Clifford Emery Lawrence was born June 12, 1923 to emery and Opal Lawrence. He was raised on the family farm northwest of Rushville. He attended school in Rushville and after graduating, he left the United States to serve in World War II as a medic. He was stationed in the Philippines and Okinawa. When the war ended, he watched the surrender plane fly into Okinawa.

The day that he returned home, he was invited to go to a dance and he danced with the love of his life, Donna Westlake. They married July 15, 1947 and her wedding dress was made of silk that Cliff had brought back from Japan. They celebrated 75 years of marriage this year.

Cliff was a carpenter and proud of the places in the area that he helped build.

His hobby was restoring antique cars. He would build them and Donna would do the upholstery work. They would visit their many friends that also had cars. They would travel to swap meets and if Donna couldn’t go, Cliff would go with friends. He had some wonderful trips. His son-in-law Jiggs got involved working on the cars and learning from Cliff. Cliff and Donna traveled to Canada several times a year to visit collectors of cars.

Cliff decided he would start his own business building the wood car bodies for antique car collectors. He did this until he retired.

He is survived by his wife Donna; his son Gary (Becky) Lawrence, his daughter Judie (Lewis) McKenny; his grandchildren Shauna Coupens, Shay (Terry) Knapp and Brian Lawrence; his great grandchildren Jacie and Keegan Coupens; his brother and sister-in-law Elwin and Doris Lawrence.

Preceding him in death are his parents Opal and Emery; his granddaughter Shannon McKenny, brother Ralph Lawrence and sister-in-law Marilyn Lawrence; sister Ruth Hindman and brother-in-law Bob Hindman; nieces Donna Jean Hindman and Carol Hall; and Nephew Jerry Lawrence.

Graveside services with Military Rites will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the Hay Springs Cemetery with reception to follow at the Hay Springs United Methodist Church after the services.

Lillian Kay Chapman, 62 was born April 9, 1960 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Alvin Ray and Irene Virginia (Turley) Chapman.&nbsp;&nbsp; Lillian, her twin Linda and 5 other siblings grew up on the family farm east of Norfolk.&nbsp; She attended grade school at District 87 in Norfolk and graduated from Norfolk High School in 1978.&nbsp;&nbsp; On June 23, 1978 she was united in marriage to Gary Dean Johnson.&nbsp; To this union two children, Angela and Adam were born.&nbsp; She worked various food service jobs throughout her life.&nbsp; The most recent was Arby’s.&nbsp; She loved serving and visiting with her customers.&nbsp; She lived in Alliance for the last 14 years and worked until she retired due to illness.

Lillian loved her children and grandchildren.&nbsp; She sacrificed of herself for others; in 1985 she gave a kidney to her twin sister.&nbsp; She loved to bake and blessed others with her breads and other baked goods.&nbsp; She battled cancer for over 2 years and spent the last 6 weeks at the Hemingford Community Care Center in Hemingford where she passed away on Saturday September 3, 2022.

Lillian is survived by her children, Angela Kay (Richard) Flood of Alliance and Adam Dean Chapman of Norfolk, NE and her grandchildren, Charity Flood, Nathan Jarvis, Christofer Arcos, Leslie Arcos, Ivyl Flood, Nason Flood, Myra Flood, Ozuia Flood, Secret Flood, Summer Flood, Alyssa Schwindt, Kale Schwindt and Asher Johnson.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Larry (Beverly) Chapman of Denver, Leon Chapman of Norfolk, Loralie (William) Jarvis of Norfolk, brothers-in-law, Lester Coughtry of Norfolk and Tom Fryer of Omaha and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister Linda Fryer, brother Lee Chapman, sister Lois Coughtry and sisters-in-law Mary Chapman and Carol Chapman.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 8 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to service time.&nbsp; Cremation will follow the service with interment at a later date.

Victor Plasencio, 80, of Torrington, Wyoming, died Friday, September 2, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2022, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff, Nebraska with Pastor David Luna officiating. Victor was born November 9, 1941, in Eden, Texas to Febronio and Guadalupe (Martinez) Plasencio.&nbsp; He enjoyed boxing in his teenage years.

Victor met and married Gloria Jimenez.&nbsp; Victor worked hard providing for their growing family.&nbsp; He primarily farmed and provided agriculture-related services.&nbsp; He and his family resided in California for about ten years and during that time he owned and operated a mechanic shop.&nbsp; Victor was also employed at Western Sugar for some time.

He was a talented gardener. Victor grew a bountiful harvest every summer until this year when his ill-health prevented him from doing so.&nbsp; He would give away nearly all of the produce to friends, family, and anyone in need throughout the Wyobraska area.&nbsp; He was very considerate and giving to others.&nbsp; Victor was firm when necessary, but everything was done out of love.

Survivors include his siblings, Ysabel Plasencio, Febronio Plasencio Jr., Belen (David) Luna, and Virginia (Joe) Salazar; children, Virginia Plasencio, Victoria Plasencio, Patrick Plasencio, Velma Perez, Victor Mark Plasencio, Veronica Plasencio, Vera May Plasencio, Lupe Plasencio, and Valerie Plasencio; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; his beloved dog, Copper; and countless nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Kenneth Lyle Korte, 80, died August 30, 2022 at his home in Chadron, NE. Ken is survived by his son Jason Korte (wife Nicole) of Alliance, NE and Hilory Martin (husband Joe) of Bayard, NE, grandchildren Hannah, Madison, Emmerae, Madelyn, Makayla and Wyatt and nephew Aaron Manning. He was preceded in death by his father Clem Korte, his mother Laverne (Coons) Korte and his sister Rhonda Varner.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ken was born in Torrington, WY on February 6, 1942. After graduating from Torrington High School Ken later attended Chadron State College where he received a Bachelors Degree in Education. Ken worked as a teacher for a short time in Hyannis, NE and later moved to Helena, MT where he was the director of Montana State Historical Society for a number of years. Later in life Ken moved back to Nebraska and worked for Chadron State College where his last position was Interim Director for the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center on campus. After retirement he worked part time as a bailiff for the Dawes County Courthouse.

Ken was a history buff and loved reading many books about the Civil War. He also had a small collection of memorabilia from that era that he was very proud of. If he wasn’t reading books he enjoyed working on his classic cars. He was also one of the organizers of the classic car show held every year in Chadron.

A memorial service will be held September 6 at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, NE at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.

Kenneth Lyle Korte (1942 - 2022)

Dixie Lou Howell, 82, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

She was born August 19, 1940 in Alliance, NE to Arthur Dennis and Thelma Viola (Porter) Sims. At age 16 Dixie was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Alliance.&nbsp;

Shortly after her mother’s passing she married Darrell Lee Howell on December 7, 1957.&nbsp; Dixie worked at various jobs until her and Darrell purchased the Daisy Queen and operated it for 4 years.&nbsp; She then worked for Electric Hose and Rubber Company and Dayco for 25 years before retiring.&nbsp; After retiring her and Darrell traveled in the RV to numerous places until her husband’s health declined.&nbsp; Dixie loved watching her husband race stock cars and later watching her husband and son race together. Her involvement with the races in Alliance included her helping with the concession stand and even racing her husband’s #9 car in the Powder Puff.&nbsp; She also enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens and feeding her animals, the birds and squirrels that were in her yard.

She is survived by her children, Alvie (Lynn) Howell of Alliance, Patty (Michael) Brennan of Gillette, WY, Jacki Howell (Tracy Buskirk) and Kathy Wright (Dean Rippe) all of Alliance, her grandchildren, Lindsay Christen of Cheyenne, WY,&nbsp; Ashley Christen (Jaramie Toedtli) of Alliance, Tyler Howell of Alliance, Elizabeth (Bryant) Smith of Gillette, WY, Christopher (Elizabeth) Brennan of Freeman, MO, James Brennan (Gloria Perez) of Woodland, CA, Jessica (Shaun) Lundy of Alliance, Daniel Moore of Alliance, Jessica&nbsp; (Jonathan) Shockley of Attala, Al, Lennie Rae Wright of Albertville, Al and Cassandra (Michael) Schreiner of Alliance and 21 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Pat Howell of Alliance.

Dixie Lou Howell (1940 - 2022)

Dian Lee (Kinser) Eggleston was born December 17, 1954, to Morris and Echo Kinser in Alliance, Nebraska. She passed away unexpectedly in her home on August 18, 2022, after battling several illnesses including congestive heart failure. Though Dian’s health continued to fail over the years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. It would be wrong to say that Dian lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, she stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Dian. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.

The youngest of eight children, Dian spent many years in Alliance but also lived in Colorado and South Dakota. She loved camping in the Rocky Mountains, antiquing, searching for treasures at garage sales and flea markets, playing cards, and reading. She was a talented artist and had a flare for interior decorating. Dian valued family and friends and she treasured each and every moment she was able to spend with them. She loved animals, especially dogs, and was known for helping those less fortunate.

Dian is survived by her sons, Dustin and Eric Eggleston, grandson Cameron Eggleston, great- granddaughter Willow, sister, Carol Fraedrich, brother, Ivan Kinser and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Beverly Olson, Derald Kinser, Dan Kinser, Bob Kinser, and William Kinser, and sister-in-laws, Connie Kinser and Roni Kinser.&nbsp; Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.

While Dian’s family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember her in a way that honors her spirit. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the Alliance Cemetery with a Celebration of Life and reception to follow at VFW Post 1517.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Dian’s name to United Methodist Church or PAWS.

Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.The youngest of eight children, Dian spent many years in Alliance but also lived in Colorado and South Dakota. She loved camping in the Rocky Mountains, antiquing, searching for treasures at garage sales and flea markets, playing cards, and reading. She was a talented artist and had a flare for interior decorating. Dian valued family and friends and she treasured each and every moment she was able to spend with them. She loved animals, especially dogs, and was known for helping those less fortunate.Dian is survived by her sons, Dustin and Eric Eggleston, grandson Cameron Eggleston, great- granddaughter Willow, sister, Carol Fraedrich, brother, Ivan Kinser and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Beverly Olson, Derald Kinser, Dan Kinser, Bob Kinser, and William Kinser, and sister-in-laws, Connie Kinser and Roni Kinser.&nbsp; Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.While Dian’s family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember her in a way that honors her spirit. She was born, Melissa Lou Allen, on May 31st, 1966, to Oscar Dean &amp; Vikki Lou Allen, in Alliance, Nebraska, at St. Joseph Hospital. Melissa attended the Alliance Public Schools. Her favorite memories from her youth were the moments spent at her grandma’s farm, and riding horses with her family. Her loves were God, her children and grandchildren, her family, her friends, music, horses and her two kitties. Melissa enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, her family and her close friends. She loved flowers, long walks, and sunny day drives in the country.

Roger Allen Gaertig, 77, left his earthly bonds Friday, August 26, 2022 at Bryan East in Lincoln, NE.&nbsp; He was born October 3, 1944 in Milwaukee, WI to Harry R. Gaertig and Gladys (Hahn) Gaertig. He attended Henry Clay Elementary School and Whitefish Bay High School, Milwaukee, WI. Roger entered the United States Air Force December 6, 1962. He served at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City South Dakota; Pleiku Vietnam, Central Highlands Corps II.&nbsp; He returned to the United States in May, 1966.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged April 1966.&nbsp;

Rog was a houseguest of Tony and Lyda Kuhn in Hemingford, NE from May 1966 until September 3, 1966.&nbsp; He married the love of his life Kathryn Marlene Kuhn on September 3,&nbsp;1966 at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Hemingford, NE. The couple resided in Hemingford for a large portion of their lives. They retired to Hickman, NE where they have spent the last ten years.

Rog was a member of St. Bridget Church (Hemingford), Shephard of the Hills ELCA (Hickman) and Calvary Assembly of God (Alliance).&nbsp; He was a member of the Alliance Legion Club, Hickman Legion Club #105.&nbsp; He served on the Village of Hemingford Board of Trustees, member of the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department for 20 plus years.

Roger was a tractor trailer driver for three years for United Parcel Service (UPS).&nbsp; He then became a package car driver for the remainder of his career.&nbsp; He retired from UPS services 30 years and was a member of the Teamsters local #554.&nbsp; He delivered to the Nebraska Sandhills and was very fond of his customers.&nbsp; He was known as “Rog UPS.”

Roger’s Cathedral and where he was close to God was as an outdoorsman, deer hunter, antelope, pheasant hunting and most of all, fishing.&nbsp; Many a fish fry was hosted at the Gaertig home.

Leaving to mourn his passing are his wife, Kathy, Hickman, NE; daughter, Stacy (Sergio) Medina of Lancaster, OH;&nbsp; Judge Jeffrey (Jeanne) Gaertig of Beatrice, NE; sister Delores (Pete) Nelson of Milwaukee, WI.&nbsp; Grandchildren, Logan (Jane) Zimmerer of Cincinnati, OH; Grant Zimmerer of Lancaster, OH; Michael Medina of Colorado Springs, CO.&nbsp; Kayla, Avery and Mia Gaertig of Beatrice NE.&nbsp; He also leaves behind two great granddaughters, brothers-in-law, Brent (Jeanne) Kuhn, Brian (Sondra) Kuhn, Marty (Jane), Kuhn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Joyce Gaertig, Milwaukee, WI; Howard Gaertig, Milwaukee, WI; Milton Gaertig, Grafton, WI.

Following high school, he enlisted in the US Navy where he served two years as a Signalman. In his time there, he lost the tip of his finger to a hatch door on his Naval Ship and encountered a sunburn so bad that he was charged by the US Marshals for destruction of US Property. He attended the University of Houston for a brief time before deciding to move back to Sidney, NE. Mike was married to Cecilia (Bauerkemper) Watson in his final 12 years of life. Throughout Mike’s career, he held a variety of professions including Insurance sales, spending time as a co-owner and operator of a Motel and RV park, and time in car sales, before landing in his primary profession within Cabela's as the Risk Manager. Mike worked at Cabela’s for over 20 years, retiring in 2012. Mike enjoyed playing softball on traveling teams early in life and shared his love of baseball with his kids by helping coach little league. He raised his children to be passionate in what they believed, and to be strong and independent. He had a lifelong enjoyment for the game of Golf, along with spending time with his close friends and family. Even up to his final days Mike relished completing a good crossword puzzle.

Gretchen was born April 17, 1955 in Kimball, Nebraska, to Anton and Violet (Harms) Pederson. She was a CNA for many years in addition to being mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

She met her husband, Robert “Bob” Connell of Whitney Nebraska, and they were married May 26th, 1968 in Chadron. They moved to Sidney NE, and eventually moved to Scottsbluff NE, after Bob graduated from WNCC. They started an auto body business (Dent Tech) from 1986-2004.

The couple had two children Jill Lynn, and Michael Wayne. Judy was active in league bowling and she and Bob both had teams that their business sponsored. In her final years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and her family.

Judy had one brother (Bill III) Dawkins and 2 nephews. She also had many aunts and uncles and cousins that she was very close to from childhood to adulthood.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Jill Connell of Fort Collins CO, son Michael (Jaimie) Connell and three grandchildren, Jacob, Drake, and Gage all of Scottsbluff NE, brother Bill III Dawkins of Chadron NE, and his two children and grandchildren, mother, Mildred Dawkins of Chadron NE and brother and sister in-law Bill(Joyce) Connell of Platte Center, NE, and their six children and many grandchildren.

Beth Hudson Chain, 94, died Monday, August 15, 2022, surrounded by family in her Scottsbluff home. Pastor Michael Clement will officiate her funeral service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the Dugan-Kramer Funeral Home, 3201 Avenue B in Scottsbluff. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be available on Friday between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Born on December 10, 1927, in Brownsville, Texas, Beth was the oldest of Florence and Charles (“Ted”) Hudson’s four children. She grew up on her family’s citrus farm in the lower Rio Grande Valley. There, near the Mexican border, Beth learned Spanish and enjoyed playing among the farm’s grapefruit, orange, tangerine, and kumquat trees. She often accompanied her father on his nightly walks through the orchard. She remembered his discovery of the world’s first ruby-red grapefruit, which he named “Ted’s Red” and worked for decades to cultivate for sale.

Beth graduated from San Benito High School, where students voted her “Best All-Round Girl.” She then attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied English and Spanish and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Beth was an associate justice of the student court and president of the university’s Orange Jackets, a selective group of 20 outstanding women who performed campus services, such as running campus voting and ushering large events. She was also a Mortar Board member and among nine women named outstanding students by The Cactus, her senior class yearbook.

World War II ended just as Beth began her sophomore year, and the campus soon swelled with returning veterans. One of those men was John (“Jack”) H. Chain, whom Beth first met in a rainstorm during the summer before her senior year. On their first date, Jack began wooing her with a gourmet picnic. They married on June 25, 1949, immediately after Beth’s college graduation.

Jack was a petroleum engineer and initially employed by an oil company called American Republics. The company posted Beth and Jack to Artesia, New Mexico, where their daughter, Priscilla, was born in December 1950. The company later transferred the family to Midland, Texas, where son John was born in February 1953. Because of Jack’s desire to work as an independent oil operator, the family moved to Scottsbluff later that year.

The couple made their permanent home here, where Beth was active in civic and religious life. She taught at various schools, including Western Nebraska Community College. She served on the Scottsbluff Public Library Board and was instrumental in arranging the design and construction of its current facility. Beth was also a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and an early and strong supporter of Community Christian School. Additionally, Beth was a founder and chairwoman of the Scottsbluff Christian Women’s Club. Beth was warm, loving, and loyal to her family. As just one example, she arranged every aspect of care for her learning-disabled brother for nearly 40 years. Beth was also curious, adventurous, and a life-long learner. She enjoyed travel, birdwatching, gardening, wild flowers, bridge, history, and classical music. She was a gracious and generous host with long-time friends from all walks of life. Her favorite activity was spending time with Jack, who also inspired her to ski, golf, canoe, and fish.

Beth was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 65 years; her daughter, Priscilla Chain Beck; her parents; and her siblings – Charles, Jim, and Ann. She is survived by her son, John Chain, and daughter-in-law, Cynthia (Skiles) Chain, of Overland Park, Kansas; her son-in-law, William Beck, of San Antonio, Texas; her four grandchildren – Amanda Beck and husband Stephen Cody of Somerville, Massachusetts; Rebecca McDonald and husband Jefferey McDonald of Overland Park, Kansas; Zachary Chain of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Alexandra Chain of Brooklyn, New York; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

There, near the Mexican border, Beth learned Spanish and enjoyed playing among the farm’s grapefruit, orange, tangerine, and kumquat trees. She often accompanied her father on his nightly walks through the orchard. She remembered his discovery of the world’s first ruby-red grapefruit, which he named “Ted’s Red” and worked for decades to cultivate for sale.Beth graduated from San Benito High School, where students voted her “Best All-Round Girl.” She then attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied English and Spanish and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Beth was an associate justice of the student court and president of the university’s Orange Jackets, a selective group of 20 outstanding women who performed campus services, such as running campus voting and ushering large events. She was also a Mortar Board member and among nine women named outstanding students by The Cactus, her senior class yearbook.World War II ended just as Beth began her sophomore year, and the campus soon swelled with returning veterans. One of those men was John (“Jack”) H. Chain, whom Beth first met in a rainstorm during the summer before her senior year. On their first date, Jack began wooing her with a gourmet picnic. They married on June 25, 1949, immediately after Beth’s college graduation.Jack was a petroleum engineer and initially employed by an oil company called American Republics. The company posted Beth and Jack to Artesia, New Mexico, where their daughter, Priscilla, was born in December 1950. The company later transferred the family to Midland, Texas, where son John was born in February 1953. Because of Jack’s desire to work as an independent oil operator, the family moved to Scottsbluff later that year.The couple made their permanent home here, where Beth was active in civic and religious life. She taught at various schools, including Western Nebraska Community College. She served on the Scottsbluff Public Library Board and was instrumental in arranging the design and construction of its current facility. Beth was also a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and an early and strong supporter of Community Christian School. Additionally, Beth was a founder and chairwoman of the Scottsbluff Christian Women’s Club. Beth Hudson Chain (1927 - 2022)

Lawrence “Larry” Henry Joseph Niehues was born June 24, 1953 in Axtel, Kansas. He was the first of seven children born to Aloysius and Clara Niehues. He passed away peacefully in his sleep August 19, 2022 in Chadron with his daughter and granddaughter by his side.

Larry grew up in Corning, Kansas and moved to and settled in Nebraska in the late 70’s. He met and married his late wife, Marty, in Gordon, Nebraska in 1980. He became step-father to Marty’s three children and welcomed his daughter Nikki in 1981 and son Mathew in 1984.

Larry was a loving and caring father and grandfather who was very proud of his children and adored his granddaughters. Larry had a great love for the outdoors which he passed on to his children. Larry was generous and kind and looked out for others and helped in any way that he could and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.&nbsp;

Larry is survived by his children: Nikki Niehues (partner: George Overton) of Lead, SD, Matt (Lacey) Niehues of Chadron. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Gary Dean Essells, age 77, passed away at his home in Hutchinson, Kansas, on 
August 17, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on May 26, 1945, the 
youngest child of Warren and Emma (Jaeschke) Essells.&nbsp; He grew up in 
Wausau, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin.&nbsp; Gary served 
in the United States army from 1968-70.

Gary was united in marriage to Connie Jo Ary in March 1972.&nbsp; He 
worked for KSKU radio and KTPS television.&nbsp; In 1976, the family moved to
 North Platte, Nebraska, where he worked as a communications specialist for 
the Union Pacific Railroad’s Baily Yards and as chief engineer for 
KELN/KOOQ radio.&nbsp; Both he and Connie volunteered countless hours to 
Nebraskaland Days, the official Nebraska state celebration.&nbsp; In 2000, 
they received the prestigious Dale Studley Award.&nbsp; They also were host 
parents for 24 years to more than 100 North Platte Community College 
basketball players.

In 2006, Gary and Connie retired and returned to Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He 
stayed active in many local nonprofit groups until his passing.&nbsp; These 
include Friends of the Hutchinson Public Library, Central Kansas 
Corvette Association, Reno County Amateur Radio Association, and Central
 Kansas Model Railroaders.&nbsp; For several years he also operated excursion
 trains for the Abilene &amp; Smoky Valley Railroad.

Gary is survived by his daughter Gina Long of Hutchinson, Kansas, son Tim 
Long of Clayton, Ohio; and grandsons Andrew Ysac of Hutchinson, Kansas and Noah 
Long of MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Connie, his parents, a brother Warren Essells and sister Majorie Colcord.

Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held on 
Wednesday August 24, 2022, at 10 am at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson, Kansas with 
Pastor Wayne DeWindt officiating. Gary will be escorted to his final 
resting place by the Central Kansas Corvette Association.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in his 
honor to the Friends of the Hutchinson Public Library through Elliott

Patsy Barnett passed into the arms of her creator early in the morning of August 15, 2022 after a fierce battle with COVID and pneumonia. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Heule, and is survived by her brother, Lonnie Finley, her daughter, Neaomi Finley, her seven grandchildren, her fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.&nbsp;

Patsy was an unstoppable force of nature who had faced insurmountable challenges for nearly her entire life, and still managed to come out on top of it all. She felt a deep connection to her Mother Earth and did her best to enrich the lives of those she loved. She will be dearly missed, and her fighting spirit will carry on through those who remember her.&nbsp;

Willis Delbert Orr was born on September 22, 1924, to Chris and Lydia Orr in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; He grew up on the family ranch north of Green Lake and east of Pine Creek that was homesteaded by the Spoor family, purchased by his grandfather, Jefferson Orr, and developed by Jefferson and his son Chris.&nbsp; The nearest town was Rushville, located roughly 34 miles north and west of the ranch.&nbsp; He attended grade school at the one room rural School District 133 and participated in all the normal activities of ranch life from working animals with horses to putting up hay with horse drawn equipment.&nbsp; He experienced the conversion from horse to machine.&nbsp;&nbsp; Willis attended high school in Rushville and developed a love of music playing tenor saxophone. He met the love of his life while in high school, Betty Jean Nehren, and they were married on July 4, 1944.&nbsp;

Willis had many interests from music, plant ID, astronomy, reading, and sports including bowling and golf.&nbsp;&nbsp; He served his community in many capacities including the District 133 school board, 4-H Club advisor and instructor, Church board in multiple positions at Pleasant Point Community Church, and he was elected to the ASCS County Committee for numerous terms.

After retirement in the early 1990’s and Betty’s passing in 1996, Willis lived on the ranch until approximately 2008 at which time he rotated among his kids homes.&nbsp; In approximately 2016, Dad moved into Pioneer manor in Hay Springs where he lived until his passing on August 7th, 2022, just 49 days short of his 98th birthday. What an amazingly varied and interesting life for “just another old rancher from the outback Sandhills of Nebraska”.

Services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022, 10:30 AM at Pleasant Point Community Church, south of Gordon, NE.

Willis Delbert Orr (1924 - 2022)

Delbert (Del) Frank Serbousek, a retired entrepreneur and long-time resident of Phoenix, AZ died on August 9th, 2022, at the age of 87 in Phoenix.

Del is survived by his sister Mardell Horn; his children Lamont Serbousek, Marla Serbousek and Melinda Torres; his stepdaughters Wanda Medina and Vickie Welsh; His grandchildren Hope Medina, Becky Medina, Racheal Medina, Phillip McNaughton, Jennifer Sanchez, Brandi Watkins, Whitney Torres, Keith Adams, Lamont Serbouesk JR, and Leilani Serbousek; His nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildern.&nbsp; He is predeceased by his Sister Darlene Perreten; his father Frank Serbousek; his mother Libby Serbousek; His wives Phyllis Serbousek and Winifred Serbousek.

Del was born in Hay Springs, NE on April 20th, 1935, to Frank and Libby Serbousek.&nbsp; He was the second of three children.&nbsp; He grew up on the Serbousek ranch in Beaver Valley and attended Hay Springs High School.&nbsp; After high school he served in the topographical corps of the US Army from 1952 until 1954.&nbsp; He also serviced in the US Air Force as both a radio technician and a radio technician instructor from 1954 until 1961.&nbsp; After leaving military service Del worked in several trades, including as an electronics technician and as an elevator technician in both Utah and Arizona before permanently settling in Phoenix and opening the first electronics calibration lab in the state of Arizona in 1964.&nbsp; He continued to grow and expand his business while starting several other entrepreneurial endeavors until he retired in 2010.&nbsp; On June 7th, 1962, he married Winifred Everett in Salt Lake City, UT.&nbsp; On January 25th, 1968, July 11th, 1969, July 12th, 1971, respectively, he welcomed his son and two daughters.&nbsp; He was widowed in November 1972.&nbsp; He then married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Kadlecek in 1976 and welcomed his two stepdaughters.&nbsp; He was widowed for a second time when Phyllis passed over in 2004.

Del had a strong entrepreneurial spirit as evidenced by his many successful business endeavors.&nbsp; He was incredibility kind, outgoing and loved as evidenced by the many friends he collected throughout the years.&nbsp; He was a loving and caring father and grandfather who was very proud of his children and adored his grandchildren.&nbsp; Del struggled with alcoholism during the early part of his life until finally obtaining full sobriety in 1982 after joining Alcoholics Anonymous.&nbsp; He was very proud of his 40 years of sobriety and remained active in Alcoholics Anonymous sponsoring and helping hundreds of people through their recovery journeys over three plus decades.&nbsp; Del also enjoyed doting over his great grandchildren and gambling at the local Phoenix casinos.

A funeral service is scheduled at 2:00 PM on August 27th&nbsp;at the Hay Springs United Methodist Church on Miller Street in Hay Springs, NE.&nbsp; Flowers, donations and condolences can be offered at&nbsp;11707 Elk Head Range Rd. Littleton, CO 80127.

 </figure>Delbert (Del) Frank Serbousek, a retired entrepreneur and long-time resident of Phoenix, AZ died on August 9th, 2022, at the age of 87 in Phoenix.Del is survived by his sister Mardell Horn; his children Lamont Serbousek, Marla Serbousek and Melinda Torres; his stepdaughters Wanda Medina and Vickie Welsh; His grandchildren Hope Medina, Becky Medina, Racheal Medina, Phillip McNaughton, Jennifer Sanchez, Brandi Watkins, Whitney Torres, Keith Adams, Lamont Serbouesk JR, and Leilani Serbousek; His nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildern.&nbsp; He is predeceased by his Sister Darlene Perreten; his father Frank Serbousek; his mother Libby Serbousek; His wives Phyllis Serbousek and Winifred Serbousek.Del was born in Hay Springs, NE on April 20th, 1935, to Frank and Libby Serbousek.&nbsp; He was the second of three children.&nbsp; He grew up on the Serbousek ranch in Beaver Valley and attended Hay Springs High School.&nbsp; After high school he served in the topographical corps of the US Army from 1952 until 1954.&nbsp; He also serviced in the US Air Force as both a radio technician and a radio technician instructor from 1954 until 1961.&nbsp; After leaving military service Del worked in several trades, including as an electronics technician and as an elevator technician in both Utah and Arizona before permanently settling in Phoenix and opening the first electronics calibration lab in the state of Arizona in 1964.&nbsp; He continued to grow and expand his business while starting several other entrepreneurial endeavors until he retired in 2010.&nbsp; On June 7th, 1962, he married Winifred Everett in Salt Lake City, UT.&nbsp; On January 25th, 1968, July 11th, 1969, July 12th, 1971, respectively, he welcomed his son and two daughters.&nbsp; He was widowed in November 1972.&nbsp; He then married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Kadlecek in 1976 and welcomed his two stepdaughters.&nbsp; He was widowed for a second time when Phyllis passed over in 2004.Del had a strong entrepreneurial spirit as evidenced by his many successful business endeavors.&nbsp; He was incredibility kind, outgoing and loved as evidenced by the many friends he collected throughout the years.&nbsp; He was a loving and caring father and grandfather who was very proud of his children and adored his grandchildren.&nbsp; Del struggled with alcoholism during the early part of his life until finally obtaining full sobriety in 1982 after joining Alcoholics Anonymous.&nbsp; He was very proud of his 40 years of sobriety and remained active in Alcoholics Anonymous sponsoring and helping hundreds of people through their recovery journeys over three plus decades.&nbsp; Del also enjoyed doting over his great grandchildren and gambling at the local Phoenix casinos.A funeral service is scheduled at 2:00 PM on August 27th&nbsp;at the Hay Springs United Methodist Church on Miller Street in Hay Springs, NE.&nbsp; Flowers, donations and condolences can be offered at&nbsp;11707 Elk Head Range Rd. Ryan Duaine Lohr, 47 passed away peacefully from this life at his home in Gering, NE surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday August 13th, 2022, after a courageously fought 8 month battle with colon cancer.

Ryan was born February 22, 1975 in Greeley CO to Rick and Peggy (Schaeffer) Lohr. He attended kindergarten in Kersey CO, attended grade school for a short time in LaSalle, CO and then went back to Kersey, where he finished out high school and graduated from Platte Valley High School.

On July 23, 2005, he married the love of his life, Andrea Sankey, of Bayard. Together they had two daughters, Allee Ryan and Alexee Nicole, joining their older brothers Ryan Dean and Rawlyn Del.

Ryan’s friend and family would describe him as bigger than life. His ability to capture a room was one of the things that made him so special. He never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Ryan had a great sense of humor and always kept us all laughing. Ryan loved his family deeply and fiercely. He was an excellent husband who loved Andrea more than life and he was the best dad who loved and supported his children immensely; he was their biggest fan.

Ryan lived his life to the fullest. Traveling and taking adventures at every opportunity. He loved trips to Mexico with friends and family and never missed a rally in Sturgis until this year. He and Andrea spend a great deal of time riding their bike, including some long miles to places like Las Vegas and Phoenix. Ryan loved the lake and spent countless hours on the boat making memories with family and friends.

Ryan was well liked and loved in the community. During his 20 years with the Scottsbluff Fire Department, he became a hero to many, including his fellow firefighters.

Ryan was also well known in the softball world. He coached or helped coach many of his daughters teams over the last many years. He was knowledgeable, fair, and all the girls looked up to him and trusted him to lead the. He loved watching his girls grow in their abilities and love of the sport.

The past couple of years Ryan worked tirelessly building his family’s dream house. Countless hours, and Ryan’s blood, sweat, and tears went into the shop house he built. It turned out to be a beautiful home and place of solace for his family as they navigate a new world without their Ryan in it.

In the days leading up to his death, Ryan received many beautiful tribute letters from friends, family, his fire family, community members, former players, and even from people who never knew Ryan personally, but knew of him and what an incredible man he was and how many lives he touched.

Ryan is at peace now, seated next to his savior, his body is whole again, and he has answered his final call. We will miss him terribly, but look forward to when we get to see him again for eternity.

Ryan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Russel and Delores Lohr and maternal grandfather, Dwain Schaeffer.

His wife, Andrea, survives him, his dad Rick his mother Peggy, his 4 children Ryan (Cassandra), Rawlyn, Allee and Alexee, grandson Ryker, maternal Grandmother Rose Schaeffer, nieces, and numbers cousins, aunts, and uncles.

His funeral service will be held Saturday, August 20, at 1:00 pm, at Western Nebraska Community College, with burial to follow at the Gering Cemetery. Carl Wilson passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at his home in Gering Nebraska on August 10, 2022.

Carl was born on October 28, 1954 in Los Alamos New Mexico, the youngest of 3 boys, to Donald and Rowena Wilson. Carl was an active member of boy scouts his entire childhood earning his God and Country Award in High School. He enjoyed riding his bike, playing sports in the yard with neighborhood kids, and tinkering with anything he could get his hands on. Destructing, fixing, and building was his lifelong hobby.

Carl had a love for music, playing the drums in the Los Alamos High School jazz and marching bands. Auto mechanics was his favorite class and he was very fond of his Oldsmobile F85. Carls father was a gunsmith and machinist, which helped influence Carl's interest in learning how things work and teaching him the skills to become a jack of all trades, but master of none.

Carl met the love of his life, Valerie Igwerson his junior year of high school. After graduating Los Alamos High School in 1973, he attended New Mexico State University, but shortly returned to Los Alamos. Carl and Valerie were married in Los Alamos on November 2nd, 1974 and Carl began his lifelong career as a laser technologist at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1975.

They welcomed their first daughter, Tennille Rene on May 13, 1977 and second daughter, Stefanie Tegan on September 1st 1982. Carl loved being a father, he devoted his entire life to his family, always putting his families needs first. Carl was an adventure seeker and never overlooked an opportunity to take Tennille on a motorcycle ride or Stefanie on a snowy mountain drive. He enjoyed coaching the girls softball teams, assisting with science projects, being a girl scout dad and loved sharing his passions of mechanics, tinkering, camping, fishing, shooting, and so much more with his girls. After both girls moved out, Carl and Valerie enjoyed traveling with friends and visiting family in Nebraska. Carl instilled a great zest for life in his family and was excited to share his knowledge and passions with his grandchildren, too.

Carl retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2018, after which he and Valerie relocated to Scottsbluff Nebraska to be closer to family and their grandchildren.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Rowena Wilson, older brother Jimmy Wilson, and in laws Darrell and Bonny Ingwerson.

Carl is survived by his wife of 47yrs, Valerie of Gering NE, daughter Tennille (Todd) Womack of Alcalde NM, daughter Stefanie (Bryan) and their children Kaycee and Kolby, whom he adored, of Laramie WY. As well as his brothers and sisters in law in Nebraska and many very dear friends in Los Alamos NM.

Services will be held on Monday, August 15th at 2pm, a Gering Memorial Chapel, 1755 11th St. Gering, NE 69341. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in October in Los Alamos, NM.

She married Benjamin Schaub on September 5, 1947 in Gering, Nebraska and they made their home south of Gering. She stayed home and took care of her family.

She was involved in the Women’s Missionary Council at First Assembly Church and taught Sunday School.

In her later years she enjoyed reading, coloring and putting jigsaw puzzles together. Joyce loved her family and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her daughter Sandy and her husband Paul Young of Salem, OR and their children Dari Shaffer (Stetson), Shawna Kellogg (Will) and Dustin (Shawna) Young; daughter Beverly Schaub of Gering; daughter Janice McElroy (Mark) of Clarksville, Tenn. and her son Adam Evans; great grandchildren Rizah Young, Rayilynn Young, Corbett Young and Josiah Kellogg and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is survived by son John and his wife Joyce of Minatare, daughter Jacque and her husband Rick Kaufman of Scottsbluff, daughter-in-law Colleen of Omaha; grandsons Jeff (Angela) Maser, John (Beth) Maser, James Maser, Alexander Kaufman, Nick (Amy) Maser, granddaughters Richelle (Shawn) Green, Jennifer Dargy, Leigh Anne (Kelly) Tofflemire, Stephanie (Zac) Samson and twenty-two great grandchildren.  Nancy Verneice Maser (1925 - 2022)

Charles Joseph Kuncl of Papillion, NE (formerly of Alliance, NE) passed away August 11, 2022 at the age of 93. Charles was born in Alliance, NE and raised his family there with his wife, with whom he was married for 67 years. He was employed at Alliance National Bank for over 30 years.

Charles, an army veteran who served during the Korean War, was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances (Edgerly) Kuncl, and sister, Fran (Kuncl) Wollen.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Oberg) Kuncl. He is also survived by his three children and their spouses, Laura Lawrence (Mike), Roy Kuncl (Diane), and Eric Kuncl (Amy), and grandchildren, Adam Kuncl (Liz), Kara Kuncl Buckley (Jordan), Kyle Kuncl (Maddison), Sydney Kuncl, and Evan Kuncl.

A private memorial service will be held for the family.

 </figure>Charles Joseph Kuncl of Papillion, NE (formerly of Alliance, NE) passed away August 11, 2022 at the age of 93. Charles was born in Alliance, NE and raised his family there with his wife, with whom he was married for 67 years. He was employed at Alliance National Bank for over 30 years.Charles, an army veteran who served during the Korean War, was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances (Edgerly) Kuncl, and sister, Fran (Kuncl) Wollen.He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Oberg) Kuncl. Charles Joseph Kuncl (1929 - 2022)

&nbsp; Michael Robert Sorensen was born September 26, 1967, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Bonnie Kay (Bloom) and Robert Orville Sorensen. Mike grew up in Wheatland, Wyoming, and graduated from Wheatland High School with the class of 1986. He continued his education at Chadron State College where he excelled in football and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education in 1993 and later a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Doane College in 2006. On July 31, 1993, Mike married Nancy Ruth Schnell in Las Vegas, NV, and to this union two children were born: Bethany and Isaac. As teachers, Mike and Nancy lived in several communities in Wyoming and Nebraska including Big Piney, Ansley, Alliance, Leigh, Imperial, Grand Island, Grant and most recently Wauneta. Mike began his career in education at Big Piney High School in Wyoming as a teacher and a coach. The family moved to Nebraska in 1997 where Mike continued teaching and coaching at Alliance High School along with Ansley High School and Leigh Community High School. In 2006, Mike joined the staff at Chase County Schools in Imperial as the 7-12 Principal and coach where he was employed for 9 years. Mike would later become the Athletic Director at Grand Island Northwest Schools before moving back to the Grant/Imperial area to teach at Chase County again for 2 more years. Recently, Mike had started his first year at Wauneta-Palisade High School as the 7-12 Principal, Athletic Director, Transportation Director, and Head Boys’ Basketball Coach. Mike was a member of the Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals and NCSA – Nebraska Council of School Administrators. Mike enjoyed lifting weights, fishing, reading, playing video games, watching sporting events, laughing and taking a nap. He especially loved spending time with his family. Mike passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial, NE. He was 54 years of age. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Robert Orville and Bonnie Kay Sorensen. Survivors Include: Wife: Nancy of Wauneta, NE. Daughter: Bethany Malmkar and husband Alex of Grant, NE. Son: Isaac Sorensen of Lincoln, NE. Grandchildren: Brooke, Hannah and Jett Malmkar. Sister: Michelle George and husband Tom of Henderson, NV. Michael Sorensen (1967-2022)

Paul D. Zysset, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Hemingford Community Care Center.

Paul was born at home in rural Frontier County, Nebraska on October 17, 1937 to Carl C. and Aurie V. (Buker) Zysset.&nbsp; He was the fourth of eight children.&nbsp; He started grade school in a rural school south of Eustis and completed grade school at Hilltop District across from the home place.&nbsp; Paul attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture, graduating in 1955.

He married Enid E. Barnes on April 14, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Curtis, Nebraska.&nbsp; Three children were born to this union.

Paul farmed in Frontier County for seven years before moving to the Sandhills to ranch north of Kilgore in 1964.&nbsp; In 1976 he sold the ranch and moved to Cody where he drove a gas truck and worked on various ranches.&nbsp; In 1978 he purchased the bar in Cody, calling it “Paul’s Place”, and operated it for 13 years before selling it in 1991.

Paul also worked for the Village of Cody for 21 years in various capacities.&nbsp; He was instrumental in getting the Cody Fire Department started and served as chief of the department for 31 years.&nbsp; In 2019, due to failing health and to be near family, he moved to Alliance.

He is survived by his wife, Enid Zysset of Alliance, NE; his children, Monte (Sherri) Zysset of Roca, NE, Angy (Wes) Fancher of Alliance, NE, and Shanda (Randy) Volmer of Loveland, CO.&nbsp; He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Evelyn Wolf of Blacksburg, VA, Bonnie Herrick of North Platte, NE, and Lorene Raburn of Cambridge, NE.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Mervin and Kenny, and his sisters, Janice and Ruth.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Cody Village Park.&nbsp; Rev. Dr. Gideon Achi will officiate.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Cody Village Park and sent in care of the family at,&nbsp;2714 Cheyenne Lane, Alliance, Nebraska, 69301.
