Margaret Clark Olson, 83, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the Hemingford Community Care Care Center. She was born on February 2, 1941.

She has departed this world’s trials and will awaken in Glory as her steadfast faith assured she would.

She gladly leaves behind distant decades of cruelty and abuse as undeserved payment for her fidelity, hard work, and commitment. She also escapes years of abandonment and vindictiveness she endured as compensation for her nurturing, encouragement, and loving instruction.

Happily, for the last twenty-five years, she has been rewarded for her steadfastness with a devoted marriage, her adoring husband, Bob, and the caring stepchildren, Scott and Lori, she so richly deserved. The entire Olson clan also welcomed her with open arms as one of their own.

Margaret was preceded in death by her loving parents, Arthur and Adeline Clark, her step-granddaughter, Allison Reece, and her life-long best friend, Janice Olson West.

Margaret’s husband, Bob, wishes to express his gratitude to home caregivers Carol and Rose for their skillful assistance and also to the professional staff of the Hemingford Community Care Center, who provided Margaret with a welcoming home away from home.

No funeral services are planned. Cremation will follow, and Margaret’s ashes will be spread near her childhood home in South Dakota, which remained close to her heart for her entire life.

Lois Estelle Hughes of Hay Springs, 94, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Chadron Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 7 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Hay Springs with Father Daniel Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. A rosary will be held on Monday, May 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Lois was born May 14, 1929 in Sterling, Colorado to Burrell Jefferson Monroe and Dessie Esther (Litch )Monroe. She grew up on a wheat farm near Fleming, Colorado. As a young girl, she was told by a friend and neighbor that she would be prettier if she smiled. Mom said she has been smiling ever since. Everyone who knew Lois can attest to that.

Lois graduated from Sterling High School in Sterling, Colorado in 1947. After high school she attended Barnes Business School in Denver. After graduating her parents gave her a maroon Mercury convertible, which she loved. After working in Sterling, Colorado at Rominger Jewelers, she accepted a promotion and moved to Alliance to manage Thiele’s Crystal shop.

She met Thomas Hughes on a blind date in Alliance, Nebraska. Her first thought was “Wow, I don’t know if I can handle this guy or not.” Apparently she could, so on September 5, 1955 she was united in marriage to Thomas J. Hughes in Alliance. After their marriage, Lois chose to give up her beloved Mercury. She made a good trade. Tom and Lois lived on the ranch SW of Hay Springs where they raised seven children. Lois was quoted as saying “There were times I thought the kids were going to drive meto the funny farm, but they grew up and were a joy to me.” Each of them was her favorite.Lois loved playing cards, making donuts at the Senior Center in Hay Springs, spending time with family, traveling and she loved going to Deadwood. She was so very loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Gregg (Donna) Hughes of Hastings; Kirk (Linda) Hughes of Glenrock, WY; Lisa Hughes of Casper, WY; Burrell (Andrea) Hughes of Hay Springs; Bart Hughes of Dickinson, ND; Heather (Kalvin) Kresl of Hemingford, NE; and Debbie (Mike) Rooney of Arvada, CO. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage, her parents, her sister, Mary Shell, and her brother, Burrell Jack Monroe.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Columbkille Catholic Church or the Hay Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

Rev. James Edward Rowe (Jim), 93 of Alliance passed away on April 29th, 2024.

&nbsp;He was born January 1, 1931, in Watertown, SD.&nbsp; He was one of five children of George and Edith Rowe.&nbsp; After a few college years, Jim enlisted in the United States Airforce from 1951-1955.&nbsp; He fought in the Korean War and was a staff sergeant responsible for twenty men.&nbsp; He flew many missions as a radar man and machine gun mechanic.&nbsp; It was there that he dedicated himself to the Lord.

In 1959 he married Joyce-Lea Curnett in Kansas City, MO, and with a Master’s degree in theology, he graduated from Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Baptist Convention.&nbsp; Jim served as senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Scottsbluff, NE for twenty-six years.&nbsp; Following a short retirement, he also served as pastor of First Baptist Church of Alliance for seventeen years.&nbsp; Farming and ranching were always passions of Jim since childhood.&nbsp; The Rowe family owned a farm and raised cattle for over forty years.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joyce-Lea who passed in 2007.&nbsp; He is survived by his sister Joyce, children: Jeff (Krystin), John (Tania), and Jenn (Blake); his grandchildren: Mallory, Marcus, Brittany, Trey, Kaitlyn, Carly, Tanner, Nadia, and Isabella; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Howard Robert Trussel passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the Hemingford Care Center. He was 92.

He was born February 11, 1932 at Hemingford, NE to Lawrence and Florence (Cadwalader) Trussel.&nbsp; Howard liked to tell the story of his dad hitching up the team of horses to the wagon in a blizzard to get them to town in time.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Howard attended several country schools and then boarded in town to attend high school.&nbsp; It was there he met the love of his life, Deloris Gowin.&nbsp; They were married on January 1, 1954 at the Hemingford Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Howard served in the U.S. Army from June 3, 1952 to his honorable discharge on June 3, 1955.&nbsp; His service included a tour in Korea during the Korean War. Howard worked for 27 years for Fisher Farms at Hemingford.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Deloris, his son, Robert and a granddaughter.&nbsp; He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sharon Gowin of Mitchell and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia (Alvin) Hack, Lela (Jess) Henry, Harvey (Helen) Trussel, his father and mother-in-law, Floyd and Wilda Gowin, his sisters-in-law, Joanne Gowin and Bonnie Tragesser and his brother-in-law, Floyd Gowin.

Graveside services will be Friday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hemingford Cemetery. Pastor Suyeol Bae will officiate and military honors will be conducted.

Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Foundation Scholarship.&nbsp;

Dave was born May 9, 1953, in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Joseph C. and E. Jewell (Porter) Bradley. He grew up on a ranch in Elbert County, Colorado where he learned to ride horses, work cattle, and help run the family ranch. &nbsp;It was there he learned how to be a true cowboy, which is where his true passion in life was. &nbsp;He graduated from Kiowa High School and soon after moved to Nebraska to start a ranch and family of his own. &nbsp;

Dave wasn’t shy about marriage. &nbsp;He was married, yes, a few times. &nbsp;He gained three sons out of his marriages, who he was so proud of, and he wasn’t reluctant to tell people that. &nbsp;

Dave was a cattle rancher most of his life and put-up hay as well. &nbsp;Recently, he had been enjoying the road while driving a truck for local trucking companies. He was hard working his whole life and he wasn’t afraid to work until the job was done.

Dave was funny and made everyone laugh. &nbsp;He always had a joke to tell. His laugh was contagious and would make people laugh just by hearing it. &nbsp;He enjoyed the rodeo, from bull riding to team roping, he loved it all. &nbsp;He was a good roper back in the day and enjoyed training cutting horses and riding and competing in cuttings. &nbsp;He appreciated old western artwork, antiques, and Native American artifacts. &nbsp;Dave became a talented musician over the years, playing guitar and even writing his own songs. &nbsp;Country music and classic rock music were his favorites. &nbsp;He loved hunting, and playing cards, mainly pitch. &nbsp;Dave also always had a taste for muscle cars and sports cars. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Survivors include his sons, Kyle (Heidi), Kobie, and Kaden Bradley; and grandkids, Cadence and Braydon Bradley, and Hunter, Brecken, SJ and Kendall Bradley.

Aylin was very active and enjoyed swimming, skating, dancing, and gymnastics. She also liked going to the park, singing, and spending time with her friends. She was a member of Girls on the Run.

Her personality could be described as silly, sassy, and funny! Aylin was known to be adventurous, brave, and competitive. She had a big heart and carried empathy and compassion for others. These qualities made her a cherished friend of many. She could also be relied on for her honesty and fierce protectiveness. She will be forever loved and deeply missed.

Survivors include her loving parents, Agustin and Lucero; three sisters, Arisay, Priscila, and Damarys; niece, Ailana; along with other extended family members and numerous friends.

Bert Allen Saxton, age 66, passed away on April 26, 2024. Bert was born August 21, 1957 in Crawford NE to Milo and Rosemary Saxton.

Bert’s education began in a one room schoolhouse on Cottonwood Creek in Sioux County NE. He then attended high school in Crawford NE where he was a noted participant in the wrestling program. He went on to graduate in 1975.

Bert enlisted in the US Marine Corps in December, 1979. After completing basic training at the USMC Recruit Depot in San Diego he continued service at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point N.C. During his service he received a Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, a Good Conduct Badge, and a Meritorious Mast certificate. Bert was ranked Lance Corporal and completed US Marine Corp active service in 1983.

In 1989 Bert married Denise Jacob and from that union their daughter Chelsee Mae, was born. Seeing his daughter grow into a beautiful young woman was one of Bert's happiest life experiences.

Having grown up in a farm and ranch environment, Bert was known as a committed and hard-working man at any work he put his hands to. He recently retired from the Perrett Construction Co., of Valentine, NE. While fulfilling many duties during his work with Perrett, Bert finalized his 20+ years as a machine operator for the company.

Bert enjoyed fishing, reading, having a good laugh, card games, travel and connecting with family and friends through social media. He appreciated a good meal and time with his loved ones.

Bert is preceded in death by his parents Milo and Rosemary Saxton and his brother Clifford. He is survived by his daughter Chelsee Mae Fresorger (James), his brother Mike Saxton, his sisters Nancy Kile (Scott), Colleen Brennan (Blair) and Polly Chapman. Uncles Patrick Clements and Sam Birdsall, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bert is loved and will be missed by all those who knew him.

Bert will be interned at the Crawford Cemetery; Chamberlain Chapel is making arrangements. A private family service is planned for a future date.

Diana Mae Neeley, 60, of Gordon, NE passed away Tuesday, April 16,2024.

Diana Mae Neeley was born August 11, 1963 to Roscoe (Al) and Goldie Fulton in&nbsp;Grand Island, NE. She attended Central City schools and graduated in 1981. She furthered her education at Chadron State College. In later years, she settled in&nbsp;Gordon, NE where she worked as the Assistant Manager of the Gordon Thrift Store.

She attended the Wellspring Chapel in Gordon, NE.  Those left to cherish her memory&nbsp;are her mother, Goldie Fulton of Central City, brother LynnDel (Nancy) Fulton of&nbsp;Doniphan, brother Lyle (Becky) Fulton of Central City, numerous nieces and nephews,&nbsp;and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Roscoe (Al)&nbsp;Fulton and brother Bryan Fulton.

Timothy Richard Beals of Alliance passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Box Butte General Hospital.&nbsp; He was 64 years of age.

He was born on June 8, 1959 in Broken Bow, NE to Richard D. and Frances L. (Pirnie) Beals.&nbsp; He graduated from Anselmo-Merna High School in 1977. Following graduation he attended Hastings Central College for two years.&nbsp; While there he received his mechanical training which led to his career with the railroad In 1979 Tim moved to Alliance when he hired on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a machinist.&nbsp; A decline in his health forced him into retirement in 2019 after nearly 40 years of service to BNSF.&nbsp; While in Alliance he was a member of the United Methodist Church.&nbsp; He enjoyed being a member of the community choir and was also a member of the Eagles Club. He was an enthusiastic goose hunter and enjoyed being at the Alliance Gun Range as well as be an avid gardener.

He married Retta F. McAelvy on September 27, 1981

He is survived by his sons, Abraham David (Kari) Neth of Lincoln, Zachary Beals (Jessica Seltvedt) of Rapid City, SD and Jacob (Melanie) Beals of Alliance, his grandchildren, Alex, Claire, Josh, Kate, Graci and James.&nbsp; He is also survived by his siblings, Bill Beals of Broken Bow, Mary (Mike) Myers of North Platte and Dave (Shari) Beals of Merna and nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alliance.&nbsp; Pastor Greg Reed will be officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. C.D.T., at the Merna Cemetery at Merna, Nebraska.&nbsp; Visitation will be Monday from 1-6 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Timothy Richard Beals (1959 - 2024)

David Donker was born Sept 21, 1958 in Gregory, SD, the 3rd of 4 children, to Albert “Rusty” and Grace (Luurs). He was in a hurry to enter this world, arriving before they got to the hospital. He left this world on April 16, 2024, in the comfort of his own home and with his family at his side, after a brief but very intense battle with esophageal/gastric cancer.

His family moved from Gregory, SD, area to Hot Springs, SD, and then to Chadron, Nebraska. All of his schooling took place in Chadron, graduating from Chadron High School in 1978. He continued his education, attending WNCC in Sidney, with certificate in Heavy Equipment and Diesel repair, in 1979.

Between 1979 and 1983 he worked various jobs, including with his dad at the Culligan store in Chadron. December 1983 he hired on at what is now known as Parker Hannifin. With the exception of time during a brief layoff, he worked there for 40 years, most of that in Maintenance. During the time of the layoff he sought employment at Nebraska Beef Packers in Gordon, Nebr., where he met Karen Reinmuth. They were reintroduced by a mutual friend a few months later, starting a relationship in Sept 1984 that would continue until his passing.

They were married June 3, 1988, in Alliance, Ne. To this union four children were born. Miranda Rose, Zachariah James, Arielle Marie and Emily Kate. He was also grandpa to 5. He took great pride in his family, bragging on them every chance he had.

Dave was more commonly known as “Dutch” to his family and friends.

He was a patch holding member of ROAD M/C since 1980, and a member of the Sandhills Chapter. Those in the club were also his family. He was very active in all aspects of the club and enjoyed time riding with his brothers above all.

He was a previous member of ABATE of Ne, Dist. 13.

He had a passion for hunting and firearms, and developed an additional passion for black powder shooting and Rendezvous, which led to being member of Bordeaux Creek Muzzleloaders, for years, as well as Camp Clark Raiders. He enjoyed many deer camps with his brother, Jerry “Red”, his wife and multiple other friends, and was an active participant in many local and Regional Rendezvous camps with his family.

As a youth, he was a member of Boy Scout troop in Chadron, earning rank of Life Scout. Later, with his own son, he was an active parent in scouting and then an Assistant Scout Master of troop 344, participating in many local campouts, winter camps, tree plants, and summer camps, and mentoring youth as they earned their Eagle.

Many trips were taken on the motorcycle with his wife and with his brothers, as well as solo. He attended Sturgis Motorcycle Rally annually, not missing a year, for over 40 years. He even spent some time working at Eagles Landing during the rally. The stories he could tell and the people he met doing this! But his most memorable trip was the 2nd trip to “Run to the Wall” rally in Washington DC when his son accompanied him.

He received treatment for his cancer thru KU University while staying with his oldest daughter, Miranda, in Warrensburg, MO., returning home to Alliance just days before leaving this earthly world.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, daughters: Miranda Williams of Warrensburg, Mo, Arielle Donker of Rapid City, SD., Emily (Robert “TJ”) Lynn of Pagosa Springs, Co.; son: Zachariah (Dessaray) Donker of Alliance, Ne.; grandchildren: Isabell, Ryker and Faye Donker of Alliance Ne., Briley Williams of Warrensburg, MO., Colvynn Brown of Rapid City, SD. Brother: Steve (Dani) Donker of Cheyenne, Wyo., sister-in-law Teala Donker of Chadron, Ne., sister, Nancy (Gary) Eitler of Gordon, Ne., numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and cousins, as well as countless friends and his brothers of ROAD M/C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rusty and Grace; his oldest brother, Jerry; his father-in-law, Dale Reinmuth; and all grandparents.

Life is a journey, not a destination. His journey gave his life meaning and created numerous experiences and memories that included his family, his brothers and his friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life the 26th of May and his last ride on the 27th of May. Cremation has occurred. Locations and details are being made and will be available when completed.

Memorials may be made to the family at 1003 Big Horn Ave, Alliance, Ne. A tree will be planted in his memory; any additional funds will be donated to cancer research at Kansas State University.&nbsp;

Paul Eugene Townsend, 73, of Bayard, Nebraska, went to Heaven Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Bayard with Rev. Dr. Tyson Lambertson of The Rock Church officiating. Paul was born March 15, 1951, in Scottsbluff to Frank and Fern (Kellander) Townsend. He lived in and graduated from Bayard. Paul served in the United States Army following high school and then attended Lukens tool and die trade school. He became a precision master machinist and used his talent his whole life. He made everyone gifts from fixing things out of nothing. His favorite metal to craft with was brass.

Paul met Earline Lucele Blackstone at a very young age. They loved each other forever whether they were together or apart. Paul reunited with Earline, the love of his life, and they remained together for twenty-three years until he passed away peacefully in her arms.

Breakfast time was special every day. He enjoyed cooking and he and Earline sat and ate while reading his favorite book, the Bible. He loved Jesus, reading, and birdwatching. He liked to watch for eagles while he and Earline would go for drives or hunt for rocks. Paul took pride in his garden and yard and was also a great singer.&nbsp;

Memories were made when he took his girls fishing while they were young. Spending time with his family became even more important to him as he grew older. He cherished time with his grandkids, and later great grandkids and great nieces and great nephews, and his bearded dragon. Being with and taking care of his wife was what made him the happiest. He was an amazing husband, father, grandpa, great papa, and great uncle. Paul will be missed and forever loved by his family.

Survivors include his wife, Earline Townsend; daughter, Erica (Jordan) Woodbury and grandchildren, Gracelyn, Ledson, and Anna; daughter, Dandi (Chad) Wyldes and grandchildren, Jaxon and Ava; son, Ricky (Amy) Snyder and grandchildren, Luke, Allie, and Ryan; daughter, Renea (Brad) Mohrman and grandchildren, Brittany and Bethany, and great-grandchildren, Sapphira and Severide; a nephew and nieces; a great nephew and great nieces; sister, Kathy Stout; and other extended family members and friends.

He lived in and graduated from Bayard. Paul served in the United States Army following high school and then attended Lukens tool and die trade school. He became a precision master machinist and used his talent his whole life. He made everyone gifts from fixing things out of nothing. His favorite metal to craft with was brass.Paul met Earline Lucele Blackstone at a very young age. They loved each other forever whether they were together or apart. Paul reunited with Earline, the love of his life, and they remained together for twenty-three years until he passed away peacefully in her arms.Breakfast time was special every day. He enjoyed cooking and he and Earline sat and ate while reading his favorite book, the Bible. He loved Jesus, reading, and birdwatching. He liked to watch for eagles while he and Earline would go for drives or hunt for rocks. Paul took pride in his garden and yard and was also a great singer.&nbsp;Memories were made when he took his girls fishing while they were young. Spending time with his family became even more important to him as he grew older. He cherished time with his grandkids, and later great grandkids and great nieces and great nephews, and his bearded dragon. Being with and taking care of his wife was what made him the happiest. He was an amazing husband, father, grandpa, great papa, and great uncle. She was a dedicated member of All Souls Catholic Church. Kathleen loved her family and enjoyed sending letters and cards to everyone. She enjoyed listening and singing to her record collection.

She was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister Virginia.

Karen Jean (Blaylock) Debus, 84, passed away April 10, 2024 peacefully at her home with family by her side.

Karen was born in Jefferson, Iowa to Karl &amp; Phyllis (Paulsen) Blaylock on September 4, 1939.

She was the 2nd of 4 children. She and her family lived in Grand Junction, Iowa until 1949 when&nbsp;they moved to Torrington, Wyoming for health reasons with her mother. Her mother passed&nbsp;away on Memorial day in 1952, Karen was 11 going on 12.

She met Larry Debus when she was 12 years old and they dated all through high school. She&nbsp;graduated in 1957 from Torrington High School. Then they were married June 1, 1957 in&nbsp;Torrington, WY. To this union 3 children were born, Brian, Brent and Suzanne. Larry and Karen&nbsp;lived in Torrington until 1967. While in Torrington Karen worked at Bell Telephone Company,&nbsp;Torrington Telegram and the hospital. 

They lived in Morrill, Nebraska then moved to Kansas for&nbsp;Larry's work purposes in the Fall of 1968. They moved back to Northwest Morrill in the spring of 1970. In the fall of 1973 they moved to Alliance and in late 1974, early 1975 Larry and Karen&nbsp;bought their own plumbing business creating Alliance Plumbing &amp; Heating which was located at&nbsp;504 Flack. She worked at their plumbing business until the early 80s. She also worked as a&nbsp;PBX operator at Box Butte General Hospital, at the Alliance Times Herald, Montgomery Ward,&nbsp;Sears and then did daycare in her home for many children including all of her grandchildren and&nbsp;some of the great grandchildren.

She enjoyed camping, gardening and decorating for Christmas. Her grandchildren were her&nbsp;pride and joy, she enjoyed decorating her entire house, upstairs and downstairs with all of their&nbsp;help every year.

She is survived by her children Brian Debus, Brent Debus, and Suzanne (Roger) Bedient all of Alliance, her daughter-in-love, Lora Young of Omaha, her grandchildren Paige Debus, Kyle (Katelynn), Justin and Jessica Debus of Gering, AJ (Ammie) Bedient of Alliance, Kaycee (Katie) Bedient Mosley of Lincoln, Cherity Bedient of Scottsbluff, Evin Bedient of Alliance, granddaughter-in-love, Amanda (Nick) Klever of St. Paul Minnesota, great grandchildren Leah Johnson, Anastasia Looser of Alliance, Lincoln and Jenna Debus of Gering, Steven Long (Bedient), Addisyn and Brecken Bedient of Alliance, baby girl Klever due in June 2024, her sister, Paula Foster of Alliance, sister-in-law, Nancy Huckfeldt of Sheridan Wyoming, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband Larry, her parents, her father-in-law and mother- in-law, her brother, Phillip Blaylock, sister and brother-in-law Karla and Harv Bartel, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Vern and Joyce Debus, brothers-in-law Fritz Huckfledt and Robert Foster, daughters-in-law Laurie (Stafford) Debus and Nancy (Beiber) Debus, granddaughter Rylee Mae Bedient as well as other family members.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 4, at11:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Pastor Russell Saito officiating. Cremation has already taken place and inurnment will follow in the Alliance Cemetery.

James M. Reynolds Funeral Update

Coleen Ruth Keep, 81, of Henry, Nebraska, went to be with her Lord on Resurrection Sunday, March 31, 2024, at The Residency in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Bethel Baptist Church in Torrington, Wyoming with Pastor Gary Hashley officiating. Ruth requested for guests to please wear Husker volleyball or general Husker attire to the ceremony. Cremation has taken place in accordance with her wishes. Ruth was born on March 26, 1943, in Scottsbluff to Coy and Betty (Harriger) Guest. She attended Sunflower High School, graduating with the class of 1961. Ruth then attended Chadron State College where she received a bachelor’s degree in 1965.

Ruth was united in marriage to Larry E. Keep in the Spring of 1968. Together they welcomed a daughter, Kolene.&nbsp;

Sunflower High School was where Ruth began what would become a 42-year career as an educator. She was employed at Sunflower from 1965 until 1968. She took a short break before settling in at Torrington High School where she remained from 1971 to 1999. She began teaching at Eastern Wyoming College in 1997 and eventually retired from there in 2010.

She was member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Morrill Forest Lawn Cemetery Board, several Bible studies, and was active in many church activities.

Hiking and fishing were some of her favorite activities in her youth. She enjoyed painting and creating watercolor art over the years as well. Throughout her entire life though, Ruth was a steadfast Husker fan. She never missed viewing a game and was notorious for “coaching” Husker Volleyball from her rocking chair. She also liked watching Husker football games, rodeos, and Westerns (anything John Wayne). Ruth loved to attend all the various activities her grandchildren, Logan and Sarah, were involved in while in school. Ruth was smitten when she became a great-grandmother to Bristol. They were blessed to live right next door to each other making it convenient to hang out often. Gardening and yardwork were not Ruth’s strongpoints, but she liked being active outdoors while trying her best at it. Teaching was her true passion, whether it was in a public-school classroom, at Bible studies or delivering life lessons.&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughter, Kolene (Kevin) Woodward; grandchildren, Logan (Tegan) Woodward and Sarah (Dylan) DuRee; great-grandchild, Bristol Woodward; sister, Jan (Greg) Fulk; niece, Lacee (Stephen &amp; Cillian) Smith; along with assorted cousins, extended family members, many friends, and beloved students.

Annabelle married Harold Nelson and became the proud mother of four daughters. She later met and married Jerry Hale and they resided in Hay Springs. Annabelle discovered a special relationship again when she met companion, Clarence Lacy. The couple remained together for thirteen years until Clarence’s passing. Years later she met and married Gailund Valentine. They made their home together in Merriman and Annabelle added two stepchildren to her life.

Annabelle waitressed throughout the years and was a friendly face at restaurants such as the Range Café in Bassett. She owned and operated the Sand Café in Merriman. She also worked at the Merriman Greenhouse for some time.

She was a member of the American Legion and the Merriman Booster Club. Annabelle enjoyed gardening, quilting, doing crossword puzzles, and playing marbles with her daughter, Loretta, every morning. She and Gailund also liked to go dancing when they could.&nbsp;

Ann will be remembered for her unwavering love, her gentle spirit, and her bountiful compassion. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her legacy of love will continue to inspire for generations to come.

He was born October 19th 1937, at Broken Bow, to Alfred Lewandowski Sr. and Ila (Ash) Lewandowski and received his early education in Sunflower Elementary School, graduating from Mitchell High School, at the age of 16 and attending Kearney State College and graduated with his teaching degree in 1957. He could often be heard saying “I started teaching 19 year old kids in high school when I was 20.”

He married the love of this life Dorothy Sayer on August 23rd, 1958 at Cambridge Nebraska. They lived in Ohiowa and Riverton for a few years before moving to Meriman, where they lived from 1962-1967. The couple moved to Morrill in 1967, where they made their home and raised their children. Alfred was a teacher at Morrill Public Schools until 1999, where he taught multiple generations of students and their parents. He was a member of the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church parish attending Mass at St. Ann’s in Morrill. Al was an active 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid gardener and many people in the area got their plants and produce from him, usually free of charge.

Survivors include: Daughter Mary (John) Schneider of Cheyenne WY; Sons Randall (Tina) Lewandowski of Dallas TX, Robert (Debra) Lewandowski of Maricopa AZ, Rodney of Gering NE and Ronald (Stacy) of DeWitt NE; Daughter in-law Wendy Lewandowski of Torrington WY; Brother Kenneth Lewandowski of Bulverde TX and Sisters Deloreis Wilhem of Osceola NE and Donna Kay (Jerry) Hort of Lyman NE along with 14 Grandchildren and 8 Great grandchildren.

He could often be heard saying “I started teaching 19 year old kids in high school when I was 20.”He married the love of this life Dorothy Sayer on August 23rd, 1958 at Cambridge Nebraska. They lived in Ohiowa and Riverton for a few years before moving to Meriman, where they lived from 1962-1967. The couple moved to Morrill in 1967, where they made their home and raised their children. Alfred was a teacher at Morrill Public Schools until 1999, where he taught multiple generations of students and their parents. He was a member of the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church parish attending Mass at St. Ann’s in Morrill. Al was an active 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid gardener and many people in the area got their plants and produce from him, usually free of charge.Survivors include: Daughter Mary (John) Schneider of Cheyenne WY; Sons Randall (Tina) Lewandowski of Dallas TX, Robert (Debra) Lewandowski of Maricopa AZ, Rodney of Gering NE and Ronald (Stacy) of DeWitt NE; Daughter in-law Wendy Lewandowski of Torrington WY; Brother Kenneth Lewandowski of Bulverde TX and Sisters Deloreis Wilhem of Osceola NE and Donna Kay (Jerry) Hort of Lyman NE along with 14 Grandchildren and 8 Great grandchildren.

Janet was born in Rushville, Nebraska on February 16, 1949 to Gertrude (Thayer) and William Shelley. She was raised in a large family in the Rushville and attended school there.

In 1969, Janet married her beloved husband, James R. Livingston. They made their home in Scottsbluff, NE and were married 45 years at the time of James death. If ever there was a match made in Heaven, they were it. We take great comfort knowing they are together again.

Janet is survived by her son William ‘Bill’ Livingston of Connecticut, Dana Norman (Drew) of Ohio, and Misty Livingston-West (Floyd) of Minnesota. Grandchildren; Zac, Brendon, Aleah, Jarrett Livingston all of Connecticut. Max and Garett Norman of Ohio, Chad (Brittania) West of Wisconsin, Joshua (Misty) West of Gering, Katie (Jason) Palomo of Scottsbluff, Teigen West of Scottsbluff, and Jacob West of Minnesota. Eleven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet loved her family immensely. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Janet loved to bowl, camp, fish, crochet, quilt, sew and do crafts. She treasured listening to Gaither Vocal Band. Janet was a passionate animal lover, cherishing Lollipop, Snickers, Gracie, and Tasha through her life. She never met a stranger, she was friendly, caring and loved to plan and organize events and family gatherings.

After her beloved husband passed away in 2014, it wasn’t long before her own health and mobility began to decline. Misty, Floyd and Jacob moved back to Scottsbluff in 2015 to care for her in her home until it was determined she needed skilled nursing care. In 2020 she went to live at Heritage Estates in Gering and our family is forever grateful for the loving care she received.

Janet was preceded in death by her Parents, her loving Husband Jim, Great granddaughters Zynleigh Marie, Alabama Grace, and Great Grandson Ryatt James, Siblings Janette Howell, Mary Abbott, Morris Gene Shelly, Bill Shelly, Mick Shelly, Donna Quevedo, Dixie Hauser and Margret Ann Shelly, Tutty, Butch, Kenny, Best friends, Sally Bruntz, Joyce and Jim Einfalt, Judd and Teresa Reed and many others.

Sharon Aline Mulford, 69, of Bridgeport, NE passed away on April 1, 2024 in Scottsbluff, NE. A memorial service will be held on Monday April 15, 2024 at 10:00AM at Grace Chapel in Scottsbluff, NE. Sharon was born October 24, 1954 in Atkinson, Nebraska to Charles Linden and Loretta Mae (Berry) Mulford. The family lived in the Cleveland Community north of Stuart, Nebraska on the family farm until her father joined the Nebraska State Patrol in 1959 and they moved to Osceola, NE and then to Kearney, NE in 1965. In 1969, she made her choice to follow Jesus and was faithful to that choice. She graduated from Kearney High School in 1973. She married Gary Guy Grubbs on August 6, 1973 and moved to Harrisburg, NE. Three children were born to that union; Curtis LeRoy on June 18, 1974, Timothy Guy on November 2, 1976 and Sarah Lynn on August 5, 1981.

Sharon drove a school bus for 13 years for Banner County School, drove a rural mail route for 2 1/2 years, volunteered as an EMT/firefighter for the Banner County Volunteer Fire Dept for 15 years and served 12 1/2 years as Deputy Clerk for Banner County Court, also serving in Kimball, Cheyenne and Scotts Bluff County as needed. She moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 2000, working in the civil/small claims division of Lancaster County Court. In 2005, Sharon moved to Cherry County, Nebraska and worked as a CNA caring for an elderly lady on a ranch 50 miles south of Valentine. In 2006, she moved into Valentine and worked for NorthStar Services, working with the mentally and physically handicapped. In 2007, she began work as a medication aide at Cherry Hills Estates, an assisted living facility. In 2019, she moved to Bridgeport, NE, purchasing a home there. In December of 2019, she began work as a CNA at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff until she retired on September 24, 2020. Retirement meant more time with family, fishing, playing the piano and organizing family history. She also enjoyed photography and traveling.

Sharon is survived by her children, Curtis (Vicki) Grubbs, Timothy (Carissa) Grubbs, and Sarah (Ryan) Mason, all of Banner County, NE; Grandchildren, TJ (Amelia) Grubbs, Christina (Jericho) Goss, Haddie Grubbs, Rylie, Makyla, Logan, Shawnie, Saryah, and Makenzy Mason, Payslee and Champ Smith; Great-grandchildren Grayson Grubbs and Mara Jo Goss; brothers Anthony (Karen) Mulford of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Berry (Jessie) Mulford of Edmond, Oklahoma; plus many nieces, nephews and friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Mulford and Loretta Mulford; and her grandson, Garrett Guy Grubbs in 2021.

Donald Allen Goos, 81, of Gering, went to meet his wife and grandson that he missed so dearly, on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. His Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Gering Zion Church with Pastor Tim Hebbert officiating. Don was born, March 23rd, 1943 in Scottsbluff to Ulrich “Oley” and Ruth Buckroth Goos and welcomed home by his two sisters Barb and Willa. Don started his education in Scottsbluff, then moved to Lovell, WY for his Jr. High years, moving back to Mitchell for High School, graduating with the class of ’61. Don excelled in sports and knew no stranger. After graduation he was recruited to play offense and defense for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team. After a bad car accident, he came back to Chadron to play baseball and this is where he met the love of his life, Lynne Sharp. They were married August 6th, 1967 and to this union they had two daughters, Wendy in 1974 and Stacy to follow in 1975.

Don loved being a dad but he loved being a grandpa even more. He was given this title when Ashley was born in 1999 followed by Austin in 2002. And then he got to be a great-grandpa to Quentin in 2022.

Don loved fishing and could tell you every good fishing hole on every stream around. He was so excited to take his kids and then his grandkids fishing and teach them how to bait a hook, and which fish were good and which to throw back. Don had numerous friends that loved to fish too, and he never gave up an opportunity to go fishing with his buddies. Don will be missed by all that met him, but we know that he is walking along that stream, fishing with his grandson.

Don is survived by his daughters Wendy Goos (Joe Rohrer), Stacy (Brady) Mitchell, granddaughter Ashley Mitchell and great- grandson Quentin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Lynne, his grandson Austin Mitchell, sister Barb, and sister and brother- in- law Willa and Gerry Morris, parents “Oley” and Ruth Goos and in laws Arthur “Bus” and Evelyn Sharp.

John E Gottier "Jack" passed away peacefully on April 6th, 2024 in Rapid City SD with his daughters by his side.  He was born on January 30th 1950 in Rushville, Nebraska to Marie and Ernest Gottier.  He was a lifelong resident of Rushville and a graduate of Rushville High School.  After graduating he entered the Navy and was stationed in Naples Italy from 1969-1972.  He was married to Eileen (Loosvelt) Gottier for many years.    He is survived by his daughters Natosha Gottier and Niki Lee, Granddaughters Soryn and Bryar Lee, sister Judy (Ron) Bruns, Kathy (Jack) Fisher, and brother Bill (Jean) Gottier as well as many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his sister Doris (Vernon) Tiensvold, parents Marie and Ernest Gottier.    Per Jack's request no funeral or memorial service will be held.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Florence M. Nickens passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Highland Park Care Center at the age of 74.

She was born on September 15, 1949 in Alliance to Ernest and Myrtle (Chandler) Nickens.

Florence graduated from Alliance High School in 1967.&nbsp; She then attended and graduated from Chadron State College.&nbsp; For many years she was a Social Worker for the State of Nebraska. Following her retirement from the State of Nebraska, she became a supervisor at Parker-Hannifin, a position she held for nearly 11 years.

Florence is survived by her life partner, Ted Dunbar, his children, Denis Dunbar of St. Louis, MO and Desi Alvarado of Alliance and their children, Brogan Dunbar, Marissa Dunbar, Thomas Adam and Keith Hedrick. She is also survived by her sister, Liz Nickens of Alliance, her brother, John and his wife Terri Nickens, sister-in-law, Brenda Nickens, her nephews, Troy Nickens and Chandler Nickens, her nieces, Autumn Nickens, Amber Nickens, Brandy Spencer, Angie Cole, Claire Green and Tara Clark, great-nephews, Brodrick Nickens, Aaron Davis-Nickens, Zion Spencer, Eric Woods, great-nieces, Mackinley Woods and Danielle Cole and her cousins, Charity Jones, Fawn Sullivan, Stephanie Shores, Jason Shores, David and Anna Evans as well as a great host of other loving family members.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, Hayes and Florence Chandler, Sr., her brothers, Ernie, Leroy and Danny and her nephew, Robert ‘BJ’ Nickens, stepdaughter, Dawn Dunbar.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Reed officiating.&nbsp; The service will conclude at the church, as a cemetery interment will not be conducted. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-5 p.m. with the family being present from 3-5 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Florence M. Nickens (1949 - 2024)

Marla Kay Weber, 68, died Tuesday, April 8, 2024 at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, Nebraska. Marla was born on July 21, 1955, in Alliance, Nebraska to Harvey and Delores Hampton. The family moved around western Nebraska throughout Marla’s childhood, eventually settling in the Scottsbluff/Gering area. Marla graduated from Gering High School.

On October 5, 1974, Marla married Charles Chester (Charlie) Weber of Cozad, Nebraska. To this union three children were born. They started their family in western Nebraska for a couple of years before returning to Cozad to help with the Weber family farm. Marla stayed home to raise the kids, help on the farm and provided childcare for some to the neighborhood kids. She later went to nursing school, first earning her LPN degree and then her RN degree. Marla worked at the Cozad Community Hospital for twenty years and then at nursing and assisted living facilities in central Nebraska. She retired in 2021.

Marla was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, enjoyed reading, planting flowers, working as a nurse and being a grandmother. Preceding her in death were her parents, Harvey Hampton, Delores, and Chester Hampton; her two youngest brothers, Raymond and Dawain Hampton; father and mother-in-law, Chester and Marjorie Weber; and sister-in-law, Ronda Weber.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie; siblings Carlie (Crystal) Hampton, Brenda (Randy) Hoff, and Rodney (Dixie) Hampton; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Gary) Kumke; brother-in-law, Carroll Weber, her children, Sonya Ann (Jeff) Buskirk of Kearney, Heather Dee Weber of Kearney, and William Chester (Cassondra) Weber of Omaha; and seven grandchildren, AnnaRose Marie Wilson, Dane Charles Buskirk, Grace Ann Weber, Izabella (Bella) Kaydee Buskirk, Joy Renae Bell, Hope Christine Bell, and Elijah David Killion; and two step-grandsons, Anthony and Chris Oberlin; and many nieces and nephews, and extended family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Gothenburg. Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard Tribute. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

 </figure>Marla Kay Weber, 68, died Tuesday, April 8, 2024 at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, Nebraska. Marla was born on July 21, 1955, in Alliance, Nebraska to Harvey and Delores Hampton. The family moved around western Nebraska throughout Marla’s childhood, eventually settling in the Scottsbluff/Gering area. Marla graduated from Gering High School.On October 5, 1974, Marla married Charles Chester (Charlie) Weber of Cozad, Nebraska. To this union three children were born. They started their family in western Nebraska for a couple of years before returning to Cozad to help with the Weber family farm. Marla stayed home to raise the kids, help on the farm and provided childcare for some to the neighborhood kids. She later went to nursing school, first earning her LPN degree and then her RN degree. Donna D. (Hoerler) Hansen passed away at Regional West Medical Center on Monday, April 8, 2024. She was born in Bridgeport, NE on July 14, 1939 to Emil Hoerler Jr. and Dorothy (Thomas) Hoerler. She attended Rural Morrill County Schools. She graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1957. She married her high school sweetheart, George Hansen after graduation. To this union 4 children were brought in fondly. Greg (Carlene) Hansen, Denise Matson, Diane Hansen, Dana (Tonia) Hansen. She had 7 grandchildren: Melissa Clement, April Conn, Justin Hansen, Jacob Hansen, Bonnie Holbrook, Tim Matson and Betsy Hansen. She also had 7 great grand children and 4 great-great grandchildren. Also survived by brothers Tom Hoerler and Ron Hoerler and sister Loretta Adam and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She worked at Bridgeport Public School and State Farm Insurance.All of her kids and grandkids loved her for her homemade cookies and cakes for their birthday. She will be missed greatly.A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 1:30 pm at the Oregon Trail Memorial Park Cemetery in Bridgeport with Rev Richard Neugenbauer officiating. Casual clothing is welcome.In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Donna can be given to the Bridgeport library or the American Cancer Society.
