Sharon M. Jurado (1958 - 2021)

Joy H. Cloud passed away unexpectedly on October 7th in Alliance, Nebraska at the age of 71. Joy was born at Memorial Hospital in Sidney, Nebraska on June 20, 1950. He was the youngest of seven children. He attended East Ward Elementary School and Sidney Jr. and Sr. High Schools. While in high school, he was active in VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) promoting civic responsibilities. Joy was very fond of trains, and after high school, he started his career of many years with the Union Pacific Railroad working in Sidney, North Platte and Columbus, Nebraska. He then went to work with the Burlington Northern Railroad in Alliance, Nebraska. He enjoyed his retirement years.

Joy's many hobbies included photography, hunting, riding his motorcycle, listening to music, shopping for antiques, his coin collection, searching for treasures with his metal detector, and his trains. Joy inherited a massive train collection from his father that included engines that smoked, dairy cars that unloaded their products at the dock, passenger cars with people, and tunnels and bridges. Joy also kept a journal of all the track layouts he designed. He always had a great smile and was very compassionate. We feel fortunate for the time we had with him.and he will be missed.

Joy is survived by his brother, Robert Cloud, of Sidney and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Damon and Josephine Cloud; his sisters, Velora Cloud, Ramona Cloud, Lorraine Benzel, Cleo Liska, and Joann Hobbs; nephew David Benzel and great niece and namesake Jennifer Joy Van Briesen.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life and burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis TN 38101-9929.

Jim was born August 17, 1934 to Mitchell and Tillie Mae Thomas in Crawford, Nebraska.

Jim lived in Crawford almost all his life, he graduated high school in 1953 then joined the Air Force. Honorably discharged because of a family hardship caused him to be sent home to run the family business, Crawford Cold Storage in 1955.&nbsp; &nbsp;Jim married Margaret Fluent in 1964 and raised three children, Kurt, Lance and Shelly.&nbsp; Jim and Margie bought the well-known butcher Shop in 1966 and continued to run the business for 24 years.&nbsp; Jim decided to change professions in 1979 to work for the Chicago North Western Railroad track department retiring in 2001.

In 1969, he was elected as a City Council member then later City Mayor which he served two terms.

He enjoyed many outdoor activities; hunting, fishing, gardening and riding motorcycles.&nbsp; He belonged to many clubs and organizations including rifle club, bowling league, the Elks Club, American Legion and many others.&nbsp; He became interested mountain man re-creation, building an authentic black powder rifle, tanning hides and making authentic leather clothing. He even learned beadwork from a local woman.

He did most of his own repairs and remodeling to his busiiness and hime. Grandchildren say, "Grandpa can fix everything!".

Jim was rather creative working with his hands and created many things out of wood, leather and metal.&nbsp; Even after his health began to rapidly deteriorate, he continued to make designer one-of-a-kind suspenders for family and friends with occasionally selling a few of them.

He was determined to keep busy and stay active at home until he rested for eternity October 15, 2021.

Jim was proceeded in death by parents, Mitchell and Tillie Thomas, brother, Bill Thomas, Phoenix, AZ, and son, Kurt Miller.

He is survived by Margie, wife of 57 years; children: Lance (Jean) Thomas, Alliance; Shelly (Robert) Thiry, Chadron; Grandchildren; Daniel (Katie) Thomas, Sundance, WY; Joelle Thomas, Spearfish, SD; Emmalynn, Isabelle and Olive Thiry, Chadron; Great Grandchild Colt Thomas, Sundance, WY.

Carol J. Bauer died at Box Butte General Hospital on October 18, 2021.&nbsp; She was born February 6, 1948, to Bruce and Dorothy (Barth) Hooper at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska.

Carol grew up on the Hooper family ranch and attended one-room country schools in Districts 145 and 100.&nbsp; Carol graduated from Alliance High School in 1966.

Carol married Richard Bauer in 1997.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bauer, her parents and grandparents, Mark and Lucile Hooper and Walter and Olga Barth.

Carol worked as a registered nurse for many years after receiving her Diploma RN from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in 1969 and her BSN from the University of Nebraska in 1982.&nbsp; She worked in the hospital in Alamosa, Colorado, and Box Butte General Hospital.&nbsp;&nbsp; Carol was the head of Home Health in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, for many years.&nbsp; She earned her national certification in Wound, Ostomy and Continence after studying at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2005, before retiring in 2012.&nbsp; Because of her training and talent she was honored to be chosen outstanding nurse of Nebraska.

Carol was an expert seamstress, quilter and knitter, completing many projects for family and friends.&nbsp; She was especially appreciated as “aunt” in her generosity in making baby booties, blankets, hats and quilts for her niece and nephews. She sewed quilts to honor veterans for Quilts of Valor and spent many hours riding her motorcycle with the Legion Riders.&nbsp; Carol was honored to receive the American Eagle Award&nbsp; from Legion Post 7 for her service to veterans.

She was a world traveler and will be remembered for her zest for life and her adventurous spirit, always ready to try new experiences.&nbsp; Her participation in the Ladies Panhandle Golf Club was especially meaningful for her.

She will be missed by so many people, especially her family:&nbsp; Daughter, Matisha (Andrew)&nbsp; Stratton; sisters, Sally (Larry) Mannlein and Nancy (Kutch) Kutchara, brothers, Brian Hooper and Sid (Susan) Hooper; niece and nephews, Jordan Hooper, Kyle Hooper, Mark Hooper, Ryan Hooper, Brent Mannlein and Eric (Erica) Mannlein; granddaughters, Adrienne Stratton and&nbsp; Bethany Stratton, as well as her great nieces and nephews, Audrey, Gabriele, Olivia, Ava, Sawyer and Hunter.

Carol’s funeral will be October 25, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alliance at 2090 Emerson at 10 a.m.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.

Carol J. Bauer (1948 - 2021)

Phyllis Marie Parks was born July 8, 1925 to John and Mary Opal Reno Parks in a small house north of Hay Springs, NE. She departed this life on Oct 16, 2021 at the age of 96.

Phyllis grew up in Beaver Valley north of Hay Springs, where she and her parents, grandmother and uncle lived in a small house they built on land homesteaded by her grandmother. She attended elementary school at the South Beaver School where she walked to school across the hills. Phyllis attended Hay Springs High School graduating in 1942.

Phyllis was united in marriage to PFC Wayne Bruns in Gordon, NE on May 23, 1942, and 3 children were born to this union, Loren, Ronald and Marilyn. After marriage they moved to Crawford as Wayne was stationed at Fort Robinson, NE. Later they moved to Fort Robinson where Phyllis found work as a housekeeper for one of the Army doctors.

Phyllis and Wayne later moved to a farm northwest of Rushville where they built a house which was their home 30 years. She told us stories of their survival of the ’49 blizzard with 2 small children and no way to get to town. In 1978 Phyllis and Wayne&nbsp;moved to Heston St. in Rushville. Phyllis treasured “the big yellow house on Heston.” Often her house was filled with her children and grandchildren with room for all. Her husband passed away in 1992, and Phyllis lived alone on Heston St. for the next 27 years. She enjoyed a number of friends and spent many hours visiting on the phone or over a cup of coffee. Phyllis resided on Heston St. until moving to Parkview Assisted Living in 2019. Phyllis was a frequent visitor to Parkview before becoming a resident there and made many friends there.

Phyllis will be remembered for her dry wit which helped her dining table at Parkview earn the nickname The Golden Girls. Everyone who knew her, knew her love of the color purple, which she enjoyed having all around her. Phyllis was a beautiful seamstress, and taught herself to crochet. Over the years, she made many, many afghans, which she really enjoyed giving to family and friends. Phyllis was sharp and independent, meeting challenges head-on. In later years, she often declared “this getting old is not for the young people”, but her 96 years gave her family and friends many memories to treasure.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, her son Ronald, and a great-granddaughter Baby Laurie.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Loren and wife Sheila of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Marilyn Schumacher and husband Jerry of Chadron, NE, and daughter-in-law Judi Bruns (Ronald) of Cortez, CO, grandchildren Laurie McGrath (Rob) of Austin, TX, Ryan Bruns (Dawnn) of Syracuse, UT, Kerrie Bruns Juarez of Brea, CA, Mindi Irvin of Grand Junction, CO, Scott Bruns(Sarah) of Nashua, NH, Kacy Spruell (Jason) of Cortez, CO, 20 great-grandchildren who live on the east and west coasts, and in between as well as one Russia, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday, Oct 21, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery in Rushville, NE.

Phyllis Marie Parks (1925 - 2021)

Bertha Margaret Wellnitz Landreth was born January 2, 1929 in Rushville, NE, the second child and only daughter of Christian Ernest Wellnitz and Lydia Louise Dreyer Wellnitz, joining older brother Theodore Wellnitz. Bertha passed into the arms of Jesus on October 12, 2021.

Bertha grew up on the family farm/ranch and loved the country way of life. She graduated Rushville High School in 1947 and married Lloyd Landreth later that year. To this union, five children were born – Virginia, Rudy Lloyd, Larry Arthur, Joyce Marie and Bernita Margaret. They grew as a family on their ranch, first just north of Rushville then later on the place north of Hay Springs near Beaver Valley.

Bertha was a multi-talented lady with many artistic gifts. She was a proficient pianist and could play almost any piano piece by ear, rarely had any need for sheet music. She loved to entertain her family and at nursing homes and other local events on the piano and accordion. She was a detail-oriented seamstress, making clothing for family members and hundreds of hand-sewn quilts over the years which were done for charity and also gifted to family and friends alike. She continued to sew with the Immanuel Lutheran Church quilt group up until the last few months prior to her death. She loved crafting and was extremely creative, always coming up with some new woodworking idea for Lloyd to cut out for her to paint and to share with others. She was a world-class cook as well and loved making huge Sunday dinners for extended family, as well as cooking at various diners in the area and was camp cook for Beaver Valley Camp for several years. Her meals were often prepared from home grown fruits and vegetables from her own garden and whatever the boys would hunt and bring in for her skillful preparation. She shared her time with children at the country school down the road as a teacher’s aide in some of the last days that country schools operated. Her favorite hobby in her later years was following all her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities and she loved sharing her history and wisdom with any of them that asked. The love of her Savior shone through her in so many ways.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, Chris and Lydia, by her daughter Joyce Jech in 1987 in a car accident, her husband Lloyd in 2001 and brother Ted. She leaves behind her sons Rudy (Patty) Landreth of Morrill and Larry (Teresa) Landreth of Chadron, daughters Virginia Popp of Rapid City, and Bernita (David) Kleensang of Hay Springs, grandchildren Craig Popp, Tracy (Kirk) Felker, Christopher (Heather) Landreth, Amanda Landreth, Amy (Matt) Ormseth, Curtis (Mikel) Landreth, Timothy (Ashley) Jech, Benjamin (Brandi) Jech, Becky (Jon) Carr, Candace (Kyle) Nelson, and Colby (Mylie) Kleensang, twenty-two great-grandchildren (another due soon!) and one great-great grandchild, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, coffee buddies and dear friends.

A memorial has been established for the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Unit and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain Chapel, PO BOX 970, CHADRON, NE 69337.

She graduated Rushville High School in 1947 and married Lloyd Landreth later that year. To this union, five children were born – Virginia, Rudy Lloyd, Larry Arthur, Joyce Marie and Bernita Margaret. They grew as a family on their ranch, first just north of Rushville then later on the place north of Hay Springs near Beaver Valley.Bertha was a multi-talented lady with many artistic gifts. She was a proficient pianist and could play almost any piano piece by ear, rarely had any need for sheet music. She loved to entertain her family and at nursing homes and other local events on the piano and accordion. She was a detail-oriented seamstress, making clothing for family members and hundreds of hand-sewn quilts over the years which were done for charity and also gifted to family and friends alike. She continued to sew with the Immanuel Lutheran Church quilt group up until the last few months prior to her death. She loved crafting and was extremely creative, always coming up with some new woodworking idea for Lloyd to cut out for her to paint and to share with others. She was a world-class cook as well and loved making huge Sunday dinners for extended family, as well as cooking at various diners in the area and was camp cook for Beaver Valley Camp for several years. Her meals were often prepared from home grown fruits and vegetables from her own garden and whatever the boys would hunt and bring in for her skillful preparation. She shared her time with children at the country school down the road as a teacher’s aide in some of the last days that country schools operated. Her favorite hobby in her later years was following all her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities and she loved sharing her history and wisdom with any of them that asked. The love of her Savior shone through her in so many ways.She was preceeded in death by her parents, Chris and Lydia, by her daughter Joyce Jech in 1987 in a car accident, her husband Lloyd in 2001 and brother Ted. Mickey Aruffo, 78, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Box Butte General Hospital.

She was born to Erny and Dorothy Coleman on December 28, 1942 at Alliance.

Mickey graduated from Alliance High School and then went to serve our country in the U.S. Army which later in life earned her the Quilt of Valor.

Mickey along with husband were co-founders and operated “Just Neighbors”, local charitable assistance program for many years.&nbsp; She was a member of the United Methodist Church and actively participated in the UMWC for decades.&nbsp; She was also a Music Camp Director for Camp Norwesca for many years, sang in the Chancel Choir and was also in the Bell Choir.&nbsp; She worked many years in the gift shop at Box Butte General Hospital and served many years as a leader in the Girls Scouts and Boys Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Aruffo of 55 years.&nbsp; She is survived by her 4 children; Lena and Greg Frayer of Colorado, Wendy Forcier and Billy Smith of Washington,&nbsp; Larry Aruffo of TN, and&nbsp; Tony and Susie Aruffo of Georgia.&nbsp; She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Friday, October 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church.&nbsp; The Reverend Gideon Achi will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance.

Randy R. Harms, 54, died Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at his home.

He was born January 5, 1967 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Harold D. and Arlene (Anderson) Harms.

Randy graduated from Elsie-Madrid High School in 1985.&nbsp; Following graduation he went on to work for Bosselman Travel Center and Truck Stops and also worked for a mail contractor hauling mail for the United States Postal Service.&nbsp; Later he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad and eventually Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad where he worked as a Machinist.

On July 12, 1990 he was united in marriage with Sherri L. Stahl in Brighton, CO.

Randy was an avid Drag Racing fan and enjoyed watching it whenever he could.&nbsp; He also liked watching both college and NFL football, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers.&nbsp; He was a member of the Alliance Eagles Club.

He is survived by his wife, Sherri Harms of Alliance; his sons, Zachery Harms of Alliance and Nicholas (Crystal) Harms of Wheatland, WY; and 2 grandsons, Izzykiel and Jonathan Harms.&nbsp; He is also survived by his brother, Leonard (Linda) Harms of Paxton, NE; his sisters, Norma Jean Kuskie of Grant, NE and Marsha Harms of Kansas; his father-in-law, Harry Stahl of Wisner, NE; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Larry.&nbsp;

Mr. David Ray Navarro, age 52, of Empire, Alabama was called home Monday, September 27, 2021. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Eagles Club #136 in Alliance, NE from 11am to 4pm. Please bring your memories to share.

David was born and raised in Alliance, Nebraska where he was married to Tracy Shepard. To this union, two children were born. Later in his life, he was united in marriage with Marci. He was very active in the community and volunteered many hours of his time with the Oldtimers, Baseball Association where he coached and was an umpire.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was employed with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway for 23 years where he worked at many locations across the system; working in the mechanical department, management, and currently as a conductor in train service.&nbsp;

Dave was very talented at woodwork and carpentry. Anything that he did, he did it with pride and confidence and was very meticulous. Dave loved the outdoors, spending his free time fishing, hunting, and barbecuing. His favorite place to be during fishing season was Lake Minatare. Dave always had a smile on his face and was always willing to drop what he was doing to lend a helping hand. When Dave moved to Birmingham, he promised to never let his love for the Nebraska Cornhuskers go. We all know that Dave is in Heaven because God needed him up there to do work.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Marci Navarro; son, Tyson Navarro (Carly); daughters, Kaylea Faber (Tony) and Tiffany Elliott (Jesse); sister, Nita Peterson; stepbrother, Ron Batt (Darcy); stepsister, Jennifer King (Steve); stepfather, Richard R. Batt; grandchildren, Rylea and Remi Faber, Nora Navarro, Abby and Amelia Elliott; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives; and he was also a “Doodle Dad” to Marlee and Harper.

John G. Tucker, 78, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

He was born April 10, 1943 in Alliance to Marion Francis and Dorothy Dale (Edelman) Tucker. John served in the U.S. Army from August 1964 to August 1966.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; .

Following his honorable discharge he returned to Alliance and worked with his father at Tuck’s Welding.&nbsp; John eventually took over the business following his father’s retirement and continued until his own retirement.&nbsp;

John is survived by his brothers, Earl (Linda) Tucker and Donald Tucker of Alliance, his sisters, Georgana Epperson of Matthews, VA and Marian Christophers of Douglas, WY.&nbsp; He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Sharon Batt, Joann Aguallo and Dorothy Hall.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance.

John G. Tucker (1943 - 2021)

Memorial Services for Jerry Stumph of Crawford, Nebraska will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Crawford Community Building.

Jerry Stumph was born to John and Sheila Stumph on July 27, 1964 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, on the Naval Base.

The family lived in several different places, including Hawaii while his dad was in the Navy. When Jerry was about 2 years old, the family moved to Crawford, Nebraska to set up roots.

Jerry attended Crawford Schools, he participated in several sports. He enjoyed Wrestling, Football which he excelled in. He also made some life time friends during his high school years. While going to school Jerry also helped his dad with the garbage business, throwing barrels before school, as well as helping with the farm.

In 1984 Jerry purchased Stumph Sanitation from his dad, John. Jerry continued to be the sanitation engineer until his diagnosis’s with cancer in 2020.

Jerry and Lori Palomares were married on September 14, 2014.

Jerry enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, going to Sturgis and making memories with his family and friends. Jerry enjoyed life, and spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Lori Palomares. Children: Brandon and Becca Smith, Mason and Mackenzie Stumph, and Megan Stumph. Grandchildren: Kevin Smith, Kinlee Stumph, Hunter Smith, Aleyna Smith, Aviia Julius, and Kavery Stumph. Sibling: Lori Stromberg and husband Marty Widener. Nieces and nephews: Erin Miller, Chris Miller, Spencer and April Miller, Fletcher and Merissa Stromberg.

Jerry is proceeded in death by his parents John and Sheila Stumph, sister Deb Miller, brother-in-law Tom Miller. And close friends Kirk and Traci McDowell.

Lee (Loretta) Muhr of Gering, NE; Gwen (James) Hargrave of LaVista, NE; James Muhr of Harrisburg, NE; Carla (David) Fanning, Bayard, NE and Ann (Dan) Twombly of Bayard, NE. 15 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Kimber Kay Romick, 16, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021 from injuries received in an automobile accident near Alliance.

She was born on February 2, 2005 in Scottsbluff, NE to Christopher and Leslie (Trout) Romick.&nbsp; Kimber was a junior at Alliance High School.

Kimber was an officer in FFA and a State qualifier in Livestock Judging. She was very fond of animals, especially her pet bunny Timothy.&nbsp; She also enjoyed showing 4H goats and turtles held a special place in Kimber’s heart.&nbsp; She was former Softball player that played left field and was the wrestling manager at the high school. Kimber was a gracious social butterfly who enjoyed being with friends and family.&nbsp; She had fun working at Carters and also spent a lot of time helping at a local ranch.&nbsp;&nbsp; She loved to do road trips with friends and family and enjoyed being the driver.&nbsp; She loved star gazing and enjoyed hunting, fishing, being at the lake and her favorite dessert was banana cream pie.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She had fun hanging out with her Dad in the garage working on vehicles and shopping with Mom. Kimber was a member and avid participant in the Alliance Berean Church

Kimber is survived by her parents, Chris and Leslie Romick, her brother, Bret Schwaderer and his fiancé, Rylee Murphy of Omaha, NE and her sister, Kristen Romick of Hemingford.&nbsp; She is also survived by her grandparents, Howard and Norma Romick along with numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Her grandparents, Donna Trout and Ira Trout preceded her in death.

Memorial services will be Thursday, October 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Alliance Berean Church with Pastor Glenn Johnson officiating.&nbsp; Interment will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

Kimber Kay Romick (2005 - 2021)

Edwin “Bruce” Hitchcock was born January 5, 1947, in Hay Springs, NE to Dorman and Marge Hitchcock. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on October 4th, 2021.

Bruce married the love of his life, Sharon Marie Sorum, August 25, 1967.&nbsp; Sherry and Bruce started dating their junior year of high school and were married for 54 years. Bruce was a dedicated husband to Sherry and father to their three children, Christine, Edward and Robert.

Bruce attended Kearney State College, Chadron State College, and received his bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. He and Sherry moved to Omaha, NE where he worked as a printing manager. He and Sherry moved back home to Alliance where he was a system electrician for Burlington Northern.&nbsp; He started his career as an engineer in 1978. Bruce was a member of the BLE and retired after 31 years of service.

His children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews made Bruce’s heart happy.&nbsp; Bruce enjoyed playing with his grandkids Lily and Lincoln and was always willing to act silly, get down on the floor and play perpetual games of school. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle “the Corndog” and spent countless hours maintaining the beautiful yard and trees surrounding he and Sherry’s home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorman and Marge Hitchcock and his brother , Dennis and sister-in-law Nancy Hitchcock. Bruce is survived by his wife, Sherry Hitchcock; daughter, Chris Stanczak (Chip) of Council Bluffs, IA; sons, Bob (Vanessa) from Lander, WY and Ed Hitchcock in Alliance; grandchildren, Lily and Lincoln Hitchcock; brother, Randy (Kolinda) and family of Alliance; brother-in-law, Steve Sorum (Cindy) of Lincoln, NE; sister-in-law, Carla Dingman (Charlie) from Bozeman, MT, along with many dear relatives from across the country.&nbsp; Bruce was a true family man.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 9th at Bates-Gould Funeral Home, 1020 W. 10th Street at 11:00 am and a luncheon will follow at the Knight Museum,&nbsp;908 Yellowstone Ave. in Alliance, NE.

Edwin “Bruce” Hitchcock (1947 - 2021)

Bill Sullivan, 94, passed away September 28, 2021. He was a lifelong resident of Wallace, Nebraska, until he moved to retirement living in Imperial in 2020. He lived his life in the warm community of a small town, where he took joy in knowing others and being known very well. He was born November 7, 1926, at his grandparents' farm near Elsie, Nebraska, at the beginning of the Great Depression. His parents were Edward F. and Genevieve (Priest) Sullivan. Bill was raised on his parents' farm south of Wallace and attended a one-room schoolhouse until the age of 12, when he started high school in Hayes Center as a weekday boarding student, which was commonly done in the area in those days. He graduated from high school in 1943. During World War II, he completed training as a radar specialist, and was sworn into the Navy on September 2, 1945 - the very day that the war ended. In 1950, he graduated from the Boyle Business School in Omaha and later worked for several Omaha companies. He was a member of Omaha's WOW-TV Chorus, where he met his future wife, Mary Alyce Fenton. They married in 1955 and lived in Omaha until they moved to Wallace in 1958. Bill and Mary Alyce were married for 51 years and raised five children, who will remain forever grateful for the loving home that they made. The foundation of Bill's life was his faith in God, and he built his life on it. He had a special love for scripture, participating in many Bible study courses over the years. He encouraged his children's growth in faith by caring for his wife and children with great love, and by explaining the faith with examples found in nature and everyday experiences. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wallace and was very active in parish life for more than 60 years, serving as a council member, catechism teacher and a choir director for many years. His faith also gave him reverence for the land; guidance as a father, and strength for hard work, the cattle market and Nebraska weather. Bill took great pride in being a cattleman; he was an avid student of current research, quickly adopting new methods for rangeland and cattle management and enjoyed documenting the positive results. He knew and loved every inch of his ranch. Music was also a major theme of Bill's life; he and his wife both loved music and sang in the community's Christmas cantatas. They also sang for weddings, anniversaries and funerals in the area for decades. True to his Irish blood, Bill also prized a fine joke, a great story and a well-turned phrase. As part of an area coalition, Bill worked for years to secure the present location of U.S. Hwy 25 - a critical improvement to the rural region's transportation needs. He made presentations to the State Dept. of Transportation, commercial associations and state legislators. The coalition's efforts met with success, and at long last, U.S. Hwy 25 (connecting I-80 and I-70 in Kansas) was completed in 1977. Bill had a network of friends all over the U.S.; each received a Christmas card and letter from him every year. Without fail, the letter always included a section called "The Farm Report," identified by many as their favorite part. Photography was a lifelong hobby of Bill's that began with a wedding day gift - a camera from his wife. He went on to become a photographer of considerable skill, creating thousands of images that captured his family, friends, ranch life and the canyon pastureland that he loved so well. Bill is survived by his children: Mary Therese Carey (husband Doug) of Lincoln, Lori Beals of Lincoln, Kathy Sullivan of Scottsbluff; Bill Sullivan (wife Marianne) of Imperial; and Noreen Placek (husband Bob) of Alliance; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Donna Sullivan of North Platte; nieces; nephews; and a host of other beloved family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alyce; parents Ed and Genevieve Sullivan; brother John L. Sullivan; and son-in-law Doug Beals. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. (Central) on October 4, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wallace with Fr. Thomas Bush officiating. Clifford James Little Hoop was born on February 24, 1966 in Alliance, NE to Norman Little Hoop and Charlene (Picket Pin) Little Hoop. Clifford made his journey to the Spirit World on September 28, 2021 at his home in Alliance, NE.

Susan Kay Jensen, 64, passed away at her home on Sunday, October 3, 2021 surrounded by family.

She was born on November 2, 1956, in Grand Island, NE, to Ray and Audrey Hongsermeier. After graduation from high school in Grand Island, in 1975, she moved to Alliance where she was employed at BNSF.

On July 4, 1978, she was united in marriage, in Guernsey, WY, to Howard Jensen. They made their home in Alliance where they raised two sons, Josh and Chad.

Years ago, she chose to serve God and her faith was always an important part of her life.

After seven years of employment at the railroad, she was a homemaker, who enjoyed doing her housework and spending time with family, especially the grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Howard, of 43 years, and two sons and their wives and families, Josh and Anna and children, Tyler and Karlie; Chad and Robyn and children, Paige and Hunter, all of Alliance.

She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Carol (Steve) Young and Kathryn and brother-in-law Wayne (Deb) Jensen, Susan's siblings, Paul (Terri) Hongsermeier and Sally Short and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Earl and Gertrude Jensen, her parents, and a sister.

Susan Kay Jensen (1956 - 2021)

Stanley Todd Harris was born on January 1, 1941 in Crawford, NE to Donald and Inez (Kling) Harris. He died on September 28, 2021 in Lincoln, NE.

He graduated from Alliance (NE) High School in 1959. He was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962 and served as a sonarman.

He married Cheryl (Edwards) Harris on Dec 16, 1961 in the United Methodist Church in Alliance, NE. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brothers Jack, Max and Boyd Harris.

Todd enjoyed many hobbies, including ranching, golfing and playing card and board games with family and friends. He was a member of Alliance Masonic Lodge #183 and held many offices. He was a member of the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church vestry and choir. He was a member of the Alliance Eagles Club, American Legion Post #7, and the Panhandle Golf Association.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl; his sons and their spouses John and Polly Harris, Jeff and Brigit Harris, and Jamie and Tara Harris. Grandchildren and spouses include Emma and Hunter Hageman, Laura Harris, Derek and Becky Harris, Matt and Olivia Harris, Kaitlynn Harris and friend Job Niewenhuis and Jacob Harris. In addition, he is survived by great-grandchildren Broox and Tomi Harris. Also, he is survived by brother Dean Harris and his spouse Carolyn Harris, in-laws Ri and Jo Edwards, Barb and Norm Nuss, Pat and Jeanne Edwards, Rock and Janice Edwards and many nieces and nephews.

Megan Nicole Stethem, 27, of Hemingford, Nebraska passed away at her parent's home in Hemingford on September 27, 2021.&nbsp; She was born on March 26, 1994 in Rapid City SD.

Megan got her GED and was 1 class away from completing an associate’s degree in Business from Western Dakota Tech when she fell ill.

Megan enjoyed hiking, being outside, driving around listening to crude music and torturing her parent's cat Tiger.

She is survived by her loving grandparents, Kay and Murph Planansky of Hemingford; her parents, Ed "Slim" and Mary Planansky; her fiancé, Casey Thomas of Rapid City, SD; her cat Mona, who also likes to torture Tiger; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Leo and Bonnie Stethem of Rapid City, SD.

Megan's family would like to thank Dr. Fattig of Alliance, who never gave up trying to find out what was ailing Megan; Dr. Willroy of Bridgeport, who treated Megan like a human instead of a person with a troubled past; Dr. Leisy of Bridgeport, who actually listened to us and prescribed the medications that would best help; the State of Colorado for legalizing cannabis, without this option Megan would have died in our home in 2018 because she couldn't get "REAL" medical help.&nbsp;

Debra J. Dikin Dahna, 57 died Saturday, September, 25, 2021, at the University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

She was born on July 16, 1964 in Alliance, Nebraska, the daughter of 
Michael J. Sr. and Reva J. (Willis) Dikin. She was a Dodge City, Kansas, resident
 for the past 22 years spending 18 of those years being a teacher for 
the Dodge City Public School system. She also worked for DCF, St. 
Francis and her most recent job as a Bus Driver. She was also a member 
of the First Baptist Church in Dodge City.

She enjoyed working with kids and spending time with her family 
especially her great nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed scrap booking.
 She loved her dogs and serving her church especially working with the 
children’s ministry.

On June 5, 2004 she married Harry Dahna at Emporia, Kansas. He survives.

Survivors also include: her mother, Reva Dikin, Emporia; her sister, 
Kelly Mahoney and husband Pat, Phoenix, Arizona; her brother, Michael J.
 Dikin Jr., Emporia, Kansas; 3 nephews, Dan Dikin and wife Jenny,

City, Kansas; 2 great nieces, Caroline and Grace Dikin; and her great

Kyle Gene Meininger passed away Friday, September 24th in Gering. Services for Kyle will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 30th at WestWay Church with Pastor John Mulholland officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Service will be livestreamed through youtube.com\WestWayChristianChurch. Masks will be required by all who are attending the service. Masks will be available at the entrance. WestWay Church doors will open to the public Thursday morning at 9:15 am. There will be no visitation.

Kyle was born in Scottsbluff to Kim and Randy Meininger on November 12, 1992. Kyle had a passion for helping people from day one. When he was just in first grade, he started a Safety Patrol Program at Community Christian School. This program began when Kyle saw a classmate fall and become injured and he wanted to help. The Safety Patrol Program consisted of students, starting with Kyle, who would patrol the playground during recess and radio to the office if someone needed help. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 2012. During his senior year of high school, Kyle graduated with FFA honors and won second place in the state welding competition in Lincoln.

Kyle completed an Associates of Applied Science in Diesel Technology in 2014 from Central Community College and worked for the following year at Nebraska Harvest Center in Ogallala. Kyle married the love of his life and best friend, Courtney Farrington of Casper, Wyoming on December 13, 2014 in Scottsbluff. Kyle and Courtney then moved to Morrill where he farmed for the next couple of years before deciding to pursue a paramedic license. Kyle completed this process and became a Nationally Registered Paramedic in 2017 and worked for Valley Ambulance from 2018 to 2020. Shortly after obtaining his paramedic licensure, Courtney gave birth to their daughter, McKenzie Jo Meininger.

Continuing with his desire to help people, Kyle obtained his MEDL certification in 2020, making him the only person with this certification in the state of Nebraska. With this certification he spent time over the following year traveling and fighting multiple Type 3 and Type 4 wildland fires around the state of Nebraska. In October 2020, Kyle became a Flight Paramedic with Air Link in Scottsbluff. On October 9, 2020, Kyle and Courtney were blessed again with another child, a son named Weston Gene Meininger.

Kyle is survived by his wife Courtney, daughter McKenzie, and son Weston, all of Gering; parents, Randy and Kim Meininger of Scottsbluff; brothers Jordan Meininger of Ogallala and Kaldon (Amanda) Meininger of Scottsbluff; grandparents Ed and Kay Meininger of Scottsbluff and Larry and Karen Slingsby of Ansley, NE; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, many close friends and colleagues, and of course, his best four-legged friend, Lyla.

In his free time, Kyle loved any sort of activity that would get him outside. Kyle’s great-grandfather founded a family cabin in Evergreen, Colorado that he and his family loved to spend time at. While in the great outdoors, Kyle loved to spend his time hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed the trips he made to South Dakota and the Niobrara river with his friends and family, where they would ride ATVs, camp, and swim. Kyle loved his family and friends and was often the organizer of events that would bring his family together and spend time outside.

Kyle was a kind, caring man who never missed an opportunity to say hello and give a big hug to those he knew. He was also very grateful for the comradery shared between he and his fellow firefighters and EMS personnel. Kyle adored his children and was always eager to share the latest pictures and videos he had of them. We loved Kyle so much and will miss him immensely. Arlene M. Hattersley, 62, died Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Box Butte General Hospital.

She was born March 21, 1959 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Dale and Phyliss (Atkinson) Pike.

Arlene had been working at the Alliance Recreation Center where she enjoyed the opportunity to socialize with members and staff.&nbsp; She enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking and spending time with her family.&nbsp; She loved watching her granddaughters, Taylor and Kylie’s music and band concerts, but most of all was their biggest fan when it came to softball.

She is survived by her daughters, Micheala (Jasen) Williams of Alliance and Tara (Raef) Hoots of Two Forks, Montana; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brothers, Dale Pike, Clint Pike and Rod (Becky) Pike, all of Oshkosh; and her sister, Pam (Jim Goodon) Beauchamp of Kearney.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Arlene’s life will be held at a later date.

Stephen "Steve" William Waldron, 80, passed away Friday, September 24, 2021, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, with his family by his side.

Steve was born on May 14, 1941, to William "Bill" and Genevieve (LaClair) Waldron, in Alliance. He was the second child of four. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1960, where he was a standout athlete, participating in football, basketball, and track. On April 14, 1961, he was united in marriage to Sandra Sue Steffen, his high school sweetheart. They were married for over 60 years, and to this union, two sons were born, Randy Allen and Russell William Waldron.

Steve began working as a propane distributor when he and Sandra were first married. He later worked for Essay Distributors and then as a carman for the Burlington Northern Railroad. Following this, he became a rural postal carrier, delivering mail from Alliance to Hemingford, and he worked in that capacity until his retirement in 2011. Throughout his life he has enjoyed both hunting and fishing, and in his later years he found great pleasure in rebuilding classic cars.

Steve is survived by his wife Sandra, his two sons, and three grandchildren: Randy Waldron of Alliance; Rusty and Natalie Waldron and their children Sydnie, Nicholas, and Ayvrie, all of Alliance; his brother John and Sue Waldron of Dallas, TX; his sister Judy and Larry DeWeese of Farmington, NM; and his brother-in-law, Dale Lawrence of Wahoo, NE. He is preceded in death by his parents and his older sister, Joyce Lawrence.

A private family service will be held with internment at the Alliance Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.

Shaw and Minnie Ella (Hudson) Shaw at St. Joseph Hospital, Alliance, Nebraska.The CB handle of "Red Rebel" was a perfect fit for Carl, having no real desire to conform. As a teenage during the 60's he was eager to be a part of the free love mindset. Always with a quick smile and a need to wander, Carl made friends easily wherever his travels took him. Always eager to swap stories and never lacking of an opinion on politics or the weather or for that matter most anything.Carl had a wide variety of occupations, from a short stint in the US Air Force, ranch hand, feedlot cowboy, railroad employee, Santa Claus model and probably some that we don’t&nbsp; know about. Probably the career that suited his personality the most was trucker.&nbsp; He was able to travel the country from coast to coast as an over the road driver and make friends at every stop.Carl had many interesting hobbies, mountain man and black powder activities, motorcycles, camping and fishing, cars, wood working, hunting.
