Las Vegas, N.M. -- February 11, 2022 --&nbsp;The Chadron State College women's basketball team (7-14, 6-10 RMAC) was defeated 76-71 after a monster fourth quarter by New Mexico Highlands (6-17, 3-14 RMAC) in Las Vegas Friday night.&nbsp;&nbsp;

CSC enjoyed one of its best shooting performances of the season, going 10-19 on three-pointers and 7-10 on free throws. Despite the effort, the&nbsp;Eagles were unable to hold off a 31-point surge by the Cowgirls offense in the fourth quarter.&nbsp;

<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4350">Jori Peters</a>&nbsp;scored the first points of the game after sprinting down the court for a fastbreak layup. She then stole the ball from NMHU's Shania Johnson and swished a subsequent three-pointer. A layup by&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8029">Samiyah Worrell</a>&nbsp;gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead to start the game. Worrell and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8024">Olyvia Pacheco</a>&nbsp;each landed a three before the end of the first quarter.&nbsp;

The second quarter began with CSC leading 21-16. Worrell and Pacheco each put up another three-pointer while NMHU's Maiah Rivas landed one of her own to help the Cowgirls come back to within a three-point deficit before the third quarter. The score was 34-31 Eagles at halftime.&nbsp;

Both teams traded blows in the third quarter with Worrell adding another three-pointer and Johnson answering back with a three of her own. Highlands gained its first lead of the night after a layup by Rivas put the Cowgirls up 38-37 at 7:16. Chadron State gained the lead back and led the Cowgirls 48-45 heading into the fourth quarter.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Chadron State led Highlands for most of the fourth quarter until Aja Scott landed back-to-back threes at 4:10 and 3:12 to gain a 64-63 lead. The Cowgirls would score six more unanswered points to increase their lead to seven. Down by nine with&nbsp;20 seconds of the game, Worrell and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4343">Bailey Brooks</a>&nbsp;each netted a three-pointer to close out the game. The final score was 76-71.&nbsp;

Highlands' big fourth quarter was the result of shooting 80% on field goals (12-15), 75% on three-pointers (3-4), and 100% on free throws (4-4).&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Eagles will be looking to bounce back when they travel to play UCCS (9-14, 7-10 RMAC) at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Chadron State College women's basketball team (7-13, 6-9 RMAC) lost 77-74 Saturday night in a close overtime clash with Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival CSU-Pueblo (18-5, 14-3 RMAC).&nbsp;

Against one of the strongest defenses in the conference, the Eagles kept their composure and played hard for five periods. It was missed free throws and a critical steal by the Thunderwolves late in overtime that sealed the loss for Chadron State in the end.&nbsp;

The Thunderwolves scored the first points of the game off a three-pointer by Ro Dominguez. CSC would tie it up with a free throw by&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4420">Olivia Waufle</a>&nbsp;and a layup by&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8029">Samiyah Worrell</a>. Immediately answering back was Pueblo's Morgan Dial who sank a three-pointer of her own. From there the Thunderwolves would pull away, finishing the quarter with a 19-11 lead over the Eagles.&nbsp;

After allowing a layup and a three-pointer to start the second quarter, the Eagles began to fight back as&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4350">Jori Peters</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8024">Olyvia Pacheco</a>&nbsp;each swished a three-pointer while&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4343">Bailey Brooks</a>&nbsp;landed two jumpshots and a layup to help make it 35-32 Thunderwolves at halftime.&nbsp;

It was a back-and-forth fight in the third quarter until Peters stole the ball from Pueblo's Jazzy Hughes and swished a fastbreak three-pointer at the top of the key to make the score 49-47 Thunderwolves. After a missed layup by Alisa Davis,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4644">Ashayla Powers</a>&nbsp;tied up the game off a layup assisted by Peters. &nbsp;

Giving the Eagles their first lead of the day was Powers, who put up another layup in the paint to make it 51-49. The Thunderwolves quickly put up two more field goals to gain back the lead right before the fourth quarter. The score was 53-51.&nbsp;

CSC swiftly flew to a five-point lead in the fourth quarter after Peters shot a three-pointer and a free throw followed by a three by Pacheco to make it 58-53. Then Pueblo around and gained their own five-point lead at 2:56 due to four turnovers and three fouls by the Eagles. &nbsp;

With the scoreboard reading 66-61 Thunderwolves, Chadron State scored five unanswered points all from free throws by Pacheco, Powers, and Brooks. At 0:27 on the clock, Pueblo would miss a jump shot and a last-second three-pointer to send the game into overtime with the scores tied at 66. T&nbsp;

The Eagles made only nine of their 16 free throws in the fourth quarter.&nbsp;

Chadron State initially took a 71-68&nbsp;lead to start overtime. After both teams went back and forth for a few minutes, the Thunderwolves' Alisha Davis tied the score at 74-74 off a layup with 14 seconds left.&nbsp;

CSC quickly called a timeout with 11 seconds on the clock. Powers passed the ball inbounds but was intercepted by Pueblo's Amaya Lewis, who sprinted down the court to land the go-ahead layup with seven seconds remaining. &nbsp;

After another timeout, the Eagles turned the ball over again when Worrell tried to pass the ball inbounds but it flew&nbsp;over the reach of her teammates' hands and went out of bounds.&nbsp;

Following one&nbsp;free throw by CSU-Pueblo, the Eagles had one last chance to tie the game up with three seconds remaining. Peters ran the ball just to the outside of the arc but was blocked by Amaya Lewis as time expired. The result was a heartbreaking 77-74 loss for CSC.&nbsp;

Powers finished the game with 21 points and 13 rebounds, which makes for her third double-double of the season. &nbsp;

The Eagles will be on the road for their next two games. Friday's game at New Mexico Highlands (5-16, 2-13 RMAC) is scheduled for a 5 p.m. tipoff and Saturday's game at UCCS (9-12, 7-8 RMAC) will start at 5:30 p.m. &nbsp;

🏀WBB: Chadron State's upset bid of ThunderWolves falls short in OT

&nbsp; &nbsp;It went into overtime, but the Chadron State College men's basketball team posted a rousing 88-86 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo at home Sunday evening, one night after losing a heart-breaking 59-58 decision to Adams State. The Chadron State women's team also kept the fans on the edge during the double-headers. &nbsp;The Lady Eagles nipped Adams State 63-61 Saturday night, but were nudged by CSU-Pueblo 77-74, also &nbsp;in overtime, Sunday evening. The CSC men's team played much better Sunday night than it had the previous night.&nbsp; After shooting just 37.7% from the field in the first game, the Eagles hit 49.2% in the second game. Chadron State is now 9-13 for the season and 6-10 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while Pueblo also is 9-13 overall and is 5-9 in the conference after also splitting its weekend's games by upsetting league-leading Black Hills State 82-59 on Saturday night in Spearfish. Eagles send rival CSU-Pueblo home with OT loss Sunday night

&nbsp; Cold shooting, especially from long range, was the downfall for the Chadron State College men's basketball team Saturday night as Adams State hung on for a 59-58 win in the Chicoine Center at CSC. The Eagles shot just 37.7% from the field all told, but were only three of 21 from 3-point range, just 14.3%.&nbsp; Thus, Chadron State managed only 58 points while the Grizzlies had given up an average of 78 points a game in their previous 20 games this winter. "It's frustrating when we make only three of 21 of our 3-point shots," said CSC Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/coaches.aspx?rc=551">Shane Paben</a>. "Our defense kept us in the game and we played hard, but we needed to make more shots."&nbsp; For the season, the Eagles have been shooting 35.8% from behind the arc.&nbsp; Both teams got off to a terribly slow start.&nbsp; After the first five minutes just nine points had been score. The Grizzlies were ahead 22-15 with five minutes remaining in the first half, before the Eagles rallied to tie the score at 24-24 at intermission. The teams traded baskets for the first four minutes of the second half, but Adams State held a 48-38 lead with 8:06 remaining.&nbsp; Led by a dunk and a putback by center&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8006">Porter Anderson</a>&nbsp;and the team's only 3-pointers of the second half, both by&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4652">KJ Harris</a>, the Eagles fought to get within striking distance. Back-to-back layups by alternate guard Mason Heimstra, the second one after he'd stolen the ball, made the deficit just one point—55-54—with 1:17 left on the clock.&nbsp; Adams State's leading scorer, Rylan O'Brien, hit two free throws with 33 seconds left.&nbsp; Seven seconds later, Anderson made a layup for his ninth basket in 10 shots.&nbsp; Then, after CSC guard&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4663">CJ Jennings</a>&nbsp;stole the ball, Heimstra took pass to the hoop for a layup to give the Eagles their first lead in about 16 minutes at 58-57 with 16 seconds remaining.&nbsp; But while attempting to keep Adams State from scoring, the Eagles fouled Kaelin Crane, who made both free shots with seven seconds showing to put his team back ahead 59-58. That became the final score when the hosts missed a 3-point attempt and an off-balance putback attempt hit the side of the rim as the buzzer sounded. O'Brien, who was six of 11 from the field, including three 3-pointers, and made all five of his free shots, was the game's top scorer with 20 points. Crane added 16 and Malik Moore 13 to go with a game-high 14 rebounds for the Grizzlies. Anderson, who also grabbed nine rebounds, led the Eagles with his 9-of-10 sharpshooting, three of them dunks, with 18 points, his season-high. "Our defense kept us in the game and we played hard, but we needed to make more shots."&nbsp; For the season, the Eagles have been shooting 35.8% from behind the arc.&nbsp; Both teams got off to a terribly slow start.&nbsp; After the first five minutes just nine points had been score. The Grizzlies were ahead 22-15 with five minutes remaining in the first half, before the Eagles rallied to tie the score at 24-24 at intermission. The teams traded baskets for the first four minutes of the second half, but Adams State held a 48-38 lead with 8:06 remaining.&nbsp; Led by a dunk and a putback by center&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8006">Porter Anderson</a>&nbsp;and the team's only 3-pointers of the second half, both by&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4652">KJ Harris</a>, the Eagles fought to get within striking distance. Back-to-back layups by alternate guard Mason Heimstra, the second one after he'd stolen the ball, made the deficit just one point—55-54—with 1:17 left on the clock.&nbsp; Adams State's leading scorer, Rylan O'Brien, hit two free throws with 33 seconds left.&nbsp; Seven seconds later, Anderson made a layup for his ninth basket in 10 shots.&nbsp; Then, after CSC guard&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4663">CJ Jennings</a>&nbsp;stole the ball, Heimstra took pass to the hoop for a layup to give the Eagles their first lead in about 16 minutes at 58-57 with 16 seconds remaining.&nbsp; But while attempting to keep Adams State from scoring, the Eagles fouled Kaelin Crane, who made both free shots with seven seconds showing to put his team back ahead 59-58. That became the final score when the hosts missed a 3-point attempt and an off-balance putback attempt hit the side of the rim as the buzzer sounded. O'Brien, who was six of 11 from the field, including three 3-pointers, and made all five of his free shots, was the game's top scorer with 20 points. Crane added 16 and Malik Moore 13 to go with a game-high 14 rebounds for the Grizzlies. Anderson, who also grabbed nine rebounds, led the Eagles with his 9-of-10 sharpshooting, three of them dunks, with 18 points, his season-high. In one of the most competitive games of the season, the Chadron State College women's basketball team (7-12, 6-8 RMAC)&nbsp;prevailed 63-61 against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival&nbsp;Adams&nbsp;State&nbsp;(9-12, 7-9 RMAC)&nbsp;off a buzzer-beater by&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4644">Ashayla Powers</a>, who balled out for the Eagles&nbsp;Saturday night.&nbsp;

In a&nbsp;game that featured 14 lead changes and 18 ties scores&nbsp;between both teams,&nbsp;Powers—a&nbsp;5-foot-10 redshirt&nbsp;freshman—scored&nbsp;a career-high 27 points during the game. She also had season highs in&nbsp;free throw attempts (11) and rebounds (13).&nbsp;&nbsp;

Elaina Watson of the Grizzlies struck first&nbsp;with a layup at 9:22. Powers answered back with a layup of her own&nbsp;20 seconds later.&nbsp;Sophomore&nbsp;forward&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8014">Riley Aiono</a>&nbsp;contributed five points&nbsp;and three rebounds in the first quarter&nbsp;to help the Eagles find their footing.&nbsp;The score was 18-15 Grizzlies heading into the second quarter.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The second quarter&nbsp;of play&nbsp;featured&nbsp;three of&nbsp;the&nbsp;four&nbsp;total&nbsp;three-pointers of the game.&nbsp;The first was by ASU's&nbsp;Stephanie&nbsp;Ruiz&nbsp;at 8:29 to make it 21-19 Grizzlies. The next&nbsp;three-pointer&nbsp;was&nbsp;by&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4343">Bailey Brooks</a>,&nbsp;whose&nbsp;three-pointer&nbsp;at 6:10&nbsp;pushed the Eagles to a 26-23 lead.&nbsp;Tying&nbsp;up the score at 28 with 5:04 on the clock was Watson, who landed&nbsp;the third and final three of the quarter.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Eagles and Grizzlies continued trading blows until the score was 34-33 ASU at the end of the half.&nbsp;

In one of the best defensive performances in a quarter this season, the Eagles held the Grizzlies to only six points while putting up 13&nbsp;points&nbsp;of their own&nbsp;in the third quarter.&nbsp;It wasn't until 2:23&nbsp;that the Grizzlies were able to make their first field goal of the second half.&nbsp;The Eagles led 46-40 to conclude the third quarter.&nbsp;

The fourth quarter of the game was a roller coaster. Both teams&nbsp;fought until the score was&nbsp;59-52 Eagles after a layup by&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8017">Micheala Dammann</a>&nbsp;at 1:32. The Grizzlies began to claw their way back after&nbsp;scoring&nbsp;six unanswered points off&nbsp;a&nbsp;jump shot and four free throws to make it 59-58.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After&nbsp;feeling the heat from ASU, Powers netted an unassisted layup to give the Eagles a three-point lead with 14 seconds on the clock.&nbsp;ASU's Ruiz swished a three-pointer at the top of the key to tie the score 61-61.&nbsp;Chadron State immediately called timeout with 3.3 seconds remaining.&nbsp;

After the timeout,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8029">Samiyah Worrell</a>&nbsp;passed the ball&nbsp;inbounds to&nbsp;teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4420">Olivia Waufle</a>. With less than one second&nbsp;on the clock, Waufle&nbsp;dumped it off to Powers in the paint for the go-ahead layup as time&nbsp;expired, giving the Eagles&nbsp;a&nbsp;thrilling&nbsp;63-61 win.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; Lincoln&nbsp;- Freshmen&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=42706">Alexis Markowski</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=42709">Allison Weidner</a>&nbsp;joined forces to score 18 of Nebraska's final 20 points, as the Nebraska women's basketball team pulled away down the stretch for a 76-61 win over Penn State at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday night. The decisive outburst by the young Nebraska natives powered Nebraska to its fourth consecutive victory to move the Huskers to 17-4 overall and 6-4 in the Big Ten. Penn State suffered its fifth consecutive loss to slip to 9-12 overall and 3-8 in the conference. Markowski&nbsp;(Lincoln, Neb.) finished with a team-high 18 points to go along with four rebounds, while Weidner&nbsp;(Humphrey, Neb.) matched her career high for the second time in three games with 14 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter. Weidner added four rebounds, two assists and two steals. The Huskers built a 12-point lead midway through the third quarter thanks to strong performances by Australians&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=42985">Jaz Shelley</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=41993">Isabelle Bourne</a>. Bourne finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Shelley notched her sixth double-double of the season by matching her career high with 12 rebounds and setting a new career best with 11 assists. She also knocked down a pair of three-pointers to finish with six points while adding three blocks and a steal. Neither Bourne nor Shelley scored in the fourth quarter. The Huskers are coming off a regular-season Big Ten title and their first NCAA Regional Final appearance since 2007 after going 34-14 (31-12 Big Ten) in 2021. The No. 25 ranking is the third ranking in the top 25 for the Huskers this preseason. Nebraska's previously released preseason rankings are No. 20 by Baseball America and No. 22 by Perfect Game. The Huskers are the lone Big Ten team in the NCBWA's poll. Texas received the top spot, followed by No. 2 Vanderbilt and defending national champion Mississippi State in third. LINCOLN
 — The long-standing ban on alcohol at University of Nebraska athletic 
events is to be reconsidered Feb. 11 by the University of Nebraska Board
 of Regents.&nbsp;

Under
 a proposed policy change, the university president and chancellors 
would be allowed to authorize the sale and consumption of alcohol at 
athletic events at their respective campuses.

A
 university press release issued Thursday noted that while a 1999 
resolution prohibits alcohol at athletic events on university property, 
the Regents have approved exceptions on a contract-by-contract basis on 
multiple campuses and sites.&nbsp;

NU
 President Ted Carter said the policy reversal could create consistency 
across the NU system at a time when alcohol sales have been a frequent 
topic.

“Opening
 any university event to alcohol is a question that we will always 
approach with diligence and care,” Carter said. “Our Board and 
Administration have thoughtfully explored these issues for years, 
together with our athletics colleagues, business teams and others. This 
proposed policy change is a common-sense first step if we ultimately 
decide to consider alcohol at any additional athletic events.”

The
 change also would allow alcohol advertising and sponsorships on 
university property, if given approval by the respective chancellor.

The
 Feb. 11 meeting agenda calls for consideration of an amendment to its 
agreement with the City of Lincoln for Pinnacle Bank Arena to allow 
alcohol sales at the Big Ten Wrestling Championships March 5-6.

"Those are exactly the things we accomplished with this class. On the offense in particular, we had some big pieces to replace, and I think we addressed that need very well." The program brought in 12 offensive players, 16 for the defense, and one labeled an athlete. Two quarterbacks are included in the group. One, a junior year transfer, is&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8322">Heath Beemiller</a>&nbsp;of Chandler, Arizona. He spent three years at FCS Northern Arizona and has two remaining. The other is Gavin Garretson of Mead, Colorado, led his team to a 3A state title game. One final athlete comes from North Platte, and that is&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8352">Tate Janas</a>, who alongside fellow signee Masker, recently helped the Nebraska side defeat Iowa for the third consecutive year in the annual River Battle Bowl. CSC Football: Eagles sign 29 on National Signing Day

Alliance High School Freshman Ashley Carr,&nbsp; recently competed in the 1st round of qualification for the American Legion 2022 Junior Air Rifle National Tournament.&nbsp; 

The&nbsp;competitors fire 20 record shots in 20 minutes from the prone position,&nbsp; 20 record shots in 25 minutes from the standing position and 20 record shots in 20 minutes from the kneeling position.&nbsp; &nbsp;The targets are 10 meters from the firing line and the shooters use a .177 caliber air rifle.&nbsp; &nbsp;Ashley scored a total of 517 points out of a possible 600.&nbsp; Ashley has been competing in the American Legion Air Rifle competition for 2 years.&nbsp; She is a member of the Box Butte County&nbsp; Guns R Us&nbsp; 4-H Club and is the daughter of Kari and Josh Carr of Alliance.&nbsp;

The Eagles trailed by as many as 13 points late in the first half and by 10 twice in the second half before taking their first lead at 65-63 on a three-pointer by guard&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4653">Marcus Jefferson</a>&nbsp;with 5:47 to play. Jefferson also made a 2-point shot that put his team ahead for keeps at 73-72 with 80 seconds remaining and added three free throws and a steal down the stretch. Jefferson intentionally missed his final free throw with less than a second left on the clock so the Roadrunners could not set up for a three-pointer that could have won the game Jefferson led the Eagles with 19 points,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4663">CJ Jennings</a>&nbsp;made 4-of-6 three-point shots while scoring 16 and K.J. Beginning at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, Chadron State College sports fans can choose to watch either track and field or wrestling on campus.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 

The Don Holst Open Track and Field Meet will start with field events at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Nelson Physical Activity Center.&nbsp; Track events will begin at 1 o’clock.&nbsp; The Eagles will be joined by Black Hills State, South Dakota Mines and Montana State-Billings in the competition.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

The Colorado State-Pueblo wrestlers will be in Chadron for a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual with the Eagles beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chicoine Center. The Eagles have won their previous three RMAC duals at home this season and are 4-1 overall in dual action.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Pueblo has a 2-3 dual record.&nbsp; The Eagles topped the ThunderWolves 23-16 in last year’s match in Pueblo.

Since both basketball teams are to play their only games this weekend at Metro State in Denver on Friday night, that sport will not be available in Chadron again until Feb. 4-5 when Colorado State-Pueblo and Adams State visit.

There will be some preliminary track and field action in conjunction with the Holst Meet on Saturday.&nbsp; Four men from South Dakota Mines and CSC veteran Harley Rhoades of Douglas, Wyo., will be making their debuts in the heptathlon, which is comprised of seven events.

&nbsp; The first four events will take place beginning at 4:30 Friday and the final three will start at 10 o’clock Saturday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Chadron State wrestlers were slated to visit Colorado Mesa and Western Colorado for duals last weekend, but the Eagles were hit by COVID problems and did not make the trip.&nbsp; CSC Athletic Director Joel Smith said Wednesday the matches have been rescheduled for Feb. 10 at Grand Junction and Feb. 11 at Gunnison.&nbsp;

The CSC basketball teams are expected to have their hands full against Metro State. Both Road Runner quintets are deeply involved in the conference’s playoff pictures.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Chadron State College women's basketball team (6-11, 5-7 RMAC) was handed their first home loss of the season by Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent Westminster College (9-5, 8-2 RMAC) during a rescheduled game that took place Monday afternoon.

Accuracy was a major issue for the Eagles as they shot 31.7% on field goals (19-60) and 14.3% on three-pointers (2-14). The Griffins took advantage and outpaced CSC right from the get-go. &nbsp;

Westminster struck first when Hunter Krebs received a pass from Abby Mangum to land a go-ahead layup at 9:45. Following the first score of the game were eight missed shots and seven turnovers committed between both teams. &nbsp;

The Griffins' defense stepped up in the second quarter, holding the Eagles to only nine points. Three of those points came from a deep three-pointer by Worrell at 6:08. The Griffins answered back with two treys of their own and went six-for-12 on field goals to make it 33-21 at the half. &nbsp;

The cold-shooting Eagles continued to struggle against Westminster's defense in the third quarter, going 3-12 on field goals and missing a three-pointer. The Griffins would put up six more field goals and six successful free throws to give them a 20-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. &nbsp;

With 52-33 on the scoreboard, the Eagles had their best performance in the final quarter as they scored 26 points down the stretch. They went 46.7% on field goals (7-15) and shot perfect on free throws (11-11) to cut into the Griffins' lead.&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4350">Jori Peters</a>&nbsp;also made one three-pointer to help contribute to the comeback effort. &nbsp;

Despite their improvement in the fourth quarter, the Eagles were unable to overcome Westminster as the Griffins answered back by shooting a perfect three-for-three on three-pointers and eight-for-eight on free throws. The score was 71-59 at the final buzzer of the game. &nbsp;

The Eagles will have a chance to bounce back when they travel to Colorado to face MSU Denver (12-4, 8-3 RMAC) on Friday at 5 p.m.&nbsp;

The Huskers are coming off a regular-season Big Ten title and their first NCAA Regional Final appearance since 2007 after going 34-14 (31-12 Big Ten) in 2021. Nebraska is the lone Big Ten team in the Top 25. Texas received the top spot in Baseball America's poll, followed by No. 2 Vanderbilt and defending national champion Mississippi State in third. No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 5 Virginia round out the top five. The No. 20 ranking is the second ranking in the top 25 for the Huskers this preseason. Nebraska comes in at No. 22 in the Perfect Game Preseason Poll, released earlier this month. Preseason polls from USA Today and NCBWA have yet to be released.
