OGALLALA, Neb.-There's nothing that will bring an abrupt end to the fun at the pool like a missed trip to the restroom.

Officials said the Ogallala Outdoor pool will be closed until further notice for cleaning and filtering of the water after a patron had an accident in the water.

City officials kindly reminded patrons that the pool is not the best place to bring a child who is not feeling well.

Officials did not give a projected reopening date.

Ogallala pool temporarily closed due to foreign floatables

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.-It's not uncommon to see Facebook posts from local police departments looking for the owners of lost dogs or cats. But posts for lost tortoises are much rarer.

Scottsbluff police took to Facebook to ask residents to check for their pet tortoise after the big boy was found strolling the streets of the town on Monday.

Fortunately, the owners were found and the tortoise, named Little Foot, was returned unharmed. But not before some photo ops and getting to know the men and women in blue.

No charges were filed against Little Foot.

Scottsbluff police return wandering tortoise to owner

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Four people ended up in the hospital after what authorities are calling a fireworks “mishap” in a Rapid City suburb. 

The Rapid City Tribune reports firefighters were called late Thursday evening to a grass fire in Rapid Valley. 

According to a report from the Pennington County Fire Service and the Rapid Valley Fire Department, the fire stemmed from a “mishap” during a private fireworks display. 

Bystanders were able to bring the fire under control but not before the four people suffered minor injuries. 

They were taken to Monument Health Rapid City Hospital.

South Dakota sees clunky rollout of medical marijuana rules

LEAD, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say one person suffered life-threatening injuries in a weekend apartment fire in the northern Black Hills. 

KELO-TV reports crews responded to the fire burning on South Stone Street in Lead Saturday morning.

 Heavy smoke was coming from the building when crews arrived.

 Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to other nearby buildings.

  An ambulance crew took the injured person to Monument Hospital in Deadwood. 

The Red Cross and local churches are helping residents displaced by the fire.

1 suffers life-threatening injuries in Lead, SD apartment fire

CHADRON – The Chadron State College Community Chorus will have its first rehearsal Aug. 26 in Memorial Hall’s Room 126 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The chorus will perform concerts Nov. 14 at 3 p.m., and April 9, 2022, at 3 p.m.

Chorus Director Dr. Joel Schreuder said he is aware singing is a higher risk activity for spreading COVID-19. He said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention highly recommends choir members are fully vaccinated before participating or wear a mask and social distance.

“My hope is that, before our first rehearsal, everyone will have the protection and peace of mind that a vaccination provides. However, this is your choice,” Schreuder said. “If any individual members of the group decide to wear a mask during rehearsal, I would ask that they purchase or make a singer’s mask.”

Since a vaccine is widely available, Schreuder does not intend to require masks during rehearsals or performances, subject to change if CSC policies change.

"Ruby may be attempting to come back to our community," Alliance Police Department said. "Bingham is currently serving a sentence for drug possession." If you see Bingham or have any knowledge of her whereabouts notify local law enforcement.

Chadron Community Hospital to offer sports series for special needs children

On July 9 Chadron Police Officers were called to the intersection of East First Street and Bordeaux Street for a fight between a man and a woman walking on the railroad tracks. 

The man and woman were both covered in blood. 

The man had wounds to the head including a large gash and bite marks.

 The woman had scrapes on her elbows and legs. 

"The male and female were interviewed and it was learned that the two of them had been involved in a physical altercation with one another," Chadron Police Chief Richard Hickstein said. "A search of each person was conducted and while searching the female, a small baggie containing a white substance was located. This substance was later field tested and tested positive for cocaine. The Chadron Fire Department was called to the scene and Chadron Rescue Units transported both subjects to the Chadron Community Hospital."

At the Chadron Community Hospital the man and woman received treatment for their wounds. 

"The investigation continued and it was divulged that during the physical altercation, a railroad spike was used as a weapon and was likely to have caused some of the injuries to the male," Hickstein said.&nbsp;

Chadron police arrested 29 year-old Samantha Rouillard for Possession of Cocaine (Class IV Felony0 and Second Degree Domestic Assault (Class IIIA Felony). 

Rouillard was transported to the Dawes County Jail.

The Chadron Police Department was assisted by the Chadron Fire Department and the Crawford Fire Department.

Ricketts says in a news release that about 25 Nebraska State Patrol troopers traveled to Del Rio, Texas, in June to provide law enforcement assistance to the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

The deployment was made at the request of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and was expected to last up to 16 days. 

Both Ricketts and Abbott, who are Republicans, have been critical about Democratic President Joe Biden’s border and immigration policies.

 Ricketts has said little about what duties the Nebraska troopers are performing.

 By comparison, the historic snowstorm that pummeled Omaha in October 1997 left 150,000 in the dark.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming's governor says he's looking at how the state might send National Guard troops or other help to bolster security at the border with Mexico.

 Republican Gov. Mark Gordon said in a statement Wednesday he has already offered “aerial assets” but it was determined that might not be the best approach. 

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey wrote other governors last month seeking help dealing with what they called an immigration “crisis” at the border.

Due to the recent wind and hail storm on Friday July 9, 2021 there are a lot of tree branches down around town. The City of Alliance, asks that you move these branches on to the parkade and we will have crews come by and pick them up.&nbsp; &nbsp;Also, the landfill&nbsp; will be open, Sunday July 11th from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm for yard waste disposal only.

Alliance clean up continues-City landfill open extra hours

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — An Israeli violinist is set to headline the Rushmore Music Festival later this month.

 The Rapid City Journal reports that Hagai Shaham will perform at concerts July 24 and July 25 in Rapid City and Spearfish as part of the festival.

 The festival is one of two events in the United States where Shaham will appear this year. 

The Rushmore Music Festival begins July 10 and will offer 11 family-friendly concerts open to the public at various venues, including Black Hills State University. 

Organizers are planning for socially distanced crowds at venues and are encouraging people to wear masks.

Israeli violinist headed to Rushmore Music Festival

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — The U.S. Air Force's new B-21 bomber will be stationed first at a base near Rapid City.

 The Rapid City Journal reports the bomber will be stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base. 

The Air Force says the bomber will be tested at Edwards Air Force Base in California before it becomes active at Ellsworth in the mid-2020s. 

The B-21 is intended to replace the B-1 Lancer and B-2 Spirit bombers to form a two-bomber fleet of B-21s and modified B-52s. 

The Air Force awarded the B-21 design and manufacturing contract to Northrop Grumman in 2015. 

Plans call for constructing at least 100 B-21s at an average cost of about $639 million each.

Nearly three-quarters of the Missouri River basin is currently experiencing either drought or abnormally dry conditions — particularly upstream of Sioux City, Iowa — and the amount of snow in the mountains that feed into the river was also below average this year.
