Center Jacob Jefferson sank 10 of 14 field goal attempts while scoring 24 points and newcomer Deundra Roberson was seven of nine from the field while tallying 18 as the Chadron State College men’s basketball team defeated the Western Colorado Mountaineers 85-73 on Friday night in the Chicoine Center at CSC.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Eagles shot 54.7 percent from the field that included 12 of 24 from 3-point territory.&nbsp; They led 48-36 at halftime and were ahead by as many as 20 points in the second half, when both teams wound up scoring 37 points. Both teams also grabbed 31 rebounds.

CSC’s Brady Delimont returned from missing two games because of a concussion to add 14 points. Point guard Marcus Jefferson scored just six points, all on free throws, but handed out eight assists and collected nine rebounds.

The Eagles and Yellow Jackets will have to wait one extra week to face off in their bitter rivalry, which is now set for Tuesday, January 26 at the Chicoine Center.&nbsp; Tip times remain the same, 5:30 and 7:30.

Both the women's and men's games on Tuesday, January 19 in Chadron were postponed ahead of time due to covid-19 protocol with both schools.

We will have live radio of the rescheduled games on Double Q Country, 97.5 FM and streamed at panhandlepost.com.&nbsp;

For now, CSC will not take the floor again until next Thursday, January 21 when a trip to South Dakota Mines is scheduled.

Chadron State reschedules games against Black Hills State

We could be in for quite a game tonight at the Chicoine Center when two teams battling for a top-eight spot in the RMAC playoffs meet.&nbsp; Chadron State faces the Western Colorado Mountaineers in men's basketball at 6:00, with no fans allowed to attend.&nbsp; 

Radio coverage will be on 97.5 and 105.9 FM as well as the station's live streams at panhandlepost.com.

The Eagles are currently holding the final RMAC playoff position (#8) while WCU is ninth.&nbsp; Each side has tallied two victories in conference play.&nbsp; In order for the RMAC to crown a champion at least five teams must play 11 RMAC games, a target that appears reachable at this point in the season.

The three-point line will play a huge factor tonight.&nbsp; The two schools combine to average 54 attempts from behind the arc per game, and WCU is coming off a scorching 102-87 win against Colorado Christian in which the Mountaineers buried 18 triples at a 45-percent clip.&nbsp; WCU has nailed 33 threes over its last two contests.&nbsp; Chadron State hasn't hit any fewer than eight threes in a game this season.

Looking ahead, CSC isn't scheduled for action again until next Thursday, January 21.&nbsp; Fort Lewis postponed tomorrow's match-up, and Black Hills postponed Tuesday's game all due to the pandemic.

The CSC women will not play its next three scheduled games, this weekend against WCU and FLC, and next Tuesday against BHSU due to covid-19 protocol.

All games can be rescheduled if schools can agree to make-up dates.

The CSC women will be forced to postpone the three games scheduled for Friday with Western Colorado, Saturday with Fort Lewis and Tuesday with Black Hills State. The men's team will not face Fort Lewis as scheduled on Saturday, but is still on for its Friday evening tilt against Western Colorado and its Tuesday contest with BHSU. In addition, the men's game on Friday will be moved up to 6 p.m. to accomodate the visiting team. No dates have been set for the makeup of any of the postponements, at this time.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rockies sign pitcher to new contract

(AP) The Nebraska men’s basketball game at Maryland scheduled for Saturday has been postponed because of a COVID-19 outbreak in the Cornhuskers’ program.

Nebraska announced a pause in its program on Monday because of at least one positive coronavirus test. The Huskers’ game against No. 14 Illinois on Wednesday also has been postponed.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Running back Markese Stepp has transferred from Southern California to Nebraska. His arrival strengthens an area of need for the Cornhuskers following the departure of Dedrick Mills and Wan’Dale Robinson. 

The 6-foot, 235-pounder appeared in five of the Trojans’ six games. He was the team’s third-leading rusher with 45 carries for 165 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 28 yards. He was a four-star prospect coming out of high school in Indianapolis in 2018.

Mills also announced his decision to go pro on Twitter.

Husker men's hoops pauses team activites due to COVID-19

Chadron State will not face Fort Lewis Saturday night for men's hoops, and likely not at all this season.

The Skyhawk men's basketball team will not make the trip to Chadron because the team is still in COVID-19 quarantine per CDC guidelines.&nbsp; That's according to the FLC Athletics Department, which confirmed the game would not be played this weekend Monday.

The Skyhawks last two games were also postponed.

CSC Athletics also confirmed this weekend's postponement.

Chadron State was supposed to open its RMAC season in Durango December 4 against the Skyhawks but the game was postponed due to COVID-19.&nbsp; For now, it looks like the match-up won't be played at all this season unless the schools can find a new date among an already loaded calendar.

The CSC - Fort Lewis women's game is still on as scheduled for 5:30 Saturday night and will be broadcast on Double Q Country, 97.5 FM and streamed on Panhandle Post.

The issues were expected to be the main storylines of this week’s NCAA annual convention. They were put on hold after the association received a warning from the Department of Justice about potential antitrust violations. Under the NCAA’s current proposal, schools could block athletes from entering sponsorship agreements that conflict with their schools’ deals. Athletes also would not be permitted to endorse products or companies such as alcohol or gambling that conflict with NCAA values.

Breaking News: Husker star WR Wan'Dale Robinson has announced he is transferring out of the Nebraska football program.

Update:&nbsp; LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson has announced his plan to transfer. Robinson revealed his decision on Twitter on Monday, saying he wants to move closer to his family in Kentucky. Robinson split time between running back and receiver as a sophomore and was one of Nebraska's top playmakers. He became the primary running back after Dedrick Mills went out because of an injury. Robinson averaged 5.2 yards per carry while rushing for 240 yards and a touchdown. He led the team with 51 catches for 461 yards and a touchdown.

SALT LAKE CITY – January 9, 2021 --&nbsp;The Chadron State College men's basketball team grabbed an early lead on Saturday evening, but host Westminster College secured the game late in the first half and early in the second, and rode out its advantage down the stretch, to finish with the win in Salt Lake City to run its season record to 4-2, all in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Eagles fell to 2-3, all within the RMAC schedule. CSC jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the first seven and a half minutes.&nbsp;Teddy Parham, Jr., hit a pair of three-pointers and&nbsp;Jacob Jefferson&nbsp;made a pair of field goals, while&nbsp;Psalm Maduakor&nbsp;swiped a steal and converted for a pair of free throws to stretch the Eagles' lead to its largest margin of the night, with 12:20 remaining in the first half. The Eagles and Griffins battled back and forth at that point, with Westminster going on a 9-2 run to end the first half to make it 35-28 WC at the midpoint break. In the second half, Westminster scored the first eight points to go ahead 43-28 after junior guard Joey Andrews hit a two-point field goal and two free throws to start the period. The Griffins got ahead by as many as 19, with 13:53 left to play at 52-33 Griffins, but the Eagles continued to chip away at the Westminster lead over the remainder of the game. The match would have been the opener for the Eagles' season. No date is set for the resumption of the dual meet, but the two program will work toward rescheduling at a later time. Under this season's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference requirements, an&nbsp;RMAC Champion will be declared only if at least five teams complete 50 percent of their original round-robin schedule. CSC's next opportunity to compete would be its dual at Nebraska-Kearney on January 16, when the Lopers plan to host spectators at a venue with limited capacity.&nbsp;&nbsp;
