School officials said athletic director Barry Alvarez and chancellor Rebecca Blank made the decision in consultation with Big Ten officials. The game with Nebraska won’t be rescheduled.

The Nebraska School Activities Association anounced the following guidelines for member schools to follow for the winter season for Play Production, Bowling, Wrestling, Swimming &amp; Diving, Girls and Boys Basketball and Speech.&nbsp;

2020-21 NSAA Winter Season Guidelines:

Circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic are constantly changing and the circumstances vary from community to community. Difficult decisions will have to be made from week to week or even day to day.&nbsp; The health and safety of students, staff, and local communities remain the priority of the NSAA as we provide opportunities to participate in the winter sports season.

Each school has the authority to determine if it will participate in the 2020-21 Winter Season.&nbsp; During the season it will be the responsibility of the host school to provide administrative oversight in compliance with established COVID-19 guidelines in accordance with their local health departments and facilities.

Additionally, the NSAA is requiring the following of host schools for all winter season contests:

• Participants are permitted, but not required, to wear face coverings during competition.

• Coaches and non-active participants are required to wear face coverings at all times.

• Spectators are required to wear face coverings at all times while attending indoor events.

• Host school requirements must be the same for all schools, officials, judges and spectators.

All participating schools, officials, judges and spectators are expected to adhere to these requirements.

The host school should make every effort to mitigate risk and provide adequate opportunities for physical distancing procedures for the visiting schools, officials, judges and all spectators.

Protocols for winter contest hosts to consider:

• Create separate points of entry for home and visitor teams/spectators

• Provide no concession stands or separate/multiple concession stands for home and visitor spectators

• Provide separate/multiple restrooms for home and visitor spectators

• Communicate availability of locker room space for the opposing team and officials

• Implement diligent and effective cleaning and disinfecting of frequently touched objects and surfaces

During practice, coaches should make accommodations for physical distancing whenever possible. Provide adequate spacing when participating in stretching, instructional time and drills. Conduct workouts in small groups whenever possible.

During competition, the team and bench areas should be restricted to essential personnel only. Coaches, officials, and players should be cognizant of physical distancing guidelines when interacting before, during, and after contests.

Schools are encouraged to play their regularly scheduled competitions unless a COVID-19 issue prevents them from playing. Member schools shall be solely responsible for determining whether a scheduled game, match, contest, or other activity is cancelled or postponed due to a COVID-19 related issue in consultation with their local health departments.&nbsp; Member schools shall notify the NSAA of any cancellation or postponement.

The NSAA has great appreciation for all its member schools and their tireless efforts to provide opportunities for learning and participation in NSAA activities. Communication, flexibility, and patience will be key in supporting our high school student participants as they participate in activities this winter season.

2020 NSAA Play Production District Contest Information

These modifications are subject to change in response to COVID-19.

Participants, coaches, judges or spectators that feel sick should not attend or participate in practice or competition. The NSAA requires all non-active participants, coaches, and spectators to wear face coverings. 

Physical distancing should be practiced when possible.

The health and safety of students, staff, and local communities remain the priority of the NSAA.

The NSAA is implementing the following requirements for host schools of all NSAA district play production contests:

• Spectators and judges are required to wear face coverings at all times.

• Directors, crew members and non-active participants are required to wear face coverings at all times.

• Interactions between participants, spectators, and judges must adhere to physical distancing guidelines.

• Performances must be scheduled at least 1 hour apart.

• Physically-distanced areas must be created for judges during competition and oral critiques.

• The host school may establish additional requirements in consultation with local health departments. Additional requirements implemented by the host school must be the same for all schools, judges, and spectators.

All participating schools, judges and spectators are expected to adhere to these requirements.

Optional protocols for play production district contest hosts to consider:

• Designate specific arrival/departure times for participating schools (ex. arrive, setup, perform, teardown, leave)

• Create separate points of entry for cast/crew and spectators

• Restrict attendance/specific seating areas for participating schools/spectators

• Limit theatre/backstage areas to essential personnel only

• Consider digital oral critiques and/or awards ceremony (Zoom, Facebook Live, etc.)

• Communicate availability of locker/dressing room facilities

• Provide limited concession stands or multiple concession stands

• Provide separate or multiple restrooms for participating schools/judges

• Sanitize frequently touched objects and surfaces in theatre/backstage areas

In play production, NSAA member schools apply and volunteer to host district contests. Often, there is a shortage of

willing and available member schools to serve as hosts. Therefore, district contest hosts in play production will have the

full support of the NSAA, should they implement additional COVID-19 protocols at their facility.

2020-21 NSAA Bowling Rules Modifications &amp; Considerations

Participants, coaches, officials or spectators that feel sick should not attend or participate in practice or competition. The

NSAA requires all non-active participants, coaches, and spectators to wear face coverings. Physical distancing should be practiced when possible.

1. Extend the deadline to submit varsity schedules from November 19th to December 3rd.

2. Any regular season contest canceled due to COVID-19 will be considered a “no-contest.”

a. Schools will notify the NSAA of any contest cancellations.

b. Wild card points will not be awarded for “no-contest” competitions.

c. Forfeits will not be issued for a “no-contest.”

3. Replacement contests (not originally scheduled) may be scheduled at any time.

b. Contest limitations may not be exceeded.

***The host administration must pre-communicate local protocols &amp; activity requirements to participating school(s).***

USBC/NSAA Rules Modifications &amp; Considerations:

Schedule: Consider adapting your contest schedule to accommodate social distancing.

Single Lane, USBC Rules 106a/106b &amp; 320a/320b: Individual teams are temporarily allowed to compete on a single lane

without the requirements to rotate lanes (on a pair). You may schedule open lanes between teams and play opponents

on different lanes. Work with your bowling center management before deciding on how to schedule teams while

Facial Coverings: Facial coverings are required for any coach and inactive participant. Active participants may remove

their facial covering when on the approach. Coverings should not be distracting and have no designs.

Cleaning, USBC Rule 18:&nbsp; Bowlers are temporarily allowed to use isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to clean their bowling ball during competition. This exception only applies to isopropyl alcohol – no other USBC-approved cleaners will be allowed during competition.

Sanitization:&nbsp; Schools should discuss and consider sanitizing strategies with bowling center management. This should include capturing and storing equipment that is used daily.

Equipment: Participants should not share equipment.

2020-21 Wrestling Rules Modifications &amp; Considerations

Participants, coaches, officials or spectators that feel sick should not attend or participate in practice or competition.&nbsp; The NSAA requires all non-active participants, coaches, and spectators to wear face coverings. Physical distancing should be practiced when possible.

• Team/individual contest limitations will change from 10 tournament dates and 8 individual duals to – 18 total competition dates. Schedules will still need to be entered intoTrack wrestling for purposes of weight management as weigh-in sheets will still be required for each competition.

• Teams will not be required to input schedules into the NSAA system to allow for necessary changes during the season.

• When possible, consider dual meet format for contests

• NSAA Wrestling Manual states that any contest that have more than 4 teams must be considered a tournament.

• Recommend that tournaments be limited to no more than eight teams or, for individual tournaments, 112 participants.

• When possible, multiple gyms or spaces also recommended when there are more than 4 teams competing – to minimize exposure.

• Attendance can be limited according to the respective DHM capacity restrictions

Additional NFHS/NSAA Wrestling Rules Modification/Considerations

• Consider temperature checks conducted at weigh-ins (for coaches and athletes)

• Weigh-ins completed by team rather than shoulder-to-shoulder

• Wrestlers are required to wear a face covering when in the weigh-in area

• Eliminate shaking hands with officials at any time

• Eliminate shaking hands with opposing coach

• Officials will not raise the winner’s hand

• Officials should not go the table for a coach’s meeting if the coach is not wearing a face covering

• Flip disc should be caught by the official instead of allowing it to hit the mat

• Officials can wear face coverings but are not required

• Consider percentage of capacity allowance for spectators – follow respective DHM’s for your area

• Temp checks prior to practice – all coaches and wrestlers

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and Wisconsin State Journal both reported that Mertz had tested positive. Big Ten protocols say that athletes who test positive through point-of-contact daily testing must take a polymerase chain reaction test to confirm the first result. The athlete can’t play again for at least 21 days if the PCR test confirms the first result.

It was all fun and games in the snowy conditions for the Chiefs. The Broncos were given the cold shoulder as they dropped their 10th straight game to their AFC West rival. Melvin Gordon had two fumbles and Drew Lock threw two interceptions.

Nebraska generated 377 yards of total offense, including 217 rushing yards and 160 passing yards against Ohio State. McCaffrey led the Husker rushing attack with 87 yards on nine carries, including a 47-burst on Nebraska's opening drive.&nbsp;McCaffrey's long run set up a 10-yard touchdown trot for Martinez less than two minutes into the game, as the Huskers took a 7-0 lead. Martinez finished with 77 rushing yards on 12 carries for the Big Red. Martinez added an efficient passing day by completing 12-of-15 passes for 105 yards, while McCaffrey&nbsp;completed 4-of-5 passes for 55 yards.&nbsp;Wan'Dale Robinson&nbsp;was their top target, hauling in six receptions for 49 yards. While Nebraska's quarterbacks combined to complete 16-of-20 passes, Ohio State's Justin Fields was even more efficient, completing 20-of-21 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns. The Buckeyes took a 17-14 lead, but the Huskers got the ball back with a chance to tie or take a lead into the locker room at halftime. But Nebraska's drive began with a delay of game penalty, before Martinez was sacked for a five-yard loss on 2nd-and-15 to set up 3rd-and-20 from their own 15 for the Huskers. Martinez was knocked for another five-yard loss to force a punt and give the Buckeyes the ball back at Nebraska's 46 with 2:25 left. Ohio State took advantage and control by covering those 46 yards in just five plays capped by a Master Teague III six-yard run to put the Buckeyes ahead 24-14 at the half. OSU was also set to receive the opening kickoff of the second half. Fields capitalized on the opportunity with a 17-yard touchdown run to cap an eight-play, 75-yard drive to put OSU up 31-14 with 11:24 left in the third quarter. The three consecutive scores by Ohio State in just a 6:48 of game time put Nebraska in a must-score position on its opening drive of the second half, and the Huskers started marching. However, on the sixth play of Nebraska's drive, Martinez fumbled at the OSU 45 and Buckeye defensive back Sevyn Banks scooped up the ball and raced 55 yards for a touchdown to give Ohio State a 38-14 lead. The team makes the trip to Columbus tomorrow for the season opener Saturday against No. 5 Ohio State. As the team prepares to make its first road trip of the season, Frost believes travel operations will run relatively similar to previous seasons. "We test twice tomorrow, once in the morning before we get on the plane and once when get to Ohio," Frost said. "So that's certainly a wrinkle we didn't have before. But I don't think the travel will feel much different." The one major difference Frost noted will be the game day atmosphere. "Game day is going to feel different, I would imagine, with empty stadiums," Frost said. "These giant, cavernous stadiums with no people in them is going to feel a little different." Frost spoke on the team's desire to succeed and no fear of failure when it comes to this weekend's opponent. "I am anxious to see their response when inevitably Ohio State makes a play or two on us. I want to see a bunch of guys who don't like that but aren't afraid of the next play and go out and continue to try and make great plays," Frost said. After the unusually long offseason, Frost spoke on the Huskers' excitement toward finally playing a game. "The guys are excited about the challenge. CSC running back named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week

(AP) Adrian Martinez turned back a challenge from Luke McCaffrey to win the starting quarterback’s job for Nebraska’s opener at No. 5 Ohio State. McCaffrey made a serious bid to unseat the Cornhuskers’ two-year starter, who struggled with injuries last year and seemed to regress from his fantastic freshman season in 2018. Coach Scott Frost said he feels as if he's got two starting quarterbacks because there is so little separation between the two. McCaffrey is the brother of NFL star Christian McCaffrey and son of former pro receiver Ed McCaffrey. Luke played quarterback and receiver as a freshman last season.

&nbsp;After gaining just 266 total net yards and scoring only one touchdown in a 10-7 loss in their season-opener last Saturday, the Chadron State College football team piled up 599 yards and scored six TDs Saturday night while outscoring South Dakota Mines 41-25 at Elliott Field in Chadron. The Eagles owned a 21-3 halftime lead and widened the gap to 35-10 early in the fourth quarter while retaining possession of the Eagle-Rock Trophy that goes to the winner. Five of the game's 10 touchdowns came in the fourth quarter, when a wet, heavy snow was falling, but did nothing to hamper either team's offense. The long-time rivals combined for 1,047 yards. Senior quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4216">Dalton Holst</a>&nbsp;had an exceptional game for the winners, completing 19 of 27 passes for 361 yards and two touchdowns.&nbsp; His leading receivers were senior&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4256">Cole Thurness</a>, a native of Rapid City, with eight catches for 175 yards and junior&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4233">Chad Mikelson</a>&nbsp;with six for 166 yards. Chadron State took the opening possession 78 yards in 12 plays with Thurness going the final four yards. The Eagles' next two touchdowns came on long drives after the Chadron State defense picked off Mines passes. Cornerback&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5697">Bobby Peele</a>&nbsp;made a diving interception at the Eagles' 25 midway in the second period. The Eagles scored in six plays with Holst's 43-yard pass to Thurness the big gainer. Starks went the final yard on the next play. After Mines' Isaiah Eastman returned the ensuing kickoff 33 yards, the Hardrockers drove to the Chadron 24 before CSC safety&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4193">Cole Condon</a>&nbsp;stepped in front of the intended receiver in the back of the end zone for the second pick. This time, the Eagles went 80 yards in seven plays with Holst and Thurness connecting on a 48 yard strike to ignite the drive. The hosts were facing a fourth and 12 when the Holst hit a wide open Mikelson, who was going full stride while catching a 32-yard scoring pass just 50 seconds before halftime to make it 21-0. However, the Hardrockers got on the scoreboard on the final play of the half, when Enis Sefa booted a 43-yard field goal. Mines posted the only points in the third quarter when freshman quarterback Jayden Johannsen dashed 20 yards to paydirt after he'd hit Collin Zur with a 25-yard pass.&nbsp; The Eagles responded with a 75-yard drive that included a 35-yard pass to Mikelson on the last play of the third quarter and an 18-yard strike to Thurness in the end zone on the first play of the fourth, putting CSC ahead 28-10. Chadron State scored again with midway in the final frame by going 88 yards on five plays. Holst connected with Mikelson on a 39-yard pass in along the south sideline. Starks rumbled for 25 yards on the next play and then went the final four yards to the end zone. The visitors proved they also had lots of ammunition on the first play after the kickoff. That's when Johanssen hooked up with Zur on a 65-yard bomb that went the distance. The Hardrockers' rookie quarterback also ran for the conversion, making the score 35-18. But the Eagles were not to be denied.&nbsp; This time they used nine plays to go 76 yards and took more than five minutes off the clock. A Holst to Thurness pass for 24 yards moved the ball to midfield. Holst scrambled for eight yards to help overcome a holding penalty and freshman scatback&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4574">Jeydon Cox</a>&nbsp;(160 pounds) had two carries gain 14 yards before Starks entered the game and went to last nine to the end zone. By this time heavy snow was falling, but Mines continued the fourth quarter scoring bonanza by going 79 yards on eight plays. The big ones were a 23-yard run by Johanssen and his 39-yard pass hookup with Eastman. All-star running back Ahmad Lewis went the final five yards with 37 seconds left in the game. The Hardrockers finished with 448 total yards, meaning the long-time rivals accumulated 1,047 yards of total offense. That's just five yards shy of last year's total when these teams also played in Chadron and racked up the 12th&nbsp;highest number of combined yards on the Eagles' all-time list. Johannsen completed 17 of 30 passes for 246 yards and carried the ball 12 times for 109. Zur was his leading receiver with eight catches for 139 yards. Lewis carried 24 times for 90 yards. This time, the Eagles went 80 yards in seven plays with Holst and Thurness connecting on a 48 yard strike to ignite the drive. The hosts were facing a fourth and 12 when the Holst hit a wide open Mikelson, who was going full stride while catching a 32-yard scoring pass just 50 seconds before halftime to make it 21-0. However, the Hardrockers got on the scoreboard on the final play of the half, when Enis Sefa booted a 43-yard field goal. Mines posted the only points in the third quarter when freshman quarterback Jayden Johannsen dashed 20 yards to paydirt after he'd hit Collin Zur with a 25-yard pass.&nbsp; The Eagles responded with a 75-yard drive that included a 35-yard pass to Mikelson on the last play of the third quarter and an 18-yard strike to Thurness in the end zone on the first play of the fourth, putting CSC ahead 28-10. Eagles nearly reach 600 yards of offense in Eagle-Rock Trophy rivalry win

&nbsp; The Chadron State College football team will make its home debut Saturday, hosting the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers in the second of six games on the Eagles' schedule this fall.&nbsp; Kickoff at Elliott Field will be 5 p.m. The Chadron State-Mines rivalry dates back to 1912, the second year CSC was open.&nbsp; While the Eagles lead the series 50-18, three of the victories the last four years since the Hardrockers joined the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the rivalry was resumed have been highly entertaining donnybrooks.&nbsp; Those scores were 37-33 in 2016, 50-46 in 2018 and 53-48 last fall, when the 101 points were the second highest in a Chadron State regular season game, the lead changed hands eight times and the 1,052 combined total net yards were 12th in Eagles' history. CSC also won the 2017 game by a 29-17 margin. A year ago, the Hardrockers ran 103 plays from scrimmage, 40 more than CSC, but the Eagles racked up 573 total net yards as quarterback&nbsp;Dalton Holst&nbsp;threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns and tailback Elijah Miles rushed 28 times for 193 yards and two scores.&nbsp; Mines finished with 499 yards. Both teams opened their abbreviated 2020 schedules last Saturday. The Eagles' defense played well but their offense struggled during a 10-7 overtime setback at Colorado Mesa. The Hardrockers defeated their other arch-rival, Black Hills State, 34-17 in Rapid City. Confronted by a strong defensive front, the Chadron State had difficulty moving the ball against Mesa. The Eagles gained just 266 total net yards and didn't score until 25 seconds remained in regulation play. Lack of experience undoubtedly contributed to the struggle.&nbsp; Holst and&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4233">Chad Mikelson</a>, the game's receiver with seven receptions for 82 yards, were the only CSC skill position players who had previously seen significant action.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; South Dakota Mines out-yarded the Black Hills 442 to 218 yards behind senior running back Ahmed Lewis, who carried 26 times for 166 yards and two touchdowns, and freshman quarterback Jayden Johannsen, who completed 15 of 22 passes for 149 yards. Despite Mines' 3-8 record last fall, Lewis, who is 6-foot, 200 pounds, earned first-team RMAC honors while rushing for 1,385 yards.&nbsp; Although he did not score in the game, he carried 44 times for 179 yards against the Eagles last fall. The Hardrockers' quarterback a year ago, Toby Smith, completed only 17 of 46 passes versus CSC last season, but six of them went for touchdowns.&nbsp; Now a sophomore, Smith is still on the roster but has lost his starting job to Johannsen. Listed at 6-2, 205, Johanssen was the quarterback at Sioux Falls Washington High School when the Warriors went 33-2 and won three consecutive state championships.&nbsp; He initially enrolled at North Dakota State, but redshirted there in 2019 and transferred to Mines. The Hardrockers have a new head coach this fall. He is Charlie Flohr, a native of Gillette, Wyo., and a 2002 graduate of Dakota State at Madison, S.D.&nbsp; He had spent the past 14 years as the offensive coordinator at perennial power Northwest Missouri State, which played in seven NCAA Division II national championship games during that time. The Eagles also will be at home on Saturday, Oct. 24 for a 2 o'clock game against Black Hills State. The last three games on the schedule will be on the road.&nbsp; They will meet the Hardrockers in Rapid City on Oct. 31, play at Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 7 and at Black Hills State in Spearfish on Nov. 14.
