Evelyn Mae (Schwabauer) Reichert passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Cremation was chosen. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Bridgman Funeral Home with Karen Anderson officiating. Burial of ashes will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Evelyn Mae (Schwabauer) Reichert was born September 11, 1932, in Gering, Nebraska (“in the shadow of the Scotts Bluff National Monument”) to Frederick and Amelia Schwabauer. She was the second of three children; joined by her older brother Eugene and younger sister, Mary Ann. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1951 and went on to work for the United Telephone Company for 18 months. Evelyn married Donald D. Reichert on February 8, 1953, and they had three daughters, Jean Ann, Linda, and Mary Jane. They were stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA for two years when Don was in the Army. Evelyn was a busy mom, as she was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls leader, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, Parent Teachers Association (PTA) President, room mother, Cosmospals, etc.

When the girls entered high school, she went to work for her sister in the surgery department of St. Mary’s Hospital in Scottsbluff, eventually transferring to Regional West’s surgery department. She retired in 1997 after 27 years. She then helped Don schedule for their bus company, Good Tyme Charter. 

Evelyn’s hobbies included fishing, camping, bowling, pinochle, angel, and rooster collecting, and she and Don would teach anyone who wanted to learn to water-ski! In retirement, her sister and her leaned on each other to “keep each other out of the nursing home”, as they put it! They traveled, shopped, and Linda joined them for some of their adventures. A recent trip to see grandson Billy Boyer and his family in Minnesota was a highlight. 

In retirement, she enjoyed watching tv, reading, WNCC Volleyball and Basketball games, Husker Volleyball (sitting courtside behind Coach Cook was a highlight), and “watching a good sunset”.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Don in 2015; infant daughter Mary Jane; brother Eugene in 2019; parents in law, Sarah and Dave Reichert, and sister-in-law Judy Krausie. Evelyn is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Jean Ann (Greg) Doxtater of Grand Island, New York and Linda (Tim) Harimon of Scottsbluff; Jean Ann’s son and wife Billy (Sheila) Boyer, as well as their children Ally, Lucy, and Jay of Osakis, Minnesota, and Breanden of Antioch, Illinois; sister Mary Ann Schwabauer; sisters-in-law Violet Irene Schwabauer of Scottsbluff, and Violet Kelley of Hereford, Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Charles E (Chuck) Arthur finished his earthly life on November 2, 2023. Always a believer in the Catholic church and continuing to miss his ‘daddy,’ he was ready to start his new chapter and reunite with friends and family who preceded him. Chuck was a farm boy at heart, purchasing a small acreage after his retirement, which he fondly named “Empty Pocket Acres.” He was a gentleman farmer for a time, raising small herds of cattle for sale and adopting a stray horse that appeared during one harsh winter. That horse became his buddy for many years.

Chuck had more than 36 years in partnership with Fran Whitney, enjoying traveling together and valuing the time spent camping and fishing.

Timothy (Tim) Andrew Gillett, 45, of Gering, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 1 at Scottsbluff Memorial Hospital.

Tim was born May 18, 1978, in Chadron, Nebraska to Terry and Phyllis Gillett. He attended elementary school in district 46 and 7 in Sioux County. After he graduated from Sioux County High School in 1997, he went on to study for a year at LaGrange School of the Bible in LaGrange, Wyoming.

He enjoyed numerous vocations including helping on his parent’s ranch, security work, customer service representative and pilot car driver.

Tim will be greatly missed for his enjoyment of riding the four-wheeler- checking and working cattle, love of conversing with others, his passion for Nebraska and Green Bay Packer football and playing pitch with his family. He also enjoyed working with the volunteer fire department wherever he was living.&nbsp;

Tim is preceded in death by grandparents Frank and Eileen Robinson, Rowland and Harriett Gillett, sisters Kelly and Jodi, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his parents, Terry and Phyllis Gillett, sister Shelly (Dan) Caskey, nieces Rachel Caskey, Bethany (Jake) DeWitt, Katie Caskey, nephew Caleb Caskey and grandniece Quinn DeWitt.

Memorials may be given to Harrison Bible Church or the Harrison Volunteer Fire Department in Tim’s memory.

William Ancil Penaluna 88 passed away Wednesday November 1, 2023 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, NE.

He was born on May 10, 1935 in Garden Valley, Ca to William and Sara (Waite) Penaluna.

William enjoyed being part of 385 Cruisers car Club of Alliance, NE and took great joy in cruising in his 1960 Studebaker. William was a mechanical engineer who worked for Bio Rad Lab.

William and his wife Carol loved to travel in their motorhome; visiting Palm Springs, Branson, Missouri and a lot of other great places. He enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball and football.

William is survived by his son Jeffrey of Rodeo, CA, his grandchildren, Travis, Ryan, Cody and Levi Penaluna and his great-granddaughter, Katie Penaluna. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife Carol Penaluna to whom he was married for 57 years and his sons, George and Corey.

Vicki Elaine (Sallee) Fiscus was born July 12, 1939 in Deadwood, SD to Kenneth C. and Mae (Alberts) Sallee. She passed into the arms of the Lord on October 31, 2023. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 4-7pm at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel. Vicki was the only child of a railroad engineer and attended school in Alliance through her junior year and graduated in Aurora, IL in 1957.

She agreed to a blind date with friends in the spring of 1956, where she met and fell in love with a redheaded cowboy. Sure that distance would end her “crush”, Vicki’s parents allowed her to continue dating the young man, and on January 24, 1960, Vicki was united in marriage to Merlyn Wayne Fiscus in Alliance. This true example of love lasted 60 years on earth and an eternity in heaven.

Their first home was in an apartment above Dr. Carl Frank’s Office in Scottsbluff. Vicki was a receptionist/ lab technician there. Vicki often laughed about not knowing how to cook or keep house when they were first married. She was so thankful for her mother-in-law and the Watkins cookbook that she loaned her. They welcomed their first son, Gene, into this home in 1962.

After a brief move to Aurora, IL. The family made their way back home to Rush Creek Land and Cattle near Hyannis, NE. Vicki took on the role of cook for the hired men and the family grew with the addition of Jody in 1966 and Rebecca in 1969. Never backing down from a challenge, Vicki flourished in her surroundings. She loved raising kids in the Sandhills where her gardening skills were born.

Vicki looked at life with optimism and her faith in the Lord grew. After Merlyn broke his leg in a “horse wreck”, they moved the family to the Petersen Quarter Horses farm outside of Bayard. She worked in the hay and corn fields learning to set irrigation tubes and rake hay. She worked campaigns at the Bayard Sugar Factory sewing sugar sacks and cleaned houses to make ends meet. Vicki was the equipment mover and bookkeeper for Fiscus Custom Farming, and worked tax season for Heather Belden. Her part time job in the kitchen at Chimney Rock Villa led her to obtaining a degree in Dietary Management, and worked there until her retirement.

Merlyn and Vicki purchased a small acreage outside of Bayard in 1993 and “retired” in 1997. She continued to help with the farm business and her huge garden. In 2022 she moved into an independent apartment at The Village in Scottsbluff where she enjoyed Bingo, Bible Study and spending time with new friends.

Vicki was baptized with her sons at Bayard Church of Christ where she was a member of the Dorcas Society. She had many lifelong friendships with her sisters there. She was a member of the Red Willow Club for many years and was the Associate Bethel Guardian and Bethel Guardian for Job’s Daughters Bethel #16 of Bayard. She was a Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher and served as treasurer for the Bayard Church of Christ.

Vicki is survived by her children, Gene and Kate Fiscus of Edgemont, SD, Jody and Karla Fiscus of Bayard, and Becki Fiscus of Bayard; Grandchildren, Jeri(Jesse McConkey) Ross, Jessica(Blake Latta) Fiscus, Jason(Ashley) Fiscus, Michael(Shelby Morris) Fiscus, Tyler Fiscus, Kaylie (Tanner) Willey, Victoria(Briston Ring) Huff, and Hayden(Navaeh Garcia) Huff; Great-grandchildren, Ryder Ross, Madilyn McConkey, Dally, Brady and Silas Fiscus, Ember Ring, Brynleigh Fiscus, and baby boy Willey due in February 2024; Brother and Sisters-in-law, Larry and Sharon Fiscus, Sharon Fiscus and Linda Wilkins; Special cousins, Patricia Smith, Janet Petersen, Bessie Hubbard, Jeannie Tyree, Joyce Russell and Cherie McKee; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Marilyn Jean Peck (nee Spilker), 89, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2023, at The Residency in Scottsbluff. A joint service for Jean and her husband, Jim Peck (February 15, 1935-May 23, 2023) will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 13, 2023, at The Residency, 2100 Circle Drive, Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place in accordance with their wishes. A memorial has been established as The James W. Peck and Marilyn Jean Peck Scholarship Fund at the University of Nebraska Foundation for a medical student scholarship. Jean was born January 24, 1934, in Cowles, Nebraska to Harvey and Alda (McBride) Spilker. She graduated from Minden High School in 1952. Jean returned to her education endeavors later in life when she attended Kearney State College from 1967-1971, earning a bachelor’s degree in music education.

She married her high school sweetheart, James “Jim” Whitford Peck, in 1953 in Minden. They welcomed four children while living in Lincoln and Omaha: Scott Douglas, William James, Susan Ellen, and Helen Jean. Jean and Jim lived in Kearney, Nebraska, Columbia, Missouri, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Scottsbluff where they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in March 2023.

Jean loved to play the piano and listen to classical music. She read a lot, volunteered at various libraries, and spent winters sewing and quilting. Jean belonged to several bridge clubs and was an avid Scrabble player. She developed a passion for golf while living in Columbia, Missouri. The invention of instant replay got her interested in football, which turned her into a Husker football fan. As a child she played, ‘boy things’, like cowboys, roller skating, and bike riding with her younger brother, Bill. She admitted to a secret desire to be a female athlete, and naturally became a huge fan of Husker volleyball. She organized the Community Concert series in Kearney and was a faithful blood donor. Her home was always spotless, and ever welcoming of family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Scott (Jeanne) Peck, Bill (Kathy) Peck, Susan Peck, Helen (Jim) Reinhardt; grandchildren, Lewis Reinhardt, Rebecca Jones, Hannah Liptac, and James Peck; ten great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Miles, and Luke Jones, Hallie, Ray, Shayla, and Kaia Reinhardt and Cal, Hank, and Jackie Liptac; sister, Barbara Stowe; and several nieces and nephews.

She developed a passion for golf while living in Columbia, Missouri. The invention of instant replay got her interested in football, which turned her into a Husker football fan. As a child she played, ‘boy things’, like cowboys, roller skating, and bike riding with her younger brother, Bill. She admitted to a secret desire to be a female athlete, and naturally became a huge fan of Husker volleyball. She organized the Community Concert series in Kearney and was a faithful blood donor. Her home was always spotless, and ever welcoming of family and friends.Survivors include her children, Scott (Jeanne) Peck, Bill (Kathy) Peck, Susan Peck, Helen (Jim) Reinhardt; grandchildren, Lewis Reinhardt, Rebecca Jones, Hannah Liptac, and James Peck; ten great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Miles, and Luke Jones, Hallie, Ray, Shayla, and Kaia Reinhardt and Cal, Hank, and Jackie Liptac; sister, Barbara Stowe; and several nieces and nephews.

Sherry was born on March 15, 1955, to Norman and June (Pritchard) Hand in Kearney, Nebraska. She graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1973. She attended Hastings Community College in 1973 and Kearney State College in 1974 where she played softball and had a great time while doing it.

She married Richard Fisher on March 24, 1978, in Kearney and to this union three children were born: Chevy, James, and Richard Jr.

Sherry worked for the City of Kearney, Ideal Linen, Magnolia Homes, and retired from The Home Depot where she enjoyed helping her contractors.

Bear, SherBear, Momma Bear, Grandma Bear as she was known by many, loved to fly, garden, can her goodies from her garden, watch bull-riding, local racing, and do diamond painting. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she played in the chime choir. Sherry was a past board member of the EAA Chapter 608 where she helped organize airport fly-ins and dressed up as Rosie the Riveter. Her love for softball continued throughout her life. She organized, coached, and played on many teams. She could be found sitting in her chair or at the kitchen table watching the girls play during the yearly Women’s College World Series. Sherry was also an avid Huskers fan, cheering on the Lady Huskers playing volleyball and the guys playing football. GO BIG RED!

One of her favorite things was spending time with her family and going back to “P-town” to visit. She had many stories of growing up on the river and flying airplanes with her dad, achieving a pilot’s license before her driver’s license. She was always on the go as a child and enjoyed visiting her grandparents’ farm, climbing trees, getting into mischief, and playing with her cousins. She loved her grandkids and attended every event she could from football to dance recitals. She and the grandkids would often be together baking her famous snickerdoodle cookies. She made everything fun and convinced her grandkids to brush their teeth by saying she wanted, “freshy fresh kisses”.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Richard Fisher; children, Chevy Fisher, James (Candace) Fisher, and Richard (Rebecca) Fisher Jr.; grandchildren, Jordon, Paige, Silas, Joshua, Caroline, and Amelia Fisher; brothers, Bob (Lea) Hand and Jon (Diane) Hand; brothers-in-law, Roger (Robin) Fisher and David (Lois) Fisher; sister-in-law, Kathleen Fisher; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cindy was born June 22, 1962, in Scottsbluff to Jerry and Grace (Carter) Andrew. She attended elementary school in Henry, Nebraska from Kindergarten through eighth grade. She then transferred to Morrill Public Schools where she graduated from Morrill High School.

Cindy became a proud mother when she welcomed her son, Jeremy and later her daughter, Tiffany, into the world. Cindy married John Guseman in October 2020 and the couple made their home in Russellville.

She was a dependable employee of Arby's for over twenty years. Cindy was well-liked and a favorite face amongst customers throughout her years of employment with the company.

Cindy liked creating ceramics and going for walks in her spare time. She also volunteered many hours assisting at local nursing homes. She was a member of The Rock Church until she relocated to Alabama. Cindy enjoyed every moment spent with her family and loved her grandkids deeply. A smile could always be found on her face and she radiated happiness.

Survivors include her two children, Jeremy Herman of Mitchell, NE and Tiffany Reynolds (Curtis Hanks) also of Mitchell, NE; four grandchildren, Madyson and Dylan Reynolds and Landon and Carsyn Herman; one brother, Jerry David Andrew of Mitchell, NE; one sister, Jamalee (Rick) Caylor of Torrington, WY; husband, John Guseman of Russellville, AL; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Georgina “Gina” Mattley, 78, of Gering, Nebraska passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 12:15 a.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1345 18th Street, Gering with Father Mike McDonald officiating. Gina was born October 18, 1945, in Walsenburg, Colorado to Peter and Lucy (Quirico) Berno. She married Larry Henry Kraus on June 15, 1963, and was blessed with four children. In 1980 Gina moved to Scottsbluff with her children and began working with special needs clients.

Gina had a great talent for crafting. She enjoyed traveling to craft fairs to sell her items and loved meeting new people. She was instrumental in organizing and hosting the Gering annual Oregon Trail Days craft fair. One of her favorite pastimes was socializing with others. Gina was also known to play a game or two of Keno in her down time.

Gina was very committed to her faith and was actively involved in her church, Christ the King. She served on many committees, was an active member of the Prayer Tree Ministry as well as the Treasurer of the Ladies Guild and an auxiliary member of The Legion of Mary.

Gina had a very special love for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include Children, Larry Kraus, Randy Kraus, Tammy Bollman and Gary (Shawna) Kraus. Richard Lee Loyd was born May 4, 1945 to Everett and Dora (Mathis) Loyd in Alliance, Nebraska. He graduated from Minatare High School. He entered the Army as a construction Builder (CB) during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from the Army and started working in construction for over 30 years. Later, he worked for Pathfinder Irrigation district as a Ditch rider for several years. He was also on the MInatare City Council and Mayor of Minatare from 1987 to 1991.

Richard passed away at his home in Scottsbluff on October 28th, 2023, at the age of 78.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Ruth Mathis: parents, Everett and Dora Loyd; his sons, Randy Loyd and Kevin Stratton; sister and husband, Mary (Loyd) and Kenny Eck, Kary (Loyd) Wayne Nolte; brother, Marvin Loyd; and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Loyd; children, Sheri Stratton of Colorado, Diane and&nbsp;Steve Renker of Lincoln, Tammy Stratton of Scottsbluff, Robin and Richard Bessert of Aniwa, WI;&nbsp;Chuck and Bobbie Stratton of Mitchell, Judy Loyd of Gering, Gary Reno of New Mexico, Leslie and Marilyn Reno of Scottsbluff, Lois Jean Petty of Oshkosh, Phillip and Linda Henkel of Bayard, Jim and Linda Reno of Oklahoma, Vicki Reno of North Dakota; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Raymond "Ray" Leslie Wright 69 passed away Wednesday October 26th, 2023 peacefully at home. He now rests with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born November 23rd, 1953, to Esther Wright in Greeley, Colorado.&nbsp; Crawford became Ray’s hometown as a toddler.&nbsp;&nbsp; Ray was a resourceful kid and started his mechanical career very young.&nbsp;&nbsp; He and his brother built a go-kart with materials they could scrounge up.&nbsp; Their fun was short as the Crawford police believed dismantling the kart would be best.&nbsp; At age 11 his skills were used to fix his mother’s car, which he gladly did until she ceased driving a few years ago.&nbsp; Throughout his youth he worked many odd jobs including Anderson's dealership and the CO-OP service station in Crawford.&nbsp; Ray was well known for his mix of muscle cars and motorcycles. Ray was sometimes notorious with the town police.&nbsp; Excessive usage of horsepower was a vice hard for Ray to control.&nbsp; After high school he and his brother Bob worked in construction at Missouri Valley Construction.&nbsp; There they worked with crews building I-80.&nbsp; During this time, he dated and then married the love of his life Cheryl Beman in 1977.&nbsp; In 1978 Ray began his railroad career as a Machinist Apprentice for Burlington Northern.&nbsp; After numerous positions and promotions, he retired as a supervisor in 2010.

During their 45 years of marriage Ray and Cheryl had 3 wonderful children, Danea, Scott, and Melissa.&nbsp; Ray spent time coaching and was an avid supporter of his children's sports.&nbsp;

Ray was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He served many positions within the church where he was able to share his strong faith.&nbsp; Ray was never shy about spreading God's good word and always said "God Bless" when saying goodbye.

Ray was a selfless man.&nbsp; He woke each morning with a drive to help others.&nbsp; Ray's willingness to help anyone in need was unparalleled.&nbsp; Countless people received his loving help for whatever his two hands and huge heart could give.&nbsp; Paying it forward was in his DNA.&nbsp; It shall live on forever through those he instilled this passion.

Ray's love of speed and all things mechanical stayed with him throughout life.&nbsp; Ray built many race engines and worked on race cars with his lifelong friends.&nbsp; Together they attended national events, held records and won races.&nbsp; The Wright garage often rumbled with thunder.&nbsp; Ray’s engines would rattle dishes in his neighbor’s cabinets.&nbsp; Famous for his small block Chevy engines, they would breathe unmuffled fire.&nbsp; “Buzzing” to redline the noise would attract a crowd of neighbors young and old.&nbsp; Ray’s shop was a social gathering of motorheads, neighbors and family.&nbsp; There he would spread his wisdom on mechanics and God.&nbsp;

As his children grew and married his grandkids became a favorite part of life.&nbsp; Ray's grandkids loved his '69 Camaro as much as he did.&nbsp; The grandsons took to his love of speed machines.&nbsp; The granddaughters softened his rough hands with their hearts.&nbsp; They will grow up and carry his torch, becoming people’s “Ray” of light - offering a helping hand to one in need.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl of Hemingford, daughter Danea (Corey) Crowder of Beulah Wyoming, son Scott (Alicia) Wright of New Underwood, South Dakota, daughter Melissa (Roy) Bierman of Arnold, Nebraska, grandchildren Tristin and Corbin Crowder, Jordan and Hailey Wright, Brook, Walter, Emma and Ava Bierman.&nbsp;

Also surviving him is his mother Esther Wright, sister Helen (Bob) Arnold, brother Bob (Alta) Wright, sister Kathy (Roger) McCoy, many wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Proceeded in death by his in-laws Jerry and Dorothy Beman, and sister-in-law Vicky Dunn.

 </figure>Raymond "Ray" Leslie Wright 69 passed away Wednesday October 26th, 2023 peacefully at home. He now rests with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born November 23rd, 1953, to Esther Wright in Greeley, Colorado.&nbsp; Crawford became Ray’s hometown as a toddler.&nbsp;&nbsp; Ray was a resourceful kid and started his mechanical career very young.&nbsp;&nbsp; He and his brother built a go-kart with materials they could scrounge up.&nbsp; Their fun was short as the Crawford police believed dismantling the kart would be best.&nbsp; At age 11 his skills were used to fix his mother’s car, which he gladly did until she ceased driving a few years ago.&nbsp; Throughout his youth he worked many odd jobs including Anderson's dealership and the CO-OP service station in Crawford.&nbsp; Ray was well known for his mix of muscle cars and motorcycles. Ray was sometimes notorious with the town police.&nbsp; Excessive usage of horsepower was a vice hard for Ray to control.&nbsp; After high school he and his brother Bob worked in construction at Missouri Valley Construction.&nbsp; There they worked with crews building I-80.&nbsp; During this time, he dated and then married the love of his life Cheryl Beman in 1977.&nbsp; In 1978 Ray began his railroad career as a Machinist Apprentice for Burlington Northern.&nbsp; After numerous positions and promotions, he retired as a supervisor in 2010.During their 45 years of marriage Ray and Cheryl had 3 wonderful children, Danea, Scott, and Melissa.&nbsp; Ray spent time coaching and was an avid supporter of his children's sports.&nbsp;Ray was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He served many positions within the church where he was able to share his strong faith.&nbsp; Ray was never shy about spreading God's good word and always said "God Bless" when saying goodbye.Ray was a selfless man.&nbsp; He woke each morning with a drive to help others.&nbsp; Ray's willingness to help anyone in need was unparalleled.&nbsp; Countless people received his loving help for whatever his two hands and huge heart could give.&nbsp; Paying it forward was in his DNA.&nbsp; It shall live on forever through those he instilled this passion.Ray's love of speed and all things mechanical stayed with him throughout life.&nbsp; Ray built many race engines and worked on race cars with his lifelong friends.&nbsp; Together they attended national events, held records and won races.&nbsp; The Wright garage often rumbled with thunder.&nbsp; Ray’s engines would rattle dishes in his neighbor’s cabinets.&nbsp; Famous for his small block Chevy engines, they would breathe unmuffled fire.&nbsp; “Buzzing” to redline the noise would attract a crowd of neighbors young and old.&nbsp; Ray’s shop was a social gathering of motorheads, neighbors and family.&nbsp; There he would spread his wisdom on mechanics and God.&nbsp;As his children grew and married his grandkids became a favorite part of life.&nbsp; Ray's grandkids loved his '69 Camaro as much as he did.&nbsp; The grandsons took to his love of speed machines.&nbsp; The granddaughters softened his rough hands with their hearts.&nbsp; They will grow up and carry his torch, becoming people’s “Ray” of light - offering a helping hand to one in need.He is survived by his wife Cheryl of Hemingford, daughter Danea (Corey) Crowder of Beulah Wyoming, son Scott (Alicia) Wright of New Underwood, South Dakota, daughter Melissa (Roy) Bierman of Arnold, Nebraska, grandchildren Tristin and Corbin Crowder, Jordan and Hailey Wright, Brook, Walter, Emma and Ava Bierman.&nbsp;Also surviving him is his mother Esther Wright, sister Helen (Bob) Arnold, brother Bob (Alta) Wright, sister Kathy (Roger) McCoy, many wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.Proceeded in death by his in-laws Jerry and Dorothy Beman, and sister-in-law Vicky Dunn.His celebration of life will be Saturday, November 4th&nbsp;at the Community Building in Crawford Nebraska – 2:00 PM.&nbsp;A memorial has been established for the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Crawford, NE.&nbsp; Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337

Raymond "Ray" Leslie Wright  (1953 - 2023)

Donna Rae Moran, passed away peacefully at the age of 85, at the Gordon Countryside Care. Donna was a compassionate soul and dedicated nurse, who devoted her life to healing and caring for others, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.

Born on May 24th, 1938 in Hastings, Nebraska to Edward D. and Margaret L. (Zobel) Wilken, Donna’s journey in nursing began with a profound sense of empathy and a commitment to making a difference when she attended, and graduated from, the Mary Lanning School of Nursing in Hastings.&nbsp;

She met Richard C. Moran while in nursing school they married on October 10th, 1959. Richard and Donna would eventually have four children, Michael Jon, Marcia Kay, Michelle Lea, and Melanie Ann.

After her graduation from nursing school, she was employed at the Hastings Regional Center (formerly known as Ingleside Hospital) and then as a clinic nurse in Emporia Kansas before moving to Gordon, NE in 1968. While living in Gordon, Donna took on odd jobs in the evenings to supplement the household income by washing uniforms for the meat packing plant and cleaning up at the laundromat, until eventually returning to the field of nursing by working for Gordon Memorial Hospital. During Donna’s employment at GMH, she handled post-anesthesia care unit nursing, worked with assisting to set up cardiac rehabilitation and was instrumental in the initiation of home health and homemakers at GMH. Donna’s nursing skills were matched only by her kindness, and her patients remember her not just for her expertise but for the warmth and compassion she brought to their care.&nbsp;

Donna was an energetic, fun-loving personality who enjoyed family, playing games and dancing to her favorite music - if it was a hit from her high school &nbsp;days, a jocular tune of Ray Stevens, or one of her grandchildren’s favorite tunes, she loved them all. In her later years, Donna had this ability to win over all who cared for her and left them with a lasting impression - with her fun loving remarks and goofy antics. She was a true joy to be around and will be greatly missed.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Richard and her daughter Marcia and her husband Jim Elder.

She leaves behind her brother Gary and his wife Debra Wilken of Lincoln, NE, son Michael and wife Wendy of Omaha, NE, and two daughters, Michelle Bruns and husband Craig of Whiteclay, NE and Melanie Paul and husband Ryan of Gordon, NE. Her grandchildren: Erin Moran of Omaha, NE, &nbsp;Amy Moran of Omaha, NE, Eric and wife Samantha Elder of Kearney, NE, Haley Elder of Midvale, UT, Michael Ireson of Scottsbluff, NE, Jacqueline and her husband Matt Hockley of Rapid City, SD, Cassidy Bruns of Clovis, NM, Abigail Bruns, of Whiteclay, NE, Paige and husband Jace Stumpff of Gordon, NE, and Ryder Paul of Gordon, NE. One great-granddaughter Hazel Hockley of Rapid City, SD.&nbsp;

Services will be held at the Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home on October 27th, 2023, 10:00 AM. Inurnment will be at the Gordon Cemetery.&nbsp;

Daniel Robb Ellis, 60, of Alliance, NE., died on October 25, 2023.

Dan was born in Lincoln, NE on November 15th 1962 to Wade H. Ellis Jr. and Deanne McCune Ellis. &nbsp;He and his brother Michael were raised in Alliance by their grandparents; Dorothy and Dee McCune and Wade and Raye Ellis after the deaths of their parents in an automobile accident in 1967.

Dan graduated from Alliance High School in 1981 and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History (with a teaching certification) from the University of Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by; his parents Wade H. Ellis Jr. and Deanne McCune Ellis, his grandparents Dorothy and Dee McCune and Raye and Wade Ellis, and his uncles David McCune and Paul McCune.

Dan is survived by his children, his brother, his aunt and uncles.

Funeral service is Friday, November 10 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Matt Koperski officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. &nbsp;After the services, family and friends will gather at The Bowl Mor Lounge for a celebration of Dan’s life, we hope all will attend with boisterous and happy stories about Dan.

LaVerne Kolodziej, 66, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at her home in Alliance with her family by her side.

She was born on August 17, 1957 in Los Angeles, California to Donald and LaVerne (Erodnansky) Kolodziej.&nbsp; She has been a resident of Alliance for the past 18 years. While in Alliance she has been working for McDonald’s Restaurant and Maverick.

She is survived by her children, Tommy (Melissa) Connelly of Oklahoma, Garry (Emily) Connelly of Alliance, Christopher (Kim) Connelly of Fergus Falls, MN, Sharron Craig, Darrell (Jamie) Craig and Terry (Dakota) Craig all of Alliance along with her 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She is also survived by her mother and step-father, LaVerne and Ralph Wesner of Las Vegas, her brothers and sister, Curtis Wesner, Cindy Wesner, Paul Wesner Andy Wesner and Walter Kolodzieg.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her father and a sister.

Memorial services will be Friday, November 3 at 4:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Father Matt Koperski officiating. Memorials may be given in care of the family.

LaVerne Kolodziej (1957 - 2023)

Wayne William Gorsuch was born on January 9, 1933 to Arthur John and Edna Mabel (LeLaCheur) Gorsuch in Cherry County, Nebraska. He passed on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 in his home with the love of his life.

Wayne was the 4th&nbsp;of 9 siblings. He attended country school through his eighth-grade year. He started high school in Mullen, NE before leaving school to work for his father during the blizzard of ’49 at Mud Lake Ranch. He then worked for several years on the Big Creek Ranch before being drafted into the Army in 1953 until 1955. He served in France and Germany as a truck driver.

When Wayne returned home, he began seeing Janet McIntosh and were married on August 26, 1956, in Alliance, NE. He then began working at the JL Schneider Ranch south of Whitman, NE. Here they welcomed their first two boys, Marvin and Alan. Later, Janet and Wayne moved to Big Creek Ranch where Janet cooked, and Wayne cowboyed. They then moved back to Mullen to help Janet’s father with his trucking business until Wayne started work at the Coble Ranch north of Mullen. They finally found their home in 1963 at the Joe Boyer Ranch. This is where they stayed for the next 31 years. Here they welcomed two more children, Loren and Karen. When he had the chance, he spent time helping as a pick-up man for S&amp;J Rodeo Stock. He was also considered the community country vet that was willing to do a late-night c-section and work on water bellies for many of the neighbors. He chased all 4 of his children at their high school games and rodeo.

In 1994, after 31 wonderful years in Mullen raising their children, they moved to Alliance where Wayne took a job working for Mark Buskirk on his farm. They later retired and stayed in Alliance in their home for the last 25 years of Wayne’s life.

Wayne was a cowboy through and through. He loved spending time in the saddle and even more when his family was with him. In 2015, Wayne was inducted into the Sandhills Cowboy Hall of Fame. Wayne was known for his ornery ways, always joking and was known to carry a trick gun that he would tell was a lighter so people would pull the trigger and then get shocked.&nbsp; Wayne had a heart of gold and would not hesitate to help those in need. He was his happiest when he was sitting with his wife and spending time with his family playing a game of cards. Wayne left a legacy of love and always made sure his family knew how much he cared for them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Art and Edna Gorsuch and his in-laws; Melvin and Josephine McIntosh. He was also preceded in death by 7 of his siblings, Raymond, Viola, Lloyd, Dorothy, Opal, Lois, and Francis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Janet and their four children: Marvin (JoAnn) Gorsuch, Alan (Susan) Gorsuch, Loren Gorsuch (Franchone Mooney), and Karen (Travis) Petersen. Wayne has one living brother, Paul. He was also survived by his 8 grandchildren: Dean (Bekah) Gorsuch, Michelle (Josh) Lipker, Erin Gorsuch (Dustin Wyckoff), Levi (Danny) Leonard-Gorsuch, Bailey (Topher) Throckmorton, Lauren (Kort) Gartrell, Shaley (Alex) Wamboldt, and Taylor Petersen. Wayne was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren as well.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alliance Eagles Club.

Wayne William Gorsuch (1933 - 2023)

Daniel L. Linegar, Sr., age 69, of Hemingford, NE passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at his home.&nbsp;

Dan was born April 24, 1954 in Oberlin, KS to parents Richard and JoAnn (Leonard) Linegar. He was one of seven children. Dan graduated from McCook High School with the Class of 1973.

On June 12, 1982, Dan married the love of his life, Cheryl A. (McConville) Linegar at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook, NE. They were the proud parents of seven children. Dan worked for BNSF Railroad for 36 years and happily retired to his farm near Hemingford, NE.

Dan enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He cherished the time with his grandchildren by reading many stories, doing chores around the farm, and following their activities.&nbsp; Dan loved horses and owned Pineview Carriage Service with his team of Percherons “Jim and George” for eight years.&nbsp; He had a passion to teach family and friends horsemanship and how to ride.&nbsp; For over 10 years, Dan volunteered for the Equine Therapy Riding Program at East Point Horspice (EPH) and sat on the Board of Directors for the organization.

Dan is survived by his wife, Cheryl Linegar of Hemingford, NE; children, Krea (JP) Biernacki of Gering, NE, Daniel Linegar, Jr. of Alliance, NE, Christopher Matthews of Omaha, NE, Bryan (Malinda) Linegar of Chadron, NE, Jessica (Brian) Brown of Gillette, WY, Joseph (Jill) Linegar of Grand Forks, ND and Thomas (Emily) Linegar of South Beach, OR; siblings, Linda Craig, Rich (Sherry) Linegar, Sue (Scott) Fields, Connie Chandler, Steve (Fran) Linegar and Tim (DeAnn) Davis; sixteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Cecil Davis; and other extended family.

Linegar, Sr., age 69, of Hemingford, NE passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at his home.&nbsp;Dan was born April 24, 1954 in Oberlin, KS to parents Richard and JoAnn (Leonard) Linegar. He was one of seven children. Dan graduated from McCook High School with the Class of 1973.On June 12, 1982, Dan married the love of his life, Cheryl A. (McConville) Linegar at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook, NE. They were the proud parents of seven children. Dan worked for BNSF Railroad for 36 years and happily retired to his farm near Hemingford, NE.Dan enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He cherished the time with his grandchildren by reading many stories, doing chores around the farm, and following their activities.&nbsp; Dan loved horses and owned Pineview Carriage Service with his team of Percherons “Jim and George” for eight years.&nbsp; He had a passion to teach family and friends horsemanship and how to ride.&nbsp; For over 10 years, Dan volunteered for the Equine Therapy Riding Program at East Point Horspice (EPH) and sat on the Board of Directors for the organization.Dan is survived by his wife, Cheryl Linegar of Hemingford, NE; children, Krea (JP) Biernacki of Gering, NE, Daniel Linegar, Jr. of Alliance, NE, Christopher Matthews of Omaha, NE, Bryan (Malinda) Linegar of Chadron, NE, Jessica (Brian) Brown of Gillette, WY, Joseph (Jill) Linegar of Grand Forks, ND and Thomas (Emily) Linegar of South Beach, OR; siblings, Linda Craig, Rich (Sherry) Linegar, Sue (Scott) Fields, Connie Chandler, Steve (Fran) Linegar and Tim (DeAnn) Davis; sixteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.Dan was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Cecil Davis; and other extended family.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to East Point Horspice, 2511 East Point Acres, Alliance, NE 69301. Edward Lee “Sandy” Haug, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed from this life peacefully on October 22, 2023 in Rapid City, SD surrounded by family who loved him deeply.

Ed and his best friend and wife, Doris Evon (Ross) Haug lived happily outside of Hot Springs, South Dakota in a beautiful and serene area since 2000.

Ed was born on July 8, 1937 in Long Beach, California to Helen “Billie” and Samuel “Sam” Haug. He had an older sister, Barbara, who died after birth in 1936. He was happy to welcome a baby sister, Valerie Ann, who was born in 1950.

Ed spent much of his childhood with his grandparents, Lee and Noel Meekins, on their farm outside of Fort Morgan, Colorado. He was happiest riding horses, hunting, and working in the fields with his beloved Grandpa and his uncle, Mel Meekins.

Ed attended Central Elementary and Fort Morgan Junior-Senior High Schools. He was active in all sports, especially football, where he earned Varsity letters for four years. He graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1956.

On August 31, 1957, Ed was married to his childhood sweetheart, Doris Evon Ross, in the First Christian Church in Fort Morgan. They were best friends and were faithful to each other for 53 years of happy marriage.

Ed and Doris were happy to be blessed with two very special sons: Kurt Allyn Haug, born in Boulder, Colorado in 1959 and Vance Eric Haug, born in Long Beach, California in 1965. Both of these sons brought them much joy as they were growing up and have continued to do so as wonderful strong men with families of their own. Kurt and his wife, Judy, have nine children: Jordan (Ashley), Kourtney (Adam), Bethany (Shoshana), Emily (Louie), Nathan (Christine), Bretton (Madeline), Dustyn (Becca), Kason, and Christian. Vance and his wife, Dana, have three children: Heather (Rachel), Kaitlyn, and Zac. Each grandchild has been unique and special and has been dearly loved. Ed was beloved by all of them and leaves each of them with memories to treasure of Grandpa. He was also fortunate enough to have the blessing of eight great-grandchildren: Kimball, Addisyn, Silas, Thiago, Rylie, Emilio, Avery, and Olive.

Ed attended Colorado School of Mines in 1956 and then transferred to the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado in 1957, where he was a fullback for the Colorado Buffaloes. In 1959 Ed suffered severe injuries to his left leg that ended both his college and football careers for several years of recovery from his injuries. When he returned to college it was at Long Beach State College, now the University of California at Long Beach. He graduated from there in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts with a Math Minor. Later, Ed attended the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colorado where he received a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration in 1977.

Ed was an educator from 1963-2007. He taught math, woodworking, and drafting in secondary schools and loved coaching football, basketball, wrestling, and track for 14 years. He then served as a successful secondary school assistant principal, or athletic director for 27 years. After retirement, he was asked to teach for three years in the Education and the Applied Science/Technology Departments at Oglala Lakota College on the Pine Ridge Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. His long career took him to many states, including California, Nebraska, Oregon, Utah, Idaho and South Dakota. Through these years, he was a positive influence and wonderful example in the lives of many young people.

Ed loved his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his wife became members in 1963. Wherever they lived, Ed was very active and served in many capacities, in Sunday School and in the organizations for the young men. He was called to serve and lead his entire congregation as Bishop or Branch President many times. He devoted much of his life and time to his church and lived its standards and teachings wherever he was. He loved our Lord, Jesus Christ, and was a faithful disciple all his life.

Family members who preceded Ed in passing were his infant sister, Barbara Joyce; his parents, Billie and Sam Haug; his beloved grandparents, Lee and Noel Meekins; and his sweetheart, Doris Evon (Ross) Haug.

Ed leaves here on earth his sons, Kurt and Vance, and their families; his sister, Valerie Gallof and her family; and numerous other family members and dear friends.

Funeral services and a celebration of Ed’s life will be held in the chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Fort Morgan, Colorado at 1:00pm on Friday October 27, 2023. A short service will follow at graveside in Memory Gardens, Riverside Cemetery, Fort Morgan, Colorado. Chamberlain Chapel will be in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established for the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Hot Springs, SD Public Schools. Donations can be sent to Chamberlain Chapel P.O box 970 Chadron, NE 69337.

Edward Lee “Sandy” Haug (1937 - 2023)

Longtime Lincoln resident Janet Hunter Christensen Oehm passed away peacefully on October 18, 2023. Janet was born in Alliance, Nebraska on February 22, 1940 to James and Pauline (Pickerell) Hunter. After graduating from Alliance High School in 1958, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.

She married Arnold (Bud) Christensen on June 11, 1960 and the couple were married for 36 years, until his death in 1996. They made their first home in Rapid City, South Dakota. When they moved to Alliance, Nebraska in 1960 her husband joined her family in the management of the Drake Hotel. The Christensens were well known in the Nebraska panhandle for their catering and hospitality. Janet and Bud raised their four sons in Alliance. As a mother of four active boys she became a regular room mother/den mother whose baked treats were always plentiful and devoured. Her love of tradition and her home made holidays a special opportunity. When the Drake Hotel closed in 1986, the Christensens moved to Lincoln. Janet began a new career in retail sales &amp; management in women’s apparel for J.Bragg's, Ben Simon's, and Dillard's until her retirement in 2013. She enjoyed working with individual clients and made lasting friendships. Her husband Bud died in 1996. Janet married Edwund (Ed) Oehm on November 28, 1997 in New York City.

Janet is survived by her husband, sons: Gregory (Timothy Gura) of Pittsboro, North Carolina, David (Jan) of Lincoln, Matthew of Lincoln and John (Linda) of Lincoln. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Liza Baker (Travis), Benjamin Christensen, Jack Christensen, and Zoe Christensen; great-granddaughter Ruby Baker; sister Jean (Jon) Jacobson; and three nieces and two nephews. She is also survived stepdaughter; Renee Vacek, stepsons; Eddie and Mike Oehm and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Arnold W. Christensen, and her brother, James D. Hunter.

A memorial service for Janet will be held Friday, November 3rd, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.

Donna M. Waters, 94, of Scottsbluff, NE passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Residency in Scottsbluff. Her funeral service will be held 10 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Reverend Jeffrey Grams officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 27 at Bridgman Funeral Home from 6-8pm.

She and her parents moved to Demby, South Dakota that spring where her father was involved in both farming and ranching. She attended the Denby County School until 1942, then moved with her parents and siblings to Gering, Nebraska. She graduated from Gering High School in 1946. While working for the Andrews Insurance Agency, she met and married Alvin C. Frye on March 30, 1947. To that marriage, 2 daughters and one son were born. She married Owen R. Waters of Lakewood Colo, Feb 5th, 1972 and was happily married until his death in 1997. They lived in Lakewood, Colorado until moving to the North Platte Valley in 1984. Donna was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Scottsbluff for over 20 years and where she served as the president of LWML for many years. When her children were young, she was a Blue Bird, Campfire, and Cub Scout leader. She loved her family. Her main interests were traveling and visiting her 2 daughters and son’s ranches located in Wyoming and Kansas. Survivors include her daughters Carol Jean (David) Ruff of Torrington, WY and Jo Ann Curran of Oak Ridge, TN; son Kenneth A. Frye of Berthoud, CO; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Richard England of Scottsbluff, NE; sister Shirley Halstead of Santa Rosa, CA; 2 sisters-in-law Barbara Hood of Beulah, SD and Kathy England of Albuquerque, NM; several nieces, nephews and friends.

She grew up in the Mullen, NE area and graduated from Mullen High School in 1965.&nbsp; She continued her education at Chadron State College from 1965 – 1966 and then moved to Alliance, NE.&nbsp; After her first daughter, Kristi, was born in June of 1968, she and her family moved to Ogallala.&nbsp; Ogallala is where she met Ronald Turner and married in February 1974.&nbsp; After his death that same year, her second daughter, Rona, was born.&nbsp; While working at the VFW, she met Paul Biggs.&nbsp; They married on June 16th, 1978.&nbsp; In 1979 they welcomed her 3rd daughter, Elaine.&nbsp;

Phyllis worked for 11 years in the Ogallala School lunch program from 1982 – 1993.&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1993, her family moved to Wilber, NE, and continued working in the school lunch program there until she retired in 2010.&nbsp;

One of the things Phyllis treasured most in life was her family. &nbsp;She cherished spending time with family and made a point of visiting with siblings, nieces, nephews, and others as much as she could.&nbsp; Her warm smile, kind words, and profound loyalty will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.&nbsp;

In addition to her family, Phyllis enjoyed researching and documenting family history, puzzles, games, and being a competitive card player where she loved to engage in a lively match using her sharp strategy and sense of humor at the table.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Paul Biggs, daughters, Kristi Grafford of Omaha, NE, Rona Boyd of Douglass, KS, and Elaine (Salvador) Regalado, of Wilber, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp; Siblings, Arnold (Helen) Grafford of Lewellen, Tom (Kathy) Grafford of Keystone, NE, John Grafford of Sutherland, NE and Nora (Steve) Deaver of Holyoke, CO.&nbsp; Eight grandchildren, M’Kailalyn (Lindsay), Grant, Kayleigh, Kennedy, Gavin, Ethan, Abygail, and JT, plus 3 bonus grandchildren, Lizzie, Miranda, and Brody. She also held a special place in her heart for every one of her nieces and nephews and their families.&nbsp;

Welcoming her to heaven are her parents, Charles and Lillabelle Grafford, father and mother-in-law Paul Sr. and Lucille Biggs, sister Sue George, brother-in-laws Roger Biggs and Ron Lightner, sister-in-law Mary Jean Lightner, granddaughter Lilliana Regalado, nephew Tyrel Grafford.&nbsp;

Visitation will be Thursday, October 19th, 2023 at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., the family will be greeting friends from 4 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Chapel.

The Funeral Service will be Friday, October 20th, 2023 at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M., officiating will be Pastor Mark Baldwin of Paxton United Methodist Church.

Internment will take place on October 20th, 2023 in the Ogallala Cemetery, Ogallala, NE.
