Rita Jean Serna Ash, 64, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at her home in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp;

She was born December 14, 1957 in Hardin, Montana to Guadalupe and Ninfa (Jimenez) Serna.

She married Jon Ash on April 24, 1976 in Sheridan, Wyoming.

Rita devoted her life to her family and helping anyone who needed it. She was known throughout the community as Mama Rita. Her greatest pastime was music, whether it was playing, listening or singing. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her husband, Jon Ash of Alliance; her children, Joni Ash of Alliance and Fernando and Heather Ash of Hemingford; seven grandchildren, Trevor and Brittany Benge of Axtell, Tanner and Ashley Benge of Kearney, Kamryn Ash of Hemingford, Moses Ash of Alliance, Zachary and Melanie Kobza of Beatrice, Kaylob Kobza of Lincoln, and Bella Ash of Torrington, WY; three great-grandchildren, Jasper Dean Haak of Casper, WY, Asher Randolph of Hemingford, and Quinton Benge of Axtell.&nbsp; She is also survived by her five siblings, Marty (Jim) Feldhaus of Columbus, NE, Guadalupe (Laurie) Serna of Dallas, TX, Delia Sees of Sheridan WY, Alicia Cassell of Fort Collins, CO, and Fernando (Millie) Serna of Sheridan, WY; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Juan Serna, her nephew Robert Alley and her son Jerry Ash.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.&nbsp; Father Matt Koperski will officiate.&nbsp; Visitation will be held at the Bates-Gould Chapel on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Albert J. Soto, Sr., 93, of Alliance, Nebraska passed away on May 10, 2022.&nbsp;

Albert was born June 16, 1928 to Concepcion and Ysabel (Ayala) Soto.&nbsp; Albert was one of five children.

On August 19, 1950, Albert was united in marriage to Margaret E. Vera of Bayard, Nebraska and to that union they had two children, Albert Soto, Jr. and Sandra Soto-Mortaro.&nbsp;

During Albert’s years in Alliance, after having lost his father at a very young age, he had to find employment in order to provide for the family and eventually became employed with the Burlington Northern Railroad.&nbsp; After his retirement from the railroad he enjoyed spending time gardening, meticulously tending to his yard, visiting his grandchildren and visiting old railroad buddies.&nbsp; Albert was particularly adept at fixing things and was an avid learner of construction. As devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, he held strong to his faith and regularly attended mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Albert’s survivors include his wife, Margaret; son, Albert Soto, Jr.; daughter, Sandra (Peter) Mortaro, grandchildren, Anton, Eric (Dana), Koren (Troy) and Jill (Chris) , and great grandchildren, Molly, Kady, Liam, Cameron, Gabriella and Tristan; sister, Margaret Sanchez of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and brother, Alfred (Jayne) Soto, of Cheyenne, Wyoming;&nbsp; brother-in-laws Tomas Vera of Tucson, &nbsp;Arizona and Ernest (Lucille) Vera of Bayard, Nebraska, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Helen Vallejo and Marie Vallejo and family friend, Pilar Vasquez and Pilar’s daughter, Rosie (Vasquez) Arouchon.

Special thanks and blessings to the ministers of the church, friends and extended family members who visited and helped them during the transitions they had to endure.&nbsp;

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Holy Rosary Church on Monday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Matt Koperski officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.&nbsp;

Johnny Glen Mundt, 85 of Alliance, Nebraska passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022 in Bridgeport, Nebraska.

His memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 10:00 am at the Alliance Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com.

Johnny was born on September 22, 1936 in Alliance, Nebraska to Albert and Ella (Lance) Mundt. He attended school in Alliance, graduating from Alliance High School.

He married Marci in 1962 and made their home on the family farm. They had four children Deborah, Brad, Kari and Cory. They were all raised on the family farm west of Berea. After Marci passed in 1989, Johnny and his son Cory moved to Alliance. He loved to be out doors, hunting, fishing, and farming. He loved to go for daily walks. He always loved to be around all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was always working and loved each of his jobs. Many times he would hold two to three jobs at a time. He loved taking the grandchildren out to the farm job to go riding in the tractors with him.

He worked for many farmers also worked for cleaning the railroad and also working for Keep Alliance Beautiful. Even with the many jobs he was working, he always found time for all the grandchildren. Anytime you would see him, he would always be talking to someone catching up with them.

Survivors include his brother Alvin Mundt; children Debora and Robyn Hall-Mundt, Kari and John Rebillet and Cory Mundt; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

His was preceded in death by his wife Marci, son Brad and numerous brothers and sisters.

Johnny G. Mundt (1936 - 2022)

It is with a heavy heart and sad soul to report the passing of Will Leishman on April 25, 2022 at Alliance, NE. He will always be in our thoughts and memories, gone but never forgotten.

William Delmer “Will” Leishman was born March 6, 1974. Will started early life growing up at the family’s homestead ranch in Ellsworth, Nebraska with his Grandparent’s Delmer and Ada Leishman (both passed). He loved working with his Grandpa on the ranch and learned how to how to manage cattle on a ranch along with a very good work ethic.

He spent a year with his mother Debra (Kommers) Cheshire and step-father David Cheshire, while David was serving in the United States Air Force. These were a great time for the family, creating great memories in the Sicilian culture.

Will returned to the family ranch where he continued operations until he was in a significant auto accident leaving him severely disabled. He spent his final years at a care facility in Hemingford, Nebraska, where he passed away from unforeseen medical complications.

Will had a gregarious personality, always in for a good laugh or a good tease! Everyone was always welcome at his place for a cup of coffee or a beer. He had insurmountable stories that he enjoyed telling, which would end up with a laugh or smile.

He will be missed, but he is in a better place now surrounded by family with the ability to walk and run through the Nebraska Sandhills which he truly loved.

He is survived by his mother , Debra Cheshire, his father ,&nbsp; Randy Leishman, his stepfather, David Cheshire,&nbsp; his sisters,&nbsp; Brandi Wonacott and her husband Andrew Wonacott and Cristy Romero and her husband Riley Romero and his brother , Clint Leishman.

William Delmer 'Will' Leishman (1974 - 2022)

Gary Leroy Butler was born May 19th, 1940, to James and Madeline Butler in Chadron, NE. When he was only five years old, his mother passed away and he went to live with his paternal grandparents, T.J. and Grace Butler in Chadron, Nebraska. Gary grew up working in their large garden with his grandmother and grandfather. A trout stream ran through their farm, so Gary had an early start for his love of fishing.

Gary graduated from Chadron High School in 1958, where he was a star quarterback for the football team.

He joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1960-1964 before returning to Nebraska, where he worked and attended Chadron College. He received a Master's Degree in School Administration. He married Shirley Johnson, a young widow with three little boys.  Gary was a devoted father, raising Larry, Jerry and Gene along with the twins, Tim and Tara, who were born to his union with Shirley.

Gary loved sports, serving as a coach at the high school in Agra, Kansas, where he taught business classes in addition to his coaching duties. later he began his banking career. He began at the Farmers National Bank in Agra, preceded to Rocky Ford, Colorado, then moving to Milan, Missouri, and Savannah, Missouri. 

Gary married Wilma Gower in the Methodist Church in Agra December 16. 1979. They enjoyed 42 years together. After his retirement in January of 2001, Gary and Wilma moved to a rural home by Trimble, Missouri, near Smithville Lake, where he could indulge full time in his passion for fishing. They joined the Methodist Church in Paradise and were active members there. Gary also enjoyed playing pool and sharing food at the Senior Center in Smithville.

Gary passed away peacefully at his home on May 1, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Wilma; his sons Larry (Gail), Jerry, Gene (Danette), and Tim (Amy), and his daughter Tara. Other family members include eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, his brothers, Dale, Scott, Curt and Criss.

His memory will be cherished by his many friends and family members.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. in the West Cedar Cemetery with Rev. Rob Ernest officiating with Military Honors by the Agra American Legion.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Paradise United Methodist Church or the Trimble, MO Fire Dept.

Jean Drinkwalter (1925 - 2022)

Danielle Lynn Heckman (Reeve) or as many called her, &nbsp;"Little Red" or "D", a former lifelong resident&nbsp;of Box Butte County, passed away in her home in Lincoln Nebraska, on April 27, 2022.

Danielle was born July 16, 1970, in Alliance, Nebraska to Darrell W. Reeve and Leonida M. Todd. &nbsp;In union with her former husband,1970 Tom Heckman of Alliance, their son Arik Heckman was born. Also, in this union she gained two step-daughters, Jessica Wyatt (Heckman) and Alexis Johnson (Heckman), who&nbsp;throughout her life also meant the world to her.&nbsp;

Danielle was previously employed at Woolrich, the YMCA, and Players Sports Bar in Alliance. She later became the successful business owner of Espresso Lane Coffee Shop also in Alliance. &nbsp;She did this for many years from 2006 until 2020. &nbsp;She looked forward to seeing her regular customers in the community, and always appreciated meeting new customers along the way! &nbsp;Quiet times at the coffee shop meant reading a good book, visiting with great friends, brushing up with the family, and creating and trying new drinks. &nbsp;All the while still managing to always have time for her visitors there and lending a listening ear to everyone's joys and concerns. &nbsp;Danielle spent a big chunk of her life actively participating in the local YMCA events and activities, as she and her family were active in many sports at the facility, especially racquetball.

Some of Danielle’s passions and priorities were supporting her son Arik in his hobbies, and his passion for scootering! &nbsp;She made it a priority to take him and his friends, along with her nephews to scootering competitions and exploring other skate parks around the region. &nbsp;

Danielle found inspiration in passages from the Bible and would often post them within her space. &nbsp;She was affiliated with the Berean Church and Pastor Russell with the Break Free Agape Fellowship Church. &nbsp;She thoroughly enjoyed reading, listening to music, dancing, sporting events, husker games, attending concerts, snow skiing with her kids and family, days&nbsp;at the lake and watersports like tubing and boating, traveling&nbsp;and social events. &nbsp;Also, in her love of the outdoors and life, Danielle throughout the years, grew all sorts of plants ranging from beautiful flowers assorted in beautiful flower beds to vegetable gardens and pots. &nbsp;

As an animal lover, Danielle loved her cats and dogs especially her boxers, Blossom and Riddick!&nbsp;

Anyone that knew Danielle knows her son Arik was her heart, and they also knew how special her step-daughters Jess and Alex were to her. &nbsp;She maintained a very close bond with them, and often talked about and looked forward to her next trip out to see them and their families in Texas. &nbsp;

Danielle was fully engaged in life and the life of her close friends and family. &nbsp;She poured her heart and soul into her loved ones and her relationships. &nbsp;There was no limit to the amount of love she had to give.

She relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska three years ago to explore new avenues and ventures in career and life. &nbsp;Upon moving to Lincoln, she took up jobs involving gardening, fostering her love for plants and continued her work in coffee and food service at Bagels and Joe and was looking forward to future adventures to see close friends in Florida and more trips back to Texas.&nbsp;

Danielle is survived by her son, Arik Heckman of Fort Worth Texas, her mother, Leonida Todd of Aurora, Nebraska, her siblings Tim Wilkins (Bunny Todd) of Aurora, Nebraska, Cindy Wilkins of Glenrock, Wyoming, Susan Wilkins of Gering, Nebraska, Tannya Reeve (Brian Jensen) of Alliance, Melodie Reeve of Alliance, and Thomas Reeve of Norfolk, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;Danielle is preceded in death by her father, Darrell Reeve and her grandparents. &nbsp;

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Pastor Russell Saito officiating.&nbsp; Following the service, a gathering will be held at the Nineteenth Hole Banquet Center, Alliance Municipal Golf Course. &nbsp;

 </figure>Danielle Lynn Heckman (Reeve) or as many called her, &nbsp;"Little Red" or "D", a former lifelong resident&nbsp;of Box Butte County, passed away in her home in Lincoln Nebraska, on April 27, 2022.Danielle was born July 16, 1970, in Alliance, Nebraska to Darrell W. Reeve and Leonida M. Todd. &nbsp;In union with her former husband,1970 Tom Heckman of Alliance, their son Arik Heckman was born. Also, in this union she gained two step-daughters, Jessica Wyatt (Heckman) and Alexis Johnson (Heckman), who&nbsp;throughout her life also meant the world to her.&nbsp;Danielle was previously employed at Woolrich, the YMCA, and Players Sports Bar in Alliance. She later became the successful business owner of Espresso Lane Coffee Shop also in Alliance. &nbsp;She did this for many years from 2006 until 2020. &nbsp;She looked forward to seeing her regular customers in the community, and always appreciated meeting new customers along the way! &nbsp;Quiet times at the coffee shop meant reading a good book, visiting with great friends, brushing up with the family, and creating and trying new drinks. &nbsp;All the while still managing to always have time for her visitors there and lending a listening ear to everyone's joys and concerns. &nbsp;Danielle spent a big chunk of her life actively participating in the local YMCA events and activities, as she and her family were active in many sports at the facility, especially racquetball.Some of Danielle’s passions and priorities were supporting her son Arik in his hobbies, and his passion for scootering! &nbsp;She made it a priority to take him and his friends, along with her nephews to scootering competitions and exploring other skate parks around the region. &nbsp;Danielle found inspiration in passages from the Bible and would often post them within her space. &nbsp;She was affiliated with the Berean Church and Pastor Russell with the Break Free Agape Fellowship Church. &nbsp;She thoroughly enjoyed reading, listening to music, dancing, sporting events, husker games, attending concerts, snow skiing with her kids and family, days&nbsp;at the lake and watersports like tubing and boating, traveling&nbsp;and social events. &nbsp;Also, in her love of the outdoors and life, Danielle throughout the years, grew all sorts of plants ranging from beautiful flowers assorted in beautiful flower beds to vegetable gardens and pots. &nbsp;As an animal lover, Danielle loved her cats and dogs especially her boxers, Blossom and Riddick!&nbsp;Anyone that knew Danielle knows her son Arik was her heart, and they also knew how special her step-daughters Jess and Alex were to her. &nbsp;She maintained a very close bond with them, and often talked about and looked forward to her next trip out to see them and their families in Texas. &nbsp;Danielle was fully engaged in life and the life of her close friends and family. &nbsp;She poured her heart and soul into her loved ones and her relationships. &nbsp;There was no limit to the amount of love she had to give.She relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska three years ago to explore new avenues and ventures in career and life. &nbsp;Upon moving to Lincoln, she took up jobs involving gardening, fostering her love for plants and continued her work in coffee and food service at Bagels and Joe and was looking forward to future adventures to see close friends in Florida and more trips back to Texas.&nbsp;Danielle is survived by her son, Arik Heckman of Fort Worth Texas, her mother, Leonida Todd of Aurora, Nebraska, her siblings Tim Wilkins (Bunny Todd) of Aurora, Nebraska, Cindy Wilkins of Glenrock, Wyoming, Susan Wilkins of Gering, Nebraska, Tannya Reeve (Brian Jensen) of Alliance, Melodie Reeve of Alliance, and Thomas Reeve of Norfolk, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;Danielle is preceded in death by her father, Darrell Reeve and her grandparents. &nbsp;Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Pastor Russell Saito officiating.&nbsp; Following the service, a gathering will be held at the Nineteenth Hole Banquet Center, Alliance Municipal Golf Course. &nbsp;Memorials, cards, and flowers may be given to the donor's choice.IN REMEMBRANCE OF DANIELLE LETS ALL REMEMBER HER BRIGHT SMILE THAT COULD LIGHT UP A ROOM AND HER CONTAGIOUS LAUGHTER... &nbsp;as we look up and picture her beautiful soul dancing in the skies! &nbsp;Online condolences may be left at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.batesgould.com/" target="_blank">www.batesgould.com</a>

Danielle Lynn Heckman (Reeve) (1970 - 2022)

Edward (Ed) Chipperfield, 92, of Alliance, Nebraska, passed away on April 19, 2022.&nbsp; He was affectionately known to many as Chip or Pops.

Ed was born on October 4, 1929 to Walter and Mary (Thompson) Chipperfield in Lincoln, Nebraska. Later Walter married Luella (Lue) and she became his mother and role model.&nbsp; Lue was a positive influence and had a major impact on Ed's life. He graduated high school from Northeast High School in Lincoln, NE.

Ed met and married Alliance native Eldora Rader in 1952.&nbsp; They were married 65 years before Eldora passed away in 2017. Together they raised six children, Luella (Jayne), Raymond, Breck, Dwight, Angela and Elizabeth. They remained lifelong Alliance residents. Ed was a member of the Alliance Berean Church, where he was known as Pops.

Ed spent his childhood years living in Lincoln. At the age of 16, he proudly joined the Nebraska National Guard. Upon graduation, he and his dog Cloe relocated to Alliance to pursue a full time job with the Nebraska National Guard and to help run the Armory. Ed obtained the rank of Sergeant First Class and retired from the National Guard after 27 years of service to his country. Something he was extremely proud of.&nbsp; Throughout his life, he used his mechanics skills to help others. Ed worked in gas stations, including owning his own service station at one time.&nbsp; He eventually went to work for the BNSF railroad as an electrician. &nbsp;Upon retirement you could find Ed working in his yard, maintaining his gardens and chatting with friends and neighbors. He knew no stranger and loved visiting and telling stories about his life.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Lue, wife, Eldora Chipperfield, daughters, Luella (Jayne) Chipperfield and Angela Letcher. He is survived by his remaining children, Raymond (Karen) Chipperfield, Breck (Greg Jones) Chipperfield, Dwight (Shelly) Chipperfield and Beth (Anthony) Picket Pen, his sister Margaret (Peggy) Marshall of California, nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and his best friend and loyal puppy Skipper.

A memorial service will be Monday, May 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Alliance Berean Church, 1639 Emerson, followed by a graveside service at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at 12:00 at the Alliance Eagles Club.

Virginia Ann 'Ginny' Warren, 91 of Gering, Nebraska passed away at the Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff Thursday, May 4, 2022.

Her visitation will start at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with rosary service at 10:00 a.m. Her Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 at the church with Fr. Mike McDonald officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the family to be designated at a later date. Fond memories and condolences may be shared on&nbsp;<a href="http://www.geringchapel.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">www.geringchapel.com</a>. Gering Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Virginia “Ginny” was born on June 2, 1930 to John and Theresa Zyntek in Elba, Nebraska. She grew up with two other siblings, Ray Zyntek and Renee (Ralph) Brenning. She lived in Georgia and various communities in western Nebraska before settling in Gering, Nebraska.

She married Bill S Warren on August 19, 1952 and to this union they had four children. Tom (Deb) Warren, Carol Silvers-Walgren, Jim (Cindy) Warren and Janelle (Karl) Burns, and three step children, Mike Warren, Sharon (Lester) Beekman and Billy Jr. Warren. Eleven Grandchildren and nine Great Grandchildren.

She worked at several restaurants in the community including the Eagles Café, King Fong, Copper Kettle, Stable Club and the Elks Lodge. She enjoyed serving and interacting with the public. Virginia was a life time member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her family during the holidays. Her family and faith were very important to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill S Warren, daughter Carol Silvers-Walgren, sister Renee Brenning, brother Ray Zyntek, mother Theresa Zyntek, grandson Jason Silvers, step sons Mike Warren and Billy Jr Warren, step daughter Sharon Beekman, and step granddaughters Marlena Kampbell and Julie Warren.

An incredible woman left this earthly place to be amongst the angels this past week.&nbsp; Grace Lucille Rose, 91, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Box Butte General Hospital with her family at her side.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 11th, 10:00 a.m. at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, with The Reverend Richard C. Mueller officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; Public visitation will be Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 from 2:00 p.m-6:00 p.m., with family being present at 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. &nbsp;at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home, Alliance, Nebraska.

Grace was born October 21, 1930 in Hemingford Nebraska to Ora Oliver and Clarissa (Hand) Carter.&nbsp; After attending Hemingford schools, she joined the workforce at the Alliance Creamery until she met Dwayne Rose. Grace and Dwayne married March 28, 1951 in Scottsbluff, NE, and to this union, six children were born.&nbsp; They made their home in the Hemingford area for a few years until they moved to Alliance, Nebraska in 1954. In 1961, the growing family moved to the farm south of Alliance until Dwayne’s retirement in 2000.&nbsp;

Grace was an active member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she served many years on the Altar committee and was also an active volunteer with the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program.&nbsp; Grace was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband, Dwayne, her children, Lucy Gressley of Alliance, Doris (Larry) Gran of Belle Fourche, SD, Nancy (Tom) Neal of Harrisburg, NE, Marlene Rose (Steve Thompson) of Alliance and Dwayne Rose Jr. of Tacoma, WA.&nbsp; She is also survived by her grandchildren Toby Neal, Kathleen (Cory) Johnson, Dustin (Jeanne) Marx, Kendra Marx, Alicia (James) Hansen, Ashley Rose, Emily Gran (Josh O’Handly), and Jessica (Taylor) Ruzicka.&nbsp; Great grandchildren-Layne, Natalie, Logan, Jayden, Tristin, Aubree, Torri, Liam, and Espyn along with several nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her son, Marvin, her parents and beloved in-laws. She was the last surviving sibling to her brothers and sisters, Raymond Carter, Dean Carter, Mary Loflin, Lillian Tuma, Walter Carter, Roland Carter and LaVerne Carter.

Courtney P. Sherfey, 33, died Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at her home in Hemingford.

She was born March 9, 1989 in Brainerd, Minnesota to Christopher Paul and Shannon Marie (Groess) Goulson.

Courtney enjoyed music, gaming and spending time with her friends.&nbsp; She also liked watching movies, especially The Night Before Christmas.&nbsp; She loved the outdoors, camping and fishing.&nbsp; She especially loved her cats and her dog.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Shannon and Craig Peterson of Gurley; her father, Christopher Goulson of Pine River, MN; her fiancé and his children, Lyle, Abel and Evie Coker of Hemingford; her sister, Stephanie Peterson of Enderlin, ND; her brothers, Tyler (Jackie) Christofferson and Cody (Alicia) Christofferson, all of Alliance; her grandfather, Jim Groess of Tampa, FL; and her grandmother, Carol Goulson of Minnesota.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Courtney’s life will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Lee Franklin of Hemingford, Nebraska passed away February 8, 2022 with his wife Pat by his side. Lee was born in Broken Bow, Nebraska April 5, 1935 to Howard and Fanny Franklin.

He joined the Navy in April 1956 then in October 1956 he joined the crew of the USS Everglades. He worked on many Ranches as well as being a Welder.

He is survived by his wife Pat Franklin of Hemingford, NE,&nbsp; his brother,&nbsp; Jerry (Penny) Franklin of Torrington, Wyoming, his sons,&nbsp; Mark (Shawna) Franklin of Gordon, Nebraska, George (Brenda) Franklin of Alliance ,Nebraska, Charles (Leslie) Franklin of Alliance, Nebraska, his daughters,&nbsp; Duana (Clyde) Davis of Elwood, Nebraska, Sabrina( Kevin) Terrell Alliance.&nbsp; Stepdaughters Patty (Dan) Anderson Hemingford, Nebraska,&nbsp; Kristy (Steve) Brown of Lincoln, Nebraska, Katrina(Rodney) Weeks o fLouisburg, MO and Dawn(Kirk) Oetken Belmont, NE.

Angela (Angie) Lapaseotes, 57, of Bridgeport passed away unexpectedly at her home on the night of April 27th, 2022. She had been battling cancer for two months, with her final treatment taking place just one week before her passing.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Bayard from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with the prayer service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, May 4th at 10:00 a.m. at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Bayard, with a live stream at the Prairie Winds Community Center in Bridgeport. Burial will follow at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery in Bridgeport.

Angie was born on Friday, November 13th, 1964 to Richard and Dorothy Stull at St. Joseph Hospital in Alliance, NE. The family moved to Valentine, NE in 1973 where Angie lived until she graduated from Valentine High School in 1983. Angie’s family moved to Bridgeport in February of 1983, however she chose to stay in Valentine with a family friend until she graduated a few months later. In May of 1983, after graduating, she moved to Bridgeport to be with her family. Angie attended St. Mary’s College in Kansas for one semester before deciding that college wasn’t for her. She returned to Bridgeport and started working at Masid Chevrolet.

Shortly after moving back, she started dating Nick Lapaseotes and the two were married on June 18th, 1989. They welcomed their first child, Alexandra (Alexa), on February 22nd, 1991 and two years later on April 23rd,1993 they welcomed their second child, Nicholas.

Along with Masid Chevrolet, she had also worked at Bridgeport State Bank, RK Nelson Associates and Lapaseotes LTD. Angie and her sister Julie started doing craft fairs as a hobby, until they decided to partner and start a business in 2001 called The Tarnished Halo. The two sisters co-owned the business until 2018, when Angie became the sole owner. Angie decided to retire and sell her business in 2021 after an impressive twenty-year run! A major reason for wanting to retire were Angie’s three grandchildren, which were her pride and joy. She wanted the freedom to spend all the time she could with her grandchildren, knowing more would soon follow. Angie had four grandchildren at the time of her passing, with a fifth grandchild only weeks away from being born.

Angie was well known for her quick wit and funny one-liners. She had a selfless way about her that is extremely rare, and many people felt the effects of that throughout her lifetime. Her smile and laugh were contagious, especially when she found something extremely funny. Angie was a quiet person, but when she did speak, people would listen to what she had to say. Her heart was made of gold and she cared so much about the things she held dear. She will be greatly missed by so many.

Angie was preceded in death by her grandparents Leslie and Dorothy Stull and Cecil and Agnes Beal, mother Dorothy Stull, father-in-law Connie Lapaseotes, sister-in-law Robin Coulter-Lapaseotes, and numerous aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her husband Nick Lapaseotes, children Nicholas and Manda Lapaseotes and Eric and Alexa Gutierrez, father Richard Stull, mother-in-law Chris Lapaseotes, grandchildren Rhett, Breck, Delilah, Ellie and Baby G, siblings Stephen and Vicki Stull, Andrew and Becky Stull, Mike and Tara Stull, Chris and Andrea Stull, Doug and Julie Hadden, Jody Weitzel, Pete Lapaseotes, Steve and Helen Plummer, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Barbara “Bunny” Lou Saum, 74, of Alliance, Nebraska, passed away on April 29th, 2022 after a battle with cancer.

Bunny was born on May 22nd, 1947 to Estell and Ina (Murray) Huber in Gillette, Wyoming. On March 19, 1978, Bunny graduated nursing school with an LPN and married William Mark Saum on the same day. A little over a month before her passing, Mark and Bunny had just celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary.

In February of 1996, Bunny graduated from Bryan Nursing School with her RN degree. She was a practicing nurse for over thirty-seven years before finally retiring (for the third time) in 2015.&nbsp; In those thirty-seven years she worked at Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport, Regional West Garden County Hospital in Oshkosh, Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Box Butte General Hospital and Highland Park Nursing Home in Alliance. She also worked as a traveling nurse for a spell, and after Hurricane Katrina she answered the call from the Red Cross for RN volunteers and traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana.

Bunny’s life was centered around family, friends, and nursing. To try and describe her in just a few words would be impossible. She was strong, loving, supportive, caring, nurturing, giving, compassionate, loyal, trustworthy, empowering, and the list goes on and on. She was one-of-a-kind and will be dearly missed by so many.

Bunny was preceded in death by her parents, Estell and Ina Huber, her brother, Gary, her niece Anndee Huber, and her son, Kenny Stark. She is survived by her husband, Mark Saum; her brother, Chuck (Sally) Huber; her seven children, Shawn (Natalie) Miller, Rod (Kathy) Stark, Kelly Stark, Tracy Stark, Denny (Brandy) Stark, Jennifer (Jeff) Vogel, James (Rana) Saum; her nineteen grandchildren, Nick, Tommy, Dillon, Summer, Nicole, Brook, Sage, Faith, Ashley, Corbin, Bailey, Madison, Banyn, Cormic, Jepsen, Layne, Emi, Mackenzie, Kaden; and her three great-grandchildren, Atlas, Ronan and Jada; also survived by her very dear friend Cindy Foster and the Foster family, as well as countless cousins, nieces, nephews, coworkers and friends both near and far, too numerous to name.

Bunny’s Celebration of Life will be held on what would have been her 75th birthday. Please come help us celebrate her life on Sunday, May 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at the Eagles in Alliance, Nebraska with a luncheon to follow.

James D. “Jamie” Scott, 54, died Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at his home in Hemingford.

He was born June 6, 1967 in Springfield, Missouri to James D. and Elberta F. (Crawford) Scott.

Jamie was an avid fisherman and loved fishing all night on a boat.&nbsp; He was larger than life, always laughing and joking.&nbsp; He was great at entertaining people, telling stories and doing magic tricks.&nbsp; He was a hard worker and a jack of all trades.&nbsp; He loved construction, building homes or hotels, it didn’t matter.&nbsp; He made friends everywhere he went and enjoyed playing pool, shooting darts, hunting and playing guitar in a band.

He is survived by his children, Bryce (Emily) Scott of Tulare, CA, Ashley (Ernie) Arellano of Tulare, CA, Kiana Scott of California, and Sierra (William) Cothern of Grand Island, NE; his step-children, Ryan of California and Justin, Thomas, Tyler, Willam and ChrisDena, all of Missouri.&nbsp; He is also survived by his sisters, Ivy (Les) Hicks of Lebanon, MO, Sabrena (Brent) Decker of Richland, MO, and LaVonna Scott of Hemingford; his grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date.

Leta Marx passed away on April 26, 2022 at her home on Marx Mountain.

Leta Leotis Dreyer was born on July 31, 1932, at home east of Rushville, Nebraska.&nbsp; She was the third child of Bernard Christian Jacob (Jake) and Iva Leah Margaret (Bare) Dreyer.&nbsp; The family later moved to the Bare farm south of Rushville.&nbsp;&nbsp; She attended country school and graduated from Rushville High School in 1950.&nbsp; Leta attended Chadron State College Normal training and started teaching in rural schools in Sheridan County.&nbsp; She boarded with families in the school district.

At the 1959 St Patrick’s Day Dance, Arlan Marx asked Leta to dance.&nbsp; They dated until Friday, May 13, 1960, when they eloped to Hot Springs, South Dakota.&nbsp; They lived on the Mills Crane place until 1989 when they moved 2 miles north to the old Sweeney place and converted Fairview District 126 Rural School to their present home – Marx Mountain.&nbsp; They were married for 57 years before Arlan’s passing.

Our mom was a sassy, fun-loving person.&nbsp; She milked cows, chased cows, kids and after Arlan, as she was his hired man for many years.&nbsp; She loved to putter in her garden and flower beds.&nbsp; She built many birdhouses to decorate the lane from the county road we all call Birdhouse Lane.&nbsp; She loved to hand quilt and tole paint.&nbsp; She hosted coffee breaks multiple times a day – just to have another cookie!&nbsp; She loved her family and her grandkids would warn their friends “You are going to love my grandma!”

Leta had beautiful penmanship and won the Nebraska Handwriting contest in the age 50 &amp; over category.&nbsp; Leta was proud the Bare Farm (later purchased by Arlan, Leta and their sons) in 2006, was awarded the Aksarben Pioneer and Heritage Family Award for being in the family for 100 years.&nbsp;&nbsp; In 2015, Leta was recognized as the matriarch of the Marx family for 3 generations attending Chadron State College.&nbsp;

Leta is survived by her daughters Laura (Buster) Kearns, Gordon, Marla Marx, Scottsbluff, sons Neal Marx, Rushville; and Gale (Kim) Marx, Rushville.&nbsp; Grandchildren Sean (Tessa) Mayben Weatherford, Texas; Matthew Mayben, Sidney, NE; Kerisa Marx, Chadron, NE, Kolten (Abby) Marx, Chadron, NE and Kaelob Marx, Hay Springs, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp; Great-grandchildren Trent, Sienna and Grady Mayben, Weatherford, TX and Estes Mayben, Sidney, NE.

She is preceded in death by husband Arlan; brother Lloyd Dreyer; and by 4 hours, sister Leah Dirks.&nbsp; Leta carried the lunch pail for the last time!&nbsp;

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 3, 2022, 10:00 am, at Grace Lutheran Church, Gordon, NE. Burial will be held at 12:30 pm at Fairview Cemetery, Rushville, NE. A memorial has been established for the Grace Lutheran Church and donations may be sent to Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home,&nbsp;PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.

 </figure>Leta Marx passed away on April 26, 2022 at her home on Marx Mountain.Leta Leotis Dreyer was born on July 31, 1932, at home east of Rushville, Nebraska.&nbsp; She was the third child of Bernard Christian Jacob (Jake) and Iva Leah Margaret (Bare) Dreyer.&nbsp; The family later moved to the Bare farm south of Rushville.&nbsp;&nbsp; She attended country school and graduated from Rushville High School in 1950.&nbsp; Leta attended Chadron State College Normal training and started teaching in rural schools in Sheridan County.&nbsp; She boarded with families in the school district.At the 1959 St Patrick’s Day Dance, Arlan Marx asked Leta to dance.&nbsp; They dated until Friday, May 13, 1960, when they eloped to Hot Springs, South Dakota.&nbsp; They lived on the Mills Crane place until 1989 when they moved 2 miles north to the old Sweeney place and converted Fairview District 126 Rural School to their present home – Marx Mountain.&nbsp; They were married for 57 years before Arlan’s passing.Our mom was a sassy, fun-loving person.&nbsp; She milked cows, chased cows, kids and after Arlan, as she was his hired man for many years.&nbsp; She loved to putter in her garden and flower beds.&nbsp; She built many birdhouses to decorate the lane from the county road we all call Birdhouse Lane.&nbsp; She loved to hand quilt and tole paint.&nbsp; She hosted coffee breaks multiple times a day – just to have another cookie!&nbsp; She loved her family and her grandkids would warn their friends “You are going to love my grandma!”Leta had beautiful penmanship and won the Nebraska Handwriting contest in the age 50 &amp; over category.&nbsp; Leta was proud the Bare Farm (later purchased by Arlan, Leta and their sons) in 2006, was awarded the Aksarben Pioneer and Heritage Family Award for being in the family for 100 years.&nbsp;&nbsp; In 2015, Leta was recognized as the matriarch of the Marx family for 3 generations attending Chadron State College.&nbsp;Leta is survived by her daughters Laura (Buster) Kearns, Gordon, Marla Marx, Scottsbluff, sons Neal Marx, Rushville; and Gale (Kim) Marx, Rushville.&nbsp; Grandchildren Sean (Tessa) Mayben Weatherford, Texas; Matthew Mayben, Sidney, NE; Kerisa Marx, Chadron, NE, Kolten (Abby) Marx, Chadron, NE and Kaelob Marx, Hay Springs, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp; Great-grandchildren Trent, Sienna and Grady Mayben, Weatherford, TX and Estes Mayben, Sidney, NE.She is preceded in death by husband Arlan; brother Lloyd Dreyer; and by 4 hours, sister Leah Dirks.&nbsp; Leta carried the lunch pail for the last time!&nbsp;Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 3, 2022, 10:00 am, at Grace Lutheran Church, Gordon, NE. Visitation will be held Monday, May 2, 2022 at 9:30 AM at United Methodist Church in Harrison, Nebraska. A luncheon will be held Monday, May 2, 2022 at 11:30 AM at the VFW in Harrison, Nebraska.

Longtime Harrison rancher and cowboy, Keith Zimmerman, passed away peacefully at his home on April 26, 2022.

Keith was born June 18, 1935 at Crawford, Nebraska to Cleve and Millie (Eberspecher) Zimmerman, the youngest of six children. He lived his entire life at his family home at Bodarc.

Keith married Olita Seaman on May 17, 1958, at her parents’ home. To this union were five children: Wanda, Dee, Lex, Trudy, and Ginger. He worked two years with his parents before purchasing the home place in 1960. In 1980, He and Olita expanded their operation by purchasing the Seaman Ranch Northwest of Harrison. While in high school, Keith was active in FFA, winning state honors and serving on 3 National Judging teams. He and two other members coaxed their instructor, Dean Lundy, into sponsoring an FFA rodeo in Harrison. They held the rodeo in 1950 and 1951, and it eventually became the Nebraska State High School Rodeo that has continued for many years.

Keith and his father built an arena when he became interested in roping. His father kept a few calves at home for Keith to practice on in the summer. He roped calves and Team Roped at several area rodeos for many years. Keith held a permit for a few years to the RCA (not the PRCA) and was a member of the “Old Timers Rodeo” (not the Senior Pro Rodeo Association), in which he competed twice at the finals held in Las Vegas. He was also a long-time member of the Harrison Roping Club as well as the Sioux County Agriculture Society (Fair Board). He also served as Sioux County Commissioner for years.

In 1948, at the age of 14, Keith purchased is fire Quarter Horse, Skipper Socks, a yearling stud. He and his dad acquired a mare in 1952 and began raising Registered Quarter Horses. Keith was honored in 2012 at the AQHA with a 50-year legacy award for breeding Quarter Horses. He sold horses and kept his entire family mounted throughout the years. They have all ridden Zimmerman horses for ranch work and competing in the rodeo arena, something he was very proud of.

In 2016, Keith was inducted into the Nebraska Sandhills Cowboy Hall of Fame for his contribution and dedication to the cowboy way of life.

Keith is survived by his wife Olita, children: Wanda (Faron) Cross of Harrison; Dee (Michelle) Zimmerman of Harrison; Lex (Nita) Zimmerman of Mullen; Trudy (Dave) Saults of Harrison; Ginger (Warnar) Schaneman of Scottsbluff, 12 Grandkids, 24 Great-Grandkids, sister-in-law Shirley Hladky of Lusk, Wyoming along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his five siblings, and great-granddaughter Laci.

Keith Zimmerman (1935 - 2022)

Our beloved brother, uncle, and loyal friend, Tom Cyza passed into eternity on April 26th, 2022.&nbsp; He was born to Cliff and Lee (McCray) Cyza on April 8th, 1950, in Alliance, NE.

Tom enriched our lives to an incredible and unimaginable degree and in a seemingly effortless way.&nbsp; He loved without reserve and included all without reservation.&nbsp; He considered everyone the unmet friend whether at the pool hall, poker table, or horse track.&nbsp; Tom was a hard worker and thought we should all aspire to that same ethic.&nbsp; He was thankful for his service to the railroad and most proud of his fellow worker friends in all crafts.&nbsp;

He is survived by his brother; Jerry (Cindy), John, and Jim (Pam) and his sisters Joan (Ken) and Jean (Rich).&nbsp; Tom was especially proud of all his nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. And, we have to say, his life especially revolved around being much more than an uncle to Parker, Kennedy, Emersen, and Crayten.

Tom is preeded in death by his parents, Cliff and Lee, and a niece Anjanette.

A Rosary service will be held on Friday, April 29th at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.&nbsp; The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, April 30th, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Matt Koperski officiating. A private family interment in Calvary Cemetery will be at a later date.

Memorials can be sent to St. Agnes Academy Foundation, Alliance Library and Spartan Baseball.

Tom Cyza (1950 - 2022)

Joan Letitia Maxwell Dockins was the youngest of three children born to Frank Donald Maxwell and Mary Letitia Kirkpatrick in Yonkers, NY, on October 24, 1945.

Joan grew up in Yonkers. She graduated from Gorton High School and attended college at Hunter and SUNY Oneonta.

Joan married Darryl Wayne Dockins in San Francisco, CA, on January 15, 1969. Joan had three sons: Matthew Wayne Dockins, Mark Jason Dockins (twins) born in San Francisco on January 8, 1970, and Michael Scott Dockins born in Yonkers on May 22, 1972.

With the birth of the twins, Joan and Darryl moved from Palo Alto, CA, to be closer to Joan’s family in Yonkers.

Joan spent most of her career helping companies relocate employees to new locations.

Upon retirement, Joan and Darryl moved to Alliance, NE. Joan became Associate Director of the Carnegie Arts Center until they moved in October 2012 to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

Joan loved her family, her cats, everything artistic (she identified herself as “Artsy One” on the Internet), clothes shopping (of course!), Smarties, music and reading in bed each evening. Each morning with her coffee she checked the weather and anticipated her outside activities for the day.

After a full life, Joan passed away at home on Thursday, April 21, 2022.

Joan leaves behind her husband, three sons, two brothers, James Henry Maxwell and Peter Gilmore Maxwell, her daughter-in-law, Gwenola Marie Dufour Dockins, two grandchildren, Benjamin Claude Dockins and Gabriel Darryl Dockins and numerous in-laws, cousins, nephews and nieces.

The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 4-5 pm at Ponte Vedra Valley, 4750 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, 32082.

Joan Letitia Maxwell Dockins (1945 - 2022)

Dareld “Neal” Callan passed away on April 16, 2022 in Alliance, Nebraska at the age of 100.

He was born April 7, 1922 to Henry and Mildred Callan in Indianola, Nebraska.&nbsp; He graduated from Curtis High School and went on to attend the Nebraska School of Agriculture, graduating in 1941.

Neal enlisted in the United States Army in 1942.&nbsp; He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska and Antarctica.&nbsp; He entered as a medic, went on to driving heavy trucks to transport Army supplies and equipment in Alaska and Canada.&nbsp; He also served as a Military Policeman.&nbsp; He helped to build the Alcan (Alaska-Canada) Highway.&nbsp; Neal was honorably discharged in 1946.

Neal married the love of his life, Anita Unger, on October 12, 1947 (Columbus Day). He always joked that Columbus took a chance so he figured he would too.&nbsp; They were married 60 years.&nbsp; As a loving and devoted husband, he took care of her after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s until her passing 10 years later.

Neal worked for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company for 38 years before retiring in 1985.&nbsp;

Neal had a love for the game of golf.&nbsp; He also loved kicking up his heels on the dance floor with his beautiful wife, watching his grandkids and great-grandkids play sports, and just traveling.&nbsp; He loved taking backroads just to see something different.&nbsp; Didn’t know where it would lead to, just knew it had to come out somewhere.&nbsp; Neal was also the Golden Glove Boxing Champion in the Welter Weight Class.

Neal was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Communication Workers of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Alliance Volunteer Fire Department and a WWII Veteran.

Neal was preceded in death by his wife, Anita, his daughter, Sharon Brennemann and his son, Randy Callan.

He is survived by his son, Ron (Cindy) Callan of Orleans, NE, his daughter, Sandy (Mark) Hissam of Alliance, his sister, Lila Zoltay of Firestone, Colorado and his sister-in-law, Marlene Unger of Apache Junction, Arizona.

He was the proud Grandfather to Carri (Jay) Redmond, Josh (Heather) Nason, Tiffani Hissam (Jared),&nbsp; Jami (Adam) Helmbrecht, Kori (Matt) Lentell, Chris Callan (Renee), Michael Horn and Jeremy (Charmaine) Callan and Great-Grandfather to Kinley, Samantha, Jaycee, Zander, Colton, Kowen, Nash, Addison, Bailey, Keinan, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Grace and Judah and the Great-Great Grandfather to Kylan and Kingston.&nbsp; He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including his special golf buddies, Garry, Darwin and Tim.

His cheerful attitude and bright smile will be missed by all who knew him.
