United Way of Western Nebraska partnered with Eagle Radio and the Bob Schmidt Foundation about a month ago to help raise money for local food banks and families across the panhandle.

Donations and funds will primarily be used for basic food needs.  Donations came from the public, organizations, businesses, and non-profit organizations.

Once Eagle Radio stations KCOW, Double Q Country, and B94.7 raised $5,000 the Bob Schmidt Foundation matched that donation with another $5,000.

The total raised for United Way was $10,095.35.

"Today we get those matching grant funds...so super excited to get to do that because that means that's more money into those hands of agencies and groups that help with food insecurity in our communities," said Karen Benzel, United Way of Western Nebraska Director. "One thing that's really essential to our communities is our businesses and organizations. We had a fantastic opportunity with Gregory's Insurance. They got a little bang for their buck because Eagle Communications traded them ads. Gregory's Insurance said we'll donate to United Way, we'll help our community. Also the Alliance Public Schools Foundation...they've been out selling cotton candy and various things on 'Cruise the Butte'...they said we're going to give those proceeds to this cause."

Benzel extended her thanks to all who donated.

"Whether it was a small amount, large amount, any size in between, we are grateful for every single dollar," Benzel added. "I can't reiternate enough how much every single dollar makes a difference. That $5 makes a huge impact when you combine it with everyone else."
