LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska lost top running backs Gabe Ervin Jr. and Rahmir Johnson to season-ending injuries, coach Matt Rhule announced Monday.

Ervin dislocated his shoulder and Johnson dislocated his hip in the Cornhuskers'&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nebraska-huskers-northern-illinois-huskies-9d6536d99dd61c206fbc9d8c8d9c1c35">35-11 win over Northern Illinois</a>&nbsp;on Saturday. Both will require surgery.

Ervin started the first two games for the Huskers (1-2) and averaged 5.2 yards per carry. He leads the team with 38 attempts and 196 yards, and he's caught two passes for 20 yards.

Johnson, who started against Northern Illinois, has had 12 carries for 65 yards, including a 44-yard burst.

Anthony Grant will move to the top of the depth chart for Saturday's home game against Louisiana Tech (2-2) and will be backed up by Emmett Johnson and Kwinten Ives.

Grant had been the projected starter entering the season but has been limited to a backup role. He didn't play against No. 18 Colorado on Sept. 9 after a critical fumble in the 13-10 season-opening loss at Minnesota.

Grant led the Huskers last season with 915 yards and six touchdowns on 218 carries, the most attempts by a Nebraska player since 2014. Grant also caught 18 passes for 104 yards.

Rhule also announced that backup cornerback Dwight Bootle II would miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

Huskers lose two key running backs for season

DENVER (AP) — Washington cornerback Benjamin St-Juste didn't flinch after Brandon Johnson snared Russell Wilson's 50-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass off a&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1703556422741471356?s=20">double deflection</a>&nbsp;with no time remaining Sunday.

St-Juste said he figured, “OK, we got one more opportunity to shut this down and come up with a ‘dub.'

"So, we locked in and made the play,” said St-Juste, who appeared to get away with pass interference when he&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/i/status/1703555864316031475">broke up Wilson's 2-point conversion throw</a>&nbsp;to Courtland Sutton, preserving the Commanders' come-from-behind win. Washington rallied from an early 21-3 deficit to take a 35-24 lead, then had to hang on with no time on the clock.

CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore said it looked like St-Juste made enough early contact for a foul, but Brad Rogers’ crew didn’t throw a flag and the Commanders celebrated the franchise’s first 2-0 start since 2011.

The Broncos (0-2) have lost back-to-back home games for the first time, not the kind of history coach Sean Payton was hoping to make in his return to the sideline after a year in the broadcast studio following a highly successful 15-year stint in New Orleans, especially after he criticized predecessor Nathaniel Hackett for doing one of the worst coaching jobs in NFL history last year.

The Broncos lost despite scoring touchdowns on their first three drives for the first time since 2010. Their 18-point blown lead tied for the fourth-largest at home in franchise history.

“This is a resilient team,” Washington's Sam Howell said after throwing for 299 yards and two TDs in his first road start. “The thing I’m proud of is we had each other’s back on both sides of the ball.”

Brian Robinson Jr. added two TD runs, helping the Commanders to the second-biggest comeback in franchise history. Washington overcame a 21-point deficit to beat Detroit on Nov. 4, 1990.

The Commanders used a 32-3 scoring outburst to take control before the Broncos made it interesting at the very end.

With 2 seconds left and the Broncos at the 50-yard line trailing 35-27, Wilson heaved a pass toward the end zone that was deflected by a scrum of players before Johnson snared it for the score.

Wilson threw for 308 yards and three TDs but also had two turnovers.

The last time Denver scored TDs on each of its first three drives was on Nov. 14, 2010, against Kansas City, a game the Broncos went on to win 49-29.

Payton got the ball into his young speedsters' hands early on, and it paid off with undrafted rookie&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Broncos/status/1703513476272894337?s=20">Jaleel McLaughlin</a>&nbsp;scoring on a 5-yard pitch, rookie receiver&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Broncos/status/1703513476272894337?s=20">Marvin Mims Jr.</a>&nbsp;hauling in a 60-yard touchdown pass and second-year wideout&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Broncos/status/1703513476272894337?s=20">Johnson</a>&nbsp;snaring a 16-yard score.

None of the three touched the ball again until Mims got a handoff midway through the third quarter with the score tied at 21.

Mims had two catches for 113 yards on two targets but wasn't thrown to again after Denver's third possession and spent much of the rest of the game on the sideline.

“Some of it's coverage-driven and some of it is just based on what we're in,” Payton said. “We're in a couple of different personnel groupings, so part of that is coincidence, I would say. We had a number of guys we’re trying to get the ball to and we will keep doing that.”

Mims also had a 45-yard punt return, giving him 168 all-purpose yards on five touches.

“Any time he can touch the football is a good thing for us,” Wilson said.

Washington coach Ron Rivera was presented with a game ball in the locker room for his&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Commanders/status/1703575665763598436?s=20">100th career win</a>&nbsp;in the NFL, and the Broncos honored their&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Broncos/status/1703532226153943309?s=20b">Super Bowl 32</a>&nbsp;-winning team at halftime.

The game turned when Howell threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Logan Thomas on fourth-and-goal and safety Kareem Jackson was ejected for launching himself at the tight end, who suffered a concussion on the play and didn't return.

Jackson also drew a 15-yard flag in the opener for a hit he put on Raiders receiver Jakobi Meyers, and Payton was asked if he felt a suspension was possible.

“Gosh, I don't have an answer for you,” he said, “because those things happen so quickly. ... From my vantage point, I only get to see it one time, you look up and they make the call and you've got to go with it.”

With the flag moving the conversion try to the 1, Washington went for 2 and pulled within 21-11 when Robinson got the ball past the plane. Joey Slye's 46-yard field goal as the first half expired made it 21-14. And the Commanders erased the final remnants of their 18-point deficit on Terry McLaurin's 30-yard TD grab on their first drive after halftime.

Commanders: Thomas didn't return after suffering a concussion on his TD.

Broncos: S Delarrin Turner-Yell, who replaced Jackson after he was ejected, sustained an undisclosed injury early in the fourth quarter and went to the locker room. He was replaced by DB Essang Bassey.

Denver's Hail Mary TD nearly enough to overcome Commanders, 35-33

SPEARFISH, S.D. -- Chadron State scored the first touchdown in both the first and second halves, but Black Hills State controlled the remainder of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game played in Spearfish on Saturday night.

After the Eagles took a quick 6-0 lead by competing a 52-yard pass on their opening possession, Black Hills scored on four consecutive possessions before it was forced to punt. The Yellow Jackets also added a touchdown in the final minute to take a 34-6 halftime lead.

Chadron State received the second half kickoff and drove 65 yards for a touchdown, but the Yellow Jackets tallied twice in the third quarter on two huge plays to go ahead 48-13.  Each team added a TD in the fourth quarter to make the final score 55-19.

Black Hills quarterback Tanner Clarkson ramroded the Yellow Jackets attack that netted 556 yards of offense. He scored his team's first touchdown on a two-yard run, then threw five touchdown passes that covered 12, 63, 50, 72 and 15 yards, in that order.

Altogether Clarkson, a senior who transferred from Northwest Oklahoma State this fall, completed 18 of 24 passes for 343 yards. His favorite receiver was Hasaan Williams, who caught seven passes for 183 yards, including the 50, 72 and 15-yard touchdown tosses.

TJ Chukwurah hauled in the 63-yarder while running back Nolan Sussel scored on a 12-yard pass reception and runs of one and 56 yards while rushing 16 times for 138 yards.

Chadron State finished with 334 yards of offense made up of 217 yards passing and 117 rushing. All three of the Eagles' touchdown were on pass plays.&nbsp; Starting quarterback Heath Beemiller connected with Tommy Thomas on the 52-yard pass that opened the scoring.  He finished with 11 completions on 26 attempts for 123 yards.

Alternate quarterback Preston Pearson threw the two second half TDs for the Eagles. They were a 12-yarder to Peter Krohn and a 27-yarder to Thomas, who had six receptions for 147 yards and two TDs.

Pearson was Chadron State's leading rusher with 10 carries for 64 yards.

The Eagles' Xavier Harrell was the game's leading tackler with 14. Both Hunter O'Connor and Sutton Pohlman were next for CSC with seven. 

Black Hills is now 2-1 and Chadron State 1-2. The Eagles will host Western Colorado this coming Saturday with a noon kickoff.

Alliance's Escamilla wins a match at Lexington Invite

The Bobcats finished the game strong but could not overcome a tough start as Bridgeport routed Hemingford 70-24 on Friday night.&nbsp;

When you look at the Bobcat's in the previous three games, it had been Hemingford who had made the big plays early, but Bridgeport scored touchdowns on runs of 49 yards and 54 yards to give the Bulldogs the early lead at home against the Bobcats.&nbsp;

Bridgeport continued the big plays in the 2nd quarter with scores on offense and defense to make the score 42-0 until Talon Payne scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown and a two-point conversion made it 42-8.

Big plays were the difference all game as Bridgeport answered with a 63-yard touchdown run to give the Bulldogs a 48-8 halftime lead.

Bridgeport continued the avalanche of points in the 2nd half, but Hemingford was able to end the game with some positivity going into next week with two rushing touchdowns, a Lucas Sulzbach four-yard TD and a Ryan Ragsdale 11-yard TD gave the Bobcats the final points of the game.&nbsp;

"We are not satisfied with a loss, and we are not satisfied with how the game went," Hemingford Head Coach Josh Dean said. "There were some positives, but we know we are trying to meet the Hemingford standard for excellence, so we must have a great week of practice as we get prepared to travel to Maxwell next week."

Hemingford falls to 2-2 on the season, while Bridgeport is 2-2 after winning two games in a row. Bobcats travel to Maxwell who is also 2-2 after beating Sandhills Valley 38-32.

 FB RECAP: Bridgeport uses big plays to get past Hemingford

The Alliance Bulldogs started their away game at Gothenberg by recovering a fumble recovery on the opening kickoff, and later had two touchdown receptions from Espen Lanik, but not much else went the Bulldogs way on Friday night in a 46-12 loss to the Swedes.

"I think we shot ourselves in the foot a few times, " Head Coach T.D Stein said. We made some mistakes and I think if a couple plays go different, it's a whole different game."

After Alliance recovered an Evan Johnson fumble on the opening kickoff, the Bulldogs drove inside the Gothenburg 40-yard-line, but the Swedes forced a turnover on downs as Freshman running back Trini Trejo was held less than a yard away from the first down. Gothenburg capitalized as Johnson scored on a 9-yard run, his first of four touchdowns to make it 7-0 Swedes.

Alliance on their next possession had a Tristen Timbers punt blocked and recovered by Gothenburg's Kade Cox to make it 14-0, with 4:09 left in first quarter. Alliance responded on their next drive by converting on a 4th and 3 from the four-yard line and Landen Crowe found Espen Lanik in the endzone for the touchdown to get the Bulldogs on the board 14-6 late in the 1st.

Alliance had issues all game with Evan Johnson and Swedes running attack, Johnson found the endzone again with a 12-yard TD run to make it 20-6. Gothenburg had a chance to extend the lead inside the final minute of the half as they had a first and goal, but the Bulldogs held the Swedes out of the endzone as the clock expired going into the 2nd half.

"That stop was huge and going into halftime we felt like we could win, and it just came down to executing, we didn't execute." Stein said.

Alliance got the ball to start the 2nd half and the 3rd quarter was a nightmare as Gothenburg's defense forced a pair of interceptions, and two more rushing touchdowns for Johnson helped the Swedes outscore Alliance 20-0 in that 3rd quarter. Lanik did find the end zone for the last scoring play for Alliance midway through the 4th quarter on another touchdown pass from Crowe to make the score 46-12.

The Bulldogs fall to 2-2 on the season while Gothenburg improves to 3-1. Next up is homecoming at Bulldog Stadium for Alliance against 2-2 Ogallala.

RECAP: Alliance loses tough road game at Gothenburg Friday

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Chadron State College volleyball team defeated Colorado School of Mines in five sets Friday, the first victory for CSC over the Orediggers since 2007.

CSC improves to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with the victory. Colorado Mines falls to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The last time CSC defeated the Orediggers was in 2007 when the Eagles went 2-0 against Mines.

Friday, the Eagles fell in sets one and two 25-18 and 27-25, before winning the next three sets 25-19, 25-18 and 15-9.

Chadron State hit .313 as a team in the victory, compared to their opponents attack percentage of .262.

The Eagles started slow in the match, never leading in sets one and two. While trailing 9-5 in the third set, a Kally Kirkwood kill gained momentum for CSC. Chadron State slowly chipped away at the lead and took the lead 17-16.

After the Orediggers tied the set at 17, CSC manufactured an 8-2 scoring run to take the third set.

Chadron State never trailed in set four to tie the match at two sets a piece.

In set five, the two teams were tied at five a piece but a Mayson Fago kill gave CSC the lead for good, helping them earn the match victory.

Offensively, Lexi Hurtado had her best match of the season to start conference play. The graduate student from Aurora, Colorado recorded 20 kills with an attack percentage of .386.

Bella Adams, a sophomore from Pueblo, Colorado, led both teams with an attack percentage of .593 to go along with her 17 kills. Fago, a senior from Evans, Colorado, also finished in double-digit kills with 14.

Kendyl Kirkwood, a junior from Fleming, Colorado, set a new season high with 51 assists in the victory.

Defensively, junior Alondra Hernandez of Provo, Utah and Rylee Greiman, a graduate student from Windsor, Colorado both finished with double-digit digs. Hernandez finished with 21 while Greiman added 10.

Maddison Wright, a junior from Rawlings, Wyoming set a new career high with seven total blocks to lead both teams in the victory.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. when they face MSU-Denver, the conferences preseason favorite.

The Alliance football program is confident after a big 58-34 win over Valentine last week, as the 2-1 Bulldogs aim for their 3rd straight win going into tonight's away game at Gothenburg.&nbsp;

Gothenburg won their first two games before dropping a home game to a strong Adams Central team last week 13-7.&nbsp; The Swedes defense has been tough this season, holding opponents to just 11 points per game. 

"They're a tough team where if you make mistakes, you're going to lose," Head Coach T.D Stein said. "I think if we go in, do what we do and limit mistakes, we'll be just fine."

Alliance offensively is averaging 30 points per game this season, and 42 ppg in their two-game winning streak.&nbsp; Quarterback Landen Crowe has thrown for 826 passing yards after three games, 3rd most in the entire state, while star receiver Tristen Timbers is second in the state with 432 receiving yards.&nbsp;&nbsp;

One issue that Alliance has had through three games is scoring defense, allowing 30.6 ppg, but not all of that is on the defense as Alliance has thrown an interception returned for a touchdown in each of the first three games.&nbsp; That could change this week against as Alliance's defense faces a Gothenburg offense scoring an average of 18 points a game. Stein says a big key is to continue to improve tackling.&nbsp;

Kickoff tonight is a 6 P.M Mountain Time, with the Nebraska Bank pregame show slated to begin at 5:45.&nbsp; Interviews with Coach Stein and Alliance lineman Matt Moomey will be featured in the Pregame show, and at halftime we will air an interview with Alliance Softball Head Coach Carlos Palomo.

Preview: Alliance football confident going into trip to Gothenburg

CHADRON, Neb. -- The Chadron State College football team will open its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule Saturday night by playing long-time rival Black Hills State in Spearfish. 

 Kickoff will be at 6 o'clock and broadcast live on 97.5 FM, 105.9 FM and doubleqcountry.com.

Both teams are 1-1.  The Eagles squeezed past the Quincy Hawks 35-34 in their opener in Illinois before falling to the Augustana Vikings 27-3 at home last Saturday.  Black Hills opened its season by losing 36-26 to the Division I St. Thomas Tommies in St. Paul, Minn., before slipping past Southwest Baptist of Bolivar, Mo., 39-33 at home last Saturday.

The Chadron State-Black Hills series dates back to 1912, the second year Chadron State was in operation.  It continued on nearly an annual basis through the 1995 season.

After that the Eagles were playing nearly a full slate of RMAC games, and the football teams did not meet again until 2012 when the Yellow Jackets became a conference member. CSC has won eight of the 10 games since then, but one of the Yellow Jackets' wins in the renewed series was last year, when they won 32-23 at Elliott Field in Chadron.

Last year's game had lots of offense.  The Eagles out-yarded Black Hills 469 to 409, but the Jackets had possession of the ball 36 minutes, 12 more than CSC. The score was knotted at 10-10 at halftime, but Black Hills passed for two touchdowns in the third quarter and remained ahead the rest of the way.

While the Chadron State coaches were disappointed with the loss to Augustana, they are confident the Eagles can do well this fall.  Head Coach Jay Long said his team "needs to learn from its mistakes and build on the things it did well."

Offensive Coordinator Micah Smith was pleased that quarterback Heath Beemiller completed 19 of 26 passes and was not intercepted, but added that the offensive line needs to provide better protection for the quarterbacks. 

"We definitely need to run the ball better than we did on Saturday," Smith added.  "We think Augustana had a really good defense, but we missed some opportunities to make some big plays in the passing game."

On the other side of the ball, the Eagles gave up two huge touchdown passes that Defensive Coordinator Clint Sasse noted, "We can't let that happen again."  The first that went for an 80-yard TD was on a "free play" after the CSC defense had been offsides and the second, a 60-yarder, "was blown coverage," Sasse stated.

On the other side of the coin, the Eagles limited the Vikings to fewer than 100 yards rushing, Augustana completed only 50% of its passes and safety Dax Yeradi intercepted three to merit consideration for the RMAC Defensive Player of the Game honor.

Black Hills has a new quarterback this fall. He is a Tanner Clarkson, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior who transferred from Northwest Oklahoma State. He completed 61% of his passes for 4,130 yards and 31 touchdowns while playing there the previous three years.

In the first two games with Black Hills, Clarkson connected on 31 of 49 passes for 501 yards and three TDS. He also is the Yellow Jackets' leading rusher with 27 carries for 105 yards, quite a few of them while scrambling after he had looked to pass, according to Sasse.

The Yellow Jackets have another dangerous player in senior Nolan Susel, who is 5-11, 220. He's rushed 17 times for 76 yards, caught a team-best nine passes for 144 yards, completed two of three passes and scored four of the team's eight touchdowns.

Black Hills' defensive leaders include Doodles Quinones, a 5-6, 180-pound junior who was a first-team RMAC all-conference selection last season. He was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week following the game against St. Thomas, when he participated in 10 tackles, blocked two kicks and broke up two passes.  

In 2021, Quinones led the Jackets with 100 tackles, and has broke up 15 passes the last two seasons.  

Chadron State Head Coach Jay Long and Black Hills' Josh Breske are well acquainted. Beske was a four-year starter in the Yellow Jackets' offensive line 2006 through 2009.  Long was the Jackets' offensive line coach the first three years and the head coach when Breske was a senior and earned NAIA All-American honors.  Breske was the first All-American Long coached.

After three years as the Jackets' head mentor, Long returned to his alma mater as Chadron State's head coach in 2012.  That fall, Breske joined the Eagles' coaching staff as a graduate assistant and earned his master's degree from CSC in 2013.          

Breske took over as the Black Hills head coach in December 2019.  Because of the COVID pandemic, the Yellow Jackets played just two games in the fall of 2000.  They had a 4-7 record in 2021, then reversed that mark last season.

Beske was a four-year starter in the Yellow Jackets' offensive line 2006 through 2009. Long was the Jackets' offensive line coach the first three years and the head coach when Breske was a senior and earned NAIA All-American honors. Breske was the first All-American Long coached.After three years as the Jackets' head mentor, Long returned to his alma mater as Chadron State's head coach in 2012. That fall, Breske joined the Eagles' coaching staff as a graduate assistant and earned his master's degree from CSC in 2013. Breske took over as the Black Hills head coach in December 2019. Because of the COVID pandemic, the Yellow Jackets played just two games in the fall of 2000. They had a 4-7 record in 2021, then reversed that mark last season.

All great radio sports announcers become legends. Lyell Bremser announced Cornhusker football for 45 years. Kent Pavelka has announced over one-thousand NU men’s basketball games.

Vin Scully created radio theatre of the mind announcing Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers baseball from 1950 to 2016. Harry Carey wasn’t far behind, describing St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Athletics, Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Cubs baseball for a combined 53 years. And then there is KCOW’s Mike Glesinger.

The 65-year-old Spaulding, NE native has announced Alliance Bulldogs sports on KCOW Radio for 37 years in legendary fashion. Mike recalls that he had missed only one Alliance High football game since 1988. Season number 38 will be his last. Retirement begins on January 1, 2024.

The first two broadcasts of the 2023 Bulldog season have found Glesinger switching positions in the broadcast booth. Mike is the color announcer for his successor, Alex Benzegala, who is now KCOW’s chief play-by-play announcer.

Alex has already announced Bulldog football, softball and volleyball games and Spartan baseball games.

Glesinger's catchphrase is "Oh My!" Alex’s catchphrase following exciting plays is, “Dear, Mama!” The catchphrase comes from his favorite song, "Dear Mama" by the late rapper Tupac Shakur, in honor of his mom.

&nbsp;Benzegala, 31, is a native of Gig Harbor, Washington. "Alliance is a great sports town, and it actually reminds me of my hometown," Alex said. “Alliance really supports their athletes and teams, win or lose.”

Benzegala, who also serves as KCOW’s news director, is very aware he is sharing a microphone with a broadcast legend.

“I was also excited to work with Mike before he retires. His knowledge of past players, coaches and teams is incredible. His stories are wonderful to listen to and very educational.”

Here’s predicting that Glesinger’s memories of serving as the eyes for thousands of listeners since 1986 will linger – to infinity and beyond.

“I truly never thought I would do this for 38 years,” Glesinger admits. “But I got in that comfort zone that I never wanted to leave.”

Glesinger replaced Mike Gastineau, who left Alliance for an announcing job in Virginia. The first game the second Mike G. would announce on KCOW was an eight-man contest in Mullen when the Broncos hosted the Alliance St. Agnes Academy Crusaders in early September 1986.

“To be honest with you, I honestly don’t remember the very first Alliance High football broadcast, he said. “I think it was Alliance at Kimball the week after that St. Agnes-Mullen game.”

His first two years were spent splitting time between Alliance High and St. Agnes. When the Academy closed its high school in May 1988, all his focus turned to the Bulldogs. He has witnessed blazes of glory along the trail.

“Alliance St. Agnes winning the State Volleyball Championship in 1987 was certainly a thrill,” he said. “As were the 1988 and 1989 Alliance High Boys basketball teams that competed at state. They only lost two games in two years. The Bulldog girls’ basketball team also competed at state six of seven years between 1996 and 2002, which was a lot of fun.”

Through 37+ seasons, Glesinger, an avid reader, has been aboard the roller-coaster that includes state champion seasons to those with zero victories.

While the team’s final records have been inconsistent through the years, the coaches and athletic administrators have not.

“No matter whom they were or what they coached, they always have been accessible and very easy to get along with,” Glesinger said. “That isn’t the case with every radio station that covers high school sports in this state. Some athletic directors don’t want to see radio stations around because they have this silly notion that we drive away crowds. That’s not the case in Alliance. Our coaches know the radio station only promotes their programs and helps create interest. That has been the case in Alliance since the day I met Skip Olds." What was the most thrilling moment?

“The 1992 Alliance-Scottsbluff football game was the most exciting high school football game I’ve ever witnessed,” he reminisced. “Late in the game Alliance’s Chris Nelson ran the old guard-around play for something like 40 yards. Alliance then scored a touchdown a few plays later and won the game by four or five points."

Another football thriller took place ten years later. Alliance traveled across the state and beat Beatrice in three overtimes, 35-34.

“Not only was it a thrilling game, but it also gave Alliance its first football playoff victory in the school’s history,” he stressed.

But his top thrill was the Alliance Boys beating Beatrice in the finals of the 2001 Boys State Basketball Tournament and the Alliance Girls State Championship run in March 2007. The most crushing Alliance defeat he ever announced was a four-point overtime loss to Lincoln Pius X in the semifinals of the 2000 Boys State Basketball Tournament. “Alliance should never have lost that game,” he opined. “Heck, we had a lead of at least ten points late in the third quarter. That really stung. But the pain went away the next year when we won state.”

Just like a million other Nebraskans, his favorite team is the Cornhuskers.

“The most exciting athletic event I attended but didn’t announce was the 1978 Nebraska/Oklahoma game in Lincoln. I was a student at the U at the

time. My whole dorm floor sat in the east stands and watched the game together.”

The Cornhuskers upset the No. 1 ranked Sooners and Heisman Trophy winner Billy Sims that cold, gray November day, 17-14.

Glesinger moved from the east stands to the press box of Memorial Stadium a few years later to announce NU football games on KRNU, the campus radio station. Each radio station originating a football broadcast had its own private booth.

Now, decades years later, Glesinger enjoys his own private booth at Bulldog Stadium.

The Alliance Booster Club donated $45,000 to build the new facility, which opened in September 2005.

For Glesinger, whose honors include receiving the Alliance Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Service Award in 2016, the press box was well worth the exercise in patience.

“It wasn't the first time I’ve had to wait to get something I really wanted,” he said. “After all, it took me six years to graduate from college. But I tell people that’s because I was red-shirted for two years."

The Chadron State College rodeo will open the schedule in the Central Rocky Mountain Region this weekend, Sept. 15-17, at the Dawes County Fairgrounds at the north end Chadron.&nbsp;

By: Con MarshallThe Chadron State College rodeo will open the schedule in the Central Rocky Mountain Region this weekend, Sept. 15-17, at the Dawes County Fairgrounds at the north end Chadron.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; With at least 500 entries anticipated there will be plenty of action and competition.Slack sessions will begin at 1 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday so all the contestants can compete. They are open to the public without charge. The evening performances will start at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.&nbsp; The top 10 in all nine events will advance to finals that will begin at 10 o’clock Sunday, preceded by Cowboy Church at 8 a.m. in the fairgrounds grandstand.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Chadron State’s new rodeo coach, Lane Day, is excited about this year’s team.&nbsp; He believes it has lots of potential.There are 17 cowgirls and 13 cowboys on the rosters. More than half of the women have joined the team this fall while all but four of the men competed for Chadron State last season.&nbsp; Fifteen of the women and nine of the men are Nebraskans.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; General admission to the evening performances and the finals on Sunday is $10 per person except youths 12 and under who will be admitted free.&nbsp; There’s also no charge for CSC students, employees and Golden Eagles, the retired CSC personnel.
