ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Broncos Pro Bowl linebacker Bradley Chubb needs surgery to remove bone spurs from his left ankle just four months after undergoing a similar surgery on his right ankle.

Chubb said in a&nbsp;video posted on the team's website&nbsp;Tuesday that with the Broncos (2-0) in the midst of a resurgence, he's going to work hard to get back this season.

“When this thing is healed up I expect to see a whole new Bradley Chubb, a whole new animal, a whole new dog,” Chubb said. “I feel like 2018 was my last full year healthy and I feel like when I’m done with this it’s going to be 10 times that and really excited just to see everything that comes full circle.”

Chubb left Denver's 23-13 win at Jacksonville in the first half Sunday after feeling a stabbing pain in his left ankle while trying to get to Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

“It was during that 2-minute drive I just tried to run the corner and I felt it wasn't all the way there,” Chubb said. “I’ve been dealing with this bone spur I’ve got in my ankle and sometimes when I try to turn the corner it gets a little annoying and it feels like a stab-type pain.”

Chubb missed the opener against the New York Giants because of the injury. He and Von Miller have played 21 games together out of a possible 50 since John Elway selected him with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 draft.

Chubb came back from a torn ACL in 2019 to earn his first Pro Bowl berth last season, but he missed the final two games with a right ankle injury. In May he underwent surgery to remove bone spurs and missed most of the offseason program.

The other ankle began bothering him last month and he missed the opener.

“I did everything I could to manage it and try to come back and play," Chubb said. "I took the New York week off trying to calm it down just a little bit and then this Jacksonville week I tried to do everything to get back on the field and unfortunately all those things weren't working in my favor.

“So, the thing is now just to go in and clean it up and be right back."

Chubb's start Sunday marked his first game alongside pass rush partner Miller since Sept. 29, 2019. But he started to limp off after a play in the second quarter before going to his hands and knees and punching the ground as trainers went out to escort him to the sideline. He was replaced by Malik Reed and didn't return.

"I was frustrated on the sideline, throwing my hands down, throwing my helmet down just because I know that this team is a special team,” Chubb said.

“These past couple of years haven’t been going our way in the win column and I feel like we’re starting to change that, we’re starting to get over that hump and not being able to be there is going to be very frustrating."

“But I’m going to push everything I can to try to get back to these games and hopefully it’s sooner rather than later and my mindset is going to be just to attack it 100 percent every day,” he said.

Chubb is the fifth starter the Broncos have lost to injury this season. Inside linebacker Josey Jewell tore a pectoral muscle playing special teams Sunday, a week after Denver lost cornerback Ronald Darby (hamstring), right guard Graham Glasgow (irregular heartbeat) and wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (ankle).

&nbsp; COLORADO SPRINGS -- September 20, 2021 --&nbsp;Chadron State College football placekicker&nbsp;Gunnar Jones&nbsp;has received two consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week distinctions, after the weekly honor was announced Monday at RMACSports.org. In week two, he connected from 45 yards for the longest field goal by a CSC player since 2014, finishing with six points scored. Last Saturday, he scored seven points on a field goal and a 4-for-4 effort on extra point tries. He added three punts for a 40-yard average and six kickoffs with two touchbacks. Jones' punting average of 45.7 yards per attempt, pending a statistical correction from week one, ranks as the top average in the RMAC and the third best in NCAA Division II. He is only one of three players in the RMAC to perform both placekicking and punting duties, and one of five to have made all of his point-after tries this season. The most recent Eagles player to earn the league's top weekly honor for two consecutive games was Danny Woodhead in the first two weeks of the 2007 season. Punter Zack Kozlik last received the recognition twice in a single season, earning the special teams nod in weeks one and three of 2017.&nbsp;&nbsp;

#5 Louisville sweeps #6 Nebraska in volleyball showdown

&nbsp; Nebraska took No. 3 Oklahoma down to the wire on the road at Memorial Stadium in Norman, but came up just short in a 23-16 setback to the Sooners in the Battle of the Big Reds on Saturday. The Huskers (2-2) held a high-powered Oklahoma offense in check for most of the day, limiting the Sooners to 408 yards of total offense, including 214 through the air. Nebraska nearly matched OU yard-for-yard, managing 384 total yards, including 289 through the air. The two teams also matched each other yard-for-yard in penalties (70) and were within a minute of each other in time of possession, as the Sooners held a slight edge at 30:50 for the game. Oklahoma (3-0), which entered the game as a greater than three touchdown favorite, survived by converting three drives into touchdowns and adding a defensive two-point conversion after a blocked Nebraska extra-point attempt late in the third quarter. The Huskers were able to answer with two touchdowns and a career-long 51-yard field goal from&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=42800">Connor Culp</a>. Trailing by a touchdown, Nebraska got the ball back with just under a minute left in the game but was unable to move down the field without any timeouts. Nebraska had other chances in the game, missing on a pair of field goals (35, 51) and the blocked extra point, while the Sooners also missed a long field goal (54). Spencer Rattler marched the Sooners 75 yards on 14 plays in just under seven minutes to open the game. Rattler capped the drive on a one-yard plunge to five OU a 7-0 lead. Nebraska answered with Culp's 51-yard field goal after a 14-play drive of its own to make it 7-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Huskers overcame five penalties to put points on the board on their opening drive and were flagged for just three penalties the rest of the game. The two teams held each other off the board in the second quarter, exchanging missed 50-plus yard field goal attempts in the quarter. Nebraska started the second half with the ball and marched into field goal range before the drive stalled in the red zone. The Huskers attempted a 35-yard field goal that missed wide left. The Sooners then put together another long drive, covering 80 yards in 10 plays on a march that took 5:29 and was capped by Rattler's one-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Hall to take a 14-3 lead with 3:50 left in the third quarter. Rattler finished 24-of-34 for 214 yards and one touchdown through the air. But Nebraska answered with eight seconds left in the third on&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=42846">Adrian Martinez's</a>&nbsp;four-yard touchdown run to cap a nine-play, 75-yard drive to cut the margin to 14-9. But NU's extra-point try was blocked and picked up on the run by Patrick Fields who returned it 100 yards to put the Sooners up 16-9 heading to the fourth quarter. Oklahoma firmed its grip on victory on a 12-play, 65-yard drive that resulted in a two-yard touchdown run by Kennedy Brooks that put the Sooners up 23-9 with 10:24 left. Brooks finished with 75 rushing yards, while Eric Gray led the OU with 84 yards on 15 carries. Martinez and the Huskers quickly marched into striking distance before their drive stalled. The Cowgirls' success can be&nbsp;attributed&nbsp;to setter Soliel Gandara,&nbsp;who saw all setting duties for Highlands Saturday night.&nbsp;She&nbsp;had 36 assists against the Eagles, which helped her team&nbsp;to land 44 kills&nbsp;and a hit percentage of .270 on the evening.&nbsp;&nbsp;

First-year&nbsp;middle hitter&nbsp;Aiyana Fujiyama&nbsp;offensively and defensively led the Eagles, amounting to 10 kills and seven blocks.&nbsp;Libero&nbsp;Rylee Greiman&nbsp;finished the night with 10 digs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Assist&nbsp;leaders were&nbsp;setters&nbsp;Devyn Volz&nbsp;with 12 and&nbsp;Audrey Bennett&nbsp;with 11.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; COLORADO SPRINGS -- September 13, 2021 --&nbsp;Chadron State College senior kicker and punter&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7947">Gunnar Jones</a>, of Florence, Alabama, was announced on Monday as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, for his performance on Saturday in Chadron. Against 22nd-ranked Angelo State, Jones connected from 45 yards for a field goal, which was a career high for him and the longest successful field goal try by a CSC player since 2014. He added a perfect 3-for-3 effort on point-after-touchdown tries, for six points in the game. On kickoff team, he averaged 63.4 yards on five attempts, with three going for touchbacks. He added a tackle on one of his kickoffs. Finally as a punter, he booted kicks of 71, 56, and 53 yards en route to a 51.2-yard average, nearly clipping the school single-game record of 51.4, held by Steve Nelson since 1973. Jones planted two of his punts inside the Angelo State 20-yard line. Jones is the first RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week since&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6738">Drake Holdren</a>&nbsp;last fall.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Broncos stun Giants in season opener 27-13

KEARNEY, Neb. -- September 11, 2021 --&nbsp;The Chadron State College volleyball team&nbsp;drops&nbsp;to 2-5&nbsp;after the final day of the&nbsp;Rosella&nbsp;Meier UNK Fall Classic on Saturday. The team lost&nbsp;in four sets to the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm, despite&nbsp;improved play across the board.&nbsp;

The Eagles performed best in the second set in which they won 25-23.&nbsp;&nbsp;They had 14 kills, four errors, and a hitting percentage of .313, which was their second-best hitting percentage of the season after&nbsp;recording a .414 percentage in set one of their&nbsp;match&nbsp;against Minnesota-Crookston last week.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"We came out with a little bit more fire than yesterday gut had trouble defensively," said&nbsp;CSC&nbsp;Head Volleyball Coach&nbsp;Jennifer Stadler.&nbsp;"We&nbsp;need to clean up some things on our side and stay&nbsp;consistent&nbsp;towards the end of the sets."&nbsp;

Leading in kills was&nbsp;Chadron native&nbsp;Allie Ferguson.&nbsp;The sophomore outside hitter&nbsp;tied with&nbsp;Olivia Moten-Schell&nbsp;with nine on the day.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Middle hitter&nbsp;Micaiah Vrbka&nbsp;and setter&nbsp;Audrey Bennett&nbsp;led both&nbsp;teams with five blocks apiece. Bennett also led the Eagles in assists with 16.&nbsp;&nbsp;

For their first Rocky Mountain Athletics Conference match, the&nbsp;Eagles will travel to Alamosa, Colo.&nbsp;next weekend on Friday, September 17 to face Adams&nbsp;State&nbsp;(4-5). The game will start at 7 P.M. MT.&nbsp;

Eagle volleyball drops final match in Kearney Classic

&nbsp; CHADRON, Neb. -- September 11, 2021 --&nbsp;Chadron State dominated most of the first half against 22nd-ranked Angelo State on Saturday afternoon at Elliott Field, building a 24-0 lead before the Rams scored with 51 second remaining before halftime.&nbsp; But the top-25 visitors from Texas ruled during the second half and squeezed past the Eagles 28-24 in the non-conference clash played in 90-degree temperatures.&nbsp; "This is a top 25 team, and they showed it today," said CSC Head Football Coach&nbsp;Jay Long. "Our guys competed, we were in the game the whole way, and we had an opportunity to win at the end. We have to find a way to get in the end zone at the end, because we're right there. Today we played a lot better than we played last week. This is more like the team that we are." The Eagles were led by their special teams, which blocked four Angelo State field goal tries and two punts.&nbsp; However, the Rams rolled up 469 total net yards, including 249 in the second half, and limited the Eagles to just 230 total yards and only 38 in the second half. Angelo State, ranked No. 22 in NCAA II entering the game, opened by driving 70 yards before being forced to attempt a 22-yard field goal that was blocked by CSC freshman Josh Zink and returned 27 yards by&nbsp;Jeremiah Gutierrez.&nbsp; The Eagles promptly drove 68 yards with tailback&nbsp;Elijah Myles&nbsp;going the final three. Chadron State moved on top 14-0 on their next possession with quarterback&nbsp;Dalton Holst&nbsp;running to 19 yards before hitting&nbsp;Chad Mikelson&nbsp;with an eight-yard touchdown pass. With six minutes left in the second quarter, Holst connected with a wide open&nbsp;Montel Gladney&nbsp;on a 72-yard scoring pass.&nbsp; Moments later the hosts recovered a fumble by Angelo State quarterback Zach Bronkhorst and converted it into a 45-yard field goal by Gunner Jones to go ahead 24-0. As the first half was ending, Bronkhorst completed a 33-yard pass to CJ Odom, then ran for 12 yards before scoring on a one-yard sneak for Angelo State's first points. The Eagles blocked an Angelo State punt and a field goal try early in the second half, but couldn't convert them into points. The Rams soon got a break when Holst, while lunging for a first down, lost that ball at midfield.&nbsp; The Texans' Leddy French recovered it and raced 38 yards to the Eagles' 13. Bronkhorst scored three plays later on a six-yard run. With just a minute left in the third quarter, Bronkhorst connected with wiry receiver Kellen Pachot (5-11, 155 pounds) on a 53-yard pass play for a touchdown. Then, three minutes into the fourth quarter the pair hooked up again on a 43-yard scoring toss that put the Rams ahead 28-24. DENVER (AP) — Logan Webb pitched effectively for seven innings, Mike Yastrzemski homered and Steve Duggar had two triples among his three hits as the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 12-3. Brandon Crawford added three hits and an RBI. All of Duggar’s hits went for extra bases and he drove in three runs. Yastrzemski added a run-scoring single in the ninth, finishing with three RBIs, as San Francisco won for the fifth time in six games. C.J. Cron had an RBI double for Colorado. Pinch-hitter Joshua Fuentes and Rio Ruiz added RBI singles.
