After Tammy Mowry retired in August as long-time Box Butte County Sheriff, J.D Sutphen was appointed Interim Sheriff, but Sutphen was recently named Sheriff on a permanent basis at a recent Box Butte County Commissioners meeting.
Sutphen has spent the last 23 years in Box Butte County as was a longtime Deputy under Mowry, and says that he learned a lot from the longtime Sheriff and wants to continue to do the great work to serve Box Butte County.
"I want people to feel like they can approach us at any point and any time," Sutphen said. It's been working in Box Butte County for quite a few years now with that mentality, and I just want to keep that mentality going."
Sutphen has been the Chief Deputy for the last 12 years under Mowry and he says he hopes the Sherriff's Department continues to thrive under his leadership.
