William B. “Bill” Adam, 82, died Friday, October 28, 2022 at his home north of Ashby.

Bill was born October 7, 1940 in Alliance, Nebraska to Bernard B. and Marie P. (Nissen) Adam.

Bill attended North Ashby Country School through 2nd grade, then went onto Ashby School through 8th&nbsp;grade, and graduated from Hyannis High School in 1958.&nbsp;&nbsp;Following graduation, Bill worked on the ranch before being drafted into the United States Army in 1963.&nbsp; Following his service, was honorably discharged in 1965 and returned to work on the ranch where he spent the rest of his life.

Bill was a 57 year member of the American Legion Post No. 57.&nbsp; He was also a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Master Mason.&nbsp; He liked old cars and enjoyed going to car shows when possible.

He is survived by his sister, Charlene “Sherry” Craig of Hyannis; his nephews, Larry (Milly) Craig of Hemingford, Randy (Amber) Craig of Alliance and Willie Craig of Kearney; and many great nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance.&nbsp; Mr. Greg White will officiate.

Memorials may be given to the Grant County Fire and Rescue Unit, 102 S. Grant Ave.,&nbsp;P.O. Box 330, Hyannis, Nebraska, 69350.

William B. 'Bill' Adam (1940 - 2022)

Rick William Benda, 71, of Alliance, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at home after battling cancer. Rick was born on August 12, 1951, in Alliance, Nebraska to William and Beverly (Jorgensen) Benda. Raised in Nebraska, Rick was a 1969 graduate of Hemingford High School. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska, Kearney, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology. He was a Speech Pathologist at the schools of Howells, Clarkson, Leigh, and Humphrey, Nebraska for 3 years. While teaching, he continued working toward his master’s degree at Wayne State College before moving home to farm.

Rick calls Hemingford his home. He lived and farmed there for 67 years before moving to Alliance, Nebraska.

Every morning he would start his day with daily devotions and prayer and from there his day would begin. Rick was always very goal oriented. His most important goal was to provide and protect his family. It was also important to him that he be a “good steward of the land.”

Rick devoted his life to being a husband, devoted father, and grandfather. He adored his wife, Gina, his children, Brian, Jeff, Matthew, Kristine and his eight amazing, talented, and smart (of course) grandchildren, Aiden, Austin, Zoey, Alexa, Karson, Kinley, Jacob, and Kate.

Rick is survived by his wife, Gina Bates Benda; his children, Brian (Kim), Matthew (Kristen), Kristine Sole; daughter-in-law, (Kali) and his eight amazing, talented, and smart (of course) grandchildren, Aiden, Austin, Zoey, Alexa, Karson, Kinley, Jacob, and Kate. He is also survived by his sisters, Cheryl (Edwin) Harms and Jody (Doug) Osler; and many special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

His son Jeffrey Scott Benda tragically preceded him in death on Thanksgiving Day, 2021.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 5th, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Alliance Berean Church. Pastor Glenn Johnson will officiate.&nbsp; The family will receive guests following the service from 12-2 at the West Side Event Center (formerly Alliance Country Club).

Rick William Benda (1951 - 2022)

Richard Allen Geist, 81, died Friday, October 28, 2022 at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance.

Richard was born on February 15, 1941 in Ainsworth, Nebraska to Jeremiah Clifford Geist and Alta Maxine (Casteel) Geist. He graduated in 1958 from Hyannis High School and worked in the area after graduation. Richard hired on to the railroad in 1963, started as a conductor with the Burlington and worked most of his career as a brakeman. He retired after 39 years of service in 2002. He was active in the union and served as local chairman. Richard enjoyed racing horses in the Sandhills and playing softball in his younger years. He also liked to take his family in the camper on fishing trips to the Sandpits and lakes around the area, including trips to Saskatchewan, Canada. Richard wasn’t much of a dancer but loved going to concerts with his wife, Rae Anne, and spending time (and money) at the casino at Rosebud. Richard worked hard so he could provide for his family and have time to spend evening’s playing cards with friends and family. Richard loved going to support his sons’ sports and activities when he wasn’t working. Richard was a devoted husband, son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.

Richard is survived by his wife, Rae Anne (Rohrbouck) Geist, sons Rod Geist and his wife Teri (Herman) Geist, of Omaha, NE; Rich Geist of Salem, OR; and Russ Geist and his wife Rhonda (Hammond) Geist of Las Vegas, NV; by seven grandchildren, Zach Geist and his wife Caroline, Noah Geist, Seth Geist and his wife Madison, Bethany (Geist) Bohne and her husband Trent, Nick Geist, Shad Geist, and Sam Geist; and by two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Delores M. (Geist) Evans, and brother, Clifford M. “Butch” McIntosh, and brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeremiah Clifford Geist and Alta Maxine (Casteel) McIntosh.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.&nbsp; Mr. Greg Carter will officiate.&nbsp; A luncheon will follow the service at the Alliance Eagles Club.

Timothy John Barnes, Jr., 67, died Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport.

He was born January 13, 1955 in Alliance, Nebraska to Timothy J. and Corrine M. (Lone Wolf) Barnes.

He and his siblings grew up in Alliance where he attended school and received his GED in 1987.&nbsp; On January 6, 1989 he married Christina Gayle Puckett in Sidney, Nebraska.&nbsp; To this union three children were born, Corrine Barnes, Timothy III (Johnna) Barnes and Douglas Barnes, all of Alliance.

He worked several service jobs in Alliance before retiring at the age of 62.&nbsp; He had quit working prior to that due to health.

He loved all of his children and grandchildren, as well as his brother, sister and extended family members.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife, their children, his grandchildren, his daughter-in-law, and extended family.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, his grandparents, his parents, aunts, uncles, brother, sister and nieces and nephews.

A visitation with the family present will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at the Bates-Gould Chapel from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.&nbsp; Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Indian Mission-Church of God.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; Pastor Don Mink and Linda Abold will officiate.

Timothy John Barnes, Jr. (1955 - 2022)

Ralph W. Phelps, 79, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 21, 2022, at Regional West Medical Center.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, October 29, 2022, First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Pastor Craig will be officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.

Ralph was born May 22, 1943, in Laramie, Wyoming to Ralph and Helen Phelps. After living for a short while in Riverton and Wheatland, Wyoming, the family moved to Torrington, Wyoming where Ralph completed his schooling, graduating from Torrington High.

Growing up, Ralph enjoyed spending his summers with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He loved spending time with extended family, as being an only child was often lonely. These summers spent in Riverton molded him into the wonderful man that he was.

After graduation, he attended nursing school at West Nebraska School of Nursing in Scottsbluff. Once his nursing training was completed, he enlisted in the US Army where he completed Officer’s training at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.

Ralph and Joi (Schmunk) were married in Gering, Nebraska on Oct. 27, 1965, the young couple moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky, where their first daughter, Jill was born.

After an honorable discharge from the army, the family moved to Rochester, Minnesota where Ralph received his training for CRNA from the Mayo Clinic school of Anesthesia. Upon his graduation, the family moved back to Scottsbluff, Nebraska where their second daughter, Amy was born.

Ralph truly loved being an anesthetist. He started in the surgery unit at St. Mary’s in Scottsbluff and his career spanned over 50 years between West Nebraska General Hospital and Regional West Medical Center.

Ralph enjoyed backpacking and fishing in Lander, Wyoming, and overall, fishing was a great passion for him all throughout his life.

Ralph was an award-winning gardener. He enjoyed being outdoors, watching things grow, taking care of them and making his yard more beautiful through hard work and love.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a Shriner, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, and the American Legion.

What he most loved, was spending time with his family and friends, helping neighbors, tending his garden, and spoiling his beloved dog, Piper.

Ralph is survived by his wife Joi of 57 years, his daughters Jill (Kevin) Hayes, Ethan and Carsen of Gillet, Wisconsin. Amy (Scott) Cloudy, Gabrielle, Xander, Josie, and Ruby of Boerne, Texas. Scotty (Nicole) of Uvalde, Texas.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jackie Henggeler of Ft. Morgan, Colorado, aunt Roasalee Blumenshine of Ft. Collins, Colorado, many cousins, co-workers, neighbors, and friends.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, in-laws, and many extended loved ones.

Ralph W. Phelps (1943 - 2022)

Roberta “Bobbie” Lee Johnson, 85, of Scottsbluff, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct 24, 2022, at The Residency Care Center. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, Oct 28, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Craig Collins officiating. Casual attire is requested. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. During this time Bobbie was also named Miss Scottsbluff, an honor she always treasured. In 1956 Bobbie married Frank Priest. Frank and Bobbie had 2 children, Corey Francis and Tamra Lynn. They made their home in Scottsbluff until 1966 when they divorced. Through a blind date, Bobbie met Roland Deines. Bobbie with her kids, Corey and Tammy, joined Roland's family in 1967 and lived on the family farm in Cedar Canyon area. They had a son William Wallace Deines in 1968. In 1993 they moved from the farm to Scottsbluff. Roland passed away in April of 1995. Through her church activities she always mentioned how she and a special someone would sit together at the Methodist Church most Sundays. That special someone was Dr. Kenneth Johnson. In 2000 they were married and continued living in Scottsbluff. In 2012 they moved to the Residency and have always said it was the best move they made. Bobbie always enjoyed golfing, traveling, church, cooking and Bible studies until she developed dementia. In 2016 she was moved to the care center where she remained. Bobbie always enjoyed social gatherings and family holidays. Every Christmas she made the best rye bread, as was taught to her from Aunt Marie Helzer over the years (and yes it took years as the recipe had never been written down). She is survived by her husband Kenneth Johnson, her daughter Tammy Harms, son Bill (Karen) Deines, stepsons David, Paul (Anne) and Steven (Danielle) Johnson and grandchildren Lindsay (Richard) Rochlitz, Trevor Harms, Will Deines (fiancé Amberly), Paul Johnson, Katharine Johnson, Anneliese Johnson and sister-in-law Sandra Pepper. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Frank Priest and Roland Deines, her sisters Charlotte Thieman, Nelda Bottom, Beverlee Fox, sister-in-law Norma Jean Schwartzkopf and brothers-in-law Chuck Thieman, Bill Bottom, Jack Fox, Jack Pepper and Curt Schwartzkopf. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care that was provided to our dear wife and mom from the Care Center nurses and staff.&nbsp;&nbsp;

 </figure>Roberta “Bobbie” Lee Johnson, 85, of Scottsbluff, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct 24, 2022, at The Residency Care Center. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, Oct 28, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Craig Collins officiating. Casual attire is requested. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Bobbie’s honor be made in care of the church or The Residency Scholarship Fund. Bobbie was born to Lewis and Roberta Wallace on October 9, 1937, in Scottsbluff, NE. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1955. During this time Bobbie was also named Miss Scottsbluff, an honor she always treasured. In 1956 Bobbie married Frank Priest. Frank and Bobbie had 2 children, Corey Francis and Tamra Lynn. They made their home in Scottsbluff until 1966 when they divorced. Through a blind date, Bobbie met Roland Deines. Bobbie with her kids, Corey and Tammy, joined Roland's family in 1967 and lived on the family farm in Cedar Canyon area. They had a son William Wallace Deines in 1968. In 1993 they moved from the farm to Scottsbluff. Roland passed away in April of 1995. Through her church activities she always mentioned how she and a special someone would sit together at the Methodist Church most Sundays. That special someone was Dr. Kenneth Johnson. In 2000 they were married and continued living in Scottsbluff. In 2012 they moved to the Residency and have always said it was the best move they made. Bobbie always enjoyed golfing, traveling, church, cooking and Bible studies until she developed dementia. In 2016 she was moved to the care center where she remained. Bobbie always enjoyed social gatherings and family holidays. Every Christmas she made the best rye bread, as was taught to her from Aunt Marie Helzer over the years (and yes it took years as the recipe had never been written down). She is survived by her husband Kenneth Johnson, her daughter Tammy Harms, son Bill (Karen) Deines, stepsons David, Paul (Anne) and Steven (Danielle) Johnson and grandchildren Lindsay (Richard) Rochlitz, Trevor Harms, Will Deines (fiancé Amberly), Paul Johnson, Katharine Johnson, Anneliese Johnson and sister-in-law Sandra Pepper. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Frank Priest and Roland Deines, her sisters Charlotte Thieman, Nelda Bottom, Beverlee Fox, sister-in-law Norma Jean Schwartzkopf and brothers-in-law Chuck Thieman, Bill Bottom, Jack Fox, Jack Pepper and Curt Schwartzkopf. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care that was provided to our dear wife and mom from the Care Center nurses and staff.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Donna Rae M. (Peterson) Hatch, age 92, of Harrison, Nebraska passed away peacefully, Monday, October 24, 2022, at Genoa Long Term Care, Genoa, Nebraska.

Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. (mst) Saturday, October 29, at the Church of the Nativity in Harrison. The Visitation will be Friday, October 28, from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Rosary at the church.

Donna Rae Hatch was born on June 28, 1930, in Longmont, Colorado, to Edgar L. and Agnes R. (Kennedy) Peterson. She was the only child of this union. After moving back to Nebraska Edgar, Agnes and Donna Rae became residents again of Amelia, Nebraska (Holt County). Donna Rae attended county school and finished High School at Atkinson Public School. She then went on to college and received a Bachelor of Education from Wayne State College. Her first teaching assignment was at Lexington Public Schools.

During her time there she met a young farmer. Donna Rae and Wilford N. Hatch were united in marriage on August 22, 1956, in Amelia. After the honeymoon, Donna Rae started teaching in Colorado while Wilford was attending college in Fort Collins.

After Wilford graduated, Donna Rae stopped teaching to stay home and raise their son, Edgar.

Five years later Donna Rae had their second child, Suzanne. As the children grew up, Donna Rae would work for the county clerk, working at election time. She enjoyed this work and was known for her small perfect penmanship. She was hired by the state and the county working with many wonderful people throughout the years. After many faithful years working at the courthouse, Donna Rae retired. She enjoyed the coffee group at the Sioux Sundries and the Harrison House, and her many friends, especially Dorothy Wickersham and Irene Richey.

When she was 84, her dementia had increased and it led to her being admitted to Genoa LTC, in Genoa, Nebraska where she spent the last 8 years.

She was a member of the Church of the Nativity and the Rosary Altar Society. She had played the organ for several years for the church. She enjoyed reading, playing cards (pinochle and pitch), scratch tickets, Husker football and the Statler Bros.

She is preceded in death by: Loving Husband of 35 years: Wilford N. Hatch

Lillie Irene&nbsp;Norman of Chadron, Nebraska passed away at Crestview Care Center&nbsp;on October 22nd, 2022, at the age of 88. Her funeral will be held at the Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 2:00 P.M.

Lillie was born on November 29, 1933,&nbsp;in Crawford, Nebraska,&nbsp;to Raymond and (Cleda)&nbsp;Merle Inman-Miller. She was raised in Ardmore, South Dakota; one of four children in the home as her mother&nbsp;ran the Ardmore&nbsp;train depot and her father worked for the railroad.

Lillie attended high school in Lusk, Wyoming. Shortly after graduation she married Donald Norman of Crawford, Nebraska. They moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, as he served in the United States Army. &nbsp;Don and Lillie were blessed with&nbsp;two daughters,&nbsp;Teckla Jo and Starla Marie,&nbsp;during their time in&nbsp;Missouri.&nbsp;

In 1960, the&nbsp;family settled in Whiteclay, Nebraska,&nbsp;following Don’s service in the Army. They were the owners of The Jumping Eagle Inn. Years later, they lived in Buffalo Gap, South Dakota, and owned Stormin’ Norman’s.&nbsp;

Over the years, Lillie would build many friendships&nbsp;with community members in Sheridan, Dawes and Sioux counties, Pine Ridge, SD, and Fall River County, SD. She had a love&nbsp;for dancing, playing cards and her family. She was a&nbsp;member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and organized the Ardmore community reunion for several years.

Her family will miss her contagious&nbsp;laughter, sass and spirit. We thank Crestview Care Center for the loving care she received for the past three years.&nbsp;

A memorial is being&nbsp;established in Lillie’s name at&nbsp;St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Lillie is survived by daughter Teckla Jo (Duane) of Whitney, NE, sister Cleda (Chris) Erickson&nbsp;of Ukiah,&nbsp;California, grandchildren Starla Eleson of Yellowstone National Park, WY, Misty (Andy) Gregory of Fort Collins, CO, Jason (Jill) Eleson of Denver, CO, Farrah (Matt) Heigel of Lincoln, NE and Brian (Danelle) Eleson of Sugar Hill, GA. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren,&nbsp;one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Lillie was preceded in death by&nbsp;her husband Don, daughter Starla, mother (Cleda) Merle,&nbsp;sister Berchia, brother Edward, and&nbsp;many cousins&nbsp;and friends. She was excited to join them all and&nbsp;sends her thanks and love to all who shared laughs and love with her.

&nbsp; May 9, 1953 - October 21, 2022 Marcia was born on May 9, 1953, to Joe J. and Mary (Flora) Mathes in Big Timber, Montana, where she grew up as the youngest of four children on the family ranch just outside of town. She graduated in 1971 from Sweet Grass County High School.

She married Floyd Counts of Livingston, Montana on May 20, 1978, at St. Mary’s in Livingston. To the union were born two girls Hileri and Holly. In 1986, they moved to Hemingford, Nebraska and then in 2001, they moved to Crawford, Nebraska. Marcia enjoyed raising her girls, raising exotic pet birds, gardening, baking, sewing quilts, embroidery work, volunteering, and watching her grandson Timothy grow. Marcia died October, 21, 2022, at home after battling cancer. She was proceeded in death by her parents Joe and Mary. She is survived by her husband Floyd of Crawford, daughters Hileri (Joe) Wilkinson of Chadron, NE and Holly Counts of Crawford, her grandson Timothy Wilkinson, her siblings Joe R. (Sandy) Mathes of St. Ignatius, MT, Tony Mathes of St. Ignatius, MT, Marilyn (Ken) Andrews of Hamilton, MT, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A private burial will be at the Crawford Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be Monday, November 14 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at the Crawford Community Building. Nellie M. Athey, 93, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022 at her home in Alliance.

Graveside services will be Thursday, October 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alliance Cemetery with Pastor Glenn Johnson officiating.&nbsp; Her family will also hold a memorial service at a later date.

Nellie was born March 2, 1929 in Alliance to Alvah W. and Mildred Alice (Phillips) Muzzey.&nbsp; On October 19, 1946 she was united in marriage to Cecil Athey. A lifelong resident of Alliance Nellie attended the First Christian Church for many years.

Her survivors include her sons, Charles Athey of Havre, MT and Larry Athey of Minatare, NE and her grandchildren, Samantha, Cory, Kaitlyn and Ethan.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brother, Leroy Muzzey of Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, her brothers, Walter, Leo, Alvah, Leroy and Jesse, and her sisters, Maxine, Margaret, Grace, Ethel and Helen.

Marvin Hickman, 68 of Forest City passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at his home. A celebration of life will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2022 at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave. South, Northwood, IA 50459 with Rev. Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. He will be laid to rest beside Nancy at London Deer Creek Cemetery, rural Northwood. Visitation and public viewing will be held from 1:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the funeral home. Marvin Albert Hickman was born January 3, 1954 in Mason City, the son of Ferguson and Ruvella B. (Brunsvold) Hickman. He grew up in Northwood, attending Northwood High School. At a young age Marvin was lucky enough to find the love of his life, Nancy M. Liljedahl. The two were married on September 11, 1971 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and blessed with two children, Adam and Sara. The family made their home in Nebraska for almost 20 years while Marvin worked for the railroad. They later returned to Iowa, making their forever home in Forest City where Marvin worked at Waldorf in maintenance. He was known to be able to fix just about anything and always had an interesting solution to everyday problems. Recently, Marvin had worked diligently to earn his electrical license and worked beside his grandson at Gullickson Kruger. From a young age Marvin lived to hunt and fish. In their younger years, Nancy and Marvin enjoyed fishing all over north Iowa and trips to the gravel pits with the kids. This love of fishing was enjoyed countless times over the years with his brothers, friends and grandkids; if the fishing was good, Marvin would be there. Through the years the couple always had four legged companions, whether cats or dogs, he loved them dearly, especially his “Shorty”. Marvin was overjoyed during his recent trip to Missouri to visit one of his closest cousins, Bud, with his brother. Not long after returning home from their time together, Marvin passed peacefully away. He joined Nancy for her first birthday in Heaven and we know they are watching over us from above. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Adam Hickman of Forest City and Sara Krull of Rochester, MN; beloved grandchildren, Halle, Eli, Logan, Haley, Taylor, Dilan and Aden; brothers, Robert “Buck” (Becky) Hickman and Harold “Pep” (Sally) Hickman; mother-in-law, Carolyn Thompson; Nancy’s siblings, Ron (Lori) Liljedahl, Sandra Madden, Sharyl (Steve) Anderson, Susan Odden, Jackie (John) Berg, Nicole (Israel) Ochoa, and Ricky Perschbacher; four legged best friend, Stella “Shorty”; beloved cousin, Bud (Debbie) Hickman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Recently, Marvin had worked diligently to earn his electrical license and worked beside his grandson at Gullickson Kruger. From a young age Marvin lived to hunt and fish. In their younger years, Nancy and Marvin enjoyed fishing all over north Iowa and trips to the gravel pits with the kids. This love of fishing was enjoyed countless times over the years with his brothers, friends and grandkids; if the fishing was good, Marvin would be there. Through the years the couple always had four legged companions, whether cats or dogs, he loved them dearly, especially his “Shorty”. Marvin was overjoyed during his recent trip to Missouri to visit one of his closest cousins, Bud, with his brother. Not long after returning home from their time together, Marvin passed peacefully away. He joined Nancy for her first birthday in Heaven and we know they are watching over us from above. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Adam Hickman of Forest City and Sara Krull of Rochester, MN; beloved grandchildren, Halle, Eli, Logan, Haley, Taylor, Dilan and Aden; brothers, Robert “Buck” (Becky) Hickman and Harold “Pep” (Sally) Hickman; mother-in-law, Carolyn Thompson; Nancy’s siblings, Ron (Lori) Liljedahl, Sandra Madden, Sharyl (Steve) Anderson, Susan Odden, Jackie (John) Berg, Nicole (Israel) Ochoa, and Ricky Perschbacher; four legged best friend, Stella “Shorty”; beloved cousin, Bud (Debbie) Hickman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Kendall A Retzlaff was born on February 14, 1952.&nbsp; He passed away unexpectedly at home on October 18, 2022.&nbsp; Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 24, 2022, at Pier Funeral Home in Lusk, Wyoming.&nbsp; The family asks that you wear your favorite Nebraska Husker or Wyoming Cowboy apparel to the service.

Kendall “Blondie” was born February 14, 1952, to Harold and Nadine (Hoagland) Retzlaff in Gordon, NE.&nbsp; He grew up in Clinton, NE, and attended Clinton School through his childhood years, later attending and graduating from Gordon High School.&nbsp; Kendall was very athletic and outgoing, and a top competitor in his high school years and beyond.&nbsp; He graduated high school in 1970.&nbsp; After graduation, Kendall worked several odd jobs, including working for his father at the elevators in Clinton (Retzlaff Grain), owner of Western Bar, and Harris Sales.&nbsp; Later dedicating his life / career to Chicago &amp; Northwestern Railway / Union Pacific Railroad, where he retired after 37 years.&nbsp; Kendall was an avid softball player, golfer, pool player, hunter, and outdoorsman.&nbsp; He was a true Husker Fan, and his favorite saying was “we got ‘em right where we want ’em”, even if the Huskers were trailing by 20.

Kendall was married to Sharon Shedeed in 1972, and to this union three children were born:&nbsp; Melanie Dawn was born in 1973, Robin Christopher was born in 1975, and Nichole Lynn was born in 1981.&nbsp; Kendall later married his current wife, Dena (Larson) Retzlaff in 1997.&nbsp; Together they built their “forever home” in 2008 on Indian Creek on the Larson Homestead, near Lusk, WY.&nbsp; Kendall was a fun-loving husband, father, brother, and friend.&nbsp; Always up for an adventure, and never turned down a cold beer.&nbsp; He was known to many as “Blondie” for the notorious long blonde hair and spending more time in the bathroom than most women.

Kendall was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Nadine Retzlaff.

He is survived by his wife, Dena Retzlaff; his children:&nbsp; Melanie (Ty) Bourne of Clinton, NE and grandchildren Shelby (Brice) Stangle and Ethan; Robin (Stephanie) Retzlaff of Alliance, NE and grandchildren Jackson and Ryley; and Nichole (Brad) Younkin of Rushville, NE and grandchildren Gracyn, Kenley, and Oaklyn.&nbsp; Kendall is also survived by siblings: &nbsp;Kerry (Sherry) Retzlaff; Keith (Vickie) Retzlaff; and Kristi (Keith) Paul; mother-in-law Marylou Larson; father-in-law Terry Larson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and BMWED brothers and sisters.

Austin Dean Rahmig, 17 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Monday, October 17, 2022 at his home.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Gering United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery, Gering. Visitation will be Sunday, October 23 from 2-6 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Western Nebraska Shooting Sports or Gering FFA. Austin was born September 15, 2005 to Chad Rahmig and Tracy (Chrisman) Rahmig in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He received his early education at Lincoln Elementary School in Gering and was currently a junior at Gering High School.

Austin was a member of the Western Nebraska Shooting Sports, 4-H, NRA and Gering FFA serving as Vice President. His shooting career was very impressive. Austin was an accomplished target rifle shooter traveling extensively to compete in a sport he loved using multiple guns and division such as 22 rifle, sporter rifle, precision air rifle, and BB gun. In the Nebraska Panhandle Rifle League using a 22 rifle he won every week. In the Dakota League he placed in the top five shooting list over 50 % of the time. He competed in the South Dakota State Championship where he finished 3rd while competing in the adult division of the 22-rifle competition. In the Nebraska State High School Silhouette Shoot he was part of a team that won the state championship for the last four years and was the high boy each of those four years.

In the Panhandle Best BB gun he won more than 50% of each week. When competing in both the Panhandle Best Precision Air Rifle and Sporter Rifle competitions Austin won more than 50% weekly and won at least 3 years of the yearly competition. He competed twice at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado and once at Camp Perry, Ohio where he placed 55th in the Winter Air Games with shooters from all over the United States.

Austin competed recently in the American Legion Sporter Air Rifle competitions winning the Nebraska State Championship, the Regional Champion, and placed 3rd at the national competition held in Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center. At that national competition Austin earned 3 medals, including 2 bronze and the gold medal given as the best kneeling shooter in the United States for shooters 18 and under. Competitive shooting with Grandpa Chrisman was most important, as Grandpa was his coach and mentor. He was a hell-of-a shooter, a real natural talent.

He loved and enjoyed spending time with friends, working on his pickup, driving around, flying with his dad and welding. He had an incredible sense of humor, was quick witted and soft spoken and always willing to help others.

He is survived by his mother Tracy Rahmig, father Chad (Dianna) Rahmig, brother Rustin Rahmig, sister Tegan (Logan) Woodward, grandparents Mike and Janice Chrisman and Dick and Sharon Rahmig, Great Grandmothers Faye Chrisman and Marvel Moore, Aunt Stephanie (Marvin) Lockman with children Marissa, Cory (Pasiensia), Uncle Robert (Amber) Rahmig with children Kassadie (fiancé Michael Schuler) Chance, Lillianna and Tarrin. Along with numerous cousins and extended family and friends, and special friend Kali Hopkins.

Austin was preceded in death by his great grandparents Pat Chrisman, Donald Moore, Elsie Little and Lillian Rahmig.

Janet H. Suetsugu, 89, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Box Butte General Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

She was born on April 8, 1933 in Waimanalo, Hawaii to Masaki and Fujie Yamashita.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Harvey Y. Suetsugu on August 25, 1956.

Her husband’s career with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission brought them to Alliance over 60 years ago.&nbsp; Janet worked for LB Murphy, the cable office and the City of Alliance as a utility clerk before retiring. She enjoyed traveling around the United States with Harvey.

She is survived by her children, Sandra Suetsugu and Bruce (Phyllis) Suetsugu all of Alliance, numerous nieces and nephews, and her sister, Eleanor Yamashita of Honolulu, HI.

Jacqueline Jean Kling was born September 25th, 1957, to Jack Weiler Mills and Gloria Ann Mills.&nbsp; She was baptized into the faith July 27th,1958.&nbsp; Jackie attended Sunday school and church with her family and was confirmed into the Lutheran Church on May 7th, 1972.

After the sudden and untimely death of her father, her mother Gloria moved the family to her parent’s family farm Northeast of Gordon.&nbsp; Jackie attended Gordon High School; After graduating in 1975, she attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduating with a dual major in Special Education and Elementary Education.

Jackie was joined in marriage to Dan Kling, her high school sweetheart on December 29th, 1979.&nbsp; As the couple’s relationship grew, they were blessed by the birth of their first child Trent Robert on June 17th, 1983. Jackie’s overwhelming capacity to love, made room for their second blessing with the birth of Kortney Rae on April 17th, 1987.

Jackie was preceded in death by her father Jack, grandparents Joe and Gerda Huckfeldt, Milburn and Helen Mills, father-in-law Floyd Kling, sister-in-law Tina Mills, and various aunts, uncles, and a very special dear friend Mary Riggleman.

Jackie leaves behind her husband Dan, son Trent, daughter Kortney, daughter-in-law Jessica Kling, son-in-law Matt Dolezal, grandchildren Grace, Hope, and Faith Kling, Franklin, Randal and Hazel Dolezal, mother Gloria Mills, mother-in-law Helen Kling, brother Bob Mills along with many other close relatives and friends.

Jackie joined our heavenly father on October 14th, 2022.&nbsp; Jackie made an&nbsp;incredible impact on everyone in her life, especially her family, grandkids, and students and will be missed dearly.

Margaret E Huck, 86

Keith James Snyder was born in Scottsbluff NE on March 3rd, 1937, to James and Eunice Snyder and died on October 11, 2022.

He attended school in Harrisburg until entering and serving four years in the Navy. Following service to his country, Keith made Washington state his home, where he enjoyed a career as a mechanic and gas station owner. He enjoyed tinkering right up until the time of his death.

Keith and his wife, Katy, enjoyed several years as snowbirds residing in Apache Junction, AZ where they acquired many dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen; brother, Stanley; daughter, Debbie; and brother-in-law, Jack.

Survivors include stepson and daughter-in-law, Nick and Joni Kleven; Grandchildren and their spouses, Cameron and Nikki, Brianne and Blake, Stephanie and Alex; Great grandchildren, Elliot, Sondre and AJ; sister-in-law, Sherry Kleven Fischer; nephew, Randy Kleven and his family; along with numerous Snyder cousins that he was able to reacquaint with upon his return to Nebraska.

Keith had embraced his new life after the tough loss of his wife of 42 years, Katy. He was enjoying being back in Nebraska near family and friends.

He enjoyed tinkering right up until the time of his death.Keith and his wife, Katy, enjoyed several years as snowbirds residing in Apache Junction, AZ where they acquired many dear friends.He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen; brother, Stanley; daughter, Debbie; and brother-in-law, Jack.Survivors include stepson and daughter-in-law, Nick and Joni Kleven; Grandchildren and their spouses, Cameron and Nikki, Brianne and Blake, Stephanie and Alex; Great grandchildren, Elliot, Sondre and AJ; sister-in-law, Sherry Kleven Fischer; nephew, Randy Kleven and his family; along with numerous Snyder cousins that he was able to reacquaint with upon his return to Nebraska.Keith had embraced his new life after the tough loss of his wife of 42 years, Katy. Arlene M. Valetski, 85, of Scottsbluff, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct 16, 2022, at The Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff. Her funeral service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, Oct 19, 2022, at Bridgman Family Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with Reverend George Naylor officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. After school she began working as a switchboard telephone operator for United Telephone Co. in Scottsbluff. She worked through many positions and later retired from the telephone company. Over the years she worked as an executive secretary at Scottsbluff National Bank, and as a legal secretary for attorney James Hancock in Scottsbluff. Her later position was an office employee for Herberger’s Dept. Store. She then cared for her mother when she needed assistance at home. Her spare time job was cleaning various professional offices in the Scottsbluff area over the years. Arlene is survived by her brother Dr. Eldon (Patty) Valetski of Gering; nieces Cheryl Kaman, Laura (Joe) Campbell and Lisa (Jim) Kulovany. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Howard Larry Valetski.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He volunteered for Meals on Wheels with his wife Marcia for several years. Don is survived by his wife Marcia; son Rick (Judy) and daughter Debbie (Sue); stepson Kirk (Tiffanie) and stepdaughter Christine (Brian); 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Donald Dewaine Keller (1934 - 2022)

Gretchen Plantz, 79, died unexpectedly at Gordon (Nebraska) Memorial Hospital on October 13, 2022.

Gretchen was born on July 21, 1943, in Rushville, Nebraska, to A. C. “Charley” Plantz and Gretchen H. (Jones) Plantz. She grew up in Rushville and knew from the age of 8 that she wanted to be a nurse. She graduated from Rushville High School in 1960. In 1962 she graduated with an A.A. degree from Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, and in 1965 in Chicago, Illinois, she graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and received her Registered Nurse certification from Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Gretchen worked as an RN at Wesley Memorial, and then at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, for 35 years. Her last eleven years at Cook County were in the neonatal ward, where she loved working with “her babies.” She retired in 2000.

Life in Chicago suited Gretchen. After retirement she increased her computer skills, and became expert in online genealogy research, at which she spent many happy hours. She satisfied her lively interest in the news by following several national newspapers and magazines online. She continued living in the apartment she moved to in 1970, until deteriorating health caused her to return to Rushville in December 2021. In March 2022 she moved to Parkview Lodge Assisted Living in Rushville and enjoyed being with the caring staff and welcoming residents there.

Gretchen was a member of P.E.O.; she was honored for 60 years of membership in June 2022. She was a lifelong Episcopalian.

Gretchen is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Christine Plantz of Rushville.

Memorial services will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Alliance, Nebraska, on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 11:00 AM; ashes will be interred in the family plot at Rushville’s Fairview Cemetery later. A memorial has been established and donations may be sent to Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.

Michael X. Kosmicki, 81, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, NE.

He was born in Loup City, Nebraska on November 22, 1940 to Frank and Cashmere Kosmicki.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He graduated 1959 from St. Agnes Academy.&nbsp; Mike then served in the U.S. Army Oct. 1960-1962 in the 18th Airborne Corp.

He was a member of United Union, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, American Legion and Eagles club.&nbsp; He worked as a trainman for Burlington Northern for 34 Years.&nbsp; He enjoyed the countless fishing trips with all his brothers and trips to Black Hawk, CO with his niece. He also loved to tinker with anything needed fixing. Michael always ended every visit with “See you next trip.” He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

Michael is survived by his daughters, Jenelle Kosmicki and her husband, Jeff Howell of Springfield, MO and Julie and husband Joe Williams of Marionville, MO and two grandchildren, Jordan Williams and Amber Lacey of Marionville, MO. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerome (Norma) Kosmicki of Grand Island, NE, Don (Karen) Kosmicki of Overland Park KS, Father Ray Kosmicki of Grand Island, NE, David (Mary) Kosmicki Greeley, CO, his sisters, Alice Dirks of Greeley, CO and Bernice Smith of Grand Island, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Cash Kosmicki, his two brothers Zigmond and Anthony (Tony) Kosmicki and his sister, Blanch Galusha.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 21, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Matt Koperski officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.&nbsp; The Rosary will be recited at 9:15 a.m. prior to the Mass.

Richard Gregg, age 59, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

Richard was born on August 23, 1963 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Donald and Ruth (Reed) Gregg. He received his early education in the Scottsbluff schools, graduating from Scottsbluff High School in 1982. He attended University of Nebraska Lincoln and graduated with a degree in Construction Management in1989.

He is survived by his sisters Barbara Becker and Jennifer Gregg and husband Paul Sisler; nephews Evan Sisler, Graham Sisler and Jeremy Becker (Kristie) and their children Easton and Drew; niece Amanda Libsack (Chad) and their children Isaac and Kaya and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and siblings Jim, Janice and Robert Gregg.

Jeanette Schmunk, 79, of Bayard, passed away September 2022 in her home surrounded by family. At her request, a private family service will be held at a later date. Jeanette was born on March 30, 1943 in Oakdale, LA to Allie Bertrand and Vernie Estelle (Johnson) Bertrand. She was raised in Winnie, TX with her family and younger sister, Jane. She graduated from East Chambers High School in Winnie TX in 1961. She attended business school for one year and went to work at Employers Casualty Insurance Co.

Jeanette married Jacob Schmunk on December 6th, 1962 in Winnie, TX. They moved to Greenville, MS in 1964 and Vaughn, MS and returned back to Winnie. There they welcomed their daughter Christine in 1965 and son Troy in 1966. After moving to Warden, WA for a short time they came to reside in Bayard, NE in 1975.

While in Bayard, she worked at Western Auto, Chimney Rock Villa, Ed’s Stop &amp; Shop, Rahmig (making noodles), and a few other odd jobs. She enjoyed work at her granddaughter’s daycare the most.

Jeanette, lovingly known as Grandma Jake, delighted in helping others and was a source of love and knowledge for her family. As an artist and an organized, curious, gentle, energetic, calm-spirited and humbly skilled person, Grandma Jake was the beloved matriarch of the family who shared her wisdom and talents with her family. She loved to keep busy, read, sew, knit and crochet, work in the yard and on projects, chat with neighbors, and spend time at the sandpit where family and friends would gather to play, laugh, talk, and eat together. Most of all, Grandma Jake’s greatest joy came from spending time with and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jeanette is survived by her daughter Christine “Cricket” (Herman) Ziegler, son Troy (Candace) Schmunk, both of Bayard, Grandchildren Ashlyn Patton, Jesse Patton of Fort Collins, CO, Mitch Carpenter, Jessica (Zach) Nesbitt, Melanie (Kevin) Dalbey, Nicole (Tyson) Schledewitz, Tyson (Anna) Schmunk, all of Bayard. Great grandchildren Leah, Lexi, Layni and Lindy Nesbitt, Mason and Paxton Dalbey, Evie Patton, Natalie Schmunk, and Baby Schledewitz. She is also survived by her sister Jane (Jimmy) Crain of Nome, TX, Sisters-in-law Mary (Jim) Looney, Pat (Don) Mimms, both of CO, Dixie Schmunk of Bayard, Shirley Schmunk of WA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her sister Jane (Jimmy) Crain of Nome, TX, Sisters-in-law Mary (Jim) Looney, Pat (Don) Mimms, both of CO, Dixie Schmunk of Bayard, Shirley Schmunk of WA, and numerous nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her husband Jake, her parents, in-laws, nieces Dawn and Tara, nephew Michael, and other extended family.

David Allen Ostrander Sr., age 63, of Bridgeport, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Regional West Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at a later date. David was born April 15, 1959 in Flint, Michigan to David Nelson Ostrander and Ann Marie Winters. He was a dedicated and proud truck driver for many years of his life. He was a loving and caring father and friend. He spent his free time watching crime shows and horror movies with his children. David liked to take his son with him on the truck and would let his daughter sit in the back before he would to go across the road. David maintained a very close relationship with God throughout his life as well.

Survivors include his son, David Allen Ostrander Jr.; daughter, Amber Marie Ostrander; his two brothers, Michael and Phillip; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cheryl.
