and always the quickest player on the court.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The clutch shot gave Latimer 11 points at halftime. He then scored 15 in the second half and another six in overtime to give him a game-high 32. His output included the two final baskets of the second half. Both were driving layups, the last one with only a second left on the clock.

Strong second half sends Eagles to 7th straight win

After trailing by as many as 11 points and never leading in the first half, the Chadron State College men’s basketball finally tied the score at 31-31 just before halftime, then dominated the second half by a 45-23 margin to win 76-54 while playing at New Mexico Highlands on Friday night

The win was the seventh in a row for the Eagles, who are now 15-8 for the season and 12-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Eagles seemed lethargic early in the game, scoring only seven points in the first seven minutes. They shot just 42% (13-31) in the opening half, but made up for lost time in the second half while hitting 65.5% (19-29).

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Highlands employed several defensive strategies, including a full-court press in the second half, but the Nebraska visitors coached by Shane Paben used speed and teamwork to continually build their lead.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Five Eagles scored in double figures.&nbsp; Josh Robinson led with 18 points, Porter Anderson scored 17, Marcus Jefferson 15, Bryce Latimer 14 and Isaiah Wyatt 12.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Highlands shot right at 38% from the field in both halves, but after making seven of 17 three-point shots in the opening half, was zero of nine from behind the arc in the second half.

The Colorado School of Mines wrestlers won six of the 10 matches while winning a dual with Chadron State College 26-18 in Golden on Thursday night.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Eagles won the first two matches to take a 9-0 lead.

&nbsp; Yusef Nelson, normally a backup at 125 pounds for the Eagles, had a 4-2 lead over Christian Lopez midway in the second period when the Oredigger was injured and could not continue, giving the visitors a 6-0 lead.

Next, the Eagles’ Quen Campbell, who is ranked second at 133 pounds in NCAA II, won a 5-0 decision to boost his record to 13-1 for the season.

Chadron State’s other winners were Brody Lamb at 157 pounds and Mason Watt at heavyweight.

Bolstered by a takedown and four nearfall points in the second quarter, Lamb took an 11-9 decision over Carter Noehre at 157 pounds.&nbsp; Watt pinned his foe, Deandre Rucker, halfway through the first period to conclude the action.

Lamb has now won five consecutive matches since recovering from an injury and taking over the 157-pound weight class for during the second semester. Watt improved his record to 13-3 for the season.

Two of the Eagles’ losses were by extremely narrow margins.&nbsp; The first was at 149 pounds, where CSC’s Brandon Paredes was edged 4-3 by Teague Dilbeck 4-3 on a riding time point.&nbsp; The second was at 165, where Preston Renner lost 4-2 when he was taken down in overtime by Tristin David.

Chadron State now has a 7-7 dual record.&nbsp; The Eagles will take on Colorado Mesa at 11 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 11) in the Chicoine Center. The Mavericks defeated Colorado Mines 26-12 when they tangled last Friday in Golden.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Chadron State will face two new teams Friday as the squad moves through a busy opening weekend schedule in Texas at the Lubbock Sports College Invitational.

The Eagles are scheduled to face Minot State at 1:00 and Texas Permian Basin at 3:00 Friday, the fourth and fifth games of the young season.&nbsp; Minot is off to a great start at 4-0 and will play Emporia State in its first game of the event before its match-up with&nbsp; CSC. UTPB blasted five home runs in an 11-1 win over Adams State last Sunday and will face the Grizzlies again in Lubbock today before the match-up with Chadron State.

The Eagles (1-2) enter the day after a doubleheader split with Eastern New Mexico on Wednesday to open their Lubbock journey.&nbsp; The Greyhounds broke open a 1-0 game in CSC's season opener with an 11-run fifth inning to close a 12-0 win.&nbsp; Brooke Leger held the CSC offense to one hit, a bunt single by Aliyah Rothstein in the third inning.

Chadron State fended off a late Greyhound rally to hold on and win a 7-6 decision in Game Two. Hits from Lauren Zimmerman and Sloane Quijas gave CSC a 3-2 lead in the third, and Mackenzi Kroll doubled in a pair for a 5-3 lead, which eventually grew to 7-3 by the fifth inning.&nbsp; EMNU scored three in the sixth on three singles but a ground out with two runners on base in the seventh ended the rally.

Thursday the Eagles dropped a 3-0 contest to #21 Lubbock Christian.&nbsp; Delaney Farnsworth pitched six innings and kept LCU in check offensively, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out five.&nbsp; However CSC's bats stayed quiet and produced just two hits along with nine K's.&nbsp;

Chadron State will get a second shot to upset Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon following a 10:00 morning start against Emporia State.&nbsp; The Eagles conclude their visit to Lubbock on Sunday with a morning game against UTPB.

This is the only non-conference segment of&nbsp; the schedule in 2023 for CSC.&nbsp; RMAC play begins on February 18 at pre-season favorites Colorado Christian.&nbsp; The Eagles home opener is March 4 against Fort Lewis.

🥎 CSC Softball continues season opening series in Texas

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Jett Howard made six 3-pointers and scored 22 points, Hunter Dickinson had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Michigan beat Nebraska 93-72 on Wednesday night.

Nebraska, which trailed by 24 points in the first half, got within 48-39 early in the second half — the closest margin since 21-12. But Dickinson answered with a basket to put Michigan ahead by double digits for the rest of the game.

Howard made four 3-pointers in the second half and scored 16 points, and Dickinson added 14 points. Michigan led for over 36 minutes and shot 57.6% from the field, including 14 of 26 from 3-point range.

Dug McDaniel added 14 points, Kobe Bufkin had 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Michigan (14-10, 8-5 Big Ten). Joey Baker added 11 points and Terrance Williams II scored 10.

Michigan scored 14 unanswered points in the first half and later extended it to 41-17 after a 16-2 run, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers by Baker. Nebraska rallied to get within 46-34 at the break after closing on a 17-5 run.

Keisei Tominaga scored 24 points and Derrick Walker had 15 points, seven rebounds and eight assists for Nebraska (11-14, 4-10). Tominaga scored 13 of Nebraska’s opening 27 points.

Michigan looks for its fourth straight win on Saturday against No. 18 Indiana. Nebraska goes for its second win in seven games when it hosts Wisconsin on Saturday.

The Alliance Spartans Baseball Team announced some exciting news last week.&nbsp; First...The Spartans will have a new Corporate Sponsor starting this season.&nbsp; Peltz Companies of Alliance has taken over as the main sponsor and the team will now be called The Peltz Company Alliance Spartans.&nbsp; The Peltz name will appear on Uniforms, programs and any advertizing done with the Spartan team. 

The second big announcement came from the Nebraska American Legion Baseball Committee, That Alliance has been chosen to host the Class B, Junior State Tournament in 2023.&nbsp; The Junior State Tournament will be held July 15-19 at Bower/Shankland Field in Alliance.&nbsp;

Emmery Wagstaff, the daughter of&nbsp; Garth Wagstaff, a Chadron State College wrestler in the early 1990s, poured in a career-high 35 points while leading the Western Colorado Mountaineers to a 62-54 victory over the Lady Eagles in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference basketball game in Chadron on Thursday night.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A 5-foot-7 super senior from Evanston, Wyo., Wagstaff tallied 23 points in the first half when the visitors built a 35-18 lead that proved to be insurmountable for the hosts.&nbsp;

The Eagles warmed up and Wagstaff cooled off in the second half, allowing Chadron State to cut the lead to 57-54 with 4:20 left to play.&nbsp; However, the Eagles failed to score again and Western added the game’s final five points.

Emmery’s father had a winning record and earned Academic All-American while competing for the CSC wrestlers in 1992-93 and 1993-94 after he’d previously wrestled at Northwest Wyoming College at Powell.&nbsp;&nbsp; She said 34 points was her most she scored as an all-state high school player and 33 was her previous college high.

She entered the game averaging 15.7 points this winter and scored 13 against the Eagles during Western’s 56-54 win in the game played Dec. 10 in Gunnison.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;This time against the Eagles, she was 12-of-23 from the field, including 6-of-11 on 3-pointers, and made five-of-seven free throws.&nbsp;&nbsp; Another Western Colorado player,&nbsp;Shannon Smart, is the all-time high scorer against the Eagles with 41 points in 1992-93.

For the second game in a row, the Eagles scored just seven points in the opening quarter as the Mountaineers took a nine-point lead. Wagstaff was especially hot in the second quarter, when she tallied 15 of her team’s 19 points.&nbsp;

Chadron State struggled again in the second quarter, scoring just 11 points, allowing Western to own a 35-18 halftime margin.&nbsp; The Eagles outscored the visitors 36-27 in the second half, but never completely caught up, even though Wagstaff was held to a dozen points while being defended by freshman Allison Olsen.

Sophomore standout Shay Powers led Chadron State’s second half surge by scoring 14 of her team-high 22 points. Seniors Samiyah Powers with 10 points and Riley Aiono with nine were the only other Eagles to score more than three.

For the game, the Eagles were 22-62 (35.5%), including going 0-14 from behind the arc.&nbsp; Western also made 22 field goals, but Wagstaff sank six treys and Rachel Cockman added one while accumulating 13 total points and also grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds, one more than Wagstaff.&nbsp;

Powers also was CSC’s top rebounder with seven.

Western is now 6-14 overall and 5-10 in the conference. The Eagles are 4-18 and 4-12. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Both Chadron State teams will be on the road the next two weekends before wrapping up the season at home Feb. 22 and 23 against South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State.

While breaking a 29-29 deadlock, the Chadron State College men’s basketball team went on a 16-2 run in the final five minutes and 20 seconds of the first half to lead 45-31 at intermission en route to defeating Western Colorado 87-72 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game in Chadron Thursday night.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The win was the sixth in a row for the Eagles, boosting their season record to 14-8 and their conference record to 11-5.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Chadron State led by as many as 28 points with 12 ½ minutes remaining, may have relaxed too much and was ahead by just nine with about three minutes remaining.&nbsp; However, the Eagles closed the game by posting the final six points.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Bryce Latimer, the 5-foot-10 super sub, led the winners with 25 points and also handed out 10 assists.&nbsp; Coach Shane Paben said if the RMAC gives a sixth-man award, Latimer should be the recipient.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After making nine of 12 field goal shots and going seven of eight at the free throw line Thursday night, Latimer has scored 97 points while making 37 of 56 (66%) of his shots from the field and going 23 of 25 at the charity stripe in the last four games.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Eagles also got 19 points from Isaiah Wyatt, who was five-of-nine from 3-point range; 13 points from Jarrett Taylor, who sank four treys for the second game in a row; and 11 points from Josh Robinson, who also was the game’s leading rebounder with 10.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Mountaineers also had a high scorer.&nbsp; Lanky senior Avery Rembao finished with 27 points, 20 of them in the opening half, including 15 of his team’s first 19 points.&nbsp; For the game, Rembao was 10- of-22 from the field, including three-of-eight from behind the arc and four-of-five at the line.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Rembao also tallied 33 points when the Eagles visited Western on Dec. 9 and won by an 81-70 score&nbsp;
