Alliance High School hosted the B-6 Unified Bowling District Tournament,&nbsp; December 1,&nbsp; at Bowl-Mor Lanes.&nbsp; Alliance competed with other Panhandle schools which included... Bridgeport, Gordon-Rushville, Ogallala, Scottsbluff and South Platte.&nbsp; &nbsp;Following the competition Alliance was crowned District Champion,&nbsp; finishing with a score of 1034.&nbsp; Ogallala was the runner up at 855.&nbsp; &nbsp;Rounding out the field...Gordon-Rushville-753,&nbsp; South Platte-737,&nbsp; Bridgeport-713,&nbsp; Scottsbluff-583.

Alliance now will compete in the Class B State Championships on December 6, at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln. The State Tournament begins with opening ceremonies at 8:00 am (CT). The event will run through the day with the State Championship matches beginning at 1:30 pm (CT).&nbsp; 

This will be the 5th time AHS has qualified for the State Tournament in the 6 year history of Unified Bowling becoming a sanctioned sport by the Nebraska School Activities Association.&nbsp; The Bulldogs were State Champions in 2017.&nbsp;

AHS Unified Bowling District Champs

Panhandle teams will open the 2021-22&nbsp; basketball season Thursday, Friday and Saturday&nbsp; with the Annual Western Conference Invitational Tournament. 

Games will be played at Scottsbluff, Gering, Mitchell and WNCC over the 3 day event.&nbsp; Both Girls and Boys teams from Western Conference Schools&nbsp; Alliance, Chadron, Gering, Mitchell, Scottsbluff and Sidney, along with teams from Sterling and Arvada Colorado will compete.&nbsp;

&nbsp; The Nebraska volleyball team was selected as the No. 10 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament Sunday night and will host the NCAA first and second rounds at the Bob Devaney Sports Center this coming weekend. The Huskers, making their 40th straight NCAA Tournament appearance, will open the tournament on Friday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. (MT) against Campbell (21-9), champions of the Big South Conference. The 3:30 p.m. (MT) match will feature Florida State (19-9) of the Atlantic Coast Conference and Kansas State (15-12) of the Big 12 Conference. Friday's winners will meet on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. (MT) Louisville, Texas, Pitt and Wisconsin received the top four seeds from the NCAA Tournament Committee. Should those teams all advance past the first weekend, they would host an NCAA Regional the following weekend. Nebraska is in the same region as Texas along with No. 7 national seed Kentucky and No. 15 Washington. The Huskers would have an opportunity to host an NCAA Regional only if they advance past the opening two rounds and Texas and Kentucky were upset in the first or second round. Tickets to the first and second rounds in Lincoln are available for purchase online at Huskers.com/tickets as of Sunday night. With CSC's third consecutive win, it improved to 3-4 this season, all in non-conference play. "Today our effort was great," said CSC Head Men's Basketball&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/coaches.aspx?rc=551">Shane Paben</a>. "Everybody stepped up on our team. They did a great job finding ways to help our team. Every individual is given credit for that. We still have some things to work on, of course, but this was a total team effort." The Roosters went on a 9-3 run to begin the game, before a layup by CSC's&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8007">Beau Bragg</a>&nbsp;cut it to a four point difference at 16:30. &nbsp; SAN JUAN, P.R. -- November 26, 2021 -- The Chadron State College men's basketball team trailed only once, after the opening basket of the game, and it led by as many as 28 with three minutes remaining in an 81-57 win over the University of Puerto Rico-Carolina on Friday in San Juan. Playing with a vastly depleted roster, the Eagles built a 43-24 lead at the half on 15 first half Jaguars turnovers. UPRC then went on a 21-8 run in the early minutes after the break, but under 12 minutes, the Jags went cold and only hit a couple of field goals the rest of the game. "Our focus kind of waned in the second half," said CSC Head Men's Basketball Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/coaches.aspx?rc=551">Shane Paben</a>. "When we lose focus, we don't end up playing our defense. It was the first time in 25 years I didn't have the chance to see someone play or look at a roster. We just said, 'instead of worrying about them, we have to take care of ourselves, and worry about our offense and our defense.'" CSC shot 43 percent from the field, going 28-of-65, but it also hit 10 of its 25 three point attempts to shoot 40 percent from beyond the arc. They were only 15 of 28 from the foul line. The Eagles also outrebounded the Jaguars by nine, pulling down 45 boards to the opponent's 36. Sixteen of CSC's rebounds came on the offensive glass. Chadron State scored 23 of its points off turnovers. &nbsp;The Chadron State College women's basketball team (1-3, 0-0 RMAC) earned their first victory of the season Sunday&nbsp;afternoon&nbsp;over NAIA opponent Mount Marty (0-6,&nbsp;0-0 GPAC).&nbsp;

With a final score of 68-48, the Eagles&nbsp;snapped their&nbsp;17-game losing&nbsp;streak which spanned back to the end of the 2019-20 season. They will be looking to add more wins to their record&nbsp;this season with RMAC conference play right around the corner.&nbsp;

The Lancers and the Eagles&nbsp;kept the score tight in the first half,&nbsp;which finished&nbsp;29-24&nbsp;Eagles.&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7871">Jori Peters</a>&nbsp;had&nbsp;two deep three-pointers&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7873">Ashayla Powers</a>&nbsp;landed two jump shots in the paint&nbsp;in the first quarter.&nbsp;In the second quarter,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7865">Bailey Brooks</a>&nbsp;put up two field goals, three rebounds, and&nbsp;a steal.&nbsp;Though the Lancers briefly held the lead at 15-14&nbsp;late in the first quarter,&nbsp;the Eagles&nbsp;took&nbsp;it right back and never gave it up for the rest of the game&nbsp;

The Eagles' offense turned on the jets in the second half by outscoring Mount Marty 39-24.&nbsp;They shot best in the fourth quarter, going 41.2% on field goals (7-17), 40% on three-pointers (2-5), and 83.3% on free throws (5-6)&nbsp;

The Eagles shot 35.4% on field goals (23-65), 29.2% on three-pointers (7-24), and 68.2% on free throws (15-22) while the Lancers shot 26.8% on field goals (15-56), 27.3% on three-pointers (6-22) and 70.6% on&nbsp;free throws (12-17)&nbsp;

Leading the Eagles to their victory was senior guard&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7871">Jori Peters</a>. Peters accounted for team-highs of 22 points, eight field goals, four three-pointers,&nbsp;five assists, and three steals. She went 2-4 on free throws and spent 34 total minutes on the court.&nbsp;

"The team has been working&nbsp;hard to&nbsp;improve and we&nbsp;showed&nbsp;tonight that we have taken a step forward," said Head Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/coaches.aspx?rc=524">Janet Raymer</a>. "It was really nice to play at home."&nbsp;

Chadron State will travel&nbsp;Monday&nbsp;to Laramie Wyo. for an exhibition game against the Wyoming&nbsp;Cowgirls&nbsp;at 6:30 p.m. They will wrap up non-conference play&nbsp;when they travel to Kearney, Neb. to take on&nbsp;the Lopers&nbsp;(3-1, 0-0 MIAA) Saturday afternoon.&nbsp;

Peters leads CSC women to 20 point victory Sunday

As the score would suggest, the Eagles were hot. They made 48 of 77 field goal shots for 62.3%, including a school record 18 three-pointers in 41 attempts. They also shared the basketball well, setting a CSC record for most assists with 35 and had seven players score in double-figures for what is believed to be the first time in school history. The old record of 29 assists had been reached three times, most recently in 1999-2000. Twice before the CSC men had buried 17 treys. This was the first time the Eagles have scored more than 100 points in a winning cause since they downed New Mexico Highlands 104-87 in 2009-10. They also exceeded 100 points versus Highlands in January 2020, but lost that game to the Cowboys 109-101 in overtime. Although the Eagles' first basket was a layup, their next five were three-pointers while they built a 17-2 lead in the opening four minutes.&nbsp; They led 26-6 midway in the first half, were ahead 53-27 at halftime and outscored the visitors 65-37 in the second half. Western Conference announces All Conference Selections for Fall 2021-2022

The Alliance Girls Golf team had multiple reasons to celebrate following the end of their season. 

The Bulldogs honored 5 seniors on this years team:&nbsp; Morgan Young, Julia Wilson, Chloe Mann, Donna LeMunyan and Annika Fuchs.&nbsp; Alliance competed in eight competitions, placing as high as 3rd at Sidney and Mitchell and shooting a team best score of 425 at Ogallala.&nbsp; Seniors Julia Wilson and Morgan Young&nbsp; were All Western Conference.&nbsp; Julia Wilson placed in the Top 10 in each event and qualified for the State Tournament.&nbsp; &nbsp;Senior Morgan Young signed to play golf at the college level at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO.

AHS Girls Golf presents end of season awards, Young signs with NJC

&nbsp; The No. 11 Nebraska volleyball team's regular-season home finale with Rutgers scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20 has been canceled due to non-COVID related illnesses within the Scarlet Knights' program, it was announced Thursday. The decision was reached based on guidance from RU's medical staff out of an abundance of caution surrounding the health and safety of participants from both programs. In alignment with Big Ten forfeiture policies, the match will be recorded as a loss for Rutgers, and Nebraska will be credited with a conference win. Ticket holders will be refunded for tickets and parking purchased for the canceled match. Refunds will be issued by the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office at the conclusion of the season. The Huskers' match with No. 15 Penn State on Friday, Nov. 19 remains on as scheduled. The Red Cross will collect monetary donations at the entrances to the Devaney Center, and NU will honor its five seniors with Senior Night festivities following Friday's 8 p.m.&nbsp; CT contest. KCOW radio coverage will begin at 6:30 pm MT. The match will be televised on the Big 10 Network.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nebraska vs Rutgars Volleyball Cancelled

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost met with members of the media following Thursday's practice. Frost discussed the challenge of going against Wisconsin's aggressive defense.

"Coach (Jim) Leonhard does a great job," Frost said. "(Wisconsin) plays with an aggressive attitude. They are big. They are physical. They have a good player at every position. They are tough to sustain drives against. They mix it up a lot more than they have before, so they are hard to dial in. They know what they are doing. You have to go earn what you can get from them."

Frost spoke highly of defensive coordinator, Erik Chinander, and the culture he has built.

"Chinander has done a great job," he said. "That whole staff has done a great job. I think they are getting everything out the guys that they can right now. We have been really solid on that side of the ball. The best thing about that side of the ball is there is a culture of toughness and togetherness. He has done a good job establishing that and creating that and maintaining that. I am so glad those guys are here and they are going to keep working to keep getting even better."

He also talked about the team's resiliency.

"There is not a lot of quit in these guys," Frost said. "I think that comes from relationships within the team. These guys are going to keep battling and they know how close they have been. They are excited about this game. It just speaks to the character of the players that we have and that has just continued to improve and get better. These guys will keep playing hard."

The Huskers are set to play Wisconsin on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 2:30 p.m. in Madison, Wis. at Camp Randall Stadium. Radio coverage will be provided by Huskers Radio Network.

The teams were selected by the RMAC football head coaches in a vote. No coach is allowed to vote for his own players. Featured on the All-RMAC First Team are senior offensive lineman&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6713">Justin Calderon</a>, junior offensive lineman&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6722">Juan Estrada-Sanchez</a>, and senior cornerback&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6769">Bobby Peele</a>. Kearney sank a pair of three-pointers to open the game, but Chadron State went ahead 15-12 on a three-pointer by&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7855">CJ Jennings</a>&nbsp;with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half.&nbsp; However, that was the Eagles' only lead. They missed their next six shots and also turned the ball over twice, paving the way for Kearney to go on a 10-0 run and lead 22-15 with seven minutes still on the clock. The Lopers were ahead 42-28 at halftime and the Eagles' chances of getting back in contention dissipated when they failed to score in the first 5 ½ of the second half.&nbsp; By then the Lopers had doubled the score to 56-28 and were on their way to their second victory in three games this season. 🏀 MBB: Kearney defeats cold-shooting Eagles

Alliance High's Avah Steggall became the second member of the Senior class of 2021 to sign a letter of intent to play college volleyball.&nbsp; Avah signed with North Platte Community College on Tuesday, following her teammate, Amauri Browning, who signed with Highland CC of Kansas on Monday.&nbsp; &nbsp;NPCC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX.&nbsp; The Knights went 17-15 this season.&nbsp;

Avah,&nbsp; who stands 6'0",&nbsp; was an exceptional, all around player for the Bulldogs her Senior year.&nbsp; After being a hitter most of her career, She lead the team in assists with 423,&nbsp; while registering 122 kills,&nbsp; 259 digs and 43 blocks this season.&nbsp; She also set a school record for ace serves in a match&nbsp; with 8.&nbsp; Her teammates voted her the Senior Award winner, for the examples she sets on and off the court.&nbsp; She helped lead Alliance to a 19-17 record as the Bulldogs played in the Class B District Finals for an 8th straight year.&nbsp; She plans to play setter and right side hitter in college. She is also a returning starter for the AHS Girls basketball team.

Avah is the daughter of Dana and Ben Bauer,&nbsp; and Jay Steggall of Alliance.&nbsp;

AHS Senior Avah Steggall signs with NPCC for Volleyball

Alliance High School Senior Amauri Browning will continue her volleyball career at the college level next fall.&nbsp; Amauri signed a letter of intent to play for Highland Community College, a National Junior College Athletic Association Team and a member of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference,&nbsp; &nbsp;located in the city of Highland in northeast Kansas. The Scotties have a record of 28-7 this season.&nbsp;

Amauri is a 5' 8", outside hitter for AHS. She lead the Bulldogs this past season with 276 kills and a school record 517 digs.&nbsp; She has over 1000 digs in her high school career. She was voted Team Co- Captain and MVP&nbsp; by her teammates. She plans to play the Libero position in college.&nbsp;

Amauri is also a returning starter and letter winner for the Bulldog girls basketball team and a 3 time letter winner in Track and Field.&nbsp; She&nbsp; is the daughter of AHS Head Volleyball Coach Jessica Kaiser and Keegan Kaiser of Alliance.

Holst, the&nbsp;Offensive Player of the Week, threw for 236 yards and four touchdowns Saturday, efficiently connecting on 16 of his 22 passing attempts in the contest. His performance against the Yellow Jackets brings him to 11,529 career passing yards and 97 career touchdown passes for the Eagles, which are not only school records, but No. 4 all-time in the RMAC, passing Jonn McLain&nbsp;on the list. He also aided teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6788">Cole Thurness</a>&nbsp;in becoming the Eagles' all-time leader in receptions while tying Tevon Wright's program record 26 receiving touchdowns with a four-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter. After jumping into the starting lineup in week seven, Geil, the&nbsp;Defensive Player of the Week, has made an impact for the Chadron State defense by leading the Eagles in tackles in each of his last six games. In his latest performance against Black Hills State, he registered 10 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. He also recovered a fumble for the Eagles at the beginning of the fourth quarter, which led to Chadron State's final touchdown drive of the game. For the third time in the 2021 season, Jones is the Special Team Player of the Week. He accounted for 15 of the Eagles' 57 points on the road Saturday against the Yellow Jackets, connecting on all six PATs and each of his three field-goal attempts. He also punted twice for a 52-yard average to go along with a 55.7 average in his 11 kickoffs. The junior closes the season with a perfect 42-for-42 mark on PATs, becoming the only kicker in the league to hit all his extra point tries with more than 11 attempts. Chadron State sweeps all three RMAC Football Weekly Honors

The Alliance High School Volleyball teams celebrated another successful season at a team dinner Friday night.&nbsp; The Bulldogs had winning seasons at the Reserve, Junior Varisty and Varsity level.&nbsp; The AHS&nbsp; Varsity finished with a 19-17 record, winning the Douglas and McCook Tournaments and qualifying for the Class B District finals for an 8th straight year.&nbsp; 

Seniors,&nbsp; Amauri Browning,&nbsp; Avah Steggall and&nbsp; Shelbee Burke along with exchange student Ella Oezen and manager Leyton Schnell were honored.&nbsp; Head Coach Jessica Kaiser, JV Coach Heather Jensen and Reserve Coach Angie Hiemstra announced team awards, which were voted on by the team members.&nbsp;&nbsp;

AHS Volleyball celebrates season

&nbsp; Superb shooting and ball control by the visiting team, in the first half of Saturday night's men's basketball game in Chadron's Chicoine Center, led to a 10-point victory over the Chadron State College men. The Texas A&amp;M University-Kingsville Javelinas turned the ball over nearly half as much as the Eagles in the first 20 minutes, while shooting 54.8 percent from the field and 5-for-10 from three in an 84-74 non-conference win for Kingsville. The visiting team's first half field goal percentage included eight more attempts than CSC, given a turnover margin of 11 for the Eagles and six for the Javelinas, plus three team offensive rebounds. Kingsville led 39-31 at the half. Despite fewer attempts, the Eagles nearly matched their opponent percentage-wise at 52.2 percent shooting in the first half. They also outshot the visitors from three, firing 71.4 percent. A 10-2 run by Kingsville began after the Eagles'&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7855">CJ Jennings</a>&nbsp;hit a three at 14:12 to close the CSC's deficit to 13-8. During the run, CSC turned the ball over twice and hit only one of four shots. The rest of the half was Chadron State chipping into the Kingsville lead, and the visitor answering nearly shot for shot. In the second half, CSC mostly kept pace with its opponent. The Eagles improved in the turnover and rebound departments, but its shooting dipped slightly while Kingsville's did not. CSC got it to within a five-point margin as late as 3:47 to play, but was hit with four fouls down the stretch while TAMUK went 8-for-8 at the line and was 2-of-3 from the field in the final four minutes. Kingsville's Derek Luna was the star of the game, hitting 10 of 13 shots from the floor, which included 4-for-6 three point shooting. He was also perfect in four foul line tries for 28 points. The Javelinas' CJ Smith and Marcus Jones helped with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Smith added a game-high six assists and two steals. Jones was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field with both of his three point attempts good. The game's leading rebounder was starting forward Dayante McClellan with nine boards. CSC swept by Texas teams to start season

&nbsp; The Chadron State College offense was in high gear and both the defense and the special teams provided lots of help as the Eagles closed out their season with a 57-6 win over Black Hills State in Spearfish on Saturday.&nbsp; The victory boosted CSC's record to 6-5 overall and 5-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Black Hills finishes at 4-7 and 2-7. The Eagles rolled up 492 yards of total offense and scored seven touchdowns while the defense came up with six takeaways and placekicker&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7947">Gunnar Jones</a>&nbsp;made all three of his field goal attempts and all six of his extra point tries. Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6718">Jeydon Cox</a>, the game's leading rusher with 12 carries for 99 yards, got the Eagles off to a fast start by scoring on a 29-yard run on their first possession.&nbsp; Midway in the opening quarter,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7942">Jahvonte Hair</a>&nbsp;intercepted a Black Hills pass and returned it 31 yards to set up the first of Jones' field goal, a 29-yarder. Shortly afterwards, Black Hills ran the ball for two first downs, then posted its only touchdown on a 42-yard pass from quarterback Chance Eben to running back Nolan Susel that made the score 9-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles scored three touchdowns in the second period take a 30-6 halftime lead. The first came on a one-yard shovel pass from quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6739">Dalton Holst</a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6788">Cole Thurness</a>, both of whom wrapped up their careers Saturday with some outstanding numbers that enhanced their places in the CSC record books. Cox went 17 yards up the middle for his second touchdown in the middle of the second stanza and with 2:18 left before halftime Holst connected with wide receiver&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7941">Ahlonte Hair</a>&nbsp;for a 71-yard scoring strike that capped a 99-yard drive after the Yellow Jackets had downed their punt on the CSC one. Jones kicked field goals of 43 and 30 yards to open the scoring in the third period.&nbsp; The first was preceded by a 24-yard end-around pass from wide receiver Mikelson to tight end&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6748">Peter Krohn</a>, and the second was preceded by cornerback&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6769">Bobby Peele's</a>&nbsp;interception.&nbsp; It was Peele's sixth pick this fall and ninth in 15 games with the Eagles. As the third frame was drawing to a close, Holst connected on a 38-yard scoring pass to Mikelson, who got wide open behind the Black Hills defenders, putting the Eagles ahead 43-6. Holst and Thurness, both seniors and CSC stalwarts the past five years, counting last year's COVID-shortened season, hooked up on a 32-yard pass early in the fourth quarter and completed the drive two plays later with a four-yard toss. Holst finished the day by completing 16 of 22 passes for 236 yards and four touchdowns, giving the Gillette, Wyo., product 11,461 yards and 97 touchdowns through the air, both Chadron State career records. The old marks belonged to Jonn McLain, the Eagles' signal caller 2010-14. &nbsp; Thurness was the Eagles' leading receiver Saturday with eight catches for 99 yards and two TDs, allowing him to also rank among the school record-holders. &nbsp;The Rapid City native finished with 193 receptions to break Cory Brooks' record of 188 dating back to 1992-95, and caught seven TD passes this season to match Tevon Wright's career record of 26 that was set in 2019.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; CSC also scored with 5:55 remaining when alternate quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6732">Mason Hamilton</a>&nbsp;hit Krohn with an 11-yard pass in the end zone.&nbsp; Three Eagles besides Peele intercepted passes Saturday. The others were&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7942">Jahvonte Hair</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6746">Noah Kerchal</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6767">Hunter O'Connor</a>. Black Hills finishes at 4-7 and 2-7. Eagles crush rival Black Hills State 57-6 to finish season on record setting day

High School football seasons always seem to go very fast. You start in the heat of August and next thing you know&nbsp; it's the chill of November.&nbsp; You play through bad breaks,&nbsp; injuries and long road trips, but you love hearing the your hometown band and fans at home games and the players form friendships that will make you smile when you think back in later years.&nbsp; Despite an 0-9 record, The Alliance Bulldogs played with heart and effort all season and celebrated with family and friends at their end of year banquet Thursday night.

Head Coach Chris Seebohm thanked the Seniors and their familys for their help and support all season.&nbsp; Coach Seebohm spoke about each Senior and added some, behind the scenes stories that had everyone laughing.&nbsp; &nbsp;Seniors this year were....Nathan Ackerman, Jaden Dvorak, Pierce Libsack, Isaiah Martinez, Jaden McCracken, Kellen Muhr, Nolan Nagaki, Wade Sanders, Dan Steele, Zane Stoike and Mats Albrecht.&nbsp;

Coach Seebohm presented the following Awards, which were voted on by the players and coaches.

Wade Sanders and Nolan Nagaki were also named All District 6 and Isaiah Martinez was Honorable Mention All District 6.&nbsp; All Conference and All State Awards will be announced in the next few weeks

Bulldog Football Honors Seniors and Celebrates Season

&nbsp; With the mainstays at the end of last season returning and joined by an array of promising newcomers that Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/coaches.aspx?rc=551">Shane Paben</a>&nbsp;landed, hopes are high that the Chadron State College men's basketball team will be solid this season—the best in a long time. The Eagles will open their season this weekend by hosting Texas A&amp;M International based at Laredo on Friday night and Texas A&amp;M-Kingsville on Saturday night in the Chicoine Center.&nbsp; Both games will tip off at 7 o'clock.&nbsp; The contests are part of the "conference challenge" pitting Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference &nbsp;teams against those from the Lone Star Conference.&nbsp; Nearly all the men's and women's teams from both conferences are involved.&nbsp; The CSC women will be playing at Kingsville on Friday afternoon and at Laredo on Saturday afternoon.&nbsp; The challenges began in 2017-18 and continued the next two seasons, but were interrupted by the coronavirus last year.&nbsp; The CSC men have won one of the previous six games against the same two teams they will meet this weekend, defeating International in Chadron in 2018.&nbsp; It's anticipated that the CSC men will have a major "challenge" against Kingsville. Division I Texas A&amp;M edged the Javalinas by only 76-72 at College Station last Monday night. Regardless of how the Eagles fare in their opening games, Paben is confident they will be greatly improved this season. He says the team has more talent, height and depth than it had last year when it finished with a 5-8 record during the COVID shortened season Paben has emphasized he did not accept the job at Chadron State in the summer of 2020 to have a mediocre program.&nbsp;&nbsp; The Eagles' highlight last year was qualifying for the RMAC playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade, but the coach said there's much more to be accomplished. The returnees from a year ago include guard Teddy Parham, who led the team in scoring at 14.8 points a game while shooting 40.7 percent (37-91) from 3-point range. The other backcourt veterans are point guard&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7854">Marcus Jefferson</a>, who led the team in assists with 52 and averaged 10.2 points, along with&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7852">KJ Harris</a>, who chipped in 2.9 points a game. Another veteran is senior swingman&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7850">Brady Delimont</a>&nbsp;of Ainsworth, who holds Nebraska's high school record for most career 3-pointers, and has continued to display long range capabilities during his three years with the Eagles, knocking down 93 treys while shooting 38 percent from afar. Also back from last year is 6-4&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7853">Bryant Jefferson</a>, who filled in at the post most of last season after the team's leading scorer,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4325">Jacob Jefferson</a>&nbsp;(no relation), had his career ended by a nasty knee injury in game seven.&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7853">Bryant Jefferson</a>&nbsp;isn't expected to light up the scoreboard, but he's solid at both ends of the court and is expected to be a big contributor again. Chadron fans are familiar with another backcourt transfer. &nbsp;He's&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8009">Mason Hiemstra</a>, the Panhandle's leading scorer at 22.4 points a game and also the assist leader with 109 as a senior at Alliance High in 2018-19.&nbsp; Hiemstra spent the last two years at Hastings College and led the Broncos in scoring last winter at 15.7 points a game. It was Hiemstra's idea to switch to the Eagles, and Paben calls him "a good addition." He can score, handle the ball and has the quickness to play solid defense. The 2021-22 roster also has added two 6-foot-7 transfers who are expected to play key roles immediately. They are&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8006">Porter Anderson</a>, who averaged 9.8 points and shot 65.8 percent from the field last winter for Otero Junior College's 15-5 team, and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8012">Taj Toney</a>, who started at Bluefield State, a Division II team in West Virginia last season. Bluefield played just eight game a year ago, but Toney scored in double figures in six of them. Four true freshmen also are on the Eagles' roster. Paben says they're excellent prospects but he isn't ready to disclose which ones may redshirt and which ones will earn playing time in 2021-22.&nbsp; They are&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8007">Beau Bragg</a>, who's 6-7 and averaged 16.1 points and 10.4 rebounds at Crandall High in Texas last year;&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8175">Tejaun Hale</a>, a 6-4 graduate of Oakland Tech in California, where he was the conference's Most Valuable Player and averaged 18 points and eight rebounds;&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8010">Val Leone</a>, who's 6-3 and scored 1,276 points during his career at Fowler High in Colorado; and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8011">Caden Sclafani</a>, who's also 6-3 and averaged 10 points for The Colony High team in Texas that won 24 games last season. The roster includes two more intriguing players who won't suit up this weekend because of health issues but could make a big impact before the season gets too far along, Paben believes. They are&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8008">Joniya Gadson</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8172">Olgierd Dmochewicz</a>, both just a shade under seven-feet tall. Gadson was a starter on back-to-back Class 7A state championship teams in Florida, saw some action during his two years at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, but suffered a concussion in an auto accident that sidelined him in 2019-20.&nbsp; His condition has improved and he still hasn't been cleared to play. There's no timetable on when he may become available, but obviously the sooner the better. Dmochewicz, a native of Poland and dubbed "the Big O" by his teammates, is only 20 and is a freshman.&nbsp; He has a back ailment and could be forced to redshirt, but he appears to have a bright future if he can overcome the problem. Seven-footers don't come along often in Division II. When asked how he has been able to land so many promising players, Paben said he "just keeps beating the bushes," working almost non-stop trying to round up players who will make the Eagles competitive, maybe a national tournament contender.&nbsp; It's been 20 years since Chadron State men's basketball has won more games than it lost.&nbsp; After this weekend's twin-bill with the Texas teams, the Eagles will play at Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 16 and the University of Sioux Falls on Nov. 19 before hosting Haskell Indian Nations University from Lawrence, Kan., on Nov. 21. During Thanksgiving, the Chadron State team will travel to Puerto Rico to play three games against teams from that island nation.&nbsp; The trip is another indication of how Paben is working to put some spunk in the basketball program. Upon their return, the Eagles will open their RMAC schedule by hosting Fort Lewis and Western Colorado on Dec. 3 and 4.&nbsp; They'll also be at home Dec. 17 and 18 to play Colorado-Colorado Springs and New Mexico Highlands. The RMAC coaches' preseason poll placed the Eagles 12th among the 15 teams.&nbsp; That's certainly not where Paben intends for them to finish.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dmochewicz, a native of Poland and dubbed "the Big O" by his teammates, is only 20 and is a freshman.&nbsp; He has a back ailment and could be forced to redshirt, but he appears to have a bright future if he can overcome the problem. Seven-footers don't come along often in Division II. When asked how he has been able to land so many promising players, Paben said he "just keeps beating the bushes," working almost non-stop trying to round up players who will make the Eagles competitive, maybe a national tournament contender.&nbsp; It's been 20 years since Chadron State men's basketball has won more games than it lost.&nbsp; After this weekend's twin-bill with the Texas teams, the Eagles will play at Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 16 and the University of Sioux Falls on Nov. 19 before hosting Haskell Indian Nations University from Lawrence, Kan., on Nov. 21. During Thanksgiving, the Chadron State team will travel to Puerto Rico to play three games against teams from that island nation.&nbsp; The trip is another indication of how Paben is working to put some spunk in the basketball program. Upon their return, the Eagles will open their RMAC schedule by hosting Fort Lewis and Western Colorado on Dec. 3 and 4.&nbsp; They'll also be at home Dec. 17 and 18 to play Colorado-Colorado Springs and New Mexico Highlands. The RMAC coaches' preseason poll placed the Eagles 12th among the 15 teams.&nbsp; That's certainly not where Paben intends for them to finish.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Chadron State Men's Basketball Season Preview

After having a 0-13 record during last year's pandemic-plagued season, the only way the Chadron State College women's basketball team can go is up. And, Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/coaches.aspx?rc=524">Janet Raymer</a>&nbsp;is confident that will happen.

Now in her sixth season as the Lady Eagles' coach, Raymer hit the recruiting trail hard during the off-season, landing five transfers and 10 freshmen. They have joined the seven returnees from a year ago, giving the Eagles a 22-player roster.

That's about twice the number that usually suits up and sees game-action, but Raymer believes the transfers, in particular, will give her team a big boost. Nearly all the freshmen, she said, will redshirt while being groomed to take the court in a year or so.

Just two of the Eagles' returnees are seniors. They include&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7871">Jori Peters</a>, the hustling Mitchell product who has been a sparkplug and the Eagles' primary ball-handler in nearly every game the team has played since she stepped on campus in the fall of 2018. The other is&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7865">Bailey Brooks</a>, a Douglas, Wyo., native who arrived a year earlier than Peters, but missed the 2018-19 season because of injuries.

Both Peters and Brooks were highly successful high school athletes and want to wrap up their college careers on a positive note. Peters averaged 9.5 points and Brooks 6.3 last season.

Other returnees include junior&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7870">Brittni McCully</a>&nbsp;of Mullen, who, like Peters, started all 13 games last season, seldom scores big, but is a great teammate, and sophomores&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7872">Tatum Peterson</a>&nbsp;of Glenwood Springs, Colo., who 6-1 is the team's "big," and Meagan Ross of Sidney who scored 38 points in 10 games last season.

Raymer thinks Peterson, who was sidelined all her freshman year in 2019-20 because of a knee injury, is ready to make a big contribution this season now that she's healthy

The Eagles also return redshirt freshmen Shay Powers and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7875">Olivia Waufle</a>, both Coloradans who as true freshmen last season played in all 13 games and still have four years of eligibility since college athletes had that participation waived.

Both are athletic and showed much promise last season, particularly in the later games. For instance, they combined to grab 17 rebounds against South Dakota Mines and joined forces to score 24 points in the season finale against Colorado Christian.

The fact is all the returning players had some good games last season, but consistency was a problem. Hopefully, the good games will come more frequently this time around.

The transfers joining the Eagles include Riley Aione and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8029">Samiyah Worrell</a>, who were the leading scorers at Northwest College at Powell, Wyo., last season. Worrell led the Trappers at 14 points a game and was named to the Region 9 all-star team. Aione averaged 9.4 points and 5.9 rebounds and blocked 37 shots during the team's 10-12 season. At 6-1, she gives the Eagles some badly needed height.

<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8013">Emily Achter</a>, a 5-7 Australian, averaged 4.6 points and shot 38.9 percent from the field the past two years at Casper College, which won its first 22 games in 2020-2021 before losing the regional championship and national tournament games by narrow margins.

Another transfer is 5-5&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8024">Olyvia Pacheco</a>, who averaged 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds the past two seasons at Montana's Miles County Community College. The Pioneers finished last year with a 24-2 record and won the Region 13 championship, advancing to the national tournament, where they were 1-1.

After practicing for a month, Raymer says she's pleased with what she's seen from the transfers. It makes sense to believe that if the Eagles are to make significant improvement this season, much of the impetus will have to come from the transfers.

The coach added that the freshman group also has promise, but said most of them "aren't quite ready" for the pace of the college games.

The Eagles played an exhibition game last week against Colorado State in Fort Collins, losing by a 78-43 score. Peters was the Eagles' top scorer with 16 points followed by Brooks and Peterson with eight apiece.

The CSC women will officially open their season this weekend as part of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference-Lone Star Conference "crossover" on the road to take on Texas A&amp;M-Kingsville on Friday and Texas A&amp;M International in Laredo on Saturday. Both games will be played in the afternoon.

Following the trip to Texas, the Eagles will visit Wayne State on Thursday, Nov. 18, then host Mount Marty College from Yankton, S.D., on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 2:30 in the Chicoine Center.

The November schedule will close with an exhibition game at the University of Wyoming on the 22nd and a contest at Nebraska-Kearney on the 27th. The Eagles will open their RMAC slate by hosting Fort Lewis and Western Colorado on Dec. 3 and 4.
