Gabriel (Gabe) James Blanford, 17, of Chadron, Ne, was freed of his earthly burdens after a life long battle with Trichothiodystrophy (TTD). Gabe was born August 2, 2003 in Denver, Co to Angie Flesner and Jason Blanford, and passed in the comfort of his home surrounded by family in the early morning of October 23, 2020.&nbsp;

Although TTD stripped him of many things, it did not strip his spirit for life. He enjoyed meeting new people and he was able to capture the heart of anyone who came in contact with him. He loved music, especially Dirty Paws by Of Monsters And Men, giving out fist bumps and hugs. Some of his favorite places to be were in the mountains of Wyoming, any river or body of water he could throw rocks into, and his backyard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and golf. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family.&nbsp;

In 2010, he was granted a wish by the Make A Wish Foundation of Nebraska to swim with the Dolphins at Discovery Cove in Florida. After he was diagnosed with TTD, he got to venture across the United States twice to Bethesda, MD where he and his family took part in the study of his 1 in a million disorder at the National Institutes of Health. The second trip to Maryland was extended, in thanks to so many supporters and donors, so he could travel to NYC and see the Statue of Liberty. Over the years, Gabe and his family made countless trips to Minneapolis, MN for advice, surgeries, and mobile equipment from the Shriners Hospital for Children. Although the majority of his travels were based around medical appointments, his family always found something new and fun to do wherever they were.&nbsp;

He was a member of the Chadron State College men’s basketball team, he had been an honorary captain for the CSC football team, and he was highly involved in bringing smiles to the students and staff within the Chadron Public Schools. Gabe is known far and wide throughout the community, and many people knew his smiling face from the years he spent doing physical and occupational therapies at the Chadron Hospital.&nbsp;

Gabe was rejoined with his baby brother, Owen Robbins, grandfather Terry Flesner, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, and countless TTD brothers and sisters. Gabriel (Gabe) James Blanford (2003 - 2020)

Gene J. Schoeneman, 82, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance.

He was born November 13, 1937 in Bayard, Nebraska to Henry and Eva (Asmus) Schoeneman.

He was united in marriage to Marilyn M. Schnell on October 4, 1959 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alliance.

Gene loved the land and farmed for 41 years until his semi-retirement in 2007.&nbsp; He and Marilyn enjoyed traveling to other states, spending time with his kids and grandkids and helping out on the farm when needed.&nbsp; Gene also enjoyed watching football and listening to gospel music.

Gene served on the Board of Directors for Westco for 2 terms, served on the Dist. 42 School Board and was a member of the Evangelical Free Church.&nbsp; In 2007 Gene and his family were recipients of the Alliance Chamber of Commerce Farmer/Rancher Family of the Year and he also achieved top 10 grower recognition awards from Western Sugar.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his children, Keith (Teresa) Schoeneman and Scott (Cindy) Schoeneman of Alliance and Janet (Craig) Workman of Lincoln, his grandchildren, Sarah Bannan and Trent (Gina) Bannan, Rachel Schoeneman, Anna Schoeneman, Seth Schoeneman, Renata Schoeneman, Evan Schoeneman, Miranda Workman, Makenzie Workman and Grant Workman, and his great-grandchildren, Ross Boyd, Reed Boyd and Mia Bannan.&nbsp; He is also survived by his brother, John (Pam) Schoeneman of Wisconsin and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Lynn Bannan and his siblings Hank (Viola) Schoeneman, Irene (Albert) Pfenning, Christina (Dave) Martin, Sarah (Leslie) Gabel, Martha (Raymond) Gabel and Mary (Ed) Vogel.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 28 at 10:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Art Smith officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-7 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home with family present from 5-7 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp; The family requests attendees wear masks inside the church.

Memorials may be given to the Highland Park Care Center Alzheimer’s Unit or the Evangelical Free Church.&nbsp;&nbsp; Gene’s family would also like to extend a tremendous thank you to the Highland Park Alzheimer’s Care Unit for their exceptional care and loving support.

&nbsp; Richard “Dick” L Hoffman, Sr, 80 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska passed away at his home October 13, 2020. A Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the American Legion in Gering from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Military honors provided by American Legion Post #36. Dick was born on July 19, 1940 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Rueben and Dorothea (Watters) Hoffman. Moving to Lincoln to live with family, while his father was overseas during the Pacific Theater. When his father returned after the war they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The family later returned to western Nebraska. While attending Scottsbluff High School, he was active in sports and other school activities. After graduating from high school, he attended a 2 year Junior College in Scottsbluff. There was an old WWII submarine Veteran living in town and he spoke with him about Submarines, he got his curiosity about them and a couple of days later, and he entered the United States Navy October of 1963. He chose the Nuclear Submarine Service. He mainly operated in the South China Sea, Tonkin Gulf, and Sea of Japan and all along the shores of the Soviet Union. After 7 years underwater he was honorably discharge January of 1970 with the rank of E-6 (IC-I (SS). He returned home to work cutting meat. He later purchased his father’s business, Union Bar in Gering, just a small neighborhood type bar. He married Jackie Wilcox in 1971 and a son Richard Jr. was born. He enjoyed sponsoring golf teams and bowling teams. He was past President of local Golf Association. He loved to walleye fish. Survivors include his granddaughter Taylor Hoffman, sister-in-law Ruth Hoffman, extended family and host of friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, ex-wife Jackie, son Rich and brother Robert Hoffman.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; Shirley Mae (Gorr) Loose went to her eternal home in Heaven on October 20, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 10:00 am at Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Andrew Griess officiating. Her visitation will be held on Monday, October 26, 2020 from 3-6 pm at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and grand puppy “Ozzie”. Shirley Mae (Gorr) Loose (1933 - 2020)

Paul D. Empson of Chadron, who served as a District Court judge in northwest Nebraska for nearly 27 years, died at his home early Sunday morning, October 18, 2020, with his wife and daughter nearby.&nbsp; He was 79. A memorial service will be Saturday, October 24, 2020&nbsp;at 2 p.m. at the Chadron Berean Church.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Chamberlain Chapel.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Empson was born September 21, 1941 at Concordia, Kansas, to Loran Ralph and Viola May (Boger) Empson.&nbsp; He was an all-around athlete in high school, graduating in 1959. He earned a degree in business from the University of Kansas in 1963.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; While they were attending KU, Empson married Martha Ramsey of Wyandotte County, Kansas, on December 9, 1962 at the Danforth Chapel on campus. They were blessed with two children, Mark, who lives in Connecticut, and Laura of Chadron.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A year after receiving his bachelor’s degree, Empson enrolled at the University of Kansas Law School and graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1967.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As Empson was nearing graduation, Laurice Margheim, the Box Butte County attorney, sent a letter to the law school seeking applicants to become the deputy county attorney and a law partner.&nbsp; Empson was chosen to fill the positon.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After Gov. Charles Thone appointed Empson to become a 16th Judicial District judge beginning October 1, 1980, the family moved to Chadron.&nbsp; He filled that position until retiring June 30, 2007.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Shortly after arriving in Chadron, through the encouragement of Frank Van Campen, pastor of the Berean Church, Empson accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, changing his life forever for the better.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Always an avid reader, Empson studied the Bible thoroughly. He was a natural teacher, and, within a few years, he was leading Bible studies and teaching Sunday school classes at his church, which he did for a couple of decades.&nbsp; In addition, he was chairman of the church board many years.&nbsp; He and his wife joined Gideons International in 2011 and became staunch supporters of its efforts.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Empson had a strong personality and did everything with zeal and excellence. He was skilled in discernment and loved to help solve problems, offering guidance and assistance to those in need or with issues, including some who had come before him in court. He loved children, and being “Papa Paul” to friends’ children.

Empson of Chadron, who served as a District Court judge in northwest Nebraska for nearly 27 years, died at his home early Sunday morning, October 18, 2020, with his wife and daughter nearby.&nbsp; He was 79. A memorial service will be Saturday, October 24, 2020&nbsp;at 2 p.m. at the Chadron Berean Church.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Chamberlain Chapel.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Empson was born September 21, 1941 at Concordia, Kansas, to Loran Ralph and Viola May (Boger) Empson.&nbsp; He was an all-around athlete in high school, graduating in 1959. He earned a degree in business from the University of Kansas in 1963.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; While they were attending KU, Empson married Martha Ramsey of Wyandotte County, Kansas, on December 9, 1962 at the Danforth Chapel on campus. They were blessed with two children, Mark, who lives in Connecticut, and Laura of Chadron.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A year after receiving his bachelor’s degree, Empson enrolled at the University of Kansas Law School and graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1967.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As Empson was nearing graduation, Laurice Margheim, the Box Butte County attorney, sent a letter to the law school seeking applicants to become the deputy county attorney and a law partner.&nbsp; Empson was chosen to fill the positon.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After Gov. Charles Thone appointed Empson to become a 16th Judicial District judge beginning October 1, 1980, the family moved to Chadron.&nbsp; He filled that position until retiring June 30, 2007.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Shortly after arriving in Chadron, through the encouragement of Frank Van Campen, pastor of the Berean Church, Empson accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, changing his life forever for the better.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Always an avid reader, Empson studied the Bible thoroughly. He was a natural teacher, and, within a few years, he was leading Bible studies and teaching Sunday school classes at his church, which he did for a couple of decades.&nbsp; In addition, he was chairman of the church board many years.&nbsp; He and his wife joined Gideons International in 2011 and became staunch supporters of its efforts.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Empson had a strong personality and did everything with zeal and excellence. He was skilled in discernment and loved to help solve problems, offering guidance and assistance to those in need or with issues, including some who had come before him in court. James L. Fistler ,71, passed away Monday, October 12, 2020 at the home of his daughter in Alliance from an extended illness.

He was born December 28, 1948 in Keithsburg, Illinois to Kenneth and Helen (High) Fistler.

On February 12, 1979 he was united in marriage to Judie K. Von Tour.

He is survived by his wife, Judie, his children, Mark (Shonda) Sheets of Alliance, Jennifer (James) Monroe of Alliance and Rick (Michele) Hall of Minneapolis, MN, his grandchildren, Kayla Sheets, Madison Monroe, Mya Monroe, Mason Monroe and Zander Hall.&nbsp; He is also survived by his brother, Butch (Gerene) Fistler of Mason City, IA, his sister, Shirley Fistler of Manly, IA and his twin brother, John (Carole) of Hemingford and numerous nieces and nephews.

James Fistler (1948 - 2020)

John Howard Watson passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 10, 2020, surrounded by his wife and family. Howard was born on August 17, 1924, in Alliance, Nebraska. He was able to celebrate his 96th birthday in an outdoor celebration with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchild.

Howard is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann (Borcherding) Watson. They were married on October 17th, 1952 in Lincoln, Nebraska.&nbsp; They were married for nearly sixty-eight years.&nbsp; They had four children, Mark Howard Watson (Denise), Bruce Edward Watson (Anne), the late Paul Daniel Watson (Lori), and Janet Marie Smith (Dr. Samuel Smith).&nbsp; They were blessed with twelve grandchildren, Jacob Daniel Watson (Jene),&nbsp; Hannah Jean Blumenthal (Ben), John Raymond Watson, Jess Edward Watson, Sara Mary Cummings (Cory), Amy Leigh Kulas (Tyler), Nathaniel Howard Smith (Jenny), Rebecca Mary Smith, Eric Benjamin Smith, Tyler Edward Smith (Alanna), Ryan Daniel Smith, and Julia Ann Smith.&nbsp; Howard and Shirley were also blessed with four great grandchildren, Jasper, Brock, and Evie Smith and Levi Howard Blumenthal.&nbsp;

Howard was preceded in death by his son, Paul, his parents, John Daniel and Mary Patterson Watson, and his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Dale Barry.

Howard was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Force as a radio operator and tail gunner.&nbsp; The crew’s B-24 plane, Gidi Gidi Boom Boom, flew thirty nine missions out of Italy before being shot down over Romania.&nbsp; Howard and the crew of the Gidi Gidi Boom Boom were captured and held prisoner of war for three months in Bulgaria before being freed by the Russian Army.&nbsp; Howard was presented with the Purple Heart and a Quilt of Valor for his service to his country.

After returning home Howard began a lifelong career of farming with his father, John Daniel.&nbsp; The family farm was homesteaded in 1891 and continues to be operated by sons Mark and Bruce and grandson John.

Howard was a very active member of the community.&nbsp; He served on the Box Butte County Wheat Board, was a member and Deacon of the Presbyterian Church, served on the Box Butte County ASCS committee, served for many years as a Military Honor Guard, and was a member of the Elks, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles, and Lions Clubs.

Howard was a lifelong sports fan of the Alliance Bulldogs and Nebraska Cornhuskers.&nbsp; He met Shirley on a blind date at a Husker football game.&nbsp; He convinced Shirley to drive from Salt Lake City, Utah to Alliance on the final day of their honeymoon to get back home in time for a Bulldog football game.&nbsp; Through the years, Howard and Shirley enjoyed their time together playing bridge with friends, golfing, square dancing, and traveling in their retirement years.

Howard enjoyed fishing and hunting.&nbsp; He was an avid golfer.&nbsp; Many fond family memories involved yearly vacations to Chadron State Park and Lake McConaughy. Most of all, Howard loved spending time with his beloved wife Shirley, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.&nbsp; They will miss his kind and gentle nature and his keen sense of humor.&nbsp;

Howard showed us all how to live a life of humility, dignity, and service.&nbsp; His leadership and values were at the core of what author Tom Brokaw declared as “The Greatest Generation”.&nbsp; Howard showed us all the dedication and hard work required to raise a family, improve a community, and strengthen a nation.&nbsp; He was a role model to all who knew him and we were very blessed to have him in our lives.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14th, at Bates-Gould Funeral Home from 1 to 7 p.m.&nbsp;

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 15th at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; The family requests that attendees wear masks inside the church and practice social distancing.&nbsp; A private family burial will follow at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.

The family requests charitable donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial or Regional West Hospice.&nbsp;

Most of all, Howard loved spending time with his beloved wife Shirley, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.&nbsp; They will miss his kind and gentle nature and his keen sense of humor.&nbsp;Howard showed us all how to live a life of humility, dignity, and service.&nbsp; His leadership and values were at the core of what author Tom Brokaw declared as “The Greatest Generation”.&nbsp; Howard showed us all the dedication and hard work required to raise a family, improve a community, and strengthen a nation.&nbsp; He was a role model to all who knew him and we were very blessed to have him in our lives.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14th, at Bates-Gould Funeral Home from 1 to 7 p.m.&nbsp;The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 15th at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; The family requests that attendees wear masks inside the church and practice social distancing.&nbsp; A private family burial will follow at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.The family requests charitable donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial or Regional West Hospice.&nbsp;

John Howard Watson (1924 - 2020)

Alrene Pearl Schmitt, 82, of Mercedes, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 7, 2020. She was born to parents Art and Pearl Wilder on July 31, 1938, in Edgemont, South Dakota.

Alrene met Marshall Rogers in 1954. They were married on February 6, 1955, in Kimball, Nebraska. Together they raised three children: Roy, Rod, and Randy. She spent most of her life in Nebraska, later moved to California, and finally, Texas, where she retired in 2007. Marshall proceeded her in death on January 31, 2003.

She married her best friend Bob Schmitt, November 11, 2008. Together they traveled all over the United States and visited several countries. They were proud members of the Cowboy Church of the Valley and enjoyed giving their time to Boarder Mission. She always believed in giving a hand up to those who needed one. She had a great circle of friends who met for coffee, played cards, and fellowship. One of her greatest joys was playing cards and board games with her family, where she always played to win.

She is survived by her husband Bob, sons Roy (Gwen), Rod (Audrey), Randy (Stephanie), stepsons Terry (Tina), Bobby (Karen), Brian (Kris) 21 grandchildren and their spouses, and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marshall, two sisters Joan and Jane and stepson Mike.

The family has entrusted McCaleb Funeral Home with the arrangements. A small graveside service will be held in Potter, Nebraska at a later time.

(Roy) Olson.&nbsp; Valarie preceded her in death.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dean, her sisters, Lois Wiggs, Inez Young and Claudia Martin

In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, she is survived by her 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and her brother, Donald Martin of Wellington, NV and her sister, Harriett Strutton of Scottsbluff, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.

A faithful member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance she was nourished in her faith through God’s Holy Word and Sacraments.&nbsp; She lived her faith through worship, Bible study, participation in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society at her church. Fox Maxwell went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 6, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held at Chuck Wagon Church on October 16, 2020 at 2pm, with Pastor Al Wilson officiating. Memorial donations can be made to Chuck Wagon Church.

He was born on February 23, 1951. His parents were Glenn and Phyllis Maxwell. He attended Scottsbluff schools until he joined the Navy in 1968. He was a Vietnam Veteran, Class of 69. Upon returning, he attended Brown Institute for radio broadcasting and was a licensed disc jockey. He worked for the sugar factory and many area farmers during harvest.

On July 4, 2008, he married Carol Crom “Soupy” in Alaska, where his friends Al and Sheila Warfield lived and gave them great memories.

He was an avid motorcycle rider. He rode over 50 years. He had a lot of biker friends and loved to ride with them. He enjoyed doing charitable events for children, but his ill health prevented him from attending some of the events. He was an avid fisher and enjoyed spending time with friends. He loved working in his shop and having BS sessions with his brothers.

Fox was a member of Chuck Wagon Church. He loved taking his great granddaughter, Jacelyn to Sunday school and listening to Pastor Al Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Crom “Soupy” of Scottsbluff and her son, Neil Blanton; son, Gerald (TAZ) and Becky Maxwell of Bellevue, Nebraska; daughter, Genya and Ryan Dietrich of Scottsbluff; step children, Uriah Furrow of Boulder, Colorado, Amanda Mogan of Severance, Colorado; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, biker brothers, and friends.

Sharon “Susie” Rose Jancik was born to Helga Ingeborg (Ikey) Jensen and Clarence Robert Stiehl on March 14, 1937, in Hay Springs, Nebraska. Sharon graduated high school in 1955. Sharon was a BPO Doe and a member of the Eastern Star. She attended UNL for one semester and taught one year at a country school in Beaver Valley.

She married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Albert “Pete” Jancik, in 1957 and moved out to the family ranch north of Hay Springs. She loved helping Pine Tree (Pete) at their sawmill. Pete and Sharon had four children together: Traci (married to Bart Spracklen) Bates, Mike (married to Tricia Martin) Jancik, Clay (married to Kim Slavik) Jancik, and Brandi (married to Brock) Musgrave.

Sharon loved having family around as much as possible. She hosted many large get-togethers for brandings, Sunday meals, or any other occasions that would arise. She was a 4-H leader and teacher for many years being sure to include her kids and grandkids in the program.

Well-known by all, Sharon was very sociable, had tons of friends and loved going to social events. It was common to see her driving around town with her sidekick and best friend, Tudy Lintt. They were inseparable: they co-owned a cleaning and painting business and bowled together on a league. In her later years she could still be seen cruising the town or going to Prairie Winds with her good friends Wanda Maloney and Charlene Luneburg. She loved going to Sackers, scratching lottery tickets and having a pop.

Sharon was very crafty. She excelled at needlework, gardening, cooking, canning and sewing clothing for her kids and grandkids. Most evenings you would find her sitting at her computer reading emails and playing computer games. She was a loving grandmother/great grandmother who enjoyed sharing these gifts with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her older brother Dr. Gary Stiehl (married to Jane Burrows) and her sister-in-law Laura Scherbarth. Grandkids include Nathan Bates (married to Johanne Letendre), Megan Gilmore, Amanda Fanning (married to Carl Fanning), Andrea Lorraine (married to Joe Lorraine), Brandon Jancik (married to Melissa Alworth), James Taylor, Boone Jancik (married to Shalisa Whitman), Cydney Jancik, Wesley Jancik (married to Ashley Parks), Tim Jancik (married to Stephany Esparza), Andy Jancik, Chase Musgrave.

Great grandkids include Jonas, Lauren, and Ryan (children of Nathan Bates); Jailyn and Ember (children of Brandon Jancik); Aubrey, Skyler and Dakota (children of Boone Jancik); Aubrey, Andrew and Caleb (children of Amanda Fanning); EmMarie (children of Andrea Lorraine).

William David Monroe III, 34, passed away October 5, 2020 at University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, CO.

He was born August 30, 1986 in Omaha, Nebraska.

He is survived by his father, William G. Monroe, Sr., his mother, Melinda Miller of Omaha, his children, Tiana Red Bear-Monroe, Nassim Monroe, William Monroe IV and Liberty Monroe all of Alliance.&nbsp; He is also survived by his sister, Jennifer (Keith) Eversull of Alliance, his brothers, Jason (Kara) Monroe of Hawaii and James (Jennifer) Monroe of Alliance, and his significant other, Regina Red Bear of Alliance.&nbsp;

He worked with his father in Monroe Flooring and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his Renee Conica Monroe.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Indian Mission Church of God.&nbsp; Reverend Don Mink and Sister Linda Abold will officiate.&nbsp; Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

William David Monroe III (1986 - 2020)

Hugh Patrick Sughroue was born on January 25,&nbsp;1951 at St. Catherine's Hospital in McCook, NE&nbsp;to Kenneth James and Clara Ruth (Dutcher) Sughroue. He passed away on September 29, 2020 at his home in Hay Springs, NE. He was 69 years old.

Pat grew up in Holdrege, NE and graduated from Holdrege High School in 1969. He made many lifelong friends with whom he rode bikes, hunted and fished, and played baseball. His Grandma Esther Sughroue instilled in him a love of gardening that continued throughout his life. He took excellent care of his 4-H animals and participated in FFA.

Always an outdoorsman, Pat pursued jobs that let him be out in the elements. He cut timber in Wyoming for several years in the 1970s. He worked for his dad's company, Industrial Pipe Lines, pre-watering interstate highway construction areas in Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Arizona, making sure that water flowed 24 hours a day 7 days a week at each job site. He worked on the family ranch for several years before returning to the University of Nebraska to complete his bachelor's degree in horticulture in 1988.

His degree emphasis in turfgrass management led to a 25-year career on golf courses in Nebraska, Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming. He especially loved the construction aspects of the golf course superintendent's job, and derived great satisfaction from rehabbing courses that had fallen onto hard times. He was a pro at installing and fixing irrigation systems, building and rehabbing bunkers, growing new grass, and operating all the equipment required to keep his courses beautiful havens of peace and green for the golfers who played there - including Pat himself. He loved mentoring the young people who worked on courses with him and derived much satisfaction when they went on to careers in course management.

Pat married Tomi Schneider Eirich in 1989, gaining his beloved daughter Sarah Elizabeth and welcoming daughter Erin Rebecka in 1992. Pat's girls accompanied him on several job moves before they settled in southwest Kansas to be closer to family in Nebraska. The Sughroues took family trips around the country, many involving camping and fishing and building great memories. One of Pat's greatest joys was helping Sarah and Erin with their 4-H animals.

Pat married Sally Mann Jourdan on February 18, 2011. After Sally retired in 2012, she and Pat spent many happy months each year living in their little old 5th wheel. They spent the summers of 2012 and&nbsp;2013 in Boulder, WY&nbsp;while Pat was superintendent at Rendezvous Meadows Golf Course in Pinedale. Winters found them at Ancient Oaks RV Park in Rockport, TX where they enjoyed activities with the many friends who returned each year from across the US and Canada. Pat loved fishing from the pier at Goose Island State Park and the Port Aransas Jetty most, but also enjoyed some deep-sea fishing outings and some attempts at surf-fishing. He didn't mind cleaning fish and was always happy to share what he caught with others. He always said that being the guide was almost more fun than being the fisherman - he loved to share his knowledge and love of fishing and hunting with others and was always ready with the net to help another land a fish.

The arrival of spring meant putting in a garden at home. Pat spent happy hours every day tending his plants. He taught Sally to can produce and he shared hundreds of pounds of vegetables every year with friends and with Sharing &amp; Caring Neighbors to be enjoyed by clients.

Pat was never without a good Labrador or two. He loved by turn Jake, Jet, Jenny, Jack, Ginger and Jillie, and recently welcomed puppy Azra Rose. His dogs went with him to fishing spots and hunting camps throughout Pat's life. Watching his dogs run through plum thickets to flush pheasants and then retrieve them brought him great joy.

Pat was a lifelong Husker fan and a huge baseball fan. He and Sally enjoyed trips to Denver to take in a couple or three Colorado Rockies games each summer. Most years they made a trip to Thermopolis, WY or Hot Sulphur Springs, CO to soak in the hot water, which was one of Pat's favorite things to do. He was an avid reader and always had a stack of library books at the ready. He looked forward to his annual deer hunting trips at KJ River Ranch, his mom's house - a tradition that he and longtime friend Al Hohlfeld kept up for decades. Pat kept the freezer full of venison and fish to enjoy throughout the year.

Pat is survived by his wife, Sally, of Hay Springs; daughter Sarah of Spearville, KS; daughter Erin and her fiance Derick Hinch and granddaughter Quinn Laurel of Candor, NY; mother Ruth Sughroue of Indianola, NE; brother Mike and wife Gail Sughroue of Kearney, NE; brother Tim and wife Nance Sughroue of McCook, NE; sister Becky Nelson of Loomis, NE; sister Angie and husband Pat Ridings of Marietta, GA; and brother Dennis Sughroue of Indianola; nieces and nephews to whom he was sometimes "Uncle Grumpy"; great-nieces and nephews to whom he was "Fishin' Pat"; and aunts, uncles and cousins with whom he passed many happy days.

Pat was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth, grandparents Clarence and Esther Sughroue and Austin and Minnie Dutcher, and niece Courtney Massoudi.

A celebration of Pat's life well-lived will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Indianola Community Hall.

 </figure>Hugh Patrick Sughroue was born on January 25,&nbsp;1951 at St. Catherine's Hospital in McCook, NE&nbsp;to Kenneth James and Clara Ruth (Dutcher) Sughroue. He passed away on September 29, 2020 at his home in Hay Springs, NE. He was 69 years old.Pat grew up in Holdrege, NE and graduated from Holdrege High School in 1969. He made many lifelong friends with whom he rode bikes, hunted and fished, and played baseball. His Grandma Esther Sughroue instilled in him a love of gardening that continued throughout his life. He took excellent care of his 4-H animals and participated in FFA.Always an outdoorsman, Pat pursued jobs that let him be out in the elements. He cut timber in Wyoming for several years in the 1970s. He worked for his dad's company, Industrial Pipe Lines, pre-watering interstate highway construction areas in Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Arizona, making sure that water flowed 24 hours a day 7 days a week at each job site. He worked on the family ranch for several years before returning to the University of Nebraska to complete his bachelor's degree in horticulture in 1988.His degree emphasis in turfgrass management led to a 25-year career on golf courses in Nebraska, Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming. He especially loved the construction aspects of the golf course superintendent's job, and derived great satisfaction from rehabbing courses that had fallen onto hard times. He was a pro at installing and fixing irrigation systems, building and rehabbing bunkers, growing new grass, and operating all the equipment required to keep his courses beautiful havens of peace and green for the golfers who played there - including Pat himself. He loved mentoring the young people who worked on courses with him and derived much satisfaction when they went on to careers in course management.Pat married Tomi Schneider Eirich in 1989, gaining his beloved daughter Sarah Elizabeth and welcoming daughter Erin Rebecka in 1992. Pat's girls accompanied him on several job moves before they settled in southwest Kansas to be closer to family in Nebraska. The Sughroues took family trips around the country, many involving camping and fishing and building great memories. One of Pat's greatest joys was helping Sarah and Erin with their 4-H animals.Pat married Sally Mann Jourdan on February 18, 2011. After Sally retired in 2012, she and Pat spent many happy months each year living in their little old 5th wheel. They spent the summers of 2012 and&nbsp;2013 in Boulder, WY&nbsp;while Pat was superintendent at Rendezvous Meadows Golf Course in Pinedale. Winters found them at Ancient Oaks RV Park in Rockport, TX where they enjoyed activities with the many friends who returned each year from across the US and Canada. Pat loved fishing from the pier at Goose Island State Park and the Port Aransas Jetty most, but also enjoyed some deep-sea fishing outings and some attempts at surf-fishing. He didn't mind cleaning fish and was always happy to share what he caught with others. He always said that being the guide was almost more fun than being the fisherman - he loved to share his knowledge and love of fishing and hunting with others and was always ready with the net to help another land a fish.The arrival of spring meant putting in a garden at home. Pat spent happy hours every day tending his plants. He taught Sally to can produce and he shared hundreds of pounds of vegetables every year with friends and with Sharing &amp; Caring Neighbors to be enjoyed by clients.Pat was never without a good Labrador or two. He loved by turn Jake, Jet, Jenny, Jack, Ginger and Jillie, and recently welcomed puppy Azra Rose. His dogs went with him to fishing spots and hunting camps throughout Pat's life. Memorial service for Jason Patrick Cisneros will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chadron, Nebraska. Jason passed away on September 18, 2020 at his home in Chadron, Nebraska.

Jason was born on January 23, 1974 in Chadron Nebraska. He graduated from Chadron High School and received an Associates Degree in Architectural Engineering in Omaha-Lincoln, Nebraska. His career allowed him to travel in and out of the United States.

Jason is survived by his four sisters: AnJanette Victoria, Lisa Kathleen, Alisha Marie, and Karissa Antoinette; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, maternal grandmother Betty Fletcher, and his mother Wanda M. Cisneros.

Jason is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents John and Mary Cisneros, his maternal grandfather Erwin “Bud” E. Fletcher, niece Brianna Faith Fisher, and his brother Brian Philip Cisneros.

Jason Patrick Cisneros (1974 - 2020)

Clyde Merle Hayward, 94, of Hyannis Nebraska departed this life on September 30, 2020 in Alliance Nebraska.

Merle was born in Hyannis on June 18th, 1926 to Clyde Chester Ole and Myrtle Ester Matilda (Thorson) Hayward. Merle attended school in Hyannis through his Junior year and attended his Senior year and graduated high school from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, Nebraska in 1944.&nbsp; Merle returned home to work the family ranch. He met and married Lucille Ruth (Burton) in 1947 and raised three children: Susan, Bob and Carol. They divorced and he later met and married Della Joan (Jansen/Wakely) in 1968 raising her three children: Lori, Chuck and Stephanie.&nbsp; Together they added a daughter, Holly to the blended family.

In addition to operating a successful cattle ranch and the Hayward TV electronics business Merle lived a life of service and leadership.&nbsp; He was recognized for his various leadership positions in the Nebraska Episcopal Diocese. Merle served many terms on the Boards of Directors for Nebraska School Districts #1, #11 and the Education Service Unit (ESU) District #13.&nbsp; Merle served as Director of the Nebraska Stockgrowers Association/Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association and the Cattlemen’s Research and Education.&nbsp; Merle was a charter member and President of the Grant County Historical Society, and an active member of the Sandhills Chamber of Commerce.

Merle had a great love of the Sandhills and Hyannis community.&nbsp; He provided the audio equipment for local rodeos and parades and maintained the airport lighting throughout the years. He and wife Della were instrumental in building and maintaining the community pool. Merle was regarded as the living archive of Sandhills history. He had a generous heart providing care for his parents, extended family and others in need. Merle was known as a master storyteller with an unending sense of humor.

Merle is survived by his sister Kay (Jim) Soliday of Portland OR; sister-in-law Carol Hayward of Fort Collins, CO and daughters: Holly (Ron) Westemeier of Alliance NE; Susan Hayward of Littleton, CO; Carol Chatfield of Kansas City, MO; step-daughters: Lori McDonald of Fort Collins, CO; Stephanie (Paul) Stroup of Chadron NE and step-son Charles (Pam) Wakely of Palmdale, CA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Laura, Jonathan, Natalie, Caitlin, Logan, Reece, Mason, Megan and Willa.&nbsp; Six great-grandchildren: Mitch, Ryan, Trinity, Kinlee, Kavery, and Aviia, and one great-great grandson Dreyden.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents, brother Carl Hayward, brother-in-law Mike Fullan, first wife Lucille and wife Della. Also predeceased by his son Robert N. Hayward, son-in-law Randy Chatfield and granddaughter Sheila Reynders.

The family shares in Merle’s gratitude for everyone’s friendship and role in making his life full and happy.

Clyde Merle Hayward (1926 - 2020)

Robert Johns, 69, passed away Monday, September 28, 2020 at his rural Alliance home with his family by his side.

Robert Dean Johns was born on July 27, 1951 in Scottsbluff, NE to Walter Howard and Sue Grace (Horner) Johns. He graduated from Melbeta High School, where he found his love of football and basketball. He married June Ellen Lewis in Keenesburg, Colorado July 27, 1969. They were married for 21 years. Later in life, he married Lisa Ann Fisher in Alliance Nebraska on February 14, 1993.

Robert was a carpenter, carpet layer, and builder. Always using his hands, he worked for Magnolia Homes Mobile Home Company in the finishing department in Scottsbluff Nebraska and Fort Morgan Colorado. He eventually hired on the railroad and retired as a carman.

He was known by many as having the biggest heart a person can have. If he believed in something, he was committed and invested. He enjoyed a good game of pool, ping pong, chess, cribbage, and the long form table top game of Axis and Allies. He was an avid basketball player, fan, and teacher of the sport. He was a lover of nature and enjoyed hunting, planting trees, and bird watching. Robert also liked to express his love of music by singing and playing guitar. Everything he did, he did at 110%. He even accomplished building his own house by hand, and hand digging a basement to pour the concrete for his indoor basketball court. He was very kind and utilized his favorite catch phrases, such as; “You blow me away,” “ Yo cocoa Mo,” “ Am I right or am I right?” and, “Hello, is this the rich and famous.” His personality always shined and showed charisma, and he would ask everywhere he went, “Can I get a bag of Ben Franklins with that?” He will be well missed by all who loved and cared for him.

He is also survived by his brothers, Leroy (Karen) Johns of Keenesburg, CO and Rodney Johns of Alliance.

He is survived by his children, Tracy Lynn (Johns) Pate of Moyock, NC, Sandi Renay (Johns) Blankenship of Alliance and Tanner Johns of Rapid City, SD, his grandchildren, Kindra Moore, Saige Benton, Tasia Sanderson, Hunter Sanderson, Brigitte Blankenship, Wyatt Blankenship, Kobee Blankenship, Taven Pate, Adrian Pate and Amanda Anderson and his great-granddaughter, Willow Bowman. .

Graveside services will be Thursday, October 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Creighton Valley Cemetery near Melbeta, NE. The Reverend Walter Cline will officiate. Following, there will be a luncheon at Melbeta City Park. All are welcome to come.

Robert Johns (1951 - 2020)

A celebration of the life of 99-year old Edith Iola Geary, a life-long resident of Crawford, will take place in the summer of 2021 on one of her favorite holidays, Independence Day.

Edith Iola Geary was the second of eight children born to Raymond and Erva Crile on February 15, 1921, and passed away quietly at her home on September 20, 2020. She.&nbsp;

Edith grew up six miles south of Crawford in a log cabin.

Married twice, she raised seven children on her own and was dedicated to supporting her family, so she worked many jobs. She was a longtime and loyal employee to community member Lloyd Pipher, working at the Frontier Bar and then at his bowling alley.&nbsp;

At these jobs, she may have been known to hustle some pool players. She also stopped an attempted robbery single-handedly, so locals knew not to try anything while she was working.

Edith was active and enjoyed hunting; when she was 55, she took down a bull elk with one shot in Wyoming and proudly displayed the antlers in her home for years.&nbsp;

She also was an avid bowler. Her league team, which included her daughter Vida, even qualified for the state tournament and for National tournaments in Nevada.

Edith was extremely happy volunteering, especially with the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, and the RSVP. For 44 years she placed a wreath at Crawford Cemetery during the Memorial Day services.

&nbsp;Many hours were spent with her dear friends Opal Hanley and Frances Olbricht at the Hot Springs VA.

Raising seven children on her own, sewing became a necessity. After the children were grown, she utilized those sewing skills making many quilts for her loved ones. She was also skilled in needlepoint embroidering many tea towels and pillow cases.

Edith worked hard in her yard and flower beds, taking considerable pride in her work. She was able to transform her yard from rock and debris into one of the most presentable yards in Crawford. Twice her hard work paid off and she received the Yard Award.

Even into her seventies she wouldn’t slow down and happily worked as a greeter at the Chadron Wal-Mart for over five years.

She was always ready for an adventure and could pack a bag fast if needed. She often enjoyed her son Garry taking her to visit her grandchildren in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and her daughter Billie taking her to Utah.

She was known for her delicious cinnamon rolls, but if you ever stayed overnight with her she would make sure that you were always fed an early hearty breakfast of bacon, eggs, and toast.

In her final years, you could always count on her having her nails done and then playing cards at the Senior Center or Ponderosa Villa, but most importantly, she loved showing off her Christmas tree which stayed decorated year-round.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Erva, siblings, John, Ethel, Dora, Thelma, and George, her husbands Warren Riggs and PFC William Geary, children Vida (Riggs) Anderson, Garry Riggs, and Frank Riggs, grandchildren Terry O’Donnell, Shawn Riggs, and Cindy Kubo and great grandchildren Shandi Cuttlers, and Angelica Cuttlers.

Left to celebrate her life are her sisters Alice (Crile) Richardson and Eva (Crile) Dickman, children Billie Hamar, Betty Calder, Danniece Stull, and Mary Sample, 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 22 great-great grandchildren.

Edith was a small lady who left a big imprint on the world. She was a woman who loved her children and grandchildren more than anything.&nbsp;

 </figure>A celebration of the life of 99-year old Edith Iola Geary, a life-long resident of Crawford, will take place in the summer of 2021 on one of her favorite holidays, Independence Day.Online condolences may be made at chamberlainchapel.com.Edith Iola Geary was the second of eight children born to Raymond and Erva Crile on February 15, 1921, and passed away quietly at her home on September 20, 2020. She.&nbsp;Edith grew up six miles south of Crawford in a log cabin.Married twice, she raised seven children on her own and was dedicated to supporting her family, so she worked many jobs. She was a longtime and loyal employee to community member Lloyd Pipher, working at the Frontier Bar and then at his bowling alley.&nbsp;At these jobs, she may have been known to hustle some pool players. She also stopped an attempted robbery single-handedly, so locals knew not to try anything while she was working.Edith was active and enjoyed hunting; when she was 55, she took down a bull elk with one shot in Wyoming and proudly displayed the antlers in her home for years.&nbsp;She also was an avid bowler. Her league team, which included her daughter Vida, even qualified for the state tournament and for National tournaments in Nevada.Edith was extremely happy volunteering, especially with the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, and the RSVP. For 44 years she placed a wreath at Crawford Cemetery during the Memorial Day services.&nbsp;Many hours were spent with her dear friends Opal Hanley and Frances Olbricht at the Hot Springs VA.Raising seven children on her own, sewing became a necessity. After the children were grown, she utilized those sewing skills making many quilts for her loved ones. She was also skilled in needlepoint embroidering many tea towels and pillow cases.Edith worked hard in her yard and flower beds, taking considerable pride in her work. She was able to transform her yard from rock and debris into one of the most presentable yards in Crawford. Twice her hard work paid off and she received the Yard Award.Even into her seventies she wouldn’t slow down and happily worked as a greeter at the Chadron Wal-Mart for over five years.She was always ready for an adventure and could pack a bag fast if needed. Leona “Onie” Wilkins, age 89, of O’Neill, NE formerly of Hemingford, NE, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill.&nbsp; Onie was born February 4, 1931 in Alliance, Nebraska to Mike and Mary Walters. She attended elementary school at District #40 east of Hemingford near her family’s farm and graduated valedictorian from St. Agnes Academy in Alliance. Following graduation, Onie attended Chadron State College receiving teacher certification. She taught for 9 years in various rural schools in Box Butte County and served on the State Teachers Association Board.

In 1959, she married Wayne Wilkins at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church and they had three daughters, Annette, Mary Pat, and Molly. Onie worked many years for the Superintendent at Hemingford High School. She later worked as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Liberal Arts at Chadron State College retiring in 2004.

Onie was a lifelong member of Hemingford St. Bridget’s parish and Altar Society. She served on the Parish Council and taught catechism classes. Her faith was a source of strength and joy. She was an example of Christ’s love and mercy. As leader of the Kute Kookies 4-H Club and member of the Box Butte County 4-H Council, Onie was active in many community service projects. She served as Executive Administrator of the Mari Sandoz Society while employed at CSC. Onie spent her final years in O’Neill, Nebraska, close to her family and grandchildren. Onie enjoyed cooking for her family, travel, gardening, and spending time outdoors in her yard. She will be fondly remembered as a loyal friend and a loving, supportive and caring mother and grandmother.

Onie is survived by her three daughters; Annette (Larry) Mitchell and their son, Michael Mitchell, all of Lincoln, NE, Mary Wilkins and Galen Houseman and their children, Ellen Houseman and Adam Houseman, all of Kalamazoo, MI, Molly (William) Jennings of O’Neill, NE, and their children, Nathaniel Jennings of Albion, MI and Chistopher Jennings of O’Neill; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mike and Mary Walters, her siblings Floyd Walters, Edward (Marian Lee) Walters, Alma (Patrick) Walsh, Mary Pat Walters, and John (Carol) Walters.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at a later time at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Hemingford with interment following at the Hemingford Cemetery. Memorials suggested to the Chadron State College Foundation. Biglin’s Mortuary of O’Neill is in charge of arrangements.

Evan Slack, hall of fame farm broadcaster, has died at the age of 86. He passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020.&nbsp;

His radio career spanned 68 years including most recently as owner of the Evan Slack Network based in Denver, Colo. During that time, he broadcasted from 45 states, 4 Canadian Provinces and Australia.&nbsp;

Evan’s story begins on a livestock farm in southwest Missouri where his dreams were in the clouds and on the air. As a young boy, he had two goals: to become a radio broadcaster, and to fly his own plane. His radio career began in June 1952 at KWTO in Springfield, and he has “slept, ate and breathed” radio ever since. Early on, he even worked at a radio station in Hollywood - Florida, that is - while he was stationed there during a two-year stint in the Marines.

Evan returned to Missouri to receive a degree in Agriculture with a minor in Journalism from the University of Missouri. After that, he moved westward, into the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, establishing Farm and Ranch departments at two different radio stations.

Once he got his pilot’s license in 1967, he literally took off and he has been flying the friendly skies of this country ever since bringing his own brand of personal charm to the airwaves via the airways. The freedom of flight helped Evan become an agricultural radio network pioneer in the west, working to establish network programming specifically targeted for the farmers and ranchers of that region in the early 1970s.

He was been a strong leader in the farm broadcast industry, serving as president of the National Association of Farm Broadcasters, and has won recognition from several agricultural organizations for his service.

Farm Broadcaster Evan Slack passes away 

Terry Lee Correll, 62, of Tryon, Ne. took his last breath in his home lovingly surrounded by his immediate family, at 10:30pm on Saturday, September 19, 2020, but was given September 20, 2020 as an official date of death. His body was worn out from a courageous battle with cancer.

Terry was born December 31, 1957 in Alliance, NE to Lenard “Rusty” Correll and Rita (Dobbins) Correll. He attended Elementary School in Chappell, Ne through 4th&nbsp;grade. The family then moved to Tryon, NE where he attended school at McPherson County through his sophomore year. He finished his junior and senior year at Stapleton Public School, where he graduated with the class of 1976.

He furthered his education by attending Chadron State College where he rodeoed collegiately and professionally, earning his pro-card early on, and winning 2 College Regional Championships. He completed college with a degree in Accounting.

They held nightly rodeos in North Platte, Ne and supplied stock for high school and amateur rodeos in the area. Fun fact: right before Terry “hung up his chaps” as a pro rodeo competitor, he rode all 3 of the barebacks he drew and won the Stapleton, Arthur and Hyannis rodeos - ending on a winning streak. It was around this time that Terry also “hung his shingle” at Ringgold, Ne as a professional horse trainer where he trained horses in all disciplines and held training clinics, but later on the ranch he would specialize in training cutting horses. He served as an officer for the Western Nebraska Cutting Horse Association and the Cutting Horse Association of Nebraska.In 1997 Terry met Julie on a blind date, set up through a mutual friend, Dave Kapperman. They quickly discovered they shared the “love of a good horse” and she moved from Lincoln, Ne to the Sandhills, with a teaching job, so they could be together more easily. Terry purchased a ranch at that time where they resided, marrying Julie on June 5, 1999. In the last 20 some years, Terry fulfilled his dreams of training &amp; showing the best horses and raising a family. Anyone who visited with Terry would soon learn that some of his fondest memories included traveling the world with his family building their Xyngular business, hunting the best buck, ranching &amp; rodeo life, supporting his daughter’s activities, including teaching them how to ride and play basketball and hauling them many miles up &amp; down the road to cutting shows. He was always so proud of their accomplishments.Terry’s faith in God’s “perfect plan” was important to him as he witnessed to everyone he met through his actions and his words. He and Julie were in fact “re-baptized” in the Dismal River early in their marriage. He was always very warm and genuine; ‘never met a stranger’ and never had an enemy. He was generous with his abilities &amp; talents, time, resources, compliments and friendship. He was a true cowboy, Godly family man, and his advice and opinions were sought after and highly respected by others.Survivors include his wife Julie, daughters Gracie, Faith and Hope Correll, all of Tryon, Ne. his mother Rita Correll Tryon, siblings: brother Kent (Cindy) Correll, Forth Worth, TX, sisters: Shelly (Mark) Lovitt, Tryon and Deanne (Brad) Jenkins, Omaha, Ne. brother in laws: Rod (Linda) Goes Wymore, NE; Stan Goes, Lincoln, Ne; Bruce Goes, Wymore, Ne; Mark (Patricia) Goes, Odell, NE and Scott (Stacy) Goes, Cortland, NE along with numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins whom he loved very much.He was preceded in death by his father Rusty, and Grandparents Ray and Margaret Dobbins, Frank and Eva Correll, and Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Bernard and Velda Goes.Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 2:00pm at McPherson County High School Tryon, NE with Rev. Jim Streicker, Bethel E-Free Church and Pastor Jon Parsons, Ringgold Free Methodist church officiating. Visitation and book signing will be from noon to 8:00pm with card reading and memory sharing from 6:00 -8:00pm on Friday, September 25 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home North Platte, Ne. A Memorial has been established to support the children’s’ educational funding or a donation may be made for family’s choice to be determined at a later date.The service will also be livestreamed via Adams and Swanson Funeral Home Facebook page for those unable to attend in person.
