Diana G. Dobry, 78, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Highland Park Care Center.

She was born February 1, 1945 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Diana graduated from Alliance High School in 1963 and went on to attend nursing school before her health forced her withdrawal.&nbsp; She later went on to work for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance.&nbsp; She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church and the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her brother, Bruce (Pat) Dobry of Mitchell; her sisters, Kristina (Larry) Zindel of Moweaqua, Illinois and Marcella (Gary) Kreiling of Minatare; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rose Marie Dobry, her sister Frances Young, and her niece, Nikki Gonzalez.

Graveside services will be held Monday, November 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alliance Cemetery.

Margaret Salisbury passed away November 14, 2023 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, Nebraska.

She was born to Bennett and Frieda (Pfisterer) Robins in Rushville, Nebraska on May 2, 1925. She spent her childhood at the family ranch along with siblings, Hope, Clifford and Leonard.

After graduating from high school she ventured to Denver, Colorado where she worked in a munitions factory until the end of WWIL She married Robert G. Whaley and to this union daughter, Gloria Jean was born. After her divorce she and Gloria returned to the family ranch. She married Stanley D. Hulquist in Alliance, Nebraska and to this union sons Michael D. and Richard L. were born. After her divorce from Stanley she married Dwight Salisbury. They were married 20 years until his death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Hope Tryon, and her brothers, Clifford Robins and Leonard Robins. Margaret enjoyed crafts and knitting gifts for others. She was especially grateful for the care she received from the staff at Highland Park.

Surviving her are children, Gloria Clark (Edward), Michael Hulquist (Joyce) and Richard Hulquist, her grandchildren, Christine, Angela, Brian, Kevin and Seth and her 5 great- grandchildren.

Margaret Salisbury (1925 - 2023)

Dean Edward Bruce, 94, of Gordon, Nebraska went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 10, 2023. Dean was born in Gordon, Nebraska to Art and Ruth Bruce on February 6, 1929. He was one of 6 children, including older siblings Bob and Morey, and younger siblings Betty, Beverly, and Bill.

The family home was several miles northeast of Gordon where he would attend the nearby Mt. Pleasant School in his early school years. When the family later moved to a farm 6 miles east of Gordon, Dean attended East Pride Country School through 8th grade before attending Gordon High School, where he graduated in 1946.

Dean was drafted into the U.S. Army on July 6, 1951 and he went on to serve in Korea as an Operating Room Technician in the 8225th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH). He was discharged on June 11, 1953.

After returning home from the Army, he acquired an Allis Chalmers round baler that he operated for hire, working summers bailing hay for George Shadbolt. He would also work cattle on the Shadbolt Ranch throughout the winter months.

During this time, Dean began courting Neva Suhr, and months later they were married on October 10th, 1954. They would be blessed with 67 years of marriage, along with 4 daughters and 1 son. Dean and Neva were long-time members of Grace Lutheran Church in Gordon, where Dean served in many roles and developed a deep faith that was evident throughout his life.

Shortly after getting married, Dean began farming for Milton Peterson and he and Neva then moved onto the Peterson place. Dean transitioned to being a semi-truck owner/operator for many years, hauling fuel initially for the Coop in Winner, SD and then for Coop Oil in Gordon.&nbsp;Many memories were made with the kids (and sometimes their friends) riding along on the several-hour trip to the refinery. For many years, Dean ran the fertilizer department at the Coop before taking on additional management responsibilities prior to his retirement.

After retirement, Dean kept busy maintaining a meticulous lawn and working in his wood shop. He crafted furniture for the home, rocking horses for grandchildren, and anything else that he would get a request to build. He also made hundreds of smaller items such as crosses and seasonal and Christmas décor.

He was very community focused, always emphasizing the importance of doing business locally. He served his community on the Gordon Public Schools board and on the Sheridan County noxious weed board. He was an active volunteer for the Willow Tree Festival and the Sheridan County Fair &amp; Rodeo, along with having served with the Lions Club.

Dean was known for his hard work, integrity, faith, and humor. He was always in good spirit and he was always quick to make a witty comment or break out in song.

After living a full life in Gordon, Dean and Neva moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 2018 to be cared for in assisted living. Dean’s body will now lie in rest at the Gordon Cemetery, which is a fitting return to the town and to the country that he so loved.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife Neva; his siblings Bob, Morey, Betty, Beverly, and infant brother Arthur, as well as infant granddaughter Wendy Tiensvold. He is survived by children Paula (Randy) Lube, Brenda Potter, Jeanette (Dave) Hasse, Kay (Mark) Kruger, and Steve Bruce; and brother Bill (Anita) Bruce. Dean was blessed with 14 grandchildren (Eva Coppinger, Clay Lube, Tim Tiensvold, Dennis Tiensvold, Grant Potter, Alyssa Delzell, Katelyn Potter, Noah Hasse, Peyton Hasse, Michael Kruger, Erin Sandoz, Paul Kruger, Emma Wolf, and Logan Bruce) as well as 10 great-grandchildren (Neva, Margot, Holden, and Henry Tiensvold; Sophia Delzell; Elsie and Layla Kruger; Hallie and Sawyer Sandoz, and Berkley Wolf), and 1 expected great-grandchild.

Dean Edward Bruce (1929 - 2023)

Dorothy E. Ray, 93, of Hemingford died Friday, November 5, 2023, at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital. She was born February 17, 1930, in Hemingford to Milton (Pete) and Grace (White) Danbom. Dorothy attended school in a one room schoolhouse before attending Alliance High School. She lived with her aunts during the week in Alliance due to the lack of a family car when the family moved to the farm. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1947.

After graduation, Dorothy was employed at the Hemingford Ledger as an ad compositor and makeup artist, as well as operator of the big linotype setting most of the advertising copy, in addition to doing part-time sales work. On April 28, 1953, she was united in marriage to Charles E. Ray at St. Bridget Catholic church in Hemingford. Dorothy was a dedicated lifetime resident of Hemingford. She was the bookkeeper for Silver Line Salvage, a business that she and Charles operated together until it was sold in 2005. Dorothy also proudly owned Treasures and Trash, an antique and collectibles store located on the main street in Hemingford for many years. Dorothy was widely known for her wit and her willingness to volunteer. She taught swimming lessons for many years, despite not knowing

how to swim when she was growing up. Later in life she learned to swim and trained to be a lifeguard so that the new town pool could open when they were short of lifeguards. She served as den mother for Troop 210 Den 4 and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and was active in the altar society. Dorothy was known for being an avid sports fan and she loyally watched and cheered for the Cornhuskers, no matter what their record. She was also a big fan of college softball and women’s professional basketball watching the games on tv and closely following the rankings.

In July 2021 Dorothy suffered a fall at her home in Hemingford, requiring her to move to Good Samaritan St. Martin Village in Rapid City, SD for rehab and eventually to live in assisted living. She received excellent care from the staff at Good Samaritan and loved the interactions she had there with both the staff and the fellow residents. Even though she was living in Rapid City, she never forgot her home of Hemingford. She stayed subscribed to the local newspapers so that she would always know what was happening “back home”. She treasured the visits she received from her Hemingford friends while she was in assisted living.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons Dan (Suzanne) Ray of Rapid City, SD and Jerry (Kimiko) Ray of Los

Angeles, CA, her daughter Jodeen (Steve) Worth of Tahlequah, OK, her brother David (Beverly) Danbom of Kennesaw, GA, and her 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Charles E. Ray, infant daughter Polly Ann, brother Alan Danbom and wife Alice, sister Norma Saling and husband Bill, sister Margaret Donnely and husband Lane, brother Bill Danbom and wife Margy, brother Paul Danbom and wife Barbara, brother-in-law Robert Ray and wife Blanche, sister-in-law Arlene Thompson and husband Leonard.

Deborah “Deb” Dell (Grothen) Wegehoft, a woman whose life was a tapestry of love, intellect, and dedication, passed away at the age of 71 on October 2, 2023. Surrounded by her family, she left this world peacefully at Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, after a prolonged illness.

Born on November 21, 1951, in Burlington, Iowa, to Marion Jane (Anderson) Grothen and Delbert Marvin Grothen, Deb was the nurturing eldest of three siblings. In 1953, the Grothen family moved to Alliance, Nebraska, the backdrop for Deb's formative years and a place that would always hold a special place in her heart.

A perennial student at heart, Deb exhibited academic excellence from an early age. Her love for learning was matched only by her passion for music. A multi-talented musician, she played the piano and viola with grace, and her voice was a harmonious addition to any choir. Notably, she was chosen for the All-State orchestra for four consecutive years and was a vital part of the Panhandle orchestra.

Throughout her life, Deb was a woman of action. Whether it was her involvement in 4-H, Speech and Debate, or her role in dramatic productions, she always gave it her all. Deb was a beacon of light, not just in her family but in the community as well. Her service on the Alliance School Board and her lifetime membership at St. John’s Lutheran Church are testaments to her commitment to bettering the lives of those around her.

While her professional journey spanned from railroads to the realm of education, and later finance, each career move was imbued with her signature dedication. In every role, she left an indelible mark, just as she did on the hearts of those who knew her.

Deb's family was the cornerstone of her life, and her love for pottery was an extension of her nurturing spirit. One of her favorite pottery pieces will serve as her urn, symbolizing her creative soul and eternal presence. Her children, Zachary and Megan, and her grandchildren were the apples of her eye. Her nurturing love and wisdom have been their guiding stars, and her legacy will live on through them.

Deb held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, as well as their children and families. She relished the simple joys of family dinners, engaging conversations, game nights, and birthday celebrations. A constant presence at the kids' activities, Deb took immense pleasure in actively participating in their lives.

In her later years, despite battling various health issues, Deb remained optimistic and engaged in her care. Her resilience and grace during these times were awe-inspiring.

Deb is survived by her children Zachary and Megan, her grandchildren Trinity and Anne, her sister Jane McConkey and brother Bruce Grothen, and many beloved nieces and nephews and their children.

A memorial service to celebrate Deb's extraordinary life will be held on November 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent in the care of Jane McConkey for a cause to be designated later.

James David Wacker, 75, of Hemingford died Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at UC Health Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO.

Jim was born July 18, 1948 in Scottsbluff, NE to Rudy and Elsie (Honstein) Wacker.&nbsp; He graduated from Hemingford High School in 1966.&nbsp; In January of 1967 he enlisted in the U.S.&nbsp; Army and served in Vietnam.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged as a Specialist in December 1968.&nbsp; He then returned home to Alliance where he began his career with Burlington Northern Railroad.&nbsp; He married in 1970 and 2 sons were born to this union.&nbsp; He later married again in 1979 and to this union 4 sons were born.&nbsp; The railroad brought Jim and his family to Hemingford in 1998. Jim retired from BNSF in 2008.&nbsp; He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved playing cards.&nbsp;

He is survived by his children, Andy Wacker of Omaha, Tony (Julie) Wacker of LaVista, NE, David (Hallie) Wacker of Laramie, WY, Sean (Joelle) Wacker of Shelby, NE and Jason Wacker of Pensacola, FL.&nbsp; He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and his sisters, Sherry Craig of Dalton, NE and Pat (Bruce) Dobry of Minatare, NE and his brothers, Richard (Carol) Wacker and Brian (Susan) Wacker of Hemingford along with numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Mike Wacker, his infant sister, Elizabeth Ann Wacker and his son, J.D. Wacker.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance with Reverend Jonathan Seng officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be Monday from 1-6 p.m. at the funeral home in Alliance.

James David Wacker (1948 - 2023)

Henrietta Mae Blue, 97, departed from this life on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Henrietta Mae Blue was born October 7, 1926, in Sutherland, Nebraska, the daughter of Ira and Florence (VanMeter) Huffman.

Henrietta attended rural school District 8 in Arthur County through the eighth grade. She attended Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis for her first two years of high school and then attended North Platte High School, where she graduated in 1944. She was employed with several businesses, including Ely-Hoppe Lumber Co. in North Platte from 1949-1952. In 1952, Henrietta was chosen as Miss Buffalo Bill Rodeo Queen at North Platte.

On October 19, 1952, Henrietta was united in marriage to Roy B. O’Mara. The couple resided on the Spade Ranch near Ellsworth, Nebraska, where they were employed by Lawrence Bixby. In February 1953, they moved to the Swan Lake Ranch in Arthur County. A few months later, they moved to the east part of Swan Lake Ranch and resided on the Parsons, located in McPherson County. They were there until December 1957, when they returned to Swan Lake. Four children were born to Roy and Henrietta: Connie, William, Patrick, and Randy.

After Roy passed away in July of 1978, Henrietta continued to manage the ranch until 1988 when she then moved to Ogallala, Nebraska. After moving away from the ranch life, she was employed as a housekeeper for Lowel “Buck” Barrett and then later on as a cook for Haythorn Land &amp; Cattle Company at Ackley Valley from 1989 to 1991.

On June 6, 1992, Henrietta was united in marriage to Kenneth Blue and was married for 24 years. In January 2017, Henrietta moved to Alliance to be closer to her family. She continued to live by herself in an apartment until July 2023, when she moved to Highland Park Care Center.

Ranch life was Henrietta’s greatest desire, working both in the home and outdoors. She enjoyed cooking as well as all the duties involved with ranch life. She especially loved her milk cows and chickens. Henrietta loved helping and taking care of people.

Henrietta attended the Methodist Church in North Platte, Arthur Baptist Church, Ogallala St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Alliance Methodist Church, and Lakeside Church. Henrietta was a member of the Helping Hand Club and Does Drove #252.

Henrietta loved following her grandchildren, Megan Messersmith and Rory de Ganahl to their school activities and later following her great-grandchildren in their school and 4-H activities.

Preceding her in death were her parents, both husbands, brother Marvin Huffman and wife Loree, sister Emma Melvin and husband DeWayne, son William (Dr. Bill), nephew Wayne Melvin, niece Carol Moran and nephew Jim Huffman.

She is survived by her daughter Connie (Chris) de Ganahl of Lakeside Nebraska, son Pat (Pam) O’Mara of Glendale, Arizona, and son Randy O’Mara of Mitchell, Nebraska. Grandchildren: Megan (Tyler) Messersmith of Hayes Center, Nebraska, and Rory (Kelsey) de Ganahl of Lakeside, Nebraska. Great grandchildren: Ava, June, Paige and Brooke Messersmith, Margot and Roger de Ganahl, and all her special nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 20th, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at The Arthur Baptist Church in Arthur, Nebraska. Pastor Greg Reed of Lakeside Methodist Church of Lakeside, Nebraska, and Rev. Blake Wilkes of Arthur Baptist Church of Arthur, Nebraska will be officiating.

Inurnment will take place on Monday, November 20th, 2023 in the Arthur Cemetery in Arthur, Nebraska.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Connie de Ganahl at 1753 304th Trl, Lakeside, NE 69351 for a cause to be designated later.

Henrietta Mae Blue (1926-2023)

Richard Daniel Baker, age 86, of Martin SD passed away at his home on November 5, 2023.

Richard was born on April 16,1937 to Alex and Marie (Jelly) Baker in Gordon Nebraska. He grew up on the family farm north of Vetal, SD. He attended Pleasant Valley School where his mom Marie was a teacher. He joined the US Army in 1957 and enjoyed serving until 1960.&nbsp; While in the service, he received the Sharpshooter Badge (rifle), the Expert Badge (3.5 rocket launcher) and the Good Conduct Medal.

Richard’s first marriage was to Melva Hoblit in 1965, and they had 2 daughters, Maneen and Tory.&nbsp;&nbsp; He married his lifelong love Cindy Evenson on October 6, 1973, and they had 2 sons, Thad and Falle.

Richard started his career in construction with his friend Leo Lowe. He specialized in dirt preparation and finishing. He was involved in the construction of many schools, buildings and roads across the reservation. He spent the majority of his career employed by R&amp;S Construction, GBA, and Doug O’Bryan Contracting. He made lifelong friends with the people he worked with.

Richard loved hunting and fishing, and often had a house full of friends and family through hunting season. He also loved growing and spending time in his garden and was generous in sharing his produce with people in the community. One of his favorite activities was meeting friends at the H&amp;H to play Cribbage and tell stories.

Philip R. Weisz, age 66, of&nbsp;Batesland, South Dakota, passed away on November 4, 2023, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado, surrounded by his loving family.

Philip, fondly known as&nbsp;Phily, was born to Richard and Mathilda (Kallenberger) Weisz on May 22,&nbsp;1957&nbsp;in Ipswich, South Dakota. He began his education in Hosmer, South Dakota before moving to Eureka, South Dakota where he graduated with the class of 1976. While in high school and following graduation, he custom harvested. He then began working for Greg&nbsp;Grenz, a local farmer&nbsp;in Eureka. In 1986, he and his family moved to Aberdeen/Warner, South Dakota area, and he was employed briefly by a moving company. He&nbsp;then began welding for Specialty Manufacturing in Bath, South Dakota, after&nbsp;obtaining&nbsp;his welding certificate. In 1991, the family moved to&nbsp;Batesland&nbsp;where he began a career in carpentry and eventually owned Philip Weisz Construction. Prior to retirement, he drove a school suburban for Oglala Lakota School District.&nbsp;His time driving the school suburban brought out a love of hip hop music! He learned all the latest hip hop and loved to share with his&nbsp;not so receptive&nbsp;wife. In his retirement, he enjoyed maintaining his beautiful yard and mowing the “south 40”.

Phily’s&nbsp;first and greatest love&nbsp;was his family. &nbsp;He truly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, who lovingly called him Papa. He loved to hear their stories and&nbsp;attend their activities. Other interests were camping, fishing (favorites were trips to Alaska), hosting hunters (many of whom became life-long friends), horses, marathon card-playing sessions, cheering on the Steelers, grilling, smoking, and pickling different foods, and&nbsp;attending&nbsp;family reunions.&nbsp;

Phily&nbsp;is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jodi (Neuharth) Weisz, daughter, Lisa Wilber,&nbsp;her&nbsp;husband Brian, and daughters&nbsp;Madelynne&nbsp;and Makenna&nbsp;of Dell Rapids; son, Carey,&nbsp;his&nbsp;fiancée Trish,&nbsp;and&nbsp;daughters Taylor and Aspen, honorary granddaughter Jessica Watson, and Trish’s sons Cole &amp; Levi&nbsp;of Rapid City. Other survivors include siblings Randy (Sherrie), Lorena (Ronnie)&nbsp;Knoepfle, Adina (Ray) Rohrbach, Alvin (Kathy), and Merle (Linda),&nbsp;and in-laws Randy and Kay Neuharth, Cindy and Rick&nbsp;Hofland, Mike and Sherrie Neuharth, Karla&nbsp;Herdina, and Jeff and Dana Neuharth as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Phily&nbsp;was proceeded in death by his parents, his parent in-laws,&nbsp;Harley&nbsp;and Darlene Neuharth, and one nephew.

Phily’s&nbsp;family&nbsp;will host a celebration of his life on Saturday, November 11, at 1:00&nbsp;pm at the&nbsp;Batesland&nbsp;Elementary Eagle Gym in&nbsp;Batesland, South Dakota. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.

Philip R. Weisz (1957 - 2023)

Claudia Nadene (Parker) Biles Watts, 97, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance.

She was born on June 29, 1926 in Hendley, NE to Claudius M. Parker and Mary Ann “Anna” (Mayo) Parker.&nbsp; She lived as a child in Samford, NE and Santa Paula, CA.&nbsp; She completed her freshman year of high school in Santa Paula then returned to Beaver City, NE until graduation in 1943.

She worked at Camp Funston (Fort Riley) KS while attending Manhattan Bible College.

She married Billy Jesse Biles in Norton KS in 1945.&nbsp; Two daughters were born to this union, Sherilyn in 1947 and Judith in 1950.&nbsp; Billy Biles passed away in Los Angeles CA in 1952.&nbsp;

Claudia moved to Lexington NE and married Victor William Watts in 1953.&nbsp; They lived in Lexington where he was employed as a Nebraska State Brand Inspector for 10 years. They moved to Alliance NE where he was a brand inspector until he retired.&nbsp; Victor passed away January, 2011 in Alliance after 57 years of marriage. Following his death Claudia sold the ranch and moved into Alliance.

Claudia was baptized in Beaver City, NE Christian Church in 1943.&nbsp; She loved her Lord and was faithful member of First Christian Church in Alliance. Claudia was employed at Holsten Drug and Montgomery Ward stores in Alliance.&nbsp; She worked for Dr. B.G Bauman for 10 years and then Dr. William Glassbrenner for 10 years until she retired in 1988.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

She was a member of Eagles Club, Learn and Laugh Extension Club, Wright Precinct Extension Club, Box Butte General Hospital Auxiliary since 1988, Red Hat Club and the Wednesday Lunch Bunch.&nbsp; She volunteered at BBGH, Good Samaritan Village, and the Mission Store.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters Violet White, Fern Poppert, Ann Lee; and by her grandson James W. Covalt.&nbsp;

She is survived by her daughters Sherilyn Covalt and Judith (Brad) Black, her grandchildren, Allison Black (David) Peters, and Meredith Black (Roger) Hutson, her great-grand child, Kady Lynn Covalt and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Parker and Mary Ann “Anna” (Mayo) Parker.&nbsp; She lived as a child in Samford, NE and Santa Paula, CA.&nbsp; She completed her freshman year of high school in Santa Paula then returned to Beaver City, NE until graduation in 1943.She worked at Camp Funston (Fort Riley) KS while attending Manhattan Bible College.She married Billy Jesse Biles in Norton KS in 1945.&nbsp; Two daughters were born to this union, Sherilyn in 1947 and Judith in 1950.&nbsp; Billy Biles passed away in Los Angeles CA in 1952.&nbsp;Claudia moved to Lexington NE and married Victor William Watts in 1953.&nbsp; They lived in Lexington where he was employed as a Nebraska State Brand Inspector for 10 years. They moved to Alliance NE where he was a brand inspector until he retired.&nbsp; Victor passed away January, 2011 in Alliance after 57 years of marriage. Following his death Claudia sold the ranch and moved into Alliance.Claudia was baptized in Beaver City, NE Christian Church in 1943.&nbsp; She loved her Lord and was faithful member of First Christian Church in Alliance. Claudia was employed at Holsten Drug and Montgomery Ward stores in Alliance.&nbsp; She worked for Dr. B.G Bauman for 10 years and then Dr. William Glassbrenner for 10 years until she retired in 1988.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of Eagles Club, Learn and Laugh Extension Club, Wright Precinct Extension Club, Box Butte General Hospital Auxiliary since 1988, Red Hat Club and the Wednesday Lunch Bunch.&nbsp; She volunteered at BBGH, Good Samaritan Village, and the Mission Store.&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters Violet White, Fern Poppert, Ann Lee; and by her grandson James W. Covalt.&nbsp;She is survived by her daughters Sherilyn Covalt and Judith (Brad) Black, her grandchildren, Allison Black (David) Peters, and Meredith Black (Roger) Hutson, her great-grand child, Kady Lynn Covalt and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Evelyn Mae (Schwabauer) Reichert was born September 11, 1932, in Gering, Nebraska (“in the shadow of the Scotts Bluff National Monument”) to Frederick and Amelia Schwabauer. She was the second of three children; joined by her older brother Eugene and younger sister, Mary Ann. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1951 and went on to work for the United Telephone Company for 18 months. Evelyn married Donald D. Reichert on February 8, 1953, and they had three daughters, Jean Ann, Linda, and Mary Jane. They were stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA for two years when Don was in the Army. Evelyn was a busy mom, as she was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls leader, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, Parent Teachers Association (PTA) President, room mother, Cosmospals, etc.

When the girls entered high school, she went to work for her sister in the surgery department of St. Mary’s Hospital in Scottsbluff, eventually transferring to Regional West’s surgery department. She retired in 1997 after 27 years. She then helped Don schedule for their bus company, Good Tyme Charter. 

Evelyn’s hobbies included fishing, camping, bowling, pinochle, angel, and rooster collecting, and she and Don would teach anyone who wanted to learn to water-ski! In retirement, her sister and her leaned on each other to “keep each other out of the nursing home”, as they put it! They traveled, shopped, and Linda joined them for some of their adventures. A recent trip to see grandson Billy Boyer and his family in Minnesota was a highlight. 

In retirement, she enjoyed watching tv, reading, WNCC Volleyball and Basketball games, Husker Volleyball (sitting courtside behind Coach Cook was a highlight), and “watching a good sunset”.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Don in 2015; infant daughter Mary Jane; brother Eugene in 2019; parents in law, Sarah and Dave Reichert, and sister-in-law Judy Krausie. Charles E (Chuck) Arthur finished his earthly life on November 2, 2023. Always a believer in the Catholic church and continuing to miss his ‘daddy,’ he was ready to start his new chapter and reunite with friends and family who preceded him. Chuck was a farm boy at heart, purchasing a small acreage after his retirement, which he fondly named “Empty Pocket Acres.” He was a gentleman farmer for a time, raising small herds of cattle for sale and adopting a stray horse that appeared during one harsh winter. That horse became his buddy for many years.

Chuck had more than 36 years in partnership with Fran Whitney, enjoying traveling together and valuing the time spent camping and fishing.

Timothy (Tim) Andrew Gillett, 45, of Gering, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 1 at Scottsbluff Memorial Hospital.

Tim was born May 18, 1978, in Chadron, Nebraska to Terry and Phyllis Gillett. He attended elementary school in district 46 and 7 in Sioux County. After he graduated from Sioux County High School in 1997, he went on to study for a year at LaGrange School of the Bible in LaGrange, Wyoming.

He enjoyed numerous vocations including helping on his parent’s ranch, security work, customer service representative and pilot car driver.

Tim will be greatly missed for his enjoyment of riding the four-wheeler- checking and working cattle, love of conversing with others, his passion for Nebraska and Green Bay Packer football and playing pitch with his family. He also enjoyed working with the volunteer fire department wherever he was living.&nbsp;

Tim is preceded in death by grandparents Frank and Eileen Robinson, Rowland and Harriett Gillett, sisters Kelly and Jodi, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his parents, Terry and Phyllis Gillett, sister Shelly (Dan) Caskey, nieces Rachel Caskey, Bethany (Jake) DeWitt, Katie Caskey, nephew Caleb Caskey and grandniece Quinn DeWitt.

Memorials may be given to Harrison Bible Church or the Harrison Volunteer Fire Department in Tim’s memory.

William Ancil Penaluna 88 passed away Wednesday November 1, 2023 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, NE.

He was born on May 10, 1935 in Garden Valley, Ca to William and Sara (Waite) Penaluna.

William enjoyed being part of 385 Cruisers car Club of Alliance, NE and took great joy in cruising in his 1960 Studebaker. William was a mechanical engineer who worked for Bio Rad Lab.

William and his wife Carol loved to travel in their motorhome; visiting Palm Springs, Branson, Missouri and a lot of other great places. He enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball and football.

William is survived by his son Jeffrey of Rodeo, CA, his grandchildren, Travis, Ryan, Cody and Levi Penaluna and his great-granddaughter, Katie Penaluna. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife Carol Penaluna to whom he was married for 57 years and his sons, George and Corey.

Vicki Elaine (Sallee) Fiscus was born July 12, 1939 in Deadwood, SD to Kenneth C. and Mae (Alberts) Sallee. She passed into the arms of the Lord on October 31, 2023. Vicki was the only child of a railroad engineer and attended school in Alliance through her junior year and graduated in Aurora, IL in 1957.

She agreed to a blind date with friends in the spring of 1956, where she met and fell in love with a redheaded cowboy. Sure that distance would end her “crush”, Vicki’s parents allowed her to continue dating the young man, and on January 24, 1960, Vicki was united in marriage to Merlyn Wayne Fiscus in Alliance. This true example of love lasted 60 years on earth and an eternity in heaven.

Their first home was in an apartment above Dr. Carl Frank’s Office in Scottsbluff. Vicki was a receptionist/ lab technician there. Vicki often laughed about not knowing how to cook or keep house when they were first married. She was so thankful for her mother-in-law and the Watkins cookbook that she loaned her. They welcomed their first son, Gene, into this home in 1962.

After a brief move to Aurora, IL. The family made their way back home to Rush Creek Land and Cattle near Hyannis, NE. Vicki took on the role of cook for the hired men and the family grew with the addition of Jody in 1966 and Rebecca in 1969. Never backing down from a challenge, Vicki flourished in her surroundings. She loved raising kids in the Sandhills where her gardening skills were born.

Vicki looked at life with optimism and her faith in the Lord grew. After Merlyn broke his leg in a “horse wreck”, they moved the family to the Petersen Quarter Horses farm outside of Bayard. She worked in the hay and corn fields learning to set irrigation tubes and rake hay. She worked campaigns at the Bayard Sugar Factory sewing sugar sacks and cleaned houses to make ends meet. Vicki was the equipment mover and bookkeeper for Fiscus Custom Farming, and worked tax season for Heather Belden. Her part time job in the kitchen at Chimney Rock Villa led her to obtaining a degree in Dietary Management, and worked there until her retirement.

Merlyn and Vicki purchased a small acreage outside of Bayard in 1993 and “retired” in 1997. She continued to help with the farm business and her huge garden. In 2022 she moved into an independent apartment at The Village in Scottsbluff where she enjoyed Bingo, Bible Study and spending time with new friends.

Vicki was baptized with her sons at Bayard Church of Christ where she was a member of the Dorcas Society. She had many lifelong friendships with her sisters there. She was a member of the Red Willow Club for many years and was the Associate Bethel Guardian and Bethel Guardian for Job’s Daughters Bethel #16 of Bayard. She was a Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher and served as treasurer for the Bayard Church of Christ.

Vicki Elaine (Sallee) Fiscus (1939 - 2023)

Marilyn Jean Peck (nee Spilker), 89, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2023, at The Residency in Scottsbluff. A joint service for Jean and her husband, Jim Peck (February 15, 1935-May 23, 2023) will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 13, 2023, at The Residency, 2100 Circle Drive, Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place in accordance with their wishes. A memorial has been established as The James W. Peck and Marilyn Jean Peck Scholarship Fund at the University of Nebraska Foundation for a medical student scholarship. Jean was born January 24, 1934, in Cowles, Nebraska to Harvey and Alda (McBride) Spilker. She graduated from Minden High School in 1952. Jean returned to her education endeavors later in life when she attended Kearney State College from 1967-1971, earning a bachelor’s degree in music education.

She married her high school sweetheart, James “Jim” Whitford Peck, in 1953 in Minden. They welcomed four children while living in Lincoln and Omaha: Scott Douglas, William James, Susan Ellen, and Helen Jean. Jean and Jim lived in Kearney, Nebraska, Columbia, Missouri, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Scottsbluff where they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in March 2023.

Jean loved to play the piano and listen to classical music. She read a lot, volunteered at various libraries, and spent winters sewing and quilting. Jean belonged to several bridge clubs and was an avid Scrabble player. She developed a passion for golf while living in Columbia, Missouri. The invention of instant replay got her interested in football, which turned her into a Husker football fan. As a child she played, ‘boy things’, like cowboys, roller skating, and bike riding with her younger brother, Bill. She admitted to a secret desire to be a female athlete, and naturally became a huge fan of Husker volleyball. She organized the Community Concert series in Kearney and was a faithful blood donor. Her home was always spotless, and ever welcoming of family and friends.

They welcomed four children while living in Lincoln and Omaha: Scott Douglas, William James, Susan Ellen, and Helen Jean. Jean and Jim lived in Kearney, Nebraska, Columbia, Missouri, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Scottsbluff where they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in March 2023.Jean loved to play the piano and listen to classical music. She read a lot, volunteered at various libraries, and spent winters sewing and quilting. Jean belonged to several bridge clubs and was an avid Scrabble player. She developed a passion for golf while living in Columbia, Missouri. The invention of instant replay got her interested in football, which turned her into a Husker football fan. As a child she played, ‘boy things’, like cowboys, roller skating, and bike riding with her younger brother, Bill. She admitted to a secret desire to be a female athlete, and naturally became a huge fan of Husker volleyball. She organized the Community Concert series in Kearney and was a faithful blood donor. Sherry was born on March 15, 1955, to Norman and June (Pritchard) Hand in Kearney, Nebraska. She graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1973. She attended Hastings Community College in 1973 and Kearney State College in 1974 where she played softball and had a great time while doing it.

She married Richard Fisher on March 24, 1978, in Kearney and to this union three children were born: Chevy, James, and Richard Jr.

Sherry worked for the City of Kearney, Ideal Linen, Magnolia Homes, and retired from The Home Depot where she enjoyed helping her contractors.

Bear, SherBear, Momma Bear, Grandma Bear as she was known by many, loved to fly, garden, can her goodies from her garden, watch bull-riding, local racing, and do diamond painting. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she played in the chime choir. Sherry was a past board member of the EAA Chapter 608 where she helped organize airport fly-ins and dressed up as Rosie the Riveter. Her love for softball continued throughout her life. She organized, coached, and played on many teams. She could be found sitting in her chair or at the kitchen table watching the girls play during the yearly Women’s College World Series. Sherry was also an avid Huskers fan, cheering on the Lady Huskers playing volleyball and the guys playing football. GO BIG RED!

One of her favorite things was spending time with her family and going back to “P-town” to visit. She had many stories of growing up on the river and flying airplanes with her dad, achieving a pilot’s license before her driver’s license. She was always on the go as a child and enjoyed visiting her grandparents’ farm, climbing trees, getting into mischief, and playing with her cousins. She loved her grandkids and attended every event she could from football to dance recitals. She and the grandkids would often be together baking her famous snickerdoodle cookies. She made everything fun and convinced her grandkids to brush their teeth by saying she wanted, “freshy fresh kisses”.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Richard Fisher; children, Chevy Fisher, James (Candace) Fisher, and Richard (Rebecca) Fisher Jr.; grandchildren, Jordon, Paige, Silas, Joshua, Caroline, and Amelia Fisher; brothers, Bob (Lea) Hand and Jon (Diane) Hand; brothers-in-law, Roger (Robin) Fisher and David (Lois) Fisher; sister-in-law, Kathleen Fisher; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cindy was born June 22, 1962, in Scottsbluff to Jerry and Grace (Carter) Andrew. She attended elementary school in Henry, Nebraska from Kindergarten through eighth grade. She then transferred to Morrill Public Schools where she graduated from Morrill High School.

Cindy became a proud mother when she welcomed her son, Jeremy and later her daughter, Tiffany, into the world. Cindy married John Guseman in October 2020 and the couple made their home in Russellville.

She was a dependable employee of Arby's for over twenty years. Cindy was well-liked and a favorite face amongst customers throughout her years of employment with the company.

Cindy liked creating ceramics and going for walks in her spare time. She also volunteered many hours assisting at local nursing homes. She was a member of The Rock Church until she relocated to Alabama. Cindy enjoyed every moment spent with her family and loved her grandkids deeply. A smile could always be found on her face and she radiated happiness.

Survivors include her two children, Jeremy Herman of Mitchell, NE and Tiffany Reynolds (Curtis Hanks) also of Mitchell, NE; four grandchildren, Madyson and Dylan Reynolds and Landon and Carsyn Herman; one brother, Jerry David Andrew of Mitchell, NE; one sister, Jamalee (Rick) Caylor of Torrington, WY; husband, John Guseman of Russellville, AL; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gina was born October 18, 1945, in Walsenburg, Colorado to Peter and Lucy (Quirico) Berno. She married Larry Henry Kraus on June 15, 1963, and was blessed with four children. In 1980 Gina moved to Scottsbluff with her children and began working with special needs clients.

Gina had a great talent for crafting. She enjoyed traveling to craft fairs to sell her items and loved meeting new people. She was instrumental in organizing and hosting the Gering annual Oregon Trail Days craft fair. One of her favorite pastimes was socializing with others. Gina was also known to play a game or two of Keno in her down time.

Gina was very committed to her faith and was actively involved in her church, Christ the King. She served on many committees, was an active member of the Prayer Tree Ministry as well as the Treasurer of the Ladies Guild and an auxiliary member of The Legion of Mary.

Gina had a very special love for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include Children, Larry Kraus, Randy Kraus, Tammy Bollman and Gary (Shawna) Kraus. Richard Lee Loyd was born May 4, 1945 to Everett and Dora (Mathis) Loyd in Alliance, Nebraska. He graduated from Minatare High School. He entered the Army as a construction Builder (CB) during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from the Army and started working in construction for over 30 years. Later, he worked for Pathfinder Irrigation district as a Ditch rider for several years. He was also on the MInatare City Council and Mayor of Minatare from 1987 to 1991.

Richard passed away at his home in Scottsbluff on October 28th, 2023, at the age of 78.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Ruth Mathis: parents, Everett and Dora Loyd; his sons, Randy Loyd and Kevin Stratton; sister and husband, Mary (Loyd) and Kenny Eck, Kary (Loyd) Wayne Nolte; brother, Marvin Loyd; and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Loyd; children, Sheri Stratton of Colorado, Diane and&nbsp;Steve Renker of Lincoln, Tammy Stratton of Scottsbluff, Robin and Richard Bessert of Aniwa, WI;&nbsp;Chuck and Bobbie Stratton of Mitchell, Judy Loyd of Gering, Gary Reno of New Mexico, Leslie and Marilyn Reno of Scottsbluff, Lois Jean Petty of Oshkosh, Phillip and Linda Henkel of Bayard, Jim and Linda Reno of Oklahoma, Vicki Reno of North Dakota; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Richard enjoyed playing Santa during the holidays and we will all miss his cooking especially the prime rib and his chili.

Raymond "Ray" Leslie Wright 69 passed away Wednesday October 26th, 2023 peacefully at home. He now rests with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born November 23rd, 1953, to Esther Wright in Greeley, Colorado.&nbsp; Crawford became Ray’s hometown as a toddler.&nbsp;&nbsp; Ray was a resourceful kid and started his mechanical career very young.&nbsp;&nbsp; He and his brother built a go-kart with materials they could scrounge up.&nbsp; Their fun was short as the Crawford police believed dismantling the kart would be best.&nbsp; At age 11 his skills were used to fix his mother’s car, which he gladly did until she ceased driving a few years ago.&nbsp; Throughout his youth he worked many odd jobs including Anderson's dealership and the CO-OP service station in Crawford.&nbsp; Ray was well known for his mix of muscle cars and motorcycles. Ray was sometimes notorious with the town police.&nbsp; Excessive usage of horsepower was a vice hard for Ray to control.&nbsp; After high school he and his brother Bob worked in construction at Missouri Valley Construction.&nbsp; There they worked with crews building I-80.&nbsp; During this time, he dated and then married the love of his life Cheryl Beman in 1977.&nbsp; In 1978 Ray began his railroad career as a Machinist Apprentice for Burlington Northern.&nbsp; After numerous positions and promotions, he retired as a supervisor in 2010.

During their 45 years of marriage Ray and Cheryl had 3 wonderful children, Danea, Scott, and Melissa.&nbsp; Ray spent time coaching and was an avid supporter of his children's sports.&nbsp;

Ray was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He served many positions within the church where he was able to share his strong faith.&nbsp; Ray was never shy about spreading God's good word and always said "God Bless" when saying goodbye.

Ray was a selfless man.&nbsp; He woke each morning with a drive to help others.&nbsp; Ray's willingness to help anyone in need was unparalleled.&nbsp; Countless people received his loving help for whatever his two hands and huge heart could give.&nbsp; Paying it forward was in his DNA.&nbsp; It shall live on forever through those he instilled this passion.

Ray's love of speed and all things mechanical stayed with him throughout life.&nbsp; Ray built many race engines and worked on race cars with his lifelong friends.&nbsp; Together they attended national events, held records and won races.&nbsp; The Wright garage often rumbled with thunder.&nbsp; Ray’s engines would rattle dishes in his neighbor’s cabinets.&nbsp; Famous for his small block Chevy engines, they would breathe unmuffled fire.&nbsp; “Buzzing” to redline the noise would attract a crowd of neighbors young and old.&nbsp; Ray’s shop was a social gathering of motorheads, neighbors and family.&nbsp; There he would spread his wisdom on mechanics and God.&nbsp;

As his children grew and married his grandkids became a favorite part of life.&nbsp; Ray's grandkids loved his '69 Camaro as much as he did.&nbsp; The grandsons took to his love of speed machines.&nbsp; The granddaughters softened his rough hands with their hearts.&nbsp; They will grow up and carry his torch, becoming people’s “Ray” of light - offering a helping hand to one in need.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl of Hemingford, daughter Danea (Corey) Crowder of Beulah Wyoming, son Scott (Alicia) Wright of New Underwood, South Dakota, daughter Melissa (Roy) Bierman of Arnold, Nebraska, grandchildren Tristin and Corbin Crowder, Jordan and Hailey Wright, Brook, Walter, Emma and Ava Bierman.&nbsp;

Also surviving him is his mother Esther Wright, sister Helen (Bob) Arnold, brother Bob (Alta) Wright, sister Kathy (Roger) McCoy, many wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Proceeded in death by his in-laws Jerry and Dorothy Beman, and sister-in-law Vicky Dunn.

His celebration of life will be Saturday, November 4th&nbsp;at the Community Building in Crawford Nebraska – 2:00 PM.&nbsp;

 </figure>Raymond "Ray" Leslie Wright 69 passed away Wednesday October 26th, 2023 peacefully at home. He now rests with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born November 23rd, 1953, to Esther Wright in Greeley, Colorado.&nbsp; Crawford became Ray’s hometown as a toddler.&nbsp;&nbsp; Ray was a resourceful kid and started his mechanical career very young.&nbsp;&nbsp; He and his brother built a go-kart with materials they could scrounge up.&nbsp; Their fun was short as the Crawford police believed dismantling the kart would be best.&nbsp; At age 11 his skills were used to fix his mother’s car, which he gladly did until she ceased driving a few years ago.&nbsp; Throughout his youth he worked many odd jobs including Anderson's dealership and the CO-OP service station in Crawford.&nbsp; Ray was well known for his mix of muscle cars and motorcycles.
