Longtime Lincoln resident Janet Hunter Christensen Oehm passed away peacefully on October 18, 2023. Janet was born in Alliance, Nebraska on February 22, 1940 to James and Pauline (Pickerell) Hunter. After graduating from Alliance High School in 1958, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.

She married Arnold (Bud) Christensen on June 11, 1960 and the couple were married for 36 years, until his death in 1996. They made their first home in Rapid City, South Dakota. When they moved to Alliance, Nebraska in 1960 her husband joined her family in the management of the Drake Hotel. The Christensens were well known in the Nebraska panhandle for their catering and hospitality. Janet and Bud raised their four sons in Alliance. As a mother of four active boys she became a regular room mother/den mother whose baked treats were always plentiful and devoured. Her love of tradition and her home made holidays a special opportunity. When the Drake Hotel closed in 1986, the Christensens moved to Lincoln. Janet began a new career in retail sales &amp; management in women’s apparel for J.Bragg's, Ben Simon's, and Dillard's until her retirement in 2013. She enjoyed working with individual clients and made lasting friendships. Her husband Bud died in 1996. Janet married Edwund (Ed) Oehm on November 28, 1997 in New York City.

Janet is survived by her husband, sons: Gregory (Timothy Gura) of Pittsboro, North Carolina, David (Jan) of Lincoln, Matthew of Lincoln and John (Linda) of Lincoln. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Liza Baker (Travis), Benjamin Christensen, Jack Christensen, and Zoe Christensen; great-granddaughter Ruby Baker; sister Jean (Jon) Jacobson; and three nieces and two nephews. She is also survived stepdaughter; Renee Vacek, stepsons; Eddie and Mike Oehm and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Arnold W. Christensen, and her brother, James D. Hunter.

A memorial service for Janet will be held Friday, November 3rd, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.

Donna M. Waters, 94, of Scottsbluff, NE passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Residency in Scottsbluff. Her funeral service will be held 10 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Reverend Jeffrey Grams officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 27 at Bridgman Funeral Home from 6-8pm.

While working for the Andrews Insurance Agency, she met and married Alvin C. Frye on March 30, 1947. To that marriage, 2 daughters and one son were born. She married Owen R. Waters of Lakewood Colo, Feb 5th, 1972 and was happily married until his death in 1997. They lived in Lakewood, Colorado until moving to the North Platte Valley in 1984. Donna was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Scottsbluff for over 20 years and where she served as the president of LWML for many years. When her children were young, she was a Blue Bird, Campfire, and Cub Scout leader. She loved her family. Her main interests were traveling and visiting her 2 daughters and son’s ranches located in Wyoming and Kansas. Survivors include her daughters Carol Jean (David) Ruff of Torrington, WY and Jo Ann Curran of Oak Ridge, TN; son Kenneth A. Frye of Berthoud, CO; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Richard England of Scottsbluff, NE; sister Shirley Halstead of Santa Rosa, CA; 2 sisters-in-law Barbara Hood of Beulah, SD and Kathy England of Albuquerque, NM; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Phyllis Dianne Biggs age 76, of Wilber, NE (formerly of Ogallala, NE) died Sunday, October 15, 2023, peacefully at home while in hospice care surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Alliance, NE on February 27, 1947, Phyllis was the daughter of Charles and Lillabelle Grafford. She grew up in the Mullen, NE area and graduated from Mullen High School in 1965.&nbsp; She continued her education at Chadron State College from 1965 – 1966 and then moved to Alliance, NE.&nbsp; After her first daughter, Kristi, was born in June of 1968, she and her family moved to Ogallala.&nbsp; Ogallala is where she met Ronald Turner and married in February 1974.&nbsp; After his death that same year, her second daughter, Rona, was born.&nbsp; While working at the VFW, she met Paul Biggs.&nbsp; They married on June 16th, 1978.&nbsp; In 1979 they welcomed her 3rd daughter, Elaine.&nbsp;

Phyllis worked for 11 years in the Ogallala School lunch program from 1982 – 1993.&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1993, her family moved to Wilber, NE, and continued working in the school lunch program there until she retired in 2010.&nbsp;

One of the things Phyllis treasured most in life was her family. &nbsp;She cherished spending time with family and made a point of visiting with siblings, nieces, nephews, and others as much as she could.&nbsp; Her warm smile, kind words, and profound loyalty will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.&nbsp;

In addition to her family, Phyllis enjoyed researching and documenting family history, puzzles, games, and being a competitive card player where she loved to engage in a lively match using her sharp strategy and sense of humor at the table.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Paul Biggs, daughters, Kristi Grafford of Omaha, NE, Rona Boyd of Douglass, KS, and Elaine (Salvador) Regalado, of Wilber, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp; Siblings, Arnold (Helen) Grafford of Lewellen, Tom (Kathy) Grafford of Keystone, NE, John Grafford of Sutherland, NE and Nora (Steve) Deaver of Holyoke, CO.&nbsp; Eight grandchildren, M’Kailalyn (Lindsay), Grant, Kayleigh, Kennedy, Gavin, Ethan, Abygail, and JT, plus 3 bonus grandchildren, Lizzie, Miranda, and Brody. She also held a special place in her heart for every one of her nieces and nephews and their families.&nbsp;

Welcoming her to heaven are her parents, Charles and Lillabelle Grafford, father and mother-in-law Paul Sr. and Lucille Biggs, sister Sue George, brother-in-laws Roger Biggs and Ron Lightner, sister-in-law Mary Jean Lightner, granddaughter Lilliana Regalado, nephew Tyrel Grafford.&nbsp;

Visitation will be Thursday, October 19th, 2023 at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., the family will be greeting friends from 4 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Chapel.

Phyllis Dianne Biggs (1947-2023)

Wanda Fern Steffensmeier Mowry, 96 of Gering died 30 of Sept. 2023 in Nebraska City, Nebraska.

Wanda F. Steffensmeier was born 29, Oct. 1926 on her maternal grandfather’s wheat farm south of Oshkosh, Ne. Wanda grew up on her parent’s farm north of McGrew, NE and attended Snell #25 country school. Her parents were Ralph H. and Pearl Correll Steffensmeier. Wanda graduated from Bridgeport High School and Chadron State College. In 1982 she completed her M.S at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

Wanda married James D. Mowry 23, Dec. 1950 in Minatare, NE and to this union two daughters Stephanie Ann and Jan Leigh were born.

Wanda taught Home Economics and Physical Education at Bayard High School while Jim was in the military service. Together they owned and operated the J&amp;W Plumbing business in Bayard, NE. They later moved to Scottsbluff and Gering area. Wanda was a social worker for Scotts Bluff County for 5 years. She became the first supervisor for the Foster Grandparent Program. Her career led to the Cooperative Extension UNL in Scott Bluff County. Wanda received the outstanding Extension Educators Award in 1978 and the Creative Program Grant in 1984. She also served as President for the Nebraska State Home Economist Assoc. Wanda also received the Distinguished Service Award in 1988.

Since retiring Wanda continued her interest in family history and genealogy which started in 1969. She also enjoyed quilting, reading, swimming, volunteering, and traveling. Wanda served on several boards including North Platte Valley Museum Historical Society. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff and served as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and Session member. She was an active member in the Panhandle Quilt Guild and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her love was for her family and the many activities she did.

Survivors include daughters Stephanie Ann Shrader of Nebraska City, NE. and Jan Leigh (Douglas) Klein of Atwood KS. Grandsons, Ty (Josie) Shrader of Amarillo, TX., Heath (Ami) Klein of Atwood, KS. Five great grandchildren Jaxton, Kiefer and Teagan Shrader, Miles and Hudson Klein.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Jim, parents, brother Marvin, infant brother Raph Doyle, stepmother Gladyce Stott Steffensmeier and beloved grandson Cody Klein and several brothers- in- laws and sisters- in -laws.

Her memorial service will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff. At her request cremation has taken place. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or Legacy of the Plains Museum. Wanda Fern Steffensmeier Mowry (1926 - 2023)

Opal Louise Morris, 91 passed from this life Sunday, October 8, 2023 at her son’s home in Gering, Nebraska.

She was born on July 15, 1932 to Chris Arthur and Opal Elizabeth (McKim) Engelhaupt at O’Neill, Nebraska. She was the oldest of seven children.

Louise attended country school in Holt County for 1 ½ years, and for that ½ year she was taught by her aunt Annabell Shoemaker. She moved with her family into Chambers, Nebraska where she went to school until her dad moved them to Inman, Nebraska. The family lived there for 2 years before moving for a short time of 2 months to Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They then moved to Washington where she and her siblings went to school at Doty, Washington and her dad worked in the shipyards in Tacoma, Washington. This stay lasted only until the following June because of the distance between living in Doty and her dad driving to work. Louise’s family returned to Western Nebraska and lived in Gering where she attended both Lincoln and McKinley schools, as well as, junior high through 9th grade.

Louise married Clarence Eugene (Barney) Albertson on July 12, 1947 and to this union 2 children were born, a daughter Linda Louise and a son Michael Eugene. On February 20, 1973, Louise married Virgil Lee Morris. While her children were growing up, she worked at various jobs and then in 1976 went to work at WNCC for the next nine years. While working there she got her GED.

She is survived by her son Mike (Jeanine) Albertson, sisters Lois Wilkie, Jeanine Hall, Pat (Art) Deys and Sandra (Bill) Vaughan, sister-in-law Cheryl Engelhaupt, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  </figure>Opal Louise Morris, 91 passed from this life Sunday, October 8, 2023 at her son’s home in Gering, Nebraska.She was born on July 15, 1932 to Chris Arthur and Opal Elizabeth (McKim) Engelhaupt at O’Neill, Nebraska. She was the oldest of seven children.Louise attended country school in Holt County for 1 ½ years, and for that ½ year she was taught by her aunt Annabell Shoemaker. She moved with her family into Chambers, Nebraska where she went to school until her dad moved them to Inman, Nebraska. The family lived there for 2 years before moving for a short time of 2 months to Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They then moved to Washington where she and her siblings went to school at Doty, Washington and her dad worked in the shipyards in Tacoma, Washington. This stay lasted only until the following June because of the distance between living in Doty and her dad driving to work. Louise’s family returned to Western Nebraska and lived in Gering where she attended both Lincoln and McKinley schools, as well as, junior high through 9th grade.Louise married Clarence Eugene (Barney) Albertson on July 12, 1947 and to this union 2 children were born, a daughter Linda Louise and a son Michael Eugene. On February 20, 1973, Louise married Virgil Lee Morris. While her children were growing up, she worked at various jobs and then in 1976 went to work at WNCC for the next nine years. While working there she got her GED.She is survived by her son Mike (Jeanine) Albertson, sisters Lois Wilkie, Jeanine Hall, Pat (Art) Deys and Sandra (Bill) Vaughan, sister-in-law Cheryl Engelhaupt, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Opal Louise Morris (1932 - 2023)

Jules Sears, of Santa Rosa, California, beloved daughter of Joan and Gary (Doc Sears) DVM, was tragically killed along with her parents in an automobile accident just outside of Alliance, Nebraska on October 3rd, 2023.

Jules was born on April 19, 1966 in Bozeman, Montana. The family moved to Hyannis, Nebraska where her father opened a veterinary practice, specializing in large animals.

Jules attended the Hyannis Rural High School, where she achieved honors in Economics, Volleyball, Public Speaking, Educational Development, and Future Homemakers of America. She was a contestant in the Nebraska Teenworld Pageant, and was featured in several local newspapers. Jules graduated in 1984.

Jules went on to study at Colorado State University, where she pledged Kappa Delta, and was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi in 1985.

Jules moved to Minneapolis around 1986, and worked at First Avenue and The Depot, where she was exposed to a vast array of cutting edge contemporary music. These first club jobs cemented a life-long passion for music and production.

At First Avenue, she was introduced to Prince, Joe Cocker, Frank Zappa, GWAR, Metallica, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, The Replacements, Tina Turner, Wynton Marsalis, U2, Tracy Chapman, Ray Charles, Sonic Youth, Soul Asylum, and countless other brilliant national and international music acts.

In 1992, Jules relocated to San Francisco, and later graduated from New College with a bachelor’s degree of Arts in Humanities in 1996.

She continued to immerse her life in the world of music, bartending, and catering, working first with Club Deco, the Trocadero Transfer, and later with Bill Graham Presents. Work with BGP opened up many incredible venue opportunities, such as the Warfield Theater, The Fillmore, and The Shoreline Amphitheater, to name a few. Jules personally worked with The Rolling Stones and David Byrne of the Talking Heads.

Jules enjoyed working for the High Sierra Music Festival, and with the Health and Harmony Festival, where she produced a stage for Motema Music. She later worked with the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts.

Jules studied with Dick Sutphin, and received a degree in Hypnotherapy from Sutphin Seminars. She then earned a Certificate for Sound, Voice, and Music Healing from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 2010.

Jules founded Primal Peace Productions, and was a groundbreaking pioneer in the field of Sound Healing.

Jules assisted Jamie Goodman, LAC, in her acupuncture practice, first at the Mindful Body, SF, and later in private practice. She went on to work for Samual Wang, Ph.D., L.A.c. and Deidra Claiborne, L.A.c. at the Acupuncture Herbal Center in San Raphael. She also worked with Christine Ness-Hawks LAc, Dipl OM,MSTCM, at Thrive Acupuncture in Santa Rosa.

Jules used her knowledge of acupuncture and acupressure points with precisely placed acutonics tuning forks in a method she personally developed. This, in combination with crystal singing bowls, spoken mantras, ceremonial gongs, and bells created a truly unique Sound Healing experience.

Jules was a talented healer, a generous,loving, compassionate friend, and a light to all who were lucky enough to have been in her life.

She is survived by her beloved husband Darrell Lasky, brother Greg, her nieces Jennifer, Jessica, and Reagan, nephews Reilly, Riordan, and Reece, and sister-in-law Cynthia Cruz.

Helen M (LeBlanc) Britton, age 103 passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Mitchell Care Center, Mitchell, Nebraska.

There will be no services at this time as cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life and graveside services will be held at a later date. Helen was born August 12, 1920 in Lusk, Wyoming to Anna A. LeBlanc and was raised by her grandparents George and Emma LeBlanc (momma), south of Crawford, Nebraska. Helen married Ralph L. Britton March 19, 1938. From this union Terry R., Robert (Bob) D., Marlene J. and Margie M. were born.

Most of her life was in the Crawford area and on her farm north east of Crawford. There she raised Jersey cows and chickens. The cream was shipped away by rail and the chickens and eggs were sold locally. She raised a big garden and canned all the vegetables for winter. Helen was a real Pioneer woman working very hard, balancing a successful farm and ranch operation and raising 4 children.

The moon was a very important part of her life, as there was a time to plant, a time to weed and a tie to wean calves. Later in life, in the evenings she would sit in her swing and study the moon. She kept those thoughts to herself and that was her happy time.

Later, she worked at various jobs until finding her passion, nursing at the Crawford hospital and then at the Chadron hospital as an aide. She had to leave nursing due to a cancer diagnosis. After many successful treatments she was able to embark on another passion, camping. She loved camping and traveling. Some of her preferred destinations were the Black Hills of South Dakota, Chadron State Park, Lake McConaughy and der favorite place, Fort Robinson. She traveled many miles in her pickup camper, going on many adventures which always brought her much joy. Sometimes, she would camp in her own yard when she couldn’t travel out of town.

Helen is survived by her daughters Marlene Keane of Gering, NE and Margie (Glenn) Nelson of Mead, NE; daughter-in-law Virginia Britton of Kearney, NE; sister-in-law Betty Moffatt of Crawford, NE; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Carol loved CHEYENNE, music, dancing, bingo, listening to cumbias, and family chisme. She worked for the Indian Center of Scottsbluff for many years as a intake specialist. Enjoyed working with people and made many friends. She touched so many people's hearts when she passed she will be greatly missed.

Carols wishes were to be cremated and scattered in Cheyenne Wyoming.

Jane was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bayard. 

Jane took great pride in her gardening, canning, tortilla and enchilada making. She provided Bayard High School students with her delicious tacos after many Jr. High dances. 

Jane is survived by her daughters, Ellen Guerra, Sonia (Steve) Jambor, Odelia Magdanz of Lincoln; Sandra Baudler of Omaha; Rita (Steve) Hoesing of Colleyville, Texas; and her daughter-in-law Stephanie Hernandez, of Omaha; sisters Ruby Marquez of Gering; Irene Brabo of El Paso, Texas; 15 Grandchildren; 17 Great-Grandchildren; Nieces, Nephews and extended family members.

Jane Rodriguez Hernandez (1933 - 2023)

Tommy Lee Horse was born 10/11/1949 in Chadron, Nebraska to Robert E. and Mardra C. Horse.&nbsp; Tommy spent most of his life as a resident of his beloved community of Chadron, Nebraska.&nbsp; Tommy passed away at Monument Health in Rapid City, SD on 10/10/2023 due to unexpected and sudden cardiac arrest.&nbsp; Tommy had been residing most recently at Crestview Care Center in Chadron where he received excellent care.&nbsp; Tommy attended school in his earlier years in Chadron, Nebraska and Stapleton, Nebraska.&nbsp; At age 25, Tommy enlisted in the Army National Guard where he proudly served, retiring after 20 years.&nbsp; Tommy related some of his most interesting stories from his experiences in the National Guards based out of Chadron.&nbsp; He did some special forces training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and at Fort Ord, California.&nbsp; In 1989, he was deployed to Babenhausen, Germany.&nbsp; He was very proud of his service to his country.&nbsp; Tommy was a cook in various restaurants around Chadron, but was best known for delivering the Rapid City Journal and Chadron Record for many years.&nbsp; He made and held onto many friendships through his paper route.&nbsp; Tommy was preceded in death by his father Robert E. Horse, brother Robert M. Horse, nephew Michael Horse, nephews Jared and Jesse Corlett.&nbsp; Tommy is survived by his mother Mardra C. Horse, sister Virginia (Dennis) Salisbury, brother Brad Horse, many nephews and nieces as well as great nephews and nieces.&nbsp; He will be missed by all of his family as well as many friends.

 </figure>Tommy Lee Horse was born 10/11/1949 in Chadron, Nebraska to Robert E. and Mardra C. Horse.&nbsp; Tommy spent most of his life as a resident of his beloved community of Chadron, Nebraska.&nbsp; Tommy passed away at Monument Health in Rapid City, SD on 10/10/2023 due to unexpected and sudden cardiac arrest.&nbsp; Tommy had been residing most recently at Crestview Care Center in Chadron where he received excellent care.&nbsp; Tommy attended school in his earlier years in Chadron, Nebraska and Stapleton, Nebraska.&nbsp; At age 25, Tommy enlisted in the Army National Guard where he proudly served, retiring after 20 years.&nbsp; Tommy related some of his most interesting stories from his experiences in the National Guards based out of Chadron.&nbsp; He did some special forces training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and at Fort Ord, California.&nbsp; In 1989, he was deployed to Babenhausen, Germany.&nbsp; He was very proud of his service to his country.&nbsp; Tommy was a cook in various restaurants around Chadron, but was best known for delivering the Rapid City Journal and Chadron Record for many years.&nbsp; He made and held onto many friendships through his paper route.&nbsp; Tommy was preceded in death by his father Robert E. Horse, brother Robert M. Horse, nephew Michael Horse, nephews Jared and Jesse Corlett.&nbsp; Tommy is survived by his mother Mardra C. Horse, sister Virginia (Dennis) Salisbury, brother Brad Horse, many nephews and nieces as well as great nephews and nieces.&nbsp; He will be missed by all of his family as well as many friends.

Kevin James Kirk passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in Philip, SD. Kevin was born January 11, 1971, in Gordon, NE, to parents John (Jack) W. Kirk and Essie M. Kirk-White Face.

Kevin initially grew up in Pine Ridge, SD, then moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where he graduated from O’Gorman High School in 1989. Upon graduation, he moved to Fremont, California, to enjoy the warmer weather and to attend Ohlone College. Kevin was involved in multiple clubs and organizations within the college and was recognized for his contributions, most notably his Senator position with the Associated Students of Ohlone College for two consecutive years. He graduated with his Associate of Arts degree in 1994 and continued his education at San Jose State University, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work in May 1998.

Commitment to his community while attending school led Kevin to log hundreds of volunteer hours for the cities of Fremont, Hayward, and San Leandro, CA. Kevin worked as a social worker in Fremont, CA, for a short time and later went to work at Ohlone College for a number of years as a media specialist helping students much like himself, before retiring in 2014.

Kevin lived with several disabilities and health issues throughout his life. His determination and perseverance were an inspiration to the rest of us as he learned to overcome these challenges. However, due to declining health, he returned home to South Dakota and resided at the Bennett County Nursing Home in Martin, SD.

Kevin will be deeply missed. The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff for the care he received while residing at the Bennett County Nursing Home and most recently the Kadoka Nursing Home.

Kevin is survived by his father John W. (Jack) Kirk, his mother Essie M. Kirk-White Face, brother Brian (Jean) Kirk, sisters Mary Kirk, Shawn (Brett) Rigg, Erin (Jay) Selby, Becki (Jeremy) Dixon and Megan White Face and many nieces and nephews. Merlyn K. “Mert” Miller, age 83, of Dalton, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023, in Bridgeport, NE. Mert was born on January 30, 1940 to his late parents Herman Alvin and Arlene Marie (Schmale) Miller. He was a graduate of Sidney High School and served in the National Guard for 12 years achieving the rank of Sargent 1st Class. He loved all aspects of the agricultural life and worked with his dad at Miller Implement for several years and Case Power Equipment as a mechanic and salesman. He later joined his father working on the farm east of Gurley, NE where he lived the remainder of his life with his wife and children, sharing his love of farming with his son Scott. Mert married the love of his life, Mary Jane Oliverius on July 16, 1970 in Sidney, NE. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to all and shared his infectious smile and wit with any and all he encountered. There was not a person on this earth he wouldn’t talk to or offer a helping hand. He enjoyed many hobbies, never afraid to try something new, from cars, scuba diving in the Bahamas and being a scuba instructor, flying a single engine plane, building and flying model airplanes, coaching little league baseball, teaching his kids and grandkids the value of hunting and fishing, boating and target shooting. He was also an avid photographer. If he wasn’t out on his boat, or cleaning his guns, he was shopping for the next best gadget, fishing lure, gun, tool or kitchen cookware.

Mert enjoyed spending time telling the worst dad jokes and reminiscing on the many stories of his past adventures.

Luis “Rico” Oliveros, 71, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away October 4, 2023. He was born January 1, 1952, to Luis and Anita Oliveros.

He is survived by wife, Lori; children, Melissa (Ryan) Morrow, Jacqueline (Andrew) Lloyd, and Louis (Kaitlyn) Oliveros; grandchildren, Tyson, Kennedy, Winslet, and Nirvana; mom, Anita Oliveros; siblings, Cecelia “CeCe” (Doug) Miller; Edward “Eddie” Oliveros; Alex Oliveros; John “Henry” (Deb) Oliveros; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceded in death by his brother and father, Luis; beloved animals, Peaches, Mickey, and DanMarino.

Rico embraced life with zeal and a zest for adventure. His multifaceted interests and unwavering commitment to his loved ones defined him in many ways.

A dedicated cyclist, Rico could often be found pedaling down the streets, combining his love for cycling with the thrill of the open road. Rico was a die-hard fan of the Huskers, Raiders, and Celtics. He never missed a game, even when a heartbreaking loss was inevitable.

Rico was a devout member of the Catholic Church and found solace and strength in his faith.

He was a dedicated father and took an active part in his children’s lives. He coached their basketball teams with a heart full of pride and made everlasting memories. Rico’s love for the game extended beyond his family as he generously shared his coaching expertise with the girls’ basketball team at St. Agnes High School in Alliance, NE.

For 32 years, Rico dedicated himself to a career at BNSF Railroad, showing unwavering commitment throughout his service.

His love for classic automobiles, especially his 1929 Ford Model A hot rod, was evident in every detail. Rico had an adventurous spirit and never wanted to miss out on any opportunity to create lasting memories.

Known for his ornery sense of humor and quick wit, Rico could light up a room with his presence. His favorite saunas infused with eucalyptus provided moments of relaxation and reflection.

Rico will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life lived to the fullest.

Luis “Rico” Oliveros (1952 - 2023)

Joan Irene (Lang) Sears, 79, of Hyannis, Nebraska, passed away October 3, 2023, near Alliance as the result of a vehicle accident that also claimed the lives of her husband, Dr. Gary Sears, 82, and daughter Julie Rebecca (Darrell Lasky) Sears, 57.

Joan was born December 21, 1943, in New Jersey to Fred and Irene Lang. The family moved to Englewood, Colorado in 1951. Joan attended Colorado State University (CSU), where she met and married Gary shortly after graduating with honors with a degree in microbiology and medical technology.

While attending CSU, Joan was active in Kappa Gamma Sorority (past president), the Mortar Board, the Angel Flight (women’s) ROTC organization, among other campus groups. The grant-funded research during her senior year at CSU earned her recognition for break-through evidence and understanding of crown gall disease in plants as being virus-caused. Her experiments in exposing tomato plants to bacteria and virus cultures revealed the viral impacts.

Her intended research career after graduation was redirected when she married Gary, also recently graduated from veterinary school. They spent early years in Montana where Gary worked at various large animal clinics before they moved to the Nebraska Sandhills where he set up practice. Joan applied her many talents to whatever needed done while raising their two children, which included working in the business as bookkeeper, receptionist, occasional surgical assistant and – using her medical tech training – dosage consults when clients needed guidance and Gary was out on calls.

Joan was an active member of the All-Saints Altar Society in Hyannis, and volunteered countless hours in local organizations such as 4-H. She traveled hundreds of miles serving as a judge at dog shows throughout the region and was well known for the prodigious garden where she grew, canned and froze vegetables each year, including fermented successes with select varieties of grapes. She tried her hand at raising various animals, including rabbits and at least one pig.

She devoted pleasure time to knitting, playing bridge with her club, and dancing with her college sweetheart whenever they had the chance. Joan’s love of animals fueled an endless interest in all aspects of growing and caring for all living things.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Irene Lang. Joan is survived by son Greg (Jamie) of Rocklin, California and their children Reilly, Riordan, Reece and Raegan; son-in-law Darrel Lasky of Santa Rosa, California, granddaughters Jennifer and Jessica Luong Duong of Portland, Oregon, cousins Ken and Alan Schuster of New Jersey, and cousin Ed Sawicki of Santa Clara, California.&nbsp;&nbsp; Bates-Gould Funeral Home, Alliance, is handling final arrangements.

Joan Irene (Lang) Sears (1943 - 2023)

Gary L. Sears, DVM, 82, passed away near Alliance, Nebraska on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. Joan, his wife of more than 58 years and daughter Julie (Darrell Lasky) Sears, 57, perished at the same time as Gary in a car accident.&nbsp;

Gary was born in Bridgeport on March 7, 1941, a few minutes after his twin sister Gail Walsh and grew up near Lisco where his father was manager of the South Unit of the Rush Creek Land &amp; Livestock ranch.&nbsp; He attended high school in Oshkosh, and then attended the CSU School of Veterinary Medicine in Ft. Collins, Colorado.&nbsp; In 1965, he graduated from veterinary school, married his college sweetheart, Joan, and they headed off to Montana for his first veterinary job.&nbsp; In 1967, Gary &amp; Joan moved to Hyannis and established Hyannis Veterinary Service which continues to thrive to this day.&nbsp; In addition to more than 40 years of service to area ranchers and their animals, Gary was active in service to the community, including stints on the Grant County Fair board, School Board and about anything else that needed done.&nbsp; Gary retired (mostly) in 2009 after selling the practice to Dr. Bill Baker and Dr. Jon Werth.&nbsp; Gary and Joan continued to live in Hyannis since that time.

Gary was known as an excellent veterinarian (mainly cattle &amp; cattle ranching) and one who was well equipped with a wry sense of humor, love of practical jokes, and a strong work ethic.&nbsp; He was widely loved and respected throughout the area.&nbsp; He learned to fly in his early years in Hyannis to help meet time demands, frequently hopping from ranch to ranch in his Piper Cub and/or Tri-Pacer.&nbsp; Tales of his practical jokes, his go-the-extra-mile in service of his friends and clients, the many not-so-routine encounters with a cow and/or cowhand, a few fishing stories, and of course an occasional airplane story are legendary.&nbsp;

One of the highlights of his career was his induction into the Nebraska Sandhills Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2019.&nbsp; Gary never considered himself that much of a true cowboy, but he knew and served a whole lot of them.&nbsp; There is a nice article about him that can be found at this site:&nbsp; Gary L “Doc”. Collins, Colorado.&nbsp; In 1965, he graduated from veterinary school, married his college sweetheart, Joan, and they headed off to Montana for his first veterinary job.&nbsp; In 1967, Gary &amp; Joan moved to Hyannis and established Hyannis Veterinary Service which continues to thrive to this day.&nbsp; In addition to more than 40 years of service to area ranchers and their animals, Gary was active in service to the community, including stints on the Grant County Fair board, School Board and about anything else that needed done.&nbsp; Gary retired (mostly) in 2009 after selling the practice to Dr. Bill Baker and Dr. Jon Werth.&nbsp; Gary and Joan continued to live in Hyannis since that time.Gary was known as an excellent veterinarian (mainly cattle &amp; cattle ranching) and one who was well equipped with a wry sense of humor, love of practical jokes, and a strong work ethic.&nbsp; He was widely loved and respected throughout the area.&nbsp; He learned to fly in his early years in Hyannis to help meet time demands, frequently hopping from ranch to ranch in his Piper Cub and/or Tri-Pacer.&nbsp; Tales of his practical jokes, his go-the-extra-mile in service of his friends and clients, the many not-so-routine encounters with a cow and/or cowhand, a few fishing stories, and of course an occasional airplane story are legendary.&nbsp;One of the highlights of his career was his induction into the Nebraska Sandhills Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2019.&nbsp; Gary never considered himself that much of a true cowboy, but he knew and served a whole lot of them.&nbsp; There is a nice article about him that can be found at this site:&nbsp; Gary L “Doc”. Gary L. Sears, DVM (1941 - 2023)

Sidney Dean Underwood age 64, passed away on October 5th, 2023, at Regional West Medical Center. He was born in Alliance, NE to Burr Eugene and Jessie Lea (Hopkins) Underwood on July 19, 1959.&nbsp; Sid graduated from Alliance High School in 1979 and went on to pursue a degree in Diesel Mechanics from Laramie Wyoming Technical Institute.&nbsp; He was employed at Farmers Coop in Hemingford, NE and retired from Parker Hannifin, working as a maintenance technician for 22 years.

Sid was a member of the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department and the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department, where he received recognition of distinction for his years of service. In his free time, he enjoyed “tinkering” with anything that had an engine, shooting his collection of firearms and was a proud member of National Rifle Association (NRA). Gardening was also a hobby that he liked doing.&nbsp;&nbsp; In his retirement, he enjoyed walking and always offered a smile and wave. “Uncle Sid” will be dearly missed for being one of the biggest kids at family gatherings: helping hide Easter eggs, being ready to open the first Christmas present and joking with all.&nbsp; Sid had the gift of being resilient in “making each day count” and pushing through many challenges that life brought his way.

Sidney Dean Underwood (1959 - 2023)

Randall Lee Raymer was born April 16, 1968 to Gerald Lee and Pattie Lee Raymer in Chadron NE. He passed away at home in Alliance on Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Randy grew up in Oshkosh NE, attending grade school and high school there. His family was deeply involved in The Wesleyan Church, where, at the age of 7 or 8, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord. At that young age, he decided to be baptized in the cold, fast running waters of Blue Creek, where the rest of his family were baptized. He was involved in Christian Youth Crusaders and the teen group of the church.

Throughout high school he was faithful to help when needed at the family business for no pay. He learned a lot about autobody and mechanical work. When he dented his father’s pickup, he was required to fix it. He worked summers at Ash Hollow State Park.

He especially enjoyed playing football at Garden County High School and was awarded a Dean’s Scholarship to Bethany College in Lindsborg KS. He later attended school at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He intended to become a Medical Technologist.

He later moved to Fort Collins CO where he became an auto glass installer. He became involved in the International Practical Shooting Confederation and spent much time helping to develop the local shooting range in Weld County where he served on the board and was elected president for a time. He achieved the level of Master Shooter and traveled to many competitions. He was a Certified Range Officer and organized and officiated many meets. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

On August 15, 2008, he married his one and only true love, Berit, and along with her two children, built a home for them in Johnstown CO where they lived for seven years.

In 2015 Randy moved to Alliance NE. He worked tirelessly around his parents’ home, keeping the lawn and garden in good shape, fixing sprinklers, chopping out trees, building fence, doing mechanical work and always cleaning out the shop. He was an astute penny pincher and would spend hours fixing a broken piece instead of buying new. He often travelled to Oshkosh to help his Uncle Terry and cousin Chad in their endless projects.

His pride and joy was his rock crawling Jeep that he kept in pristine condition and “the beast”, an old Suburban that he fixed up. He spent many hours refurbishing the camper which he used often for hunting and fishing.

Randy had a fierce love for his father and took him fishing and hunting for his dad’s first and only turkey trophy. Randy dutifully fixed him for the next Thanksgiving dinner.

He spent the last few months working at Emerson Elementary School in Alliance as custodian along with his sister Christina. He was happy in his work and felt welcome and appreciated using his many talents in repair and construction. He was in a very good place.

Our lives will never be the same without Randy. Frank Bosanco, 63 of Melbeta, Nebraska passed away September 27, 2023 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Frank was born on March 7, 1960 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Robert Bosanco and Dorothy Haerer. He married Tonia McDermed on August 4, 1998 in Fort Myers Beach, Florida and made their home in Melbeta, Nebraska.

Frank was in the National Guard from 1977-1979.

Survivors include his wife Tonia Bosanco; sister Judy Bosanco; brother Joe Bosanco; nephew Jeffrey Millage; nieces Briget Millage Hatheway, Valerie Myers, Hope Jacobs and Care Selvius and mother-in-law Michelle Ponder.

LeRoy Kevin Steele, 78, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away at his home on Monday, September 18, 2023. Cremation has taken place in accordance with LeRoy’s wishes. LeRoy was born November 10, 1944, in New Salem, North Dakota to Vernon and Opal (Middlesteader) Steele. He enlisted with the United States Navy following high school and served for three years.

LeRoy met the love of his life, Lilly Steele, and the two married on July 11, 1988, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

He worked and retired as a laborer in the laborer’s union. He loved traveling and enjoying the sights. LeRoy was an avid NASCAR fanatic and liked going to the races. He was very athletic and enjoyed playing many sports in his younger years.

LeRoy was a man who was very much appreciative of all those who assisted him and his wife in their final years. Although he did not often express his feelings, they were there. To those who understand this, be proud that you eased them both.

Survivors include his children, grandchildren, friends, and loved ones.

Funeral services for Gary Galey, 84, a long-time resident of Crawford, Nebraska will held at 10:30am, Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Christ Community Church in Crawford, with Pastor Steve Mallory officiating. Music will be provided by Tim Bosak. Burial will be at the Crawford Cemetery.

He died September 27, 2023 at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, where he had been a resident for a short time.

Garold “Gary” Gene Galey was born October 6, 1938 to James Thomas and Eva (Cunningham) Galey in Chadron, Nebraska. The family farmed east of Chadron for several years; he and his older brothers Tom, Jr., Bob, and Bud, attended school in Chadron until the family relocated to Whitney in 1954. He then attended Crawford High School, following which he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving most of his four-year tour (1956-1960) aboard the heavy cruiser USS Macon with the Atlantic Fleet and Mediterranean.

Following his release from active duty, he married Zoleta Hamaker on July 29th, 1960 in Scottsbluff. They made their home in Crawford, where they raised two boys: Garold “Gene” and Jay Allen. Gary worked for the Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company for 36 years. During those years, he and Zoleta also owned and operated “Galey’s Little Grocery Store” for 10 years. After retiring from Kansas-Nebraska, Gary established “Galey Repair,” installing and repairing heating, air conditioning, and other appliances for residents in and around the Crawford region. He finally retired at age 83.

Throughout his career, Gary was active in community affairs. He served on the Crawford Hospital Board, School Board, and was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department. He was also very active in the Crawford Jaycees. He and Zoleta enjoyed winter visits to Arizona, where Gary was able to pursue his love of golf. Gary spent a lot of time with his sons Gene and Jay with school activities, hunting, fishing, sports, and riding motorcycles. He and Zoleta also enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, taking them on vacation excursions during their summers.

Gary is survived by his son, Jay (Meloni) of Riverton, WY; brother Bob (Naomi), Whitney, NE; sisters Margaret Galey, Rapid City, SD; and Karen (Larry) Miller Spearfish, SD; sister-in-law Kay Galey, Chadron, NE. Four grandchildren: Dezarae Brandt (Jason) of Gering, NE; Chance (Jenna) of Bloomfield, CO; Jaycy of Omaha, NE; and Thomas James “TJ” (Adair) of Riverton, WY. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins. Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Zoleta, and son, Gary Gene; his parents, two brothers, Tom and Bud, and one sister-in-law, Dorothy (Tom) Galey.

Gary Galey (1938 - 2023)

Gerald Max Denton, 87, passed away at his home on the Denton homestead and was welcomed into the Heavenly Fathers arms on September 29, 2023. Gerald was born on June 21st 1936 to Glenn E. Denton and Georgia (Hunter) in the house built by John W. &amp; Rachel Denton that Ron and Kim Denton currently reside in. Gerald attended Craven Creek School and graduated from Rushville High School in 1954. He worked for several different neighbors in the Whiteclay community after high school before marrying the love of his life, Alice (Sager) on August 3, 1958. They welcomed their first child, Ronald Gerald in 1959, Connie Lee in 1960 and Angel Lisa Tail joined the family in 1971. Gerald and Alice bought the original Fred Denton homestead in fall of 1963 and continued to work the family ranch until the day of his passing. There have been 7 generations of Denton’s continuing on the ranch life. Gerald had a strong faith in the Lord and was a lifetime member of the Extension Church in Whiteclay, Nebraska. He served on the church board and as the treasurer for most of his adult life. Gerald never missed an opportunity to share the Lord with the people he encountered. He was encouraging and inspirational to all who knew him. Gerald loved and doted on all his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to attend the the events. Being a big kid himself, he was always up for a game of baseball, cards, horsie rides, sleepovers, and would play the piano on their request. He never turned down extra dessert. He was on the school board Craven Creek District 79 and Sunshine Bible Academy in Miller, SD and was an active member of the National Wild Turkey Federation for Sheridan County.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 65 years Alice Sager Denton, Son Ronald (Kim) of Rushville, NE, daughter Angel Denton Bauman of Pine Ridge, SD, son-in-law Mark Tyler of Chadron, Nebraska and son-in-law Bill Conner. Grandchildren: Travis (Karena), Nickole (DJ) Lyon, ALanna Whiting, Chance (Megan), Lawrence (Jojo), Gatlin (Kelsie), Tyrel (Cassie), Slayde (Alexa) Denton, Tania Conner (Lucas) Isaman, Tiffany Conner (Billy) Mowery, Cody Conner, Tasha Conner (Josh) Fligge, Lucy Bauman, and Chris (Ivonne)Tyler. Gerald is preceded in death by his father Glenn E. Denton and mother Georgia Denton Lehman, His stepfather Nick Lehman, stepmother Joyce Denton, brother Arthur Denton, sister Mildred Denton Frohman, daughter Connie Denton Conner Tyler, grandson-in-law Joe Whiting, and great granddaughter Angel Lyon.

Services will be Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 2pm at the Extension Community Chapel, 8557 450th Lane, Whiteclay, NE.&nbsp;

 </figure>Gerald Max Denton, 87, passed away at his home on the Denton homestead and was welcomed into the Heavenly Fathers arms on September 29, 2023. Gerald was born on June 21st 1936 to Glenn E. Denton and Georgia (Hunter) in the house built by John W. &amp; Rachel Denton that Ron and Kim Denton currently reside in. Gerald attended Craven Creek School and graduated from Rushville High School in 1954. He worked for several different neighbors in the Whiteclay community after high school before marrying the love of his life, Alice (Sager) on August 3, 1958. They welcomed their first child, Ronald Gerald in 1959, Connie Lee in 1960 and Angel Lisa Tail joined the family in 1971. Gerald and Alice bought the original Fred Denton homestead in fall of 1963 and continued to work the family ranch until the day of his passing. There have been 7 generations of Denton’s continuing on the ranch life. Gerald had a strong faith in the Lord and was a lifetime member of the Extension Church in Whiteclay, Nebraska. He served on the church board and as the treasurer for most of his adult life. Gerald never missed an opportunity to share the Lord with the people he encountered. He was encouraging and inspirational to all who knew him. Gerald loved and doted on all his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to attend the the events. Being a big kid himself, he was always up for a game of baseball, cards, horsie rides, sleepovers, and would play the piano on their request. He never turned down extra dessert. He was on the school board Craven Creek District 79 and Sunshine Bible Academy in Miller, SD and was an active member of the National Wild Turkey Federation for Sheridan County. Gerald is survived by his wife of 65 years Alice Sager Denton, Son Ronald (Kim) of Rushville, NE, daughter Angel Denton Bauman of Pine Ridge, SD, son-in-law Mark Tyler of Chadron, Nebraska and son-in-law Bill Conner. Grandchildren: Travis (Karena), Nickole (DJ) Lyon, ALanna Whiting, Chance (Megan), Lawrence (Jojo), Gatlin (Kelsie), Tyrel (Cassie), Slayde (Alexa) Denton, Tania Conner (Lucas) Isaman, Tiffany Conner (Billy) Mowery, Cody Conner, Tasha Conner (Josh) Fligge, Lucy Bauman, and Chris (Ivonne)Tyler. Harold Becker, 95, of Alliance, NE, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Regional West Hospital in Scottsbluff.

Harold was born on January 13, 1928, to Dave and Eva Becker. &nbsp;He attended schools in the Scottsbluff area, and then joined the Navy. &nbsp;After discharge, he married Esther Reichert, and they had three children: &nbsp;Larry, Linda and Barbara. &nbsp;

Harold and his family farmed south of Hemingford, before retiring to nearby Alliance. &nbsp;He enjoyed rodeos and old westerns on TV. &nbsp;The Alliance Senior Center provided hours of companionship as well as daily nourishment.

Harold is survived by his son, Larry, of Alliance, and daughter, Linda, of Greeley, CO. &nbsp;Linda and Arlin Sample parented his two grandchildren: Ivy (Brian) Shelmadine and Cory (Kara) Sample. &nbsp;The five great grandchildren are Jackson, Alexis, Arya and Mia Shelmadine of Alliance, and Kadence Sample of Greeley.
