Lillie Irene&nbsp;Norman of Chadron, Nebraska passed away at Crestview Care Center&nbsp;on October 22nd, 2022, at the age of 88. Her funeral will be held at the Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 2:00 P.M.

Lillie was born on November 29, 1933,&nbsp;in Crawford, Nebraska,&nbsp;to Raymond and (Cleda)&nbsp;Merle Inman-Miller. She was raised in Ardmore, South Dakota; one of four children in the home as her mother&nbsp;ran the Ardmore&nbsp;train depot and her father worked for the railroad.

Lillie attended high school in Lusk, Wyoming. Shortly after graduation she married Donald Norman of Crawford, Nebraska. They moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, as he served in the United States Army. &nbsp;Don and Lillie were blessed with&nbsp;two daughters,&nbsp;Teckla Jo and Starla Marie,&nbsp;during their time in&nbsp;Missouri.&nbsp;

In 1960, the&nbsp;family settled in Whiteclay, Nebraska,&nbsp;following Don’s service in the Army. They were the owners of The Jumping Eagle Inn. Years later, they lived in Buffalo Gap, South Dakota, and owned Stormin’ Norman’s.&nbsp;

Over the years, Lillie would build many friendships&nbsp;with community members in Sheridan, Dawes and Sioux counties, Pine Ridge, SD, and Fall River County, SD. She had a love&nbsp;for dancing, playing cards and her family. She was a&nbsp;member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and organized the Ardmore community reunion for several years.

Her family will miss her contagious&nbsp;laughter, sass and spirit. We thank Crestview Care Center for the loving care she received for the past three years.&nbsp;

A memorial is being&nbsp;established in Lillie’s name at&nbsp;St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Lillie is survived by daughter Teckla Jo (Duane) of Whitney, NE, sister Cleda (Chris) Erickson&nbsp;of Ukiah,&nbsp;California, grandchildren Starla Eleson of Yellowstone National Park, WY, Misty (Andy) Gregory of Fort Collins, CO, Jason (Jill) Eleson of Denver, CO, Farrah (Matt) Heigel of Lincoln, NE and Brian (Danelle) Eleson of Sugar Hill, GA. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren,&nbsp;one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Lillie was preceded in death by&nbsp;her husband Don, daughter Starla, mother (Cleda) Merle,&nbsp;sister Berchia, brother Edward, and&nbsp;many cousins&nbsp;and friends. She was excited to join them all and&nbsp;sends her thanks and love to all who shared laughs and love with her.

&nbsp; May 9, 1953 - October 21, 2022 Marcia was born on May 9, 1953, to Joe J. and Mary (Flora) Mathes in Big Timber, Montana, where she grew up as the youngest of four children on the family ranch just outside of town. She graduated in 1971 from Sweet Grass County High School.

She married Floyd Counts of Livingston, Montana on May 20, 1978, at St. Mary’s in Livingston. To the union were born two girls Hileri and Holly. In 1986, they moved to Hemingford, Nebraska and then in 2001, they moved to Crawford, Nebraska. Marcia enjoyed raising her girls, raising exotic pet birds, gardening, baking, sewing quilts, embroidery work, volunteering, and watching her grandson Timothy grow. Marcia died October, 21, 2022, at home after battling cancer. She was proceeded in death by her parents Joe and Mary. She is survived by her husband Floyd of Crawford, daughters Hileri (Joe) Wilkinson of Chadron, NE and Holly Counts of Crawford, her grandson Timothy Wilkinson, her siblings Joe R. (Sandy) Mathes of St. Ignatius, MT, Tony Mathes of St. Ignatius, MT, Marilyn (Ken) Andrews of Hamilton, MT, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A private burial will be at the Crawford Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be Monday, November 14 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at the Crawford Community Building. Nellie M. Athey, 93, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022 at her home in Alliance.

Graveside services will be Thursday, October 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alliance Cemetery with Pastor Glenn Johnson officiating.&nbsp; Her family will also hold a memorial service at a later date.

Nellie was born March 2, 1929 in Alliance to Alvah W. and Mildred Alice (Phillips) Muzzey.&nbsp; On October 19, 1946 she was united in marriage to Cecil Athey. A lifelong resident of Alliance Nellie attended the First Christian Church for many years.

Her survivors include her sons, Charles Athey of Havre, MT and Larry Athey of Minatare, NE and her grandchildren, Samantha, Cory, Kaitlyn and Ethan.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brother, Leroy Muzzey of Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, her brothers, Walter, Leo, Alvah, Leroy and Jesse, and her sisters, Maxine, Margaret, Grace, Ethel and Helen.

Marvin Hickman, 68 of Forest City passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at his home. A celebration of life will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2022 at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave. South, Northwood, IA 50459 with Rev. Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. He will be laid to rest beside Nancy at London Deer Creek Cemetery, rural Northwood. Visitation and public viewing will be held from 1:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the funeral home. Marvin Albert Hickman was born January 3, 1954 in Mason City, the son of Ferguson and Ruvella B. (Brunsvold) Hickman. He grew up in Northwood, attending Northwood High School. At a young age Marvin was lucky enough to find the love of his life, Nancy M. Liljedahl. The two were married on September 11, 1971 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and blessed with two children, Adam and Sara. The family made their home in Nebraska for almost 20 years while Marvin worked for the railroad. They later returned to Iowa, making their forever home in Forest City where Marvin worked at Waldorf in maintenance. He was known to be able to fix just about anything and always had an interesting solution to everyday problems. Recently, Marvin had worked diligently to earn his electrical license and worked beside his grandson at Gullickson Kruger. From a young age Marvin lived to hunt and fish. In their younger years, Nancy and Marvin enjoyed fishing all over north Iowa and trips to the gravel pits with the kids. This love of fishing was enjoyed countless times over the years with his brothers, friends and grandkids; if the fishing was good, Marvin would be there. Through the years the couple always had four legged companions, whether cats or dogs, he loved them dearly, especially his “Shorty”. Marvin was overjoyed during his recent trip to Missouri to visit one of his closest cousins, Bud, with his brother. Not long after returning home from their time together, Marvin passed peacefully away. He joined Nancy for her first birthday in Heaven and we know they are watching over us from above. Kendall A Retzlaff was born on February 14, 1952.&nbsp; He passed away unexpectedly at home on October 18, 2022.&nbsp; Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 24, 2022, at Pier Funeral Home in Lusk, Wyoming.&nbsp; The family asks that you wear your favorite Nebraska Husker or Wyoming Cowboy apparel to the service.

Kendall “Blondie” was born February 14, 1952, to Harold and Nadine (Hoagland) Retzlaff in Gordon, NE.&nbsp; He grew up in Clinton, NE, and attended Clinton School through his childhood years, later attending and graduating from Gordon High School.&nbsp; Kendall was very athletic and outgoing, and a top competitor in his high school years and beyond.&nbsp; He graduated high school in 1970.&nbsp; After graduation, Kendall worked several odd jobs, including working for his father at the elevators in Clinton (Retzlaff Grain), owner of Western Bar, and Harris Sales.&nbsp; Later dedicating his life / career to Chicago &amp; Northwestern Railway / Union Pacific Railroad, where he retired after 37 years.&nbsp; Kendall was an avid softball player, golfer, pool player, hunter, and outdoorsman.&nbsp; He was a true Husker Fan, and his favorite saying was “we got ‘em right where we want ’em”, even if the Huskers were trailing by 20.

Kendall was married to Sharon Shedeed in 1972, and to this union three children were born:&nbsp; Melanie Dawn was born in 1973, Robin Christopher was born in 1975, and Nichole Lynn was born in 1981.&nbsp; Kendall later married his current wife, Dena (Larson) Retzlaff in 1997.&nbsp; Together they built their “forever home” in 2008 on Indian Creek on the Larson Homestead, near Lusk, WY.&nbsp; Kendall was a fun-loving husband, father, brother, and friend.&nbsp; Always up for an adventure, and never turned down a cold beer.&nbsp; He was known to many as “Blondie” for the notorious long blonde hair and spending more time in the bathroom than most women.

Kendall was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Nadine Retzlaff.

He is survived by his wife, Dena Retzlaff; his children:&nbsp; Melanie (Ty) Bourne of Clinton, NE and grandchildren Shelby (Brice) Stangle and Ethan; Robin (Stephanie) Retzlaff of Alliance, NE and grandchildren Jackson and Ryley; and Nichole (Brad) Younkin of Rushville, NE and grandchildren Gracyn, Kenley, and Oaklyn.&nbsp; Kendall is also survived by siblings: &nbsp;Kerry (Sherry) Retzlaff; Keith (Vickie) Retzlaff; and Kristi (Keith) Paul; mother-in-law Marylou Larson; father-in-law Terry Larson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and BMWED brothers and sisters.

Kendall A Retzlaff (1952 - 2022)

Austin Dean Rahmig, 17 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Monday, October 17, 2022 at his home.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Gering United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery, Gering. Visitation will be Sunday, October 23 from 2-6 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Western Nebraska Shooting Sports or Gering FFA. Austin was born September 15, 2005 to Chad Rahmig and Tracy (Chrisman) Rahmig in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He received his early education at Lincoln Elementary School in Gering and was currently a junior at Gering High School.

Austin was a member of the Western Nebraska Shooting Sports, 4-H, NRA and Gering FFA serving as Vice President. His shooting career was very impressive. Austin was an accomplished target rifle shooter traveling extensively to compete in a sport he loved using multiple guns and division such as 22 rifle, sporter rifle, precision air rifle, and BB gun. In the Nebraska Panhandle Rifle League using a 22 rifle he won every week. In the Dakota League he placed in the top five shooting list over 50 % of the time. He competed in the South Dakota State Championship where he finished 3rd while competing in the adult division of the 22-rifle competition. In the Nebraska State High School Silhouette Shoot he was part of a team that won the state championship for the last four years and was the high boy each of those four years.

In the Panhandle Best BB gun he won more than 50% of each week. When competing in both the Panhandle Best Precision Air Rifle and Sporter Rifle competitions Austin won more than 50% weekly and won at least 3 years of the yearly competition. He competed twice at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado and once at Camp Perry, Ohio where he placed 55th in the Winter Air Games with shooters from all over the United States.

Austin competed recently in the American Legion Sporter Air Rifle competitions winning the Nebraska State Championship, the Regional Champion, and placed 3rd at the national competition held in Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center. He loved and enjoyed spending time with friends, working on his pickup, driving around, flying with his dad and welding. He had an incredible sense of humor, was quick witted and soft spoken and always willing to help others.

He is survived by his mother Tracy Rahmig, father Chad (Dianna) Rahmig, brother Rustin Rahmig, sister Tegan (Logan) Woodward, grandparents Mike and Janice Chrisman and Dick and Sharon Rahmig, Great Grandmothers Faye Chrisman and Marvel Moore, Aunt Stephanie (Marvin) Lockman with children Marissa, Cory (Pasiensia), Uncle Robert (Amber) Rahmig with children Kassadie (fiancé Michael Schuler) Chance, Lillianna and Tarrin. Along with numerous cousins and extended family and friends, and special friend Kali Hopkins.

Austin was preceded in death by his great grandparents Pat Chrisman, Donald Moore, Elsie Little and Lillian Rahmig.

He received his early education at Lincoln Elementary School in Gering and was currently a junior at Gering High School.Austin was a member of the Western Nebraska Shooting Sports, 4-H, NRA and Gering FFA serving as Vice President. His shooting career was very impressive. Austin was an accomplished target rifle shooter traveling extensively to compete in a sport he loved using multiple guns and division such as 22 rifle, sporter rifle, precision air rifle, and BB gun. In the Nebraska Panhandle Rifle League using a 22 rifle he won every week. In the Dakota League he placed in the top five shooting list over 50 % of the time. He competed in the South Dakota State Championship where he finished 3rd while competing in the adult division of the 22-rifle competition. In the Nebraska State High School Silhouette Shoot he was part of a team that won the state championship for the last four years and was the high boy each of those four years.In the Panhandle Best BB gun he won more than 50% of each week. When competing in both the Panhandle Best Precision Air Rifle and Sporter Rifle competitions Austin won more than 50% weekly and won at least 3 years of the yearly competition. He competed twice at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado and once at Camp Perry, Ohio where he placed 55th in the Winter Air Games with shooters from all over the United States.Austin competed recently in the American Legion Sporter Air Rifle competitions winning the Nebraska State Championship, the Regional Champion, and placed 3rd at the national competition held in Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center. She was born on April 8, 1933 in Waimanalo, Hawaii to Masaki and Fujie Yamashita.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Harvey Y. Suetsugu on August 25, 1956.

Her husband’s career with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission brought them to Alliance over 60 years ago.&nbsp; Janet worked for LB Murphy, the cable office and the City of Alliance as a utility clerk before retiring. She enjoyed traveling around the United States with Harvey.

She is survived by her children, Sandra Suetsugu and Bruce (Phyllis) Suetsugu all of Alliance, numerous nieces and nephews, and her sister, Eleanor Yamashita of Honolulu, HI.

Jacqueline Jean Kling was born September 25th, 1957, to Jack Weiler Mills and Gloria Ann Mills.&nbsp; She was baptized into the faith July 27th,1958.&nbsp; Jackie attended Sunday school and church with her family and was confirmed into the Lutheran Church on May 7th, 1972.

After the sudden and untimely death of her father, her mother Gloria moved the family to her parent’s family farm Northeast of Gordon.&nbsp; Jackie attended Gordon High School; After graduating in 1975, she attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduating with a dual major in Special Education and Elementary Education.

Jackie was joined in marriage to Dan Kling, her high school sweetheart on December 29th, 1979.&nbsp; As the couple’s relationship grew, they were blessed by the birth of their first child Trent Robert on June 17th, 1983. Jackie’s overwhelming capacity to love, made room for their second blessing with the birth of Kortney Rae on April 17th, 1987.

Jackie was preceded in death by her father Jack, grandparents Joe and Gerda Huckfeldt, Milburn and Helen Mills, father-in-law Floyd Kling, sister-in-law Tina Mills, and various aunts, uncles, and a very special dear friend Mary Riggleman.

Jackie leaves behind her husband Dan, son Trent, daughter Kortney, daughter-in-law Jessica Kling, son-in-law Matt Dolezal, grandchildren Grace, Hope, and Faith Kling, Franklin, Randal and Hazel Dolezal, mother Gloria Mills, mother-in-law Helen Kling, brother Bob Mills along with many other close relatives and friends.

Jackie joined our heavenly father on October 14th, 2022.&nbsp; Jackie made an&nbsp;incredible impact on everyone in her life, especially her family, grandkids, and students and will be missed dearly.

Keith James Snyder was born in Scottsbluff NE on March 3rd, 1937, to James and Eunice Snyder and died on October 11, 2022.

He attended school in Harrisburg until entering and serving four years in the Navy. Following service to his country, Keith made Washington state his home, where he enjoyed a career as a mechanic and gas station owner. He enjoyed tinkering right up until the time of his death.

Keith and his wife, Katy, enjoyed several years as snowbirds residing in Apache Junction, AZ where they acquired many dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen; brother, Stanley; daughter, Debbie; and brother-in-law, Jack.

Survivors include stepson and daughter-in-law, Nick and Joni Kleven; Grandchildren and their spouses, Cameron and Nikki, Brianne and Blake, Stephanie and Alex; Great grandchildren, Elliot, Sondre and AJ; sister-in-law, Sherry Kleven Fischer; nephew, Randy Kleven and his family; along with numerous Snyder cousins that he was able to reacquaint with upon his return to Nebraska.

Keith had embraced his new life after the tough loss of his wife of 42 years, Katy. He was enjoying being back in Nebraska near family and friends.

A special thank you to all the folks at Vista Villa in Kimball for welcoming him back home!

Her later position was an office employee for Herberger’s Dept. Store. She then cared for her mother when she needed assistance at home. Her spare time job was cleaning various professional offices in the Scottsbluff area over the years. Arlene is survived by her brother Dr. Eldon (Patty) Valetski of Gering; nieces Cheryl Kaman, Laura (Joe) Campbell and Lisa (Jim) Kulovany. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Howard Larry Valetski.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He volunteered for Meals on Wheels with his wife Marcia for several years. Donald Dewaine Keller (1934 - 2022)

Gretchen Plantz, 79, died unexpectedly at Gordon (Nebraska) Memorial Hospital on October 13, 2022.

Gretchen was born on July 21, 1943, in Rushville, Nebraska, to A. C. “Charley” Plantz and Gretchen H. (Jones) Plantz. She grew up in Rushville and knew from the age of 8 that she wanted to be a nurse. She graduated from Rushville High School in 1960. In 1962 she graduated with an A.A. degree from Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, and in 1965 in Chicago, Illinois, she graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and received her Registered Nurse certification from Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Gretchen worked as an RN at Wesley Memorial, and then at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, for 35 years. Her last eleven years at Cook County were in the neonatal ward, where she loved working with “her babies.” She retired in 2000.

Life in Chicago suited Gretchen. After retirement she increased her computer skills, and became expert in online genealogy research, at which she spent many happy hours. She satisfied her lively interest in the news by following several national newspapers and magazines online. She continued living in the apartment she moved to in 1970, until deteriorating health caused her to return to Rushville in December 2021. In March 2022 she moved to Parkview Lodge Assisted Living in Rushville and enjoyed being with the caring staff and welcoming residents there.

Gretchen was a member of P.E.O.; she was honored for 60 years of membership in June 2022. She was a lifelong Episcopalian.

Gretchen is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Christine Plantz of Rushville.

Memorial services will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Alliance, Nebraska, on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 11:00 AM; ashes will be interred in the family plot at Rushville’s Fairview Cemetery later. C. “Charley” Plantz and Gretchen H. (Jones) Plantz. She grew up in Rushville and knew from the age of 8 that she wanted to be a nurse. She graduated from Rushville High School in 1960. In 1962 she graduated with an A.A. degree from Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, and in 1965 in Chicago, Illinois, she graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and received her Registered Nurse certification from Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Gretchen worked as an RN at Wesley Memorial, and then at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, for 35 years. Her last eleven years at Cook County were in the neonatal ward, where she loved working with “her babies.” She retired in 2000.Life in Chicago suited Gretchen. Michael X. Kosmicki, 81, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, NE.

He was born in Loup City, Nebraska on November 22, 1940 to Frank and Cashmere Kosmicki.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He graduated 1959 from St. Agnes Academy.&nbsp; Mike then served in the U.S. Army Oct. 1960-1962 in the 18th Airborne Corp.

He was a member of United Union, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, American Legion and Eagles club.&nbsp; He worked as a trainman for Burlington Northern for 34 Years.&nbsp; He enjoyed the countless fishing trips with all his brothers and trips to Black Hawk, CO with his niece. He also loved to tinker with anything needed fixing. Michael always ended every visit with “See you next trip.” He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

Michael is survived by his daughters, Jenelle Kosmicki and her husband, Jeff Howell of Springfield, MO and Julie and husband Joe Williams of Marionville, MO and two grandchildren, Jordan Williams and Amber Lacey of Marionville, MO. Richard Gregg, age 59, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

Jeanette was born on March 30, 1943 in Oakdale, LA to Allie Bertrand and Vernie Estelle (Johnson) Bertrand. She was raised in Winnie, TX with her family and younger sister, Jane. She graduated from East Chambers High School in Winnie TX in 1961. She attended business school for one year and went to work at Employers Casualty Insurance Co.

Jeanette married Jacob Schmunk on December 6th, 1962 in Winnie, TX. They moved to Greenville, MS in 1964 and Vaughn, MS and returned back to Winnie. There they welcomed their daughter Christine in 1965 and son Troy in 1966. After moving to Warden, WA for a short time they came to reside in Bayard, NE in 1975.

While in Bayard, she worked at Western Auto, Chimney Rock Villa, Ed’s Stop &amp; Shop, Rahmig (making noodles), and a few other odd jobs. She enjoyed work at her granddaughter’s daycare the most.

Jeanette, lovingly known as Grandma Jake, delighted in helping others and was a source of love and knowledge for her family. As an artist and an organized, curious, gentle, energetic, calm-spirited and humbly skilled person, Grandma Jake was the beloved matriarch of the family who shared her wisdom and talents with her family. She loved to keep busy, read, sew, knit and crochet, work in the yard and on projects, chat with neighbors, and spend time at the sandpit where family and friends would gather to play, laugh, talk, and eat together. Most of all, Grandma Jake’s greatest joy came from spending time with and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jeanette is survived by her daughter Christine “Cricket” (Herman) Ziegler, son Troy (Candace) Schmunk, both of Bayard, Grandchildren Ashlyn Patton, Jesse Patton of Fort Collins, CO, Mitch Carpenter, Jessica (Zach) Nesbitt, Melanie (Kevin) Dalbey, Nicole (Tyson) Schledewitz, Tyson (Anna) Schmunk, all of Bayard. Great grandchildren Leah, Lexi, Layni and Lindy Nesbitt, Mason and Paxton Dalbey, Evie Patton, Natalie Schmunk, and Baby Schledewitz. She is also survived by her sister Jane (Jimmy) Crain of Nome, TX, Sisters-in-law Mary (Jim) Looney, Pat (Don) Mimms, both of CO, Dixie Schmunk of Bayard, Shirley Schmunk of WA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

David Allen Ostrander Sr., age 63, of Bridgeport, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Regional West Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at a later date. David was born April 15, 1959 in Flint, Michigan to David Nelson Ostrander and Ann Marie Winters. He was a dedicated and proud truck driver for many years of his life. He was a loving and caring father and friend. He spent his free time watching crime shows and horror movies with his children. David liked to take his son with him on the truck and would let his daughter sit in the back before he would to go across the road. David maintained a very close relationship with God throughout his life as well.

Survivors include his son, David Allen Ostrander Jr.; daughter, Amber Marie Ostrander; his two brothers, Michael and Phillip; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cheryl.

Larry Lynes, 81, passed away Monday, October 10, 2022 at Crest View Care Center in Chadron.

He was born May 27, 1941 in Oshkosh, NE to Ezra and Lillian (Sindelar) Lynes and was named Robert Larry Lines.&nbsp;

On December 22, 1962 he was united in marriage to Tamara J. Hodges in Julesburg, Colorado.

Larry managed the lumber yard in Chappell, NE for many years before moving to Alliance in 1994 when he became the assistant manager at Century Lumber.&nbsp; In 2007 he and his son, Vaughn, opened a gun shop called V&amp;L Sports which they operated until 2014.&nbsp; He continued working after that distributing the Scottsbluff Star-Herald.&nbsp; He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his children, Connie (Tony) Drew and Vaughn Lynes of Alliance and Cindy Johnson of Amarillo, TX.&nbsp; He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kiersten Johnson of Houston, TX and Noah Drew of Alliance.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 17, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Her mind was as sharp as a tack to the very end. She spent a lifetime helping people especially her family. She loved her children and grandchildren immensely. She had a great sense of humor. Her love for God was known by many. She loved to talk about Jesus and the Bible and would use a magnifying glass while reading scripture. She attended church and enjoyed bible study groups.

Jean married Carl Muhr Feb 15, 1948. From this union was born five children. Lee (Loretta) Muhr of Gering, NE; Gwen (James) Hargrave of LaVista, NE; James Muhr of Harrisburg, NE; Carla (David) Fanning, Bayard, NE and Ann (Dan) Twombly of Bayard, NE. 15 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Marcella 'Jean' Muhr (1926 - 2022)

Beonville R.&nbsp; Bullock (Bee) 75 went to meet his Heavenly Father on October 2, 2022 surrounded by his immediate family following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Bee was born in Alliance, Ne on March 23, 1947 to Elbert C. and Norma June Bullock.

Bee lived most of his life in Alliance. He attended school there and graduated in 1966. He was an accomplished athlete. He entered the Navy after high school and served in Vietnam. After serving in the military Bee graduated from Chadron State College. He married Patricia Nicholson (Patty) on December 20, 1970 and they had two children.

Bee is survived by his wife Patty, daughter Lisa (Stan) Kingsley, son Curt Bullock, grandchildren Kyrstin (Jared) Schleicher, Kyarra Bullock, Kai Bullock, and great grandchildren Ollie Schleicher and Charleigh Schleicher. Bee is also survived by his brother Steven Bullock, sister in law Cindy (Steve) Ford, Cindy Nicholson, brother in law Craig (Helga) Nicholson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bee was preceded in death by his mother, father, mother in law, father in law and brother in law.

Bee was employed with Burlington Northern/ Santa Fe railroad until his retirement. After retirement, Bee and Patty moved to Missouri. There he continued doing what he loved which was all kinds of woodworking, yard work and landscaping. He also loved spending time with his family and always enjoyed their visits. Bee had a blessed life with family, friends and always had God’s word in his heart to live by.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 14, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Alliance Berean Church in Alliance, Ne. Pastor Paul Biggers will be officiating. Burial will be at Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Alliance, Ne following the service.

Beonville 'Bee' R. Bullock (1947 - 2022)

Melvyn Glenn Price was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska on March 31, 1942 to Glenn Price and Pauline Ada (Estes) Price. He was a lifetime resident of Hemingford, Nebraska and passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022 following complications from heart surgery.

He attended and graduated from Hemingford High School in 1959. In school he was active in sports where he especially liked basketball, lettering in basketball and football. He also enjoyed one-act plays and friendships with other students.

After high school, Mel studied at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. In his second year of college he met Joy Montgomery who was a student at Union College in Lincoln; they were married March 28, 1961. The following summer they moved to Hemingford and purchased 160 acres of irrigated farmland. In 1969, Mel and Joy purchased a second farm of 400 irrigated acres. Crops raised through the years included: potatoes, sugarbeets, dry edible beans, barley, malt barley, wheat, corn, triticale, sunflowers, oats, millet, alfalfa, in addition to a few cows. In 1974, they began developing a dairy hay market in the Loveland, Colorado area. Later, they started an additional hay business by purchasing a semi-truck to transport hay and grain. To supplement the farm income, Mel became a licensed and bonded grain dealer, buying, selling and hauling the commodities.

In 1976 the Alliance, Nebraska Jaycees chose Mel to represent Box Butte County as the Outstanding Young Farmer candidate at the Nebraska Jaycees State Convention in Millard, Nebraska. Mel was chosen the winner out of a field of 23 candidates. He later competed for the national title at the National Farmer-Rancher Convention in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Mel was a member of the Elks Lodge, Alliance, Nebraska, the Alliance Jaycees, and the Hemingford Seventh-day Adventist Church. His favorite bible text was John 21:3, "Simon Peter saith unto them, 'I go a fishing'..."

The most exciting fishing adventure Mel had was in 1992 when, with two of his friends, in Baja, Mexico, on the sea of Cortez near Los Barrilies, they pulled in a Blue Marlin weighing 1,200 pounds with a length of 17 feet and a girth of 78 inches. The marlin was processed and donated to the people of the little village of Los Barriles.

Mel is survived by his wife, Joy, daughter, Rae, a son and numerous relatives and friends.

In lieu of monetary donations, Mel requests that your kindness to others be your memorial.

Gretchen Eileen (Pisel) Powles, 83, passed away on October 2, 2022, at the Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, Nebraska, following a massive stroke.

She was born August 4, 1939, in Alliance, Nebraska, to Edmund and Grace (Lamb) Pisel.

Gretchen lived her entire life in the Nebraska Sandhills, growing up on her family’s ranch which was a part of the original Spade Ranch.&nbsp; She graduated from Gordon High School in 1956 and Chadron Teacher’s College in 1957. She married Don Powles on June 3, 1962, and moved to the Powles Ranch near Bingham; three children were born to this marriage.

Gretchen was a one-room schoolhouse teacher prior to marriage. She never stopped using her teacher training-- as she parented Tena, Jana, and Bryon, as a piano teacher, and as a judge for a variety of speaking competitions.&nbsp; She was “the driver” for her children, grandchildren and countless youth to rodeos, cattle shows, 4-H and FFA events and sports.&nbsp; She shared her love for horses and cattle with everyone.&nbsp;

Music and playing the piano was a lifelong passion. Gretchen played piano in high school, sang in the school choir and performed in play productions.&nbsp; She shared her gift as a pianist playing for weddings, funerals, and accompanying 4-H music groups and elementary musical performances.&nbsp; She served as the pianist for the Bingham Church for decades.&nbsp;

In Gretchen’s kitchen she welcomed people with a well-set table and a hearty meal. She was known for her delicious chocolate zucchini cakes and beautifully decorated sugar cookies.&nbsp; She taught others how to cook and as a ranch wife, it was simply part of her role on the ranch.&nbsp; Gretchen was an accomplished seamstress who was able to sew anything for anyone.&nbsp; In her younger years, she was a crack shot and enjoyed making exquisite leatherwork and ceramics.&nbsp; Her additional hobbies included bowling, reading, collecting miniatures, playing dominoes with friends and nurturing her beautiful flower gardens, especially her roses.

Gretchen attended Pleasant Point Community Church and was a dedicated member of the Bingham Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She served as the American Gelbvieh Gals President from 1990-1996. Gretchen was awarded the 1995 Sheridan County Alumni 4-H Award and the 2010 Beta Sigma Phi Woman of the Year Award.

She is survived by her three children Tena Raglin, Jana (JC) Jensen, and Bryon (Audrey) Powles; four grandchildren Matthew (Ana) Raglin and Marissa Raglin, and Jada and Cameron Jensen; and three great-grandchildren Jayden, Amira, and Eliana Raglin, as well as countless friends and family.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband Don Powles, her parents Ed and Grace Pisel, sister Dorothy and brother-in-law Joe Shaughnessy, and son-in-law Ron Raglin.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bingham Lutheran Church with Reverend Jonathan Oetting officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Bingham Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-7 p.m. with her family present from 5-7 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Vedah Pearl Galloway was born April 10, 1932, to George Whitcomb and Lola Rawles-Whitcomb.&nbsp; Vedah passed away at Brown County Hospital, Ainsworth, Nebraska.

Vedah was a graduate of Chadron State College and went on to become a country schoolteacher south of Merriman.&nbsp; Mack and Vedah were united in marriage February 7, 1954.&nbsp; She was a bookkeeper for Weber Equipment Company later worked at the Anchor Bank.&nbsp; After raising their four children, she became a cosmetologist and barber, working many years with Mack in their own business in Merriman and Gordon.&nbsp;

Vedah enjoyed her family and friends, reading, crafting and travel to visit her kids and grandkids.&nbsp;

Vedah was preceded in death by her husband Mack, son Thomas, brother Harold and her parents.&nbsp; She is survived by John (Susan) Galloway of Alamogordo, NM, Shirley (Cameron) Chesbro of Buffalo, WY, Ronald (Paula) Galloway of Nolanville, TX, to include six grandchildren, Travis (Christy) Galloway, Danita (Zachary) Jerry, Samantha (Reese) Howard, Trevor (Afton) Chesbro, Sean (Vivien) Galloway, Rhonda (Cody) Gaston and seven great grandchildren.&nbsp;
