Delbert Ball was born March 5, 1939 in Alliance, Nebraska to Harold and Vivian (Curry) Ball. He passed away on April 15, 2020 in Gordon, NE of natural causes.

Delbert grew up on the family farm south of Hay Springs and attended Banner School and graduated from Hay Springs High School. Delbert loved the family farm as he was born, raised and spent 79 years of his life on the farm until he moved to Assisted Living in 2017. He took care of both his parents in their later years. He loved trucking livestock and was always seen at the local sale barns hauling cattle in, and in the early years waited around in the evenings for a load to take back for someone. He loved helping out anybody that needed it. If anybody called and needed help, Delbert was always willing. Delbert worked a lot of farm jobs out of high school. Just to name a few he worked for Buster Davis and Jim Johnson

Delbert married Carolyn Krauskopf Orr on January 28, 1988. This marriage lasted 32 happy years. They enjoyed farming, trucking and visiting with family and friends. They were often seen at the local café.

Delbert is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ball; step-children: Kent (Shania) Orr of Grand Island; Kory Orr of Hay Springs and Kelly Orr of Craig, CO; Sister: Musetta Norman, of Blouder City, Nevada; nephew Tarl (Carrie) Norman; niece Kenda (Dan) Keenan. Brother-in-law, Myron (Judy) Krauskopf of Decorah, Iowa

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Vivian Ball; and brother-in-law Wayne Norman

John Samuel Stites, 48, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

He was born on July 27, 1971 in Alliance to Raymond Ray and Ruby J. (Krueger) Stites.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Ruby and Mike O’Connor of Hemingford, his brothers, David (Teresa) Boyles and Ray (Mindy) Stites and his sisters, Ruby Bingham all of Alliance and Angie Bingham of Colorado, aunts and uncles, Mary Olson of Rushville and Leta (Mike) Cox of Alliance.&nbsp;&nbsp; He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Dominick Boyles, Adrianna Boyles, Lyann Stites, Amanda Stites Lontine, Brandon Stites, Zach Staton and Tamara Bingham as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins, including Bill and Deb Reese.&nbsp; He is also survived by his close friends, Gary Murphy, Bill Shores and Bill Monroe.

John loved to go hunting, fishing and camping with his family. When fishing he would use whatever bait he could find including gummy worms and Tootsie Rolls which he had great success with. John would walk all over town and had many friends and acquaintances.&nbsp; His favorite greetings were, “You want to fight?” and “I’m gonna pick on you.”&nbsp; He was always going to the Mission Store and garage sales and would always pick up things; he loved to find “treasures” for family and friends.&nbsp; John loved bacon.&nbsp; His favorite meal to cook was BLT’s and did a very good job.&nbsp; He loved his time working and helping Jim Cornette. John was a hard worker. Jim helped to teach John his directions and how to look around at his surroundings so he could find his way out of an area tell someone where they were in case of an emergency.

John was preceded in death by his father, and his uncles and aunts, William and Janet Krueger, Roger Olson and Fred Krueger, his grandparents, his extended family, Billy and Joey Bingham, his special friend, James “Jim” Cornette and his beloved dog, Spanky.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

John Samuel Stites (1971 - 2020

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date for James L. Prosser, 70, of Crawford, Nebraska.

James “Jim” L. Prosser passed away April 17, 2020, at his home in rural Crawford. Jim was born November 11, 1949, in Alliance, Nebraska, to Leonard and Helen Prosser.

He attended school in Crawford, graduating from Crawford High School in 1968. Following graduation he worked for Anderson Motor for two years before he enlisted in the Navy in January of 1970. Jim was Honorably Discharged in December of 1973, and retuned home to Crawford. He then work for Chubb Water Wells for a few years, and at the uranium mine outside of Crawford.

Jim purchased his own smeal and began his own well drilling business, Jim’s Well Service, while continuing to work at the mine. He eventually left the mine and began running his own business full time for many years working along side his son Brian. You could always count on a “Job WELL Done!”

He met Barb Czmoski and the couple was married at the Methodist Church in Crawford, instantly becoming a father to Billy and Brian. Jim and Barb added three children to their family Jason, Amanda, and Leonard. They later divorced.

Jim’s interests were golf, fast cars and woodworking. He took great pride in winning several awards with his fast cars and drag racing. His laugh was very distinctive and infectious. He was a Charter Member of the Crawford Eagles Club and served on the Golf Board for a short time. Jim will be missed by many.

Jim is survived by his children, Bill Prosser of Lincoln, Brian (Shauna) Prosser of Crawford, Amanda (Josh) Lager also of Crawford, and LJ (Zailey) Prosser of Brookings, SD; and six grandchildren Kyler, Tehgan, and Neleigh Prosser, Boone Lager, and Bentley, and Berkley Prosser. He is also survived by his brothers Dave (Sheila) Prosser of Raleigh, NC, and Emory (Jean) Prosser of Crawford, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Jason, parents Leonard and Helen, sister Nancy Weedin, and uncle John Prosser.

James L. Prosser (1949 - 2020

Ronald J. Herrman, 71, died Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Box Butte General Hospital.

He was born December 2, 1948 in Goodland, Kansas to Frank A. and Lena M. (Sponsel) Herrman.

Ron loved to spend time with family. He treasured the moments he had with his mom and dad, brother and sisters, and brothers and sisters-in-law, which he looked at as brothers and sisters rather than in-laws. He enjoyed spending time in Liebenthal, Kansas at family reunions. Here he enjoyed talking about cars and playing softball with family. Also, he enjoyed taking his children Ronda and Ronnie on exciting and entertaining car rides. Ron was a kid at heart whose favorite holiday had to be the 4th&nbsp;of July. When Ronnie was younger he would supply the neighborhood kids with fireworks. As Ron grew older he always made sure his grandchildren, Sydney and Hunter had enough fireworks to last the whole month. He enjoyed the times when his brother Frank would come up for the 4th.&nbsp; He thought it was so funny to light fireworks at Frank when he wasn’t watching and watch him run away! Ron was a mentor to anyone who wanted to lift weights. He enjoyed playing football in the street with Ronnie and the neighborhood kids at Meadows. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, working on his vehicles, singing along to the music of his younger days, talking about the Rock Island Railroad, and reminiscing of when he and his siblings were younger. Which according to him, he was the angel and everyone else just talked him into doing things. All which brought him great joy and would bring a smile to his face. Ron loved animals and had a particular fondness of a poodle named Bella. He will be missed by many of us who truly knew him and grew up with him and others for miles around.

Ron is survived by his children, Ronda (Nathan) Weirich of Beatrice, NE and Ronnie Herrman of Alliance; and his grandchildren, Sydney Weirich and Hunter Weirich both of Beatrice, NE.&nbsp; He is also survived by his brother, Frank (Alice) Herrman of Salina, KS; his sisters, Patty Wicke of Goodland, KS, Linda (Curtis) Miller of Salina, KS, Sharon (John) Hartman of Clifton, KS and Mary Lou (Louis) Haller of Denver, CO; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Archie Wicke, and his niece, Cindy Clark.

Graveside services will be held Friday, April 24, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at the Goodland Cemetery in Goodland, KS.

Ronald J. Herrman (1948 - 2020

John Alsworth Sibbitt, age 98, passed away Monday, March 30,&nbsp;2020 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, NE.&nbsp; He was born in Omaha, NE on February 6, 1922 (with home being Hyannis) to Arthur Charles and Ola Gertrude (Alsworth) Sibbitt.

John and his younger sister grew up ranching near Hyannis, NE.&nbsp; He attended Kemper Military School in Missouri his freshman and sophomore year where he wrestled, played the tuba, and with a big grin would tell you that he spent a lot of time working off his demerits.&nbsp; He attended Hyannis High his junior year, then graduated from Curtis Agriculture School in 1940 where he was active in boxing.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He attended college in Lincoln for one semester but returned home to the ranch and informed his Dad that he’d taught them easterners all they needed to know!&nbsp; In 1942 John’s father passed away leaving him and his mother to manage the ranch.&nbsp; Two years later his mother also passed leaving the 20-year-old to run the ranch and settle estates.&nbsp; He was a man of grit and great determination who thrived as a cattleman.&nbsp; He participated in many other areas of the industry including cattle feeder, order buyer and sale barn owner.&nbsp; He was also very athletic; at the age of 70 he could still be seen loping his horse into a stock trailer and grabbing the roof to swing off just as his horse lunged in.&nbsp; John will always be remembered as a man of many talents; a well-known cowboy, rancher, business man, extraordinary pilot and a wonderful story teller of the interesting times in which he lived.&nbsp; He was a hard worker yet had a fun and optimistic outlook on life and was a playful jokester.&nbsp; He needed only meet you once to make a memorable impression.&nbsp;&nbsp; Just when you thought you knew him well; you’d discover another hidden talent such as playing the guitar, harmonica or even singing and writing funny poetry.&nbsp; John lived life to its fullest and had a daredevil spirit; from riding a bucking bronc in a wash tub to landing his plane on a moving train, he never lived a dull moment.&nbsp;

His survivors are 3 of his children John Sibbitt Jr., Joan Sibbitt and Dina (John) Denton.&nbsp;&nbsp; He is also survived by daughter-in-law Alice Sibbitt (Kem, 3 grandsons Jared (Risa) Sibbitt, Clay Sibbitt and Allen Denton. He has two great grandson’s Darien and Sawyer Sibbitt, and his nephew, Jim Copsey (Ethel).&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, sister (Naomi “Sitter” Copsey, his son Kem Arthur Sibbitt, and his niece, Jackie Copsey.&nbsp; Memorial services will be determined at a later date.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Merelda Dreyer passed away on April 10, 2020 in Gordon, NE of natural causes.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born February 23, 1929 in Canova, SD to Herman and Elsie (Koepsell) Zulk.&nbsp; She grew up in Canova, SD where she attended school through the 9th grade.&nbsp; The lack of a high school diploma was rectified when she proudly received her GED in 1989 through Western Community College.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Merelda married Wallace Everett White and they had three children: Sara, Howard and Carl. They later divorced.&nbsp; She married Lloyd Leroy Dreyer on April 15, 1968.&nbsp; This marriage lasted 25 happy years.&nbsp; They enjoyed working on his family ranch and being active members of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Helping with the churches’ 100th Centennial book and writing the monthly church newsletter were highlights of her church service.

Always community minded she organized donations for the Blood Bank for almost 25 years.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Merelda has been a part of the Rushville community since 1953.&nbsp; She worked as a grocery clerk, mainly for Wright’s IGA, for many years and remained active in her church, the Legion and keeping up with her family until her death. Being chosen 2016 Grand Marshall was a highlight of her life.

 </figure>&nbsp;Merelda Dreyer passed away on April 10, 2020 in Gordon, NE of natural causes.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born February 23, 1929 in Canova, SD to Herman and Elsie (Koepsell) Zulk.&nbsp; She grew up in Canova, SD where she attended school through the 9th grade.&nbsp; The lack of a high school diploma was rectified when she proudly received her GED in 1989 through Western Community College.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Merelda married Wallace Everett White and they had three children: Sara, Howard and Carl. Meralda Dreyer (1929 - 2020

Carol Jean Thompson Halfhide passed away at her home in Chadron on Friday, April 10. She was born June 27, 1939 in Pawnee City, NE (SE corner of NE) to Ellis and Marjorie Thompson. Carol resided in Pawnee City during her school years and graduated with the class of 1957. She attended one year at NE Wesleyan in Lincoln.

She was united in marriage to Art Halfhide on June 21, 1959. They moved to Lincoln where Art was enrolled at the College of Pharmacy. Carol took full-time employment with the Lincoln Gas Company. Along with being a full-time student, Art worked part-time at a local Lincoln drug store. Three years later Art graduated in June 1962 and soon after moved to Chadron to work for Myers Drug for almost forty years. Carol faithfully cared for their two children who were born in Chadron. For many years she taught piano lessons to several children and helped Art with their cleaning business.

The Lord gifted Carol with perfect pitch. She could play anything she heard by ear as well as play written music. For almost sixty years she played for weddings, funerals, community events, patriot/military functions, the local nursing home, and for her church. Many enjoyed her unique style and complimented her frequently, but in her response, she always gave the credit to the Lord for her musical gift. All her grandchildren hold special memories of her playing the piano for them and also of joining in with their instruments or singing along.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and younger brother, Jim. She is survived by her husband-Art, her son-Kevin and daughter-in-law-Kristen of Warrensburg, MO, her daughter-Teresa and son-in-law-Patrick of Boise, ID, thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, her brother-Bill and sister-in-law-Janis along with several nieces and nephews.

In her younger years she learned who Jesus Christ is and what He did on the Cross for everyone. After she placed her faith in Jesus Christ for forgiveness of her sin, she gained a firm trust and a personal relationship with Him. This has been her anchor throughout her life. Because she desired to share the good news of the Lord with others, many knew she loved Him by the life she lived.

Even though being recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer was a hard trial, she trusted the Lord through her illness and was confident of the blessed hope of eternal life with her Lord and Savior. Because He lives, we can face tomorrow!

Bruce Dean Kittelmann, 59, of Alliance, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at his home.&nbsp; Bruce was born October 15, 1960 to Paul F. and Mildred P. (Schrader) Kittelmann.&nbsp; Bruce was the third of 4 boys who grew up on a ranch northeast of Alliance that was homesteaded by the Kittelmann family.&nbsp; The property included Box Butte Hill for which the county bears the name.&nbsp;

In 1980 Bruce met and fell in love with Lisa Sanchez, whom he married and spent the remainder of his life with.&nbsp; Having no children of their own, Bruce and Lisa mercilessly spoiled their nieces and nephews, many of which lived with them at various times.&nbsp; Everyone knew their door was always open.

Bruce was known for his love of Mopars.&nbsp; His babies were his cars.&nbsp; He had a large collection of die cast cars but his most valued possessions were his Challenger that he bought new in 2009 and his 1971 Superbee, which he was in the process of restoring.&nbsp; Bruce was known as a long haired country boy who drove fast cars, drank beer and was always up for a road trip.&nbsp; He always had a smile on his face and could make “even a square have a ball.”&nbsp; Some of his favorite things to do were pile people in his truck and climb Box Butte or go prairie dog hunting while listening to Jan and Dean, The Beach Boys or John Fogerty.&nbsp; Bruce was the epitome of a good ole boy and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Kittelmann of Alliance; his children, Angelo Kittelmann of Alliance, Crystal Sanchez of Alliance and Jessica Sanchez of Grand Island; and 3 grandchildren.&nbsp; He is also survived by his mother, Mildred Kittelmann of Mitchell; his brothers, Randy (Julie) Kittelmann of North Platte and Monte (Andra) Kittelmann of Alliance; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Yvonne (Mark) Robertson of Alliance, Maria Nelle of Fort Dodge, IA and Mary (Dave) Bogner of Alliance; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Art (Priscila) Sanchez of Los Angeles, CA, Joe (Angie) Sanchez of Sacramento, CA, and Manuel (Tina) Sanchez of Alliance; and special “brother” to the family, Victor (Echo) Sanchez of Alliance; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, and his brother, Brad Kittelmann.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held at the Bates-Gould Chapel on Saturday, April 11, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.&nbsp; Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Nebraska Man, Mike Riggleman Loved the Outdoors&nbsp;

There’s very few men who loved the outdoors the way Mike did.

He passed on the passion of the great outdoors down to his son and grandchildren with camping trips, late night bonfires, fishing, hiking and stories of how he fought fires all over the country as a Strike Team Leader and Probeye Operator (Wildland Fire Suppression). In the last years of his life, he was often found soaking up the sun, working in his garden, and making gallons of his sought after salsa.&nbsp;

Michael Jean Riggleman died in his home April 8th 2020 surrounded by his family after a 17 year grueling and hard fought battle with Multiple Myeloma. He also warriored an eight year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born July 1, 1947 in Henderson, Kentucky, he was the first son to parents Ray and Jean Riggleman and big brother to Pat. His family moved to the rural area of Gordon, Nebraska to farm and be closer to family.

His rural upbringing was the perfect backdrop to spin stories about one room school houses and life on the farm. When he graduated high school, Mike got an itch to see the world and joined the Navy in 1966 as a medic for four years. Rarely would he ever talk about the Vietnam war but he loved telling stories to his grandkids about how great and small this world is.&nbsp;

After the war Mike came home and as fate would have it, he met his future wife working for Catherine’s dad at Otte Packing in Clinton, Nebraska. They were married May 27th 1972 and moved to Missoula, Montana to begin his education as a Forester. The couple spent a decade in Oregon before moving to Newcastle, Wyoming. They enjoyed all the activities the Black Hills had to offer before following their son (actually, the grandchildren, let’s be honest here) to Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Ray Henry Riggleman, Jean (Roberts) Riggleman. Mike is survived by his wife Catherine, his son Chris and his wife Heather and their children, Cheyenne, Elijah, and Victoria. He is also survived by his younger brother Pat. Mike is also survived by niece Christine Dregalla, husband Matt and their children Marcus and Colby. He is also survived by niece Liz Riggleman and her husband A.J. Wolkins.

Mike Riggleman (1947- 2020

June was born June 29, 1929 in La Junta, Colorado to Harry &amp; Bessie (Carrington) Barber. Her family consisted of an older brother, Roy Harry, and older sister, Shirley Marie, and a younger sister, Margaret Alice. She attended one room elementary schools in Colorado, graduating as a Salutatorian from Akron Colorado High School in 1947. She attended Colorado State Teacher College in Greely Colorado from 1947 to 1948. She taught at North Buena Vista Rural School from 1948 to 1949. She often said she might have shoveled snow as much as she taught as that was the year of the 1949 blizzard. She was able to fulfill her dream to become a Registered Nurse by going 3 years to nurses training at what was called at that time West Nebraska Methodist Hospital. While she waited for her fiancé (Marvin “Casey”) to return from the Korean War she worked at Washington County Hospital at Akron Colorado.

She married Marvin Joy Bauer (Casey) on March 15, 1953. To this union five wonderful children were born: David, Daniel, Joy, Jeannette, and Joyce. She lived in Sioux County Nebraska the rest of her life. She had a strong love for her Savior the Lord Jesus Christ, her family, ranch life, and nursing. Her nursing was at Crawford Hospital, Home Health, School Nurse, and at Hemingford Community Care Center. She was a member of Monument Bible Church and she was a Gideon’s Auxiliary member. Preceding her death were her parents, brother Roy, sisters Shirley &amp; Margaret, son Daniel, and the love of her life, Casey.

Her remaining family: son David of Hemingford; daughters Joy (Randy) Yost, Hayes South Dakota, Jeannette (Fred) Citta, Gering Nebraska, and Joyce (Lonnie Joe) Starke, Hemingford, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother in law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She often said she might have shoveled snow as much as she taught as that was the year of the 1949 blizzard. She was able to fulfill her dream to become a Registered Nurse by going 3 years to nurses training at what was called at that time West Nebraska Methodist Hospital. While she waited for her fiancé (Marvin “Casey”) to return from the Korean War she worked at Washington County Hospital at Akron Colorado.She married Marvin Joy Bauer (Casey) on March 15, 1953. To this union five wonderful children were born: David, Daniel, Joy, Jeannette, and Joyce. She lived in Sioux County Nebraska the rest of her life. She had a strong love for her Savior the Lord Jesus Christ, her family, ranch life, and nursing. Her nursing was at Crawford Hospital, Home Health, School Nurse, and at Hemingford Community Care Center. She was a member of Monument Bible Church and she was a Gideon’s Auxiliary member. Preceding her death were her parents, brother Roy, sisters Shirley &amp; Margaret, son Daniel, and the love of her life, Casey.Her remaining family: son David of Hemingford; daughters Joy (Randy) Yost, Hayes South Dakota, Jeannette (Fred) Citta, Gering Nebraska, and Joyce (Lonnie Joe) Starke, Hemingford, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother in law; and a host of nieces and nephews.Memorials may be given to the Gideon’s International for Bibles.Private family graveside service was held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Scottsbluff with Pastor Jake Roberts officiating. Juanita C. Mendoza went to be with our Lord on April 5, 2020. She was born July 28, 1938 at St. Joseph Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska to Elena (Vargas) and Dionicio Flores, the oldest of 16. She grew up in Alliance and graduated from St. Agnes Academy. After graduating she entered into the convent for a short time. When she left the convent, she moved to Scottsbluff, NE where she met Adolpho Mendoza and later married him.

To this union four children were born (Laura) Chris Weber of Hemingford, Anne (Tim) Wilcox of North Platte, Claudia Stark of Alliance, and Greg (Katrina) Mendoza of Lincoln. She was also blessed with 7 grandsons, 5 granddaughters, and one great-grandson.

She will be welcomed with open arms by her parents, brothers-in-law Dee and John, sister-in-law Dixie, great-nephew Michael, and many more family members.

Juanita was a devoted mother, grandma, and sister. She always was there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. She loved to cook! You could always hear her music playing loudly while she toodled around her house.

You may have known her as your friend, babysitter, care taker, personal chef, or house cleaner. No matter she took pride in everything she did. Her love for her family was immeasurable, and in her life God and family came first.

Stephen Glen Brown passed away unexpectedly at his home in Georgetown, Texas on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at the age of 67.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Steve graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Agricultural Science and received his Pharmacy degree from Creighton University.&nbsp; He spent his professional career as a pharmacist with the Department of Veterans Affairs, believing strongly in his roll to support those who serve our country.&nbsp; Steve retired in 2016 after 29 years of service.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He loved golf and spent many days each week on the course.&nbsp; Steve enjoyed all sports, but especially Nebraska Cornhusker football and Kansas Jayhawks basketball.&nbsp; After moving to Georgetown, Steve participated in the Georgetown Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy (CPAAA) and became an active volunteer in the community.&nbsp; He enjoyed walking dogs at the Georgetown Animal Shelter, helping with the Blue Santa program, and was a member of the Community Emergency Response Team.&nbsp; He never did learn the word “no”.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As much as golf, sports, volunteer work, a good red wine or an Irish whiskey were important parts of his life, absolutely nothing held his love and passion like his family.&nbsp; Steve and his wife, Kimberly, were married for 37 years (not long enough) and were blessed with two daughters who were the center of his world, Jessica Lyn and Amanda Erin.&nbsp; Steve taught his daughters, by example, that it takes such a little amount of kindness to brighten someone’s day.&nbsp; He was extremely proud of the strong women they are today.

As a grandfather, Steve’s love for Nolan and Kai knew no bounds.&nbsp; His life was blessed and rich with friends and family.&nbsp; We have lost someone we love, but we will live to celebrate his life.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Steve is survived by his wife, Kim, daughters Jessica (Brad) Mues and Amanda Brown, and grandsons Nolan and Kai Mues.&nbsp; Also surviving are brothers Larry (Sandy) Brown and Ron (Cindy) Brown; brother-in-law Michael (Kristi) Cornette, sister-in-law Julie (Wayne) Jensen and four nephews, Cooper, Ben, Matt and Andrew.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jean Wallace Cameron, of Alliance, died Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.&nbsp; She was 93.

A fifth generation Mainer, Jean was born in Orono, ME to Stanley (“Wally”) and Mildred Wallace on June 5, 1926.&nbsp; Even when living in Illinois, Ohio and Florida, she returned to the family camp at Maine’s Lake Seponac yearly, until well into her 70s. Jean had a long affiliation with the University of Maine, as the child and sister of faculty members, undergraduate, graduate student, and instructor in the entomology and botany departments.&nbsp; Her master’s thesis, The Orchids of Maine, was published in 1948 and remains in print.

Jean met her husband, John H. Cameron, in graduate school. They married in 1951, raising two sons and two daughters in the Cleveland and Chicago areas as they moved for John’s job with Gould Inc.&nbsp; During those years Jean’s hobbies included breeding registered Siamese cats, gardening, and crafts. Jean’s most striking artworks were in stained glass, depicting animals and flowers with the keen eye of a scientist. Jean also worked as a curator in the insect department of Chicago’s Field Museum.&nbsp;&nbsp; Jean and John retired to Clermont, Florida in 1987 and took great pride in their volunteer work as Florida Master Gardeners at the Lake County Agricultural Center, where she was known as “The Bug Lady.”&nbsp; They moved to Alliance in 2008 to be close to family, and John passed away in June, 2009.&nbsp; Jean volunteered at the Sallows Military Museum in Alliance and continued to garden into her 90s.

Jean was predeceased by her brothers, Edward and Robert Wallace. Her survivors include her children, John Stanley Cameron (Naomi) of Wellesley, MA, Anne Henderson-Weare (Leroy) and Leslie Jean Cameron of Alliance, and David Moore Cameron (Donna) of Grayslake, IL.&nbsp; She is also survived by six grandchildren, Sean, Daniel, and David Henderson, Jeffrey and Stephen Cameron, and Alison Harvey and a great-grandson, Chip Henderson.

A private family memorial service will be at a later date.

Doris Irene Doyle, 90, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, Nebraska.

She was born on August 14, 1929 to Amos and Ethel (Diamond) Taylor, in Bingham, Nebraska, one of seven girls.&nbsp; She graduated from the Bingham High School.&nbsp; Doris met and fell in love with Harley Doyle and the couple was married on December 15, 1951, at the First Christian Church Parsonage during a raging snow storm. They were blessed with 63 loving years together. During their years together they welcomed with love three children, Joyce (Bruce) Lundy of Alliance, Earl (Gaylene) Doyle of Forest, Virginia and Dale ( Vickie) Doyle of Vermillion, Minnesota, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Harley, her parents and her 6 sisters.

Doris was a devoted, loving and supportive wife and mother. She was a woman of faith, always willing to lend a helping hand. Doris was a member of the Alliance Methodist Church, Eagles Lady's Auxiliary, Golden Age Group, RSVP Group and Royal Neighbors of America.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Roger Alan Sundberg, 73, passed away in his home Tuesday, March 31, 2020 following a brief illness.

He was born in Omaha, NE on July 26, 1946 to Richard and Jenelle (Woods) Sundberg.&nbsp; He was a graduate of Alliance High School, Chemeketa Community College in Salem, OR and Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR.

Roger was a lifetime student of Art and various home improvement skills as a carpenter, electrician, plumber and machinist.&nbsp; He loved the Lord and was looking forward to spending eternity with Him.

He is survived by his younger brother, Robert Sundberg of Fort Worth, TX, and was the father of 3 daughters, Kay Yauney of Chadron, Laura Baunsall of Burbank, WA&nbsp; and Rebecca Conner of Portland, OR.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Richard.

James L. Schmidt, Jr., passed away March 16, 2020 at his home in Lincoln, Nebraska.

He was born October 8, 1955 in Alliance, NE to James L. and Emma L. (Howard) Schmidt, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Lela (Dawn) Schmidt of Lincoln, his children, Chris (Valoree) Schmidt of Alliance, Anthony Schmidt, Felicia Schmidt, Twylite Schmidt and Jerri Schmidt of Lincoln, 12 grandchildren that he treated like his own children, and 12 additional grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He is also survived by his siblings, Billy Jack Schmidt, Robin Schmidt, Delores Schmidt, Robbie Schmidt and Cathy Schmidt all of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sons, Shane Dawn and Timothy Schmidt.

A two night visitation will be held at the Indian Mission Church of God in Alliance beginning Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.&nbsp; James will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery in Alliance on Friday with private family graveside due to the Coronavirus mandates.&nbsp; We sincerely encourage each person to make their decision whether to attend the visitation based on the best interest of your health and that of your community.

Lola Bernice Castor, 94, of Alliance, formerly of Maxwell, died at Highland Park Care Center on Wednesday, March 25,202

Lola was born in Aurora, Nebraska, on August 7, 1925, to Alexander and Goldie (Cogil) Brown. She grew up and attended school in Aurora then got married.

On April 28, 1942, Lola married Arthur Levi Castor in Grand Island where they lived.&nbsp; Following Art's discharge from the U.S. Army, they moved to North Platte in 1946 then to Maxwell in '60.&nbsp; After Art died in 1986 Lola eventually moved to Alliance.

Lola spent her years caring for her family and was a member of Calvary Assembly of God, and the Moose, Eagle's and V.F.W. Auxiliaries, all in North Platte.&nbsp; Lola like to travel, go camping and play shuffle board.&nbsp; She especially enjoyed dancing and collecting angels.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by their son, Arthur, Jr., and daughters, Esther Castor and Barbara Bates; her parents, Alex and Goldie Brown; brothers, Stanley, Chester and Alex Brown; sisters, Zelda Spears and Lillian Cockran; grandchildren, Michael Reed, Melissa Bates and Angela Zimmerman; and great-granddaughter, Charity Castor.&nbsp;

Lola is survived by her children, Roger Castor and Sharon (LeRoy) Perkins of Maxwell, Linda Houchin and Alice Foster, of North Platte, and Gladys (Bud) Welch, of Alliance; over 90 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Great great-grandchildren; and other family.

Donna Jean Best, 86, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020 at Highland Park Care Center.

She was born on October 23, 1933 in Alliance to Freeman and Margaret (Tooley) Garrett.

Donna so enjoyed her time at the Senior Center with her many friends having coffee, making crafts, playing bingo and lunch. Her passion was crocheting. She made so many different things for family and friends from afghans, gloves, hats, wash cloths to scrubbies. She looked forward to the Saturday morning breakfasts with her girlfriends too.

Her survivors are her children, David (Linda) Best of Conowingo, MD, Richard (Bonny) Best of Alliance, Ron (Robyn) Best of Sterling, CO, Randy (Teri) Best of Arvada, CO, Dennis (Carol) Best of Rapid City, SD and Deb (Scott) Dagit of Cedar Falls, IA, her 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nieces Kim (Tom) Liberg and children of&nbsp; Dewey, AZ, Nancy (Mike) Guthrie and children of Greeley, CO her nephews Ken (Sandy) Willey and children of Alliance and Mike Willey of&nbsp; Williston, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Doug Best and her sister Helen Willey Lingbloom.

Memorial services will be held at a later date with interment to be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance.

Donna Jean Best (1933 - 2020

James “Jim” Dean Lauder, 75, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Box Butte General Hospital, Alliance, Nebraska.

He was born on March 12, 1945 in Chadron, NE to Leo D. and Ruthella (Parrott) Lauder.&nbsp; Growing up he was an active member of the Boy Scouts, FFA and Chadron High School sports.&nbsp;

He served in the U.S. Army from December 1, 1965 to November 21, 1967.

Jim was a retired locomotive engineer with Union Pacific Railroad.&nbsp; He began his railroad career in Chadron, Nebraska with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.&nbsp; He would later transfer to the U.P. in Morrill, NE. He retired in 2007, and divided his time between Gering, Nebraska and Surprise, Arizona for several years. He made Surprise home until 2018, before returning to Alliance to be closer to all his siblings.&nbsp; He was a member of the Eagles Club and attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance.

Jim enjoyed spending time with family and friends, telling stories and jokes. He enjoyed reminiscing about growing up, driving fast, and filling in for his twin when needed.&nbsp; He never turned down a chance to beat someone at a game of cribbage. Jim’s greatest gift was creating lasting relationships. Although he never had children of his own, he took great pride in being a part of his nieces and nephews' activities and accomplishments.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jim is survived by his twin brother, John and his wife Diann Lauder and their children Jennifer and Greg of Alliance, his sister, Janice Fodor of Littleton, CO and her children Anthony, Dominic, Christa and Karina, his brother, Roger Lauder of Alliance and his children Chad, Angela, Brett and Travis and his sister, Deb and her husband Larry Serres of Sidney, NE and their children Bryant, Brittany and Clint.&nbsp; He is also survived by 17 great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by his brother, Larry and his sister, Linda.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 31, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance.&nbsp; Jim will be laid to rest at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance in a private family service due to the Corona Virus outbreak guidelines.&nbsp; We sincerely encourage each person to make their decision whether to attend the visitation based on the best interest of your health and that of your community.&nbsp; His family is planning a public memorial Mass at a later date.

Burley Eugene Bearden, 87 of Alliance Nebraska died peacefully on March 23, 2020 at the Monument Health Rapid City Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Burley was born on July 3, 1932 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Burley Wade Bearden and Sophia Matilda (Mattson) Bearden.

He graduated from Saint Agnes Academy in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 and proudly served until he retired from the U.S. Navy in 1970 after 20 years of dedicated service to our country.

After the Navy, Burley hired on the BN Railroad in 1970 and retired from the railroad in 1997. He enjoyed his railroad friends and might have even played a hand or two of cards with some of them.

Burley married Donna Curry on December 6, 1958 in Alliance, Nebraska and was a wonderful husband for their 61 plus years together.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, F.O.E. and Fleet Reserve Association.

Burley enjoyed the outdoors, doing puzzles, sports, hearing about and watching grandkids, and was always willing to help anyone that needed it.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of Alliance, daughter Lori (Matt) Brennan of Ellsworth, NE, son Doug of Westminster, CO and grandchildren Shae, Mickenzie and Trey Brennan and Joshua, Briahna and Tyahnie Bearden and several special family friends, in-laws, nephews, nieces, their church family and wonderful neighbors over the years.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, mother-in-law and father-in-law John and Freda Blume.

Due to CDC guidelines, a small, private committal service will be held at the Nebraska Veteran’s Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. John’s Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
