Dawn Marie Loos, 68, of Scottsbluff, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2022, at The Residency in Scottsbluff.&nbsp; Dawn was born July 17, 1954, in Scottsbluff to Donald E. and Patricia A. (Ryan) Loos. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School. An auto accident early in life limited her ability to work, but Dawn assisted with the family business, Loos Electric Supply, off and on for several years answering phones and filing. Her smiling face greeted the customers and those who called in alike.&nbsp; Dawn contracted West Nile Virus in 2002, leaving her paralyzed virtually from the chest down.&nbsp; She was placed in a long-term skilled nursing facility and remained there until her death.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff with Pastor Andrew Griess officiating.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff.&nbsp; The service will be livestreamed and recorded to Dawn’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com. Memorials may be made to the Panhandle Humane Society.

She had a special love for dogs and horses. Dennis, the Boston Terrier, and Banner, her white horse, were her favorites while living with her parents and grandparents on the ranch.&nbsp; She would go on to share her love of animals and music with her nieces and nephew. Dawn had an eye for detail when working on painting her ceramics and making macromay plant holders. Several of her works were given as gifts.&nbsp; Dawn was a wonderful aunt to her nieces and nephew. They always looked forward to their time spent with her.&nbsp; Dawn was a member of the Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff. She had a strong faith in the Lord and enjoyed visits from her church family. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Congregational Church in Scottsbluff.

Survivors include her sister, Pam (Bill) Bauer of Scottsbluff; brother, David Loos of Mitchell; aunts, Norma Welsh of Omaha and Theil Ryan of Torrington; uncle, Bruce Ryan of Denver, CO; nieces and nephew, Melissa (Jason) Bauer of Scottsbluff, Brooks (Jennifer) Bauer of Greeley, CO, and Candace Konley of Omaha, NE; stepmom, Carol Loos of Charlotte, NC; along with other extended family members.

Dawn was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Sandy Loos; nephew-in-law, James Post; former husband, William Steen; paternal grandparents, Emmanuel and Sarah Loos; maternal grandparents, Eli and Nettie Ryan; uncle, Larry Ryan; aunts and uncles, Geraldine and Walt Herdt, Harriet and Harvey Foos, Sharon and Leroy Moss; along with other extended family members.

The family would like to thank all of Dawn’s caregivers over the last 20 years, especially those at The Residency for their care and comfort to Dawn.&nbsp; Her transition was easier knowing they were there with her.

George Green was a beloved member of his church, his family, and his entire community. George passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022 at the age of 99.

He was born on December 13, 1922 to loving parents Katherine and Conrad Green and was one of seven siblings. George grew up in the Scottsbluff Valley where he attended Victory Hill School, graduated from Scottsbluff High School in the class of 1940, and went on to attend Scottsbluff Junior College.

George went on to purchase and own two successful farms, becoming a high ten sugar beet grower for eight years between 1960 and 1975. Though a hard working farmer, George consistently found time to give back to his community as a 4-H Leader and as Elder and President of the Church Council at St. James Lutheran Church.

One of the most important parts of George’s life was sharing it with his cherished wife Leona Green (nee Reifschneider). They were married for 71 years before she passed. They had three beautiful children that were the lights of their life: George Lee Green, Loren James Green, and Suzanne K Green.

George Green lived a life filled with love, integrity, and appreciation for God’s Plan.

He is survived by George L. Green and wife Judy Green, Loren Green and wife Tricia Green, and Suzanne Green Johnston, and his four granddaughters Amy, Sara, Stephanie, and Charlotte and four great grandchildren Austin, Aiden, Lily, and Drake who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by wife Leona Green (nee Reifschneider), and siblings Mary (Jack) Reichert, Con (Florine) Green, Kate (Henry) Rieb, Henry (Sheila) Green, Annie (Henry) Aschenbrenner, Helen (Charles) Andrews.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 5 pm to 7 pm at the Dugan Kramer Funeral Home and funeral services will be on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 2 pm at St. James Lutheran Church. George Green (1922 - 2022)

Toni Lichius, 77, of Bayard, passed away peacefully after a 3-month battle with cancer on September 12, 2022, at the Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, Sept 16, 2022, at the Community Bible Church with Pastor Brad Kilthau officiating. Interment will follow at Bayard Cemetery. Toni was born Toni Kay Nixon on January 11, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Clara Nixon but was adopted at birth by Ora and Mabel Day. She grew up and attended elementary and Jr High school in Detroit, Michigan. At age 11, while attending church, she accepted Christ as her Savior and spent the rest of her life serving Him. At age 13, she moved to Greenville, South Carolina where she attended Bob Jones Academy until she graduated in 1962. She went on to attend Bob Jones University for one year studying Home Economics. This is where she met her future husband, Joseph Lichius. They were united in marriage on August 17, 1963. To this union, four children were born. (David, Mark, Daniel and Beth.) Toni spent most of her married years as a Pastor’s wife serving in rural churches with her husband. She was a stay-at-home mother while also serving in her church as a Sunday School teacher, Awana Leader, Bible study leader and a Mentor to six very special young women, but her most treasured passion was being a wife and mother. Toni took great pride in raising a garden every year and canning her goods to help feed her family. She later enjoyed planting flowers and watching them bloom each spring. She also had a love of reading. Toni was an avid seamstress and quilter. She loved to do this handy work with much love for whomever she was sewing/quilting for. In 1988, she met her birth mother and formed a bond with her over the next several years. From 1990-2000, she worked for Dr. Danny Peterson as a Dental Assistant. From 2000-2002, she worked for Dr David Dewey as a Dental Assistant and from 2002-2006, she worked at Community Christian School as a Teacher’s Aide. In 2006, she retired and began serving as the church custodian at Community Bible Church until her health would not allow her to continue to work. Toni was a member of the Panhandle Quilt Guild. She was also a member of Community Bible Church for 43 years and served with the Ladies Missionary Fellowship. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Joseph Lichius; sons and their families Dave/Kaylene Lichius, Sarah, Steven, Kristin/Shawn Anderson, Mark/Lorraine Lichius, Darrell Lichius, Chris Lichius and Brandon/Holly Lichius, Dan/Sylvia Lichius, Erica Gonzalez, Angela Gonzalez, Hope/Jason Fritzler, Juana Ybarra; daughter Beth/Aaron Kehn, Brynn, Dylan, Caedyn; nephews Albert and Jimmy Dawson; and previous special daughter-in-law Sheila Ill. Yvonne Fitts went home to be with her Lord Jesus on September 11, 2022, at The Heritage Estates in Gering Nebraska. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. &nbsp;A private family burial for both Yvonne and Donald Fitts, will be held Tuesday, September 20th at the Gordon, Nebraska Cemetery. Yvonne was born August 7, 1926, in Gordon, Nebraska to Cecil Andrew and Vera Isabel (Sellers) Dahlgren. Yvonne attended school through the 8th grade in rural Cherry County located near the family ranch, south of Merriman, Nebraska. She then attended and graduated from high school in Hay Springs, Nebraska while boarding with her Aunt Anna and Uncle Arthur (Pete) Peterson. After graduation, her family moved to Gordon from the ranch and Yvonne returned to Gordon and attended two years of schooling at the Gordon Bible School. Yvonne met Donald Fitts at a church roller skating party on New Year’s Eve, 1945 and married June 30, 1946. They returned to farm the family farm and raise cattle northeast of Minatare, Nebraska. They were blessed with 75 years of marriage before Donald passed in October of 2021. From this union, four children were born: Gary, Royce, Marilyn and Linda. Although she often longed for her beloved Sandhills and horses, Yvonne relentlessly assisted Donald on the farm with cattle and crops and harvest. She was known to throw a banquet on the table at moment’s notice if an extended family member or stranger happened to drive into the yard. Yvonne devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. Her commitment was to “. . . Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it…” (Prov. 22:6. paraphrased.) Christian education was important to Yvonne. Memorials are suggested to the Sunday School and Youth programs at the Scottsbluff First Church of God and the Gordon First Church of God. Wilma Jean Snider went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of September 4, 2022.

Jean was born on May 21, 1934 in Bayard, Nebraska, at her Grandparent’s homestead.

She was the daughter of Fred and Mable Steffensmeier.

She married Arthur Dean Snider in January 1951, and then finished High School, graduating in 1951. They were married 47 years until his death in 1998. She loved her family and had 3 children: Arthur F Snider, Debi Matchen, and LaVonna Hasler.

She was an Electronic Engineer for 25 years. Jean trick trained and performed horses, and raised many Arabian and Quarter horse paints. She bred and showed beautiful Yorkshire Terriers. She had the 6th Yorkie in the United States and showed at Westminster of New York. She was President of the Canary Bird Club in Casper WY, and even trained a Falcon and taught a Magpie to talk.

She cherished and valued time spent with her loved ones most of all, and read her Bible every day.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur D. Snider, and daughter, Lavonna J. Hasler.

Left to mourn her passing include her son, Arthur F. (Starla) Snider; daughter Debi (Mike) Matchen; son-in-law, Tom Hasler; brother, Freddie Steffensmeier; grand-children, Jolene Tjaden, Gina Jones, Adam Snider, Katie Vine, Angela Hasler, Katie Hasler, Paul Hasler, Jessica Watters, Matthew Matchen; and her 16 great-grandchildren, Vanessa Jones, Alexus Fryman, Sagan Jones, Maddie Tjaden, Cody Tjaden, Kobe Tjaden, Caleb Tjaden, Kaylee Vine, Khloe Vine, Faith Vine, Levi Snider, Tristen Airola, Samual Airola, Alexander Matchen, Logan Watters, and Landan Watters.

Jean requested a private grave-side funeral which will be held at the Bayard City Cemetery.

Georgia Daughters was born June 11, 1935, in Custer, SD to Homer and Margaret (Hovelshrud) Westover. Georgia passed away September 6th, 2022, at Bennett County Hospital in Martin, SD. She was 87 years old.

Georgia grew up in rural Martin, SD. Georgia was a very hard worker and made food service into a career. Started working as a waitress at Tally's in Rapid City, SD, Club Café in Martin, SD, Vesta’s in Martin, SD, managed Markota Acres with her sister Jan, until finally deciding to open her own restaurant in Martin, SD. She started Geo's Steak House and had her restaurant for around 20 years. After selling her restaurant Georgia volunteered and did the foster grandparent program with Martin Grade school. At nearly 80 years old she finally retired.

Georgia is survived by her sister Jan Harris. Georgia has 5 children. Rhonda (Martin) Robuck, Marty (Jim) Hoffner, Carla, Arlana Bettelyoun, and Blaine Brown.

Georgia had many grandkids. Georgia was one of the most unique grandmas a person could have. The cussing, keeping you in line, and telling it like it is. She was never the Hallmark type of grandma those are dull. She was an amazing cook though. Georgia also had many great grandkids, great-great grandkids, and even great-great-great grandkids. Georgia also has numerous nephews and nieces.

For more than 30 years Georgia remained with Frank Marshall. He was a stepfather to her children and grandpa to her grandchildren. When Frank's health started declining, they shared a room together up until his passing. Georgia kept his wallet with his IDs with her at all times after his passing.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse Frank Marshall, her brothers Dean Westover, Terry Westover, and a favorite son-in-law to be Larry Bear Killer Sr.

Pallbearers are Terry D Nelson, Elbridge Ward, Rodney Coon, Grandsons Troy Smith ll, Richard Bettelyoun Jr, Braden Brown, Jordan High Horse, Arrow Curry, Shayne Curry, Gene Standing Bear Jr, and Virgil Clausen.

William T. “Bill” Smith, 64, died Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, CO.

Bill was born March 19, 1958 in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; He spent his childhood in Alliance and graduated from Alliance High School in 1976.&nbsp; Following graduation, he worked in various jobs before starting his career with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.&nbsp; After nearly 40 years of service, he retired from the railroad in 2018.

He was an avid volleyball fan, enjoying all kinds of volleyball and participated in leagues throughout the area.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed watching Husker Volleyball games.

Bill’s nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews were his pride and joy.&nbsp; He had a big heart and was always willing to lend a hand while he was able.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen M. Cameron.

As per Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place and memorials may be given to the Alliance Berean Church,&nbsp;1639 Emerson Ave., Alliance, Nebraska, 69301.

Clifford Emery Lawrence was born June 12, 1923 to emery and Opal Lawrence. He was raised on the family farm northwest of Rushville. He attended school in Rushville and after graduating, he left the United States to serve in World War II as a medic. He was stationed in the Philippines and Okinawa. When the war ended, he watched the surrender plane fly into Okinawa.

The day that he returned home, he was invited to go to a dance and he danced with the love of his life, Donna Westlake. They married July 15, 1947 and her wedding dress was made of silk that Cliff had brought back from Japan. They celebrated 75 years of marriage this year.

Cliff was a carpenter and proud of the places in the area that he helped build.

His hobby was restoring antique cars. He would build them and Donna would do the upholstery work. They would visit their many friends that also had cars. They would travel to swap meets and if Donna couldn’t go, Cliff would go with friends. He had some wonderful trips. His son-in-law Jiggs got involved working on the cars and learning from Cliff. Cliff and Donna traveled to Canada several times a year to visit collectors of cars.

Cliff decided he would start his own business building the wood car bodies for antique car collectors. He did this until he retired.

He is survived by his wife Donna; his son Gary (Becky) Lawrence, his daughter Judie (Lewis) McKenny; his grandchildren Shauna Coupens, Shay (Terry) Knapp and Brian Lawrence; his great grandchildren Jacie and Keegan Coupens; his brother and sister-in-law Elwin and Doris Lawrence.

Preceding him in death are his parents Opal and Emery; his granddaughter Shannon McKenny, brother Ralph Lawrence and sister-in-law Marilyn Lawrence; sister Ruth Hindman and brother-in-law Bob Hindman; nieces Donna Jean Hindman and Carol Hall; and Nephew Jerry Lawrence.

Graveside services with Military Rites will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the Hay Springs Cemetery with reception to follow at the Hay Springs United Methodist Church after the services.

Lillian Kay Chapman, 62 was born April 9, 1960 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Alvin Ray and Irene Virginia (Turley) Chapman.&nbsp;&nbsp; Lillian, her twin Linda and 5 other siblings grew up on the family farm east of Norfolk.&nbsp; She attended grade school at District 87 in Norfolk and graduated from Norfolk High School in 1978.&nbsp;&nbsp; On June 23, 1978 she was united in marriage to Gary Dean Johnson.&nbsp; To this union two children, Angela and Adam were born.&nbsp; She worked various food service jobs throughout her life.&nbsp; The most recent was Arby’s.&nbsp; She loved serving and visiting with her customers.&nbsp; She lived in Alliance for the last 14 years and worked until she retired due to illness.

Lillian loved her children and grandchildren.&nbsp; She sacrificed of herself for others; in 1985 she gave a kidney to her twin sister.&nbsp; She loved to bake and blessed others with her breads and other baked goods.&nbsp; She battled cancer for over 2 years and spent the last 6 weeks at the Hemingford Community Care Center in Hemingford where she passed away on Saturday September 3, 2022.

Victor was born November 9, 1941, in Eden, Texas to Febronio and Guadalupe (Martinez) Plasencio.&nbsp; He enjoyed boxing in his teenage years.

Victor met and married Gloria Jimenez.&nbsp; Victor worked hard providing for their growing family.&nbsp; He primarily farmed and provided agriculture-related services.&nbsp; He and his family resided in California for about ten years and during that time he owned and operated a mechanic shop.&nbsp; Victor was also employed at Western Sugar for some time.

He was a talented gardener. Victor grew a bountiful harvest every summer until this year when his ill-health prevented him from doing so.&nbsp; He would give away nearly all of the produce to friends, family, and anyone in need throughout the Wyobraska area.&nbsp; He was very considerate and giving to others.&nbsp; Victor was firm when necessary, but everything was done out of love.

Survivors include his siblings, Ysabel Plasencio, Febronio Plasencio Jr., Belen (David) Luna, and Virginia (Joe) Salazar; children, Virginia Plasencio, Victoria Plasencio, Patrick Plasencio, Velma Perez, Victor Mark Plasencio, Veronica Plasencio, Vera May Plasencio, Lupe Plasencio, and Valerie Plasencio; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; his beloved dog, Copper; and countless nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Kenneth Lyle Korte, 80, died August 30, 2022 at his home in Chadron, NE. Ken is survived by his son Jason Korte (wife Nicole) of Alliance, NE and Hilory Martin (husband Joe) of Bayard, NE, grandchildren Hannah, Madison, Emmerae, Madelyn, Makayla and Wyatt and nephew Aaron Manning. He was preceded in death by his father Clem Korte, his mother Laverne (Coons) Korte and his sister Rhonda Varner.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ken was born in Torrington, WY on February 6, 1942. After graduating from Torrington High School Ken later attended Chadron State College where he received a Bachelors Degree in Education. Ken worked as a teacher for a short time in Hyannis, NE and later moved to Helena, MT where he was the director of Montana State Historical Society for a number of years. Later in life Ken moved back to Nebraska and worked for Chadron State College where his last position was Interim Director for the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center on campus. After retirement he worked part time as a bailiff for the Dawes County Courthouse.

Ken was a history buff and loved reading many books about the Civil War. He also had a small collection of memorabilia from that era that he was very proud of. If he wasn’t reading books he enjoyed working on his classic cars. He was also one of the organizers of the classic car show held every year in Chadron.

A memorial service will be held September 6 at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, NE at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.

Dixie Lou Howell, 82, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

She was born August 19, 1940 in Alliance, NE to Arthur Dennis and Thelma Viola (Porter) Sims. At age 16 Dixie was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Alliance.&nbsp;

Shortly after her mother’s passing she married Darrell Lee Howell on December 7, 1957.&nbsp; Dixie worked at various jobs until her and Darrell purchased the Daisy Queen and operated it for 4 years.&nbsp; She then worked for Electric Hose and Rubber Company and Dayco for 25 years before retiring.&nbsp; After retiring her and Darrell traveled in the RV to numerous places until her husband’s health declined.&nbsp; Dixie loved watching her husband race stock cars and later watching her husband and son race together. Her involvement with the races in Alliance included her helping with the concession stand and even racing her husband’s #9 car in the Powder Puff.&nbsp; She also enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens and feeding her animals, the birds and squirrels that were in her yard.

She is survived by her children, Alvie (Lynn) Howell of Alliance, Patty (Michael) Brennan of Gillette, WY, Jacki Howell (Tracy Buskirk) and Kathy Wright (Dean Rippe) all of Alliance, her grandchildren, Lindsay Christen of Cheyenne, WY,&nbsp; Ashley Christen (Jaramie Toedtli) of Alliance, Tyler Howell of Alliance, Elizabeth (Bryant) Smith of Gillette, WY, Christopher (Elizabeth) Brennan of Freeman, MO, James Brennan (Gloria Perez) of Woodland, CA, Jessica (Shaun) Lundy of Alliance, Daniel Moore of Alliance, Jessica&nbsp; (Jonathan) Shockley of Attala, Al, Lennie Rae Wright of Albertville, Al and Cassandra (Michael) Schreiner of Alliance and 21 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Pat Howell of Alliance.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Darrell, her granddaughter, Camile Lee Howell, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest and Elma Howell and her brother-in-law, Gordon Howell.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 7 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with the Reverend Gene Hill officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. A luncheon will follow from Noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Eagles Club. Dian Lee (Kinser) Eggleston was born December 17, 1954, to Morris and Echo Kinser in Alliance, Nebraska. She passed away unexpectedly in her home on August 18, 2022, after battling several illnesses including congestive heart failure. Though Dian’s health continued to fail over the years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. It would be wrong to say that Dian lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, she stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Dian. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.

The youngest of eight children, Dian spent many years in Alliance but also lived in Colorado and South Dakota. She loved camping in the Rocky Mountains, antiquing, searching for treasures at garage sales and flea markets, playing cards, and reading. She was a talented artist and had a flare for interior decorating. Dian valued family and friends and she treasured each and every moment she was able to spend with them. She loved animals, especially dogs, and was known for helping those less fortunate.

Dian is survived by her sons, Dustin and Eric Eggleston, grandson Cameron Eggleston, great- granddaughter Willow, sister, Carol Fraedrich, brother, Ivan Kinser and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Beverly Olson, Derald Kinser, Dan Kinser, Bob Kinser, and William Kinser, and sister-in-laws, Connie Kinser and Roni Kinser.&nbsp; Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.

While Dian’s family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember her in a way that honors her spirit. She was born, Melissa Lou Allen, on May 31st, 1966, to Oscar Dean &amp; Vikki Lou Allen, in Alliance, Nebraska, at St. Joseph Hospital. Melissa attended the Alliance Public Schools. Her favorite memories from her youth were the moments spent at her grandma’s farm, and riding horses with her family. Her loves were God, her children and grandchildren, her family, her friends, music, horses and her two kitties. Melissa enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, her family and her close friends. She loved flowers, long walks, and sunny day drives in the country.

Melissa was preceded in death by her mother, Vikki Lou Allen. Roger Allen Gaertig, 77, left his earthly bonds Friday, August 26, 2022 at Bryan East in Lincoln, NE.&nbsp; He was born October 3, 1944 in Milwaukee, WI to Harry R. Gaertig and Gladys (Hahn) Gaertig. He attended Henry Clay Elementary School and Whitefish Bay High School, Milwaukee, WI. Roger entered the United States Air Force December 6, 1962. He served at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City South Dakota; Pleiku Vietnam, Central Highlands Corps II.&nbsp; He returned to the United States in May, 1966.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged April 1966.&nbsp;

Rog was a houseguest of Tony and Lyda Kuhn in Hemingford, NE from May 1966 until September 3, 1966.&nbsp; He married the love of his life Kathryn Marlene Kuhn on September 3,&nbsp;1966 at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Hemingford, NE. The couple resided in Hemingford for a large portion of their lives. They retired to Hickman, NE where they have spent the last ten years.

Rog was a member of St. Bridget Church (Hemingford), Shephard of the Hills ELCA (Hickman) and Calvary Assembly of God (Alliance).&nbsp; He was a member of the Alliance Legion Club, Hickman Legion Club #105.&nbsp; He served on the Village of Hemingford Board of Trustees, member of the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department for 20 plus years.

Roger was a tractor trailer driver for three years for United Parcel Service (UPS).&nbsp; He then became a package car driver for the remainder of his career.&nbsp; He retired from UPS services 30 years and was a member of the Teamsters local #554.&nbsp; He delivered to the Nebraska Sandhills and was very fond of his customers.&nbsp; He was known as “Rog UPS.”

Roger’s Cathedral and where he was close to God was as an outdoorsman, deer hunter, antelope, pheasant hunting and most of all, fishing.&nbsp; Many a fish fry was hosted at the Gaertig home.

Leaving to mourn his passing are his wife, Kathy, Hickman, NE; daughter, Stacy (Sergio) Medina of Lancaster, OH;&nbsp; Judge Jeffrey (Jeanne) Gaertig of Beatrice, NE; sister Delores (Pete) Nelson of Milwaukee, WI.&nbsp; Grandchildren, Logan (Jane) Zimmerer of Cincinnati, OH; Grant Zimmerer of Lancaster, OH; Michael Medina of Colorado Springs, CO.&nbsp; Kayla, Avery and Mia Gaertig of Beatrice NE.&nbsp; He also leaves behind two great granddaughters, brothers-in-law, Brent (Jeanne) Kuhn, Brian (Sondra) Kuhn, Marty (Jane), Kuhn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Joyce Gaertig, Milwaukee, WI; Howard Gaertig, Milwaukee, WI; Milton Gaertig, Grafton, WI.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the Shephard of the Hills at Hickman, NE with Pastor Ron Drury officiating. &nbsp;Michael Jay Watson, age 73, of Sidney, passed away peacefully throughout the night at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins on Monday, August 22, 2022. Michael Jay Watson was born in Hobbs, New Mexico on February 23rd, 1949 to J.D. and Grace (Parks) Watson. Mike graduated from Sidney High School in 1967. Following high school, he enlisted in the US Navy where he served two years as a Signalman. In his time there, he lost the tip of his finger to a hatch door on his Naval Ship and encountered a sunburn so bad that he was charged by the US Marshals for destruction of US Property. He attended the University of Houston for a brief time before deciding to move back to Sidney, NE. Mike was married to Cecilia (Bauerkemper) Watson in his final 12 years of life. Throughout Mike’s career, he held a variety of professions including Insurance sales, spending time as a co-owner and operator of a Motel and RV park, and time in car sales, before landing in his primary profession within Cabela's as the Risk Manager. Mike worked at Cabela’s for over 20 years, retiring in 2012. Mike enjoyed playing softball on traveling teams early in life and shared his love of baseball with his kids by helping coach little league. He raised his children to be passionate in what they believed, and to be strong and independent. He had a lifelong enjoyment for the game of Golf, along with spending time with his close friends and family. Even up to his final days Mike relished completing a good crossword puzzle.

Gretchen Marie Ione (Pederson) Ramirez, age 67, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska passed away at home on Thursday, August 18, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Gretchen was born April 17, 1955 in Kimball, Nebraska, to Anton and Violet (Harms) Pederson. She was a CNA for many years in addition to being mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

There will be no formal visitation and cremation has been performed per the family's wishes. A rosary and mass will occur Friday, August 26, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1102 12th Avenue, Scottsbluff, Nebraska 69361. Judy was born September 16, 1947 in Rushville NE to William T. and Mildred (Masek) Dawkins. Judy grew up in Chadron Nebraska, and graduated high School from there in 1966.

She met her husband, Robert “Bob” Connell of Whitney Nebraska, and they were married May 26th, 1968 in Chadron. They moved to Sidney NE, and eventually moved to Scottsbluff NE, after Bob graduated from WNCC. They started an auto body business (Dent Tech) from 1986-2004.

The couple had two children Jill Lynn, and Michael Wayne. Judy was active in league bowling and she and Bob both had teams that their business sponsored. In her final years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and her family.

Judy had one brother (Bill III) Dawkins and 2 nephews. She also had many aunts and uncles and cousins that she was very close to from childhood to adulthood.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Jill Connell of Fort Collins CO, son Michael (Jaimie) Connell and three grandchildren, Jacob, Drake, and Gage all of Scottsbluff NE, brother Bill III Dawkins of Chadron NE, and his two children and grandchildren, mother, Mildred Dawkins of Chadron NE and brother and sister in-law Bill(Joyce) Connell of Platte Center, NE, and their six children and many grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Connell, an infant son, father and mother in-law Clarence and Mary Connell, and her father William T Dawkins II. She will be terribly missed by her family and friends.

Born on December 10, 1927, in Brownsville, Texas, Beth was the oldest of Florence and Charles (“Ted”) Hudson’s four children. She grew up on her family’s citrus farm in the lower Rio Grande Valley. There, near the Mexican border, Beth learned Spanish and enjoyed playing among the farm’s grapefruit, orange, tangerine, and kumquat trees. She often accompanied her father on his nightly walks through the orchard. She remembered his discovery of the world’s first ruby-red grapefruit, which he named “Ted’s Red” and worked for decades to cultivate for sale.

Beth graduated from San Benito High School, where students voted her “Best All-Round Girl.” She then attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied English and Spanish and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Beth was an associate justice of the student court and president of the university’s Orange Jackets, a selective group of 20 outstanding women who performed campus services, such as running campus voting and ushering large events. She was also a Mortar Board member and among nine women named outstanding students by The Cactus, her senior class yearbook.

World War II ended just as Beth began her sophomore year, and the campus soon swelled with returning veterans. One of those men was John (“Jack”) H. Chain, whom Beth first met in a rainstorm during the summer before her senior year. On their first date, Jack began wooing her with a gourmet picnic. They married on June 25, 1949, immediately after Beth’s college graduation.

Jack was a petroleum engineer and initially employed by an oil company called American Republics. The company posted Beth and Jack to Artesia, New Mexico, where their daughter, Priscilla, was born in December 1950. The company later transferred the family to Midland, Texas, where son John was born in February 1953. Because of Jack’s desire to work as an independent oil operator, the family moved to Scottsbluff later that year.

The couple made their permanent home here, where Beth was active in civic and religious life. She taught at various schools, including Western Nebraska Community College. She served on the Scottsbluff Public Library Board and was instrumental in arranging the design and construction of its current facility. Beth was also a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and an early and strong supporter of Community Christian School. Additionally, Beth was a founder and chairwoman of the Scottsbluff Christian Women’s Club. As a presenter for this organization, she traveled in the Midwest to explain how God, faith, and family helped her survive the untimely and unexpected death of her daughter. Beth was similarly active in Alexandria, Minnesota, where she and Jack spent their summers.

Beth was warm, loving, and loyal to her family. As just one example, she arranged every aspect of care for her learning-disabled brother for nearly 40 years. Beth was also curious, adventurous, and a life-long learner. She enjoyed travel, birdwatching, gardening, wild flowers, bridge, history, and classical music. She was a gracious and generous host with long-time friends from all walks of life. Her favorite activity was spending time with Jack, who also inspired her to ski, golf, canoe, and fish.

Beth was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 65 years; her daughter, Priscilla Chain Beck; her parents; and her siblings – Charles, Jim, and Ann. She is survived by her son, John Chain, and daughter-in-law, Cynthia (Skiles) Chain, of Overland Park, Kansas; her son-in-law, William Beck, of San Antonio, Texas; her four grandchildren – Amanda Beck and husband Stephen Cody of Somerville, Massachusetts; Rebecca McDonald and husband Jefferey McDonald of Overland Park, Kansas; Zachary Chain of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Alexandra Chain of Brooklyn, New York; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

Lawrence “Larry” Henry Joseph Niehues was born June 24, 1953 in Axtel, Kansas. He was the first of seven children born to Aloysius and Clara Niehues. He passed away peacefully in his sleep August 19, 2022 in Chadron with his daughter and granddaughter by his side.

Larry grew up in Corning, Kansas and moved to and settled in Nebraska in the late 70’s. He met and married his late wife, Marty, in Gordon, Nebraska in 1980. He became step-father to Marty’s three children and welcomed his daughter Nikki in 1981 and son Mathew in 1984.

Larry was a loving and caring father and grandfather who was very proud of his children and adored his granddaughters. Larry had a great love for the outdoors which he passed on to his children. Larry was generous and kind and looked out for others and helped in any way that he could and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.&nbsp;

Larry is survived by his children: Nikki Niehues (partner: George Overton) of Lead, SD, Matt (Lacey) Niehues of Chadron. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Step-children: Mari (Denis) Rous of Martin, SD, Rick Shedeed of Rushville, NE, and Stephanie (Leonard) Gottwald of Hastings, NE. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

worked for KSKU radio and KTPS television.&nbsp; In 1976, the family moved to
 North Platte, Nebraska, where he worked as a communications specialist for 
the Union Pacific Railroad’s Baily Yards and as chief engineer for 
KELN/KOOQ radio.&nbsp; Both he and Connie volunteered countless hours to 
Nebraskaland Days, the official Nebraska state celebration.&nbsp; In 2000, 
they received the prestigious Dale Studley Award.&nbsp; They also were host 
parents for 24 years to more than 100 North Platte Community College 
basketball players.

In 2006, Gary and Connie retired and returned to Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He 
stayed active in many local nonprofit groups until his passing.&nbsp; These 
include Friends of the Hutchinson Public Library, Central Kansas 
Corvette Association, Reno County Amateur Radio Association, and Central
 Kansas Model Railroaders.&nbsp; For several years he also operated excursion
 trains for the Abilene &amp; Smoky Valley Railroad.

Gary is survived by his daughter Gina Long of Hutchinson, Kansas, son Tim 
Long of Clayton, Ohio; and grandsons Andrew Ysac of Hutchinson, Kansas and Noah 
Long of MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Connie, his parents, a brother Warren Essells and sister Majorie Colcord.

Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held on 
Wednesday August 24, 2022, at 10 am at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson, Kansas with 
Pastor Wayne DeWindt officiating. Gary will be escorted to his final 
resting place by the Central Kansas Corvette Association.

Patsy Barnett passed into the arms of her creator early in the morning of August 15, 2022 after a fierce battle with COVID and pneumonia. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Heule, and is survived by her brother, Lonnie Finley, her daughter, Neaomi Finley, her seven grandchildren, her fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.&nbsp;

Patsy was an unstoppable force of nature who had faced insurmountable challenges for nearly her entire life, and still managed to come out on top of it all. She felt a deep connection to her Mother Earth and did her best to enrich the lives of those she loved. She will be dearly missed, and her fighting spirit will carry on through those who remember her.&nbsp;

Willis Delbert Orr was born on September 22, 1924, to Chris and Lydia Orr in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; He grew up on the family ranch north of Green Lake and east of Pine Creek that was homesteaded by the Spoor family, purchased by his grandfather, Jefferson Orr, and developed by Jefferson and his son Chris.&nbsp; The nearest town was Rushville, located roughly 34 miles north and west of the ranch.&nbsp; He attended grade school at the one room rural School District 133 and participated in all the normal activities of ranch life from working animals with horses to putting up hay with horse drawn equipment.&nbsp; He experienced the conversion from horse to machine.&nbsp;&nbsp; Willis attended high school in Rushville and developed a love of music playing tenor saxophone. He met the love of his life while in high school, Betty Jean Nehren, and they were married on July 4, 1944.&nbsp;

Willis had many interests from music, plant ID, astronomy, reading, and sports including bowling and golf.&nbsp;&nbsp; He served his community in many capacities including the District 133 school board, 4-H Club advisor and instructor, Church board in multiple positions at Pleasant Point Community Church, and he was elected to the ASCS County Committee for numerous terms.

After retirement in the early 1990’s and Betty’s passing in 1996, Willis lived on the ranch until approximately 2008 at which time he rotated among his kids homes.&nbsp; In approximately 2016, Dad moved into Pioneer manor in Hay Springs where he lived until his passing on August 7th, 2022, just 49 days short of his 98th birthday. What an amazingly varied and interesting life for “just another old rancher from the outback Sandhills of Nebraska”.

Services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022, 10:30 AM at Pleasant Point Community Church, south of Gordon, NE.

Delbert (Del) Frank Serbousek, a retired entrepreneur and long-time resident of Phoenix, AZ died on August 9th, 2022, at the age of 87 in Phoenix.

Del is survived by his sister Mardell Horn; his children Lamont Serbousek, Marla Serbousek and Melinda Torres; his stepdaughters Wanda Medina and Vickie Welsh; His grandchildren Hope Medina, Becky Medina, Racheal Medina, Phillip McNaughton, Jennifer Sanchez, Brandi Watkins, Whitney Torres, Keith Adams, Lamont Serbouesk JR, and Leilani Serbousek; His nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildern.&nbsp; He is predeceased by his Sister Darlene Perreten; his father Frank Serbousek; his mother Libby Serbousek; His wives Phyllis Serbousek and Winifred Serbousek.

Del was born in Hay Springs, NE on April 20th, 1935, to Frank and Libby Serbousek.&nbsp; He was the second of three children.&nbsp; He grew up on the Serbousek ranch in Beaver Valley and attended Hay Springs High School.&nbsp; After high school he served in the topographical corps of the US Army from 1952 until 1954.&nbsp; He also serviced in the US Air Force as both a radio technician and a radio technician instructor from 1954 until 1961.&nbsp; After leaving military service Del worked in several trades, including as an electronics technician and as an elevator technician in both Utah and Arizona before permanently settling in Phoenix and opening the first electronics calibration lab in the state of Arizona in 1964.&nbsp; He continued to grow and expand his business while starting several other entrepreneurial endeavors until he retired in 2010.&nbsp; On June 7th, 1962, he married Winifred Everett in Salt Lake City, UT.&nbsp; On January 25th, 1968, July 11th, 1969, July 12th, 1971, respectively, he welcomed his son and two daughters.&nbsp; He was widowed in November 1972.&nbsp; He then married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Kadlecek in 1976 and welcomed his two stepdaughters.&nbsp; He was widowed for a second time when Phyllis passed over in 2004.

Del had a strong entrepreneurial spirit as evidenced by his many successful business endeavors.&nbsp; He was incredibility kind, outgoing and loved as evidenced by the many friends he collected throughout the years.&nbsp; He was a loving and caring father and grandfather who was very proud of his children and adored his grandchildren.&nbsp; Del struggled with alcoholism during the early part of his life until finally obtaining full sobriety in 1982 after joining Alcoholics Anonymous.&nbsp; He was very proud of his 40 years of sobriety and remained active in Alcoholics Anonymous sponsoring and helping hundreds of people through their recovery journeys over three plus decades.&nbsp; Del also enjoyed doting over his great grandchildren and gambling at the local Phoenix casinos.

A funeral service is scheduled at 2:00 PM on August 27th&nbsp;at the Hay Springs United Methodist Church on Miller Street in Hay Springs, NE.&nbsp; Flowers, donations and condolences can be offered at&nbsp;11707 Elk Head Range Rd. Littleton, CO 80127.
