ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Many viewers cringed at Denver’s ugly loss to the Saints behind a rookie receiver pressed into duty because every Broncos quarterback was barred by the NFL over coronavirus concerns.

“It hurt my heart, hurt my soul,” the&nbsp;Broncos starter&nbsp;said Wednesday. “It was tough. It was really tough. It wasn’t something that I enjoyed doing. I would much rather have been out there on the field helping my teammates out.”

Lock and backup Brett Rypien returned to the practice field about an hour later, but veteran practice squad QB Blake Bortles was isolated in case the Broncos run into another&nbsp;quarterback quandary&nbsp;this season.

The trio served what was essentially a one-game banishment for not wearing their masks last week around QB Jeff Driskel, who tested positive for the coronavirus on Thanksgiving.

In addition to isolating Bortles, the Broncos began putting QB Kyle Shurmur, son of offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, through COVID-19 protocols to possibly be signed later in the week. A three-year starter at Vanderbilt, Shurmur spent last season on the Chiefs’ practice squad.

The Broncos’ four QBs went into work on their day off last Tuesday to watch film, but they didn’t have their masks on the entire time. After Driskel’s positive test, a league investigation deemed Lock, Rypien and Bortles as high-risk close contacts and ordered them into quarantine Saturday.

The QBs were pulled off the practice field Saturday and the Broncos scrambled to get Kendall Hinton up to speed on a truncated playbook that mostly involved hand-offs.

Hinton, who played quarterback at Wake Forest, was promoted from the practice squad shortly before kickoff and completed just three passes, two of them to the Saints in Denver's 31-3 loss.

Hinton returned to catching passes, not throwing them, when he went back to the practice squad Wednesday.

Coach Vic Fangio, who fined his QBs this week for violating COVID-19 rules, called out his quarterbacks after the game for putting the team and the league in a precarious position, something that upset Lock’s mother, Laura, who&nbsp;defended her son on social media.

Lock said he had no problem with anything Fangio said.

“He’s my boss. He’s the leader of this team and whatever he says goes,” Lock said. “I feel like we were taking a little bit of leadership by coming in and getting ready by ourselves and doing that by ourselves on a day when everyone else was at home. So, that shows leadership.

“But again, we didn’t do the right thing, we didn’t have them on the whole time we were in there.”

As for his mother coming to his defense, Lock said, “Moms will be moms. That’s just a fact. They’re going to back up their kid. They’re going to stand up for their kid regardless of the situation, and my mom is a fiery human. There’s never a game where I played bad and wasn’t more scared of her than my dad.”

Lock praised Hinton for stepping in on very little notice and making his NFL debut at the league’s toughest position — against the NFC’s top team, no less.

“Gosh, he had to go out there, not take a rep at quarterback, play against one of the best defenses in the league. What else can you ask this guy to do?” Lock said. “I mean, he went out and he played his butt off.”

Lock said he was sitting in his vehicle Monday awaiting results of his rapid COVID-19 test when he saw Hinton and told him, “It takes a lot of guts and a lot of heart to go out there and do what you did in the circumstances you did.”

Fangio said he was disappointed the events of last weekend “overshadows all the good work everybody has done here, starting with the players” to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

“That part bugs me a little bit, but hey, it is what it is," Fangio said. "We had that mistake with the quarterbacks and we have to own it.”

Team president&nbsp;Joe Ellis, who battled the coronavirus last month, met with Fangio and general manager John Elway on Monday and said, “While it’s easy to point fingers, all of us must take responsibility and work together to prevent it from happening again.”

NOTES: DC Ed Donatell is back part time after COVID-19 sidelined him all last month. ... Fangio said Von Miller hasn’t been cleared medically to return to practice. Miller has made it his goal to play this season after a freak ankle injury six days before the opener. ... The Broncos claimed S Will Parks off waivers from Philadelphia, activated DE Shelby Harris from the reserve/COVID-19 list and placed CB Bryce Callahan (foot) on IR. Lock returns to Broncos practice after mask mistake

DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies chose not to offer 2021 contracts Wednesday to oft-injured outfielder David Dahl, catcher Tony Wolters and right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez.

The moves came a day after the Rockies agreed to a $1.2 million. one-year deal with catcher Elias Diaz and a $1 million, one-year contract with right-hander Jairo Diaz, two other players who were eligible for salary arbitration. Elias Diaz can earn bonuses of $100,000 each for 80, 90 and 100 starts as a catcher,

The 26-year-old Dahl is recovering from right shoulder surgery in September, his latest setback. In 2015, he had his spleen removed after running into an outfield wall in the minors. A rib cage injury sidelined him in 2017. In 2018, he missed two months with a broken right foot.

Even his breakout season in 2019 was marred by injury. After making the NL All-Star team, Dahl injured his right ankle and didn’t play after Aug. 2. He appeared in a career-high 100 games that season, hitting .302 with 16 homers and 61 RBIs.

This year, Dahl played in 24 of 60 games during the pandemic-shortened season and had just 99 plate appearances, hitting .183 with no home runs, two doubles and two triples.

“Sometimes it’s tough to move on from guys and say goodbye to guys, but there’s times where you have to for business reasons,” general manager Jeff Bridich said Wednesday night on a conference call.

The decision on Dahl, Bridich said, was done for roster reasons — getting other outfielders more playing time — and due to financial factors and health concerns, “which has been a struggle with David at times with us.”

Bridich said it will allow Dahl “to hopefully find a great opportunity for him elsewhere and get to know a new team. And again, it’s not always what you want to do, but sometimes what you have to do.”

Bridich said he spoke with Dahl on Wednesday night and Dahl told him his rehab was going well.

The Rockies selected Dahl in the first round of the 2012 draft out of Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Alabama. Dahl made his major league debut on July 25, 2016.

Bridich said the decision to non-tenders Wolters, a popular member of the clubhouse “falls under the category of, this is not business as usual and sometimes you have to make difficult decisions.”

“We also feel good about having somebody like Dom Nunez, who is knocking at the major league door to become part of a major league catching rotation, and we came to an agreement with Elias Diaz, as well," Bridich said.

The Alliance Unified Bowling team will make another trip to the State Tournament after winning the District 8 Championship Monday in Scottsbluff.&nbsp; Alliance finished first with a team score of 940. North Platte was the runner up at 868. The district also included Scottsbluff (788), McCook (741), Gordon-Rushville (700),&nbsp; Ogallala (694), South Platte (694) and Bridgeport (443).&nbsp;

Alliance will be making their 4th trip to State in the last 5 seasons.&nbsp; The Bulldogs won the State Championship in 2017 and also qualified in 2016 and 2018.&nbsp; Unified Bowling has been an NSAA sport since 2016 and was started to provide&nbsp;more students an opportunity to participate in sports activities.&nbsp; The State Tournament will be held Monday, December 7, at Maplewood Lanes in Omaha.&nbsp;

Alliance Unified Bowling Team - District Champs

At 1-4 and with three games to go the
Huskers are hoping the view of what’s ahead for the football
program can become clearer in December.

That starts on the field at Purdue this
Saturday then against Minnesota the following week, although the
Gophers have canceled its game this week against Northwestern because of COVID-19 concerns.

But beyond this season, what will Scott
Frost and the Huskers see for 2021, 2022 and beyond?&nbsp; Attrition has become an issue with players
transferring including another one of the team’s high-ceiling future prospects
from Florida, Marcus Fleming.&nbsp; 

Scott
Frost confirmed the departure Monday at his weekly media conference.

Fleming had a strong game against
Northwestern with all five of his catches this season, but he’s been
mysteriously not a part of the offense much since, and he didn’t travel to the game at Iowa.

Even with a full stock of wideouts a football team
can’t move the ball if it can’t get it snapped. And that was a huge issue again
for Nebraska in the loss to the Hawkeyes.

Despite the persistent problems, Coach
Frost is staying loyal to his center Cam Jurgens.

Meanwhile, Husker quarterback Adrian Martinez has
seen his role go from pre-season Heisman Trophy candidate last year to simply the starter
this year, to splitting game time with freshman Luke McCaffrey.

But as a captain and an upperclassman,
Martinez isn’t just sitting and sulking in disappointment.&nbsp; He’s taking the troubles head on and wants to
help his teammates by leading and motivating them in ways unique to what they
respond well to.

And according to Martinez, those ways
have changed over the years and his generation of players aren’t always as willing to bear the brunt of harsh coaching
as others have in the past.

The Husker quarterback knows getting his
team back on track is also about the details and executing them more cleanly on
offense.

DENVER (AP) — Taysom Hill didn’t look much like an NFL quarterback Sunday when the Denver Broncos held him to 78 yards passing, intercepted him once and sacked him three times.

Despite a paltry passer rating of 43.2, it wasn’t Hill who looked out of position in a game New Orleans won handily 31-3 for their first win over the Broncos since Dec. 24, 1994.

It was Broncos QB Kendall Hinton who looked lost — and for good reason: until Sunday he was a practice squad receiver, and he was forced into action when all of Denver's quarterbacks were disqualified over coronavirus concerns.

By comparison, Hill looked like Tom Brady.

“Taysom played this thing just how I wanted him to play it, and it doesn’t have to be aesthetically pleasing to be effective,” Saints coach Sean Payton said. “The job is to win and he did a good job of that.”

In a grind-it-out slugfest like from pro football’s early days, the Saints won their second straight game with Hill subbing for the injured Drew Brees. But Hill wasn’t nearly as sharp as a week earlier against the Falcons, when he completed 18 of 23 passes for 233 yards and a 108.9 passer rating.

Hill did run for 44 yards and two touchdowns against the Broncos and Latavius Murray rushed for 124 yards and&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Saints/status/1333186203672326146?s=20">two scores</a>&nbsp;to help the NFC-leading Saints (9-2) overcome a slow start and win for the eighth straight time.

“The game plan changed the last 24 hours. So, my mindset changed as well and I really became a game manager at that point and certainly the way Sean called the game reflected that," Hill said. "We’re not going to take any unnecessary risks and put the defense in a bad situation.”

The Broncos (4-7) were forced to play without any of their four quarterbacks because of coronavirus concerns, so they promoted Hinton from their practice squad two hours before kickoff.

“When I got the call it was pure excitement,” Hinton said. “Of course, there was nerves and disbelief but the encouragement the team gave me ... made it a lot easier for me.”

The former Wake Forest quarterback who converted to wide receiver his senior year went just 1-for-9 for 13 yards with a sack, two interceptions and a passer rating of zero.

“He did everything he could,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said. “That was a big, big ask.”

The Broncos (4-7) also sprinkled in some wildcat snaps to running backs Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay, who left in the second half with a knee injury.

The Broncos were thrust into this&nbsp;quarterback quandary&nbsp;when their passers failed to wear masks as mandated by the NFL's COVID-19 protocol last week.

Starting quarterback Drew Lock, backup Brett Rypien and practice squad veteran Blake Bortles were disqualified over the weekend when the NFL discovered the three weren't wearing masks around each other before No. 3 QB Jeff Driskel tested positive for the coronavirus on Thursday.

The Broncos managed 37 yards and a single first down before heading into halftime down 17-0 after the Saints scored twice off turnovers in the final 2:22 of the second quarter.

Center Lloyd Cushenberry III’s low snap skittered past Lindsay and Kwon Alexander was headed for the end zone after scooping it up. Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles, who signed a four-year, $68 million extension Saturday, tripped him up at the 23.

Hill, who scored from 1 yard in the first quarter, added a 2-yard TD run to make it 14-0. Two plays later,&nbsp;Janoris Jenkins&nbsp;intercepted Hinton’s underthrown pass to DaeSean Hamilton, and that set up Wil Lutz’s 40-yard field goal as the clock expired.

It took Brandon McManus' 58-yard field goal to keep the Broncos from getting shut out at home for the first time ever — 465 games.

The field goal was set up by another undrafted Wake Forest rookie, cornerback Essang Bassey, who&nbsp;returned an interception&nbsp;26 yards to the Saints 40-yard line in the third quarter.

Broncos battle Saints without a true quarterback, and it went about as expected

Winter sports in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference will proceed forward.&nbsp; The RMAC announced the decision Tuesday afternoon along with several guidelines and regulations for each sport. 

A league news release included, "Due to the COVID-19 virus, all plans were reviewed by the RMAC’s Student-Athlete Health and Safety Committee, Certified Athletic Trainers Committee, Athletic Administrators Committee and ultimately approved by the Presidents’ Council." While the green light to go forward is a welcome sign for players and coaches, the situation will be monitored closely and changes to schedules and sports should be expected due to specific COVID-19 related situations.&nbsp; The RMAC's decision leaves future postponements and cancelations on a more individual-based level as opposed to a blanket shutdown of winter sports.

From the news release, "All decisions are subject to change at any time due to institution, conference and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) guidelines as dictated by local, state and federal health policies and restrictions."

“We understand those following the RMAC have been anxious to learn of more concrete plans for our Winter Sports,” noted RMAC Commissioner Chris Graham. “We have all found that decisions made too far in advance will likely experience some level of change and our goal is to provide as much certainty to our plans during this exceptionally uncertain time. Cody-Kilgore High School senior Elle Ravenscroft announced her Letter of Intent signing with the Eagles Monday through her Twitter account.

Ravenscroft poured in 20 points per game on 48% shooting her junior season.&nbsp; Her biggest scoring night was a 32-point outburst in a win over Bennett County, and she opened last season with a a pair of 28-point nights in her first three games against the Hay Springs Hawks and Arthur County.

She'll also help CSC on the glass and defensively.&nbsp; Ravenscroft grabbed 9.1 rebounds per game last year to go along with 2.2 steals per game.

Ravenscroft begins her senior year with the Cowgirls opening their season December 4 against Hay Springs.

If getting to tip-off proves to be this perplexing all season long, we're in for an unpredictable and frustrating college basketball season.

Chadron State is staying home for Thanksgiving week after all, just days after the exciting announcement that the Eagles had accepted an invitation to play in the Golden Window Classic at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln.

Last Wednesday, CSC announced men's games were scheduled against the Nevada Wolf Pack for Thanksgiving night and the San Francisco Dons on Friday morning the 27th.&nbsp; &nbsp;Now, San Francisco is headed to a new event in Connecticut and Nevada is facing two other schools instead of the Eagles, Nebraska and North Dakota State.

Things started to unravel last Friday when Saint Louis posted on its athletics website that it would stay home and host its own event this week.&nbsp; It included LSU among the field, breaking the news that SLU and the Tigers would be withdrawing from games in Lincoln.

Later Friday, Western Kentucky and San Francisco made it clear they were not coming to Lincoln either.&nbsp; The Dons have picked up four games in Connecticut at the Mohegan Sun Bubbleville Event, and WKU is replacing Creighton at the Bad Boy Mowers event in Sioux Falls, SD.

Heading into the weekend the Golden Window Classic schedule had shattered, leaving tournament organizer Elevate Hoops with Nebraska, Nevada and Chadron State from what was originally billed as a large multi-team event (MTE) with additional schools that have also since dropped out including Northern Iowa and Illinois State.

This morning (Monday) Nevada showed Chadron State on its schedule on a new day and time, Wednesday at Noon (CT) but the Eagles still weren't on any schedule to replace their game Friday with San Francisco.&nbsp; 

A fun thought was perhaps the Huskers sliding into that spot against the Eagles since Nebraska's game with USF Saturday was no longer happening.

However, by Monday afternoon a new team was in the field - North Dakota State, and the Eagles were on the outside looking in.  NDSU took CSC's place against Nevada Wednesday and the Bison will play the Huskers on Saturday.

Elevate Hoops confirmed the new schedule, which does not include the Eagles mid-Monday.&nbsp;

There may still be a little sliver of hope. It's not confirmed by CSC athletics yet that the men's basketball team will go without any games this week.&nbsp; Because of teams having to cancel or move games because of COVID-19 the schedule is very fluid and in constant flux. 

If we get word the Eagles find games over the holiday week we will certainly pass the details along.

 </figure>By: Dave Collins, Sports DirectorNote: This is an evolving story.&nbsp; Check back for updates as we learn more information.If getting to tip-off proves to be this perplexing all season long, we're in for an unpredictable and frustrating college basketball season.Chadron State is staying home for Thanksgiving week after all, just days after the exciting announcement that the Eagles had accepted an invitation to play in the Golden Window Classic at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln.Last Wednesday, CSC announced men's games were scheduled against the Nevada Wolf Pack for Thanksgiving night and the San Francisco Dons on Friday morning the 27th.&nbsp; &nbsp;Now, San Francisco is headed to a new event in Connecticut and Nevada is facing two other schools instead of the Eagles, Nebraska and North Dakota State.Things started to unravel last Friday when Saint Louis posted on its athletics website that it would stay home and host its own event this week.&nbsp; It included LSU among the field, breaking the news that SLU and the Tigers would be withdrawing from games in Lincoln.Later Friday, Western Kentucky and San Francisco made it clear they were not coming to Lincoln either.&nbsp; The Dons have picked up four games in Connecticut at the Mohegan Sun Bubbleville Event, and WKU is replacing Creighton at the Bad Boy Mowers event in Sioux Falls, SD.Heading into the weekend the Golden Window Classic schedule had shattered, leaving tournament organizer Elevate Hoops with Nebraska, Nevada and Chadron State from what was originally billed as a large multi-team event (MTE) with additional schools that have also since dropped out including Northern Iowa and Illinois State.This morning (Monday) Nevada showed Chadron State on its schedule on a new day and time, Wednesday at Noon (CT) but the Eagles still weren't on any schedule to replace their game Friday with San Francisco.&nbsp; A fun thought was perhaps the Huskers sliding into that spot against the Eagles since Nebraska's game with USF Saturday was no longer happening.However, by Monday afternoon a new team was in the field - North Dakota State, and the Eagles were on the outside looking in. NDSU took CSC's place against Nevada Wednesday and the Bison will play the Huskers on Saturday.Elevate Hoops confirmed the new schedule, which does not include the Eagles mid-Monday.&nbsp;<div><blockquote class="twitter-tweet">We are all set for the Golden Window Classic taking place this week in Lincoln, Nebraska! Husker games at Golden Window Classic revised with new teams, new times

DENVER (AP) — Justin Simmons intercepted Ryan Fitzpatrick’s pass in the end zone with 63 seconds left Sunday, sealing the Denver Broncos’ 20-13 win over the Miami Dolphins.

The Broncos (4-6) not only prevented Tua Tagovailoa from becoming just the second rookie in the past 40 years to win his first four starts but they sacked him a half-dozen times and knocked him from the game in the fourth quarter.

Although the Dolphins (6-4) didn’t announce an injury to Tagovailoa before game’s end, the lefty walked gingerly to the sideline after his final sack, by Bradley Chubb.

On the play, Tagovailoa’s left leg bent awkwardly and guard Solomon Kindley stepped on Tagovailoa’s right foot.

Fitzpatrick entered the game with the Dolphins down 10 points and drove them to a field goal that made it a one-score deficit.

The Dolphins, who had won five in a row, had a chance to tie it after they turned away the Broncos at their 1.

Melvin Gordon was just about to score his third touchdown of the game when linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel atoned for a pair of penalties on the previous play by punching the ball loose at the 1. Safety Eric Rowe recovered.

Fitzpatrick completed 12 of 18 passes for 117 yards — better than Tagovailoa’s line of 11-for-20 for 83 — but Simmons intercepted his underthrown pass in the end zone after he'd driven the Dolphins from their 1 to the Broncos 15-yard line.

The Broncos ran out the clock with Drew Lock completing a 61-yard pass to Tim Patrick on fourth-and-14 from his 16, a play that began with 4 seconds remaining.

Lock completed 18 of 30 passes for 270 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. He started despite missing practice time during the week because of bruised ribs.

Linebacker Elandon Roberts stuffed Gordon a few inches shy of the first down on fourth-and-1 from the Dolphins 14 to open the second half, but Gordon&nbsp;scored from 20 yards&nbsp;on Denver’s next drive, putting the Broncos ahead 20-10 late in the third quarter.

Brandon McManus nailed a 47-yard field goal as the first half ended, sending the Broncos into the tunnel with a 13-10 lead.

The Broncos got off to another bad start, failing to score a touchdown on the opening drive for the 12th consecutive time when Lock threw his 11th interception of the season.

Xavien Howard stepped in front of Patrick and&nbsp;picked off his sixth pass&nbsp;of 2020, giving Miami the ball at the Denver 22.

It was Lock’s league-high sixth straight game with an interception and came on his second throw. He got the start over backup Brett Rypien after missing a day of practice with bruised ribs and a strained oblique courtesy of Arden Key’s blindside hit last week in Las Vegas.

Tagovailoa’s first career interception, by Simmons, two plays later was negated by A.J. Bouye’s holding call, and Bouye was beaten by DeVante Parker for a&nbsp;toe-tapping 3-yard touchdown catch&nbsp;that put Miami ahead 7-0.

The Broncos tied it on Gordon’s&nbsp;1-yard run&nbsp;that capped their longest drive (six minutes) in more than a month and Denver took its first lead in three weeks on McManus’ 29-yarder.

A former teammate at Syracuse says running back great Floyd Little, who has cancer, has entered hospice care. The 78-year-old Little was known as “The Franchise” in Denver because his signing was credited with keeping the team from relocating in the 1960s and with persuading voters to approve funds to build the old Mile High Stadium.

Illinois wins at Nebraska for first time since 1920's

The Chadron State College men's basketball team has accepted a bid in the 2020 Golden Window Classic, a predominantly NCAA Division I basketball event at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, from November&nbsp; 25-28. The event is hosted by Elevate Sports, an event management company based in San Francisco. The Eagles will be matched up against the University of Nevada at 6 p.m. MT (7 p.m. CT) on Thanksgiving Thursday, November 26.&nbsp; The Wolfpack were 19-12 overall in 2019-20, finishing in a three-way tie for second in the Mountain West Conference at 12-6 in league play. They concluded their season with a 74-71 loss to the 11th-seeded Cowboys of Wyoming, after entering as the three-seed, at the 2020 Mountain West Men's Basketball Championships, one of the few postseason basketball tournaments to reach its conclusion last season. On Friday, CSC will face the University of San Francisco at 11 a.m. MT (Noon CT). The Dons, members of the West Coast Conference, were 22-12 last season. They got the fifth seed in their league's postseason with a 9-7 conference record, and they advanced to the conference semifinal before falling to top-seed Gonzaga, then ranked No. 2 in the nation, by an 81-77 margin. Chadron State has never faced either program in the 99-year history of the sport at CSC. This season will be the school's 97th, as three seasons were shelved due to World War II. Both games, counted as exhibition matches for the Eagles, will be aired online at Flohoops.com, for a fee, and will also be broadcast live in Chadron and surrounding areas by Double Q Country at&nbsp;97.5 FM or 105.9 FM, hosted by the Voice of the Eagles Dave Collins.&nbsp;&nbsp;

CHADRON, Neb. -- November 18, 2020 --&nbsp;Clint Sasse, a full-time assistant for the Chadron State College football team this past year and a half, was elevated on Wednesday to fill the defensive coordinator role for the team, starting immediately, according to CSC Head Football Coach&nbsp;Jay Long. "I've known Clint going back to 2003," said Long, "and to be able to hire him as a defensive coordinator now is incredible. He's done a great job with our defense, stepping up&nbsp;and having to install a new scheme on the fly. I'm very excited to continue to work with him." In Sasse's first season full-time at CSC, he coached linebacker&nbsp;Tyler Lewis&nbsp;to All-RMAC Second Team honors, and another linebacker,&nbsp;Travis Wilson, led the conference in total tackles. This past season, linebackers&nbsp;Jeremiah Makahununiu,&nbsp;Noah Kerchal, and Wilson were 3 of the top 10 tacklers on a per-game basis, and three of the top five overall. Sasse&nbsp;temporarily filled in as coordinator for the Eagles in 2020 following the resignation of&nbsp;Craig Jersild. In addition to his past two seasons of work at CSC, Sasse's qualifications&nbsp;include a brief stop as a defensive line coach and special teams assistant at Montana Tech. Prior to Tech, he was&nbsp;at Lee Williams High in Kingman, Arizona, where he was head coach for two years and defensive coordinator for one. There he coached Eagles current starting defensive lineman&nbsp;Kael Juelfs, now a sophomore, to First Team All-State and a college football scholarship. Sasse played linebacker and special teams at CSC from 2009 to 2013, and coached two seasons as a graduate assistant at CSC before heading off to Arizona. Sasse is a native of Martin, South Dakota, and is married to the former Kelsy Wood, also a CSC alum. The pair have one son, Kal.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Chadron State football names new defensive coordinator

Alliance High School has announced guidelines for fans attending activities during the winter sports season.&nbsp; This follows the Nebraska School Activities Association guidelines which were issued earlier.&nbsp; AHS Activities Director Anita James issued the following information.

While we pride ourselves on packing our gyms for our students.&nbsp; We understand that due to COVID concerns we must follow the Governor’s mandates in regards to indoor capacity. Alliance Public Schools, the Board of Education, and the Western Conference will follow the following guidelines for Winter Sports to ensure that we can provide a safe environment for our students and all who can attend activities.&nbsp; &nbsp;The following guidelines will be in place for all Alliance Bulldog home events.

MS basketball games and wrestling duals:

2 household members allowed per player depending on facility size

HS basketball individual games, tournaments, and wrestling duals:

In addition, we will follow the NSAA mandates which require facial coverings to be worn at all times of all fans and workers in attendance. You will not be allowed to enter our facilities for any home games or wrestling duals if you do not have a facial covering on, and you will be asked to leave if you do not comply with this.&nbsp; 

All fans must also distance themselves 6 feet between household groups. We will have separate seating for home and visiting teams and spectators.&nbsp; We will do our best to live stream our home contests so our supportive and dedicated fans can cheer on the Bulldogs from home.

This situation can be very fluid and can change from one minute to the next, so please be patient.&nbsp; If there are any updates to our Winter Sports Fan Guidelines we will communicate them as soon as we can.&nbsp; Thank you for your understanding in this matter!

AHS announces winter sports attendance guidelines

Because of COVID issues and its recent spread, the Chadron State College wrestling team will not have any matches until January, Coach Brett Hunter said Monday.

Earlier this month it was announced that the Eagles would host the Colorado Western Mountaineers on Dec. 4 and dual Nebraska-Kearney there on Dec. 11 before expanding the schedule in January.

But Hunter said recent upticks in the virus have caused the sport to back away from competition the remainder of this year. It’s hoped the season can open in January.

Chadron State, which has a 31-man roster, began practicing in mid-October, and had not had any of COVID cases until recently. No practices are taking place this week.

Hunter also said in order to keep his wrestlers in shape so they can make their optimum weights he hopes to bring them back to the campus in December to practice and to hold the annual Black and Cardinal intrasquad meet.

Chadron State’s first semester will end next week, just prior to Thanksgiving. That decision was made prior to the start of the fall term because to the pandemic.

Golf is a lonely sport, it's you against the Course, a mental game as much as a physical game,&nbsp; with plenty of highs and lows over the 18 holes.&nbsp; If you can stay consistant through the round, you can have success. Consistancy was the mark of the Alliance Girls Golf Team in 2020. Despite limited numbers and Covid interuptions, the team played through the season and saw consistant scores and a lot of improvement.&nbsp;

The season started at Sidney, where the Bulldog team knocked 53 strokes off their score from the previous year.&nbsp; The Western Conference Tournament saw Alliance's Julia Wilson earn All Conference honors with a 10th place finish.&nbsp; The Bulldogs broke the 400 mark with a 397 score at Mitchell, with Julia Wilson and Morgan Young finishing 4th and 7th,&nbsp; in leading AHS to the team title.&nbsp; &nbsp;At Chadron,&nbsp; Julia Wilson and Regan Lambert were 7th and 10th with excellent rounds, to give the team a boost heading into the District Tournament.&nbsp; &nbsp;Districts were held at the Heritage Hills Course in McCook...by far the most challenging course the team played this season.&nbsp; The course is filled with steep hills, sand traps and lots of native grass.&nbsp; &nbsp;Alliance played very consistant thru the entire round,&nbsp; and as the final groups came in, there were some anxious moments.&nbsp; &nbsp;Alliance posted a team score of&nbsp; 427,&nbsp; good enough for a 3rd place finish.....(by one stroke)&nbsp; and earned a trip to the State Championships.&nbsp; Julia Wilson lead the way with a 9th place medal, shooting 95....but the other team members were within 10 strokes of the top 10.&nbsp; This was the first time in 40 years an Alliance Girls Golf Team had qualified for the State Tournament.&nbsp; &nbsp;State Golf was held on a familiar course in Gering this year.&nbsp; The Girls remained consistant with their scores and while they finished 12th in the team standings,&nbsp; it was a great expirence for the underclassmen and for Seniors Regan Lambert and Julia Carlson,&nbsp; a nice way to finish their high school careers.&nbsp;&nbsp;

AHS Girls Golf celebrates successful season

Out of an abundance of caution, Chadron State College athletics will reschedule its opening weekend of basketball, scheduled for Sunday and Monday, November 22-23 in the Chicoine Center, against Colorado School of Mines and Regis University. Those games will now be played January 3-4 in Chadron. The athletics department will continue to monitor and reassess its ability to participate in scheduled games, as well as its ability to host spectators, from week to week. Recently the Panhandle Public Health District upgraded its regional COVID-19 risk assessment from "high" to "severe". According to Directed Health Measures issued by the State of Nebraska effective Monday November 16, indoor gatherings, including athletic events, are restricted to 25 percent of a facility's occupancy. The Eagles are scheduled to travel to Durango, Colorado, the first week of December, to meet up with Fort Lewis College, and they are to continue on to Western Colorado University in Gunnison. CSC hosts its next home games, versus Westminster College and Colorado Mesa University, on December 11-12.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Pac-12 announced cancelation of the game due to Arizona State not having enough scholarship players available to meet the conference’s 53-player minimum. Arizona State’s game against California on Saturday was canceled after numerous Sun Devils players and coaches, including head coach Herm Edwards, tested positive for COVID-19. The Mid-American Conference also had its first cancellation Sunday. Ohio’s game at Miami on Tuesday night was called off because of roster issues related to COVID-19 with the Bobcats.
