The final month or so of the high school basketball season and the Alliance Bulldogs have the opportunity on Friday night to play one of the premier programs in the Panhandle, as they face the Scottsbluff Bearcats.

Alliance girls are coming off arguably their biggest win of the season after beating Chadron on Tuesday on their senior night, to improve to 7-11 overall.

Scottsbluff is 11-8 after finishing runner-up to Sidney in the Western Conference Tournament last Saturday.&nbsp;

On the boy's side, Alliance will look to get a signature road win and end a losing streak as the 5-13 Bulldogs take on the 14-4 Bearcats. Don't let Alliance's record fool you, they have been competitive against some of the best teams in the state. Now they will try to put together against a complete game against the Western Conference Tournament Champions in the Bearcats.

HS Wrestling: Alliance boys lose dual at Torrington

C.J. Wilcher had a career night, as Nebraska overcame a 19-point deficit to stun No. 6 Wisconsin, 80-72, in overtime Thursday night.&nbsp;

Wilcher matched his career high with 22 points, including five 3-pointers, on 7-of-10 shooting as the junior guard rallied NU back in the final 20 minutes. Wilcher had 12 of his 16 second-half points in a 20-3 spurt as Nebraska erased a 47-29 deficit into a one-point game with 10:48 remaining.

Wilcher’s performance brought a crowd of over 15,000 back to life as the Huskers continued to battle back in the final 10 minutes and in overtime.&nbsp;

The Huskers pulled even at 52-all on a Wilcher jumper with 8:44 left before Max Klesmit got going. The guard hit consecutive 3-pointers and scored 11 of his 13 points in an 11-4 spurt to extend Wisconsin’s cushion to 63-56 with 4:13 remaining.&nbsp;

The Badgers led 65-59 with 3:33 left before the Huskers made another push. NU scored six straight points to tie it at 65-all on a Rienk Mast 3-pointer with 1:03 remaining. The Huskers got a stop on the defensive end and Brice Williams capped the 8-0 run with a pair of free throws with 30.4 seconds left. AJ Storr tied it at 67 and NU had a final chance, but Williams’ jumper was off the mark, sending the game to overtime for the second straight year in Lincoln.&nbsp;

On a night where the Huskers led for less than 10 seconds of regulation, Nebraska (16-6, 6-5 Big Ten) finally took control in overtime. NU trailed 68-67 before Mast’s basket gave NU the lead and the junior forward found Juwan Gary for a 3-point play to make it 72-68 with 3:54 left in overtime.&nbsp;

Storr, who finished with a game-high 28 points for Wisconsin made it a one-point game before Williams’ basket pushed the margin back to three, at 74-71. The Huskers held Wisconsin to 1-of-7 shooting in the extra period and put the game away as a basket by Mast and four Williams free throws provided the final margin.&nbsp;

Mast added 20 points and eight rebounds, while Williams had 17 points and nine rebounds as Nebraska knocked off its second top-10 team of the season.&nbsp;

Wisconsin (16-5, 8-2 Big Ten) shot 55 percent in the first half in building a 16-point lead but was just 11-of-35 (.314) in the final 25 minutes.&nbsp;

Storr was lights out early, scoring the Badgers’ first 10 points while he had 14 points in the first 10:09, as the Badgers raced out to a 27-8 lead less than 10 minutes into the game. The Huskers responded with nine straight points to get back into the contest and pull within 27-17 after a Juwan Gary basket.&nbsp;

NU was within 34-23 before Chucky Hepburn scored seven straight points, the last coming on a 3-point play with 1:34 before halftime to help Wisconsin push the lead back to 18.&nbsp;

Nebraska returns to action this Sunday, Feb. 4 to face No. 14 Illinois in Champaign, Ill. at 5:30 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network and can be heard on the Huskers Radio Network.

Anastasia Tichy and Abby Baxter each earned Big Ten Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards, announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Tichy, a freshman from Salzburg, Austria, was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after setting a facility record in the 200 butterfly at ARC Pool this past weekend against Illinois with a time of 1:59.22. She also contributed a fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly (56.22).&nbsp;

Earlier in the season, at the Hawkeye Invite, Tichy hit a B Standard in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.87.

Baxter, the Big Ten Diver of the Week, swept the diving competition against the Fighting Illini with first-place finishes on the one meter and the three meter. She logged a score of 331.65 on the three meter for a career-best and added a 296.18 on the one meter.

The Huskers return home for a two-day dual with Rutgers this Friday and Saturday. Competition will kick off at 5 p.m. (CT) Friday evening and will resume Saturday morning at 10 a.m. (CT) following senior day festivities.

Alexis Markowski and Darian White each scored 14 points to lead a balanced offense with five Huskers in double figures, as Nebraska worked its way to a 68-54 women's basketball win over Purdue on Wednesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Natalie Potts added 11 points, six rebounds and a game-high four steals, while Kendall Moriarty matched her career high with 11 points off the bench. Jaz Shelley rounded out the five Huskers in double figures with 10 points, a game-high nine rebounds and four assists to help Nebraska improve to 6-4 in the Big Ten and 14-7 overall. Purdue slipped to 2-8 in the conference and 9-12 on the season.

Markowski, who added seven rebounds and three assists on the night, pushed Nebraska out to a 19-17 lead with 10 first-quarter points to set the tone for the Big Red. She also started the second quarter strong with back-to-back buckets before a spectacular kickout pass to Shelley for a three-pointer in transition, followed by another assist to Potts to help the Huskers take a 10-point lead midway through the second period.

Markowski finished the first half with all 14 of her points on the night, and actually had a hand in 19 of Nebraska's 25 points to close the first quarter and start the second.

Purdue rallied late with seven straight points from Abbey Ellis to end the half and cut Nebraska's lead to 32-29 at the break. Ellis finished with a game-high 15 points to go with six rebounds for Purdue.

After Purdue shifted its focus on shutting down Markowski, White emerged in the second half to score 13 of her 14 points on the night from her guard position. Moriarty and Potts both contributed seven points after halftime, while Shelley scored five points in each half.

Nebraska, which won each quarter, outscored the Boilermakers 22-14 in the third to push its lead to 54-43 heading to the final period. The Huskers then opened the fourth by punishing Purdue on the offensive glass, including a second-chance three-pointer from Shelley and a second-chance jumper by Potts on back-to-back possessions to give Nebraska its biggest lead at 61-45 and force a Purdue timeout with 7:36 left.

For the game, Nebraska hit 42.4 percent (25-59) of its shots, including 7-of-22 three-pointers (.318) and 11-of-17 free throws (.647). The Huskers held Purdue to just 36.1 percent (22-61) from the floor, including 4-for-21 (.190) from long range and 6-of-8 free throws. Purdue did win the turnover battle, 13-12.

Caitlyn Harper, who finished with 10 points, was the only Boilermaker other than Ellis to manage double figures.

 Huskers WBB pound past Purdue, 68-54

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Former Nebraska tight end Arik Gilbert pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors Tuesday and was ordered to pay a fine and restitution in connection with&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nebraska-huskers-arik-gilbert-arrested-15722944b64c0e426cd32737b8e8966a">a break-in at a liquor and vape shop</a>&nbsp;in Lincoln last summer.

Gilbert had been charged with burglary, a felony, but prosecutors amended it to trespassing and criminal mischief. Gilbert was fined $400 and ordered to pay $450 for damage he caused to SJ’s Liquor and Vape Shop.

Police said when they arrived at the scene Aug. 29, they found a glass door shattered with large cement chunks from the parking lot and saw Gilbert walking toward the exit carrying a bag. The bag contained stolen vape products, Delta 8, cigars and lighters with a total value of $1,672.07.

Gilbert, from Marietta, Georgia, was a five-star recruit who was the top-ranked tight end prospect and 2019 Gatorade National Player of the Year.

He started eight games for LSU in 2020 and sat out 2021 after transferring to Georgia. He played in three games for the Bulldogs in 2022 and then transferred to Nebraska last spring. He left the program shortly after his arrest.

Ex-Huskers TE Gilbert, a top national recruit in 2019, pleads no contest to misdemeanors in break-in

The Alliance Bulldogs boys' basketball team has proven that they can outplay any team they play. The problem for the Bulldogs is putting together complete games as Chadron overcame a double-digit deficit in the first half to beat Alliance 64-54.

Tristen Timbers looked like a man on a mission in the first half, as he had a quick eight points in the first quarter, to help Alliance build an 11-point lead.&nbsp;

Espen Lanik found a rhythm as well hitting some big shots, but Chadron started to chip the Alliance lead in latter stages of the 2nd quarter.&nbsp; The Cardinals used a run to cut the Alliance lead to just one point at halftime.

Rebounding became an issue for Alliance in 2nd half and Chadron, to their credit knocked down timely three's including three from Thomas Smith. The problem for the Bulldogs is putting together complete games as Chadron overcame a double-digit deficit in the first half to beat Alliance 64-54.</p><p>Tristen Timbers looked like a man on a mission in the first half, as he had a quick eight points in the first quarter, to help Alliance build an 11-point lead.&nbsp;</p><p>Espen Lanik found a rhythm as well hitting some big shots, but Chadron started to chip the Alliance lead in latter stages of the 2nd quarter.&nbsp; The Cardinals used a run to cut the Alliance lead to just one point at halftime.</p><p>Rebounding became an issue for Alliance in 2nd half and Chadron, to their credit knocked down timely three's including three from Thomas Smith. Timbers leads fast start for Alliance, Chadron comes back in 2nd half

There are certain nights in sports where you just needed to be there to fully appreciate the moment, and Tuesday was one of those nights for the Alliance Bulldogs girls' basketball team as they outlasted Chadron 55-48 on Senior Night.

Alliance proved once again why they are one of the toughest places to win on the road in Western Nebraska, especially on Senior Night as the Bulldogs started off fast and never left their foot off of the gas in the win.

The game was back and forth though, as both teams exchanged proverbial punches during the game. Alliance played their best offensive game of the season by scoring 55 points as season high for the Bulldogs. Macey Seebohm had a huge offensive scoring output, with 23 points unofficially. The big key was their balance offensively with Jaelynne Clarke, Ciara Hudson Haylie Winter Addi Weber and Regan Braun all making big plays offensively in key moments.

HS Basketball: Alliance looks for big home wins over Chadron

DENVER --  After playing arguable its best game of the year Friday night while shooting 60% from the field and defeating Colorado-Colorado Springs 93-86, the Chadron State men's basketball team lost by the widest margin of the season Saturday night when Regis overwhelmed the Eagles in the second half and won 86-55 in Denver.

The score was tied at 33-33 at halftime and also knotted at 40-40 three minutes into the second half, but the Rangers outscored CSC 46-15 the rest of the way.  Both teams are now 10-9 overall and 7-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. 

The Eagles shot 42.3% (11-26) from the field in the first half, but a dismal 19.4% (7-36) in the second half for 29% overall.  They were 5-of-19 from 3-point range and a shocking 14-of-29 at the free throw line.

Regis made just 29.7% (11-37) of its field goal attempts in the first half, but was a redhot 70% in (21-30) the second half for 47.8% all told.  That includes going 0-15 on 3-pointers in the first half. The Rangers were 3-9 from behind the arc in the second half.  They made 19 of 23 free shots in the game.

Chase Mayo-Harmon, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, led Regis with 26 points. Eddy Egun, a 6-4 junior, was next with 15 points. Trey Bryant added 12 points and claimed a team-high nine rebounds.

Senior guard Bryce Latimer paced the Eagles with 13 points, followed by Dalton Peterson with 12 points on four 3-pointer. Senior center Porter Anderson contributed 10 points is his second game back after being sidelined by an injury since early December.

Josh Robinson added eight points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the Eagles, but Regis out-rebounded CSC 49-39. There were just 13 turnovers in the game.

The Eagles will have only one game this coming weekend.  They will host South Dakota Mines on Saturday, Feb. 3 following the women's game that will tip off at 1 o'clock.

Alliance boys Wrestling win final two duals at McCook Duals

C.J. Wilcher scored a game-high 14 points, but turnovers proved costly in a 73-51 loss at Maryland on Saturday afternoon.&nbsp;

Wilcher went 5-of-7 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, but was the only Husker in double figures, as Nebraska (15-6, 5-5 Big Ten) was held to a season-low 51 points.&nbsp;

Nebraska was done in by turnovers, as the Huskers had 18 turnovers that Maryland converted into 25 points and were out-rebounded 43-25 on the glass.&nbsp;

Julian Reese had 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead four Maryland (13-8, 5-5 Big Ten) players in double figures. Jamie Kaiser Jr. had 14 points off the bench, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, while Jahmir Young and Jahari Long had 12 and 11 points, respectively.&nbsp;

Nebraska got off to a blistering start, hitting four of their first five 3-pointers in jumping to a 12-2 lead after a Rienk Mast 3-pointer at the 15:30 mark.&nbsp;

Nebraska led 15-8 before Maryland ran off seven straight points, including five off the bench from Kaiser to knot it up. The Terps trailed 20-18 after a Wilcher 3-pointer before using another 10-2 run to build a 28-22 lead after a Julian Reese dunk.

The Huskers hit seven of their first 10 3-point attempts to begin the game, but Maryland, which averaged 6.2 3-pointers per game, hit seven in the first half alone and turned nine Husker turnovers into 14 points.

Nebraska pulled to within 28-25 after a Jamarques Lawrence 3-pointer with 7:23 left in the first half, but Maryland closed the half on a 16-2 spurt to build a 44-27 halftime lead, as the Huskers cooled off and shot 41 percent from the floor.&nbsp;

Maryland’ bench combined for 22 first-half points including 11 each from Long and Kaiser, who combined to shoot 7-of-10 from the floor, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range.&nbsp;

Nebraska got to within 44-30 after a Keisei Tominaga floater and a free throw from Brice Williams in the opening minutes of the second half, but Maryland went on an 8-0 run to push the margin to 22 at 52-30.&nbsp;

Nebraska trailed 57-32 before the Huskers ran off seven straight points to force a Maryland timeout with 11:49 left. Nebraska was not unable to pull closer, as two straight Husker turnovers were converted into baskets to stretch the lead back to 62-39 with 10:41 left.

The Huskers are back in action on Thursday evening, as they host Big Ten leader and No. 13 Wisconsin. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available by visiting Huskers.com/Tickets.

Jamie Kaiser Jr. had 14 points off the bench, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, while Jahmir Young and Jahari Long had 12 and 11 points, respectively.&nbsp;</p><p>Nebraska got off to a blistering start, hitting four of their first five 3-pointers in jumping to a 12-2 lead after a Rienk Mast 3-pointer at the 15:30 mark.&nbsp;</p><p>Nebraska led 15-8 before Maryland ran off seven straight points, including five off the bench from Kaiser to knot it up. The Terps trailed 20-18 after a Wilcher 3-pointer before using another 10-2 run to build a 28-22 lead after a Julian Reese dunk.</p><p>The Huskers hit seven of their first 10 3-point attempts to begin the game, but Maryland, which averaged 6.2 3-pointers per game, hit seven in the first half alone and turned nine Husker turnovers into 14 points.</p><p>Nebraska pulled to within 28-25 after a Jamarques Lawrence 3-pointer with 7:23 left in the first half, but Maryland closed the half on a 16-2 spurt to build a 44-27 halftime lead, as the Huskers cooled off and shot 41 percent from the floor.&nbsp;</p><p>Maryland’ bench combined for 22 first-half points including 11 each from Long and Kaiser, who combined to shoot 7-of-10 from the floor, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range.&nbsp;</p><p>Nebraska got to within 44-30 after a Keisei Tominaga floater and a free throw from Brice Williams in the opening minutes of the second half, but Maryland went on an 8-0 run to push the margin to 22 at 52-30.&nbsp;</p><p>Nebraska trailed 57-32 before the Huskers ran off seven straight points to force a Maryland timeout with 11:49 left. Nebraska was not unable to pull closer, as two straight Husker turnovers were converted into baskets to stretch the lead back to 62-39 with 10:41 left.</p><p>The Huskers are back in action on Thursday evening, as they host Big Ten leader and No. 13 Wisconsin. Turnovers hurt Nebraska in MBB loss to Maryland

Iowa City, Iowa&nbsp;- Jaz Shelley led Nebraska with 19 points and Alexis Markowski added her 13th double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough to overcome 38 points from Iowa's Caitlin Clark in a 92-73 loss to the Hawkeyes on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss in front of 14,998 fans at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Nebraska slipped to 5-4 in the Big Ten and 13-7 overall while Iowa improved to 8-1 in the conference and 19-2 overall.

Iowa opened the game on a 9-0 run, but Nebraska did not panic, getting back-to-back buckets from Markowski and back-to-back threes from Shelley to cut the Iowa lead to 14-11 at the end of the first quarter.

In a back-and-forth second quarter, Nebraska took its first lead of the day at 15-14 on a pair of Darian White free throws just one minute into the period. The lead changed hands 10 times in the quarter with the Huskers taking their biggest lead at 31-27 off a Callin Hake three-pointer with 1:54 left in the half that forced an Iowa timeout.

The Hawkeyes then closed the half the same way they started it - with a 9-0 run capped by a Clark three-pointer to send Iowa to halftime with a 36-31 lead.

The Huskers hung within two possessions at the half despite hitting just 33.3 percent (11-33) of their field goals, including just 4-of-17 threes (.235). NU also lost the first-half turnover battle 10-7, but outscored Iowa 6-5 in points off turnovers. The Huskers dominated the glass, 23-16, with Markowski pulling down eight boards to go along with her eight first-half points. Hake added seven points, while Shelley pitched in six points and four assists in the first 20 minutes.

Iowa hit 44.8 percent (13-29) of its shots, but just 3-of-13 three-pointers (.231). Clark led Iowa with 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the half, while Kate Martin added eight and Sydney Affolter got all seven of her points off the bench in the final four minutes of the half for the Hawkeyes.

In the second half, Clark caught fire early in the quarter to quickly push Iowa's lead to double digits. Nebraska stemmed the tide and went to the fourth trailing 63-49. The Big Red cut the lead to 11 points in the fourth with opportunities to creep even closer, but missed chances to move within single digits. Clark, who went 6-for-8 from long range in the second half, and the Hawkeyes pulled away down the stretch for the 19-point win.

Markowski got her 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting and a 5-of-6 game at the line, while Shelley hit 5-of-11 three-pointers while adding a team-high five assists.&nbsp;

Hake added a third double-digit scoring day for the Huskers with 11 points on 2-of-3 three-point shooting, while also contributing four rebounds. White and Logan Nissley each contributed seven points, while Nissley pitched in four assists and three rebounds.

Martin finished with 16 points while Affolter also closed in double figures with 12 points for Iowa.

As a team, Nebraska finished at 39 percent (23-59) from the field, including 10-for-29 (.345) from three-point range, including 6-for-12 in the second half. The Huskers hit 17-of-25 free throws. The Big Red ruled the boards, 40-31, including a 13-4 edge on the offensive glass, but Nebraska lost the turnover battle, 20-11.

Iowa was more efficient with 52.5 percent (31-59) shooting, including 12-of-29 (.414) threes, including 8-of-15 from Clark. The Hawkeyes were also 18-of-22 at the line.

Nebraska returns to Lincoln to open an important two-game home stand on Wednesday, Jan. 31 against Purdue. Huskers WBB falls to Iowa and Caitlin Clark

Madison, Wis.&nbsp;- The Huskers earned three bonus-point victories and won eight bouts overall as the No. 6 Nebraska wrestling team defeated No. 21 Wisconsin 28-9 on Sunday afternoon.

The win marked the Huskers’ fourth-straight conference victory as the team improved to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the Big Ten. With the defeat, the Badgers fell to 6-4 on the season (0-3 Big Ten).&nbsp;

The dual against the Badgers opened with No. 12 Caleb Smith facing No. 3 Eric Barnett at 125. Smith earned an escape in both the first and second periods, but it was not enough as Barnett used a takedown, an escape and the riding time point to earn the 5-3 decision.&nbsp;

At 133, No. 19 Jacob Van Dee faced Wisconsin’s Nicolar Rivera. Van Dee came out quickly and got the early takedown to lead 3-1 after the first period. With over two minutes of riding time, Van Dee tallied the escape to open Period Three and Rivera responded with a takedown, but Van Dee earned another escape and the riding time point for the 6-4 decision.&nbsp;

With the match tied 3-3, No. 7 Brock Hardy wrestled Felix Lettini at 141. Hardy collected two early takedowns and over a minute and a half of riding time after the first period. Hardy then added three more takedowns and four nearfall points to claim his fourth tech. fall of the season. 19-4.&nbsp;

At 149, No. 1 Ridge Lovett met Wisconsin’s Julian George and tallied his 19th-straight victory and sixth fall on the season. Lovett opened the match with a pair of takedowns before locking the cradle and securing the pin to put the Huskers up 14-3.&nbsp;

For the second-straight dual, Ethan Stiles got the call at 157 and faced Luke Mechler. The pair wrestled a scoreless opening three minutes before Stiles got on the board with an escape to open Period Two. Stiles scored the match-winning takedown in the final period to secure the 4-1 decision and his first career Big Ten dual win.&nbsp;

After a brief intermission, No. 18 Antrell Taylor wrestled No. 5 Dean Hamiti in his second-straight ranked matchup. Taylor scored an escape in the first and third period, but it was not enough as Taylor fell by decision, 7-2.

Up next, No. 33 Bubba Wilson faced No. 12 Max Maylor in the dual’s third ranked bout of the day. Despite a pair of escapes by Wilson, Maylor came out on top 4-2 to earn Wisconsin’s second-straight victory.

After a lot of action in the opening two periods, Hutmacher led 13-11 with two minutes remaining. Hutmacher then held steady and secured the 19-14 win and his first Big Ten dual victory.&nbsp;

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Chadron State College men's basketball team missed its first four field goal attempts to fall behind 7-0, but tallied 11 of the next 13 points and led nearly all the rest of the way while defeating homestanding Colorado-Colorado Springs 93-87 in a crucial Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game Friday night.

The win was just the second of the season on the road for the Eagles who are now 10-8 overall and 7-5 in the RMAC while hanging on to fourth place standings. The Mountain Lions are 9-10 and 5-8.

The Eagles, who shot a season-high 59.7% from the field, took the lead for keeps at 23-21 with eight minutes left before halftime on the first of three baskets—two of them putbacks and the other a dunk—in just barely over a minute by center Porter Anderson. The 6-7 senior was playing for the first time in six weeks after recovering from a hip injury.

Anderson, the Chadron State homecoming king last fall, also scored his team's final three baskets of the first half when the Eagles had a  42-31 intermission lead.

The Mountain Lions opened the second half like a house afire, cutting the Eagles' margin to 60-57 with 11:30 left on the clock. However, CSC's senior forward Josh Robinson scored the game's next three field goals and also poured in three more baskets in a 30-second flurry a few minutes later to put the visitors ahead 80-65 with five minutes remaining.

The Colorado team did not fold.  With freshman standout Xavier Martinez leading the way, the Lions cut the Eagles' lead to 83-76 with two minutes remaining before alternate guard Jalen Patterson nailed a 3-pointer to give the visitors renewed momentum.

The Eagles were 37 of 62 from the field, including seven of 16 on 3-pointers.  Colorado Springs shot 50.8% (33 of 65) and was five of 19 from afar.

Robinson paced the Eagles with 22 points while guard Bryce Latimer tallied 17, all but four of them in the second half. Both Anderson and Patterson added 12 points and Dalton Peterson 11. Martinez's 27 points led the Mountain Lions. Hannes Saar was next with 19, followed by Noah Baca with 13 and David Jabedo with 12.

The Eagles will play the Regis Rangers in Denver on Saturday evening.  Regis edged Colorado Christian 71-70 Friday night.

<p>By: Con Marshall<br>CSC Sports Information</p><p>COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Chadron State College men's basketball team missed its first four field goal attempts to fall behind 7-0, but tallied 11 of the next 13 points and led nearly all the rest of the way while defeating homestanding Colorado-Colorado Springs 93-87 in a crucial Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game Friday night.</p><p>The win was just the second of the season on the road for the Eagles who are now 10-8 overall and 7-5 in the RMAC while hanging on to fourth place standings. The Mountain Lions are 9-10 and 5-8.</p><p>The Eagles, who shot a season-high 59.7% from the field, took the lead for keeps at 23-21 with eight minutes left before halftime on the first of three baskets—two of them putbacks and the other a dunk—in just barely over a minute by center Porter Anderson. The 6-7 senior was playing for the first time in six weeks after recovering from a hip injury.</p><p>Anderson, the Chadron State homecoming king last fall, also scored his team's final three baskets of the first half when the Eagles had a  42-31 intermission lead.</p><p>The Mountain Lions opened the second half like a house afire, cutting the Eagles' margin to 60-57 with 11:30 left on the clock. However, CSC's senior forward Josh Robinson scored the game's next three field goals and also poured in three more baskets in a 30-second flurry a few minutes later to put the visitors ahead 80-65 with five minutes remaining.</p><p>The Colorado team did not fold.  With freshman standout Xavier Martinez leading the way, the Lions cut the Eagles' lead to 83-76 with two minutes remaining before alternate guard Jalen Patterson nailed a 3-pointer to give the visitors renewed momentum.</p><p>The Eagles were 37 of 62 from the field, including seven of 16 on 3-pointers.  Colorado Springs shot 50.8% (33 of 65) and was five of 19 from afar.</p><p>Robinson paced the Eagles with 22 points while guard Bryce Latimer tallied 17, all but four of them in the second half. Both Anderson and Patterson added 12 points and Dalton Peterson 11. Martinez's 27 points led the Mountain Lions. Hannes Saar was next with 19, followed by Noah Baca with 13 and David Jabedo with 12.</p><p>The Eagles will play the Regis Rangers in Denver on Saturday evening. Robinson powers Chadron State to road win over UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Chadron State College women's basketball fell 66-58 Friday night in Colorado Springs, Colorado against the UCCS Mountain Lions.

CSC drops to 5-11 overall and 3-9 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The victors improve to 12-7 overall and 9-4 in the RMAC.

The Eagles led 10-6 in the first quarter but were held scoreless for two minutes in which the Mountain Lions gained the lead. A three pointer by Emily Vidal with 10 seconds remaining gave the hosts a seven-point lead.

UCCS stretched its lead to 12 at halftime and 14 at the conclusion of the third period. The Eagles outscored their opponent 16-10 in the fourth but were unable to ever get the deficit past eight.

The Eagles out-rebounded their opponent 34 to 28 but lost the turnover battle 28 to 10. The Mountain Lions scored 20 points off turnovers while Chadron State scored 12.

Chadron State made 18 of 40 attempts from the field for 45 percent in the loss. They finished 3 of 12 from behind the arc but once again showed consistency from the free throw line, making 19 of 23 attempts (82.6%).

The Mountain Lions attempted 23 more shots than CSC, making 26 of the 63 attempts (41.3 percent). The hosts made six of 14 attempts from three but struggled from the free throw line, converting eight of 17 attempts (47.1%).

Megan Counts, a sophomore from Green River, Wyoming and Allison Olsen, a sophomore from Douglas, Wyoming, both scored in double digits for the Eagles. Counts had a game high 18 points while Olsen finished with 15. The duo was excelled from the free throw line, making 14 of 17 combined attempts.

Awoti Akoi, a junior from Sioux Falls, S.D. and Counts both had a team high seven rebounds.

The Mountain Lions had a trio score in double-digits. Amyah Moore Allen had 12 points while Maison White and Vidal both added 11.

CSC women challenge Mountain Lions behind Counts' big night

On Thursday evening, Alliance faced a tough matchup as the 8th seed against the #1 seeded Sidney Red Raiders, and while the Bulldogs took some positives from the game, it wasn't enough in the 72-41 defeat.

Sophomore Espen Lanik had a strong game with four 3-point makes to finish with a game high 14-points. Junior Seth Meyring had 11, Senior Tristen Timbers had 8, Senior Fillipo Bandera had five and Sophomore Lexton Salcido had three points.

One issue for Alliance was that they scored only 14 first half points, before finishing the 2nd half strong with 27. Landen Riddle and Reid Fiscus each scored 17 points for Sidney.

The Bulldogs now faced Sterling tonight (Friday) at 6:30 p.m at the Gering main gym.
