If the players in this year's tournament somehow look older, it's not your eyesight. It's the new normal. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic that wreaked havoc on college basketball the past three seasons, the NCAA relaxed eligibility and transfer rules and voila! — juniors and seniors are everywhere and playing key roles across the map. And no one played a bigger role than Teddy ‘Buckets’ Allen, who scored 37 points, including the final 15, to lead 12th-seeded New Mexico State — the fifth program Allen has suited up for — to a 70-63 upset of No. 5 Connecticut.

Alliance High School Senior Angie Davis has signed a Letter of Intent to attend Doane University in Crete, Ne.&nbsp; &nbsp;and will be a member of the womens basketball team.&nbsp; Angie is a 3 year starter for the Alliance Bulldogs.&nbsp; She averaged 7.5 points and 2.8 rebounds this season. She also made&nbsp; 34,&nbsp; 3-pointers and&nbsp; shot&nbsp; 64% from the free throw line.&nbsp; She played her freshman season at Hyannis High School where she scored over 100 points.&nbsp; At AHS, she also competed in volleyball, cross country and track &amp; field.&nbsp; Angie says it has always been her dream to play college basketball and she looks forward to beginning her college career.&nbsp; Angie is the Daughter of Lori and Scott Davis of rural Garden County.

Doane is a member of the GPAC Conference and the NAIA.&nbsp; The Womens Basketball Team is coached by Ryan Baumgartner. The Tigers went 12-18 this past season.&nbsp;

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Russell Wilson flashed that mile-wide smile and embraced the prospect of playing in the loaded AFC and in the shadows of John Elway and Peyton Manning.

“I want to win three to four more Super Bowls. That's the plan, that's the goal, that's the mission, that's the vision," Wilson declared Wednesday after the NFL signed off on the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/seattle-seahawks-denver-broncos-nfl-business-sports-c9fe3ed6d40314d91eec74404d37573e">biggest blockbuster trade of the offseason</a>.

“So, let’s do it. Why not?” the former Seahawks QB added as he scanned the auditorium where Elway himself, now a consultant to general manager George Paton, stood smiling in the back.

The deal agreed to last week sent the star 33-year-old quarterback from Seattle to the Rocky Mountains for a massive package of picks and players.

Wilson said he picked Manning's brain about making a mid-career transition, about schools in Denver, and about the organization once it became apparent he'd get his wish and move to Colorado for the second — and he hopes, final — chapter of his stellar career.

Although the trade couldn't be finalized until the start of the new league year Wednesday, Wilson and his wife, R&amp;B singer-songwriter Ciara, already have visited sick children in Denver just like the couple used to do in Seattle.

Wilson said he aims to play 10 to 12 more seasons and finish his career in Denver after a fruitful decade in Seattle, where the Seahawks made it clear in congratulatory Twitter posts Wednesday that Wilson was the one who had&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Seahawks/status/1504191589622575107?s=20&amp;t=bW_qa551n1RtQivenBUz6w">asked for the breakup</a>.

“Yeah, I didn't initiate it," Wilson retorted. “It was definitely mutual.”

He also insisted he harbors no ill will toward his former team.

“Hard feelings? No. I had 10 incredible years” there, Wilson said. "... And what I do know is that some of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, from Manning to Tom Brady, Drew Brees, have gone from one place to another, guys I’ve always known and admired. So, in this moment, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to continue to grow and learn.”

Wilson said he believes he's not even halfway through his NFL career because of his work ethic and focus on health and nutrition. He didn't miss a game until last year, when a fractured right middle finger sidelined him for a month after he'd started his first 165 games, including 16 in the playoffs.

Wilson becomes the first QB to join the team he beat in the Super Bowl, having vanquished the Broncos 43-8 after the 2013 season. Now he wants to follow Manning and Brady in winning a Super Bowl with his second team.

“Their best years are 30- to 40-plus range,” Wilson said. “You see Tom coming back, Drew as long as he played, you know. So, to me, I ain't even got started yet.”

Wilson isn't just playing in the shadow of great quarterbacks in a QB-crazed city, he's joining an AFC that's loaded with the likes of Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. He's also now part of the division's Mount Rushmore of Quarterbacks in the AFC West that also features Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and Derek Carr.

“Well, first of all, why would you want it any other way?” Wilson said. “I want to compete at the highest level. So, I think first of all, we need to talk about John Elway, about Peyton Manning.”

He recounted going to the Manning passing camp as a high schooler and meeting Manning in Denver on a visit before the Seahawks drafted him out of Wisconsin in 2012 — after he decided to quit baseball (he was once in the Colorado Rockies' minor league system) and focus on football.

“So, those kind of memories, it's an honor, it's a tradition, it's a place of excellence,” Wilson said. “And that's the standard that I have to bring every day. That's the only thing I know.”

And as far as the AFC West goes, Wilson said, “I want to play with the best. I don't fear anything.”

Wilson has two years left on his contract that will pay him $24 million in 2022, although the Broncos might give him a new megadeal before the season even begins, one that could double his annual salary.

In Seattle, GM John Schneider said it had become apparent to the Seahawks it would be difficult to sign Wilson to an extension beyond his current contract that is set to expire after 2023.

“I don’t know if those were the exact words," Schneider said, "but we were under the impression that there wouldn’t be a long-term extension.”

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he never wanted to lose Wilson but “we're surprised at how good a deal came to us.”

That deal includes first- and second-round picks this year and next along with QB Drew Lock, DE Shelby Harris and TE Noah Fant.

“It wasn’t about (a soured) relationship. It was about opportunity," Carroll said. "... He’s seen a lot of great players and great athletes do a lot of great things by making that move somewhere in their career, whether it was the quarterbacks that we know of, what happens in the NBA, baseball guys do it.

"I think it intrigued him, and so it made it available after a long discussion, a lot of time together and all that, that we were eye to eye, OK, let’s go down this road and see what happens.”

The end of a season is always a little sad...you miss the games, bus rides, practices, teammates and for some it's the last time you might play High School sports. But you will always have the friendships and memories. That was the main theme for the Alliance High School Boys Basketball Team Banquet Monday night.&nbsp;&nbsp;

AHS went 6-18 this season, but Coach Michael Baker praised his team for always working hard.&nbsp; Coach mentioned the team Unity Goals of... Composure, Energy, Focus and Togetherness and how the players lived up to those goals, when sometimes things were not going well.&nbsp; Coach Baker also gave special thanks to Seniors Kellen Muhr, Jayden McCracken and Isaac Weems for their dedication and leadership.&nbsp;

Coach Baker will be leaving AHS at the end of this school year. He has accepted position at the new, Lincoln Northwest High School and will teach Social Studies and be the Boys Head Basketball Coach.&nbsp; Under his direction at AHS, The Bulldogs made three State Tournament appearances.&nbsp; We will have a season wrap up interview with Coach Baker, on a Panhandle Post Podcast later this week.&nbsp; &nbsp;

AHS Boys Basketball honors Seniors at Team Banquet

&nbsp; CHADRON, Neb. – March 14, 2022 –&nbsp;The Chadron State College softball team went 1-1 on Monday, with Northern State visiting for a non-conference doubleheader at CSC Softball Field. The Eagles'&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8061">Kenzi Garner</a>&nbsp;pitched a complete game shutout to win a pitching duel, 2-0, in a noon game, before the visitors exacted revenge in the bottom half of the doubleheader, winning 9-2. Garner scattered seven hits, only allowing the Wolves more than a single baserunner on one occasion, as her defense backed her up with a highlight reel of big plays. CSC scored both of its two runs – one earned, one unearned – in a fifth-inning push which saw second baseman&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4556">Addison Spears</a>&nbsp;walk, shortstop&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8068">Jessica Strandlund</a>&nbsp;reach safely on an error, and both left fielder&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8065">Aliyah Rothstein</a>&nbsp;and pinch-hitter&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8060">Paige Edwards</a>&nbsp;bat for singles. Garner scattered seven hits, only allowing the Wolves more than a single baserunner on one occasion, as her defense backed her up with a highlight reel of big plays. The Huskers dominated the first half en route to a 14-point halftime lead, but Northwestern outscored Nebraska by 16 in the second half, as the Wildcats rallied for a 71-69 victory. The loss snapped Nebraska's three-game winning streak, as the Huskers ended their season with a 10-22 record. Northwestern, which defeated Nebraska for the third time this season, evened its record at 15-15 and advanced to play Iowa on Thursday. The Huskers stretched their 14-point halftime lead to 15 with 15:28 to play. But Northwestern responded to that 15-point deficit with a 14-0 run in less than three minutes. Nebraska continued to hold the lead until back-to-back 3-pointers put Northwestern in front by one with 6:24 remaining. From there, the lead changed hands twice and the game was tied twice before Chase Audige broke the final tie with the game-winning free throw 18.1 seconds remaining. Down one with the ball, Nebraska was whistled for an offensive foul on its next possession, giving the ball back to Northwestern. Boo Bouie then knocked down 1-of-2 free throws to make it a two-point game and&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=42978">Trey McGowens'</a>&nbsp;driving layup with two seconds left was blocked to seal Northwestern's victory. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m., with doors opening 90 minutes prior to first serve. The Huskers will also sign autographs after the match.&nbsp; Tickets will go on sale through Etix and at the Heartland Events Center Box Office at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 10. All tickets will be reserved at $10. There will be a handling charge on all tickets purchased from Etix. No tickets will be sold through the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office. Nebraska last played in Grand Island in the 2015 spring season, sweeping Kansas State in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,006 at the Heartland Events Center. The 8-0 run gave the Huskers a 33-30 lead with 4:34 left in the opening half and Nebraska led the rest of the way. With their second Big Ten road win in three days, the Huskers improved to 9-21 on the season and 3-16 in conference action. In a battle of the Big Ten's top two freshmen,&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=42989">Bryce McGowens</a>&nbsp;was outstanding for the Big Red. He scored 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting while knocking down 8-of-9 free throws. McGowens scored 14 second-half points to help the Huskers hold the lead. &nbsp; CHADRON, Neb. -- February 26, 2022 --&nbsp;The Chadron State College men's basketball season didn't turn out as well as was hoped, but the Eagles ended it at home with a pulsating 89-87 win over the pesky Colorado Christian Cougars on Saturday night. &nbsp; The game was tight all the way and featured plenty of impressive shooting by both teams. There were 11 ties and 14 lead changes, and neither ever led by more than seven points. The Eagles were 26-of-55 from the field, including a season-high of 14-of-28 on 3-pointers, to go with 23-of-29 from the free throw line. The Cougars sank 31-of-60 field goal shots while going 13-of-25 from behind the arc, and 12-of-16 at the charity stripe. The Eagles didn't take the lead for keeps until the final 2:45 when&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4663">CJ Jennings's</a>&nbsp;jump shot while he was on the fly swirled around the rim and finally dropped through the nets to make the score 84-83. After Chadron State got a stop,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8009">Mason Hiemstra</a>&nbsp;made a determined, driving, "hop and stop" layup to put the Eagles up by three with 1:45 remaining.&nbsp; After Christian's 6-10 center Isaiah Alonzo sank two free throws with 1:16 left, each team missed a shot on its next possession. &nbsp;The Eagles' Teddy Parham grabbed the rebound following the Cougars' miss, and while tangled up with a Cougar, shuffled the ball off to teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4653">Marcus Jefferson</a>&nbsp;with 17.2 seconds remaining. Jefferson was immediately fouled and made both free shots to give CSC an 88-85 lead. The Cougars' hot-shooting Ross Williams, who finished with 37 points, had a rare miss on a three-pointer, but Alonzo grabbed the rebound and scored with 3.6 seconds still showing. As soon as the Eagles got the ball inbounds, Jennings was fouled again. He made the first shot, but he missed the second. Alonzo got the rebound and hurled the ball the length of the court, but it didn't connect. Jennings, the only senior on the active roster, paced the Eagles with 27 points, 19 of them in the first half, when he was 5-of-9 from 3-point range.&nbsp; Parham added a season-high 20 points that included 4-of-5 from behind the arc, Jefferson finished with 16 points, half of them free throws, and Hiemstra scored 15. Williams, a 5-10 senior from Detroit, got his 37 points on 13-of-21 from the field, including 7-of-10 from long range and 4-4 on free throws.&nbsp; Alonzo finished with 21 points and 16 rebounds, while another small guard, DJ McDonald, added 14 points and was credited with eight assists. Jennings leads CSC to exciting finish in season finale victory over CCU

CHADRON, Neb -- February 26, 2022 --&nbsp;After a 79-66 win by Colorado Christian (9-18, 6-15 RMAC) during Saturday night's&nbsp;Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball game, the Chadron State College women will finish with a 7-19 overall record and 6-15 conference record to close out the 2021-22 season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Cougars took advantage of their offensive rebounds, scoring 22 second-chance points versus the Eagles' seven points. They also outrebounded the Eagles 50-41.&nbsp;

The first quarter was slow as both teams each scored only 12 points. No three-pointers were&nbsp;landed,&nbsp;and eight fouls were called between both teams.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Cougars and Eagles turned it around in quarter two, uncorking 27 points and 20 points, respectively. The halftime score was 39-32 Colorado Christian.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In the second half the Eagles were unable to secure the lead once. The Cougars pulled away by scoring 18 points in the third quarter and 22 points in the fourth.&nbsp;

CSC finished 35.3% from the field (24-68), 33.3% beyond the arch (5-15), and 76.5% at the charity line (13-17).&nbsp;&nbsp;

Two 2021 seniors and four 2022 seniors were honored after the game for their loyalty and dedication to the&nbsp;CSC women's basketball program.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The two 2021 seniors who got the recognition they were owed but were unable to receive during last year's shortened season&nbsp;were&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4345">Taryn Foxen</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4346">Rachel Henkle</a>. This year's seniors were&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4343">Bailey Brooks</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4348">Brittni McCully</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4350">Jori Peters</a>, and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4351">Tatum Peterson</a>.&nbsp;

"I'm so thankful that these seniors went through this program," said Head Women's Basketball Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/coaches.aspx?rc=524">Janet Raymer</a>. "They are leaving big shoes to fill.&nbsp;I'm&nbsp;sad to see them go but excited for the future of the program that they have helped build."&nbsp;

<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4644">Ashayla Powers</a>&nbsp;finished as the Eagles' top scorer of 2021-22. She had 347 points in 25 games played.  </figure>BY:&nbsp; ZACH CARATTINI CSC Sports InformationCHADRON, Neb -- February 26, 2022 --&nbsp;After a 79-66 win by Colorado Christian (9-18, 6-15 RMAC) during Saturday night's&nbsp;Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball game, the Chadron State College women will finish with a 7-19 overall record and 6-15 conference record to close out the 2021-22 season.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Cougars took advantage of their offensive rebounds, scoring 22 second-chance points versus the Eagles' seven points. They also outrebounded the Eagles 50-41.&nbsp;The first quarter was slow as both teams each scored only 12 points. No three-pointers were&nbsp;landed,&nbsp;and eight fouls were called between both teams.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Cougars and Eagles turned it around in quarter two, uncorking 27 points and 20 points, respectively. The halftime score was 39-32 Colorado Christian.&nbsp;&nbsp;In the second half the Eagles were unable to secure the lead once. The Cougars pulled away by scoring 18 points in the third quarter and 22 points in the fourth.&nbsp;CSC finished 35.3% from the field (24-68), 33.3% beyond the arch (5-15), and 76.5% at the charity line (13-17).&nbsp;&nbsp;Two 2021 seniors and four 2022 seniors were honored after the game for their loyalty and dedication to the&nbsp;CSC women's basketball program.&nbsp;&nbsp;The two 2021 seniors who got the recognition they were owed but were unable to receive during last year's shortened season&nbsp;were&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4345">Taryn Foxen</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4346">Rachel Henkle</a>. Mitchell's Peters closes CSC career with huge 22 point night in season finale

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg will return for a fourth season but has agreed to a pay cut and a reduced buyout if he’s fired after next season. Athletic Director Trev Alberts made the announcement on Thursday night. Hoiberg is 21-65 overall and 6-49 in the Big Ten entering a home game against No. 25 Iowa on Friday. The Huskers are 7-20 this season, with just one win in Big Ten play. Hoiberg’s salary will be reduced to $3.25 million from $3.50 million, and he will forfeit a $500,000 retention bonus. His contract buyout was reduced from $18.5 million to $11 million.
