An 82-year-old Alliance woman died in a fire Tuesday afternoon. Alliance Fire Chief Troy Shoemaker said his department was called to a residence at 10th and Grand Ave on Tuesday to a report of a fire. Initially, the report said there was an explosion at the home. Shoemaker said that was not the case.
According to the Alliance Police Department website, officers responded to the home and found the resident aflamed. The fire was extinguished. The resident was determined to be deceased on scene. Shoemaker said the state fire marshal from Ogallala was requested to investigate the fire.
The victim is identified as 82-year-old Dixie Howell of Alliance.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Bates-Gould Chapel with the Reverend Gene Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. A luncheon will follow from noon to 2 p.m. at the Eagles Club. Memorials may be given to Dobby’s Frontier Town c/o of Lori White, 423 Hudson Ave., Alliance, NE 69301 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
