The University of Nebraska has fired head football coach Scott Frost.&nbsp; The announcement came Sunday morning after Nebraska lost 45-42,&nbsp; at home Saturday to Georgia Southern.&nbsp; The loss drops Nebraska's record to 1-2 in the 2022 season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;Nebraska Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/staff.aspx?staff=1497">Trev Alberts</a>&nbsp;released the following statement: "Earlier today I met with Coach Frost and informed him we were making a change in the leadership of our football program, effective immediately. Scott has poured his heart and soul into the Nebraska football program both as a quarterback and head coach, and I appreciate his work and dedication. "After the disappointing start to our season, I decided the best path forward for our program was to make a change in our head coaching position. Associate Head Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/coaches.aspx?rc=8340">Mickey Joseph</a>&nbsp;will serve as our interim head coach for the remainder of the 2022 season."&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nebraska will host Oklahoma on Saturday, September 17.&nbsp; Kick-off is scheduled for 10 am,&nbsp; MT&nbsp; with national television coverage on FOX.&nbsp; Radio coverage will begin at 6 am MT on KCOW 1400 am and 92.5 fm.

The Eagles improved to 3-7 and 1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Cowgirls fell to 3-7 with losses in their only two league matches. After dropping the first set, the Eagles won the next three to secure their third win on the season. The Eagles relied on their defense, registering 10 total blocks as team. They were led by sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8436">Amber Harvey</a>&nbsp;with 3 on the night. Senior&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4339">Abby Schaefer</a>&nbsp;had 21 digs to continue her solid year defensively. The offense was also on the attack when needed with a hitting percentage of .218, and a total of 52 kills led by sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8433">Aiyana Fujiyama</a>, and freshman Bella Adamas with 12. Anissa Hernandez carried the Cowgirls with 13 total kills. After the first set, the Eagles opened up the second set trading blows with the Cowgirls, but closed the set on a 5-1 run. The momentum never stopped for the Eagles. They only allowed the Cowgirls to take the lead one other time through the entire match, and that was to open the fourth set. During the third set, the Eagles opened up on a 7-3 run, but allowed the Cowgirls to get close by tying it at 13-13. However, the Eagles pulled out another 7-3 run to propel them towards a win to go up 2-1 on the night. The momentum the Eagles created at the end of third set carried into the fourth where they opened up with 10-3 lead. The Eagles never let the Cowgirls have a chance to get back in the match as they ended up winning the set, and their first conference match. The Cowgirls had a .000 hitting percentage while the Eagles had a .158 The Eagles will be on the road next week as they visit Black Hills State on September 16, and South Dakota Mines on September 17.&nbsp;&nbsp;

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Georgia Southern's players sprinted into the south end zone in celebration after the Eagles finished their 45-42 upset of three-touchdown-favorite Nebraska on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, in the southeast corner of Memorial Stadium, the student section was chanting “Fire Frost, Fire Frost, Fire Frost.”

Kyle Vantrease scored on an 8-yard run with 36 seconds left after Nebraska had taken its first lead, and after Casey Thompson moved the Huskers into field goal range, Timmy Bleekrode was wide left with a 52-yard attempt as time ran out.

The victory, the Eagles’ first in 13 games against Power Five opponents, came with a $1.423 million guarantee paid by Nebraska. And it happened almost a year to the day that Southern California fired Helton two games into his seventh season. Helton was hired last November to take over a Georgia Southern program that went 3-9 and lost six of its last seven games last year.

“What a special night,” Helton said. “So proud of our kids, especially when you come off the season where you just win three games and you've got a new collection of people. You watch them come together and watch them starting to believe in themselves and believe in each other.”

The loss again turns up the pressure on embattled Nebraska coach Scott Frost, who faces a home game next week against No. 7 Oklahoma.

The Huskers (1-2) had come into the Georgia Southern game 214-0 when scoring at least 35 points at Memorial Stadium.

Frost lost to a Sun Belt Conference team for the second time in his five seasons, and he and his players are bracing for a week of negativity from one of college football's most ardent fan bases.

“Got to make sure it doesn’t seep into players. I haven’t listened to any of it for a long time. Got to make sure they don’t,” Frost said. “There are a lot of games left in the season and this group can do well.”

The Eagles (2-0) piled up 642 yards, none bigger than the 75 they moved in 11 plays for the winning touchdown.

Kyle Vantrease converted a fourth-and-2 pass and threw 27 yards to Khaleb Hood before he took off up the middle on a designed quarterback run for the go-ahead score.

Thompson moved the Huskers from their 23 to the Eagles' 34 before Bleekrode pulled his field-goal try to the left.

“We kind of felt that it might be a shootout and that whoever had the ball last, it might go their way,” Helton said. “We had just enough time left on that clock to be able to score, and I was holding my breath on their last drive when they had. The good Lord was watching after us.”

Nebraska had taken the lead on Thompson's 1-yard run with 3:05 left after Marques Buford's second interception of the game turned back the Eagles as they tried to build on a three-point lead.

Thompson led the Huskers 98 yards in 15 plays. Thompson and Anthony Grant churned out yards on the ground and Marcus Washington made a catch at the 1 that was upheld on video review before Thompson went over the pile at the goal line.

Vantrease, who was quarterback for Buffalo when it lost at Nebraska last year, was 37 of 56 for 409 yards. Gerald Green ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns and Jalen Allen had 85 yards and two scores.

Thompson ran for three touchdowns and was 23 of 34 for 318 yards and a score. Grant carried 27 times for 138 yards and a score.

“We win together and lose together,” Frost said. “All of us are frustrated after that one. Give them credit, give Clay credit. We can’t let it divide us.”

Georgia Southern: The Eagles began its transition from the Championship Subdivision to the Bowl Subdivision in 2013, the same year they beat Florida for their only other win over a Power Five team.

Nebraska: Frost’s hot seat is hotter than ever. His contract buyout drops from $15 million to $7.5 million on Oct. 1.

Georgia Southern lost two players to injury. Receiver Sam Kenerson injured his right leg late in the first half and was taken off the field on a cart, and defensive back Wylan Free left the game in the middle of the third quarter after making helmet-to-helmet contact while tackling Grant.

Kenerson had gone over the middle to make a catch, turned and was running when Marques Buford Jr. hit him. Kenerson went down writhing in pain and holding his leg and went off the field wearing an air cast.

Grant ran into Free head-on on a run. Free wobbled when he got up and was helped off the field.

Nebraska students chant "Fire Frost" after loss to Georgia Southern

&nbsp; The Chadron State College football team played Division I Utah Tech to a 7-7 standoff in the first half Saturday night at St. George, Utah, but saw the Trailblazers intercept four passes in the second half, return two of the thefts for touchdowns, and the Eagles ultimately lost 56-10. In several ways the Eagles showed improvement over their play in the season opener against Angelo State in Texas, but the turnovers were disastrous. Utah Tech also got its offense rolling in the second half to make the final score lopsided.&nbsp; The Trailblazers finished with 561 total net yards. The Eagles gained 303. "Our defense kept them in front of us in the first half, but they got away from us in the second half," CSC Head Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/coaches.aspx?rc=503">Jay Long</a>&nbsp;noted. "We had too many turnovers. Our offense has been outmatched in both of these games.&nbsp; We've got to get better." Utah Tech scored on its second possession, when running back Quail Conley scored on a 10-yard run after a 32-yard pass from quarterback Kobe Tracy to Rickie Johnson put the ball on the Eagles' 12. An interception by true freshman linebacker Ritchie McCormick set the stage for the Chadron State touchdown. In several ways the Eagles showed improvement over their play in the season opener against Angelo State in Texas, but the turnovers were disastrous. Utah Tech also got its offense rolling in the second half to make the final score lopsided.&nbsp; The Trailblazers finished with 561 total net yards. The Eagles gained 303. "Our defense kept them in front of us in the first half, but they got away from us in the second half," CSC Head Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/coaches.aspx?rc=503">Jay Long</a>&nbsp;noted. "We had too many turnovers. Our offense has been outmatched in both of these games.&nbsp; We've got to get better." &nbsp; Nebraska running back&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=43930">Anthony Grant</a>&nbsp;was honored Monday for his performance against North Dakota as he was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week. He shared the honor with Penn State's Sean Clifford. Grant, a 5-11, 200-pounder from Buford, Ga., rushed for 189 yards and two touchdowns in Nebraska's 38-17 win over North Dakota. Grant's 189 yards rushing were the most by any Husker since the 2020 season, while he scored on runs of 19 and 46 yards, the final TD giving the Huskers the lead for good. Grant is the first Husker to be Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week since the 2018 season. On the season, Grant has rushed for 290 yards and four scores, while averaging 6.9 yards per rush. He is the first Husker running back to have consecutive 100-yard days since Devine Ozigbo in 2018. The Huskers are back in action this Saturday as they host Georgia Southern. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. (MT) and the game will be carried on FS1 and on the Huskers Radio Network.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Eagles downed the winless Minot State University Beavers in four sets in front of its first home audience of the season. "I liked the way we stayed aggressive throughout all four sets," said Head Volleyball Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/coaches.aspx?rc=522">Jennifer Stadler</a>. "even though the match got pushed back over an hour. We had some great moments, and we need to stay determined. We can't allow ourselves to become timid at the end of the match." The Eagles dominated in hitting percentage, .211 to .123, yet they hit their best (.300) in the set two loss. The biggest difference in that set was that Minot hit at its best clip (.387) of the night by far, and got five of its eight service aces in the second frame. CSC also led commandingly in aces (15), and total blocks (11 to 3), through four sets. It aced its opponent five times in both the third and fourth sets, and it picked up six team blocks in the first set. The Eagles led most commandingly in the first set, when they racked up a 10-point, 25-15 victory in which the Beavers committed 10 of their 27 attack errors. MSU completed that segment hitting nearly &nbsp;-.100. Sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Koontz went off for six kills to lead MSU's winning effort in the second. Eagles ace first home test with dominant serving line performance

Nationally-ranked Angelo State scored on three lengthy drives in the first half and used interceptions to add two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter while defeating&nbsp; Chadron State 35-0 in the season-opener for both teams here Thursday night.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Bronkhorst completed 18 of 34 passes for 233 yards and was not intercepted. The Rams, who also did not lose any fumbles, rushed for 191 yards with Grear carrying 13 times for 111 yards.

The Eagles’ passing game clicked on only six of 25 passes while under heavy pressure from Angelo State blitzes.&nbsp; Long said in the post-game interview that providing better protection for the quarterback is something the Eagles will work on as they prepare for next Saturday’s game (Sept. 10) at against Utah Tech at St. George, Utah.&nbsp;

&nbsp; Two teams shut out the Chadron State College volleyball squad on Saturday, running the Eagles' record to 1-3 after a tournament in Billings, Montana, this weekend. Minnesota State-Moorhead (2-2) swept the Eagles by scores of 25-23, 25-13, and 25-17. CSC did not hit better than 10 percent in any of its three sets, while the Dragons held their own with a .236 hitting percentage. Moorhead also won the defensive battle with nine blocks to CSC's two. Dragons' junior outside hitter Bridget Witzmann impressed with 14 kills on a hitting clip of .355. She led her team with 14.5 total points including one block assist. For the third consecutive match to start the season, CSC junior outside Lexi Furtado either led the team, or shared the team lead, in kills, knocking down five against only one error. In the afternoon, host Montana State-Billings eked out each of three sets by the minimum two points apiece. CSC took the Yellowjackets to extra serves in the first set, in a 28-26 affair, followed by two identical scores of 25-23. The Yellowjackets' junior outside Jahsita Fa'ali'I also recorded 14 kills, hitting at a respectable rate of .220. She also stood out with 14 digs and one block assist. For the Eagles, sophomore middle hitter&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8433">Aiyana Fujiyama</a>&nbsp;collected eight kills and two block assists to finish with 9.0 total points. DENVER (AP) — Third-year defensive tackle McTelvin Agim's spot on the Denver Broncos roster is all but assured. Still, he went into the final tune-up determined to stand out in case he finds himself looking for work.

Agim forced two fumbles and broke up two passes in the Broncos' 23-13 preseason win over the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday night, and his best play, a strip-sack of Sean Mannion, led to Baron Browning's&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Broncos/status/1563714587060408321?s=20&amp;t=ZS1pPiK_yYFfQsOtQ4v3sA">17-yard fumble return</a>&nbsp;for a touchdown just before halftime.

“That was my mind-set,” Agim said, “just put the best film out there so all 31 other teams see it, as well.”

They'll be impressed, but it won't matter. Agim isn't going anywhere.

Both teams rested their starters in the preseason finale, and none of the four backup quarterbacks threw a touchdown.

Browning, whom the Broncos (2-1) moved from inside linebacker to the edge this year, stunted up the middle and nearly pried the ball from Mannion's grasp himself as he swept past him in the final minute of the first half.

Agim was right there to slap the ball out as he wrapped up Mannion from behind for a 10-yard sack. Browning reached back, grabbed the ball with his right hand and zipped into the end zone to give Denver a 17-7 lead.

“That was a killer," Vikings rookie head coach Kevin O'Connell said. "Sean’s trying to get ready check the ball down. We coach real hard to have two hands on it in the pocket.”

Mannion got the Vikings, who went winless in the preseason, to midfield for Greg Joseph's 46-yard field goal as time expired, cutting Minnesota's deficit to 17-10 at halftime.

Joseph's 58-yarder five seconds into the fourth quarter made it 17-13 and the Vikings were driving again when safety rookie safety Dalarrin Turner-Yell returned from a concussion check to sack Kellen Mond on fourth-and-goal from the Denver 5.

Brandon McManus capped the scoring with a pair of field goals over the final 3:19.

With Kirk Cousins sitting out again, Mannion was 9-of-16 for 121 yards and Mond went 10 for 17 for 102 yards in the second half.

Like Cousins, Russell Wilson didn't play at all in the preseason. Brett Rypien was 14 for 21 for 137 yards in the first half and Josh Johnson threw for 107 yards on 11-of-14 passing.

Wilson dressed out in full pads and even put on his eye black to watch the action from the sideline with Denver's other resting starters were decked out in street clothes.

He also had a headset and a microphone to listen to rookie head coach Nathaniel Hackett calling the offensive plays and consulting with offensive coordinator Justin Outten.

“So, he got to hear how I talked to the coaches and how I call plays,” said Hackett, whose first real-game experience with Wilson will be in the opener at Seattle.

Rypien drove the Broncos to the Minnesota 8 on Denver's opening possession but his throw over the middle to K.J. Hamler on first-and-goal was tipped by Myles Dorn and intercepted by Luiji Vilain.

Johnson drove Denver on a pair of drives that ended in field goals. McManus' 40-yarder made it 20-13 with 3:19 remaining.
