&nbsp;Jack Nielsen (John David), March 10, 1939, to October 2, 2025 (86 years), was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska to Jens Christian Nielsen and his wife Edna Gertrude Morehead.&nbsp; He graduated May 24, 1956, as Alliance High School Valedictorian and headed to the University of Nebraska, joining Delta Upsilon Fraternity.&nbsp; Jack participated in many activities at the University.&nbsp; On May 2, 1959, he was initiated into the Society of Innocents and from 1959-1960 he was President of the University of Nebraska Student Council.&nbsp; Jack received a degree in Mechanical Engineering.&nbsp; He then served time in the Army Reserves, spending six months stationed in El Paso, Texas working on the missile program.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After his time in the army reserves, Jack returned home to farm in Alliance and worked on the BN railroad in the winter.&nbsp; The Burlington Northern offered him a position in Lincoln, Nebraska as train master. While there, Jack joined IBM in 1966.&nbsp; In May of 1967, he met his wife Barbara, a graduate student at the University of Nebraska.&nbsp; They were married November 18, 1967.&nbsp; They had a daughter Chris in 1970 and moved to Chicago in 1972 with IBM.&nbsp; Barbara finished her doctoral thesis and their daughter Beth was born in 1973.&nbsp; In 1974 daughter Sara was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana where Jack was an IBM Marketing Manager.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Soon Jack and family were back in Kenilworth, Illinois with IBM where Jack decided his life goal was to return home to Alliance and farm.&nbsp; He started Diamond Hill Farms in Alliance, Nebraska in January 1977 and expanded locations to Wyoming, Colorado, and Texas while a chip grower for Frito Lay.&nbsp; In addition, he served on the board of Western Nebraska Savings Company, the Alliance Cooperative, and on the Potato Board.

In 2010, he bought Nebraska Northwestern Railroad in Chadron and later bought an investment property in Durango, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp; Still his heart was in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; He loved Alliance and its people.&nbsp; He was proud of his life as a potato farmer.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Jack woke up the morning of October 2 with an aortic aneurism.&nbsp; The Alliance Police Department was quick to respond along with the Ambulance Services.&nbsp; The Emergency Department at Box Butte General was ready, efficient, and compassionate.&nbsp; Barbara can never say enough good things about the courtesy and concern of all who helped her.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Jack is leaving behind his wife, Barbara; his three daughters, Chris Collins (Michael Collins) of Alliance, Nebraska, Beth Cuevas of Frisco, Texas, and Sara Glinatsis of Monument, Colorado; his seven grandchildren, Cameron and Jack Collins, Avery, Brooks, and Victor Cuevas, and George and Marcus Glinatsis.&nbsp; His son-in-law Michael Collins, along with Michael’s loving family have been an essential element of Alliance strength. Barbara and Jack would have been married 58 years this November 18, 2025.&nbsp; Jack will miss attending the wedding of his first grandson Cameron to Rachael Krinke this December.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Leo John Kriz Jr. John, 63, passed from this life on September 24th, 2025.

John was born March 25, 1962, in Alliance Nebraska, to Leo and Barbara (Thornton) Kriz. John spent his early years on the family farm.

John a lifelong resident of Hemingford, Nebraska was known for his hard-working spirit and strong work ethic. Having held various positions, including roles in the Village of Hemingford, and Union Pacific Railroad where he recently served as a freight conductor.

John's community remembers him as a good friend, known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and gentle kind nature. John's time on earth is most significantly defined by his love of family, with his children representing his greatest accomplishments. And they remember his sincere heart, love and unwavering commitment. Margaret, John's wife, finds solace in their beautiful friendship, which blossomed into a love meant to last forever. She will cherish the dreams and memories and believes they will meet again.

John is preceded in death by parents Leo and Barbara Kriz and granddaughter, Maddie Dee Nunez.&nbsp; John is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters, Kayla Marie Behm and husband Mark of Lincoln Nebraska, Emily Jensen and husband Michael of Council Bluffs, Iowa and son, Daniel Kriz of Omaha, Nebraska. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Danielle McClure and husband Steven Zaremba of Oak Harbor, Washington, grandsons, Gary and Logan of Oak Harbor Washington, his sisters, Cindy Davies of Hemingford, Nebraska and Kathy McGowan and husband Jeff of Hot Springs, South Dakota, his brother Timothy Kriz and wife Laurel of Hemingford Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.

A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion in Hemingford Nebraska on Saturday, October 11th at 1:00pm. It was well-known by all who knew John how much he loved and was devoted to his favorite sports team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, so let's honor John and dress appropriately.

Daniel T. Thompson, age 75 of Alliance, NE passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Unity Medical Center of Grafton, ND.

Daniel Thomas Thompson was born December 12, 1949 to the late Thomas and Junice (Holt) Thompson in Grafton, ND.&nbsp; He was raised on the family farm with his five brothers.&nbsp; He attended Park River Schools and graduated from the Walsh County Ag School.&nbsp; After graduation, he began farming with his father and brother Doug.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Barbara Lee on December 16, 1967 at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Hoople.&nbsp; They made their home in rural Grafton, where they continued to farm and raise their children.&nbsp; In 1985, Daniel and his brothers began farming together as the TF Thompson &amp; Sons, Inc.&nbsp; Daniel loved his family and farming.&nbsp; In 1995, he and Barbara moved to Alliance, NE where he began farming with his son Joe.&nbsp; He was a part of daily operations on the farm until recently when medical issues required him to take a step back.&nbsp;&nbsp; His perseverance and work ethic made him the incredible brother, father, grandfather, and friend that he will be remembered as.&nbsp;

Daniel loved a teaching moment, whether about farming or life.&nbsp; He coached Grafton youth hockey and trapshooting at the Walsh County Gun Club.&nbsp; He enjoyed refereeing hockey, playing in the “Old Timers” hockey league, fishing, and hunting.&nbsp; He cherished his time with his brothers, his children, and especially his grandchildren.&nbsp; He was a lifelong member of the Walsh County Gun Club.&nbsp; He served on several boards through his years of farming, such as the Nash Grain Board and the NE Potato Certification Board.&nbsp; He was the National Seed Grower of the Year in 2007.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Daniel is survived by his children: Patricia Thompson, Osceola, WI, Brenda (Alan) Bergum, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Joseph (Rebecca) Thompson, Alliance, NE; grandchildren: Danielle and Nicole Annunziata; Jessica, John, and Ryan Bergum; and Ian, Logan, and Tate Thompson; brothers: Doug (Kay), Jim (Alyce), Rick (Pam), Ron (Jennifer), and Tom (Angela); his “best pal” Gracie; and special friend Eileen Codina.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Barbara.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Alliance, NE with Pastor Megan Morrow officiating. Interment will be at Hemingford Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation with the family present will be Friday, October 3 from 5-7 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Dementia Society of America or the Alliance NE FFA Chapter.

Daniel T. Thompson (1949 - 2025)

Deborah Elaine (Wyland) Mundt, 72, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.&nbsp;

She was born December 12, 1952 in Alliance, Nebraska to Alfred &amp; Bertha (Hiner) Wyland.

Deborah was the youngest of 10 children and grew up “roaming the streets of Hemingford”, as she would say.

She attended Hemingford High School, where she graduated in 1971. After graduating she worked as a teller at the Abbott Bank in Hemingford. She had a career change shortly after marrying the great love of her life, Jerry Mundt, on May 20, 1976. On this day she was introduced into the life of farming when Jerry informed her they could run up to Hot Springs, South Dakota to be married “real quick” because it had rained that day, otherwise she would have to “wait until after harvest”.&nbsp;

She took him up on his offer that day and afterwards went to live, work and raise their family on their farm at Berea, Nebraska. A farm that would thereafter be filled with love, laughter, good food and never see a Christmas that wasn’t stacked high with presents.&nbsp;

Deb fully embraced the life of farming, raising all 4 of her children as she worked. Many days were spent singing ‘This Old Man Came Rolling Home’ and ‘Found a Peanut’ on repeat as she worked summer fallow with Christopher, Heather &amp; Jeremiah sitting in each corner of her tractor.

Before a time of car seat carriers, Deb devised a way to cart around an infant Katrina, using a laundry basket and a chunk of foam when she was busy in the field hopping from wheat truck to wheat truck. Deb often bragged that she worked “just as hard as any man”, and she truly did and then some.

Deb’s greatest pride was her children and 14 grandchildren. You could say she never missed an activity or sporting event they were involved in and it would not be far from the truth. She even dubbed the south-west corner of the Hemingford gym as “Her &amp; Jerry’s Corner". Most of the community was in agreement as that space was always left open for them. Even though Christopher’s children lived too far for her to attend their events, she was no less proud of them and all their achievements and would not hesitate to brag on them at every opportunity.

Deb's other source of pride was the new addition her and Jerry added to their home. Anyone who stopped to visit, undoubtedly received a tour and would have never seen her wood floors unpolished. Deb enjoyed genealogy, being a member of the local chapter of the P.E.O. and taking care of her loved ones. There were 2 things that were never far from her, the first being a child or grandchild, the second being a bottle of Diet Pepsi. (She claimed the latter helped her deal with the former).

Because of Deb’s fierce love for her family and endearing stubbornness, she truly was a matriarch. Her unfaltering support and guiding wisdom will be a loss felt by all her loved ones. However, there is no doubt that she will continue to watch over and guide them still, and if there is Diet Pepsi in heaven, she is surely stocking up.

Deb was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred &amp; Bertha (Hiner) Wyland; Her siblings and their spouses: Alfred Leroy (Candy) Wyland, John (Judy) Wyland, Carol (George) Wickham, Kenneth (Colleen) Wyland, Donna (Bill) Meng, brother-in-law Jerome Kosmicki and infant brothers Donald, Robert &amp; Thomas.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Mundt of Berea, Ne; her sister Norma Kosmicki of Grand Island, Ne, as well as her children and grandchildren: Christopher (Stephanie) Mundt, Nathan (Lorelai), Christian, Joshua, &amp; Tabetha of Omaha, Ne; Heather (Craig) Kumpf, Mikayla, Kylie, &amp; Kennedy of Hemingford, Ne;&nbsp; Jeremiah (Janie) Mundt, Jacob, Jazlyn, Devin &amp; Alexander of Berea, Ne; Katrina (Josh) Ritchie, Franklin, Ezekiel, &amp; CharLee of Alliance, Ne; as well as many beloved nieces &amp; nephews.

Deb would have greatly appreciated donations made in her honor to be given to the Hemingford United Methodist Church, or to any organization of the giver’s choice.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hemingford United Methodist Church, 619 Custer Street, Hemingford, Nebraska.&nbsp; Guests are welcome to attend lunch at the church following the graveside service. There will be a visitation from 1-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, at the Bates - Gould Funeral Home in Hemingford, 523 Shoshone, Ave.

 </figure>Deborah Elaine (Wyland) Mundt, 72, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.&nbsp;She was born December 12, 1952 in Alliance, Nebraska to Alfred &amp; Bertha (Hiner) Wyland.Deborah was the youngest of 10 children and grew up “roaming the streets of Hemingford”, as she would say.She attended Hemingford High School, where she graduated in 1971. After graduating she worked as a teller at the Abbott Bank in Hemingford. She had a career change shortly after marrying the great love of her life, Jerry Mundt, on May 20, 1976. On this day she was introduced into the life of farming when Jerry informed her they could run up to Hot Springs, South Dakota to be married “real quick” because it had rained that day, otherwise she would have to “wait until after harvest”.&nbsp;She took him up on his offer that day and afterwards went to live, work and raise their family on their farm at Berea, Nebraska. A farm that would thereafter be filled with love, laughter, good food and never see a Christmas that wasn’t stacked high with presents.&nbsp;Deb fully embraced the life of farming, raising all 4 of her children as she worked. Many days were spent singing ‘This Old Man Came Rolling Home’ and ‘Found a Peanut’ on repeat as she worked summer fallow with Christopher, Heather &amp; Jeremiah sitting in each corner of her tractor.Before a time of car seat carriers, Deb devised a way to cart around an infant Katrina, using a laundry basket and a chunk of foam when she was busy in the field hopping from wheat truck to wheat truck. Deb often bragged that she worked “just as hard as any man”, and she truly did and then some.Deb’s greatest pride was her children and 14 grandchildren. You could say she never missed an activity or sporting event they were involved in and it would not be far from the truth. She even dubbed the south-west corner of the Hemingford gym as “Her &amp; Jerry’s Corner". Most of the community was in agreement as that space was always left open for them. Even though Christopher’s children lived too far for her to attend their events, she was no less proud of them and all their achievements and would not hesitate to brag on them at every opportunity.Deb's other source of pride was the new addition her and Jerry added to their home. Anyone who stopped to visit, undoubtedly received a tour and would have never seen her wood floors unpolished. Deb enjoyed genealogy, being a member of the local chapter of the P.E.O. and taking care of her loved ones. There were 2 things that were never far from her, the first being a child or grandchild, the second being a bottle of Diet Pepsi. (She claimed the latter helped her deal with the former).Because of Deb’s fierce love for her family and endearing stubbornness, she truly was a matriarch. Her unfaltering support and guiding wisdom will be a loss felt by all her loved ones. Jimmy Dean Snyder, 58 of rural Hay Springs passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood, CO.&nbsp;

He was born on February 25, 1967 to Paul A. and Geraldine “Jeri” (Taylor) Snyder.&nbsp; He grew up in Alliance with his younger sister, Paula.

Jimmy attended and graduated from Alliance Public Schools.&nbsp; He was a self-employed trucker and custom hay hauler.&nbsp; He also previously had worked for BNSF, Nebraska Department of Roads and in farming.&nbsp;

Jimmy loved to race his stock-car, visit with family and friends whether in person or on the phone. He never knew a stranger.&nbsp;&nbsp; He loved his dogs and raising cattle and pigs.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his dad, Paul, his brother, Troy, grandparents, Carl and Elizabeth Snyder and Harold and Eva Taylor along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jimmy is survived by his mother, Jeri Snyder, his sister, Paula (Pete) Mapes of Hay Springs, his nephew, Anthony Snyder his great-nephew, Draco Woolson, his aunt, Barbara Snyder and numerous cousins.&nbsp; He is also survived by his special friend, Eldon Kramer and best friends, Todd Snyder and Jim Fuller and his second mother, Sherri Cavender.&nbsp;

Jimmy Dean Snyder (1967 - 2025)

James “Jim” Bernard Mashek, 71, passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on February 1, 1954, in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Leonard and Margaret (Hoffman) Mashek. He grew up in Kimball, South Dakota, and later met his high school sweetheart, Rena Newby, in Chamberlain, SD. The two were married on November 24, 1973, and shared 52 wonderful years together.

In 1973, Jim proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving until 1976. He received an honorable discharge and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, as well as commendations as an Expert Grenade thrower and Sharpshooter with the M16 rifle. Much of his service was spent in Germany.

In 1978, Jim began his career with the BNSF Railroad, where he worked as a track foreman and later as a roadmaster. In 1980, Jim and Rena made Alliance, Nebraska, their home. Jim dedicated 36 years of loyal service to BNSF Railroad before retiring in 2014. He was known as a hardworking man whose coworkers respected and enjoyed working alongside him.

When he retired, Jim enjoyed spending time outdoors tinkering in the yard and garage, but most of all he treasured time with his grandchildren—taking them places and making memories that meant the world to him. His retirement was sadly cut short in November 2019 due to illness, leading to six years of pain and being homebound, during which he continued to show strength and courage.

Jim was an avid athlete and especially loved playing softball. He excelled at shortstop, where his strong arm and quick reflexes stood out. Known for his abundance of home runs, Jim was often recognized as MVP on his teams, which earned him the nickname “Smashek.” The friendships and memories he made on the field remained some of his proudest and happiest times.

Above all, Jim cherished time with his family. He loved his children deeply and found his greatest joy in being a grandfather. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with Nick, Avery, Zekyel, and Neva.

Jim is survived by his wife, Rena; and their three children, Angela (Ted) of Gordon, NE, Erik of Alliance, NE, and Summer of Alliance, NE. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Nick, Avery, Zekyel, and Neva.

He is further survived by his sisters, Trudie (Jerry) Boedeker and Debbie (Bill) Ernest; and his brothers, Rick (Tammy) Mashek, Joe (Denise) Mashek, and Chris (Debbie) Mashek.

Jim is also survived by his in-laws: Diane (Ron) Furr, Ronnie Newby, Kenny (Ruth) Newby, Dick Thomas, and George Martin.

Special great-nephews Victor and Nick Gallegos, Bobbie Arraj, and great-niece Valesha Gallegos also survive him, along with many other beloved nephews and nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and great-great-nephews and nieces. He is also survived by ex-daughter-in-law Heather Warren and ex-son-in-law Michael Swanson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Margaret; his brothers, Patrick, Mike, and Jack; his sisters, Vickie and Holly; his parents-in-law, Avery and Dorothy Newby; his sisters-in-law, Delanie Mordhorst, Donna Newby, and Esther Newby; his brother-in-law, Rick Newby; and his nephew, Eugene Newby.

Jim’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.

Kenton L. Dietrich, 77, Alliance, NE, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Skyview of Bridgeport, NE.

He was born on September 11, 1947 to Alex and Shirley Dietrich Jr. in Alliance, NE. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1966 in Alliance, NE, attended Chadron State College, was a Certified Nursing&nbsp;Assistant, served in the U.S.  Navy, and worked for BNSF as well as Alliance Vision Source, PC. In addition, he was a Quilt of Valor recipient as well as a classic/muscle car enthusiast. 

He was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Alliance, NE, serving as an usher and on the Columbarium Committee, and greatly enjoyed studying the Bible, Biblical commentaries, and, above all, confessed/embraced Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, who promised: "I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die". (John 11:25-26).

He is survived by his brother, R. Craig Dietrich of Alliance. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 11:00 am. at Immanuel &nbsp;Evangelical&nbsp; Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Mueller officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.

Phyllis Y. Briggs entered into eternal rest on August 19, 2025.&nbsp; Born to Pauline (Lembrich) and Enoch “Sam” Ginn on May 31, 1939.&nbsp; She was the middle child of their 3 children.&nbsp; She graduated from Alliance High School in 1957.&nbsp; She attended Chadron State College and earned her 2-year teaching certificate.&nbsp; She married David W. Briggs in Trinidad CO on May 29, 1959.&nbsp; To this union 3 children were born, Bart, Jon, &amp; Kim.&nbsp; They settled and raised their family on the Briggs Family ranch North of Antioch.&nbsp; She briefly taught art at Central and Grandview elementary schools in Alliance.&nbsp; In 1970 joined Gene’s pharmacy where she remained until the pharmacy was closed.&nbsp; Afterwards she worked at the Pamida pharmacy until her retirement.

She was active in the Cowbelles with her mother-in-law, Vera Briggs. Phyllis prided herself on remembering people and their names.&nbsp;

She was a beloved daughter, sister, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandma.

She is survived by her son Barrett (Deb) Briggs of Monroe, WI, son Jon Briggs (fiancé Carrie) of Cheyenne WY, and daughter Kim Briggs (Paul) of Bellevue, NE.&nbsp; She is also survived by her sister-in-law Pam Briggs of Harrisonburg VA, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, her daughter in law Bernadine (Boness) Briggs and her great-grandson, Ethan.

Douglas Glenn Stinnette was born on July 4th, 1952 to Cecil and Alyce Stinnette.&nbsp; He died August 21, 2025.

He was born in Alliance but resided in Bingham until he was&nbsp; 6 years old.&nbsp; His family then moved to Alliance where he lived the remainder of his life.&nbsp; He graduated from Alliance High School in 1970. During his school years and after, Doug was quite the artist and also played the harmonica with which he enjoyed entertaining his family and friends.&nbsp; Doug was a very hard worker.&nbsp; He did mostly concrete construction until he was not able to do it anymore.&nbsp; He then worked at Electric Hose shere he made hoses for everything and where he also lost his left index finger in an accident.&nbsp; Doug was also a very good cook and enjoyed sharing his bounties.&nbsp; He would help anyone that needed help and also cared for his mom and dad.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Stinnette, Alyce Maxcine Stinnette, his sisters, Janice Huddle and Linda Shimp and his brother, Dick Stinnette.

He is survived by his brother, Larry Stinnette, sister-in-law, Beverly Stinnette and brother-in-law, Floyd Huddle and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, September 3 at 12:30 p.m. at the Bingham Cemetery.

Douglas Glenn Stinnette (1952 - 2025)

Mark Anthony Sherlock, 63, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August&nbsp;28, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mark was born on August 23, 1962 to Michael and Vera Sherlock. Mark grew up in Alliance, Nebraska&nbsp;and graduated from Alliance High School in 1980. Mark’s favorite hobbies were any type of racing from&nbsp;two wheels to four. 

In 1983, he married the love of his life, Joyce Townsend, and together they raised two children, Charles&nbsp;and Jessica. Mark took great pride in being a dedicated provider for his family, something he valued&nbsp;above all else. Mark was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother whose quiet strength and&nbsp;hard-working spirit defined his life.

Mark began his lifelong career in newspaper printing as a high school student, working after school at the&nbsp;Times Herald. He was later hired full time to run the printing press, a role he took on with unwavering&nbsp;commitment. Over the next 36 years, Mark rarely took a day off, ensuring the presses ran smoothly and&nbsp;the work got done. After his tenure at the Times Herald, Mark went on to work at Parker, where he&nbsp;enjoyed working alongside his brother and nephews. When he wasn’t working, he spent many hours at&nbsp;the local motocross track with his son and traveling to motocross races. 

Though a private man, Mark’s dry wit and signature eye roll were well-known and well-loved by those&nbsp;close to him. He had a quiet humor, a steady presence, and a deep love for his family. To know Mark was&nbsp;to know loyalty and reliability. 

Mark is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Joyce Sherlock; his children, Charles Sherlock and&nbsp;Jessica (Brett) Iske; and his granddaughter, Evelyn Iske. He also leaves behind his mother, Vera&nbsp;Sherlock; sisters Linda (Gill) Davis and Kate (Rich Hunter) Sherlock; and brothers Michael (Mary)&nbsp;Sherlock, Tom Sherlock, Pat (Tammy) Sherlock, and Dale (Coleen Turman) Sherlock. He will be&nbsp;remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Michael Sherlock; his brother and sister-in-law, Malvin and&nbsp;Susan Sherlock; his nephew, Corey Leisy; his mother-in-law, Delma Townsend; his brother-in-law, Roger Townsend; and a special aunt, Audrey Munger.  Mark will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mark’s memory to the local Alliance Motocross Association (AMXA) in care of Nathan Payne, 121 Potash Ave. or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.&nbsp;

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd at the Hemingford Cemetery at&nbsp;11:00 am. A luncheon will follow at the Eagles in Alliance, Nebraska at noon. In keeping with Mark’s&nbsp;wishes, guests are invited to dress in casual attire.

Mark Anthony Sherlock (1962 - 2025)

Dixie Lee Simpson entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 24, at the Hemingford Care Center.

She was born January 3, 1938, at the Chadron, Nebraska, Hospital to Elizabeth (Bette) Miller-Mackey and Fred Mackey. She proudly announced to everyone she met that she was the first baby born in the new year! She attended Alliance High School through her junior year, where she enjoyed being a marching band drum majorette. Due to a family relocation, she completed her senior year of high school in&nbsp;Jackson, Minnesota, graduating with honors in May 1956.

On July 8, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Wayne A. Simpson, at the United Methodist Church in Alliance. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2025. Dixie loved being a wife, mother and homemaker — she was a wonderful cook and loved preparing large holiday meals and hosting her family. She spent hours decorating her kitchen window throughout the year for every holiday, with extra attention given to her favorite holiday, Christmas. She worked several part-time jobs while her&nbsp;children were small so she could be present for their school activities. In the early 1970s, she served as the head cook at Alliance High School, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. In 1981, fulfilling a lifelong dream, she enrolled in the WNCC College of Nursing and became a licensed practical nurse. After graduation, she worked for the Highland Park Care Center until her retirement.

In retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, and camping and boating with her family. She was an accomplished gardener and loved spending time outdoors in her spacious yard, relaxing on her patio, and feeding the birds and squirrels. While she grew a variety of plants and flowers, her roses were among her favorites. For years, she proudly displayed the American flag in her front yard, and she kept a Herbie Husker in her window — standing upright to celebrate a win and humorously upside down after a

loss. She was especially fond of cats and, through the years, rescued and adopted several strays. She was a dedicated member of her church, helping with rummage sales and many church dinners throughout her life. She was a member of the Aloyah Chapter #185, Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron twice, as well as the Eagles Auxiliary and the Nebraska Association of Nurses.

She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Wayne; her children, Tacy (Ron) Liptack of Alliance, NE; Dirk (Cathy) Simpson of Paonia, CO; and Voni Anderson of Rapid City, SD. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kellen McGinnis of Breckenridge, CO; Patrick (Brittany) Simpson of Littleton, CO, and great-granddaughters Sloan and Sawyer Simpson; Michael Simpson and Matthew Simpson of Paonia, CO; Saige Anderson of Rapid City, SD; Taylor (Billy) Rempelos of Colorado Springs, CO; and Colby Simpson of Denver, CO; her brother, Fred Mackey Jr. of McCook Nebraska; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband’s parents, Charles (Pat) and Violet (Fern) Simpson; and a grandson, Seth Nunn.

Donations in her memory may be made to the United Methodist Church or Alley Cat&nbsp;Campus. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Richard "Dick" Fritzler, age 76, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He was born on July 3, 1949 in Alliance, Nebraska to Alex and Dorothy L. Dick Fritzler  (1949-2025)

Melody Ann Beye was born April 9th, 1960 in Herrington, KS and was one of seven children to Elsie and Walter Beye.&nbsp; Melody made her journey home on August 21, 2025. Melody spent her childhood in Herrington, graduating from high school in 1978.&nbsp; Following her graduation, she arrived in the panhandle of Nebraska at Chadron where she worked as a lumber jack.&nbsp; Later, in 1979 she hired on to Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, where she was employed as a laborer, then as Chief Engineer for the Maintenance department.&nbsp; She held her position at BNSF over 4 decades until her retirement in April, 2020.

In 1981, Melody met Jerry McCracken and the two were wed January 13, 1982 in Hemingford, NE.&nbsp; Later that year, their first daughter, Robyn Ann was born.&nbsp; The family welcomed their second child, Amy Elaine, in 1984.

Melody was always one to pitch in and roll up her sleeves, lending her help however she could.&nbsp; She was involved in community projects like the Helpers Express and active in the BNSF’s Black Diamond Rails Club.&nbsp; She was thrilled with the time served as a mentor to children at the Alliance Middle School.&nbsp; Melody was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Melody was well known for her green thumb.&nbsp; She carried an immense joy and passion for growing the most astounding plants and flowers.&nbsp; Her vegetable gardens were to be envied and yielded the best salsa and canning parties.&nbsp; She generously shared her bountiful harvests with friends and neighbors.&nbsp; In any fair weather, Melody could be found enjoying the fruits of her labor on her patio, her favorite room of the house.&nbsp; She was often busy spending her spare hours in retirement toiling away in her arts and crafts room, relishing in her creative endeavors, and traveling around visiting her daughters and grandchildren. Melody rarely knew a stranger, was known to have a great sense of humor, garnished with a back to the last molar smile and the most contagious laugh. Melody was an undeniably supportive, loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and mentor.&nbsp; To know Melody was to love her.&nbsp; She will be forever missed by all she touched and her absence leaves a faintness in our hearts where she was a bright, shiny light.

Melody is survived by her daughters, Robyn (Santiago) Rodriguez, Amy Dobrinski; grandchildren Acacia McCracken, Miguela Bello, Diego Rodriguez, Araceli (Osiel) Rodriguez, Jazzlyn and Blake Dobrinski; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Milize, Alexander, Ayliani, Camilla, Anthony plus another little one on the way.&nbsp; She also leaves behind her siblings Sherri Murray, Bruce Beye, Cindy Gabe, Bret Beye, Darlene Stillwagon and Walter Beye plus numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Melody was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life honoring Melody will be held Friday, August 29th, 2025 from 3-6pm at the Alliance Eagles Club.&nbsp; Memorial accounts have been established in Melody’s name online through Go Fund Me and at Consumers Cooperative Credit Union in Alliance, NE.

Melody Ann Beye (1960 - 2025)

Celia Sandoz Ostrander Barth, a well known sandhills ranch woman passed away August 22, 2025 at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs, NE. Celia was born August 30, 1925 in the maternity home in Rushville, NE. 

Because of no telephone in the Sand Hills, A.R. Modisett carried the message of her birth to her father by horseback to their home. She was the oldest child of Jules Alexander Sandoz and Mary Matilda “Kicken” Sandoz; and the grand daughter of Jules Ami Sandoz “Old Jules” and Mary “Fehr” Sandoz. Celia, her brother Earnest, sister Marguerite, and her parents lived on a ranch in Sheridan County until 1938.

 During the depression she and her brother, Zella Mae Dykes, and Sophia Sears attended rural school near their home in a school district founded by Roy Dykes and her father. Her maternal grandparents lived with them. They burned cow chips for heat, raised a garden, milked, had cows &amp; pigs. They bought groceries &amp; supplies at the Old Jules Store. When she was in the 7th grade the family then moved to the William Margrave ranch a few miles east now known as the Willow Creek Ranch. Here Celia and her siblings went to the Spring Lake School northwest of their new home. 

Her parents ran a successful cow/calf ranching operation as they had at their first home. Celia graduated with Normal Training from Gordon High School(boarding in homes in Gordon) in May of 1946. She went on to Chadron State College where she received her teaching certificate; and taught in rural schools(Berndt, Eckerle, Orr, Forney, Skanadore, Nielson, Westover) for 6 years in the sandhills. On May 19, 1951 Celia married Orville Lester Ostrander in Scottsbluff, NE at the Presbyterian Church with Della Reese and Jack Dubbs as attendants of the couple. After a honeymoon to the West coast in Orvilles’ new red Ford convertible. They visited Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Yellowstone National Park, his sister Myrtle Thompson of Richland, WA, and sister Ethel Trucks of Riverside, CA. 

The couple made their home the first summer at a camp on the Minor-Hull cattle ranch where Orville was hay contractor. They then moved to White Valley south of Gordon and ran cattle on shares for Celia’s father for 8 years. 

Four children were born to Orville and Celia while they lived there: Jules Edward in 1952, Mary Celia in 1953, Cash Orville in 1955, and Myrtle Emmaline in 1956. On May 1, 1959 the family moved to the Pine Creek Ranch 18 miles south of Rushville which Celia’s father had purchased from Claude Wuthier. Two years later in 1961 Orville and Celia welcomed their fifth and final child, Marlene Flora to their family. They ran a successful cow/calf ranching operation there for the next 38 years. Orville died of complications from emphysema at the ranch on October 14, 1997. 

Celia married Lyle Lawrence Barth on September 14, 2001 at Pleasant Point Church in rural Sheridan County. They also made their home on the Pine Creek Ranch. The couple went on several trips and enjoyed many dances together with their friends. Lyle died on November 28, 2016 due to complications of diabetes. 

Celia was a faithful wife and mother. She showed her love for the outdoors and growing things by the pride she took in her yard and garden. Her hobbies and skills included extensive photography, genealogy research, piano, accordion, harmonica, making and displaying quilts,fancy work, rural news reporter, member of Cowbells, member of Nebraska Cattlewomen, Smith Lake Hobby Club, and dancing. She also served as leader of the Smith Lake 4-H club for ten years.

The funeral is 8/26/2025 at Pleasant Point Church South of Gordon at 10AM. Interment follows at the Fairview Cemetery near Rushville, NE.

Celia Sandoz Ostrander Barth (1925 - 2025)

Charlain (Chuck) White, age 81, of Ashby, Nebraska, passed away on August 22, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Chuck was born on September 23, 1943, in Alliance, Nebraska, to Clifford and Jewell ‘Beem’ Ferguson. She spent her childhood on the family ranch north of Ashby, where she developed the strong values and work ethic that shaped her life. Chuck attended grade school in Ashby and went on to graduate from Hyannis High School in 1961. During her school years, she made Girls State and was a member of the state volleyball team.

In 1962, she married Butch White at the United Church of Christ. They made their home in Whitman, Nebraska, where they worked for Jack Lowe. From 1962 to 1964, Chuck played volleyball and softball for the Hyannis town team.

In 1968, Butch and Chuck moved to the Shadbolt Ranch north of Ashby. Chuck cooked for the ranch, hay crew and sometimes for the road crew. No matter where they lived, she always took pride in caring for her yard as well.

In 1995, they leased a ranch near Antioch, Nebraska, where they stayed until 2006. That same year, they moved to the Black Ranches. Chuck cooked for the ranch crews and at the Black Ranches Bull Sale, where her homemade meals became well known and appreciated.

In 2013, Butch and Chuck retired in Ashby. From 2022 through 2024, Chuck worked part-time cooking for Hyannis Area Schools. She enjoyed helping in the kitchen and being around the students.

Family was the center of Chuck’s life. She loved hosting meals, bringing everyone together, and spending time with her siblings, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She rarely missed a school activity, ball game, recital, or rodeo her family were a part of. Chuck was and always will be a beloved part of the family.

Chuck is survived by her husband of 63 years, Butch; daughters, Ronda White of Hyannis and K.C. (Chad) Schaack of Hyannis; granddaughters, Courtney (Wayne Sweet) Sheets, Bailey (Jessie) Hefner of Hyannis, and Brandy (Lane) Day of Chadron; great-granddaughters, Scarlett and Clarissa Sweet, and Bexley and Brinley Hefner; and great-grandson, Luke Day. She is also survived by sisters, Melly (Dave) Sexson of Gordon, Lola (Scott) Webster of Manitoba, Canada, Lora (George) Jenkins of Mullen, and Jan Burges of Ashby; brothers, Joe Ferguson of Scottsbluff, Ted (Tricia) Ferguson of Ashby, and Lee Ferguson of Hyannis; brothers-in-law, Fred Michael and Glen Kerrigan; brother-in-law, Tom (Ellen) White of Ogallala; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mabel Michael, Judy Burton, and Carol Kerrigan; sister-in-law Barb Ferguson; and brother-in-law Lyle Burton.

A dinner in honor of Chuck’s memory, which she thoughtfully planned herself, will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Hyannis Winters Building. Planning this final meal reflected her love of bringing people together around food, something she did throughout her life. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the UCC Church with Kevin Burton of Scottsbluff officiating. Following the service, cookies will be served at the Winters Building. Inurnment will take place at the Hyannis Cemetery.

Honoring Chuck’s wishes, a memorial fund has been created in her name. Rather than flowers, she hoped that any gifts would be given to the ‘Chuck White Memorial Fund,’ which she thoughtfully planned to support others facing cancer.

Planning this final meal reflected her love of bringing people together around food, something she did throughout her life. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the UCC Church with Kevin Burton of Scottsbluff officiating. Following the service, cookies will be served at the Winters Building. Catherine Lynn (Paulsen) Daugherty, 69, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family.

Born in Holdrege, Nebraska, Catherine was the daughter of Alice and the late Dale Paulsen. From a young age, she embodied compassion, resilience, and a quiet strength that would come to define her life. She began her career in healthcare as a Licensed Practical Nurse, where her gentle touch and genuine care brought comfort to countless patients over the years. In retirement, Catherine embraced a new calling as a women’s ministry leader in her church,&nbsp;offering guidance, encouragement, and faith-filled friendship to many.

Catherine leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love and devotion to her family. She is survived by her husband, Lee Daugherty, her devoted partner of 34 years. She was a loving mother to Cory Anderson and his wife Ann of Colorado, Chris Anderson and his wife Joddie of Oregon. She was also a proud and caring stepmother to Bryan Daugherty of California, Jill Daugherty of Colorado, Robert Daugherty of Texas, and Michael Daugherty and his wife Melissa of Alabama.

Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them: Miles Anderson and Cole Anderson of Colorado; Snowy Winters of Florida; Chris Daugherty and Rachel Daugherty of California; Abbey Marshall and her husband Hugh of Nevada; and Tayler Taylor and her husband Clay of North Carolina. Her love and guidance will continue to live on through her five great-grandchildren: Eli Daugherty and Savannah and Adam Daugherty of California, and Mia Marshall and Zoë Marshall of Nevada.

Catherine is also survived by her mother, Alice Armstrong, and her brothers Mike Paulsen and his wife Kay of Missouri, and John Paulsen and his wife Jeanne of Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her father, Dale Paulsen, and her brother, Steve Paulsen.

To know Catherine was to witness a life lived with grace, faith, and boundless love. She carried others through life’s hardest moments with a quiet strength and a heart full of kindness. Her memory will continue to be a guiding light to those who knew and loved her.

Catherine Lynn (Paulsen) Daugherty, 69

Teresa Ellen Butcher, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away August 13th 2025 at the age of 88, surrounded by family and love.

Born November 30, 1936, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska, to Mary and Edward Cody, she grew up with a passion for learning, music, and dance. She attended St. Agnes Academy, where she was an active student known for her talent as both a beautiful accordion and piano player. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1954, later attending Greeley’s Teachers College and earning her bachelor’s degree from Chadron State College.

Her lifelong love of teaching began in the classroom and extended to her home, where she shared her gift of music through piano lessons. In 1956, she married James Eugene Butcher, and together they raised their family. In 1975, they moved from Alliance to Sterling, Colorado, where she continued to educate and inspire others, teaching GED courses until the age of 75.

Her passions were many—music, her family, and traveling with friends. She was known for her laugh, her love of adventure, and the way she made everyone she met feel valued.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Eugene Butcher; her brother, Punk Cody, and his wife Karen; and her sister-in-law LaVona and husband Shorty Schommer. She is survived by her children: James Butcher and his wife Dawn, and their daughter Chelsea (Jeremy) Kuhn; Rita Arnoldy and her children Sarah (Keith) Wernsman, Justin (Julie) Arnoldy, and Kyle (Jodi) Arnoldy; and Mary Butcher and her children Cionne Butcher and Jacob Breidenbach. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, along with many dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.

Her life was a melody of kindness, dedication, and love—a song that will continue to play in the hearts of all who knew her.

Her life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass on Thursday, August 21, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance, Nebraska. Father Matt Koperski will officiate.&nbsp; Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A wake service will be Wednesday, August 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the church.&nbsp; Visitation on Wednesday will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Randy L. Krebs, 70, passed away, Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at his home surrounded by family and friends.

He was born March 2, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska to Richard J. and Mary E. (Hashman) Krebs, the 3rd&nbsp;of five children.

Following his graduation from Alliance High School, Randy went to work for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.&nbsp; He met a Southern Belle from Texas, and he and Pamela Spencer were married on February 14, 1976 in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; To this union were born 3 children, Joseph, Jeremy and Tina.&nbsp; Just two years after their marriage, with the birth of their second child Jeremy, the Good Lord decided to take him back to Heaven.

Randy’s career on the railroad lasted 40 years and he retired in July of 2015.&nbsp; His greatest gifts in life were his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Pam of 49 years; his son, Joseph (Wendy) Krebs of Alliance; his daughter, Tina Krebs of Alliance; grandchildren, Devin, Brianna, Mileigh and Makenzi; brothers, Richard (Shelly) Krebs of Lanett, AL, and Tim (Betsy) Krebs of Alliance; and brothers and sisters-in-love, Sharon (Ron) Brymer of Hot Springs, AR,&nbsp; and John (Clara) Spencer of Blue Ridge, TX; He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son,his sister, Dixie, brother, Monte, 3 very adored nephews, Eric, Joshua and Jonathan, and good friend Russ Anders.

Memorial services will be held Friday, August 22, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alliance Berean Church.&nbsp; Pastor Glenn Johnson will officiate.

Karen Gail Cody was born on June 29, 1940, in Alliance, Nebraska, to Benjamin and Irene (Kaiser) Colerick. She grew up in Alliance and graduated from Alliance High School in 1958.

In 1961, Karen married Gerald “Punk” Cody, and together they built their life on the ranch. She took great pride in her hard work, her ability to keep things running smoothly, and the home she&nbsp;maintained. She was an excellent seamstress and no one could make a better chocolate cake. She enjoyed poker parties with her lifelong Sandhills friends and spending time with her&nbsp;grandchildren. She was a devoted member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. 

Karen passed away on August 7, 2025, surrounded by her family at Edgewood Memory Care in Columbus, Nebraska.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Michael) Cody Garcia of Columbus, NE; grandchildren Morgan Slusarski and Nathan Slusarski of Lincoln, NE; step-grandchildren Paige Garcia and&nbsp;Parker Garcia of Paton, IA; sister-in-law Teresa Butcher; and nieces and nephews, Steve Colerick, Jeff Colerick, Pat Colerick, Jim Butcher, Rita Arnoldy and Mary Butcher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald “Punk” Cody; parents, Benjamin and Irene Colerick; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald “Jerry” and Louise Colerick; her father and mother-in-law, Ed and Mary Cody and brother-in-law, James Butcher.

A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance, Nebraska. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday,&nbsp;August 14, 2025, at Holy Rosary Church with Father Matt Koperski officiating.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 13 from 10am to 4pm at the funeral home.
