Keisei Tominaga scored 23 points and registered a career-high five assists. He hit 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Brice Williams also scored 23 points and hit 4-of-6 from distance and was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line. Jamarques Lawrence added 15 points and was 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Juwan Gary also reached double figures with 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.&nbsp;

Williams scored eight of the Huskers' first 10 points, including two 3-pointers. Indiana (19-14) held a 15-13 lead at the under-12 media timeout, but a triple by Lawrence and back-to-back 3s by Williams helped the Huskers go up 22-17. After Indiana pulled within 33-27, Tominaga fired up the Target Center crowd with back-to-back triples from the top of the arc to give Nebraska a 39-27 lead and spark a 17-0 run to end the half. After Gary drained a pair of free throws, Lawrence and Gary hit back-to-back corner 3s, and Tominaga closed out the half with a 30-footer, his fourth 3-pointer of the half that gave him a team-high 18 points at the break.&nbsp;

The Huskers led by 25 at 54-29 in the second half before Indiana cut it to 56-38 after a 9-2 spurt. But that was as close as the Hoosiers would get, as NU built the lead to as many as 33 points (88-55) before closing out the 93-66 victory.&nbsp;

During the afternoon and evening hours on Saturday March 9, 2024, investigators conducted alcohol compliance checks in Box Butte County. This project was supported by grant #1848 form the Panhandle Public Health District.

In total, 24 businesses were checked.&nbsp; One of those businesses sold alcohol to a minor for a compliance rate of 95.8%.&nbsp; The business checked the minor’s identification before sale.

The Artist in Residence Program at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is in full swing! This month, a landscape photographer will make his home in the park for two weeks. He will host a free special event, “Traditional Black &amp; White Landscape Film Photography” on Saturday, March 23rd from 10-12pm.

Emery’s work was unanimously chosen by a panel of ranger staff, park volunteers, and local Sioux County residents. “I love his work!” said Jean Ahrens, one of the panelists.

Emery is a self-taught photographer who specializes in black and white landscapes captured through both large format film and digital cameras. Influenced by the classic black and white photography tradition, his work focuses on distilling landscapes into their essential elements: the play of light and dark, subtle tonal variations, and the forms that define the land and sky. Through his lens, John brings the beauty of remote and wild locations to a wider audience.

Based near Tampa, FL, Emery divides his time between his home and travels across the country with his wife. His photography has been featured in juried galleries spanning from Florida to Wisconsin.

Emery will live at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument for two weeks to fully immerse himself in the park and local community experience. In return, he will donate one art piece completed during his experience. This artwork will be on permanent display at Agate and on their website.

Saturday’s event will begin with a short walk from the visitor center to the Niobrara River. Emery will demonstrate what makes an excellent photo in the environment. A black and white camera will be available to practice your shots with him. Then, everyone will return to the visitor center to learn the photo development part of this trade indoors.

CHADRON – Chadron State College has received official confirmation from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) that the CSC master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling meets the rigorous standards set by the counseling profession.

This accreditation is a mark of excellence that affirms the CSC program teaches the necessary knowledge and skills, and that it is both stable and well-supported financially and professionally, according to the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cacrep.org/" target="_blank">CACREP</a>&nbsp;website.

By attaining CACREP accreditation, CSC President Ron K. Patterson wrote in a message to campus that the Counseling program has demonstrated its commitment to enhancing the educational effectiveness of its Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. The accreditation also benefits CSC graduates by simplifying state licensure processes and opening additional career opportunities. For example, it enables alumni to work at Veteran’s Administrations, bill Tricare, and become Fully Functioning Army Substance Abuse Program Practitioners.

Patterson thanked Dr. Katy Woods, Counselor Education department chair, and Dr. Tara Wilson, CACREP liaison, along with past and current faculty and staff who helped achieve the goal.

“Overall, achieving CACREP accreditation is a crucial milestone in our efforts to attract and retain students, while also broadening the horizons for our graduates. Chadron State College would like to thank the Counselor Education department for their strong efforts in securing the CACREP accreditation for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program,” Patterson said.

The CACREP accreditation team visited campus to conduct its formal review Oct. 23-25, 2023. The accreditation is effective until March 31, 2032.

CSC obtains accreditation for master's degree program for Mental Health Counseling

CHADRON – Professional barrel racer and motivational speaker Amberley Snyder will speak April 10 at 7 p.m. in Chadron State College’s Memorial Hall Auditorium during 2024 Spring Daze. The event is free and open to the public, however seat&nbsp;<a href="https://www.csc.edu/conferencing/galaxy-series/" target="_blank">reservations</a>&nbsp;are required.

As one of the only paralyzed barrel racers in the world, Snyder overcame the challenges she faced and learned to get back on her horse. She is the subject of the 2019 Netflix original movie Walk. Ride. Rodeo., a biopic focusing on her journey leading up to and following a vehicle accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down.

According to Snyder, she fell in love with horses early in life and began barrel racing and competing in other rodeo events at a young age. She subsequently competed in junior and high school rodeos, winning multiple titles and awards.

She qualified for the National High School Rodeo Finals in pole bending in 2009, her senior year of high school, and later won the National Little Britches Rodeo Association All-Around Cowgirl World Championship.

Snyder was elected as Utah FFA State President in 2010 and was looking forward to serving her office term and competing in college rodeo, when her world came crashing down. Snyder was driving through Sinclair, Wyoming, on her way to the Denver Stock Show and Rodeo, when she looked down at her map and crossed the centerline.

Snyder attempted to get back into her lane but overcorrected and rolled her truck. She was ejected and slammed into a fence post, breaking her back.

She underwent five hours of emergency surgery and was told by her doctor that she would never regain use of or feeling in her legs.

Four months later, she was back on her horse, and 18 months after the accident, Snyder returned to competing in rodeo, with a seatbelt on her saddle.

She went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Agriculture Education, and later earned a master’s in School Counseling.

In 2015, she was voted Fan Choice at the world’s richest one day rodeo, The American. Snyder was just 0.6 seconds short of the winning time and received a standing ovation from more than 40,000 fans.

When&nbsp;Walk. Ride. Rodeo.&nbsp;came about, Snyder served as her own co-producer and stunt double. She also co-wrote the song, “Ride,” for the soundtrack and published a book to accompany the film, titled, “Walk Ride Rodeo: A Story About Amberley Snyder.”

Snyder competes in the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association as a barrel racer and breakaway roper. She qualified for the PRCA Wilderness Circuit Finals in 2021 and 2022 and has been recognized by the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame and the National Cowboy Heritage Museum and Hall of Fame.

Snyder also travels the nation sharing her story of triumph over tragedy and has become one of the most sought-after social influencers and motivational speakers in western sports. According to her&nbsp;<a href="https://amberleysnyder.org/about/#hero-anchor" target="_blank">website</a>, she hopes to inspire others that no matter what happens, they have the strength to overcome it.

University of Nebraska Interim President Chris Kabourek&nbsp;announced Thursday that he has appointed Dennis Leblanc, executive associate AD for academics, to serve as interim athletic director.

Leblanc has been with Husker Athletics for more than 40 years, having joined in 1983 as a member of the track and field staff. He has served in his current role since 2015. Under his leadership, Nebraska has achieved a record-high 95 percent Graduation Success Rate, ranking Nebraska second among 110 public FBS schools. Nebraska student-athletes’ cumulative 3.370 GPA last spring was the highest ever recorded. Nearly 4,000 Husker student-athletes have earned their degrees during Leblanc’s tenure.

“Dennis loves Nebraska, he cares deeply about the young women and men in our program, and he has a proven record of supporting their academic success,” Kabourek said. “Dennis and I are completely aligned on our vision for Nebraska to compete at the highest levels on the field, on the court and in the classroom. He will provide exactly the steady hand and trusted voice that we need during this interim period. I am so grateful to Dennis and Coreen for answering this call to serve and I know Husker Athletics will be in exceptionally capable hands under his leadership.”

An Alliance woman who allegedly stabbed an intimate partner in July of 2023 and faces attempted murder charges and had her pretrial hearing on Wednesday.&nbsp; 29-year-old Becca Ashing was in court where court documents from Box Butte County District Court indicate that the State of Nebraska filed a Motion in Limine and a Motion to Endorse Witnesses. 

Box Butte County District Clerk Kevin Horn explains to Panhandle Post that&nbsp;Limine means testimony not allowed by the Judge and endorse witnesses is basically adding people to an already established witness list.&nbsp;

The court decided that the motions will be heard on Monday March 18th.

Ashing faces one count of Attempted First Degree Murder, a Class II Felony. Other charges include Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony, a Class IIA Felony, and Domestic Assault in the 2nd degree, a Class IIA Felony in the stabbing of Cody Daul on July 13. 2023.

Her trial is slated for April 15th – 17th.

Scammers have become sophisticated at sending messages that look like official documents from the IRS, state agencies, state officials, tax software companies, or your own tax professional. They may copy language, logos, or fonts from the IRS to make it look as legitimate as possible. These scammers are seeking to steal personally identifiable information from your official tax documents.

Popular tax scams may include messages about tax refunds or statements. They may contain a copy of the official IRS seal, leading you to click on links to check your “tax refund statement” or “fill out a form to get your refund.” These links may lead to identity theft or malware on your devices that could give scammers further access to your personal data.

It is important to note that the IRS will not contact you by email, text message, or social media to get your personal information. Take extreme caution if you get an unsolicited contact about your tax information.

Another frequently reported tax scam involves imposters pretending they’re calling from the IRS. They claim that you owe taxes and demand you pay right now, usually through payment methods that are hard to reverse, like a gift card, prepaid debit card, wire transfer, or cashier’s check.

Even if your caller ID shows it is the IRS calling, it could be a scammer. The IRS will always contact you by mail first. The IRS will also not require a specific type of payment.

Attorney General Hilgers and State Treasurer Briese Warn Nebraskans about Tax-Related Scams

STATEWIDE-&nbsp;Over 150 volunteers will be mobilizing in communities across the state on Saturday to continue fighting for medical cannabis access. Supporters are hosting over 50 petition signing events in over 30 cities and towns on Saturday, March 16th. They are calling the event “Shamrock Signing Saturday”.

Supporters are hosting over 50 petition signing events in over 30 cities and towns on Saturday, March 16th. They are calling the event “Shamrock Signing Saturday”.NMM is leading the effort to place two statutory medical cannabis initiatives on the ballot before voters this November. Supporters need to collect 87,000 verified voter signatures on each petition by July 3, 2024.&nbsp; Additionally, they are required to qualify 38 counties with signatures from at least 5% of the counties voter population.Nebraska families and patients with severe and debilitating illnesses called on state lawmakers to enact a compassionate cannabis policy for over ten years before they decided to go to the ballot. The campaign collected more than enough signatures in 2020, but were later tossed from the ballot after a legal challenge. In 2022, the death of their financial backers forced them to run a fully grassroots campaign where they came up 8,000 signatures short.“Nebraskans across the state overwhelmingly support medical cannabis access. Most recent polling shows at least 70% approval statewide, including a majority of every demographic group and all political affiliations.
