It’s been a hot, dry summer, and boaters visiting Lake Minatare and Box Butte state recreation areas may find launching and loading boats to be a challenge in coming weeks.

Because of low water levels, the docks have reached the end of their track systems, making them unusable until the water rises sometime after irrigation season.

Dan Thornton, Lake Minatare superintendent, said the dock there is expected to be completely out of the water before the coming weekend.

“There isn't much rock at that end of the ramp, so putting boats in will be difficult at best,” he said.

Robert Hughes, Box Butte superintendent, said the dock is not in the water there, but about 50 feet of ramp remains there and the lake should remain accessible to boat trailers.

Another Panhandle reservoir, Whitney Lake, has been unconducive for launching boats for several weeks as low water has left its ramp and dock high and dry.

CHADRON – Chadron State College student Austin Alexander, an ROTC cadet in the Mount Rushmore Battalion, spent three weeks this summer in Honolulu at Cadet Troop Leader Training (CTLT).

The junior from Newell, South Dakota, is studying criminal justice, forensic science, and seeking a minor in military science.

According to Assistant Professor of Military Science Colin Webster, Alexander was originally selected for a special training, called Robin Sage, because she ranked high on the Order of Merit List based on her physical training (PT), leadership, grades, and participation in college extracurricular activities. Unfortunately, her flight was canceled and because of the high-security nature of her assignment, it could not be rescheduled. She was offered CTLT in lieu of Robin Sage.

At CTLT, she divided her training time between a Light Armor Cavalry Regiment and the other half with an Aviation Unit.

“CTLT was an opportunity to work with active duty, real Army soldiers and get to experience their everyday life. We started each day at 6 a.m. for PT. CTLT teaches you how to interact with the soldiers and trains you to be a leader so by the time you commission,” Alexander said. “The last week we were out in the field for six days and did night operations with night vision goggles and set up defenses, ambushes, and did reconnaissance.”

She said the most difficult physical challenge was called water can PT.

“We filled a 45-pound water can and carried it in a two-member team for about half a mile and then pushed it across a football field to our partner who pushed it back. Then we did 50 pushups, pushed the water can back and forth again, did 50 air squats, then 15 burpees. We repeated that workout for 45 minutes,” she said.

Members of the aviation unit took Alexander and other cadets for an hour-long helicopter ride around the island so they could see the sunset over the ocean.

“That was probably the coolest part,” she said.

Alexander’s career goals include two possible tracks. If she commissions in the active-duty Army, she is considering aviation. If she opts for civilian life, she would like to go to law school.

Ash Hollow State Historical Park will host its annual rendezvous Sept. 9-11. The rendezvous will allow park visitors to absorb themselves in pre-1840 history, unique culture and educate themselves of an era gone by.

Rendezvous were historically held in the fall between fur traders and local Native American tribes and were a time to gather, share trade goods such as skins, furs, beads, food items, weapons, and knowledge. It was a time to relax, make money, and have some fun.

There will be demonstrations of black powder shooting, tomahawk throwing, recurve bow and arrow shooting, open fire cooking, trap setting, canoeing, along with traders row where goods can be viewed and purchased. Cowboy poet and singer/songwriter John Horton will be preforming throughout the day and food vendors will be on location for the event.

A living history tent, emulating the spirit of American men and women of the era will host historical re-enactors speaking on subjects such as the newest kitchen utensils, fashion, political issues, current events, a card playing table and people that lived in 1876.

A mountain man run, or fur traders version of an iron man event, will consist of tomahawk throwing, canoeing, trap setting, black powder rifle shooting, and fire starting is open to the public. Pre-registration is required by calling Teaspoon Stots, the Rendezvous Booshway at 801-719-9330.

Ash Hollow opens at 9 a.m. MT and the events are free to attend. Vehicles require a valid park entry permit, which can be purchased at the park or online at OutdoorNebraska.gov. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.

For several months now we've been dealing with inflation. Prices have gone up on our groceries, gas, rent, pretty much everything we buy. What causes inflation? Basically, it is an imbalance between supply and demand, and this year both of those are factors.

Usually inflation is demand-based. The high inflation of the 1970's and 80's was caused by baby boomers all becoming adults. They left home, needed cars, clothes, apartments; then they added houses, furniture, appliances, things for their own families. For the first time most women entered the labor market, so households had more money to spend. People were willing to buy more and pay more, so prices went up.

This round of inflation was set off by Covid. For a few months the world came to a standstill. Children didn't go to school. Many people didn't go to work. Factories, restaurants, transportation - so much was shut down. Goods that had been produced overseas sat in ships not allowed to dock and unload. Grocery store shelves sat empty; non-perishables were hoarded and fresh meat and produce couldn't be processed. We've all heard about the "supply-chain problems." We still have shortages of some items like semiconductors and fertilizer needed to produce other goods, what economists call supply constraints.

With so many people temporarily laid off, the government stepped up with some financial stimulus payments. The Federal Reserve cut interest rates to banks to zero. People spent a lot of time shopping and comparing on the Internet. Demand went way up for durable goods like appliances and entertainment systems. But the goods and services were not there. High demand plus low supply equals price increases.

After Covid vaccines were developed, people could return to work. However, not everyone chose to do so. Many took early retirement. Parents decided that one of them could stay home with children. The United States limited immigration. Our labor force participation is lower than it has been in decades. There are labor shortages in nearly every community. High demand for labor plus low supply means wages are going up.

Covid hit in early 2020. Now, two and a half years later, we are still seeing major effects. Many businesses had scaled back. This included oil refineries and airlines. If you've travelled this summer, you know airports are packed and flights are delayed. Ticket prices have skyrocketed. Tourist destinations are packed. We had lots of pent-up demand and want to get out again. And many of us saved money so we could.

One thing we cannot control will continue to create inflation problems for a while - the War between Russia and Ukraine. Why would the Ukraine crisis cause our prices to go up? Russia is the world's third largest supplier of oil, after the United States and Saudi Arabia. Ukraine is a "breadbasket" nation, supplying grain for much of the eastern hemisphere. With those

products pulled from the world market, we will continue to see supply shortages and, therefore, higher prices.

Congress has passed the Inflation Reduction Act, controlling prescription drug prices and investing in energy production. The Federal Reserve has raised interest rates, making it harder for people to borrow money, as they try to lower demand. Their goal is to return inflation to rate of about 2%. But that probably won't happen for a while.

ALLIANCE - PREMA has pledged to donate $5,000 per year for the next five years, totaling $25,000 to the Western Nebraska Community College Powerline Construction &amp; Maintenance program.

Ryan Reiber, PREMA general manager, presented the first $5,000 from PREMA and a matching $5,000 check from CoBank to Jennifer Reisig, WNCC foundation executive director and Shane Homan, WNCC Powerline instructor on Aug. 19. PREMA can reapply for the matching funds from CoBank each year to effectively double the donation.

"Matching grants are a powerful opportunity for community organizations to match their gifts and double the impact they have on our students and programs at WNCC," Reisig said. "We are so grateful to PREMA for their historical and ongoing support of the Powerline program with their gift and facilitation of the matching grant from CoBank. Thank you, Ryan, and the board of directors at PREMA.”

The donations will be used to purchase equipment for the Powerline program.&nbsp;

In June, the WCCA Board of Governors passed BP-306 - Equipment and Technology&nbsp;Replacement Funding, which allows&nbsp;the college to set an annual target funding level at three percent&nbsp;of the General Fund Budget for equipment and technology acquisition and replacement. Funding sources will include general fund, private gifts and bequests, corporate donations, grants, and year-end re-appropriation of unexpended General Fund Budget.

"Thanks to the WNCC Board and staff for seeing the need for better equipment at the Powerline program and other programs at the college," Reiber said. "It is important to our industry partners that WNCC has a sustainable plan for the acquisition and replacement of equipment and technology in our programs."

PREMA, and other rural and municipal&nbsp;electric partners in the Panhandle were integral in helping start the WNCC Powerline program in 2006. PREMA was also named the Friend of the College by the WNCC Foundation in 2019.

Queen Elizabeth II had served as head of state in the United Kingdom for over 70 years, since ascending to the throne on February 6th, 1952. &nbsp;Her reign as queen was the longest of any British monarch.&nbsp; She passed away earlier today in Scotland at age 96.

Flags should be flown at half-staff&nbsp;until sunset on&nbsp;the day of her interment.

POST PODCAST: Alliance Recreation Center

CHADRON – Cooper Reichman, a Rangeland Wildlife Management major, worked as an interpretive ranger at Mount St. Helens National Monument this summer. The native of Chappell, Nebraska, said he likes to tell people he is minoring in adventure.

Reichman felt he was prepared to be a good interpretive ranger based on skills he learned in range classes.

“My coursework gave me the tools I needed, as well as the mindset to understand good land management,” he said.

“Going into the job understanding that you will be living on the longest dead-end road in Washington state and knowing you will not have a lot of connection with the outside world attracts a certain kind of people. I am thankful I got the chance to share that special place with them and experience it in a way most people usually don't get the chance to,” Reichman said.

After graduating from CSC, Reichman hopes to continue working for the U.S. Forest Service or a similar agency such as the Bureau of Land Management or the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

“This opportunity gave me a good chance to see some new areas of the country and to see some career avenues within public land management agencies. I got the chance to live and work with a lot of people from all over the U.S. so that was an awesome opportunity to others with different backgrounds and points of view,” he said.

Reichman and his co-workers lived in government housing with no cell service or Wi-Fi so they entertained themselves in their free time with puzzles, board games, and basketball.

“I learned a lot about Mount St. Helens. For example, after the May 18, 1980, eruption, many ecologists believed it would take hundreds of years before life would return to the area. But 42 years later, 90 percent of the species of animals and plants present before the eruption can be seen there today,” he said.

He said even the drive to and from Washington state was an interesting experience providing fodder he can reflect upon during his classes this fall.

“I feel like I learned a lot about myself and realized I need to take more time for myself and to go outside of my comfort zone more often to embrace exciting adventures,” he said.

Reichman of Chappell says ‘Geology rocks’

37-year-old Ryan McElroy of Salina, KS &nbsp;plead guilty to a motor vehicle homicide DUI, Class 2 Felony in Box Butte County District Court on Aug. 24.

McElroy will serve a minimum penalty of one-year imprisonment, with a maximum of 50 years. McElroy's charges of manslaughter (Class 2 Felony), DUI-third offense (Class W Misdemeanor), and reckless driving (Class 3 Misdemeanor) were dropped due to a plea agreement of pleading guilty to motor vehicle homicide.

On April 10, McElroy killed 22-year-old Blythe Boness of Alliance in a vehicle crash on Highway 2. “At that time, the defendant, Ryan J. McElroy, was traveling&nbsp;westbound&nbsp;on Highway 2 as the driver and sole occupant of a red 2011 Chevrolet Camaro,” Deputy County Attorney Travis Rodak said. “At approximately mile marker 92.5 in Box Butte County, McElroy crossed the center line and began driving in the&nbsp;eastbound&nbsp;lane of Highway 2. Boness made an evasive maneuver toward the north shoulder, and the defendant made an evasive maneuver to return to his lane and struck Boness’ vehicle. Boness was killed as a result of the ensuing collision.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

McElroy was extracted from his vehicle by first responders and flown to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff for treatment. His Blood Alcohol Content was .235 grams per 100 ml of blood.

McElroy was previously convicted of a DUI in Gage County on June 12, 2008.

McElroy's sentencing is set for Nov. 7.&nbsp;

Winning $22K 2by2 ticket sold in Grand Island

On Tuesday, Governor Pete Ricketts toured portions of the South Platte River Basin with state officials. &nbsp;The visit offered a firsthand look at drought conditions and included a windshield survey of possible routes and reservoir locations for the Perkins County Canal, the project designed to protect and preserve South Platte River water coming into Nebraska from Colorado.&nbsp; &nbsp;

The Governor was accompanied by Attorney General Doug Peterson; Speaker of the Legislature Mike Hilgers; and Tom Riley, the Director of the Department of Natural Resources.

“Much of the state is in drought,” said Governor Ricketts. &nbsp;“This visit reinforced the need for us to protect every drop of South Platte River water we can.&nbsp; The Perkins County Canal is essential for this purpose.”&nbsp;

Preliminary work on the canal project is progressing.&nbsp;

“At this time, we are following the path laid out by the Legislature as we work toward realizing the vision of a fully functional canal and reservoir system within the next few years,” explained Director Riley.&nbsp; “This includes a study of the project, as well as preliminary design and building plans. &nbsp;In the meantime, we are actively pursuing option agreements for properties along the general canal corridor.&nbsp; And, of course, we are continuing to dialog regularly with our counterparts in Colorado.”

An independent report on the canal’s costs, benefits, and water supply is expected in December.

LINCOLN, NEB. — Nebraska State Troopers took 66 impaired drivers off the road during the latest&nbsp;Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over&nbsp;campaign.

“This has been a busy summer on Nebraska roadways,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Our troopers and dispatchers have been working day and night to keep Nebraskans and our visitors safe. As the summer driving seasons ends, we encourage all motorists to also do their part to keep our roads safe.”

During the campaign, which ran from August 19 through September 5, troopers arrested 66 people for driving under the influence.&nbsp;Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over&nbsp;is made possible thanks in part to a grant for $26,550 from the Nebraska Department of Transportation - Highway Safety Office.

In addition to the 66 drivers arrested for driving under the influence, troopers also issued citations for speeding (1,217), driving under suspension (91), open alcohol container (37), minor in possession of alcohol (27), no proof of insurance (63), no seat belt (24), and improper child restraint (22). Troopers also assisted 722 motorists and investigated 74 crashes.

Labor Day weekend also marks the close of the summer driving season. Throughout the summer, troopers gave dozens of safety presentations and participated in localized enforcement campaigns. Since Memorial Day, troopers have made 274 arrests for impaired driving. Troopers also performed more than 4,400 motorist assists during the summer months.

“Summer travel is now in the rear view, so now is a great time to get prepared for changing weather patterns,” said Colonel Bolduc. “But no matter the season, everyone should always drive sober.”&nbsp;

Troopers arrest 66 impaired drivers during 'Drive Sober Campaign'

CHADRON – Chadron State College students in Geoscience courses are able to conduct analysis of solid materials with the college’s first portable X-Ray Fluorescence unit (pXRF) purchased&nbsp;with a grant written by Professor&nbsp;Dr. Mike&nbsp;Leite and Assistant Professor Dr. Tawny Tibbits from the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nsf.gov/od/oia/programs/epscor/index.jsp" target="_blank">Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research: a National Science Foundation program</a>&nbsp;(EPSCoR).

“We were fortunate to be awarded the grant through EPSCoR and to be awarded a 20 percent matching grant through the CSC Research Institute,” Tibbits said.

Thanks to the support, the Geoscience program purchased an Olympus Vanta XRF unit.

Tibbits explained that the unit ejects an X-Ray that excites the electrons. The atoms in the material being analyzed emit a specific light. The unit reads and displays the specific light frequencies that correspond to a specific mineral or element.&nbsp;The XRF can produce precise and accurate chemical data in less than a minute.

“Our unit has two different levels of energy which provides a better picture. It lets us see a wider spectrum of elements on the periodic table.&nbsp;It's really good feature to have when you are looking at unknowns,” Tibbits

The unit is safe for students to use because the X-Ray is focused on the object being analyzed and when it is not touching a sample, the unit powers down. Leite and Tibbits also purchased a benchtop stand that has a lead-lined chamber to analyze materials in classroom or lab settings.

Leite took the pXRF unit to Field Camp this summer where&nbsp;Kaitlyn Smith of Hackberry, Arizona,&nbsp;collected rocks and data for her Capstone II course research.&nbsp;&nbsp;

During this academic year, Brady McDaniel of Chadron and Rowdy Pfeil of Moorcroft, Wyoming,&nbsp;will use the pXRF unit to analyze items in CSC collections.

“Rowdy is going to analyze and confirm identifications on our meteorite collection. He's going to make sure our irons are iron and our stony irons are, in fact, stony irons,” Tibbits said. “Brady is going to look through some collections in the museum and make sure we understand a bit more about what we've got and check that we have everything correctly identified.”

Tibbits&nbsp;used a pXRF unit during her dissertation in Belize.&nbsp;

“It was one of the cornerstones of how I was able to analyze granite. Compared to the old method of grinding up the stone,&nbsp;doing&nbsp;all sorts of time consuming and expensive sample prep, and waiting for results from a distant lab, we can now find out data almost instantly and leave the material intact, if needed,” she said. “Within seconds you can get a full chemical output on any solid material. This unit is very accurate.”

Tibbits and Leite have plans to expand use of the pXRF unit, sharing it with faculty and students in the Rangeland program.

“It can produce good results on soil cores and soil samples starting at magnesium and running all the way up through uranium,” Tibbits said.

SCOTTSBLUFF, NEB. — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol arrested three people after locating multiple stolen firearms and controlled substances during a traffic stop in Cheyenne County.

The incident occurred Friday at approximately 6:50 a.m. MT when a trooper observed a Nissan Versa speeding as it was traveling westbound on I-80 near Lodgepole. During the traffic stop, the trooper detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was also found to have a suspended license.

Troopers performed a search of the vehicle. During the search, the troopers located four handguns, two of which were discovered to be stolen, and a rifle. Troopers also located suspected MDMA pills and a small amount of marijuana.

The driver, Deontre Harris, 27, of Kansas City, Missouri, and passenger Linford Garrett, 21, of Independence, Missouri, were arrested for possession of amphetamines, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm during a drug violation, possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. CHADRON – Twelve new faculty members will join Chadron State College this fall. They are Dr. Janet Anthony,&nbsp;Julian Berrian,&nbsp;Dr. Jami Clifford, Dr. Nathan Favaloro, Jeremiah Downes, Jeremy Quick, Dr. Haesong Kwon, Danielle Covolo,&nbsp;Katelyn Lambert,&nbsp;Dr. Gabriella M. Pruitt Santos, and Matthew Bower. Finally, Dr. Bryan Dorrel will be an Associate Professor in the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Department.

In addition to the new faculty, two current Business Academy faculty earned their doctorate degrees this summer. They are Dr. Caitlin Redden and Dr. Daphne Bishop.

Education,&nbsp;Counseling, Psychological Sciences, and Social Work

Anthony is an Associate Professor who will teach 400-level courses in Elementary, Secondary, and Middle School Classroom Management, Human Relations and Secondary/Middle School Assessment. She will also instruct two sections of Intro to Teaching (EDUC 131).

Anthony said she was attracted to Chadron State College by the opportunity to work her dream job as a professor to pre-service teachers.

“Upon visiting Chadron, the first thing I noticed was the size of the campus. It instantly reminded me of my first two years as an undergrad student. The population was small and I made memorable relationships and long-lasting friendships. After meeting and speaking with the Education faculty, I knew I would be working amongst a group of passionate, yet friendly and relatable individuals who love the profession as much as I do,” Anthony said.

She earned a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University, a master’s in Reading and Language Arts with an endorsement for Reading Specialist, and a specialist degree in Administration Leadership from Oakland University. Anthony has a bachelor’s in Community Health Education from Western Michigan University and has conducted special research on the Impact of the Switch from Traditional to Online Learning at Mott Community College.

Clifford is a Lecturer who will remotely teach Introduction to the Exceptional Learner (SPED 230), Microteaching in Early Childhood Education/Elementary/Middle School/Secondary Special Education (SPED 317), Behavior Modification and Management (SPED 331), and Research and Design and Data Analysis (EDCI 631).

She was an adjunct last year and enjoyed working with CSC students.

“Everyone was very helpful and willing to answer any questions I had. The opportunity to work as a remote lecturer was a perfect fit for me," Clifford said.

She earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Wyoming, a master’s in Special Education from Northern Arizona University, and a bachelor’s in Elementary and Special Education from Minot State University.

Favaloro is an&nbsp;Assistant Professor teaching Practicum-School Counseling (COUN 602), School Counseling (COUN 635), and Advanced Human Development (COUN 637).&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

“My biggest attractions to CSC include the work environment and the kindness of faculty members," Favaloro said.

Favaloro earned a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision and a master’s in School Counseling from the University of Holy Cross. He earned a bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of New Orleans.

Communication,&nbsp;Music,&nbsp;Art, and&nbsp;Theatre&nbsp;

Julian Berrian will be an Associate Professor teaching Advanced Video Production (CA 445), Broadcast Production (CA 345), Video Production (CA 245), Audio Production (CA 215), and Public Speaking (CA 155).

He said he was drawn to CSC by the prospect of helping to develop the school's new media production concentration.

“Moreover, I have found Chadron and the surrounding region to be scenic as well as conducive to a good quality of life,” he said.

Berrian earned a Master of Fine Arts from Temple University and a bachelor’s from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Downes is an Instructor teaching Principles of Acting (TH 134), Acting for Musical Theatre (TH 355), Voice Lessons for Musical Theatre, Stage Direction, Beginning Directing (TH 237), Acting Methods (TH255), and Acting Periods and Styles (TH434).

He was struck by how robust the Theatre and Music programs are at CSC.

“It was clear to me that there exists a great passion for the arts both in the college infrastructure and the region at large. I also truly appreciate the community feel at CSC, the potential for cross-curricular collaboration, and the impact I'm able to have on our students, on stage and off," Downes said.

He earned his bachelor’s from the University of the Arts and his Master of Music from Oklahoma City University. He completed additional acting training at Circle in the Square, in New York City. He has more than 15 years of experience as a professional equity actor and musician in New York City and Philadelphia.

Katelyn Lambert will be a Lecturer teaching Fundamentals of Oral Communication (CA 125) , Event Planning and Leadership (CA 239), and Applied Public Relations (CA 350).

She is a CSC alumna and wanted to return to campus to teach after she earned a master’s in Communication from the University of Nebraska Omaha.

“Chadron is such a unique community, and CSC is filled with faculty that make great mentors, so I knew this is where I wanted to come teach before entering a PhD program,” she said.

She recently presented two research articles on pop culture at the Central States Communication Association Conference.

Quick is an Instructor who will teach Guitar Ensemble (MUS 111), Music Pathways (MUS 141), Guitar Class (MUS 216), Recording Techniques (MUS 335), (MUS 235) Music Appreciation, and private guitar and bass lessons.

Quick said he was drawn to CSC by the opportunity to teach guitar and bass, as well as the emphasis on student-focused academic practices.

He earned a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado and a bachelor’s in Liberal Arts from Montana State University.

Justice Studies, Social Sciences, and English

Kwon is an Assistant Professor who will teach Rhetoric and Writing (ENG 135) and Advanced Topics in Creative Writing (ENG 498).

He said his English colleagues impressed him as dedicated teachers and researchers.

“I find Chadron to be small, but also beautiful. I imagine CSC students to be earnest learners,” Kwon said.

He earned a doctorate at Oklahoma State University, master’s degrees from both the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the Iliff School of Theology. His bachelor’s is from Clark University.

Covolo is an Instructor teaching Multicultural Issues in Criminal Justice (CJ 336) and two sections of The Academic Life (EDUC 121).

"As an undergraduate, I had the opportunity to study abroad with the CSC Justice Studies Department. I spent three weeks abroad in the United Kingdom studying Comparative Criminal Justice. Dr. Nobiling and Dr. Wada were enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and creative; they made the experience unforgettable. Their class inspired me to study abroad for two years in Russia and pursue a Ph.D.,” Covolo said. “Teaching at CSC was my academic career aspiration since the college serves rural students and first-generation students."

She is pursuing a doctorate in Administration Leadership and Service from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was a 2020 Graduate Fellowship Recipient. She earned a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from New Mexico State University, and a bachelor’s from the University of Wyoming.

She completed Russian Language courses at Privet Language School in Kaliningrad, Russia, in 2013-14.

Pruitt Santos is an&nbsp;Instructor teaching Introduction to Political Science (PS 101), US Politics and Civic Engagement (PS 110), Politics and Economics (PS 210), US Politics and Government (PS 321), Global Politics (PS 332), Political Inquiry (PS 410), and Democracy: US and the World (PS 439/PS 539).

Pruitt Santos said the welcoming community and small class sizes at CSC made Chadron a clear choice for her.

“I want to contribute to my students' academic and professional development,” she said.

She earned a doctorate in Global Studies from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, a master’s in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from American University, and a bachelor’s in Political Science from California State University, San Marcos.

Business, Mathematics, and Science

Bower is an Instructor teaching Principles of Management (MGMT 230), Project Management (BIS 430),

Statistics for Business and Economics (BA 336), and System Analysis and Design (BIS 431).

Bower said he had some great, unique experiences in the Air Force and as a business owner, and is honored to become a member of the CSC community.

He earned two masters’ degrees, one in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and another in Religion from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He also has a bachelor’s in Applied Studies from the University of Minnesota. He earned an Associate of Science in Airway Science from the Community College of the Air Force.
